ST. LOUIS — Visitors to St. Louis City Hall will have their temperature taken beginning Tuesday before they’re allowed to enter.Mayor Lyda Krewson tweeted on Monday night that visitors would be screened via a noncontact infrared thermometer.
As an additional precaution to the public and @STLCityGov employees, we will begin using non-contact infrared thermometers on Tuesday, March 17 for people trying to enter City Hall & 1520 Market St.

Anyone with a temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher will not be allowed inside City Hall or 1520 Market Street, where the city’s municipal court and Department of Health operate. The measure is a new precaution being taken in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. On Monday the city was notified of its first positive case of the virus. A notice from the city states that anyone having traveled to a foreign country within the last 14 days or who had close contact with someone who has traveled outside the country also won’t be allowed inside the building. The notice also bans anyone with unexplained fever or shortness of breath, and anyone having been ordered by a doctor to self-quarantine. As people waited in line to be scanned, most of them seemed to be observing social distancing and keeping six feet or more between one another. There was a line of more than a dozen people shortly after City Hall opened at 8 a.m. Colter Peterson of the Post-Dispatch staff contributed information to this article.

🔥The etiquette of destination weddings🔥
The latest lifestyle, fashion and travel trends
We all know weddings can be tricky, whether you’re planning your own or just attending as a guest. From expenses to etiquette, the wedding world can be a minefield of “it costs how much?” and unintended faux pas.
This only becomes even more complicated when you’re faced with the prospect of a destination wedding – especially as a guest.
A recent study shows that attending a destination wedding as a guest can cost between £800 and up to a whopping £4,000 and beyond. It’s one thing to expect your guests to dish out for that Le Creuset pot, but taking out a second mortgage for that Antigua wedding is something quite different. And Brits are in agreement, more than a third would choose not to attend a wedding if it was abroad due to the costs and complications involved.
While Bridebook’s wedding expertise might not stretch so far as paying for the trip, we most certainly can help guide you through the (sometimes befuddling) etiquette of attending a destination wedding.
What should I expect to pay for?
First things first, make sure you check your invitation or the couple’s wedding website thoroughly before jumping to any conclusions. It’s up to them to be transparent with their guests on what they expect them to cover. The standard, however, is for the guests to pay for their own flights and accommodation. The couple will usually be considerate enough to provide you with a list of recommended accommodation options that cover a variety of price ranges to help out.
Sadly, that’s not all though. Guests should also expect to cover their own odd meals (those that don’t fall within the schedule of celebrations).
What will the bride and groom be covering?
Guests should expect the bride and groom to essentially be covering anything to do with the party. Often destination weddings are whole weekend affairs, so if there are any activities or extra meals laid out in the schedule of events, you can rest easy knowing those will be compliments of the couple.
Unique London wedding venues
Can I say no?
Yes. As wonderful an occasion weddings can be, the destination wedding of your second cousin twice removed is not worth taking a second mortgage on your house for, especially when you already have to deal with the already steep cost of attending a wedding in the UK.
If you decide not to go, be sure to inform the couple as soon as possible and give them the honest reason you have decided not to attend. Any couple planning a wedding abroad will be understanding of the circumstance – it’s a destination wedding hazard after all. We do recommend, however, that if you opt out of attending a wedding you put some extra thought into the couple’s wedding gift.
Saving Tips:
If you do decide to take the plunge to attend a destination wedding, or if the wedding is just too important an occasion to miss, we do have some simple saving tips to make it that little bit less painful. One of the greatest expenses is the accommodation, so why not team up with some other attendees and pitch into an Airbnb or house rental together? It saves hundreds of pounds over booking multiple hotel rooms for multiple nights. You can also be smart about booking flights, whether it’s cashing those miles you’ve accumulated, flying on a budget airline, or booking a flight for an off-peak day such as a Thursday instead of a Friday.
You should also never hesitate to try and make compromises. If you’re already stretching your finances to get there, ask the couple whether you can opt out or delay on getting them their wedding gift.
Married Hamish Shephard is the founder of free online wedding planner Bridebook.co.uk. His ES column, ‘Groom with a View’, gives fuss-free, practical advice to make wedding planning as enjoyable as it should be.

🔥It's desolate: coronavirus lockdown takes buzz out of big apple's nightlife🔥
Many of the establishments around Williamsburg — a popular evening destination in Brooklyn — had already shut before last night’s deadline for bars and restaurants to close.
But outside The Gibson bar, a chalk-written sign invited punters in for “one last drink” before New York’s coronavirus lockdown.
Inside, a few regulars savoured their final moments at their local. Nicole Douillet, 41, said: “We want it to end as soon as possible. But we are really worried for friends who own bars and restaurants.” Bartender Annie Creeden, 37, said most people understand why action is necessary but added: “People are just going to lose their minds and be at home. There’s going to be a lot of babies and divorces.”
She now faces the prospect of unemployment. “Nothing’s going to be open, where is there to work?”
New York governor Andrew Cuomo announced restaurants and bars — as well as cinemas, gyms and casinos — across the state will be closed “until further notice”.
Crowds at recreational and social events will be limited to 50 people.
For many establishments, the move could spell disaster as they struggle to keep up with rent and costs. But bars and restaurants will be allowed to offer takeaways and deliveries.
On the cobbled streets of Manhattan’s Meatpacking district, there were few pedestrians. An empty stretch limo circled the block and one bar was even boarded up.
Nick Advani, 39, a finance worker who lives in the area, agreed to speak from a distance of several metres. “This is crazy, it’s just desolate.” Brian Rodriguez, 25, a retail worker from East Village, said the closures are unifying the city: “I feel like this brings everybody together a little bit.”
In Times Square, British tourists Alfie Coldron and Melissa Johnson, both 23 and from Ipswich, were disappointed to find nowhere open. Determined to make the best of it, they bought a McDonald’s and ate it at a table. They’re now trying to bring their flight home forward from Friday to tomorrow.

🔥Biden looks to lock in lead, shut out Sanders even though COVID-19 closes Ohio polls🔥
Narrow victories by Joe Biden in Tuesday’s primaries would effectively end the Democratic presidential nomination fight, making it nearly impossible for Bernie Sanders to capture the delegates needed.
Three states, Arizona, Florida and Illinois will hold votes on Tuesday despite concerns about voters and poll workers becoming infected with the coronavirus. Ohio was scheduled to have a primary as well, but back-and-forth court action late Monday ended with the voting being delayed.
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine had asked a court to delay his state’s primary to June 2, and two people in their 60s sued, saying they shouldn’t have to choose between their health and voting. But Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Richard Frye said it would be a “terrible precedent” for a court to step in at the last minute to rewrite the election code.
Within hours, DeWine said the state health director, Amy Acton, would order the polls closed as a health emergency. He said the secretary of state, Frank LaRose, would work to extend voting options “so that every voter who wants to vote will be granted that opportunity.”
Biden was heavily favored in all four states, as well as the remaining major contests in the spring, a continuation of his sweep of the contests since South Carolina that has put him on a glide path to the nomination.
DeWine sought the delay because, he said, “to conduct an election tomorrow would force poll workers and voters to place themselves at an unacceptable health risk of contracting coronavirus.”
It was just the latest twist in a dramatic and unpredictable primary battle that has now been transformed into a quarantined campaign — even as Sunday’s debate showed an ideological rift remains between the two top contenders.
The three states voting Tuesday will award a total of 441 delegates, making it the third-biggest delegate haul on the primary calendar and a tipping point in the nomination contest.
After Tuesday, Biden will have a majority of the delegates awarded so far and more than half of the 1,991 needed to win the nomination outright.
The question for Sanders is whether to keep his campaign going. For Biden’s allies, staying in would only make it harder to create the unity the Democratic Party will need to defeat President Donald Trump in November.
“What we can’t do is get into a process that makes it more likely that Donald Trump is re-elected,” said Representative Cedric Richmond of Louisiana in a phone call with reporters arranged by the Biden campaign. “There are going to have to be hard decisions that are made after the next couple of primaries.”
Election workers wait for voters during the Florida primary election at Doris & Phil Sanford Fire Rescue Station Coral Gables in Miami, Florida, on March 17, 2020.

Sanders conceded in Sunday’s debate that he’s losing the delegate race but insisted he’s winning the policy arguments.
“Joe has won more states than I have. But here’s what we are winning. We are winning the ideological struggle,” the Vermont senator said, citing exit polls showing a majority of Democrats favor his Medicare-for-All health care plan. Sanders argues that the coronavirus pandemic makes his government-run health insurance plan even more essential.
But the public health crisis could also work to Biden’s advantage, as Democratic voters seek his experience as vice president over Sanders’s promise of a political revolution.
“If people were in a position where they were willing to take a risk, Bernie could have some appeal,” said former Ohio Governor Ted Strickland, who has endorsed Biden. “But I think what they want now is reassurance, and they want someone who is experienced, someone who is mature.”
After two weeks of multistate primaries in which he split wins with Sanders, Biden owns every state in Tuesday’s contests according to polls. He leads by 20.5 percentage points in Arizona, 42.8 points in Florida, 29.5 points in Illinois and was leading 22.5 points in Ohio, according to the RealClearPolitics averages.
Governors in all four states have declared states of emergency because of the coronavirus pandemic, limiting some public events and closing schools.
State election officials in Arizona, Florida and Illinois say they can conduct in-person voting safely, but some polling places in nursing homes and assisted living facilities are being moved and the states are experiencing a shortage of poll workers, who are often retirees.
Who will turn out?
The coronavirus could affect the generation gap among supporters for Biden and Sanders. Older voters favor Biden, but their increased vulnerability to the virus could suppress their voting, which would favor Sanders a little. Conversely, so many universities and colleges have canceled classes that many of the young people who back Sanders may not be living where they are registered at the time it comes to vote, suppressing support for Sanders.
“If you had asked me before this coronavirus scare, I would say Joe Biden would win in a landslide, but right now it’s hard to tell,” said Tara Samples, an Akron City councilwoman and co-chairwoman of the Sanders campaign in Ohio. “I think it’s going to be a lot closer than what people think.”
Sanders suggested to CNN Sunday that states should consider postponing the primaries, as Louisiana and Georgia have. “I would hope governors would listen to the public health experts,” he said. On Monday, Kentucky put off its primary, from May 19 to June 23.
Representative Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii also remains in the race but has been receiving less than 2% of the vote.

🔥Maida Vale street is London's first fully converted to lamppost charging for electric cars🔥
The first residential street in London to fully cater for electric vehicles (EVs) has been unveiled.
Sunderland Avenue in Maida Vale has seen 24 of its lampposts converted into electric charging points, creating what has been dubbed the capital’s first “electric avenue”.
Bringing the total number of lamp column charge points in Westminster to 296, two of the avenue’s adjoining roads are scheduled to receive the same treatment in the coming weeks.
The project, which was led by Siemens in partnership with ubitricity and Westminster City Council, was made possible by making use of the local electricity network already in place.
Large numbers of charge points can be accommodated by the local grid, owing to the medium power rating and predominantly overnight pattern of charging, which aligns with the existing grid capacity.
Chargepoint kits are installed inside lampposts in under an hour, meaning they do not have to be removed to be converted.
The W9 project comes off the back of research revealing more than a third of British motorists (36%) are looking to purchase a hybrid or electric vehicle as their next car, with 40% claiming the absence of charging points had prevented them from doing so before now.
With the highest number of locally registered EV owners of all the London boroughs, Westminster City Council is planning to increase its number of EV charging points to 1,000 units within 2020.
Recent data found that 80% of motorists in central London think improving air quality in the capital is “very important”, with 83% claiming to have become more concerned about their carbon footprint in the past five years.
(Siemens)
Siemens and ubitricity have now installed more than 1,300 charging points across the capital, largely supported by Go Ultra Low Cities Scheme – a programme developed by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles to provide funding for UK local authorities encouraging Brits to make the switch to EV.
“In a city that suffers from some of the worst air pollution in the country, we need to be supporting the change to green technology as much as we can,” said Westminster City Council Councillor Andrew Smith.
“‘Electric Avenue, W9’ gives us a glimpse into the future of streets in Westminster, where we hope to provide the infrastructure needed for our residents to make the switch to cleaner, greener transport.”
Cedrik Neike, CEO of Siemens Smart Infrastructure, added: “We know that half of London’s air pollution is caused by road transport and Westminster is a particularly busy area.
“While we cannot solve the challenge of air quality overnight, ‘Electric Avenue W9’ is an important showcase of what’s possible using existing city infrastructure.”
Eighty per cent of Britons are worried that the UK’s air pollution limits do not align with those of the World Health Organisation, research released earlier this year revealed.

Your guide to what’s hot in London
Ticket sales for BTS’ upcoming European dates have been postponed — although organisers are yet to confirm whether the tour itself will be affected by the coronavirus outbreak.

The seven-piece are set to visit North America, Japan, the UK and the rest of Europe throughout 2020 in support of their latest album, Map of the Soul: 7.
As it stands, those shows — including the concerts at Twickenham Stadium on July 3 and 4 — are still set to go ahead. However, the dates on which fans can buy tickets has changed.

🔥Singapore bank raid suspect accused of £17,000 heist to be extradited from UK🔥
The latest headlines in your inbox
A suspected robber accused of stealing £17,000 from a Singapore bank has been extradited from the UK to face criminal charges.
David James Roach allegedly walked out of the Standard Chartered bank with an envelope of cash after handing a note to the cashier saying: “This is a robbery, I have a gun in my bag”.
A 26-year-old cashier, fearing for her safety, quietly handed over the money in the July 7, 2016 robbery.
Two days later Roach is said to have flown to Thailand. However, he was stopped at customs with an envelope of cash and sentenced to 14 months in prison for violating money laundering and Thai customs laws.
The Canadian was deported in January 2018 and detained in London.
Judges have now ordered his extradition back to Singapore to face robbery and theft charges.
His legal fight against extradition ended yesterday when a last-ditch appeal against returning him to Singapore was rejected.

🔥Birds Of Prey Is Hitting Homes Early Too, So Make Some Egg Sandwiches🔥
It has obviously been a very eventful few days in the world news cycle. Concerns over COVID-19 have put people into self-quarantine, resulting in the entertainment industry coming to a screeching halt. Plenty of studios have pushed back their upcoming blockbusters from months to a year, while sets and theaters are being shut down indefinitely. But with audiences spending more time at home, Universal has opted to make its new releases available On Demand early. And now it looks like Cathy Yan’s Birds of Prey is going to follow suit, and be available to watch from the comfort of your home.
The most recently installment in the DC Extended Universe was Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). While it was later renamed due to disappointing box office performance, Cathy Yan’s blockbuster was a colorful look into Harley’s mind, and introduced a group of femme fatales to Gotham City. Yan expressed her approval of the movie’s early VOD release via social media, and now it’s come to fruition.
This latest update comes to us from Variety, announcing the early arrival of Birds of Prey from the big screen to your television. The female-centric superhero movie will officially be released on demand March 24th, in exactly one week from the time of writing. There wasn’t an official date for when the movie was going to be available on demand, but it was moved up in response to COVID-19 concerns and fan interest.
The global health pandemic has resulted in a seismic change in daily life, with people encouraged to self-isolate and work from home if possible, in order to contain the spread of COVID-19. As such, families have relied more heavily on their TV and streaming services to provide entertainment as they’re cooped up inside. This is why studios will release movies On Demand early. In addition to servicing the audience and allowing projects to be seen while theaters are closed, this is also an opportunity to make some profit.
Universal has made plans to release its most recent movies On Demand, starting with Trolls World Tour. The animated musical movie is being released for digital rental on its original release date. What’s more, the studio is planning to follow suit with recent movies Emma, The Invisible Man, and The Hunt. When Birds of Prey director Cathy Yan saw this trend she posted the following message on social media:
Now it appears that Warner Bros. took Cathy Yan’s approval seriously, as Birds of Prey will be available to rent digitally in just seven days. While the movie was a critical success, the R-rated romp failed to make as much money as its predecessors in the DCEU. But perhaps social distancing and self-quarantine will result in the movie making an unexpected profit. Only time will tell.
Birds of Prey will be available via Video on Demand on March 24th. In the meantime, check out our 2020 release list to look ahead at the movies coming down the pipeline.

🔥UK aiming for under 20,000 deaths from virus: government chief scientist🔥
FILE PHOTO: A woman walks on Westminster bridge in Westminster as she wears a protective face mask while the number of coronavirus cases grow around the world. London, Britain, March 17, 2020. REUTERS/Hannah McKay
LONDON (Reuters) – Britain hopes the measures it has taken to tackle coronavirus mean it will have below 20,000 deaths from the outbreak, the governent’s chief scientific adviser Patrick Vallance said on Tuesday.
On Monday, the government ramped up its battle against the virus, shutting down social life in Britain and ordering the most vulnerable to isolate for 12 weeks.
Vallance said the impact of the measures on the number of infections should be seen in two to three weeks. Based on the modelling being used by the government, it is a “reasonable ballpark” that Britain actually has around 55,000 cases of the virus, compared to the 1,543 confirmed by testing, he said.
He told a committee of lawmakers when asked about deaths: “If we can get this down to 20,000 and below, that is a good outcome in terms of where we would hope to get to with this outbreak. It is still horrible, it is still an enormous number of deaths and it is an enormous pressure on the health service.”

🔥Avatar Sequels Suffer Production Shutdown, Will This Mean More Delays For Long-Awaited Franchise?🔥
With coronavirus now impacting basically every place on the earth, and anywhere not significantly impacted trying to keep it that way, pretty much all non-essential work that requires large groups of people has completely stopped. That includes most if not all film productions. What the long term impact of these delays will be is unclear, mostly because we’re all still unsure when work might resume, but one has to assume that it could mean delays in the release of a number of upcoming films, including some films that we’ve already been waiting on for quite a long time, like the Avatar sequels.
Work is, or, in this case, was, ongoing in New Zealand to film Avatar 2, 3, and, according to Variety, parts of Avatar 4 as well. However, that production, as with so many others, is now on hold. The film’s executive team, that may or may not have included director James Cameron, was set to fly to New Zealand last week in order to resume some filming, but that trip was obviously cancelled.
Even if getting the production underway was a good idea, and most would agree it was not, New Zealand currently has some significant travel restrictions in place, including a 14-day quarantine period for any international travelers entering the country, so the Avatar team would have to wait around for two weeks before anything else could even be done. There are a dozen confirmed cases of coronavirus in New Zealand, though, thus far, no deaths.
Avatar 2 is currently scheduled to release in December 2021, 12 years, almost to the day, after the first film debuted and became, at the time, the highest grossing film ever. Fans have been waiting for a long time for these films, and there’s every reason to believe they may have to wait a bit longer. All the Avatar filming for all the films is happening at once, rather than sequentially, so there may still be shots for Avatar 2, that are left to film.
While filming has ceased, it’s unclear what’s happening with post-production work, which is being done alongside filming. That might still be going on, or it may be happening on a smaller scale with a smaller team, or it may have also stopped entirely. Even if filming for the first sequel is complete, post-production almost certainly is not.
If there is still a significant amount of work to be done on Avatar 2, then the longer this stoppage continues the more likely a delay will take place in the release. Even though Avatar 2 is nearly two years away, it’s not outside the realm of possibility that the coronvirus today could still be impacting the world two years from now, even if the virus itself is no longer an active concern.
Of course, with so many other movies impacted, and release dates being pushed back, Avatar 2 could end up seeing a delay not because it needs one, but because Disney will have a collection of other films that need new release dates following the mass production shutdown. Expect to see a massive shift to the release calendar once the dust has settled.

🔥Latest government guidelines on social distancing and self isolation during coronavirus outbreak🔥
The latest headlines in your inbox
The Government has ramped up its social distancing measures to fight the escalating coronavirus pandemic.
Boris Johnson has urged everyone to avoid “non-essential” social contact in a bid to stem the outbreak.
This includes steering clear of public transport, pubs and restaurants, working from home and only communicating with friends and family online.
The guidance is set to remain in place “for some weeks”, the Government said.
Commuters are urged to avoid rush hour and public transport where possible (Getty Images)
Here, we outline the latest information set out regarding social distancing and self-isolation.
What does social distancing mean?
Social distancing is a series of steps that people can take to limit their chances of passing on Covid-19 – restricting the little things that we don’t realise we do every day.
Official guidance now urges everyone to avoid large gatherings, including pubs, cinemas, restaurants, bars and clubs, and work from home.
This also includes not holding large gatherings with friends and family, and substituting chatting to relatives in person for speaking online or via post.
The same goes for any GP appointments related to routine medical conditions or Covid-19 symptoms. Patients are advised to call their local practice and seek ways to get remote health help.
The measures also extend to public transport, with Britons urged to halt “non-essential” use of trains, buses, trams and the Tube and avoid rush hour wherever possible.
Is it compulsory?

The Prime Minister said in his first daily press conference on March 16 that the Government has the power to enforce social distancing, but is relying on businesses, events venues and the public following the measures voluntarily.
Anyone aged 0-69 is “advised against” social mixing, having friends or family over, and is “advised” to avoid GP practices, public transport or going into work.
However, those aged 70 or above – who are generally more susceptible to experiencing severe coronavirus symptoms because their immune systems are weaker – are “strongly advised” to follow all of the social restrictions in full.
Vulnerable members of society such as pregnant women and those with underlying health conditions such as chronic respiratory issues including asthma, or diabetes, chronic heart disease, or obesity, are also urged “strongly” to “rigorously” follow social distancing.
What if I’m unwell or have carers?
Anyone who becomes unwell is urged to call their GP and seek medical advice on a case-by-case basis, but remote treatment is strongly urged.
Those with pre-existing health conditions or the elderly who have carers are advised to contact them and say they are social distancing. Unless carers are providing essential help (washing, dressing or preparing meals), they “should not visit you during this time”, official guidance states, but patients should check with their care provider.
To ensure their mental health is in check, anyone who is self-isolating or social distancing is also urged to keep healthy with a balanced diet, get plenty of fresh air and daylight in the garden or by opening windows, and do exercise indoors.

🔥George Alagiah 'gutted' to stay away from BBC newsroom during coronavirus outbreak🔥
BBC presenter George Alagiah has said he is “absolutely gutted” but has decided to “stay away from the newsroom” amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
The newsreader, 64, was diagnosed with stage-four bowel cancer in April 2014 and continues to receive treatment.
In a tweet he said: “Absolutely gutted. After talking to colleagues and doctors I’ve decided to stay away from the newsroom.
“I’m on a few weeks cancer treatment break at the moment but, on a balance of risks, we all decided I must heed the advice for those with underlying health issues.”
His agent Mary Greenham, from Newspresenters, told the PA news agency on Monday night that he would not be working from the newsroom after consulting with his doctors and editor.
He is self-isolating, Ms Greenham confirmed.
Alagiah said: “It’s been a difficult decision. At a time like this I so wanted to play my part in the BBC newsroom, working with my colleagues to report on this unprecedented crisis – especially as so many are turning to the BBC to make sense of what can seem a frightening and confusing situation.
“After talking to my doctors and my editor we all decided that, on a balance of risks, it was probably best that I withdraw from the newsroom.”
Good Morning Britain host Susanna Reid, who is self-isolating after one of her children developed a “persistent cough”, was among the people sending well wishes to Alagiah.
She tweeted: “Huge best wishes George x”.
BBC Breakfast presenters Naga Munchetty and Louise Minchin also tweeted messages of support.
Munchetty tweeted: “Stay safe George x”, while Minchin wrote: “Take care”.

The Government has advised people classed as “vulnerable” to ensure they are “largely shielded from social contact” for around 12 weeks, or possibly longer.
This includes people over the age of 70, pregnant women and people with certain health conditions or undergoing treatment such as chemotherapy.
Alagiah underwent 17 rounds of chemotherapy to treat advanced bowel cancer in 2014 before returning to presenting duties in 2015. In January 2018, he revealed that the cancer had returned.

🔥What’s not closed in St. Louis? Blood donation centers, and they need help🔥
ST. LOUIS — Hundreds of blood drives have been canceled across the Missouri-Arkansas region and thousands have been shut down nationally due to the threat of COVID-19, the American Red Cross said on Tuesday, causing a “severe blood shortage.”Nearly 2,700 blood drives have been canceled across the U.S. due to social distancing requirements, leading to roughly 86,000 fewer blood donations across the country. Last week, the Red Cross reported they’d canceled 125 blood drives, at a loss of about 3,500 donations. Within the Missouri-Arkansas region, 56 blood drives have been canceled, resulting in an estimated loss of 1,800 blood donations, Red Cross officials said on Tuesday.Red Cross officials called the shortage “unprecedented.””The Red Cross expects the number of cancellations to continue to increase, which is causing heightened concern for blood collection organizations and hospitals across the country,” a statement from the Red Cross read. “The blood shortage could impact patients who need surgery, victims of car accidents and other emergencies, or patients suffering from cancer.”Red Cross officials said they’ve enacted new safety measures at donation centers, including taking the temperature of staff and donors before they enter, spacing out donor beds and increasing the disinfecting of surfaces.

🔥Craving sport amid Covid-19 shutdown? Amazon's Australian cricket documentary is just what you need🔥
If there is ever a bad time for eight hours of unprecedented fly-on-the-wall access about the very toughest sport to appear online, it sure as hell is not now.
If you are reading this end of the paper you are surely craving sport. You are also likely spending more time housebound than usual. And what can a sportswriter write about when there is no sport?
Enter The Test, the access-all-areas documentary about the Australian cricket team that dropped on Amazon last week.
Let’s get the central theme of this thing out there early: even if you are physically repelled by the very notion of Australian cricket, this is compelling, endearing viewing. By the end, you may even like most of them.
It is compelling in part because of the core story. We start on May 3, 2018, as Justin Langer is unveiled as head coach, charged with not just winning games but restoring Australia’s reputation and fixing a broken brand following the sandpaper scandal. Steve Smith, David Warner and the other central figures of that sorry saga are seen only giving tearful, apologetic press conferences.
(AFP/Getty Images)
Sixteen months later, and Australia — with Smith and Warner back — have retained the Ashes on English soil for the first time in 18 years. Along the way they lose in England and the UAE in 2018, host India and lose, tour India and win, and make a World Cup semi-final.
The final two episodes focus on that unforgettable Ashes series, which took in Smith at Edgbaston, Smith v Archer at Lord’s, then Stokes at Headingley before they secured the Urn.
Even once that is done, there is one last period of fascination as they celebrate hard at Old Trafford, then put in a sleepy, sloppy performance at The Oval to allow England to level the series. That leaves this a captivating tale of triumph, but the job not totally done.
It works not just because of the story but also the level of access, which is unprecedented in cricket.
Mumbai Indians did a documentary last year, and The Edge retrospectively (and brilliantly) told the story of the rise and fall of the England team of the turn of the decade. But this is an immediate drawing back of the curtain.
Cameraman Andre Mauger was embedded in the Australia camp throughout this period, filming hundreds of hours of footage from team meetings, hotel rooms, changing rooms and even players’ homes.
The documentary follows Justin Langer’s first 18 months as Aussie head coach (Getty Images)
Headingley is the most compelling passage of the lot, as we see Langer kick over a bin (which he then clears up) when Lyon drops that run out,
Tim Paine give an emotional address, then the head coach makes the whole squad watch the final hour back together the next morning. They are watching through their hands, and so are you.
The players are certainly more willing participants than most of us would be if a camera was permanently stuck under our nose at work. A strength is that it is so player-dominated; with the exception of Langer and his big-name lieutenants such as Ricky Ponting and Steve Waugh, the coaching staff are support actors. And the Cricket Australia suits who contributed so heavily to the rotten culture that preceded this era are broadly invisible.
Like the madcap BBC podcast Tailenders (which managed this month to get 2,000 people into the Palace Theatre in Manchester wearing Christmas jumpers, clutching scorebooks and singing Mark Wood’s name to a Travis song), The Test is another route into cricket for the uninitiated. There is no need to love cricket to love this, because while it is a sports story, it is rooted in the characters, the friendship and the struggle.
There are moments of real levity, with air-guitarist Mitchell Marsh a brighter star with every passing episode, and Adam Zampa and Marcus Stoinis’s bromance is a delight. Zampa is at the forefront of a group of very modern plant-eating and coffee-brewing Australian cricketers. At times it felt like the only time he was not making coffee was when he was actually bowling.
Each of these lighter times is offset by real seriousness, whether in the form of Aaron Finch’s long nights of the soul as he struggles for form, or separate trips to the Western Front and Gallipoli to get a sense of the players’ roots.
Those trips are all part of the voyage of discovery that Langer, the undoubted star of the show, tries to take his team on.
We knew he was obsessed with “Australian cricket” (do not try to count how many times he and his team say those two words), but there are surprises too: turns out he loves “A Star Is Born”. Whenever he is on screen the lines between documentary and mockumentary blur.

England batsman Alex Hales on Tuesday said he has gone into self-isolation due to fever and persistent dry cough after returning midway from the now-postponed Pakistan Super League (PSL) but is yet to get himself tested for the dreaded COVID-19. Hales’ statement comes after Pakistan Super League, which he was a part of, was postponed with the Pakistan Cricket Board saying that a foreign player showed symptoms of coronovirus.Former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raza went on tostate that the player is none other than Hales.”Like many other overseas players, I reluctantly left the Pakistan Super League early because with COVID-19 reaching global pandemic status, I felt it was more important to be with my family rather than face a period of lockdown thousands of miles from home,” Hales said in a statement after the PCB’s comment.”I returned to the UK in the early hours of Saturday morning feeling perfectly fit and healthy and with absolutely no symptoms of the virus,” he added.Hales plays for Karachi Kings in the PSL. “However, I awoke early on Sunday morning having developed a fever and followed the governments advice of self-isolation, a process I am obviously still following having developed a dry and persistent cough.”At this stage, it has not been possible to be tested although I am hopeful that might be the case later today so I can get absolute confirmation of my current health status,” he added. The PSL had entered the knockout stages and semifinal matches were due to be played on Tuesday and final on Wednesday in Lahore. The PCB had also shortened the league by four days considering the worsening coronavirus situation before finally calling it off.Fever and dry cough are among the symptoms for COVID-19, which has so far claimed more than 7,000 lives globally.Fever, dry cough and shortness of breath are some of the symptoms of the viral disease, which infected more than 170,000 people worldwide
