Unconventional Tips for Navigating Life as an Autistic Adult 🎯
Design Your Environment: Autistic people often have sensory sensitivities, so create a home that caters to your unique needs. Love the color blue? Paint your walls a soothing azure. Need silence? Invest in soundproofing or noise-cancelling headphones.
2. Use Technology to Your Advantage: There are apps for everything these days. From mood tracking to reminder apps, there's something out there to make daily living a bit easier. Explore and find what works for you!
3. Develop Your Own Self-Care Routine: Forget what the magazines say. If your idea of self-care is organizing your bookshelf by color or re-watching your favorite Sci-Fi series for the 10th time, go for it!
4. Communicate Your Way: Not all communication has to be verbal. If you prefer texting to talking, that's perfectly okay. Find comfort in written words? Carry a notebook and write your thoughts out when it's hard to articulate them verbally.
5. Find your 'Tribe': Your tribe doesn’t necessarily need to be made up of people with the same experiences as you. But it does need to be a space where your quirks, passions, and unique way of seeing the world is celebrated.
6. Embrace Your Stims: Stimming, repetitive behaviors that self-soothe or express emotion, is a natural part of being autistic. Find safe, socially acceptable stims that you enjoy and let them help you manage sensory overload or anxiety.
7. Play the "If I Were NT" (Neurotypical) Game: When you're feeling out of sync with the rest of the world, remind yourself of the unique perspectives and skills that your neurodivergence brings.
Remember, these are just suggestions. Everyone's autism experience is unique. Keep exploring, learning, and growing in your own way!

I've noticed that I mask almost constantly and it causes some extreme burnout problems so I've been working on paying attention when I mask. Anyone have tips of any kind? . I'd like to stop masking. Yesterday some stressful things happened and I had a meltdown and I'm not sure if its because I'm overwhelming myself by paying attention to how I feel and the environment I'm around or if that situation was just too stressful for me. #art #artistsoninstagram #autisticartist #autisticadult #artist #fantasy #scifyart #comic #webtoon #webcomic #wolf #werewolf #adhd #autismawareness #autism #authorsofinstagram #autismacceptance #adhdawareness #adhdsupport #adhdtips #autismtips #ptsd #ptsdawareness #trans #transman #autistic #autistictranspride #autisticmemes https://www.instagram.com/p/CPPG64FgO_z/?utm_medium=tumblr

A study done in Australia found that 42% of teens and adults on the Autism Spectrum do not feel comfortable leaving their own home because they often feel others treat them negatively.
Not only is this heartbreaking for the affected individuals, it also leads to further misunderstanding and stigma about autism by the general public.
Children with autism like to play with their peers, and largely benefit from being included in things like play dates and sports teams.

Sensory problems in Autism
Some children become overwhelmed with senses, this causes a change in behavior and educators struggle to work with the children when they are overstimulated.
Causes:
- too much light or colors in the classroom
- loud noises or too much movement in the classroom
- some food textures
- the teacher wearing too much perfume
- or the classroom is too cold/hot
However, some children have muted senses, so they seek ways to satisfy those senses. They will, thus, act in ways that can hurt them (especially the younger generation who cannot foresee danger).
Behavior examples:
- Eating modelling clay
- Hit or bite themselves
-Run against walls
-Pulling out their hair
The best way to fulfill these sensory needs is to dress them with a weighted vest, have a rocking chair or a gym ball on which they can bounce, or to have furniture with a rough material on which they can sit.
