I am once again linking to my own Ao3 for fic about my own headcanons: Of Death and Wrigglers by AutumnAgain

How in Paradox space did the Homestuck trolls survive long enough to pupate?  Up to forty-six infants were deposited, on meteors, into craters with no shelter or plan, and at least 33 of them still managed to end up with signs, implying that they somehow made it to the Brooding Caverns for their trials.

I guess on Beforus, rescuing an abandoned grub and handing it over to the Jades before sunrise would be common courtesy, but on Alternia?  The Handmaid must have worked overtime to keep all those wrigglers from burning to death.

I guess it’s possible that one or both Heiresses landed in the ocean, where the sun wouldn’t reach, and got their signs directly from Gl’bgolyb (they do still appear to have fins in the one picture of the trolls as grubs).  I kind of feel like Terezi landed in the forest, picked out her own sign with her latent Seer abilities, and spent her wrigglerhood hiding out in caves and stuff before finding her mom’s egg and building her hive.  Like, there’s no way the egg could have walked over and selected her.  She’s an egg.  If anyone could survive a childhood like that, it’s Terezi.

Some of them might have been rescued by sympathetic trolls like Bronya, pulling the “it’s not technically illegal to bring random grubs found abandoned in the wilderness into the brooding caverns” card.

Still, I feel like a decent number of them were just physically dropped off by Damara herself, just appearing out of nowhere, dumping a pile of grubs on the floor, and peaceing out while any Jades in the area stare in horror and fear.

winged eyeliner: write a hundred word letter to your twelve year old self.This is longer than 100 words, but younger me deserves it.

Dear Twelve Year old Self,

Oh, my precious girl. You’re just now beginning to understand how cruel the world can be, and how little the universe listens to your particular collection of dust. You’re moving on from hopes and dreams into survival mode, and you’re going to live there for a long time to come. I want to say that it will be easy, but that would be a lie and we’ve never been a fan of liars.

This journey will sometimes hurt you in ways a person never deserves, and it is utterly, bitterly unfair. I wish I could make it gentler for you. Instead, I offer this:

My dear, try to remember to love yourself. You’re so desperate to give away that wreckage we call a heart that you will sacrifice yourself to keep the person holding it happy. It’s not fair to you, and it makes it hurt all the more when you have to pick up the fragments and tape it together one more time. Without self love you’ll keep taping and taping until you’ve forgotten what the original shape was, and at times you’ll wonder if it’s even worth doing at all.

There will be a time when you’re convinced it’s not. On that day, lock the balcony and don’t look at the bridge. Hold out, hold out, hold out. Your nightmares will not win.

Always remember that you survive. On the nights your heart feels safer in a box, or your head is screaming, or your body is broken, you survive. Resilience is your greatest asset, even if it feels like an absolute curse. Always remember there is beauty to live for. It comes in blips and whispers, but it’s there, even if you sometimes forget how to see it. Always remember there is love in the world. There are people who love you, even if you often feel as though you don’t deserve it.

Try to remember you deserve it. And when you can’t, think to the future.

Because, my god, you will do so many amazing things! You’ll see the world, and the wonders man has built upon it. You’ll challenge yourself mentally and physically and surpass goals you never thought you could reach. You’ll live past twenty five. You’ll conquer addictions that steal your friends away. You’ll earn a very shiny piece of paper that opens doors to dreams you thought impossible.

You’ll see the growth of your family. And somewhere along the line, a little girl will be born that will look at you as though all the light in existence shines from your eyes.

That last one is so, so cool.

So, hold out my sweet little thing. Hold out for the world that will crush you and then rebuild you from stronger stuff than you can fathom. Ours is not an easy life, but it is a worthwhile one.

I think there should be more comic books/fanfics of comic books that take the dates on everything at face value.  Yes Billy Batson is 10.  Yes he’s been a superhero since 1940.  Don’t worry about it.  Does Teddy Altman’s age make any sense given when his father died?  No?  Don’t worry about it.  Is Robin actually younger than he was a few years ago?  Maybe!  Things happen, you know how it is.  Sharon Carter is like 30 and her sister fought in WWII.  No there’s not that big an age gap why do you ask?  This normal civilian teenager can remember the Kennedy Assassination, okay?  It’s fine!  Time is broken and everyone knows it but it’s not really hurting anyone so whatever.

Niche character interaction that I want now: Spiderverse!Miguel O'Hara and Comics!Earth-617!Gwen Stacy. He would hate everything about her so so much but they would just keep running into each other in random universes. Sometimes she randomly shows up in his office and they get into heated debates about free will. He tries to avoid Spider-Gwens for fear that she'll turn up and call dibs. Half the spiders who've met them both think they're divorced. Venom is there.

I just read that post you linked to re: the differences in Gendry's characterization in the show vs the books and I was surprised you didn't mention that the reason for a lot of the changes is because in the show he's actually an amalgamation of Gendry and Edric Storm. Thus the need for him to sleep with Melisandre and other tonal changes?

Well, you shouldn’t be surprised seeing as I curb what I say significantly in these type of things. I’m a very loquacious person and have a tendency to be overly verbose. As a result, I leave out so much that I could say.

And it wasn’t really important that Gendry was getting Edric’s storyline because that didn’t mean that his character had to change, merely the path his character took. Instead, D&D changed his character significantly (read: made him unrecognizable.) 

But more importantly, no. No, no, no, no!It is not because Gendry took Edric’s storyline that he needed to sleep with Melisandre, it’s that D&D like to use any chance they get to show off Carice van Houten’s body.

Please, direct me towards the scene in the books where the readers watch as Edric sleeps with Melisandre. You can’t? Probably because it’s a show only scene and onlyincluded to add more female nudity.

There was no need for Gendry to sleep with Melisandre because the shoddy explantation why in the show made no sense. I mean he still ended up screaming and terrified with his blood pumping like crazy. That Mel bullshit about slaughtering lambs was so inapplicable. Yes, lambs can be distracted while a knife takes them from out of sight. No, a boy will not fail to realize you are placing leeches on his penis just because you seduce him first. 

So really, none of it was necessary- no the creepy body shots while Gendry screams, not the seduction, and not the combination of Gendry and Edric Storm.

Just no.
