What do you think you add? Do you think you make a poignant post better when after scrolling down through it we see someone saying it's "official"?

I'm choosing to interpret this ask as a genuine question (albeit one that's been worded a bit rudely) instead of a hate anon, because I wouldn't want to tarnish people's dashboards with hate anons.

Now, to answer your genuine question... The "Discworld Heritage Post" tagline I add to the end of posts has as much validity as I have authority to bestow it: none. Do I think my tagline makes posts better? Of course not! And I certainly don't think I make them official, (and neither my url or my pinned post claim that I do so).

I don't know what reasons other people had to start their own Heritage Posts blogs for other fandoms, but I will gladly tell you mine: I got into Discworld. I discovered the Discworld fandom in Tumblr. And, one day, while scrolling down some Discworld related tags, the idea just popped into my head. After checking that there wasn't a Discworld Heritage Posts blog already, I decided to make one.

I personally follow a few Heritage Posts blogs, and my reason to do so is probably the same as to why many people follow this blog: I wanted to see that kind of content. Tracking tags and being up to date on the most popular posts of a fandom is doable, but doing so for the dozens upon dozens of media I'm into is impossible, so I like to follow some Heritage Posts blogs to get some of those posts directly into my dashboard (it's also worth mentioning that sometimes, some iconic posts are made when people comment stuff on them, and those don't appear in the search tags, so following blogs that post about a certain fandom is the best way to come across some of those collaborative posts, because otherwise you'd rarely get to see them). So yes, I created a blog that, had it already existed, I would have liked to follow. Also, while other blogs with this gimmick usually limit themselves to reblogging, let's call them the "greatest hits", I've said since the beginning that I didn't care about how many notes something had. Be it cool art or a funny or insightful post, if I like it, I send it to my drafts.

However, none of those reasons are the main reason why I made this blog. The main reason is that I did it for myself. After exhausting all the content that showed up in the Popular Posts tab, I couldn't help but think of all the gold and treasure that wasn't there, buried and hidden due to the way Tumblr's search engine works. If you're familiar with the Discworld concept of "lies-to-children", that's what the "top posts of all time" is in Tumblr. A 20k post from 2016 will not be there, but a six month old post with 400 notes will show up. Surely there had been amazing Discworld posts and art posted in 2015 and 2013, but I wasn't going to find most of them unless I expressly went looking for them. And this blog was the perfect excuse to do so. As of replying to this ask, there's nearly 600 posts sitting in my drafts, and if I didn't have this blog I would have never discovered 90% of them. And those are the ones I've seen. I still have dozens of places I haven't searched.

I know that if I reblog a month old post with over 2k notes, a lot of people in the fandom will have already seen it. However, a 2k notes post from 2014, or a drawing with 40 notes from 2012 is something that is less likely to have hit people's dashes recently, or at all. When you come across the "Discworld Heritage Post" tagline in a post, please don't picture me as an uppity monarch performing the Tumblr equivalent of a knighting ceremony, or a stuffy museum curator deigning a piece worthy of being included in an exhibition. Picture me as a kid enthusiastically jumping and flailing my arms around while yelling "holy shit guys check out what I just found!!", because that's how I feel running this blog.

Ultimately, whether one of my posts does better or worse is indifferent to me, because they aren't my posts, or memes, or drawings. I'm just the intermediary. That being said, of course it's not indifferent to me, because more engagement means that was a post many people hadn't seen before, or had forgotten about, and one of my goals was to run a blog that would allow people to find those hidden or long forgotten gems.

When all is said and done, Heritage Post blogs are just another one of Tumblr's gimmicks. If we're not your cup of tea, you're free to ignore or block us. If you want to reblog something and don't want the tagline, you can reblog it directly from OP (or from another reblog if OP has deactivated their account).

i have said it once i have said it a thousand times there is no greater hell for me than experiencing bad ux design.

partly because autism and i will cry if something is too confusing or doesnt work how its supposed to and partly because i did ux design for a job a few years although at a very basic level and that lets me give myself the false belief that i have any authority here

but this is seriously on my mind a lot like if i was better at writing and / or into journalism? trust that i would have already published a more refined version of this post on medium or something. unfortunately i will be addressing you today from the humble uncapitalised unpunctuated tumblr post.

anyways i just like to complain so, here are some things i hate about websites (and some badly formatted pdfs) featuring varying levels of explanation

A SECTION FOR LONG ANSWER RESPONSE BUT EVERY LINE IS A SEPARATE FIELD AND ALSO YOU CAN'T DELETE YOUR TEXT

idk if i can explain this in a way that justifies the horrors. imagine you are trying to apply for scholarships via a fillable pdf and you must answer a prompt with a paragraph length response. but alas, upon reaching the end of the line, you can no longer type. hitting return does nothing to advance to the next line. oh well, maybe try again, select what you have and delete it. but alas again! hitting delete does nothing to delete your text. fortunately you discover that you can still copy and paste, even if it pasts a row above the one you had selected. well, it is what it is, and with a burst of resolve you type out your whole paragraph in google docs, and painstakingly copy and paste excerpts whose length is dictated only by trial and error due to different font sizes. you definitely did not cry for three hours over this ordeal

WEBSITE MAIN PAGE THAT'S JUST A LOT OF BUTTONS

my lovely university's student services website which is used for silly little things like paying tuition and selecting courses. it has lots of helpful webpages and helpful redirects / shortcuts to helpful external webpages. lots of them! around a hundred if you count. how is it arranged? how does navigation work? well, each and every one of them is a small square button. and it's all just arranged in one massive grid. hundreds of them. not in any particular order.

DROP DOWN MENUS ON A PDF THAT IS MEANT TO BE PRINTED

let me paint you a picture. a form that is printed and given to all students in the school for them to fill out. a field where something must be rated on a numerical scale from one to five. every student receives a form that has the number five already printed in that field. why? why, you ask, asks everyone unfortunate enough to be tasked with filling this form. well, one trailblazer who did it digitally via fillable pdf has discovered the elusive solution to this mystery. it was supposed to be a dropdown menu. a dropdown menu that has been flattened and killed like a fly in a papercopier.

A JOB APPLICATION THAT ASKS TOO MUCH INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENCE

idk if it's even allowed to ask that but they did. and in the goofiest way possible. it asks 'have you ever used a website or social media. enter the url here' . there is only one field and it is required to proceed. oh man, i'll have to think really hard about which website (out of all the websites i have used in my life) i should respond with...!

A FORM DISGUISED AS A CHATBOT

i am very passionate about this one. i think it is evil. i think disguising forms as chatbots is useless and inefficient. i don't see much appeal in an illusion, a poor mimicry of human-to-human customer service, for the sake of a marginal amount of vague approximations of 'social connections' and 'friendliness' and 'approachability'. at the very least, it's not worth the sacrifice of usability. it is conversational, and that tricks you (including less digitally literate older people, the kind who type please and thank you into their google searches) into thinking you should respond conversationally. what if it says

"hi! my name is linda and i am your virtual assistant! do you have a postal code you can provide"

and the user replies

"hi linda! thanks so much! i do have a postal code, I just have to double check that I have the right one, could you hold on a minute?"

and the chatbot is expecting something more along the lines of "A9A 9A9". i should also mention at this point that i am not at all educated on how chatbots work and for all i know i am dead wrong and i am tilting at windmills. in which case i probably deserve to be shamed but also please be nice to me please don't be mean thank you

AN INFAMOUSLY INTRUSIVE PERSONALITY TEST THAT HAS A NEW FEATURE (CONFUSING IMAGES)

okay so certain well known fast food company recruitment process includes a 'personality test' that is more like a job interview because it asks you questions that often have wildly obvious correct and incorrect answers (despite its disguise as a 'there are no right and wrong answers here' type of personality quiz). this has been criticised for having questions about things like if you would choose to cheat on a test , if you would defend the company against your friends discussing 'negative and unfair press', if you would yell at your neighbour, if you would break the dress code. the criticism comes from it being unrealistic and silly, but it also ties into how many neurodivergent people struggle with honesty vs. the 'right answer' in job interviews.

now, that's bad enough, but someone decided it needed some visual aids to help explain the scenarios depicted - granted, that's a nice idea, but not executed super well. for one thing, the computer generated mascots who live in a futuristic science fiction world with the brand logo all over everything is not the most appealing thing to think about. for another, i found that sometimes the scenarios just didn't match up or make sense with the questions, and made me feel incompetent at reading what was going on in the scene. which is very stressful and not super fun.

RACIAL DEMOGRAPHIC QUESTIONS ON JOB APPLICATION

yes i understand that collecting statistics on prospective job seekers can be useful. yes i acknowledge that most forms with these questions are nice and allow multiple checkboxes to be ticked. but in this day and age i keep finding dropdown menus or mutually exclusive radio buttons to indicate race. that's right, you can only choose one option. which is awkward for some people. like me for example. at least sometimes i am allowed to choose the option of 'other' :)

Addressing the Wattpad.

Hi all.

We have privately been handling a situation for the last 5+ months. We have tried to keep it behind the scenes as much as we could, but unfortunately it can no longer stay that way.

As many of you know, last night we were made aware by @time-for-a-lullaby of a Wattpad account reposting our original works. We were understandably heartbroken by this. It was the work we’ve dedicated the last two and a half years to, the work that had brought the two of us together originally, and it’s things that we wrote from a very personal place. Some things were therapeutic, some things were inspired by events in our own lives, but most of all, they came from US, and we never gave permission for it to be posted anywhere except our blog by us.

In the immediate aftermath of seeing this, we recognized the user's work and username from multiple accounts we have dealt with since early this summer. In late May/early June, we blocked an account for being a minor. Then, within a day, a nearly identical URL followed us. It was obviously the same user given the follows and URL. We blocked, and this process repeated itself multiple times. We also posted frequent reminders about our policy on being 18+ only. After several weeks of back and forth, we privately reached out and asked them to please stop, and any further action would spur a report to Tumblr for unwanted harassment. They blocked us both and, given the lack of any familiar looking URLs, we thought that was the end of it.

But once we saw the username last night, we recognized the user instantly. We then contacted the other blog with this information and both moved through the proper channels to get the works taken down via copyright claims. Fortunately (or unfortunately depending on how you look at it), the account deleted the plagiarized works from us and another writer before Wattpad could intervene. We don't believe it is a coincidence that immediately after the stories (5 of them, to be exact) were deleted, that a variation of the familiar URL tried to follow us, mere minutes later.

We privately reached out this evening to the user on Wattpad to try to get some clarity as to why this happened. Before we could discuss things clearly, and after repeatedly attempting to explain to the individual that we were indeed involved in this, and no, they did not apologize to me already like they claimed, they blocked us and ended the conversation abruptly.

Today we have done a lot of internal works to attempt to safeguard our blog against this in the future, including combing through our followers and attempting to find any more blogs of theirs, and in doing so we found several accounts, one of which we are certain is theirs, and two which we feel strongly about. We still are in shock that last night even happened, and we both are upset about it. We normally don’t handle things publicly but they continue to keep making blogs to follow us and straight up won’t handle things at all when we try to so we feel we have no other way. 

If you see brodisddabest1 on Wattpad posting our stories or anyone else’s, please notify us, the author, and/or Wattpad. Never ever do we promote harassment and are NOT asking anyone to message her on our behalf (and we encourage the exact opposite!) or anything, but please help us keep an eye out so there is no more reposting or stealing of ideas in the future. We also ask that you continue to support the original creators instead of those who reupload work on different platforms. If you have reason to suspect someone’s work is not their own, do your research and always be supportive of the true creator. There is no good that comes of this!

Calling All A-Team Fans – Help Preserve Fic from Fanfiction.net

I recently reblogged a post warning that Fanfiction.net could soon be lost to us forever. In the interest of preserving fandom history, many people are taking action to save fics before the site goes down (which, as far as I can tell, could happen at any moment – could be days, could be months, could be years... could end up being totally fine, I have no idea, but I’d rather not risk it).

There are 64 pages of A-Team (TV) fanfic on Fanfiction.net.

That’s about 1,600 individual stories.

They could all be lost to us at any moment (if the author hasn’t uploaded them elsewhere, like to AO3).

In the interest of preserving our fandom’s history, I’m rallying y’all to help save these fics.

To quote from someone on that other post:

“Do it comprehensively—start on the last page and save every. Single. One. Make sure you include the header and any author’s notes. EDIT NOTHING, ONLY DOCUMENT. Yes, if that means someone misspelled something or you spot a misnamed character, you need to keep that error. If you can form a “network” with friends to save all of a fandom’s works, DO IT.”

I’m taking care of the first (er, last) page right now. I’m not sure if I’ll have the energy to do more tonight. But I’m getting started archiving just in case we lose the fics.

I’ve been copy/pasting the fics into individual Google Docs, storing them in a folder I’ve titled “Fanfiction.net A-Team Archive”, and titling them as suggested below:

“I strongly recommend using the following format for whatever you save, so it can be indexed later: fandom_fictitle_author_datefirstposted.fileextension. So for example (I’m making this fic up for demonstration purposes, don’t bother looking for it), naruto_blessing_ichigo98_07192009 would be Blessing, by ichigo98, posted in the Naruto fandom on 19 July 2009. This provides all the information needed to see if a fic has been cross posted to the AO3, and to run a search engine to see if it’s archived elsewhere.”

I’ve also been copy/pasting the fic stats from the top of the fic, and putting them in the “summary” section of the Google Doc:

I’m not saying it needs to be done this way specifically, just as long as fics are getting saved.

If you wanna join me, I’ve set up a Google spreadsheet to mark which pages have been covered.

Feel free to tackle a page and put your tumblr @ or nickname or initial it or whatever you’re comfortable with.

If you’re going to use Google Drive/Docs to save the fics, I would recommend using a spare Google account if you have one (I’m using an account I have for getting spam emails lol), so you have plenty of room in the Drive.

Note on copy/pasting: Fanfiction.net’s interface doesn’t let you copy/paste on the desktop version. So, when you open a fic, change the “www” part of the URL to “m” to bring up the mobile version. This should let you highlight and copy the text without issues. I’ve also found that, on my computer at least, scrolling to the bottom and highlighting and then dragging the mouse back up to the top of the page highlights the text a lot quicker than starting at the top and scrolling down.

And, remember, this isn’t about saving only the fics you like. It’s about preserving the creations of our fellow fans and creating an archive. So.

I don’t know what we’ll actually do with these fics later... upload them to Ao3?? That seems like something we shouldn’t do without permission from the authors, right?? But many of them may be unreachable, given that some of these fics were posted all the way back in 2000. So. Idk.

But for now, the important thing is just to make sure we have them saved.

If you have some time to spare, tackling a page or two would be cool.

Just remember to check the spreadsheet so you don’t waste time saving fics that have already been saved.

If you want to add your saved fic Docs to the same Google Drive folder, I’ve made it public and editable, so you should be able to put your Docs in there. Please don’t abuse this power lol this is about preserving fandom history, and I happen to think that matters.

EDITING TO ADD: Someone pointed out that Fanfiction.net automatically filters out “M” rated fics when you first go to a search page, so if you’re helping archive the fics, remember to go to “Filters” and change the “Rated” filter to “Rating: All”, so we’re not missing anything.

How To Interact With Beta Readers - for Fanfic Authors

I wanted to make posts both for fic authors and beta readers, because I realized in several recent interactions that some helpful unwritten rules of fandom seem to have become lost to people who are new to it.

This isn't meant to be a call-out post against anyone to say 'you did it wrong!' (really, how could anyone be mad if you just didn't know any better), and there aren't even any definite rules for anything - but I just thought these things might be nice to know and helpful to share around. This first part will be @ the authors, the second part is @ the betas.

Asking for a beta reader

When you want someone to look through your fic, whether you ask in a tumblr post, @/helper in a discord server, in the notes of an already posted work or anywhere else, it's important to state both a) what the work that you want betad is and b) what you want from a beta reader.

The facts about the story.

The first most important facts about the story are a) length (in wordcount, as that is the most-used measurement for fanfiction - you can see it below the tags of an ao3 draft, or at the bottom left of a Word document), and b) rating and warnings. No, please don't just ask 'i have a fic for xy ship to beta' - that's nice information, but not helpful for someone who needs to decide whether they a) have the time to work on the length of fic and b) are willing to be confronted with the kind of content you have written.

In addition to that, you should of course also write what fandom, characters and dynamic it is about, because most beta readers are only willing to beta stories they would also usually read for fun. To make sure that the right people find the ask for a beta reader, you best target the post to them, so tag a tumblr post with the fandom and ship etc, and on discord share the request in a server or channel for the fandom, not an unrelated one.

What format is the draft in?

A word document you can send them via e-mail, a copy-pasted text in a direct message, link access to a google docs? Not everyone is comfortable with all of these methods, and you need to figure out one that works for the both of you.

Also, do you want the changes made directly in the text, in comment functions of the document, or as messages to you? If for example you send someone a Word document, and don't want them to change anything directly in your text, but they aren't comfortable working with the comment function there and end up writing you separate messages telling you what page and line the edits are one, that's going to be a lot more work for you to look through than you might have liked, so make sure to communicate it all beforehand and figure out a way that works properly for everyone.

What do you want from your beta?

'Well, to look over the story, duh?' but it's not that easy. Do you want the beta to:

- Only check for spelling and grammar mistakes in comments next to the text, No other suggestions at all because they would make you feel bad about your work/you don't have the time or want to spend the time on editing anything but honest mistakes/ any other reason?

- Grammar and spelling checks but also suggestions for word flow, repetitive words and phrases that could be changed and stylistic things like adding paragraph breaks (which are always nice to have for mobile reading)?

- [same as above] and also point out possible logic flaws and places where you might want to move a scene forward or back, or suggestions to things you could add to the story, with explanations as to why?

- [same as above] and also give suggestions for text you could cut that is unnecessary to the story or interrupting the flow of a scene in the opinion of your beta reader?

- Include nice messages as to what the beta liked best of the fic, or stay completely objective?

- Point out things they subjectively didn't like and would change about the story if they wrote it themselves, or not?

- Make corrections directly in the story, so afterwards you barely need to look at it anymore before you can publish it, or only give suggestions in comments or messages?

All of these are things some people welcome and others find incredibly annoying and/or hurtful! So make sure to communicate exactly what you are looking for. You don't have to do so in your initial public request, but once you have found a potential beta, you should text them the details before giving them access to your fic.

Do not be afraid of cancelling on a beta if you don't think it is going to work out! Whether because they aren't comfortable using the format you like to use, are a language teacher who can't stop correcting the long sentences you choose to keep as a stylistic choice, or just someone you don't vibe with, whether it's before or after they have started beta reading - be kind, but let them know that it just isn't working out, and that you would rather stop now before either of you wastes any more time and effort. If they want you to, you can tell them what you would have liked them to do differently, but don't ask someone to change how they are, and don't give unsolicited criticism, no, not even to a beta reader.

Decide on a time-frame

When are you going to send them the fic? Chapter by chapter over the next days, or the entire work? When do you want or need the work to be beta read? Is it for a challenge or gift exchange and needs to be finished on the same day, or can they wait for the weekend? Even if you don't have a specific deadline, when do you want them to send it back at the latest?

Working with a beta reader

After - or, if you are in for example a google docs at the same time, while - your beta reader does the corrections, you should look at them and decide which corrections you want to keep, and which to disregard. This is entirely your decision, it is your story, you don't need to feel bad if you don't take all of the suggestions for your work, even if you end up only correcting the spelling mistakes and ignoring everything else, it's your decision and this is fine.

If your beta gave suggestions for additional scenes or sentence changes, you can let them know once you have new text for them to correct, but keep in mind that they might no longer have time or energy to beta now, and don't be disappointed if they tell you this or don't reply. They already helped you, and you can always look for a new beta if you feel that your story still needs it.

Crediting your beta reader

Where are you uploading your fic, and how does your beta reader want to be credited? You best talk about this beforehand as well, as some betas only want to work on something when they will get the credit on a platform they are also on.

When posting on tumblr, it is usually expected to @ the person who helped you and write their url or tracked tag in the #s as well, but make sure to ask beforehand, as maybe they don't want other people to know they beta because they don't want to get swamped in work requests/ they don't want their url associated with for example explicit work/ they want you to tag a sideblog for the fandom instead of their main url.

On ao3, you can link to another author's dashboard or profile page (ask which one they prefer) in the notes by first going to the work text - rich text, writing their name, clicking the link symbol, pasting the url, going back to HTML text and cut-pasting the code to the note you want to have it in. You can do the prep work in a new work instead of your actual draft so you won't accidentally cut any of the work text. Again, ask the person beforehand whether they want to be linked there, or just want a nickname or their tumblr url credited.

You can also gift people works on ao3, and while this is in no way a requirement and most beta readers won't ask for it, just about everyone is happy to receive ao3 gifts! You can ask them beforehand if they want that, but as people can accept and refuse gifts on ao3 themselves, you can also let it be a surprise.

If your beta put a lot of work into your fic and wrote parts of it themselves, you can also make them a co-creator of the work on ao3, but only do this if you know and trust the person, as they will gain access to the fic and will be able to edit everything just like you.

Me on Tumblr...Tag game

I saw this done by @clarkgriffon and I like to avoid things that I should actually be doing. I also found a tag from a while back from @jlsadphoenix that completely got lost (so sorry about that!!) so here I go!

1. Why did you choose your url?

So when I first made my account on Fanfiction.net, I was just getting into Doctor Who and I thought it’d be cute to include my favorite sweet, so I became Chocovian (still there as that on Fanfiction and AO3, but it’s a long story). Anyways, when I joined Tumblr, I wanted to keep things consistent so I kept that but I was also on a bit of a Marvel binge when I was joining, so I thought, ooh superheroes! which combined with what I had initially became superchocovian.

2. Any side blogs?

Nah. I’ve thought about it, but everything is just dumped into this one blog and I do my best to tag everything so at least it’s semi-organized.

3. How long have you been on tumblr?

I first made the account the summer before I started college, I think, so back in 2015? I wasn’t very consistent with it until a few years later when I downloaded the app on my phone and figured out how to work things.

4. Do you have a queue tag?

No tag for the queue, though I do use it for mostly everything that is posted on my blog for the past few years. Anything else that I see on my dash ends up in my queue until I can organize it with my tags and all. It’s why I have wayyy too many posts in my drafts but now that school is over and once I get a job, I’ll have a better time at actually reblogging things when I see them instead of saving for later.

5. Why did you start your blog in the first place?

A lot of the fanfic authors that I was reading for The Hunger Games kept mentioning Tumblr for sneak peeks and updates about their posts and I’m like “yes please” and I caved and made my Tumblr.

6. Why did you choose your icon/pfp?

I was really happy that Emma and Killian from Once Upon a Time got their happy ending/beginning with their baby and I wanted to memorialize it. I should get around to updating it cause I’ve had it since the finale of the show.

7. Why did you choose your header?

All of the backgrounds that I have on my phone and laptop are of something nature/space wise so this fit right in.

8. What’s your post with the most notes?

I reblog mostly everything, so I have no idea. I did make a few gifsets last summer for one of the Once events so they got a handful of notes. Probably one of those.

9. How many mutuals do you have?

Not many? I don’t know how to check that or all, but I wouldn’t assume too many. I’m kinda stuck in a little bubble here and don’t interact with as many people as I would like to.

10. How many followers do you have?

Like 200 something? I had more before they did something to all the pornbots, so I’m pretty sure all of these are like actual followers, lol.

11. How many people do you follow?

I think like 100 ish?

Nah, I try to keep my thoughts off here. Just want to keep this a happy place for me.

Way too much. More than I should.

No. Thankfully. Again, I’m not as “active” with other people so I don’t really get involved with fights and stuff.

I think that people shouldn’t try to force me to do things I don’t want to. I definitely think that people should reblog content that has been created (not steal by reposting) but the opinion stuff that needs to be reblogged or something will happen? Yeah, no thanks.

Yes! I’ve been very bad at responding to them on time because of my timings with school, but they are great!

17. Do you like ask games?

Yes! I don’t get many asks when I do reblog the ask games, but I think that they are fun, for sure!

Though I’m not too sure what a mutual is defined as, the ones that I follow are pretty famous in the fandom, so probably fairly famous for the fandom side of Tumblr?

Evanstan Round Robin 2021 sign-up

Hi everyone! Enough interest has been expressed so we are going forward!

How this works, if you haven’t participated before:

Everyone who writes Evanstan is welcome! A round robin fic is where everyone agrees on a vague plot, and we all write one chapter of it (except for the organizer, in this case myself, who writes the first and last chapter). You will have an estimated 3 days to write your chapter, although this will depend on how many people sign up. Signing up means you are committed to writing at least 500 words (although are very welcome to write more than that!) and posting it on an agreed-upon date. Posting will take place sometime between the next week or two, and the week of Christmas Day, also dependent on how many people sign up.

Most people seem to be on board with "Chris's new hobby of piano playing, Chris and Seb celebrating Christmas with their combined families" as our very vague prompt, but that's not set in stone yet if anyone has any objections.

If you are interested in participating, here’s what I need from you.

In this email, I will need your tumblr url and AO3 handle. You will provide additional information in further emails. If you have either an aversion to or suggestion for our proposed plot, please include those as well in this email. Otherwise I will assume you are on board with it as-is.

Sex scenes are fine but please keep it contained within your own contribution - not everyone is comfortable writing sex, so please don’t get the person following you right to the brink and then hand the climax off to the next person (exception: if you know and have discussed this with the person writing immediately after you, and they’re cool with that, then that’s fine.)

As I hope should be obvious, racism or bigotry of any kind will absolutely not be tolerated.

Remember, this is meant to be a collaborative effort. Your chapter should, at least somewhat, pick up where the previous chapter left off. For example, if someone says it’s autumn in New York, as a setting, don’t randomly without explanation decide they’re living in Australia in the summer. Likewise, don’t have Chris or Seb wake up and go, “wow, that last chapter was all a terrible dream!” You are not writing your own mini-fic that relates to the overall theme, you are writing the *next chapter* of a hopefully-cohesive story. Respect your fellow authors by not ignoring what they wrote in their chapters, and the person following you should do the same.

Have fun with it! Your chapter is still your own and you are free to be as creative as you’d like. Part of the fun is the invention and additions (not contradictions) to the story!

Summary: The dining hall’s exactly the same as it has been for two mornings now, and Flynn doesn’t hesitate to poke Willie twice on the nose and whisper “pancake” on her way past their seat.

“Really?” they blurt. Flynn rolls her eyes and nods.

Summary: Over time, Camp Phantom has simply become known as a selective summer camp: one that took only the kids that Caleb saw promise in. And Caleb wasn’t exactly lying. He really did take only the ones he saw promise in, he simply looked for different traits than others might.

For example, say, hypothetically, a boy who could see the future. Or, hypothetically, a girl who could interact with ghosts. Or, hypothetically, a boy who could summon objects to him with a simple thought. Or, and this is completely hypothetical mind you, a boy who could manipulate time.

Those might be some traits that Caleb saw promise in. Just, like, as examples.

Time will tell (But only if you do it right) (Rated T) [Flynn x Carrie]

Summary: Carrie had been acting a little off for a week or so, but Flynn was pretty much known for seeing something in nothing, and that was probably what they were doing then. If something was going on, Carrie would tell her eventually.

Summary: It’s the first day of their second week at Camp Carolling (they’re spending an entire month, and they’re getting paid to be there!) when Reggie gets a little lost in the woods. During this misadventure into the woods, he finds an egg shaped rock, an inhabited cabin that may or may not be riddled with signs, and something that might be magic. He probably doesn't get paid enough to discover magic.

Summary: When Alex met Willie just after their senior year of high school, they spent a wonderful three months dating before their relationship ended in a blaze of glory. Now, four years later, they meet again as counselors at a summer camp. The only problem? Alex keeps reliving their first day together. The day that Luke had declared "Prank Day."

This is not how Alex pictured his summer going.

Summary: Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow creeps in this petty pace from day to day for Macbeth, but not so for Alex and the production of Hamlet that he is directing and starring in. And while he's stuck repeating the day of the performance over and over, mishaps of all kinds befall the cast.

“I most certainly am not,” Alex cuts Reggie off.

“Or how about the time Luke tried to put glitter in Julie’s bed,” Carrie joins in, “but got my bed instead? I can appreciate some glitter, but even I know when enough is enough.”

“Suffice it to say,” Willie finishes after they’ve passed around a dozen or so more memories of pranks from the summer, “we’re all done being your collateral damage. Whatever Julie has planned for you tomorrow, Luke, you’re on your own.”

Here We Go Again (Rated T) [Julie x Luke]

Summary: Julie blinked as she stared at the place Euterpe had disappeared. What did that even mean? What journey? Old places and lost faces? What was she talking about? But before she could dwell on the questions swirling around in her mind, the sky full of stars began to move, shifting in place and descending until they were all around her. Julie felt her feet leave the ground as she rose up and up. One star in particular was burning brighter than the others, growing bigger in front of her.

It grew and grew, until the light was blinding and Julie had to throw a hand up against the harsh light. She closed her eyes as the light surrounded her and then she was falling. Falling down, down, down.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Everything I Wanted - Hinny’s relationship from the day after the kiss to the day of the break up during HBP. 

Fallin’ All in You - The week leading up to the Hinny kiss during HBP. 

A Bit of Both - Each of the Weasley’s finding out about Hinny - Missing moments from HBP & DH.

5. Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

Yes, because I LIVE for comments. Seriously, readers who take the time to leave comments on fics, please know you are making that writers day and we all love you very, very much. 

6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Everything I Wanted  - I did an epilogue with a somewhat happy ending but it’s still full of angst. 

7. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

Probably A Two Step Process, but I think the ending of Fallin’ All in You is happier just because you have to go through several chapters of longing and angst to get there. 

8. Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written?

I don’t write crossovers. I can see the appeal but I think if I attempted to, it would quickly devolve into pure fan-service with very little of substance in the actual writing. I will leave the crossovers to those more talented than I. 

9.  Have you ever received hate on a fic?

No. I’ve had comments where people disagree with me and I’ve had to give myself a shake and remember not to take it personally (Thank you, Three Broomsticks Discord Server, for giving me perspective!). Everyone is entitled to their own interpretation and if we all read the text the same then fan fic would be extremely limited and boring.

10. Do you write smut? If so what kind?

I have written some smut; I haven’t posted any of it. My goal is to one day get the confidence to post it! 

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

No. What kind of sociopath would do that?? 

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Nope... if anyone wants to though, send me a message and we can work it out :)

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Nope, I see people doing this and there are a lot of amazing writers within fandom that I would be honoured to work with, but I’m not sure my writing process really lends itself to co-writing. Maybe I’ll give it a try in the future! 

14.  What’s your all time favorite ship?

Harry/Ginny - does it even need to be said? 

15. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

I started writing a fic where Harry and Ginny don’t get back together immediately after the war and there’s so much angst and longing in it and there’s a scene at the end that I really, really love but keeping them apart without making one or both act out of character is near impossible so I doubt I’ll ever finish it. 

16. What are your writing strengths?

Character - I love getting inside a character’s head and writing in their ‘voice’

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Plot - I just want to write cute character interactions and having to build plot around it is daunting sometimes. 

Transitions - moving from one scene to another can be such a challenge. 

18. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I think it’s really cool when people include little details like this. In Britain there isn’t a very big focus on learning other languages so I would not feel confident in trying to include other languages in my fic, unless I checked it with someone fluent before posting. 

Just trying to write in Fleur’s dialect is quite a challenge for me, as anyone who has read my author’s notes will tell you! 

19. What was the first fandom you wrote for?

Harry Potter! 

20. What’s your favourite fic you’ve written?

My favourite is Everything I Wanted - it’s the reason I started writing and it truly is a labour of love. I’d never written anything aside from school work before I wrote the first scene for it (though it wasn’t the first thing I posted). I was so sad when I posted the last chapter. 

Special mention to A Bit of Both, though. It was so fun writing from so many different characters perspectives.
