Katrina Kaif And Not Shraddha Kapoor Was First Choice For Saaho, Rejected For THIS Reason
Tumblr media
Katrina Kaif And Not Shraddha Kapoor Was First Choice For Saaho, Rejected For THIS Reason - Katrina Kaif shocked Saaho makers with THIS demand which is why they approached Shraddha Kapoor The high-octane Sujeeth directorial, Saaho, is all set to hit the cinema screens end of this month and while Shraddha Kapoor and Prabhas break into a rampant promotional spree, Tinseltown gossip has it that diva Katrina Kaif was the first lead choice of the makers. While many have been speculating Shraddha’s luck to land with the glamour plus stunt power role of Crime Branch Officer Avantika Nair opposite the South sensation, reports have it that Katrina was approached first but the makers were not able to meet her demands. The Bollywood bombshell had reportedly demanded a whopping amount of Rs 5 crores which caught the makers off guard and forced them to look for an alternative. Parallel to this is the news of Shraddha being paid Rs 7 crore for the film. However, as per a report in Deccan Chronicle, the lead actor is being paid Rs 3 crore while the hyped salary is merely the work of the PR machinery to help get her a bigger figure in Bollywood. Saaho is already getting fans excited not just because the Telugu hunk will feature on the big screen after Baahubali 2, but it is also one of the most expensive movies in India. With its release date drawing close, makers of ‘Saaho’ are making sure that movie-buffs remain on the edge of their seats as they wait for the flick to hit the big screens. Earlier, the makers had released a power-packed trailer of the flick which is helmed by Sujeeth and produced by V. Vamsi Krishna Reddy and Pramod Uppalapati. Along with Shraddha and Prabhas, also starring in the film are actors Mahesh Manjrekar, Jackie Shroff, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Murli Sharma, and Chunky Panday.’Saaho’ also marks the ‘Ek Villain’ actor’s debut in the South Indian film industry. The movie has been shot in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi, simultaneously at a number of stunning locations in and out of the country and is slated to hit the theatres on August 30, this year. ★ Salman Khan claims he's confident about Bharat: My stardom will fade away but that hasn't started yet!
Jun 04, 2019  It has been 31 years and counting. Salman Khan remains on top of the Bollywood game and at the peak of his stardom. As the critics and opinion makers try to unravel the mystery of his ever increasing popularity, the actor wears it light and appears baffled himself. Excerpts from his interview:
Tumblr media
How difficult it is for a superstar like you to maintain his stardom?
It will fade away. It's a huge task to keep it going for such a long time. After a point, every superstar’s film does not perform as well and their collection comes down to 8-10 per cent. That will toh happen with me as well but I don’t think it has started yet (smiles).
But you still give the younger brigade of actors a run for their money whenever you appear on the silver screen.
I still don’t know what fans see in me. The kind of films I do are like those I have grown up watching. I used to react to those films the same way my fans react to my films. When my film plays on screens and fans enjoy, I feel I am watching with them and that I am watching what I would want to see myself.
Recently, Akshay Kumar said that he will be able to do action films maybe till he is 56-57 years of age. What about you?
Not too long I guess, another 30-35 years max (Grins).
Bharat will hit the screens in a few days. What is your feeling about the film?
The trailer and songs are good. It has a huge canvas. It’s been shot really well. Action, thrill, comedy, romance and all that stuff is there. But the main reason why this film was done is its plot. Here, a nine-year-old boy has been given the responsibility to take care of his mother and three siblings. There is a father, who promises to return. From the age of nine till 72, he has done everything to see that everyone stays together and his siblings get married and settle down. His journey shows it all.
It is being said that the character reflects your personality. You too have always supported your family and friends.
(Smiles) Actually, it is just the opposite. They always support me. I need the support.
Is Bharat your best film ever?
Every film is my best film.
Are you nervous?
If two-three films don’t do well, I may get nervous. So far, it’s been good. It was said that Race 3 did not do well, but it did Rs 170+ crores.
Heard that you narrated the story of Bharat to Sooraj Barjatya first?
Yes, I had narrated this subject to Sooraj Barjatya, and he made an amazing suggestion for the love story. I told Ali (Abbas Zafar, director) that he (Bharat) should not get married to her (Katrina Kaif’s Kumud). It just deviates everything. If he has his own family then what about his mother and siblings? Also, what about his focus on his father?
Which is your favourite Bharat look?
The character of the older one is awesome. He has humour, anger and swag.
Do you think your fans will accept it?
I have always been told that a hero has to have long hair. Whenever an actor’s hairline recedes, his career takes a backseat. In Tere Naam, I took my hair off and that look was accepted.
Ali says that you are a versatile and phenomenal actor but people do not look at you that way because you do not talk seriously or intellectualise your acting skills like others, who say, "I isolated myself.." or "I didn’t sleep for two days to prep for the role"
(Cuts in) But as it is I don’t sleep much, I sleep for just two to three hours and it is not because I work hard on my characters in the night. I paint, I write and I watch TV. I have this habit when I watch TV — if something is already going on it, I don’t change the channel. I get upset when somebody comes and changes the channel. Even if it is the Tata Sky homepage, I keep watching it. Then somebody comes and changes it. If cricket is going on, I watch it though I don’t understand much. If some South channel is on, like Raj TV, I watch it. The most dangerous thing nowadays is web shows. I finish four-four seasons in one go.
Which one are you watching these days?
I was watching Game Of Thrones but I stopped. I watched till the fourth season. Then there was a break, so I couldn’t see the whole thing. Then I watched Vikings. It’s outstanding. I finished Taboo. Then there was a show called Arrow. I like watching period stuff. I watched Peaky Blinders. Now I want to watch Money Heist. There are three-four more web shows that I would like to watch.
Do you take suggestions from your family?
Yeah, from my sisters! The day before yesterday, I heard the climax of Game Of Thrones from my sisters. They told me who killed whom and all of that.
You are producing something for the web space, right?
Yes, there is something in the pipeline. We are also producing a lot of content for television like The Kapil Sharma Show and Nach Baliye (Season 9).
Will you feature in any of the web shows you are producing?
No. But our Indian sensibilities are different, so we need to make web content keeping that in mind. I started TV because a lot of friends — with whom we cannot work in films — are big names on television. I started TV because of that, not to make money. We started to give more and more employment to directors, producers and actors.
Have you watched the Baahubali movies?
I watched Baahubali: The Beginning but could not watch Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. So I don’t know who killed Katappa (laughs). By the way, I won’t mind if you give me spoilers. Even if you tell me the whole story, I will still watch it.
How did Katrina take your comment about her winning the National Award for her performance in Bharat?
She thinks I am joking about it. She told me, "You have been saying National Award and everybody thinks it is a joke, and that I may not get it." I told her I was serious about it. But she says the way I have been saying it, people might think I am joking. I really think she truly deserves the National Award for Bharat.
Do you think Katrina was the right choice for Bharat, and not Priyanka Chopra?
Priyanka was very keen to do this film. Initially, Ali and we thought that it was Katrina Kaif's film. But she had just done Tiger Zinda Hai with me. Straight after Tiger Zinda Hai, doing another film with me did not make sense. Moreover, Ali said it was the role of a Hindustani girl. I said, ‘It’s strange. Katrina is your friend. You have worked with her on multiple projects.' I asked him if Katrina herself did not have the confidence to pull off a Hindustani role. I mean, she has been living in India for the last 20 years. I told him, ‘Don’t be ridiculous. She has done so many films like Raajneeti, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani. Just because she has recently done films like Bang Bang, she won’t be able to play an Indian?’ It was ridiculous!
But then Ali said Priyanka had called him up and wanted to do this role. Priyanka and my sister, Arpita, are good friends. After that, the 'Nick story’ happened. She chose to get married, which is a very bold, brave and amazing step to take. She did what she wanted and Katrina got what she deserved.
Your films are panned by critics but loved by audiences. What do you have to say about critics and movie reviews?
These are the negative people. What to expect from them? It does not matter to me what they will say about me and my film. At times, they will give my film five stars, the other time minus five. They don’t understand anything. Even if their reviews affect 10-15 percent of the audience and people don’t go to watch it, that 10-15 percent less income makes a lot of difference to the poor producer. Films are not cheap to make. Films are not made in Rs 1 crore today. My film, Maine Pyar Kiya, was made with the budget of Rs 1.11 and it was the highest budgeted film at that point of time. The scenario is not the same anymore. Today, even the smallest film is made with Rs 25-30 crores. So you need to recover that money. Write reviews, but don’t be irresponsible. Don’t make fun of somebody’s work. Let the audience go and watch it. It may not make any difference in my life, but there are people who get affected by it.
When are you starting Inshallah?
Inshallah, Inshallah will start soon.

@ratnananda asked multiple questions from the Film meme, to be answered for Indian cinema only!
Behind the cut for length
What’s the most depressing movie you’ve ever watched?
Does anyone make it through the end of Moondram Pirai/Sadma without crying? I…doubt it’s possible.
What’s the most disturbing movie you’ve ever watched?
Sethu/Tere Naam. Both in the ultimate end (…these are a definite contender for the answer to #1) but also because the love story, that you’re meant to buy into, is a truly appalling case of Stockholm Syndrome (complete with kidnapping the terrified love interest! and generally being violent— to yourself, but implicitly also to hear—until she agrees to love you!) and I find it incredibly creepy that we’re meant to support and accept their relationship.
A film you could watch on repeat for the rest of your life?
Let’s say Baahubali, because that gives 5+ hours to spread out (and at least 3 if I skip the boring/annoying parts.) Plus, I think I’ll always love it, if for nothing more than the friends I’ve made because of it!
What’s the very first film you remember watching?
I don’t remember the films I must have watched as a baby, but I remember watching the trailer for Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge very clearly.
A film you wish you hadn’t watched?
….Too many to count, but Dilwale was the most recent one that I was trapped in a theater seat for, without being able to escape. Not that it’s the most recent one I’ve watched, mind, but the others I usually watch at home with FF capabilities (and everything since that I watched in the theater, I found something to enjoy.)
A film you wish had a sequel?
Bobby Jasoos, which is quirky and silly and I can see why it didn’t do well at the box office, but is nonetheless so much fun—and I’d love to see Bobby and her hilarious supporting cast have another adventure.
The most aesthetically pleasing movie you’ve ever watched?
As much I am —very much not a fan of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s treatment of his female characters, and generally terrible love stories, to say the least; his films are all beautiful.
What’s your favourite movie director?
Rajiv Menon, Zoya Akhtar, Rajamouli, and Ashutosh Gowarikar (he’s hit-and-miss, but when he’s good, his movies are very enjoyable.)
A movie that holds a special place in your heart?
Other than those mentioned above, Kandukondain Kandukondain, to no one’s surprise. It’s just my favorite comfort watch, the songs in particular, and the sweet silly jokes.
Your favourite comedy film?
Andaaz Apna Apna, because it’s one of the few pure slapstick films that make me laugh and laugh.
A film everyone loves but you hate?
…See my grumbling about SLB all over this Tumblr.
A film you love but everyone else hates?
For Hindi, Salaam-e-Ishq (look, I know it’s super cheesy, but I’m self-indulgent enough to really really love it); for Tamil, Inji Iduppazhagi, which is flawed but charming and honestly I think it was miles better than Bridget Jones’ Diary (and had a more realistic look at fatphobia/fitness than that did).
Which cinematic universe would you like to live in?
Ooh, yikes, I’m always leery of this question—that is, I like antibiotics! and feminism! and civil rights!—and plus i always figure I’ll always be a background character, so that rules out anything historical/fantasy. And what’s the point of living in a present day movie? It’d be the same as your regular life!
What’s your favourite biopic?
Mahanati! So good. I promised my mother we’d watch it together, and I’m waiting to rewatch it and pick up on all the little subtleties I missed the first time, so except the reblog spam at that point ;)
A film with an amazing soundtrack?
Any Mani Ratnam + Rahman collaboration (with the possible exception of Kadal) are just one of the many amazing ones; but I mean, most films have at least one song I like. Ooh, another little known favorite is Arjun: The Warrior Prince (the Disney Mahabharat movie), which I’m mentioning because more people need to know about it, but also a pretty excellent soundtrack.

Ask meme: talk about 4,1,6,18,23
talk about meme →
you said don’t do this but i still did @puppyloveblog24 :P
4: Talk about the thing you regret most so far.
High School. And the friends I made then. I used to date a guy, my first ever relationship. Everyone knew about us. We were something like high school sweethearts. He was from the same year as me, but different class. 8 months into the relationship and the people I considered my best friends, fed me lies about him and made me break up with him. Why you may ask? Because another guy from our own group liked me and they wanted to make sure I was in a relationship with the “right guy” cause they felt oh-so responsible for me. But they turned on me as soon as the holidays began. It was all stupid and I realized that only way later from another friend ((who is my best friend now)). I cut all ties with them and I regret making such insensitive friends till this day. But above all, I regret how I broke up with that guy… on his birthday. I can be heartless!!
1: Talk about the first time you watched your favorite movie.
I’d have to say Baahubali The Beginning. It released on a Friday and I had absolutely no clue about the movie, I hadn’t even watched the trailer. I was working that Saturday, but office was way too boring. So me and a couple of my friends decided to go watch a movie after lunch and I looked up for tickets and found them available for Telugu version of some Baahubali. Now, both of my friends are telugu and having known them throughout the five years of my college life, I understand and speak telugu too. Plus, all of us loved Prabhas and Rana, and especially SSR. So we just went to watch it, completely blind. It was the second day of its release okay? I purposefully didn’t read any reviews about it. I, infact, saw the trailer only after I booked the tickets. We went to the theatre, bought our popcorns and sat in our seats. ((more under the cut))
That map in the title cards played with that haunting title track and I got hooked immediately. And then this huge waterfalls appears, out of which Sivagami comes with a baby in her hand; bruised and battered; but still kills those two soldiers; and then slips into the river; commands the lord to save the child; and gives up her own life but still saves the baby. I was in tears. And then the entire movie happens and ends with THAT MIGHTY CLIFFHANGER. I sit there, staring at the end credits, too stunned for words. I refused to get out of my seat claiming that there was some mistake and they forgot to play the rest half of the movie. I sat there crying for twenty minutes, asking the operators to play the rest of the movie in between my crying fits. My embarrassed friends had to drag me out of the theatre and I was bawling all the way… I wasn’t convinced about there being another part of the movie and that it would release only next year no matter how many times my friends told me the truth. We went and watched the movie again the very next day. And this time, I saw “Baahubali - The Conclusion in 2016″ during the end credits between my tears and I walked myself out of the theatre, still bawling. My friends swore to never come to the movies again with me, ever. But I still got to watch Baahubali 2 the second time with them in India!!
6: Talk about the worst birthday you’ve had.
My 14th birthday. It was exactly ten days after my grandma lost her fight to cancer. The first eleven years of my life, I lived with my grandparents. I loved her so much… I still miss her. Often. It was the first birthday I spent without her around… It was the worst.
18: Talk about something that happened in elementary school.
I was in my fourth grade. It was the last day of school. I had two friends then. Everyone was playing and having a fun time while I was sitting there cluelessly on one of the desks, while my two friends stood before me. Friend1 was accusing Friend2 and fighting with her about something I don’t remember any more. It was a long fight, friend2 kept quiet throughout it like me. I still don’t know what exactly happened but I started crying at one point and she too started crying. But friend1 wouldn’t stop her tirade. After a while, her twin came and took her away ((he actually dragged her away I think)). I hugged everyone and bid tearful farewells after that. Summer holidays began the next day and I didn’t go back to that school the next year. Ten years later, I coincidentally met friend2. We were going to two different colleges in the same city. It was the best kind of reunion if I’m honest. She’s one of my bestest friends now. ((I have only 3))
23: Talk about a time someone turned you down.
*snorts* I have never been turned down really. Its like I approach the person only after absolutely making sure, they are into me as much as I am into them. I always know!! But then there was this one time I read a person wrongly, or I thought I did. I did ask him out but he said he saw me only as a friend. I didn’t feel really let down by it, I think I saw it coming mostly. I was confused though and it did hurt. But we continued being friends and I moved on eventually. Not even a year had gone by when the guy accidentally let it slip that he liked me as well. And that he turned me down before only because he wasn’t sure of his own feelings regarding me. But that jerk was a little too late. He is my best ever friend now. So people, me and him are that girl and a guy who are best friends that did fall for each other at the most wrongest of times possible. We simply exist to make that saying true!!

It includes Avengers, Marvel blockbuster and the biggest Bollywood grosser 2019, named Kabir Singh.
The movie version in Hindi is anticipated to open roughly about Rs 15 – 20 crore, states the trade analyst of this film named Girish Johar. He says that “This buzz is really good. Shraddha and Prabhas are the main characters, and their response to this trailer is outstanding. Even though it is the non-festive movie but a board released in the Hindi language, this non-holiday opening of roughly about Rs 15-20 crore is fantastic. Apart from that, it is considering how few Bollywood actors fight back to deliver the opening of Rs 10 crore.”
It is good news for film lovers is that this film will also release in Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu. The most important thing to note is that it may not be capable of touching the record previously set by the earlier film of Prabhas named Baahubali: The Conclusion.
“This thing is not fair for comparing Saasho with this earlier movie. It is because Baahubali: The  Conclusion is the desi mythological and traditional Indian film. On the other hand, Saaho is an upmarket, stylish, sleek, and contemporary movie. Prabhas is a famous star and also is coming after offering two of the largest blockbuster movie, but it is not correct for comparing them. “
Girish said while talking about this opening of this highly expected movie in the south, “this movie should open at Rs 15 crore in Tamil, Rs 3-5 crore in Malayalam and Rs 35 crore in Telugu. This movie should also open throughout the country at roughly about Rs 60 – 70 crore in every language.”
Also, if the movie opens more than Rs 60 crore in different languages, it can beat this record of the uppermost Bollywood opener, known as Thugs of Hindostan starring Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan, which opened roughly about Rs 50 crore. Also, it can beat the entire opening day statistics of Avengers: Endgame. It is because this movie made roughly about Rs 53 crore even on the first day. Though, it will not be capable of beating the biggest movie Baahubali: The Conclusion, whose Rs 120 crore opening cost remains untouched.
Saaho will actually play in roughly about 5000-6000 screens throughout India that includes about 3500 screens in Hindi. Also, it is highly anticipated to release in over 1000-2000 screens overseas. Also, it stars Neil Nitin Mukesh, Jackie Shroff, Arun Vijay, Chunky Panday, Mahesh Manjrekar and Mandira Bedi.
Ramesh Bala, who is an analyst, adds that “Baahubali 2 is one of the largest grossers in India. When it comes to Saaho, it is the next movie of Prabhas Baahubali 2. Due to this, the expectations are sky-high. Luckily, this film is releasing in many languages. A single release of this movie is on 30th August through 550 screens in Tamil Nadu and 1,500 screens in Telugu states.”

★ Bharat director Ali Abbas Zafar says he really wants to work with Aamir, SRK, Ranbir and Varun, but ‘Bhai is not leaving me !
Seema Sinha | Jun 02, 2019
Salman Khan’s Bharat — one of the biggest and most anticipated films this year, is Ali Abbas Zafar’s third collaboration with the superstar after Sultan and Tiger Zinda Hai. Firstpost caught up with the director for a free-wheeling chat about (among other things) making Salman work harder with each film, adapting a Korean film to an Indian context, his last minute casting of Katrina Kaif and how ‘Bhai’ isn’t ready to leave him. Excerpts:
Salman Khan, is otherwise known to be a casual actor, but for you he seems to go that extra mile when it comes to prepping up for the role. Earlier it was Sultan, then Tiger Zinda Hai and now Bharat. How come?
(Laughs) Actually he is a very hard working actor and every time I take a script to him there is something very challenging for him to do. Even for me, I feel that if you do simple stuff you can get very complacent. With SK (Salman Khan) when I go and tell him, ‘Sir, this time we will have to work even harder as compared to what we did last time', he enjoys it. He has his good days and bad days, he is moody. But he enjoys the process.
How challenging was it adapting from a Korean film?
After Sultan, Salman gave me this DVD and said, 'Why don't you watch this? It's a very simple story about a displaced family and a promise that a son makes to his father. The germ of the film is very Indian. But I had to completely rewrite the film to fit it into the Indian context, and that too, in a mainstream Hindi film. The film is history and more than that it is an evolution of a full character.
Salman’s character starts when he is eight-nine years old and he goes till he is 72 years old, so he has to play the same person in different age groups and yet has to be very consistent with the story-line. At heart, it is a very simple emotional story of a displaced family in partition but the impact of the story is very high because not only do you see him, but you also see the nation change. People around him change and how these changes keep impacting his life. So it is a very challenging film as an actor which he understood on the script level. He has done an outstanding job.
The film is also quite challenging for me. It was like making six Salman Khan films because he is there in six different looks. And because we’re capturing six or seven decades of his life, every decade became a film within itself, every chapter has a beginning, middle and end. So when you watch the film, it’s like you’re watching six films within one film.
Also, every chapter of his life is like a short film. Every chapter has some new character which comes and goes. It was like a nightmare…and then to keep the emotional continuity going throughout the film was very challenging. But we have also kept it light and entertaining with lot of humor in it because humor works with Salman, and you also feel for the drama. The film is set in the middle classes of India which is a very colourful social strata with lot of people around him.
What was Salman’s reaction after watching the film?
When Salman doesn’t say anything after watching his film it means you are on good grounds (Laughs). It's the same with Salim (Khan) uncle. Both didn’t say anything so I am happy.
Was Salman patient enough with the look and weight gain and loss?
Yes, he was. He is still very unpredictable like he was from his very first film with me, but now he has become little patient and he understands that whatever preparation was happening was happening for the right cause and for the necessary impact from the film. His oldest look is the coolest one and he has portrayed it in the coolest way. But he would say all the time that what I was making him do. He would tell me that first you do this make-up, first you wear this beard and moustache and show me that old look. During Sultan he would tell me to wear the chaddi and come into the mud (laughs).
Did he have lot of questions for you?
He has good days and bad days. Some days he will not ask you anything, whereas some days he would want to sit an extra hour and ask lot of questions while having his coffee, and then again he would get up and say, ‘Okay, now it is done’.
How has Salman evolved as an actor over the years?
He is a very versatile actor. He is someone who can do films like Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Sultan and also do a film like Bharat and at the same time also do a Chulbul Pandey. But people don't look at him that way because he doesn’t talk very seriously about his acting skills. If he starts using those heavy duty words that I got into the character and I didn’t sleep for two days, people would take him seriously. He is a phenomenal actor and that is why he has this huge mass connect.
Many new records are being set with Avengers, Baahubali…and then Salman himself breaks his own record. Is there a pressure?
Yes, there will always be pressure with a big film. It is also a landmark film. But somewhere or the other we are all very clear that if the film is good, records will follow automatically. So the idea while making the film should only be about putting your best foot forward to make the best film on that day and that is what we work towards. And we have always seen that if the film is good it might just start slow but eventually it does lot of business. That is the approach we usually take.
Though your Tiger Zinda Hai was a huge success, there is also Salman’s Race 3 and Tubelight that didn’t meet the expectations. Does that worry you?
I am okay, I don’t think that would affect anything. Salman is still a huge star, the kind of buzz that Bharat has created with the trailer and the songs, is phenomenal. We have been getting messages from trade people that the vibe of the film is looking very good. Now it all boils down to the content and story. When the audience finds that this film is bringing something new, they will go for it.
You clearly didn’t want Katrina Kaif as she and Salman had just done TZH. Now that the film is ready for release what are your thoughts?
Getting Katrina on board was a very conscious decision. When Priyanka couldn’t do the film for X reason, I told Katrina, "You read the script but you have to understand one thing that I am not going to change anything in the film because there is a certain edge to Kumud Raina’s (played by Katrina) character." So when Katrina read the script she understood why I don’t want to change anything and then she worked backwards to get into the character for which she did lot of acting and language workshops and further she was styled for the part. We started from the scratch and I think her performance in Bharat will be nicely appreciated because it is very new for her and the audience.
You have said that the romantic scenes between Salman and Katrina comes very naturally...
They really look good together, so the problem is that you have to write scenes which are not love scenes because if you write love scenes then those will look very clichéd on both of them. So I try and write real scenes which are about real things and real conversations and automatically just with the way they look at each other it becomes a love scene.
You are already working on the third franchise of Tiger.
Yes, I have kind of narrowed down a story for the third instalment of Tigerfranchise but we haven’t made any announcement yet. I have shared that story with Salman and Adi (producer Aditya Chopra) and both are quite excited. So once Bharat gets out of my system, we will start working towards it.
As a director what is your take on the industry, how is it evolving? The monumental success of Raazi, Stree, Andhadhun, Badhaai Ho — the midsize films that defied the box office rules.
Content driven films have always worked. Deewar, Lagaan...these were all content driven films. Good film has only worked because it has a story, so let’s not start calling story content. Every time a director makes a film which is new for its times, is always going to work.
Who is your target audience for Bharat?
This is a pan India film, there is no target audience. From a seven-eight-year-old to a 100-plus, it has everyone in the film.
You may be wanting to work with other actors as well?
I really want to work with Aamir, Shah Rukh, Akshay, Ajay Devgn, Ranbir, Varun, Arjun — they are all very good actors. You just have to find the right story to do with them and then it all clicks, but right now ‘Bhai’ (Salman) is not leaving me (laughs).

Not a great start for Baahubali 2 in Tamil Nadu
Tumblr media
Baahubali 2 hit the screens today worldwide and the social media is filled with posts about it. It was a mayhem at theaters screening Baahubali 2 with fans storming the theatres to get their tickets. Premier shows had a great response with media, critics and celebrities heaping praises on the director Rajamouli. Everything was going smoothly as planned by the makers till the morning of the release day. Baahubali 2faces yet another challenge in and this time in Tamil Nadu.

Fans in Tamil Nadu were not happy because they must wait for a bit longer to watch the magnum opus. Apparently, the morning shows of Baahubali 2 across Chennai were cancelled because of a tiff between the distributors and the producers of Baahubali 2. K Productions, the distributors, did not receive a clearance from the producers to screen the shows before 11 AM.
Tumblr media
Hundreds of people gathered outside many theatres in Chennai from as early as 3 AM to watch Baahubali 2 but only to witness the shows being cancelled. “I am here outside Rohini theatre from 3 AM and it was so irresponsible of the theatre owners to sell tickets if the show rights were not there. There was a lathi charge and two people were taken into custody,” said a disappointed fan.
The owners of the theatre had put a board with a message to the viewers – “Across the state of Tamil Nadu the release of the movie was not there and hence at 7:55, 8 and 8:15, the shows have been cancelled.” This enraged the fans and resulted in a chaotic environment resulting in the intervention of police near most of the theatres.
According to the latest report at 11 AM, the differences between the distributors and producers were still not cleared and the shows were not screened. Only time will say if Baahubali 2 will see the light of the day in Tamil Nadu.

Movie Monday! #63
‘Movie Monday’ is a blog post I share every Monday talking about the 3  movies that have caught my attention to the most that week. Tumblr media
The trailer of this movie adaptation was breathtaking. I was spellbound the entire time and even though it’s a TV movie (HBO), I’m just happy to see more and more diverse films with each passing year. It looks wonderful and I look forward to it.
2. Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017)

Yes, I’m one of the gazillion people who was waiting for this movie to come and now that the trailer is here, I cannot wait for April 28 to come soon!
