My VERY FAVORITE THING about Good Omens fanart is how fans and artists are generating iconographies for Crowley and Aziraphale.

Amazon in its advertising has suggested the wine glass for Crowley and the teacup for Aziraphale. My fellow ineffables, followers of the true religion, have largely ignored these as potential symbols.

Instead Crowley is associated with the apple, the snake tattoo, sunglasses, and tropical plant leaves, in addition to the more traditional horns. He is always pictured in black and red with yellow eyes.

Aziraphale is associated with books, scrolls, a flaming sword abandoned, a halo, pairs of white feathered wings, and blue eyes. He is always pictured in white and gold. Often in the less stylized portraits he is depicted with a light-blue plaid.

Religious iconography built up over hundreds or even thousands of years for the saints, angels, and demons of Christianity, and it is blowing my mind to see that cultural and artistic evolution happening in a matter of months thanks to digital tools and communication.

The border made by their wings and the way it puts Crowley against white and Aziraphale against black

The intensity and tenderness of pressing someone's hand to your face and the way op captures that in the slight distortion of Aziraphale's face from the pressure of holding Crowley's hand there

The way their hair looks similar but means didferent things--Aziraphale's looks like feathers, but Crowley's has been mussed

The lighter outline on the black wings that makes them look velvety

My very favorite thing: The little touches of pink on Aziraphale's lips and cheeks even in shadow

"Now, you listen to me"

one of my favorite scenes from chapter 15 of @moonyinpisces' brilliant fic how do we turn on the light <3

(chapter 16 just dropped last night though, kicking off act 3, and it SLAPS go read it!!)

I SLOWED IT DOWN! Yes the quality is poor but because we are working with the king of micro expression, I had to try to slow it down.

SOOO here it is. With a few dot points 😉

1. Crowley has such a soft expression on in this moment. No anger, no fury, just desperate love.

2. Watch Aziraphles face! He is clearly hurt and upset but the MOMENT he locks eyes with Crowley he sorts, still sad but there is a change, a moment of realisation of what is about to happen. Something he has wanted for a long time

3. You can see him straight up and lean in towards Crowley before they kiss. He was ready for that next move.

4. Once their lips meet, his face is not one of shock or discomfort. It's the face of pure bliss! His eyebrows soften and he kisses Crowley back! (Kissing David is everything you could ever dream of ~ Michael sheen)

5. They both soften their faces into it. Both finally getting to do what they truly wanted, if only for a moment.

6. This is not a rough kiss, it may look it but you can see Crowley pulls back slightly to soften it, he wasn't expecting the kiss to be reciprocated so he had to soften his touch. He would never risk hurting Aziraphale like that, especially not with something this important.

7. Not pictured is the hand grabbing his back! Aziraphale is fighting so hard not to throw away all his worry and enjoy it. He wants to be lost in the moment but he can't be because he is being watched by the metacockblocker!

I love dramatic moments that ONLY work in queer ships bc if a man did them to a woman it would be rapey and gross but when it's two characters on an equal footing in the power dynamic it's fucking wonderful

Also I've just twigged that a hand in the hair during a kiss is not just one of my Favorite Things, it is artistic shorthand for "This character is desperately into it"

PS. I mean that these dramatic moments work in a 3-panel comic; do not actually in real life grab and sexually assault someone who has walked away from you no matter what yall's power dynamic is please

After all that Angst, I need a “Kiss and make better” moment.

Things I love about this:

The traditional romance-novel cover art trope of "laced shirt sliding off a dude's shoulder" subverted: the shirt-wearer is on the lower end of the power dynamic and the lower position in the clinch

The shape of Aziraphale's jaw

The softness under Aziraphale's chin

The shape of Crowley's jaw, chin, and lips

Crowley's expression of vulnerability

Crowley's lavish hair. It's as lavish as it needs to be to be lavish and then even more lavish on top of that.

Aziraphale's hairstyle is somehow more realistic in this painting than it is in a real person's actual hair

The highlights of light in their hair like water droplets or seed pearls

The shoes

For some reason the choice to tilt Crowley's right foot and ankle is kind of poignant to me, and I can't put my finger on why

I really want to know more about those little glass-encased torches under the window!

My favorite part of this is the way everything is drawn and painted with such detail and depth and verisimilitude except the light from the candles, which is discrete and two-dimensional and round as halos and sets off my spider-senses for "There's something religious going on in this piece of art." Especially wonderful as what's actually going on is queer sex and property damage. It never occurred to me that you could make the way light looks into a religious allusion. Every day I see something in art I didn't know you could do.
