Sharing this because it’s very accurate. I picked him up as very autism coded while watching aos, and this post alone proves it. It’s not even everything too! There’s more!
Fitz autism checklist
[jemma post here]
okay look Fitz is super autistic so here is a very long post setting out some common autistic traits (as defined by autistic people) with multiple examples of how fitz shows those traits in the show, going up through season 2 cause thats when i first compiled this checklist
Fitz stims, is sensory defensive, struggles with ‘appropriate’ communication both verbal and nonverbal, has atypical body language, is dependent on routines and consistency, shows surprisingly black&white morality for such a morally grey agency, is detail and pattern oriented, and has at least one strong special interest.
(He fulfills the awkward savant scientist stereotype of autism while also fulfilling most/all criteria set forth by actual autistic people, overtly and repeatedly in canon. SO overtly and repeatedly that I had to be picky with the examples I chose because there were just too damn many and they were crashing my browser.)

OKAY IM CAVING A LITTLE BIT!!! From one obsessor to another..... I am asking for the biggest info dump on AoS possible w\out any major spoilers 🙏
OH BOY!!!!
Tumblr media
I love you for this thank you so much 🙏
Putting this under a read more because it's long.
Okay SO the official plot of Agents of SHIELD is as follows: The worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division) employs an elite team of agents who investigate strange occurrences around the globe and beyond. Its members -- each of whom brings a specialty to the group -- work to protect those who cannot protect themselves from extraordinary and inconceivable threats.
(Totally didn't copy and paste that from google.)
The first season takes place in 2013, very soon after the events of the first Avengers film. Over the course of the first episode, we're introduced to our main cast of characters.
(There's more main characters introduced in later seasons, but this is just the season 1 cast.)
(Also it's important to note that everyone in this show is allergic to first names, and most characters just go by their last name.)
Tumblr media
PHIL COULSON
A very high ranking member of SHIELD, Coulson has been tasked with putting together a team of specialists to travel the world, responding to threats before they become Avengers level bad. He's the leader of the team, and was first introduced in Iron Man 1. He was a reoccurring character in the first couple MCU movies, before being killed in The Avengers. Except surprise! He's not actually dead! The official story is that he was resuscitated shortly after his death, but you slowly start to realize that something isn't quite right... Figuring out what really happened is one of the main plot lines of season 1.
Tumblr media
MELINDA MAY
She's the pilot for their plane (aka the Bus). When Coulson recruited her to the team, she was working behind a desk at SHIELD, but before that she was a field agent. Some mysterious past event traumatized her so badly that she left it all behind, but over the course of season 1 (and beyond) she slowly starts to heal and reenter the field.
Tumblr media
GRANT WARD
He's recruited to the team as the specialist, aka the person who does all of the cool spy stuff (espionage, infiltration, combat, etc. May was a specialist before she left the field.) He's grumpy and more than a bit of an asshole, but he has a surprising amount of depth and nuance to him. I actually think he's a pretty cool character.
Tumblr media
JEMMA SIMMONS AND LEO FITZ
Two halves of a whole, to the point where everyone just calls them FitzSimmons and refers to them as if they were one person. They're the scientists of the team. Fitz is an engineer, and Simmons is a biologist/chemist. They both incredibly smart and incredibly autistic. I love them dearly. Unfortunately they are European 💔 (Br*tish and Scottish respectively.)
And finally,
Tumblr media
SKYE
The only member who was not already a part of SHIELD before being recruited to the team. Skye is a genius level hacker who is part of an activist group known for releasing government secrets for the good of the public. She's caught by the team in episode 1 and brought in for questioning, except surprise! They only caught her because she let herself get caught. She even knows more than they do, which kicks off the main plot of season 1. Her entire backstory is a big unknown, especially to her. She was left in front of an orphanage as a baby, and is trying to figure out where she came from. It's a major plot point in the first 2 seasons.
This show is legitimately so good, and you don't really need to know anything about the mainline MCU to follow along.
It's about the found family! It's about the love changing everything and nothing at the same time! It's about the unluckiest bastards in the multiverse!

Still in her vigilante days, Daisy, Robbie, and Shield have a particularly hard-hitting run-in with the Watchdogs that leaves Daisy injured and reeling. With her guilt and grief still looming tall overhead and her physical and mental health both in a downward spiral, unsteadying plane turbulence does a hell of a lot more damage than it should, and Daisy is forced to wrestle with whether or not she's willing to let a little bit of love in.
[EDIT: archive-locking this bc of the eln msk shit :( ]
this one is great too:

OR It’s been a week since they defeated Hive, and even longer since Daisy was freed of Hive’s sway. There is an all-consuming thought that haunts her every second, in tandem with her suffocating guilt, an ever-present hand around her throat always ready to close: she is a danger to the people she loves. Lincoln, having survived the Quinjet’s explosion, tries his best to pull her out of her own head and out of her isolation. Jemma just wants her best friend back.

I once wrote this AoS fanfic where Fitz has what I call a bad night of anxiety, and I based it on my own experiences.
What I didn't realise at the time was that I am autistic and I was basically describing a meltdown. ✌️

what character do you identify most with?
Hm, there are quite a few. I always like to think about Leo Fitz from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., because I watched the show at an important time in my life, during which I figured out I'm autistic and suffered from anxiety, so I really needed the fandom and the fictional escape. I headcanon Fitz as autistic and relate to him a lot when it comes to his family history and character traits. He's just so dear to me. :)
Tumblr media
For some reason, I usually identify more with male characters than with female characters. And the characters I identify with are never "officially" stated to be autistic. But they have things in common; there's definitely a pattern. Some more fictional characters I identify with: Artemis Fowl, Zuko, Matt Murdock, Loki, Tommy Kinard, TK Strand, Tim Bradford, ... (You can play a game and see if you find the pattern xD)

hey!! can you talk more about fitz's potentially autistic traits and how they show themselves?? just curious to hear your thoughts!!
1) He has said various times that he needs space because he gets frustrated at a problem. he also at various points mentioned he has sensory overload when hes under pressure.
2) the mumble and jumble of words during said sensory overloads
3) he has a special interest in monkeys as well as physics.
4) he fidgets with things when hes under pressure, it could be playing with a pen, tapping on the table whatever
5) the walking back and forth when hes thinking is definitely stimming.
i know many people have the headcanon that fitz is autistic but here is a few observations that backs up the point

so rambly but trip's smile when fitz answers his box by high-fiving it... trip noticing fitz is vaguely hostile to him which is because he doesn't like change and feels like trip is stealing simmons from him and trip was So on a mission to winning his trust and getting fitz to like him like. that smile is so happy and satisfactory!

*grabby hands at autistic fitz and simmons headcanons*
I wrote these out last night and though I posted them but it’s saying I didn’t and that everything got deleted so here is take two
Fitz was professionally diagnosed pretty young, Simmons wasn’t professionally diagnosed until the the process of joining shield, but at that point it was just a formality
Sometimes their sensory needs line up
Like they both need noise canceling headphones for certain situations
Sometimes their sensory needs are the complete opposite
For example, Simmons loves the feel of cotton balls and enjoys their texture, Fitz refuses to touch a cotton ball. If someone asks him to hand one over, he will use something like his sleeve or tweezers or whatever so he doesn’t have to touch them with his bare hands
Same with paint, Simmons would be chill with finger painting but Fitz wouldn’t be able to do it
Typing this out I’m realizing that Simmons would probably like pottery, especially reclaiming clay
They both have a special interest in their chosen scientific field
Fitz’s first special interest he ever had is monkeys, which started when he was very young
He also has loved legos from a really young age and continues to build and collect them, his room is full of legos he is displaying that he made
They both have weighted items, Simmons has a weighted blanket and Fitz has a weighted stuffed animal (a monkey) and a weighted lap pad and he switches between the two depending on what he is doing
Simmons likes squishy fidget toys, Fitz likes clicky fidget toys
They have picked up on each other’s excited shims and now have some of each other’s so they’ll stim similarly when excited sometimes
I’m sure I have more in forgetting and feel free to add on! However I am only on season three so no spoilers please
