Inspired by @akanemnon 's recent comic featuring the Twin Runes kids with Asriel, it has become my headcanon that Asriel in general sheds his fur and he makes a mess out of the place because of that.

Notes:

-Since I already drew the dorm room for Kingdom of Hometown, I might as well use it here and modify it to make it Asriel's room. Canonically, Azzy's dorm room and Frisk's dorm room is one and the same. And of course, the room is inspired by Deltarune.

-Azzy's pose on the 1st panel is traced from another artwork because I suck at drawing, but I modified the pose for Asriel's scratching. Unfortunately, the original artist has left the internet, with their gallery purged so I can't link my inspiration. But should they return with their gallery reuploaded I can link back to the OG artist here.

-Azzy's face on the 3rd panal is basically this . Should note that I have used this asset before here.

Finally showing off my (deltarune) older Clover design! (As well as my tentative Asriel design 👀) Larger sprite and additional thoughts under the cut:

They're at college with Asriel and Chara and are majoring in chemistry. Martlet adopted them off the streets when they were pretty young and they latched onto her straight away, and the two of them live a few hours away from Hometown.

(Berdly always drags them into playing video games with him during family gatherings. They only really care about super smashing fighters and shooters though.)

Azzy can be kind of a dick now that he's free of the expectations everyone has of him in hometown and his friends enable this waaaaay too much.

I know there are some theories about what happens in Soulless Pacifist and what Chara is up to (genuinely out to kill and maybe has already killed? passive aggressive little pissbaby getting in a Sans-style passive aggressive parting shot?), but what if BOTH were true?

Chara is genuinely corrupted and dead inside, just playing along until they can kill on the Surface because that's their purpose, that's the only meaning they can get out of what they've seen and experienced, they can't connect to these people anymore

and how CAN they

Toriel looks through them

Asgore won't even say their name

They're a ghost, unanchored and adrift, unloved and unwanted, tied to a heartless higher being who plays with all its toys and breaks them and doesn't care.

So why should they?

And then

Asriel tells them how much he loves them.

Asriel keeps calling them by name, and keeps telling them how much he loves them.

And Asriel starts crying.

(They hate seeing him cry.)

Until even THIS Lost Soul, turned twisted and made malignant, starts to remember.

How he found them.

How he saved them.

Being a family…

So when Frisk calls out one last time, it SAVES two Lost SOULs simultaneously - like Sans and Papyrus, like Asgore and Toriel - and Chara and Asriel.

(Asriel SAVEs Chara AND the world without even knowing it. Through the power of being a crybaby. GOATed.)

(Not pictured: Chara, snapped back to their old self and now in an emotional tailspin of guilt and anger and other complicated emotions over what they did, lets it out in the most emotionally healthy and constructive manner possible! Tormenting their "partner" with creepy faces and creepy photos to guilt-trip them into leaving, because that always makes Chara feel better >=))
