OUR BLUES // KDRAMA DİZİ YORUMU
UYARI : Yazılar genel olarak spoiler içerebilir. İçermeyedebilir.
İmdb puanı: 8,6 Benim puanım: 9
Drama: Our Blues (literal title)
Hangul:
Director: Kim Kyu-Tae
Writer: No Hee-Kyung
Date: 2022
Language: Korean
Country: South Korea
Cast: Lee Byung-Hun, Shin Min-A, Han Ji-Min, Kim Woo-Bin, Ko Du-Shim, Cho Hye-Jung, Baek Seung-Do, Lee Jung-Eun, Park Ji-Hwan, Choi Young-Joon, Roh Yoon-Seo, Bae Hyun-Sung
Her biri kendi hikayelerini bizlere anlatarak sahneden ayrılıyorlardı.
Ji-Min’i ise oyunculuk anlamında baya başarılı buluyorum.

Hey hey! I don't know if can articulate it as well as you. But, My Dearest has endeared me to him quite a bit(a lot). I am in the rabbit hole at this point, currently on episode 12 of Hot Stove League, and it is so weird to see him so demure(?) compared to his other roles where he does use his full body quite a lot to express himself. Here, he gets shoved around and startled, and it's a far cry from the sword wielding warrior he is in My Dearest. But he does it so well, I kinda want to cradle his face in my hands and until he sees himself the way I see him, which is 😍😍( when he held a baby for the first time). I also stopped One Dollar Lawyer for similar reasons and The Veil. However, I did spend some time on Falsify(a hidden gem, truly). Him and Oh Junge Se are brothers, journalists, and it delves into the world of journalism and the responsibility of media in shaping public opinion etc, I haven't finished but he's so good at, I don't what to call him, to put it simply, a man who is angry at what has been 'done' to his brother and by extension him. By the way, any hopes or expectations for the 2nd part of My Dearest, for the characters and the story? I kinda don't want to create any illusions of what is to come, and just enjoy the story for it is but ahh, the situation looks so dire. Thanks for welcoming me into your inbox.
Hi again Anon! I completely get you. I loved how different he was in Hot Stove League - it’s such a restrained performance. The character of Baek Seung-soo is interesting to me because he feels like a cold and distant person when you see him, and you realise how principled and generous he is only through his actions. It’s a challenge for any actor, and I love that he did it well and was such a good foil for both Park Eun-bin and Oh Jung-se. I don’t wish to cradle his face (I’m afraid I’d break it) but I did want to put him in my pocket and carry him everywhere.
Sadly Falsify doesn’t seem to be on any of my services, so I will have to wait until the coming Namgoong Minaissance encourages someone to carry it. I didn’t check it out so I didn’t know he plays Oh Jung-se’s brother, which is fascinating to me since I loved their arc in Hot Stove League. Thank you for telling me more about this show!
As for Namgoong Min in My Dearest: he is so expressive and I absolutely love that about watching him.
I could go on and on (and I will!) but I’ll talk about one scene in particular: the one where he carries Ahn Eun-jin across the riverbed which rewired my brain. She’s being carried by him, which must be a novel sensation, since she’s alive to his body in a way the other girls were not. She sees the perspiration on his face, and you can see how it makes her feel, how she’s overwhelmed by — not handsomeness, really, but pure attraction and want. She’s almost entranced, and she touches his face, his sweat, which is, yes, gross, but deeply intimate, like blood. And he notices; how can he not when she touches his temple? He could probably feel her gaze from a mile away, let alone a physical touch. And so he turns and looks at her, and that face says so much, reflecting so much possession, want and banked desire.
Both actors are so subtle and wonderful, and yet convey the undeniable attraction between the characters. For two people who talk nonstop at each other and deny their feelings throughout it all, their true feelings reveal themselves with surprising ease in other ways. I love that so much.)
As for season 2: I didn’t like how their arc ended at the last episode of part 1, but I don’t think it was inconsistent with Jang Hyeon’s character or bad writing necessarily. I’m ultimately glad Gil-Chae stayed with her family. I hope Gil-chae and Ryang Eum become besties. I hope Gil-chae continues to be the successful businesswoman that she is. I hope her friends remain by her side. I think Jang Hyeon has a lot of work and growing up to do. I get that the storyline needs them back together, so for what it’s worth I hope he grovels and begs and is a repentant, changed man when he returns to her.
(I understand that this isn’t a prevalent opinion about them as a couple, and I’m fine with that! I also get that all of this is unlikely to happen, so I’m not resting my hopes on it :’().
Thank you Anon for letting me go on and on about this. Happy watching Namgoong Min and I hope Oct 13th gets here soon! ❤️

Queen of Tears: A Compelling Dive into Love and Crisis
"Queen of Tears" (Korean: 눈물의 여왕) is a 2024 South Korean television series that captivates audiences with its intricate portrayal of a married couple navigating a tumultuous crisis. Written by the acclaimed Park Ji-eun and co-directed by Jang Young-woo and Kim Hee-won, the series stars the powerhouse duo Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won. Airing on tvN from March 9 to April 28, 2024, and available for streaming on TVING and Netflix in selected regions, this drama has not only captured hearts but also shattered viewership records.

The narrative centers on Hong Hae-in, a third-generation chaebol heiress, and Baek Hyun-woo, a lawyer from a rural background. The series delves into their complex relationship, highlighting the challenges and rekindling of their love after three years of marriage. This emotional rollercoaster is set against the backdrop of the Queens Group's corporate world and the humble rural village of Yongdu-ri.
Cast: The cast of "Queen of Tears" brings the story to life with their compelling performances:
Kim Soo-hyun as Baek Hyun-woo, a lawyer and Hae-in's devoted husband.
Kim Ji-won as Hong Hae-in, the ambitious CEO of Queens Department Store.
Park Sung-hoon as Yoon Eun-sung, a savvy investor and Hae-in's university acquaintance.
Kwak Dong-yeon as Hong Soo-cheol, Hae-in's younger brother and CEO of Queens Mart.
Lee Joo-bin as Cheon Da-hye, Soo-cheol's wife.
Supporting roles feature a robust ensemble, including Kim Kap-soo, Lee Mi-sook, and Jung Jin-young, enhancing the series' depth with their stellar portrayals of Hae-in's and Hyun-woo's families.
Park Ji-eun, after the monumental success of "Crash Landing on You," returns with a gripping storyline in "Queen of Tears." The series, co-produced by Studio Dragon, Culture Depot, and Showrunners, underwent meticulous preparation. The first script reading was conducted in March 2023, and filming spanned several months, capturing the scenic beauty of South Korea and Germany. With a hefty budget of ₩56 billion (US$48.95 million), the production quality is top-notch, boasting exquisite cinematography and elaborate sets.

The original soundtrack, curated by music director Nam Hye-seung, is a melodic journey that complements the series' emotional tone. Featuring artists like BSS, 10cm, Heize, and Crush, the OST has struck a chord with fans. "Queen of Tears" has been a ratings juggernaut, achieving a nationwide rating of 24.850% for its finale, making it the highest-rated series in tvN's history and the third highest-rated series in Korean cable television. Critics and audiences alike have lauded the series for its engaging storyline and stellar performances. Forbes highlighted its unique approach of starting with "happily ever after" and then exploring the complexities of maintaining it. NME's Tanu I. Raj praised it as a "whirlwind office romance" with a comic undertone, awarding it 3 out of 5 stars.
The series' global appeal is evident from its performance on Netflix's Global Top 10 TV (Non-English) category, where it ranked seventh shortly after release. With 373.2 million hours watched over its broadcast run, "Queen of Tears" has left an indelible mark on viewers worldwide.

Doctor Cha (2023)
I got a fever, and the only prescription is more melodramas!
I usually hate love triangles, but it wasn’t so bad with this show. I think it helped that the entire premise was so unbelievable that I was able to just sit back and embrace the chaos.
What Worked
The show did a great job at letting you know what you were in for right from the first episode—an over the top, unrealistic situation with fun characters. The entire plot was building towards this dramatic train wreck where the protagonist (who was almost too good to be true) hit the final straw, and gave the terrible husband and mother-in-law exactly what they deserved. And that whole part of the story was completely engrossing.
What Didn’t Work
The writers didn’t bungle the ending, I still liked it, but I think they played it a little safe. All of the messed up relationships that were causing the delicious drama wrapped up on mostly good terms. That’s a nice story in a way, but I don’t think it was as cathartic.
Still, it’s a better story than real life, where men like the cheating husband often end up prospering, without really learning their lesson.
The Performances
Uhm Jung-hwa as “Doctor Mom” Cha Jeong-suk. I first saw this actress in “Our Blues” and I really liked her in that. Though the writing in this show isn’t quite as good, her performance in this show was just as good and even better in some respects. Really fun to watch this actress at work.
Kim Byung-chul as “Dirty Cheating Doctor” Seo In-ho. His character was supposed to be both pathetic and hate-able and the actor hit the brief very well. A lot of the charm in this show was watching him get his just desserts and suffer, while still being an unrepentant jerk.
It’s not exactly hate watching when the show clearly wants you to hate him. The fact that I never got tired of watching him, shows just how good his acting was.
Myung Se-bin as “Lady Cheating Doctor” Choi Seung-hee. This actor had a tough job to do. The writers kept shifting her motivation and relationships around and overall she did a good job making it work. I think her best scenes were with Eun-Seo, but she was still okay to watch overall.
Min Woo-hyuk as “The Good Doctor” Roy Kim. I enjoyed his performance. It was fun watching him go in and ruffle everyone’s feathers by being a good guy who doesn’t take anyone’s nonsense. I think his arc mostly peaked early though and he was less interesting towards the end of the series.
Song Ji-ho as “Doctor Son” Seo Jung-min. He had some great comic moments and I enjoyed watching his relationship with the girlfriend. It did take some time for him to really get interesting, though.
Jo Ah-ram as “Doctor Girlfriend” Jeon So-ra. I loved this character. I really enjoyed her relationships with both Jeong-suk and Jung-min.
Baek Joo-hee as “Doctor Bestie” Baek Mi-hee. A good example of how a good actor can make even a side character interesting. I especially liked the episode where she helped Yi-rang after she got in a fight.
Park Joon-geum as “The Worst Mother-in-Law” Kwak Ae-sim. I really disliked this character. Which means she did a good job because that was exactly what I was supposed to feel.
Kim Mi-kyung as “The Best Omma” Oh Deok-rye. She’s played a role like this so many times and yet I never get tired of seeing her because she still keeps it from being boring or repetitive. A national treasure.
Lee Seo-yeon as “The Good Daughter” Seo Yi-rang. She did a good job with the role she was given and had some great moments, but there were times when she disappeared in a scene. Pretty good overall though.
So A-rin as “The Best Daughter” Choi Eun-seo. They played it like she was some kind of emotionally unstable child in the first few episodes, which was unfortunate because the character was actually one of the most interesting and honest characters in the show. And she was mistreated by everyone.
The show was at its best when they let this actor loose, and I was really impressed by her performance.
Everyone Else. The show did have a few good moments for its minor characters, but most of the time they weren’t memorable or doing anything important.
TL; DR:
This is a show made for people who like melodramas. If you’re able to turn off the nitpicking part of your brain and enjoy the ride, it’s pretty dang fun.

I’M NOT A ROBOT // KDRAMA DİZİ YORUMU
UYARI : Yazılar genel olarak spoiler içerebilir. İçermeyedebilir.
İmdb puanı: 8 Benim puanım: 8
Drama: I'm Not a Robot
Hangul:
Director: Jung Dae-Yoon
Writer: Kim Seon-Mi
Episodes: 32
Date: 2018
Language: Korean
Country: South Korea
Cast: Yoo Seung-Ho, Chae Soo-Bin, Uhm Ki-Joon, Kang Ki-Young
Ji-A maddi sıkıntılardan dolayı bunu yapmayı kabul ediyor.
Senaryoda her şey dozunda ayarlanmıştı.

Heya, me again! Thank you for getting into it with me. I finished Hot Stove League, what a fun and learning time. I honestly do not find baseball to be at all interesting but this one made me sit through it, and enjoy learning! I agree about Mr Bark and Mr Kwon here, I think they would have, at some point, loved to pulverize eachother from the face of the earth, but in the end came together for Dreams! And Park EunBin! I adore her so much, too much. AHH, what a delight, how amazing is she!
About JangHyun, I am looking forward to his growth. I think Part 1 was about GilChae's growth and part 2 will be his, I'm looking forward to seeing him unlock all of that trauma from his body and release it. Their parting was so horrible horrible horrible. I'm glad I wasn't online much after watching ep10, just so I could l figure out my own feelings about that ending without the many voices getting into my head.
Anyway, I think he will repent.
I'm so team GilHyun or JangChae that my assessment of both in the last EP is that they are both in the spectrum of the the five stages of grief, him: shock and her, maybe anger or somewhere further along the line. I hope I'm making sense. Because he returned to Joseon with the idea that he and GC will be talking about their future, he said they would when he 'proposed' to her before he left. And GC was probably overwhelmed when she saw him alive after thinking that he was dead for so long.(PS: what a horrific way to realise that you love someone). Maybe after a long time reflecting, he may, may, understand that he was asking far too much(the fact that YeonJun said things that make sense before Janghyun was able to see it says a lot.)
I'm very interested in how GC feels about RyangEum.
Extremely proud of GilChae( very sad that we have to keep emphasising this). I'm looking forward to their conversations in the future. To GilHyun or JangChae.🥂
Dearest Anon, I still don’t know how baseball is played but I’m glad that wasn’t necessary to enjoy the show.
I loved Park Eun-bin so much - she’s so smart and gutsy and hotheaded and full of love for her team. I deeply enjoyed her protecting Baek Seung-soo (and on occasion his one cheap suit) by throwing a shot glass at a player built like a tank. I enjoyed Oh Jung-se’s character very much as well - there’s a wonderful scene where he’s with his cousin who drops his key and waits for Oh Jung-se to pick it up - which of course Oh Jung-se does since this cousin will be his boss someday, and Baek Seung-soo observes this moment from his car. Lovely character work in that single thirty second scene.
Thank you for those amazing observations about Gil-chae and Jang Hyeon - it makes so much sense! I think they are deeply misaligned and I agree with you that they are also in two different stages of grief. I think Gil-chae tries to meet him in the middle, but Jang Hyeon didn’t wish to move at all (perhaps partly because he was in shock, as you pointed out). I hope like you do that he reflects on and regrets how he treated her. If there is one very sore point I have with the show, it is that they made Yeon-jun of all people (!!!) say the right thing to Jang-hyeon.
I think you were completely right to stay mostly offline for the post episode 10 discussions. I read very little and backed out. I think it’s just part of a larger cultural conversation that we tend to give men far more grace and leeway than we offer women. I find it ironic here because the characters literally live in an era where men had a lot of leeway to begin with and women had very little (and the show takes pains to address this too!), so it’s a real choice to place even higher expectations and tighter leeway on the women and doing the opposite for men. But this has been going on longer than the internet has been alive, I guess.
Anon, thank you so much for coming by and making these very cool and wise observations. As you progress in your Namgoong Min deep dive, please always know you can come hang out here, link arms virtually and tell me (and us!) all the Namgoong Min feelings. Here’s a hug if you’ll have one! 🫂

Our Blues
Everyone has a sadness in their lives, but the pain doesn't outlive us when we face the demons, and rely on those that we love and love us back.
I loved how the intro gave us a hint of what story we would be seeing. Each story was connected to an album, reminding us that music triggers our memories because music is the soundtrack of our lives. The vinyl covers reflected the theme of the story of the episode. Each story had its own tone, some stories were harsh, hard to watch, others were just sad, others were full of fear, but the all had one thing in common, they were about love and healing.
I liked the topics because they are usually not addressed with humanity and realism. This series gives a voice to those that suffer depression, gives a voice to those teens who become parents, to husbands who are physically abused by their wives, parents who do anything to make their children's dreams come true, the lives of people with learning disabilities and that of their families, and so on.
These characters were real to me. They were good people that at times hurt others, with words or actions. Their grayish and dimensions made me connect with them, made me feel for them and smile when they found the path to healing.
It is a beautiful series. A must watch!
P.S. And what a cast!

Warrior Baek Dong Soo. 6-7
Story: 6
Acting:10
Chemistry: 10
Comparable to: the Untamed (cdrama); Chuno (kdrama); My Country: the New Age (kdrama)
This is more of a bromance historical drama then anything else. Now if they stuck completely to that idea and not causally throw the love triangle tag into the mix, I definitely would have liked this better. This wasn’t my favorite role for Yoon So Yi, but then again she didn’t have much of a character to build up on either. Regardless I did find that this drama for me was a bit hard to get into. I love both leading men, I just thought the storyline was a bit all over the place and sometimes draggy. I will say though that both Wook and Seung Ho had excellent bromance chemistry together. The ending though… oof why writers. Why?
