#bad days are allowed

Something that bugs me about a lot of writing advice is the assumption that writing is linear and therefore a writer’s skill will improve and improve and improve.

This is not true.

There are days when the words don’t come, when the “great writing tip” that saved a previous work becomes claustrophobic in a current work, when everything seems more difficult than it used to even though nothing on the outside has changed.

Yes, some of this is higher expectations as we improve or try more ambitious works.

And some of it is just being a writer who, like everyone else, has good days and bad days.

It’s okay.

Writing is an art.

And art isn’t linear.

silly little headcanon: Maui doesn't need to sleep all that often because he's a demigod, but because he was born human he still occasionally feels tired and sleeps anyway. Sometimes while he sleeps, he actually finds it more comforting to shapeshift into an animal and sleep that way; he's a big guy who takes up a lot of space, so sometimes it feels nice to just. turn into a little animal and curl up in a little ball to sleep.

Sometimes when Moana loses track of him on a voyage, when she isn't sure she saw him take off and leave, she ends up finding him in the cargo hold, shapeshifted into a little pig, curled up and sleeping besides Pua. She'll never tell him she found him like that, of course. She needs her blackmail and cameras haven't been invented yet, and also it's so stupid cute to see this all powerful demigod just curled up into this tiny little thing snoring away.

He even finds himself doing it on Motunui, even though he'd definitely be offered a place to stay if he wanted one. Sometimes villagers will just happen across a "weird looking lizard" just baking out in the sun, fast asleep. Sometimes they see a massive hawk nesting on the roof of Moana's fale. Maybe sometimes he even shifts in his sleep to some animal that doesn't even make sense for where he touched down to rest. Maybe one day he wakes up to a huge crowd surrounding him on the beach, Moana included, because oops, he transformed into a whale in his sleep, and a bunch of poor confused fishermen thought he was some poor old regular whale that beached itself by mistake.

Something about using his powers at rest. For comfort, rather than for power and aggresion.

I am so serious when I say this. an amazing way to support your trans friends, mutuals and followers that you share fandom space with is to depict trans characters in your fanfiction and art. cis people get to turn to fandom works for comfort when things feel overwhelming and grim, and get to see themselves depicted. for trans people, this is rare. we don't get to experience the same comfort in fandom that cis people do, in a world that tries to silence us.

depicting trans characters in your fanfiction and fan art tells the trans people around you "I love you. I hear you. I care about you. your stories and your humanity are valuable and are worth depicting in the things that I care about."

Hey, remember last June when Joseph was scheduled for the Philly FanExpo (and I was also going the full weekend). And literally the day before they announced Joe was having Visa issues and wasn't sure if he could make it into the States?

And then on Saturday it was finally sorted out and Joe decided to honor ALL 3 days worth of photos and autographs into ONE single day?

I remember.

So, if he could make it to the con, he would. Dude is a full blown Hollywood actor now...not just a guy that starred in Stranger Things. This is why I have travel insurance for the Orlando FanExpo, because more than likely he will have more important work commitments.

It's fine to be disappointed, I understand fully...but blaming either him or his team is just stupid.

i'm sorry hbo allowed this writing team to plan out a ten episode season until a MONTH before shooting when they cut it down to eight????? and then kept production going when the writer's strike started like two weeks after and kept up for the entirety of the filming schedule??????? i said that filming during the writer's strike was the death knell of this season but oh my god i did not expect to be this fucking right
