Sometimes to get myself to actually prepare a meal I pretend I'm making a cooking tiktok - which I would never actually do bc they're all annoying af
In my head I'm just like "Today we're making a lazy girl salad. Frozen chicken straight into the microwave. You can air fry if you want but peak lazy girl is paper plate in microwave so that's what we're doing."
Obviously it's very stupid but it does work
#food mention#food prep#i call it a lazy girl meal but this is the most effort im able to put into meals most days#frozen chicken#frozen peppers + onions mix#bagged spinach#bagged coleslaw mix (just carrots + cabbage)#dressing over the top#boom tasty salad#+ frozen microwaved sweet potatoe gnochi on the side because carbs are fucking good for you

so many meals can be bolstered by just throwing a handful of frozen spinach in there while you cook it. scrambled eggs? add some spinach. ramen? add some spinach. mac and cheese? add some spinach, baby!
#eliot posts#specifically i use a bag of frozen spinach so you can just dump some into the pot#the frozen blocks do NOT work for this purpose#unless you wanna add way too much spinach or go at the block with a gd icepick#and i prefer frozen to fresh bc fresh needs to be Kept Track Of or else it will go yucky in your fridge#frozen spinach is fine with being forgotten about for months#idk how much nutrition the spinach actually adds but it at least makes the meals FEEL less depressing#and prevents the dawning horror of ''dear god i cannot actually remember the last time i ate a vegetable'' from occurring#this is no longer a sad 30 cent brick of ramen in sad packet broth. now there is leaf! sometimes even egg/onion too!#i will still eat it directly out of the pot bc i am too depressed to clean a bowl tho.

you know. while im at it. im really proud of myself. ive come a long way. i have a lot of emotional and nonemotional (ie texture taste etc) sensitivity around food and ive been working really hard to find ways to get my body the nutrients i need..... ive found ways to really enjoy veggies i previously rejected. ive added (petite) peas, broccoli, certain kinds of cooked tomato, arugula, spinach, onion, bell peppers, jalepeno, cooked eggs (in two forms!!!), chickpeas and more into my diet... all things i previously disliked or was too scared to try. im always gonna dislike most forms of artichoke, raw tomato, sweet potato, and others... but i genuinely feel so much better than i did a few years ago. the confidence that i can always add SOMETHING to make a meal healthy without being scared of the flavor or texture or whatever else is really a game changer.
#AND IM STILL WORKING ON IT !!!#like i got the idea for arugula when i was at a profs house for a get together#and he had a spinach and arugula salad and i got a little bit IN FRONT OF OTHER PEOPLE and tried a few bites.... and it was good!!#i told myself i can get a little to try and if i didnt like it.... it was fine. they were all people i trusted#and now im def gonna add arugula into the grocery list#im still bad at using a bag of greens before it goes bad.... but im working on it#anyway#slug.personal#im personally very proud of myself#it takes a lot of having grace for yourself. which im still learning how to do

The fact that Brennan and Murph call a serving of vegetables "medicine" proves that they just wait until they can feel the scurvy setting in before they finally eat A Vegetable.
#dimension 20#adventuring party#FUCKING WILD#Murph eating a bag of spinach as a SIDE to a steak just to make sure he gets SOME greens#god that was Brian for his twenties too

is there anything more frustrating than helplessly watching your lovely fresh greens go bad days before they were supposed to?
#storyrambles#food going bad in the fridge is bad enough. hate it.#but it's worse because fresh stuff is so fucking expensive now. that's food and money going down the drain.#i gave you coolness... and washed you... and kept you in a bag that should have prevented this... how could you betray me in this way...#<-my early morning lament to my bag of spinach

I struggle sooo much with low appetite since quitting the gym bc of my fracture. But today I made up a trick that’s like…working…..???? I made an improvised casserole with a bunch of random odds and ends that needed to get used and I dubbed it my “who hash” because that phrase has been stuck in my head for the last 24h and literally I just think to myself “time to eat my who hash” and then I literally eat my who hash. Who the fuck am I wtf
#my who hash consists of diced potatoes onions and red bell peppers from the freezer#Colby Jack from a random half finished block#a bunch of super old yogurt that’s lowkey starting to taste like bleu cheese#a bunch of eggs that froze and then burst in the back of the fridge#and half a bag of spinach that was going slimy#plus a bunch of seasonings#who hash!

idk why but you reblogging that ask u did about Peppino performing for Brick reminded me, and I just NEEDED to share this silly idea but... Peppino gardening... just, like, garlic and tomato plants n stuff, it's cheaper than buying all the time, even if he's not exactly growing enough to make that much of a dent in his bills, it's about the PROCESS PEOPLE and just aekssf Peppino in his little garden tending to his little plants and some flowers, it started out as something to help with personal costs but now it's such a soothing activity it's his little zone and he tells no one about it and making a pizza with his own home grown tomatoes just hits different when he's in a real rough mood. just yeah peppino gardening...
WAUGH this is so cute omg…I cant see him growing TOO MUCH bc some veggies are so fucking delicate but garlic seems doable! Same with stuff like basil and thyme and oregano. Its not necessarily low maintenance but you dont need to constantly get expensive resources to maintain them. Maybe he uses SOME of it for his shop but i can definitely see him using most of it for his own cooking bc hes been doing it since he was young, way back when he was still living w his parents (and he just got the habit from them)
I hc him with a small house (that hes forced to use as collateral to keep the shop open) so like, he would definitely have the space to grow some other small veggies like spinach n tomatoes. With his shop failing miserably hes got Plenty of time to at least go out and make sure theyre not dying 😭 But i can see him making it look more lively postgame when hes got the proper funds to keep the shop open. Old man tending to his tiny little garden :) its mindless work really and it keeps his hands busy. When hes more used to Gus and Brick (and any company in general lbr) coming over to visit; Brick helps with gardening too; his hugeass Rat Hands can tear up at the soil way better than Peppino and his little trowel can. And w the shop doing well he can afford to take days off and even open later in the day so he has more time to himself to do other things (like tend to his tiny garden) (or maybe fucking sleep in for once)
#answered#chattin#peppino#HONESTLY it is just WAY cheaper to buy things in bulk when ur a shop owner#so the money hed save for buying a bucket of seasonings is way more worth it than waiting for some little basil leaves to grow#but also#its about the process. i get u anon i get u 💖#he has a bunch of little pots on his kitchen shelf and he just plucks leaves whenever he needs them#but stuff like garlic and spinach needs to be out in the back#and also…gardening kind of sucks ass if u have to plant a whole bunch of things 😭 its way more manageable when u keep less varied#so he has no more than like. 2 plant types out back. god forbid u grow some specific veg in the same soil as something else; itd explode 💥#but this aint about technicalities its about the VISUAL and the PROCESS#and peppino in his tiny garden postgame and looking ACTUALLY happy is so cute#and also brick is there in a sun hat💙#also peppino and noise bonding (kind of) by him making the noise do Manual Labor and watching him crack under bags of fertilizer heehee

Tried my hand at fresh handmade pasta tonight! Very rustic style, and came through with a nice gnocchi-like texture.
Pumpkin goat cheese pasta in a parmesan and sage butter sauce, with king oyster mushrooms, garden tomatoes, and fresh spinach.

I am growing plants at my window. Up are spinach with patatoes that don't want to come out yet 😅. Bottom left are potatoes happy to grow. This won't do much but that make some supplements and save some food waste.
And bottom right my little chestnut tree that survived sickness and heat. I had to cut it short and it revived. Now it is entering autumnal mode.
This summer it had some bugs (punaise des bois je pense) under one leaf.
I am happy that it could protect some life. It didn't damage the leaf at all.
