Reports are coming in of a midair collision over Reagan national airport in Washington DC between a D60 Pavehawk military helicopter and an American Airlines flight inbound from wichita. Both aircraft have crashed into the Potomac river. It is being said that the American flight was carrying 64 passengers and crew, and that the D60 was carrying 3 service members. As of now, all are believed deceased. This is just days after Donald trump fired the heads of staff at TSA, and disbanded the Aviation Security Advisory Committee, or ASAC. It is because of the defunding of critical government services like this by trump that more accidents like this will continue to happen. My heart is with the families of all who are likely dead, and I am both mournful and fascinated to see what the subsequent investigation reveals.

The accident was witnessed by Mrs. Vaniman and thousands of spectators who lined the shore. None aboard the giant airship survived to tell how it was torn to shreds and junk in an instant.

Regarding the disaster in DC, id like to kindly suggest that the “free thinkers” on tik tok currently offering their unsolicited two cent conspiracy theories shut the FUCK up. Jesus Christ this country is so fucking cooked. The bodies of the dead haven’t even floated to the surface of the Potomac yet and your instinctual response is to posit some fucking Neanderthal drivel theory about how it was an inside job? The families of nearly 70 dead people are flooding call centers and learning of the death of their brother, wife, friend, son, etc, and your response is to fucking spew Q-anon sewage out of your rotten mouth? No wonder trump fucking won. Truly and unequivocally Embarrassing. Fucking hell.

Since Bandcamp Friday is starting up again tomorrow, I thought I'd start a recommendations thread for bands and artists who have their music available for purchase through the service.
Charming Disaster - goth folk rock that sounds like what you'd get if Gomez and Morticia Addams had started a band instead of a family.
Aviators - Synthpop inspired by video games and genre fiction.
The Blasting Company - the band responsible for the soundtrack to Over the Garden Wall. Yes, they do other things too!
Jesse Dangerously - lyrically dense queer nerdcore rap from one of the pioneers of the genre.
Big Giant Circles - upbeat chiptunes from and inspired by video games. If you're a fan of LoadingReadyRun, you've heard BGC before.
Reblog and add some of your favorites!

does anybody else think about how there was a horrible passenger plane crash in New York City on Nov 12 2001 but it's largely forgotten by history because 9/11 had happened just a month prior

Is it part of my Autism Package™ that I really like post-mortems? Like, for large events, I want to break down and talk over the good, the bad and the ugly, and until I've done so, I won't feel complete in the experience.
Perhaps for similar reasons, I really like videos and podcasts about disasters. Air disasters, engineering failures, nuclear contamination events, scams and swindles. If you want to sit me down for an hour and talk about a situation and what the points of failure were that led to it, I will be happy as a pig in shit.
It isn't necessarily that such things are a special interest, it's the type of information that really makes me happy. The best air disaster podcasts take an eye to the findings and the 'how was aviation changed for the better after this?', and like. I want the same for events in my real life. I want conventions to be improved year on year based on observations and feedback and collected knowledge about points of failure. I want The Big Work Events to improve and to talk about where the pain points are.
Sometimes people see me as a negative person for really wanting to chew on things like that, though.

Trump administration fires hundreds of air traffic controllers | FOX 13 Seattle
The Trump White House is firing hundreds of air traffic controllers at the FAA. The moves comes as there is a shortage of air traffic controllers, and after a deadly collision that claimed the lives of 67 people in Washington, D.C.
P.S. Wow! Interesting... It is better to stay away from American airspace...
