hehe Katniss avox one shot that sucks ass
Katniss felt her body jolt back as sparks from the arena flew. Was peeta ok? Was he thrown back by the wave that had just went over the arena? Peeta, the name repeated in her name while she slowly faded into sleep, or unconscious? Could she say death? As her head and eyes got foggy so did the name but it stayed with her, stayed with her till she couldn’t remember.
As Katniss woke up the first thing she noticed was the faint smell of roses and blood and the doctors surrounding her. Was she excepting Haymitch? Or maybe peeta? Was her mother here or prim? They were both doctors, they should be here. No, a voice in her head says, no they shouldn’t be in the capitol. Was she in the capitol? She had to be, the smell of roses and blood, president snow, wouldn’t be in district twelve and neither would the capitol doctors crowding around her be either.
The dull pain in her mouth..what is it? Has she bitten her tongue? Why can she not feel her tongue? Was she put on so much morphling that she cannot feel it anymore? Or is it even still there..is it there? Filled with a new found, but dull panic she reached for her mouth only to be blocked by bandages and a doctors hand, slowly guiding her own back to her lap. She tried to talk, even if it would be muffled by the bandages but she couldn’t only weird guttural sounds and sharp pains. Was she an avox? Had they taken her tongue? Why did she feel so calm? Her tongue had been taken, she should be panicked!
The doctor which had grabbed her hand before slowly grabbed her hand like she was some skittish stray animal. He slowly pressed the needle into her skin and Katniss let him, if she fought would she loose something else? What happened to prim? Where was prim? Or Peeta? Were they dead? Were they dead because of her?
When she wakes up again she is still in the same room and the smell of blood and roses had grown. “Ah, My dear Miss Everdeen” a voice from besides her said, she moved her head slowly and she felt herself start to shake. Next to her was President snow, clean shaven and in a velvet red suit with a prim white rose in his lapel. And she had been promoted to dear Miss Everdeen now? Wow she was really in trouble huh.
He brushed a piece of hair away from her face faster then she could flinch away. She tried to ask what happened, where peeta was or finnick or even Johanna and beetee, or if prim was still alive but all that came out was guttural sounds and slurred parts of words. Snow looked at her delighted, like this was absolutely hilarious how she couldn’t speak. “You must be wondering why you can’t speak, am I right Miss Everdeen?”
She nodded, of course she wanted to know. “Well Miss Everdeen” he started, a smile still on his face, did he get another surgery? His lips look bigger then before “you do know what an avox is, am I right?” He asked and she nodded, who didn’t know what an avox was? “then I assume you can piece together what happened to you” he said. So she had become an avox, was it because she blew out the arena? He did say some districts rebelled because of her, was that another reason? Why was she questioning that, of course it was the reason!
“Not many are supposed to know this but, you set off a full on rebellion after blowing out the arena, revealed lots of undercover rebels as well Miss Everdeen” he said, his voice calm but Katniss knew he had to be seething. She just nodded, what else could she do? He smiled at her “You’ll have to learn to adjust to your lack of tongue now Miss Everdeen” He said before standing up and tucking a white rose behind her hair, where had it come from? But his thumb was near her mouth, she could bite him, should she bite him? She didn’t answer her own question before biting down on snows hand and he pulled away his thumb quickly looking at her with a slightly surprised face, she’d never seen that before.
“That’s quite rude Miss Everdeen, I’d expect that from a young child, someone way below your age” he said before walking out the room. She felt bad, like a child scolded by their father but snow wasn’t her father and she’s surprised she felt like this, whatever drug they gave her must be messing with her head. Once he left and the clicks of his shoes disappeared she was alone, how does she live like this now? With out a tongue? Would doctors help her? Where would she work? For some wealthy capitol family, if the hunger games continued would she work at the tribute center? Helping others she might’ve known from district twelve, she would’ve done that anyways as a mentor but maybe seeing Haymitch or Effie or peeta worst of all.
Something moved, a sound by the door and tray of food was there. She slowly climbed off bed and walked over to the tray, a bowl of liquid was there. She slowly kneeled down and scooped some up with the plastic spoon on the tray, putting the spoon to her mouth and holding it there too scared to try it. She slowly put her mouth around the spoon, the feeling of no tongue, or the lack of tongue she had gave her a weird feeling and swallowing it seem harder then normal. She didn’t know how useful a tongue could be till now. No more singing for her, a voiceless mockingjay was no good.

i know this all started like 11 years ago but i'm still so mad at how the hunger games movies have removed practically every trace of the avoxes that they can. i know that movies can't include everything from the books, but the avoxes are so important to the story and it does a real disservice to the movies by removing them. also, it would have added maybe a couple minutes per movie to include them the way they were in the books.
there are mentions of them here and there, and we do see lavinia briefly, but the only avox who's there in any meaningful way is pollux. and they couldn't take him out of the movie! not only is he important to include with the camera crew, he has to be there because he's the one who leads the group through the tunnels. if it were possible to cut him out of mockingjay, i think they would have.
removing so many scenes with lavinia genuinely detracted from my enjoyment of the first movie. especially witnessing her capture & carrying the guilt about it. when there are avoxes waiting on her, katniss does treat them politely, but i think it would have been so important & impactful to see her truly recognizing lavinia and her humanity and trying to communicate with her like anyone else. fixing this probably wouldn't add more than like 5 minutes to the runtime, but it would be such an improvement.
and don't even get me started with darius being removed from the movies. maybe he shows us a little less about katniss's character than lavinia would, but the mentions of him in catching fire add so much to our imagination of the hob and illustrate just how different peacekeepers were in district 12. this is also the first time this has happened to someone katniss actually knows. i think this would take maybe a minute and a half to fix? at most. really all we would need to see is darius talking to katniss in the hob, then being one of the peacekeepers getting captured when thread takes over.
obviously they kept pollux in because they literally couldn't remove him from mockingjay. i don't really have any complaints about his portrayal in the movies, which is kind of surprising given how passionate i am about him. also, the movie actually portrayed castor's death better than the book! it wasn't really in the book, basically castor was there and then he wasn't. so the movie version has a lot more impact.
also, it sucks that we didn't get to hear what happened to lavinia and darius. i always have intense second-hand embarrassment at the fact that in the book, peeta realizes pollux is an avox then immediately starts trauma dumping about seeing lavinia and darius tortured to death. if it were done as written in the movie, i might have experienced literal physical pain. but at the same time, i think it's very important that katniss finds out what happened to them. also in the books, squad 451 hears all the avoxes in the tunnels screaming as the mutts kill them. i feel like that would have been really easy to add in.
anyways we are moving on before i write an entire dissertation on pollux.
it was even worse in tbosas! the movie cut the scene where snow sees dr. gaul experimenting on and torturing avoxes. it would have been absolutely horrifying to see that translated to the screen, but it's incredibly important to snow's character development and his transformation into someone who both allows and perpetuates that cruelty. also, justice for ma plinth! i think it would have been incredible to see more of her and the way she treats people. in the book, she is so kind and caring to the avoxes working in her house. they're able to communicate with her, and she cooks food that will be easy for them to eat. since treating the avoxes as remotely human is so unusual, treating them with such love and respect is a revolutionary act, and goes to show what kind of person sejanus was raised to be. i know that this would add quite a bit to the runtime, but it probably should have been two movies anyways.
i know that side/background characters are cut from movies all the time. it happens. but even without getting a lot of lines, the avoxes are incredibly important to the story. these are people who have been enslaved, tortured, and dehumanized more than basically anyone else in panem. once characters truly see the avoxes, they're forced to confront the true brutality of the capitol and what they'll do to keep people in line. i think the movies don't truly force audiences to confront the brutality of this punishment. any rebellion is punished by literally robbing people of their voices and cutting them off from everything they've known. even if there's someone left to buy their freedom, they're physically disfigured for life--even removal of part of the tongue can have catastrophic side effects.
also, characters' perceptions of avoxes can say a lot about the kind of person they are. avoxes are the lowest class in panem, and treated with about as much agency as a piece of furniture. people aren't supposed to treat them like people. they're only supposed to talk to avoxes when giving them an order. despite this, there are certain characters who choose to show them kindness and love.
anyways i'm gonna end this here before i write a post so long it crashes tumblr but pls ask me literally anything about pollux i am in love w him <3

as someone who loves to reread books, i feel like the hunger games has some of the best rereadability
i’ve read each of the trilogy each least 5 times each, and tbosas twice, and every time i pick up something new, sometimes about panem as a whole, sometimes it’s character insights, sometimes it’s connections to the real world.
ive said it before, but suzanne such a brilliant author, and she manages to give every character such depth that makes them ALL such compelling characters
i just think it’s incredible how she can write books that fall perfectly into a ya dystopian genre and also provides such profound commentary on society and government
#the hunger games#thg#katniss everdeen#gale hawthorne#peeta mellark#finnick odair#book tumblr#the hunger games might just be my magnum opus#one day i will write down all of my many thoughts and truly there are MANY#i could write an essay on gales character#i used to be his number one hater but recently i’ve been seeing him in such a different light and i think he’s a perfect representation#of young oppressed men and how their oppression can radicalize them#also i am so obsessed with pollux’s character and i want to know everything about his life and how he became an avox his family EVERYTHING#i just want to sit down and talk with suzanne about these books for hours and hours

I have an idea for an angsty-ish everlark one shot (or even longer if something can be built off of it). Peeta could’ve seriously permanently harmed Katniss when he attacked her during their ‘reuinion’ in 13. He could’ve damaged her throat and vocal chords/muscles needed for speech so it would be impossible or difficult for her to ever speak/sing again, effectively clipping the Mockingjay’s wings. District 13 would lose its mouthpiece and even if Snow wouldn’t have planned the outcomes exactly that way, it would be quite the stroke of luck and irony for him. It would devastate Peeta completely once he recovered and is able to make more sense of his memories. But I imagine with his presence and encouragement they would both work together in 12 to heal and learn sign language to communicate. Eventually, Peeta would forgive himself for what the Capitol did to them. I just think it’d be interesting to explore a healing katniss parallel their healing relationship as they get through it together and how she would get through the rest of her life (or months if it went down the path of an injury that could be healed) and learning how to communicate differently. I just don’t have the energy myself to explore that type of fic right now and give it the attention and nuance it would deserve.
#the hunger games#katniss everdeen#peeta mellark#hijacked peeta#everlark#everlark fanfiction#katniss and peeta could also help any avoxes that may come to district 12 for a new life and to rebuild

So the new Hunger Games book. I have some thoughts.
Can't wait to see who's gonna play which characters.
Wonder what Snow will look like middle-aged.
I'm guessing the movie will cut Maysilee having a sister due to Madge being absent from the original films & if so, I wonder how that will affect the Mockingjay pin origins or if they'll completely remove the fact that it originally belonged to her.
Omg, the film could use the same reaping dress (or more likely a replica) for teen Miss Everdeen that they used for Katniss as it is said to be something that belonged to her mother during her time as a Merchant, in the original series.
Can't believe we might finally learn Katniss's parents' names lol.
Omg, do you think they'll at least hint at the baker/apocathery/hunter love triangle?
Oh (no hate to Woody Harrison but) young Haymitch is gonna be white, isn't he? Well, at least they could let him have black hair. & that wouldn't nessaryly even break movie cannon. All they'd need is to have a scene showing/implying that the stylists are gonna dye his hair after he ends up winning the games. The movie could even create an in-universe reason (outside of the Capitol citerzens just thinking it looked better). Such as with blonde people in 12, not coming from the Seam. Snow views it as the perfect subtle punishment to help Haymitch feel a loss of cultural identity by separating him from his community (now that he looks & lives more like a Merchant).
Hope the movie won't try to appeal to Hayffee/Effie stans by adding unnecessary scenes of them getting close, as if Haymitch didn't have a whole ass girlfriend while Effie would be nose deep in Capitol propaganda at that point in time.
Everyone who's saying it's gonna be weird to find Haymitch hot is weak. I was attracted to Woody Harrelson in a wig.
Don't know if this is at all realistic/accruate, but this is how I'd want the movie to end. Haymitch, back in 12. Maybe waking up in his new house after being sedated (due to him losing it after his last interview). Him desperately trying to find out where his family/GF is after discovering his old house empty (left there as a reminder), his GF's family not opening the door & everyone seemingly too nervous to speak to him. Till he eventually ends up on the Everdeen's doorstep (where Miss Everdeen is being comforted) & they explain what happened as best as they can. Then, after he returns to his new home, he gets a phone call from Snow bassically telling him that he should have behaved himself, leading him to rip the phone out of the wall before completely trashing the place. When he eventually wakes up, Hazelle is cleaning up the mess (he forgot to lock the front door). She tries to talk to him about applying alcohol (she was given by miss Everdeen) to the wounds he sustained from smashing up the place & about his girlfriend (as I could imagine the two having been friends as I can only see Haymitch's GF being from the Seam), but he tells her to get out before he starts drinking the alcohol right from the bottle, with a voice over of older Haymitch saying the line 'there's survivors, there's no winners'. Or something along those lines.
Maybe that's too fanficy, though lol.
#the hunger games#thg#mrs everdeen#mr everdeen#hazelle hawthorne#haymitch abernathy#president snow#mr mellark#maysilee donner#suzzane collins#not trying to be hateful towards effie stans or hayfee shippers#just don't get the obsession with them romantically#especially in the context of the books#like i do think they care about each other more than they'd ever admit#but in a co worker kind of way#Elizabeth banks killed it as effie#but i do find it a bit annoying when movie only fans go round acting like effie is a progressive ally in the fight for justice#like no she wasn't intentually cruel but she was just as problimatic as most of the other Capitol citerzens#with bassically no sensertiverty over any of the stuff that was happening#& sure she clearly grew to care for Katniss & Peeta (in her own way)#but was also shown to have some pretty disgusting views about certain views#like what she said about the tributes before Katniss & peeta or how she described some of the avoxes#that woman is not willingly joining a war & slumming it with the rebel side#& i think it's a disservice to Suzzane's writing to ignore the more “messy” parts of the character#movie effie is iconic but book effie is (sadly) much more realistic#meant to type has some pretty disgusting views about certain people but i don't wanna have to redo half the tags so#new hunger games book#new hunger games movie#sunrise on the reaping

Katniss avox pt 2, kinda hate it tbh but it took long to write 😭
tags: @heartforeyes
I think you wanted me to tag you? Sorry if you didn’t lmao😭
Katniss does not know how many days she’s been here, she’s kept in a white room with a bed and doctors come and check on her. Their clothing is always the same so she cannot tell if they came every day or twice or maybe even thrice. She has her mouth checked, but they always have a peacekeeper with them, she guess’s snow has told them to be wary about her bites.
Of course she doesn’t try and bite them, the peacekeepers don’t intimidate her she just has no need to bite them. They’ve given her a note book to write down responses to their questions, though they complain about how sloppy her hand writing is, she wants to say they need to take it up with President snow to get district twelve a better education system but she doubts they would take that seriously.
She’s been sedated at least three times, usually after thinking of what could’ve become of Prim, peeta, her mother, gale, his family, all of district twelve really. They say she worked herself into a panic and that it could disrupt her healing, she guesses from how much she’s tried screaming and opening her mouth. She wonders what peeta would think about this, would he console her? Yes, he would a voice in her head said, because peeta is kind and good, Prim is as well.
She’s tried to cry before, but all that’s come out is sad, pitiful animal noises. They remind her of sounds that animals she would shoot and not kill immediately make, she suppose’s that is what she is, an animal that’s been shot yet not killed. She’s seen some people try and help animals they see on the streets that are near death and in pain, ones that should be dead, that is snow but he is not doing this from the goodness of his heart by keeping her alive. He is keeping her alive so she can suffer and tear herself apart mentally and soon enough physically.
She once tried to district herself by singing, singing a beautiful ballad or maybe the hanging tree. But she could not sing, she has no tongue, she can’t sing anymore. How will she sing prim to sleep? How will she tell her stories? How will she console her if she ever gets nightmares? Is prim even alive anymore? Katniss asks herself that question everyday, what had happened to her dear prim? Sweet, lovely, and innocent prim who wanted to always help people, how was she born in panem? To a country so cruel, with rulers who could learn from her kindness.
Katniss wonders where she will work, Will she work in the sewers? Or in a capitol house? Maybe snow will keep her as an avox at the presidential mansion? Would she prefer that? Being trapped with the horrible smell of blood and roses that seemed to follow President snow wherever he goes, or would she prefer working down in the sewers of the capitol? What would she prefer? Being trapped with the smell of blood and roses or in the sewers for so many hours a day? Katniss does not know what being in the sewers is like, does she want to know what it is like?
When Katniss wakes up she is met with a loose white dress? Or a large piece of fabric with some holes, she is not cinna, she cannot tell. She puts it on and sits on her bed, and she hears walking outside the door. Then it’s opened and in walks two peacekeepers, they motion for her to stand up and she walks over. They are on either side of her as they walk down a hallway, it looks like the tribute center, she must’ve been kept in the tribute center.
They walk past a window and Katniss see’s herself, she looks like a skeleton and her hair is messy and brittle. The sky outside is bright, and people are walking around below her, they look likes ants almost. She is shoved into the elevator and almost falls before her arm is squeezed by a peacekeeper and he drags her back up. She stands in between them both and she hears quite laughs as they both look at each other, it takes her longer then she liked to realize they were laughing at her.
They push her into a car and she watches through very dark windows as the capitol buildings pass, it reminds her of the parade. Where are they taking her? Are they taking her to a sewers entrance? The presidential mansion? Or an auction where rich capitol people will bid on her like a piece of furniture? Which would she prefer? Has she asked herself that question before? She cannot remember. Soon enough they are somewhere and a peacekeeper pulls her out of the car, the presidential mansion stands tall and imposing in front of her. She is dragged through a back entrance and sees others wearing the same piece of fabric, Katniss had decided to call it that, as her.
She is forced into a kitchen and is handed a bowl of fruits, raspberries and for a second Katniss thinks they are nightlock berries but they are regular blue berries. She is instructed to take these to President for breakfast, katniss has not eaten breakfast yet, when will she be allowed to eat breakfast? She walks through the halls, like a lost child with the bowl of fruits, the raspberries and blue berries which Katniss has decided to think of as nightlock.
She likes to think that she is going to give President snow nightlock berries and he is going to die, another way of killing to add to her imaginary list in her head. She doesn’t know where the office is, nobody told her, they just assumed she’d know? Or was this some joke? Soon enough a peacekeeper is dragging her to snow’s office and there he is, sitting behind a nice desk, mahogany, Effie likes mahogany. He smiles once he sees her, his snake eyes lighting up in sick delight, his lips look bigger than the last time she’s seen him. She sets down the bowl in front of him and he stares at the fruits, he must recognize what the berries look like, or maybe he see’s the slight smile Katniss has realized she had while thinking of killing him. Though whatever he sees he must realize the resemblance of the berries sooner or later. Because his smile fades slightly before he shoo’s her out, and then she is taken out by the peacekeeper and instructed to clean.
That is what she does now, everyday, some days she is shoved and some days she is not. She prefers the days where she isn’t shoved though she cannot get rid of the thought that President snows lips seem bigger each time she sees him. Even if it’s twice in the same day, something else Katniss has grown to hate-the smell is always so strong-they seem bigger than the first time she saw him.
One day, when she is waiting for the peacekeepers to come she is not met with them coming through the door but different people, in black combat outfits and helmets with vests as well. When one removes their helmet she thinks she is dreaming because peeta is standing in front of her, and she tackles him. They fall to the floor and she grips his wrist, so that she knows he is real and that it is not her imagination, she grips so hard she feels her nails leave marks but she is worried that he will be taken again if she lets go.

I forgot to mention that I saw the trailer for the new the The Hunger Games movie when I went and saw Blue Beetle (the prequel, you know?) and it does look really good (even though at first I was unsure about it). I'm probably for sure going to see it when it comes out. Though this will be the first time that I haven't read the book first... unless I do end up reading the book between now and then.
#friends how do we feel about the 'the ballad of songbirds and snakes' novel?#because for me personally. and a lot of people i know... i honestly preferred the hunger games movies more than the books (even though you#have to love and appreciate the books. of course. because without them there would be no films)#is it the same with the prequel?#though i also know that many fans prefer the books and hate the movies: thinking the movies left out too much and that kind of thing#but yeah. since i DID prefer the movies. and think there's a good chance it might be the same way again. i'm thinking i might just watch th#movie first or maybe not even read the book at all#even though i'm usually of the mind of always reading the book. of course. and usually first#i think my reasons for preferring the movies are as follows... i really hated katniss in the books. i'm sorry. but i did. but seeing her#brought to life with the way jennifer lawrence played her really made me love her#also. people complain about some things the movies left out. and i definitely get that. to each their own#but i personally love the things the movies ADDED! that we didn't get to see since we're stuck in katniss' pov. that i think just bettered#the stories so much#and some (surely not all) of the things that were left out that people complained about i feel like aren't THAT needed?#like they didn't explain the avoxes#but i also feel like if you're smart you can clearly figure out what the capitol did to them#idk. this is just my opinion of course. anyone is free to disagree#but i say all as this as someone who isn't SUPER into the hunger games#i only read the books once. years ago. and i haven't seen the movies in a while. so i'm sure there are things i may have forgotten and migh#be getting wrong here#oh! another thing too is that i've seen people mention that they felt like suzanne collins' writing style with thg is almost script-like.#even though it's not a script of course#and that that might be another reason that i. and so many others prefer them as movies#because it was almost like she was writing the books TO be made into movies

Another thing I feel like the movies really missed was the conditions in the districts themselves. A lot of Katniss's backstory from before the Games in District 12 was just left out of the movies entirely. The fact that people regularly starved to death, the lack of medical care available (Katniss's mom was an apothecary because there weren't enough doctors in District 12), the way the reaping system worked, the working conditions. In District 11 the situation was worse, they grew all the food but were still starving. In book 2 it talks about abusive Peacekeepers (the name for the district police force) and is implied they come from the districts the careers are from. It talks about bad conditions in other districts as well, though in less specifics. We see with Effie how painfully oblivious everyone from the Capitol is to the condition of the Districts.
In the books Katniss talks about her dad dying in the coal mines, her mom falling into catatonic depression, her and Prim not having food to last the winter, being overjoyed when dandelions start sprouting because it's something she and Prim can eat. She mentions that even with a more stable source of food, Prim is 12 and would weigh "ninety pounds soaking wet." She says the same about Rue later.
With Rue, in the first games, we find out about District 11, how Rue had several siblings, all growing up in poverty. How the other districts used extensive child labor. Katniss offers her the drumstick from a bird she hunted and Rue can't believe it, she had never eaten that much at once before. And soon after Rue and Katniss started comparing experiences, their plans went wrong and Rue was killed. We already know the Games are rigged, the Game designers may have killed Rue to silence her stories of District 11 before she said anything too incriminating. That may be why President Snow was so angry when Katniss publicly acknowledged the situation in District 11.
And all the cruelty of the Districts and the true long lasting effects of the Games are hidden from the Capitol. Katniss sanitizes the stories she tells Peeta of her childhood because she knows the Capitol audience can hear. The audience sees the fighting and the bloodshed, but after the Games, they only see the pretty sparkling victors. Katniss wakes up after the Games to find all her scars, even ones from before the Games, are completely gone. The audience doesn't want to see any yucky lasting effects, they want to see the gleaming victors, pretty young things about to parade around the Districts.
We know it's supposed to be secret too, because the tributes' voices are constantly suppressed from the moment they're chosen at the reaping. The pre-Games interviews are leading question after leading question. They're coached on what to say at all public appearances. During the Games, they can't talk too much about the Districts, or risk getting killed by the deus ex machina of the arena. Katniss and Peeta's victory speeches were written for them, and straying from the script to honor Rue was a huge act of rebellion.
The Capitol citizens are kept in the dark about what really goes on in the Districts, and the rebellion is kickstarted by Katniss, and to some extent, Rue, exposing it during and after the games.
Also, I noticed the movies only briefly mention (if that) the Avoxes, who are prisoners forced into slavery in the Capitol, whose tongues are cut out so they, too, can't talk about their horrible conditions. Katniss was horrified by the Avoxes, especially because she recognized one of them, a girl who her and Gale saw running away outside of District 12 who got caught by a helicopter, who later was the Avox sent to Katniss's room before the Games. It was one of the more horrifying details to me when I read the books, and it doesn't get discussed a lot because they were pretty much left out of the movies.
The Hunger Games, Actual Teen style!
On the left, 15-year-old Josh Hutcherson.
On the right, 16-year-old Jennifer Lawrence.
Think how much creepier it would be to see them killing other kids when they look so squishy-cheeked and little.
#anyway i read these books when i was 9 and it was a major influence in my developing worldview#but yeah a lot of the problems in the districts are really downplayed in the movies#and there's a lot more focus on food and malnutrition in the books with katniss and peeta both being named after food#the central of Katniss's relationship with both peeta and rue being on sharing food#her fundamental childhood memories being of malnutrition#them being called the HUNGER games#etc#that was a really big theme#but yeah the avoxes were and still are one of the most disturbing parts of the books to me#that shit was not like YA level stuff that could have been in fucking adult horror novel and i would not have bat an eye#really i think if katniss and peeta weren't 16 and the movies were done better people would have seen the hunger games as a real dystopia#and not a YA romance story like people say and how all the series 'inspired by it' were#that shit was easily as disturbing as 1984 or fahrenheit 451 or whatever it was just slightly different in tone and had a happy(ish) ending
