I always liked that Persona 2 also talked about the Christmas cake label and the theme when exactly a woman should marry, have children or why not never marry at all and live childless. I have always thought that it was annoying when people ask about ‚when will you marry, have children etc.‘

The three example that mention the Christmas cake trope are Junko, Ulala and Mizuno.

Kurosu Junko/Queen Aquarius in Tsumi wishes to be young again since not only is Kashihara dead in Tsumi making her far more nervous about her actress career (she likely fears that she will only get aunty roles and no interesting roles anymore) and obsessed with youth. Since Jun grew up as a latch-key child he on the one hand disliked this but also wanted Junko’s attention (he plays piano to please Junko, he likes omletts since she often made them, he hates cup noodles since he associates it with being neglected). Junko then ends up redeeming herself by sacrificing herself for Jun at Caracol when she realizes that Joker is Jun.

While Junko is still pretty young as a mother (37, thus she was 20 when Jun was born) there is of course always the subject with her job as an actress if she is still able to get good roles etc. 

In Japan when actresses have children and/or marry there are almost always immediately speculations whether the actress retires (it‘s always encouraging when you see that actresses don‘t give up and return). It‘s actually quiet good for Junko that she has ended up in business for so long already.

In Batsu Kashihara Akinari is alive and Junko merely uses Kurosu Junko as a stage name this time. The family are all close on This Side.

Junko is more relaxed and it is only implied that had she some sugery this time.

I also think she she greatly resembles Tsukikage Chigusa from Glass Mask in Batsu like mentioned in an interview.

In Ulala‘s case she was born on November 30, 1974. She is 24 close to her 25th birthday since Batsu takes place in autumn 1999.

This is precisely why she is so nervous about her love life, went to Omiai, constantly mentions that she is a Christmas cake soon.

Ulala has an inferiority complex regarding Maya since Maya has a better job, Ulala cooks, cleans, applies make up and chooses outfits for Maya (in mythology Callisto is Artemis‘ servant) and since Maya who is 23 doesn‘t worry about marriage etc. at all.

Maya‘s boss Mizuno is introduced as 30-something and still not married.

Even with her who is depicted as grumpy in the beginning she later on becomes milder and talks more about her former dreams etc.

Apparently, birthdays are cursed but thankfully the kids' bday landed on Harvestfest. So they were able to appease the gnomes.

But, uh, Pandora was the only successful one.

Taku autonomously gave Pandora the best hug ever and the Watcher thought it was SO CUTE!

Ok I wanted to tell someone who would understand the reference for my new DND character (and I just remembered you play!)

So! My character, a wood elf Bard, is named Elara Callisto- and she has a vaguely East-coast accent.

I love it because I made her related to the Greers (Milo is her cousin and Marie her aunt). None of my friends know the characters/Redacted, but it's just a fun little easter egg for myself!

Should I add Sweetheart into the family as Milo's partner? Maybe Colm as the weird estranged uncle? Maybe the rest of the Pack could fit in somewhere in Elara's backstory.

I do play DnD! A lot! I shamelessly stole the name Min'Ara for my Circle of Stars Druid and 100% full on played Caelum for a one-shot a while back lol

Hey, swiping stuff like that for your DnD characters that are just for you and the rest of your group knows nothing about makes the game more fun! (In my opinion. Playing Caelum gave me a Very Easy guide for how to roleplay a personality when I didn't initially have time to come up with a backstory)

Frickin' add Sweetheart in if you want! Who cares, it's all for fun! Adapt the stories however you want that fits what you need it to be.

Consider this: the rest of the pack is Elara's cousin's "weird friends" that she went on a camping(?) trip with when she was "a kid" (by elf standards) and the DnD equivalent of Asher made so many innuendos it may or may not have ruined her innocence but ssshhh don't tell Auntie Marie or she'll beat his ass and because it's a DnD backstory there has to be some tragedy so something bad happened on the trip

TL;DR #5: “Sacrifice I” Analysis

“Sacrifice I” is a Rift Arc episodes remix that pays particular homage to “The Deliverer” but has “Maternal Instincts” and “When in Rome” overtones as well.

The episode opens with a god and a fake-out. “The Deliverer” started with Discord and Ares and was a fake-out until its final moments.

Ares pops up a few times a la “TD” to try and win Xena to his side by warning her about the dangers of unnatural, unwelcome gods.

Seraphin sweetens Khrafstar’s arguments for the rightness of the rule of Dahak, while also being a stand-in for Meridian. Thus, Gabrielle is on the one on a mission to save a warped innocent from great evil, bringing Xena along for the ride and taking Xena’s original place in this “TD” rehash.

All the while, poor Callisto is stuck in “Maternal Instincts.” She breaks out of a seemingly inescapable fate, allies with and tends to Hope, voices desires to have birthed the girl herself while also dubbing herself auntie Callisto, pointlessly scuffles with Xena, claims to be doing people favors, and wishes for oblivion.

Just when she finally moves beyond “MI,” realizing that Xena means to trap her under rocks again and trying to get around that fate, the goddess falls prey to it anyway. Xena once more leaves Callisto buried in rubble, to the tune of a taunt.

When Gabrielle asks if Xena thinks that Seraphin can be restored to the person she used to be, it reminds me of how concerned Gabrielle was about not leaving Crassus as Vercinix in “When in Rome.” Once more, Xena goes ahead with her plan and makes Gabrielle take part in it despite the bard’s misgivings.

Because only people whom Xena wants to save can be saved and are worthy of the effort, while those she doesn’t just can’t and aren’t; end of discussion. Xena is, as ever, all too focused on her own gain while her best friend can choke on the soul damage of knowingly sending someone to their death, for all the warrior princess cares. That the doomed person is a loved one of Gabrielle’s and a true innocent this time around make no difference to Xena. Her way is the only way.

She even accidentally sends Gabrielle back into the climax of “The Deliverer,” trapped with a zealous Dahakian priestess while a ring of the evil god’s followers closes in on them.

Seraphin fulfills her Meridian role at long last.

Side Characters

Aunty - Tight, crushing hugs that only an older family member can give. The ones that're just pumped full of love

Amal - dont touch him, he's not touchy

Barbara - side hugs with one arm and a squeeze on the shoulder, typically the 'cheer up' kinda hugs

Celine - preceded by an Ugh, she is very picky about hugs and especially people reciprocating. It's a tight, brief squeeze. She really likes hugs, but she has an """image""".

Captain Torpedo - tight hugs that last a little bit too long. It wouldnt be so bad if he didn't smell like seaweed and sulfer

Dash - brief and to the point, he is not a hugger. He cannot focus on anything but the dirt that could be accumulating while he takes a break. Someone help him

GiGi - Really tight hugs that pop your back and usually end with him ruffling your hair, tipping your hat in front of your eyes, or a punch in the upper arm.

Jan - much like Daphne, he doesn't put a lot of squeeze in his hugs, but they're nice nonethless

Joey - dont fucking touch him

Kayane - tight and typically paired with her jumping up and down, she hugs out of excitement

Mia - hugs that she doesn't reciprocate at all except for a weak pat on the back/head, followed by her quickly changing gloves

Retdex - hugs that last for the right amount of time without being uncomfy, a real middle range on the scale

Timmy - hugs that really show off hidden strength from carrying a ladder all day

Yiruk - really tight hugs as he lifts you off the ground. Be careful of his spikes

Zam - SQUEEZE hugs that usually only happen when he's excited or it's been a while

Zed - uncomfy hugs. He doesn't like being touchy, no one likes this, please undo this interaction

Neon J - while his arms are angular and his body is sharps, they're very good hugs

White 1010 - 100% always involves him picking you up in just about every hug. Height advantage (if you're taller it flusters him if you pick him up :) )

Red 1010 - he's gonna act like he doesnt want one. Doesnt care for em, doesnt need em..... hes a cuddle bug, many many hugs tight hugs

Yellow 1010 - many hugs! Also likes carrying people he likes around!

Green 1010 - hold him liek teddy bear

Sayu - tight! Excited! Picks you up and spins you around! Th e LOVE LEVELS! off the cHARTS

Blue 1010 - prefers side hugs and leaning against folk than actual hugs
