The Best Witch in Paris by Lauren Crozier -a review
The Best Witch in Paris by Lauren Crozier Luna rides a battered old broom that keeps crashing itself into the school pond. She has a witch’s hat and wand and sometimes she’s quite good at magic, but she isn’t completely sure that she’s a real witch. She doesn’t have a familiar for one thing, and she doesn’t know where she came from—only that she was found by three witches who she now calls her…

Possibly the most perfect line I’ve read this year is from Julia Baird’s Phosphorescence: “...the question you should ask yourself is not ‘Am I a feminist?’ but ‘Am I a dickhead?’ #australianwomenwriters #phosphorescence #nonfiction https://www.instagram.com/p/CBWin2MDjQj/?igshid=18ykf17xz7m10

📙 The Matchmaker 🖋️ Saman Shad ➡️ Synopsis 💗💗💗💗💗 A wonderful heartwarming love story set in my own backyard! I love this to bits from the very easy read, all the recognisable settings, to the guaranteed HEA. There were many things that are discussions-worthy too, especially as this story is totally immersed in culture. I don't read very many romcoms but I found this very enjoyable and actually unputdownable. I enjoyed that characters are of mature age (in their 30s) who have their own issues but had real good friends who helped them AND even seek professional help! They seem like sensible people most of the time but we all have our ups and downs so they also have their silly moments. Yet, these flaws are what made them and their love story even more vibrantly alive. A fabulous debut and I'm looking forward to her next book. There are 2 things I'm wishing for at the end of this book (from the author): 1. A playlist 2. 'The Matchmaker - Gastronomical Tour' - I'm totally IN for this!!!! My thanks to @penguinbooksaus for gifting me a copy of this book. Thoughts are mine own. 🏷 #thematchmaker #samanshad #romance #romcom #contemporary #chicklit #booksandflowers #flowersandbooks #booksandwine #aussieauthor #australianwomenwriters #pocauthor #poc #bookstalife #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #ausbookstagrammer #booklover #booksta #igreads #lovetoread #eclecticreader #bookishfeatures #aussiebookstagrammers #readersofinstagram #bookreview #bookphoto #bookish #booklife #booksofinstagram #eclecticreader https://www.instagram.com/p/CpOYez4Shuz/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

💬 "Intimacy is knowing and seeing others, and them seeing you, and touching each other, not always physically, but that adds to it. " 🎉 Happy Publication Day 📓 Moon Sugar ✒️ Angela Meyer 🧬🧬🧬🧬🧬 For some reason, I thought that this was a dystopian novel but while it's not what I expected, I found that I enjoyed this rather a lot especially when everything comes together for me at the end. What begun as being lost in grief and in search of answers, in the beginning on the novel, turned into an acceptance and discovery of self by the end of novel. Which in turn enabled the protagonist for intimacy. I wasn't sure where the protagonist's journey was going to take her but I identified so much with a part of her that in the end, I feel very contented with her choices; a wonderful "magical" journey about living and connecting. My thanks to @transitloungepublishing for gifting me a copy of this book. 💬 "... what is true and what is thought to be true can run side by side, not meeting, staying just ahead of the creeping shadow... But sometimes the silence can be pitiless..." 📚 The Book Stack - September BOM 📘 The Proxy Bride ✒️ Zoe Boccabella 🌶 D.N.F 🌶 Disclaimer: due completely to personal preference I'm keen to find out more about proxy brides back in the days so I thought this will be an interesting read. I was actually enjoying it quite a lot until [around p130] where it transpires that... ****SPOILER**** ****SPOILER**** ****SPOILER**** ****SPOILER**** the characters who fell in [insta] love with each other are married to others... 😒 I'm on holidays and am not keen to explore this one any further so gave it to my friend to read. I believe it's in good hands 🤗 Thank you The Book Stack (bookclub on Facebook) for gifting me a copy of this book. ❓️ 🐱 OR 🐶? I do like cats but am probably more of a dog person if only because we've only ever had dogs as pets. 📔 How to Survive Your Magical Family ✒️ Clare Rhoden 🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛🐱 How to Survive Your Magical Family is a coming of age story of Toby as he discovers himself through a life changing adventure when he was kidnapped. He is an easily likeable character and so are most supporting characters. I found the villain rather ridiculous and did not like the reason why they wanted to hurt Toby & his family. The premise of magic is actually quite interesting especially with the obligation attached to being magical. The story itself moves at fast pace so a very easy read. The ending is somewhat unfinished so high probability that there might be a sequel. My impression from cover, title, & description of book was that this was going to be such a fun read. And it was! For me, at least. My 8yo started keen especially with protag with his name but as soon as we met the villain, he dnf-ed as he found it a little scary. So I'd say this book will fit older MG/younger YA audience who aren't sensitive to violence. It's really not that violent but villain is a big bully so just beware is all. My thanks to @odysseybooks for gifting me an ecopy of this book. Thoughts are mine own. #HowtoSurviveYourMagicalFamily #ClareRhoden #Youngadult #fantasy #magic #middlegrade #loveozya #loveozmg #Aussiereads #aussieauthors #australianwomenwriters #ausbookstagram #ausbookstagramer #bookstagram #bookandflower #bookandsnack #bookandtea https://www.instagram.com/p/CjFSP0Rr-Zd/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

❓️ What's your favourite tea? Are you a purist (ie. just black tea) or do you like a variety of teas? I love flowers in my tea especially roses though in not a fan of roses as fragrance in skincare etc 😅 📗 Deadhead and Buried 📚 Book 1: The English Cottage Garden Mysteries ✒️ H.Y. Hanna 🫖🫖🫖💀 I've enjoyed a couple of other series by this author though those 2 were focused more around food which is totally my thing! This one around the garden isn't my thing cuz brown thumbs here... but thought I'd give it a go anyway. Deadhead and Buried is a very easy and fast read. I feel that it's very simple / basic in comparison to her other books or maybe this being the first book in series so a lot of time was spent on setup. I'm keen to find out how Poppy develops as character and amateur sleuth. And no... didn't make me feel like gardening at all 🤣 #DeadheadAndBuried #TheEnglishCottageMysteries #hyhanna #cosymystery #cozymystery #mystery #Aussiereads #aussieauthors #australianauthors #australianwomenwriters #litcelebrasian #pocauthor #bookretreatbingo #bookandtea #gypsyrose #blackteaandrose #christinare #teacupandsaucer #belledefleur #newbonechina https://www.instagram.com/p/CjBxaoMPtvT/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

❓️ How's your staying power with long book serials? It's rather dismal for me... usually 5 or 6 and then I slacked off however this is one of those I've been hanging on to 😜 📕 Wrongfully Infused ✒️ H.Y. Hanna Book 11 is the series so yes, I've invested a lot of time and many many emotions. Unfortunately, while the MC stays true to her character, I feel the other more entertaining characters (the four old biddies) weren't featured as large as previous books. Also, what was that ending?! I. MUST. PROTEST!! I'm so absolutely devastated. Ok if such conflict is introduced at the beginning and somewhat tackled throughout but to end with that is just cruel 😭💔 #bookretreatbingo #wrongfullyinfused #OxfordTearoomMysteries #hyhanna #Aussiereads #australianauthors #australianwomenwriters #aussieauthors #cozymystery #litcelebrasian #pocauthor https://www.instagram.com/p/CirkMxqLeO-/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I've had an absolute ball reading this with others via @tandemcollectiveglobal . Thank you, Tandem, for organising & publisher, @harpercollinsaustralia for the copy of the book. The novel opens with our protagonist, Callum Haffenden, returning (somewhat reluctantly) to Granite Creek. Despite his hesitation, he is implacably drawn to the latest missing person case in Granite Creek. Despite his dread of his past, of the whispering, he must, once and for all, discover the truth. Gorgeous description of setting though somewhat creepy and uncomfortable but very atmospheric. It's a very clear picture of a grey world with unremitting drizzle (sometimes drenching!) combined with humidity-related sweat which lend the mystery ever more intriguing. As Callum continued to dig in the current mystery, his mind is also slowly clearing up his murky memory of the past. Hand in hand along with secrets the townspeople carried and hid, Veronica Lando wove an intricate mystery replete with smokescreens and suspense. A powerful and thrilling read! QTD: can you spot all green frogs? My 7yo had fun doing that and was rewarded by being allowed to eat them 🤣 And do you know that you just can't rock up at Woolies to buy a pack of them?! These were very lucky finds!
