Was thinking about Quincey Harker having to live through the horrors of WW1, and read some angsty stuff of Jonathan escaping the castle, and had a little plot bunny of time slipping, war traumatized Quincey stumbling into the wild woods of Transylvania, and finding vampire traumatized Jonathan , and the now the same-aged father and son have to survive together and escape back to civilization

Does Quincey even recognize his wreck of a father, who can barely remember his own name at this point? Is Jonathan traumatized more by his strange rescuer’s hints of eldritchness? (Kid was born from two almost vampires he’s definitely got some). They can try and figure that stuff out once they make it past the wolves…

I love seeing the shock and disappointment from new readers of Dracula when they find out that Dracula basically makes a guest appearance at the beginning + end of the book and almost nowhere else. The rest is literally just a subtle homoerotic polycule between Van Helsing, Dr Seward, Lord Godalming and Quincey Morris.

They got Dracula, but at what cost

It's only now--having read Dracula previously more than once, in two languages and doing Dracula Daily for the second time--that I realise how well the epilogue works for me. It's short, but we get all the details we need. Mina and Jonathan have a son, named after everyone but called Quincey, the gang visited Transylvania and Dracula's castle and there's no trace of the horrors that took place, Arthur and Jack are happily married. Jonathan laments the fact that all their documents are just personal accounts but Van Helsing says it doesn't matter, bc their son will know. I think it's just beautiful.
