A little #detail action. "Pipeline Tuttu" * * * #MEGAfauna #painting inspired by my #arcticdrive in a @jeep to #Utqiagvik last winter, involving 200+ miles of driving over the sea-ice. This is a section of the #daltonhighway along the #pipeline through the #Alaska #tundra where we saw many #caribou (tuttu, if you know) which leads us to this piece (22x30" - mixed media on canvas - 2017). "Carl Sanarov - The Brothers Sanarov" - 2017, 30x37 inches, acrylic on board. By AustinParkhill.com "Carl" is the center panel of a collaboration triptych by @karlkoett, @austinparkhill and @pettibonedavid. The Sanarov brothers are from a Russian Old Believer village outside of Homer, Alaska. First and foremost, the brothers identify by their religion, seeking to carry on the traditions of their ancestors as long as possible. Split from the Russian Orthodox church, their traditions reflect an earlier, more "pure" time in the church's history. The brothers are fishermen by trade and family tradition, hauling in salmon and halibut from their private boats which provides income and fish to feed to their family. When home, the Sanarovs are impressively skilled hockey players with sturdy reputations and hearty smiles around the rink.
