I have this theory that Topock Street is the shortest street in the City of Los Angeles. It’s only one block long, and it only has one address on the entire run of it. But I have another theory that the owner of 3415 Topock Street is aware of this and is actually proud of this, and that’s why they’ve taken the time to make the one LA address on Topock Street be neatly written, even if the rest of the building isn’t so tidy. The door is always locked and I’ve never seen anyone go in or out in ten years.

"FROM THE FRAT HOUSE TO THE ART HOUSE..." -- THE G-SON/ATWATER YEARS.
PIC INFO: Spotlight on American alternative hip-hop group, BEASTIE BOYS, meet The Stud Brothers. 📸: Tom Sheehan, from the UK's "Melody Maker" music publication, published on April 11, 1992, during the B. BOYS' "Check Your Head" era.
"Six years after their notorious debut, "Licensed to Ill," the brat pack trio may no longer be a threat to the nation's youth, but their new album still packs a fearsome and inventive punch that pushes the limits of rock and rap. THE STUD BROTHERS report."
-- THE MELODY MAKER, c. April 1992 (the "Check Your Head" LP was released a month prior)

McCall’s Meat & Fish Co, 3141 Glendale Blvd, Los Angeles (Atwater Village), CA 90039
Tumblr media
McCall’s Meat & Fish Co. moved from Los Feliz to Atwater Village recently. I thought it was a meat/fish market – didn’t realize that it’s also a gourmet market with baked goods, sandwiches (premade, unfortunately), farmer’s market produce, and high end cheeses, meat, fresh fish, nuts, nut butter, ice cream, snacks, sauces, condiments, spices, beans, butter, eggs, yogurt, etc. They carry pasta, tomatoes, and olives from Italy. The fresh pasta is from Domenico’s. They also carry items from local producers, like Brothers dips, Jyan Isaac breads, and Sugarbloom pastries.
Sweet pepper turkey on Jyan Isaac ciabatta ($15) from the cold case. It’s made with Hobb’s roasted turkey, Manchego, sweet pepper relish, pickled red onion, arugula, Dijon, red wine vinegar evoo, salt, pepper. The sandwich was about 3 x 3 inches – not huge but made with higher quality ingredients. It was good – the bread was chewy, the Dijon super strong, the thinly sliced turkey tasted fresh. I was afraid that the pepper relish would be too sweet but all their sandwiches had a sweet spread (there were three kinds to choose from). The relish was on the sweeter side. The bread was chewy and firm.
Prices are high but where else are you going to get purple brussels sprouts ($10/lb), Eureka lemons, and Koginut squash? They seem to be the only place that has Black Arkansas apples right now.
The store is beautiful. Wish they had more prepared food and made to order sandwiches. Get a number if you need help.

Y'all I love #queer history so this month for my birthday I'd love to take you into the world of cruising. Not only is the practice still alive, even straight ppl are doin it now (hook up apps are an evolution of cruising!) I think cruising, or the act of randomly finding someone to connect with for pleasure, is one of the best ways to honor the queers we lost along the path of gay liberation.
For me the best way to honor the tradition of cruising is of course to make a comedy show out of it. So if you are looking to randomly finding people to connect with for pleasure of comedy, join Jeena Bloom & I for the next CRUISING COMEDY on Tuesday 6/25!! Will it also be my birthday eve? YES. Is the lineup full of my absolute favorite and talented comedian friends? YES. Are early tickets $5 cheaper AND presales make sure the show will happen? YES!
#LosAngeles Get tix now and close out #Pride month with some laughs and joy

buck doesn't do things half assed does he.
he's trying to slyly bring up the topic one day, over breakfast no less, after a good, long night of fucking each others brains out. “it's so hot, isn't it. we're so hot. do you think it would... look hot?”
and tommy sets down his fork very slowly and looks at buck and tells him in no uncertain terms they're not getting a ceiling mirror.
buck chokes on his coffee. “not what i had in mind.”
tommy prompts him wordlessly, with a simple look signaling for buck to just come out and say it.
“maybe a camera?”
except one camera turns into three - and buck does his research, on the brands and models, and there's a place in atwater village where he can rent the equipment, all he needs is to get some insurance paperwork sorted, easy. he sits down and reads up on how to make a good sex tape, all about the lighting and the angles and he finds some good video editing software too.
tommy idly wonders what he's got himself into. part of him is really fucking excited, part of him feels like he's being asked to audition for a part he doesn't even want, and with zero preparation, and weirdly enough, he needs to sleep with the director to get the job? he's nervous, and buck can tell.
“just forget about the cameras, pretend they're not even here,” he says, “promise i'll delete all of the footage immediately after, just say the word.”
tommy relaxes into the mattress with a sigh, pulling his boyfriend closer to him to kiss him softly. “show me what you’ve got, big boy.”

THE B. BOYS WERE MY NEIGHBORS IN THE '90s, AND NO ONE EVER TOLD ME.
NOTE: ^I used to live in neighboring Los Feliz for most of the nineties, but I was just a kid at the time with absolutely zero interest in hip-hop music.

HomeState, 3170 Glendale Blvd, Unit A&D, Los Angeles (Atwater Village), CA 90039
Tumblr media
HomeState keeps opening new locations and I’m happy about it. HomeState’s female founder, Briana Valdez, moved to Los Angeles and missed the Tex-Mex food, including breakfast tacos ($3.50 and up), anytime tacos, queso, brisket, migas, etc. They use pasture-raised eggs and that does make a difference. Breakfast is served all day but it seems to be busier around lunch time than early in the morning. There are vegetarian and vegan options. They have beverages, including margaritas. It’s the perfect brunch spot.
I was a regular for awhile because I love their migas. I tried a variety of things and the tacos are good but Classic migas are special. The tacos seem small but with migas, you get a lot of eggs.
Classic migas ($8.50): scrambled eggs with crispy corn strips, onions, cheddar cheese. The eggs are soft and fluffy, the cheese melted and stretchy, and the chips add a little texture. It’s like chilaquiles minus the sauce and with more eggs. Love dousing migas with their housemade red and green salsas and adding a housemade flour tortilla ($1) so that I can make my own breakfast burrito. The tortilla is served warm and a little thicker than your usual flour tortilla.
House coffee: Bitter but drinkable, free refills
Order at the counter and get a number. They’ll bring your order to you. The food arrived fairly quickly. The place is cute – the outdoor patio is covered and has music and string lights – a relaxing place for tacos. There’s a station where you can get hot sauce, salt, pepper, water, etc. The employees also check in with you to see if you need anything. Service is good.
