the thing is, with margo it's obvious why she hates the chantry and why she'd have helped anders place the explosives inside the chantry in kirkwall. she was made tranquil as a child illegally and while her father managed to reverse it, she's convinced that contributed directly to his early death. she carries an immense amount of anger and trauma. she wants the chantry to burn. she's unbridled chaos and destruction and anger.

but sahar? whew. sahar is so much the opposite. she grew up in a place of actual quality of life for mages, where magic is as normalized as swords, in a small society very much focused on equality even if it's also incredibly isolationist and unwilling to send aid or support to those in the south ( though they'll take in anyone who can make the journey north ). the thing with sahar is that you look at her and think, she's intelligent and calm and quiet. she's very empathetic and kind. but she would have also helped anders place the explosives. to her, the southern chantries ( yes, including tevinter ) are barbaric and immoral. the longer she spends in the south, the more she sees how mages are not treated as people, the more she's convinced it would be better to wipe the entire slate clean and start over.

margo is scary because she's fragile like a bomb, and she has powerful magic that she will use to destroy the things that hurt her and people like her.

sahar is imo more terrifying because you think she's nice and empathetic and calm ( and she is ! ) but then you realize she's a very specific brand of ruthless. her people have survived and thrived as independent neighbors of the qunari for a reason.

Yes, after three years I'm finally back to writing this story and have been done so several weeks already, actually :D But since my tumblr got erroneously terminated for over a week or more, I only now can post about it, sigh. Anyway, yay for another update?

STORY SUMMARY: Trust is a delicate flower that needs to get nurtured and time to grow. Even more so love. A tale of two disparate Wardens forced together, of finding a way to overcome the distrust, and their own painful past in the time of the Blight. Very in-depth, character-focused exploration of the Dalish origin/warden, of all DA:O companions, and their relationship dynamics during the Fifth Blight. Follows and expands on canon events; AU in some ways. Multiple POV's and pairings. Slow burn af.

CHAPTER SUMMARY/ All The Way/ 4U, Part III: While Lenya is deep in her cups, having a good time for once, Alistair is deep in his feelings, struggling to find his footing after his confession and how to handle this (perceived) one-sided love going forward. But maybe things aren't as black and white as thought? Note: This is part three of a three part act. Catch up on the previous three chapters I have posted after its long loooong hiatus here, here and here, respectively, before reading this one.

CHAPTER EXCERPT:

[...] If nothing else, Alistair could be at her side, support and protect her, whenever possible. Take the fall for her, if needed. This was what love was about, wasn’t it? Selfless and selfish, all in one. It could be a source of strength instead of weakness as Morrigan had disparagingly called it. And in the way Lenya could easily shatter him with a few words but put him back together and make whole as quickly showed it was strength and weakness, both. Not black or white but the in-betweens of it, more like. Complicated too, especially as a Warden in the time of a Blight to reconcile it with the duty he was bound to. But nothing of it had been planned, these feelings for her just happened . And now his life would be so much poorer without her in it. He didn't want that, not anymore. 

Her hand bunched in the sturdy fabric of his gambeson, asking him wordlessly to stay. Alistair did, how could he not? “I’m not leaving, don’t worry.” Lenya relaxed, closed her eyes with a long, stuttering exhale.

I love you.  

There was a clarity to that thought now, to these three words. No longer pushed away but embraced as immovable fact as it was by now. One day Alistair would have to let go of it, set it free, and her . He couldn't remain the hopeless fool forever. But for now it was a sense of purpose in a directionless world gone mad, a reason to fight beyond that lofty, nebulous goal of his duty of slaying an archdemon, to end this Blight. 

Her breath had slowed to an even rhythm, but she was still holding onto him. Alistair took her hand, hesitated as she stirred but she only settled down even closer to him, seeking him out as if by instinct. He very likely was just fooling himself here, yet his stomach was aflutter at the slightest possibility of it being real, and the cold no longer an issue for him. 

Cusping her hand into his in a gentle grasp, he marveled at the difference in size for a moment. So small in comparison, yet so powerful. Alistair bent down his head to kiss its backside, just a whisper of lips, as thankful for the comfort of her presence as she was for his. 

He waited until she was calm and asleep before leaving the tent again. [...]

And then with Makoto, she's been "staying" with Kobayakawa as a pupil and StuCo Prez, and once he's confessed, she reaches out to her sister and returns home to live with Hanged Man Sae. She's sorta non-binary genderfluid? She doesn't have a term coined yet. But pronouns vary each day

He runs a homey beef bowl shop and Haru helps out, and Morgana sits at the counter slurping his noodles and Goro studies away in the back booth. Little family of three brothers

also like the 2 companion only thing possibly? thats bullshit and i stand by this point. you always make a big cast of companions irrelevant (see: mass effect 2). people always end up defaulting to love interest + one other. at least with 3 companions, 2 others.

bioware has ALWAYS been really good at trailers and average at their gameplay reveals so my expectations are below the crust of the earth and the hurdle was tripped over. barely. sheer force of will pushed that hurdle over but im still like hrm? snork mimimimi

theyre releasing it this year though??????????????? i will say on the one hand i prefer that games are released the same year that companies start putting out the bigger trailers and stuff (like advertising it a wee bit earlier but yknow. actual content a few months out) just bc its like. not dangerous. but at the same time i really havent played a good AAA game released a few months after the first trailers. lol. borderlands 3 sucked ass.

also it still kinda sucks bioware has the market on this specific brand of game and ive played all the others and PREFERRED a lot more of the others, but those are smaller companies. and yte. they still have THEE market on it. make it make sense.

lmao uh. probably either the clouds will form a crown or in the violence of our dreams, both of which just provide nuance around the canon endings of robert baratheon and judas, respectively

hmmm. this is a self drag, but i feel like i rarely do out and out straightforwardly happy endings? i feel like the answer is either the mercy wheel, which fixes dany's atrocious season eight character arc, or tongue's talkin' riddles (sticky sweet), which gives chrissy and eddie a mostly happy future together instead of horrible deaths in deeply cursed hawkins

Back on my bullshit of comparing dragon age and persona. Today’s episode:

Da origins and persona 5: me and this group I gathered vs world ending threat

Da inquisition and persona 3: me and my coworkers vs world ending threat

Da2 and persona 4: me and my friends (and unfortunately; my family) vs the personal tragedies and horrors of our town/city, which could’ve/do spiral into a world threat

This is probably why da2 is my fav lol, a large part of it is that it has my fav cast but also; getting familiar with everyone and everything in one major location for so long (in game and playthrough time), the specific/‘same’ protagonist who you mold into your version of them, hanging out with your friends in the same couple of locations constantly and then bumping into them hanging out with each other, you can do/get specific little tasks/gifts for each character (Heavy on the gifts I love the da2 gift system), a lot of the core conflicts, quests and plot can be very personal to the characters, etc (these might be why they’re my fav cast, bit of a chicken and egg thing here I’ll admit).

da2 is the most persona like, specifically like persona 4 (also my fav). What a shame it’s supposed to be the outlier/ was going to be a spinoff game cuz I’d love another dragon age with that vibe (with proper development time/budget this time lmao)

Marscha Squabblestone, halfling barbarian. Has a mace bigger than her head, a Russian accent, and a passion for getting into fistfights with bears. She's extremely honest, especially when she shouldn't be, and has an overall cheery demeanor. She drew the little bear tattoo on her arm by herself. It was supposed to look scary, but... She isn't exactly an artist.

Figgriffin "Fig" Boldebort, a half-orc warlock with an Archfey patron. Just started working on his backstory, but he's very much a crystal bitch, a free spirit and is honestly a pretty chill dude. Does he know a ton about his patron??? No. He's just going with the flow. Vibing, if you will. He grew up with his human mother (a very eccentric Professor Trelawney type, an icon truly) in a cozy little commune / village and had a good childhood (I DIDN'T TRAUMATIZE HIM I DESERVE AN AWARD)

"Buggs" Templeton, tiefling artificer. He DOES have childhood trauma, and a shit ton of it. His mom was shitty so he ran away and was taken in by this nice clockmaker guy (kinda like Geppetto from Pinocchio) who ended up giving him his nickname. (Yes Buggs is his nickname. No you don't get a real name reveal 😈). He has a tiny little mechanical dragon companion named Pal, which he built after learning he had a passion for engineering by helping out in the clockmaker's shop. He is also autistic because I say so. And he's aroace.

Salxire (aka "Sal"), tiefling rogue, sort of a crime boss or something. Somehow the Newsies soundtrack inspired him??? Idk boogers, Boog's mind works in mysterious ways. It's taken me AGES to figure out a design for him so this sketch is MONUMENTAL (although I do want to draw a better version for his actual proper reference in the future). Anyway he has a burn scar on his face from that one time his childhood house caught on fire and yeah he's a goober.

If you Boogers or moots want more DnD infodumping I have a TON more characters (these aren't even the ones I've been playing in my campaign lmao) and a lot more to talk about for these sillies so yeah

Time Travel, & Other Ways To Die (Mandalorian/SW:Bounty Hunter video game, Din & Jango centric, whilst trying to get to Grogu on his magical big rock, Din & Grogu end up chucked through time onto an outlaw space station. Jango Fett's no good very bad day begins. Coincidentally, it coincides with Din Djarin's SUPER no good very bad day. They most assuredly do not bond over this.)

I am, or was. (Dragon Age: Inquisition, a spirit takes an interest in Solas after he helps it in the Fallow Mire and begins following him around like a lost puppy. Which would be cute, if it weren't possessing more and more alarming vessels to do so. The Andrastians are starting to get a bit twitchy.)

Rookie, Shiny, Soldier, Spy (Mandalorian/Clone Wars, Din Djarin accidental time travel into the Clone Wars AU. Caught without his 'gam on a battle field and forced once again to wear trooper armor, he is Not Impressed--and why do all these guys look like Boba?)

This Prodigal Son (Hades/Dragon Age: Inq, Zagreus goes through the wrong Chaos portal. Magister Alexius finds a powerful spirit in the Fade and, as is his way, decides fuck it, we ball. Also his way, it doesn't go very well for him.)

i assumed you've already read her first post and their first meeting.

to provide more info, i based her character off of lucille mulhall. to put it simply, she's the first cowgirl originated from missouri. in this case, i made margaret's mother to be lucille. margaret made it her life goal to look for her mother, it is an irl canon event that lucille lives in st. louis so i made that margaret's destination.

margaret lives off as a ship hopper (is that a word) ever since she was of legal age. she's a mercenary who takes on jobs under a certain handler, it is an informal employment. i would cook some bullshit and say this employment is aided by someone who raised her. her father is... well... i haven't cooked up something for that yet 😩

she is scared of dogs LMAO that's why i made an art for it. i just find ppl scared of dogs really cute. most dogs are scared of new ppl too so they're just scared of each other it's the CUTEST thing 🥺.

in terms of personality, margaret is somewhat similar to robin hood. does crime for good? helps people but also breaks the law? a kindhearted criminal? she steals, knows her way around danger, very daring, may or may not have k1lled someone 🫣, slept around some places for certain conditions, and have SEEN some shit. her ideals are way too similar to a pirate tho, fuck the govt and celestial dragons kinda shit. she doesn't have a stigma against pirates, she have worked (mostly betrayed) with them side by side. she just hasn't really sat herself down to assess if she'll join one. she doesn't see the need for it (until she met kidd 🤧), she has a one track mind that is only set on reaching st. louis.

but i'm planning to have her join bc she saved kidd from the marines so there's some you-owe-me kinda stuff between them, she only saved kidd to let him have her on the ship and take her to st. louis. she'll only plan to stay on the ship until the victoria reaches the island and in the span of her stay, stuff will build up between margaret and kidd 🥰. once she leaves tho, kid'll begrudgingly ask her to be become part of the crew, chemistry is just too strong in this one😌. let's just say he'll miss her 😞. i'll do better explaining in the comic i'll make I SWEAR 🥺

some spoiler-y thoughts about tears of the kingdom thus far:

-FUCK GLOOM HANDS. i hate that everyone at nintendo saw our fear of spooky grabby hands and said “fuck yeah lets keep doing this forever”. i’m tired of being groped by very old men goddamnit! and then some of them turn into Phantom Ganon???? holy shit, that is a difficult fight. 80% of my deaths in the game so far have been at the hands(no pun intended) of these fuckers.

-ZELDA TURNED HERSELF INTO A FUCKING DRAGON AND I SOBBED LIKE A BABY. bruh i was not ready. SHE SACRIFICED HERSELF and her personality! but like, i havent finished all the main quests even though i got all the dragon tears/memory things so like, if Zelda IS a dragon, then who the fuck is showing up all around hyrule looking like her? is Mr. Dorf doing an evil magic to look like her like in that one memory? that can’t possibly be the case for all of the Zelda sightings. i’m so confused but so fucking intrigued.

-seriously though, watching Zelda sacrifice herself in order to save Hyrule and support Link is so upsetting. this girl was 16 the day the Calamity hit, and she hasn’t known a moment’s peace since then. give a bitch a break! but hey, at least she’s doing stuff in this one, whereas in most Zelda games, she’s just.... kidnapped.

-SIDON’S ENGAGEMENT STORY IS BULLSHIT. there is ZERO evidence of any other kingdoms existing for Zora outside of the Domain in Lanayru that King Dorephan rules over, it’s JUST to piss off people who ship Sidon with Link and that’s incredibly homophobic and annoying(especially since i had to fucking rewrite an entire part of my OC’s story due to it). and like, i feel bad, bc Yona seems like a lovely character, but she’s going to be HATED in the fanbase bc of the bad writing.

-speaking of questionable writing, there’s still so much i’m very fucking confused about. TotK obviously takes place several years after BotW, but they don’t specify how many and it creates a lot of confusion. why have some characters obviously aged up but some are still basically the same age? like, Hudson and Rhondson have a child who’s old enough to be sent back to Gerudo town, but Finley never hit her growth spurt(even though she clearly stated last game she was old enough to have supposed to hit it by botw)? what the fuck is that about?

-also, WHERE THE FUCK DID THE DIVINE BEASTS GO????? you can’t re-bury four fucking giant robot constructs in the span of maybe a decade, especially with Ganondorf reviving and creating a massive earthquake that unearths a fuckton of other shit. like, not having the Sheikah Slate i get(which is why the Purah Pad exists), and all the shrines and towers probably went back underground, but that part makes no goddamn sense and i don’t like it.

-i’m kinda sad Teba wasn’t the Sage of Wind and instead it was his son, Tulin. he really only got to shine in Age of Calamity, and most Zelda fans didn’t even play it bc it’s non-canon. the disrespect on my poor mans.

-i do love that so many of the towns are under new leadership now. it really feels like the world is evolving in that aspect. Teba and Paya being in charge of their respective towns is lovely to me.

-i love the idea that Link gave Zelda the house he dumped literally thousands of rupees into in Hateno, but like. where did he live? did they sleep together in the same bed? it’s implied Link no longer has a house bc you can make your “dream home” in Tarrey Town or w/e but like, ????? what’s that all about? Zelda just kicked Link’s ass out and made a secret room in the home HE invested in lmao, typical royal colonizer behavior(joking)

-i love that Grante, Robbie and Jerrin’s son, changed his name to Granteson so he could work for Bolson Construction. that’s genuinely adorable. he was already one of my fav tertiary characters just bc he’s Robbie’s son but this makes me like him even more. i also love that Jerrin is involved with stuff at the Lookout Landing! let Robbie’s wifey take care of stuff. even if it’s just cleaning. give her something to do besides glower at a machine her husband built lol.

-Kohga being still alive is hysterical, and the Yiga clan evolving to live partially underground is a lovely touch. them taking over old abandoned areas in the game is great as well. i also love that they flat-out do the “leave Mighty Bananas on the ground as bait to lure in unsuspecting victims” bit bc that’s EXACTLY how i imagined my OC fought them in BotW. i totally headcanon they stole that idea from her.

-tbh i’m kind of enjoying exploring the depths more than i am the sky islands. maybe it’s the fear of heights, or maybe it’s just that i really like that it wasn’t advertised at all. i thought it was just gonna be land and sky, but no! we’re going underground too babey~

-i love the addition of caves, wells, and other underground spaces. it makes a lot of sense for a game like this to have these things, and it makes me kinda sad they weren’t really a thing in the last one.

-the fusing thing is just okay. they didn’t really fix the issue people had with durability in the last game, so that’s annoying, but it is fun to make new weapons out of things at least.

-overall i really like the game so far. even though it’s a world most people have explored through already, there’s enough change and new content to make it fresh and engaging, and even though there’s another crisis, it’s heartwarming to see how people are finally being able to rebuild after the century-long crisis that was the Calamity. i’ve beaten one boss character so far(the Rito one) and i’m looking very forward to the rest!

Last show you watched: uhhh I think it was Our Flag etc etc which I finished watching a month ago or so with my gf? I'm two years late, I know, but I'm slow with series. It was pretty entertaining though the second half of the season is better than the first half, had some genuinely fun moments too. I don't understand how the fandom got so rabid lmao.

Last movie: that has to be Glass Onion. I just wanted something fun and interesting and that was both. I actually preferred the first instalment when it comes to the third act, and (spoiler) I'm sorry but I don't find damage to the Mona Lisa any funny and/or groundbreaking when fiction uses it ~to make a point. But it was still pretty good and held up to the first movie for the most part.

Currently reading: finishing Another Country by James Baldwin. I was in the London airport and needed a bag to put stuff in, so I went to buy a book, and I'd had intended to get this one somewhere already, so I went for it. Started reading on the plane, the writing style is genuinely quite superb. Not that I expected less, after Giovanni's Room.

Current obsession: I guess I'm kind of back on my bullshit with Dragon Age, though not as strongly as once upon a time when my every waking thought was bloody Dragon Age.

bullet point run down bc i CANNOT be bothered to write this out properly rn:

human commoner from ? idk somewhere in ferelden lol, origins based. is at ostagar, has been through Some Things pre-blight.

she's a soldier and specifically a (mundane) medic who first meets balfour when her entire unit abandons lothering in the face of the darkspawn horde but she runs towards it bc there are still people who need to be saved and if she has to single-handedly fight darkspawn to do so then she will.

becomes a companion for the entirety of the blight, has her own specialised class like the da2 companions (bc i say so) that's essentially a combo of the guardian warrior specialisation from awakening + combat emergency healing + herbalism (and i actually think she and wynne would find a good synergy when it comes to healing the party bc georgie's medicine has always operated in a paramedic/emergency kind of way vs doctors in hospitals). probably a sword and shield user?? idk

uhh the blight is incredibly traumatising? it's awful she sees awful things, it fucks her up, but she is excellent for team morale and looking after everyone (at cost to herself). it's obvious to everyone in the party that she and balfour are into each other from pretty much the word go and it's honestly very them to fall in love in the middle of hell.

i think she might get knighted post-origins? she's a soldier so it'd be the logical reward from a monarch. she hates it it makes her an officer and a noble alksjdf. but then she marries bal, who becomes arl of amaranthine, and becomes a noble anyway and that's just something she has to live with (as does the rest of the nobility, who probably aren't used to an arlessa quite like her lmao).

they are so good for the arling bc they saw so many different ways of life over the blight and how much help is needed to set things back to rights, georgie's a commoner herself, she wants to make life better for city elves after seeing the bullshit in denerim alienage, etc. she also helps out the wardens when balfour has to go be warden-commander for a bit, but mostly she takes arlessa duties and also tries to teach people (both soldiers and probably amaranthine citizens) basic healing so that everyone has access to some kind of medicine. she never wants to fight again.
