Here’s my hot take: once they start fucking—because she is easily embarrassed and might take some warming up—she is going to be the hornier one. Peeta has shown remarkable restraint. She’s gonna, like, look at his eyelashes or hands or something and demand he get in the bed, and he’ll be like, “really? What did I do so I can do it again?”
Me writing everlark: nooo they wouldn’t do that
Also me, remembering Katniss’s insanely thirsty inner monologue and her absolute impulsiveness: no wait, they would do that!

You know what I'd like to see? A non-reaped AU where Katniss and Peeta's mom actually come to some understanding. I'm not saying they are ever going to be besties. Nor do I want her woobified like some of the Snow stuff after the TBOSAS movie.
But I feel like i've read too many fics where Peeta's mom is cartoonishly evil? And, yes, hitting kids is bad but I can't imagine it's that abnormal in such a violent society?
More Mrs Mellark thoughts
I would be surprised if Peeta nad his brothers were the only kids in 12 that got whipped. I don't want to normalize or rationalize it.
And it's not like Katniss and Peeta have not also used violence to get their way in the main series? The books are about violence towards children, and she's one of the only ones who the fandom seems to hate. (Like some people loooove Cato and Clove and I don't fully get that, but I support people's right to do whatever.)
I also think Peeta's dad is a big sweetie but... also seems kind of dumb. So I'm not sure how much support he is.
And three boys is objectively a lot. I have two nephews and I babysat them last week and they played a "fun" game where the little one would hurl himself bodily at the older one until the big one got annoyed and slammed him to the ground. Then the little one would laugh (isn't it great he got big bro's attention!?!) and start it over again. It made me so anxious; I think I made a good decision in not having kids.
So if I had to look after three and a business, I could see myself having a mental breakdown. (Not hitting the kids but we know Panem has terrible mental healthcare and they might be the only ones she can take her frustrations out on? She can't yell at Peacekeepers...)
But Hazelle has three boys and she deals with it, so it's not impossible. It's just hard.
IDK. I might delete this because tumblr isn't good at nuance and I don't want people coming at me saying I am defending Mrs. Mellark.
tldr; i just think it is weird that there is literally more sympathy for snow.

i agree with this. we never see gale have cute nicknames for prim or make her giggle. you know who he does do that with? posy. because she's his sister and he doesn't really need another one.
that's fine.
unpopular opinion i’ve made known many times before : gale cared for prim but he did not love her like his own family! caring for her is completely attached to her being katniss’ little sister and him caring for katniss!
this is not a vilification either. this is a completely normal way to be towards your friend’s sister. but the fandom, even the everlark portion of the fandom, has like short circuited their brains around this piece of fanon, that gale loved prim like his own child. which is just blatantly not real. the actual proof in the text provides a cordial and friendly relationship but not a familial one between gale and prim.

I’m writing the early days of Peeta and Katniss’s physical relationship and we all agree that Katniss would be like “give me more more more” and Peeta would spend like at least a little bit in “WHOA this is reality??” Modes? Or is that just me?

My favorite thing to read about in fics (and I need more) is post mockingjay Everlark finding out just _how_ obsessed they were with each other before they were reaped. And I’m not just talking about Peeta, we all know about Mr “two braids instead of one” but I imagine a shocked and grinning Peeta that looks at Katniss offhandedly mentioning random little details about him like “you always sketched during maths” and realizing she kept tabs on him just as much as he did. I LOVE

I wish we knew more about Johanna post Mockingjay too. We don’t really get anything. But I know her family is gone (in my headcanon that involved at least one sister, similar to Katniss) so I’d like her to be able to find a new found family but I don’t even really know what she is looking for. Like my headcanon is that she’s a lesbian? (So your Enobaria idea intrigues me.) But others have her ending up with Gale or Haymitch.
And some people think she goes to live with Annie, which could be nice if we knew Annie and Jo had a good relationship, like I know she was friendly with Finnick but I’m not even sure she had met Annie before they were all held hostage together (I say this only because Annie is never mentioned as someone who has mentored or is often present at the games. Four would have enough victors that not all of the would need to go.) Although I suppose just being close to the baby daddy and having been tortured together is enough of a connection. Maybe Annie could help her get over her fear of water, since that seems to be the one thing Annie isn’t freaked out by?
But she isn’t mentioned as being in 4 like Katniss’ mother is. Plus we know she likes the smell of home, so maybe she’d miss 7.
Nothing feels quite right?
Do you guys ever think about what Johanna’s life is in post Mockingjay? I’ve been thinking about that for a while because from what I remember, Suzanne doesn’t share what happens to Johanna in post Mockingjay.
For me, I think she goes back to D7 and visits Katniss and Peeta in D12. But since Enobaria survived the 75th Games, Johanna tries to open up to her. Same with her and Cressida. I wanted to share what I think happens because I want Johanna to be happy. She deserves it deeply.

yeah he was totally guilting her with that screencap of gale from the reaping that i have no idea how he got. what an asshole.
“Peeta was guilting Katniss into reciprocating his feelings the whole time !!1!!1” Katniss did not emphasize that he didn’t expect her to reciprocate whenever he expressed his feelings for her after their Games + straight up tell you that Peeta was giving her an out and the ability to be with ✨the other guy✨ for THIS to be your take

Ooh I will look it up. I have been trying to find more Everlark coded books. So far the only one recced to me is "How to End a Love Story" by Yulin Kuang. I listened to the audiobook of that this weekend on the train. I could see it. But it wasn't a perfect fit for me. Enjoyable anyways.
Tumblr media
I'm sure I'm not the first or last person to say this, but this is so Everlark coded I had to borrow it

I've never read The Hunger Games books, and I've been successfully peer-pressured into it. I've watched the movies, though.
Anyway, I am listening to the audiobooks through Libby.
And duuuuude, I didn't realize that Peeta is built like a brick shithouse. "Stocky"...? Hell yeah, pretty unique for a YA male lead

I can see why a costumer would like the tribute costumes for the "Sunrise on the Reaping" movie to be white like that, with the district's color in trim. It looks kind of pastoral and fanciful. But I'm sad that Maysilee won't get her all black sneaky outfit. She was so psyched they got black.

#i assume she named it the capitol bc of capitol hill#also the Latin of it all is v important @bunnystfrancis
exactly! we are not just the sucessors of rome but the american that existed before panem. our beautiful, classical architecture city in the mountains of panem is the new capitoline hill and capitol hill.
but usually a nation's ruling city is its capital with an a, so it's confusing. Possibly intentionally so? The Capitol is the capital city of Panem.
i know i sound like a elementary school language arts teacher. but please.
Captal with an A and Capitol with an O are two different words. (Merrian Webster article on clarification between the two.) Capitol has a very narrow meaning while capital has several different meanings and is the more commonly used word.
I don't know exactly why Collins chose to call it the Capitol with an O, but I suspect it is to make the Capitol itself sound more important than it is. This is the place where government is done. The Districts? Less important.
Also capitol with an o comes from Latin. Capitolium was the name of the temple of Jupiter at Rome on the Capitoline (see? o) hill. Thus the Capitol associates itself with Rome, the temple of the gods, and Capitol Hill in America. (Aka "The Capitol was stormed on January 6th.")
But most people are more familiar with being taught the captials of each state. "I live in New York. The captial is Albany." So I understand why you might think the capital of Panem is the Captial, but it's not. It's the Capitol.
I have seen several fics (I don't want to call anyone out) doing this. I apologize for being pedantic but you are not being pompous and self important enough.
(And now that I type this post out I bet I will find an incorrect usage in my fics, but don't do what I do. Do as I say. /old lady)
