under-reported evil of genshin character designs is that so many non-pirate non-vampire characters dress like pirates and vampires that you are tricked into believing there are no pirates or vampires and that is precisely when you are hit with a secret pirate or vampire.

the early scenarios really are about hammering the idea that your life comes at a cost, and you have to want to live enough to bear that cost. its an active choice to make. obviously the initial scenario is what establishes this, but it gets repeated over and over. with the paradise arc, with lee jihye being confronted about her first scenario with na bori in the cinema dungeon. even with something as simple as hunting the ground rats where kim dokja thinks of it as a sort of proof of will, fighting to consume enough to keep going, fighting to live. and in a hundred other smaller ways as they all make it through the scenarios.
kim dokja percieves himself as a passive actor in his life, a reader who lives almost coincidentally. one glance at the life he describes and it seems one empty of ambition or effort - simply a man barely coasting by. but orv and especially this section emphasizes how impossible that is. even before the apocalypse, a life without a cost, without some sort of effort to keep going, can't exist. kim dokja's spent every day of his life fighting this fight. he made the choice to live at the beginning of it all when his father died, his own first scenario. and just as all the other incarnations must he chose to keep living, to keep himself fed and find shelter and stay alive another day even if it was through a different sort of struggle. to consume yoo joonghyuk's story and keep going. interestingggggg

the next silver age x-men retelling should be about the x-men fighting frankenstein's monster is really what i'm saying.
comics being what they are, its very interesting to me to see what origin stories become widely incorporated into popular fanon and which don't. especially in the case of the first x-men, whose origins are consistently revisited with some scenes perennially referenced and others written over and others ignored so thoroughly they cease to make sense, there's not really any point to arguing which of them is true, or more canonical than the other, but some still become more popular anyway.

jean's life before coming to the institute seems very isolated, and various alt universes/origin stories have really run with this (and others have of course done the opposite, comics being what they are) and expanded on the ways in which she found social interaction difficult after annie's death. and she goes from that to kind of being perceived as the perfect girl, a doll, etc, becoming this really idealized social/feminine presence. i don't have a finished thought ig i just think this is interesting to read jean's social roles on the x-men through the lens of someone who has a lot of psychic social experience but did not have much actual peer-to-peer interaction before the x-men.

i like jeanscottwarren because you'd think it would mean that the o5 get split into the subgroups of hankandbobby and jeanandscottandwarren, but what actually happens is the o5 gets split into the subgroups of hankandbobby and jeanandwarren, and scott. or hankandbobby and jeanandscott and warren. or hankandbobby and warrenandscott and jean. does this make any sense.

my current favorite way to think about jeanwarren is silver age jeanwarren finding in each other another person who can act out perfect teenage casual dating and having fun with that. this of course gets revisited and complicated in x-factor (as all teenage o5 things do) and also obviously ties into teenage bobby drake watching warren act out ideal teenage heterosexuality for kicks and hating it.
#it would be fun#silver age warren is like. caught between thinking he has a perfect read on the jean and scott situation#and not wanting that read on the jean and scott situation and i think this also ties into that well#w.me

Contribute to Gabriel here!
Gabriel is a really cool guy. He's a great artist, loves cats, and is honestly an extremely funny little dude. He's working on his GED and doing part-time work right now. Any boosts or contributions would be much appreciated to support him as he builds his life!

My name is Hala, from Deir al-Balah, Gaza. I live with my four children, Abdul, Jaber, Mohammed, and Lian, and my mother-in-law, in a never-ending nightmare. Our home was bombed, and everything we had turned to ashes. Now, we live in a burnt house, with no safety or hope..
My husband, Adham, is stuck in Egypt, and I face this torment alone. My children suffer from hunger and illness, and we have nothing to protect them. Life here is unbearably difficult; every day is a struggle for survival.
I urgently need your help to raise $35,000 so we can escape, as each person requires $5,000. This money isn’t just numbers; it’s our hope for a new life away from pain and suffering. We are human beings who deserve to live, so please don’t let us drown in this nightmare.
Help us, as we are in desperate need of your support.
