okay, so basically, i remembered that tumblr is famous for its love of sherlock holmes. and guess what i just happen to love so much (two drawings in one!)

right, so this isnt BBC sherlock, this is Sherlock&Co, my favourite podcast of all time. S&Co is a fictional true crime podcast in which you follow Dr John Watson, Sherlock Holmes, their dog Archie and this iterations version of Mrs Hudson, Mariana Ametxazurra. Genuinely one of the funniest and most bizarre pieces of media I have ever and will ever know.

quick personal update -- i've been in chinaaaa for the past few weeks! plus a few days of layover in tokyo, so i got to visit japan for the first time! good experiences good food all around \(^_^)/

Just wanted to mention that I won an award at work today! It was an award for employees and I received it as a member of a team, but also for my own work. We got an e-mail about it a month ago, and I was so surprised that I was sure it had to be a mistake, but I'm very happy to say that it wasn't.

(Though as lovely as this award is, nothing has meant more than talking to one of my clients last week and having her say to me that I seem to be such a happy, warm person and that whenever she sees me, I am smiling and that she felt a sense of "lightness" inside after our chat. I'll take that over every award in the world any day of the week...)

I would like to say that as an autistic person, talking directly to people is not a default behavior for me, and this doesn’t just apply to facing people or making eye contact. Both in person and online, I often talk to myself where other people can hear and sometimes that will involve commenting on things that I disagree with.

Yes, I do enjoy conversations sometimes, I do enjoy when others chime in, but it is still very draining and I am only going to do it when I have both the words and the energy with which to do so. It took me over a decade of being in fandom before I sort-of-maybe learned how to initiate conversation in an indirect manner, and another ten years before I got to a point where I could do it directly, and it’s still not easy. It will never be a default for me.

Acting like it’s toxic, rude, cowardly, or slimy for someone to not follow neurotypical rules of communication that we never agreed to is fucked up.

I will own the title of being rude because it comes with the territory of being autistic and not knowing where that line falls—and because if I’m not giving myself the space to be “rude,” it results in me backing myself into a corner where my voice goes unheard by anyone.

But not everyone is going to communicate in a way that you think is appropriate, and people need to remember that. Even among the neurodivergent community, there’s many different ways of communicating and we are not all going to do it in the same way. No, I don’t think this will change people’s behavior or opinions, but I still think it’s fucked up to act like it’s toxic for someone to be airing out their thoughts on their own blog without making it an upfront dialogue.
