Part 1

[Chan's dad crashes a party and drags him away]

Zuko: Wow. I bet he wished his dad would just disappear.

Mai, offended: It's late. Excuse me. *leaves*

Zuko: *groans*

Katara: Struck out with Mai, again? You're not the first.

Zuko: I just wish I knew what set her off.

Katara: Mai's dad is dead.

Zuko: Aw man! How stupid am I?! I absolutely know how bad it feels to grow up without a dad!

Ty Lee: *screams* There's a rat!!!

Zuko: It's those things again!

Katara: Fire sprites!

[Earthquake cracks the floor and a dragon's eye peers through the window]

Katara: They didn't come alone! That's their master!!!

Ozai: *rips off the roof*

Ruon-Jian: DRAGON!!! *everyone scatters*

Katara, grabbing Zuko's arm: It's Ozai! Seriously Ozai!!!

Zuko: RUN! *leads her away*

[They hide behind a car as Ozai continues to rampage]

Katara: It doesn't make any sense! There hasn't been a dragon attack in years! Why now?! Why here?!?!

Zuko: Because I'm here! He's looking for me!

Katara: Why?!

Zuko: Because he's not only Ozai, King of the Dragons! He's also... my dad...

Katara: WHAT?!

Ozai: *gets on all fours and draws closer*

Katara: Is he... smelling for you?

Zuko: He must know my scent. I'm not kidding about him being my dad! You better run, Katara!

Ozai: *Picks up the car they were hiding behind*

Zuko: I SAID RUN!!!

Katara: *runs away*

Ozai: *pins her down with his tail*

Zuko: No! Let her go!!! You'll crush her!!!

Katara: *screams*

Ozai: *chuckles*

Zuko: I SAID LET HER GO!!! *throws a motorcycle at Ozai*

Ozai: *releases Katara then chases him*

Katara: Zuko...

Can we talk about something for a minute. Ember Island. The Beach episode.

Those two boys while jerkish weren’t that bad.

They invite these random people to their party right (only wanted the cute girls but meh the dude can come too) and kick them out cause they’re throwing a scene (zuko legit throws the host in the corner like come on)

Cool then that group of people come back and fucking wreck your house. WTF?

They were so messy for that. Imagine then you find out months/weeks later it was the fucking Firelord’s kids (they didn’t know then but I imagine the Agni Kai was big news) and the new Firelord trashed your house and got you grounded.

And your parents will literally never believe you.

How about a little trip back in time into a very different fandom?

I lost most of my pre-2016 fanfic when I nuked my Deviantart account a few years back. Don't worry, you aren't missing much except for the one 40K story I actually remember which will be on an old laptop somewhere.

And, as it turns out, this lone survivor hidden away on fanfiction.net for some reason. Posted all the way back in September 2015 and dated as such on ao3 as well because that's the Moral and Upright thing to do 😤

It's an ATLA parody of George Macdonald Fraser's Flashman series - one of the major influences on the Ciaphas Cain books and very much worth reading even to this day. I personally think Royal Flash and Flashman At The Charge are the best ones but they're all very good at having an utterly reprehensible protagonist and still somehow making you care about him.

In 40K terms he's a much less pleasant Cain with no Jurgen equivalent since he was stolen from Blackadder instead. But, like I said, GMF almost always manages to walk the tightrope of making him entertaining even so.

Anyway, there I was almost a decade ago watching The Beach episode of Avatar and I suddenly thought that this dude had all the makings of ATLA's very own utterly undeserving Hero of the Fire Nation.

If memory serves I had a whole cast of supporting characters planned and a general storyline sketched out before real life started kicking my ass. Maybe it'll come back to me someday, who knows?

Just finished watching The Glory so of course I had to make a Zutara AU based on it.

Summary: Katara is violently bullied throughout high school by Azula and her crew to the point of dropping out. After Azula gets her father to bribe Katara's grandfather Pakku to drop charges against them, Katara vows revenge. Years into her long term plan, she runs into Zuko, Azula's disgraced brother, who helps her take out the family that disowned him. After the plot, Katara helps Zuko track down his missing mother.

Bang Chan

Katara: Iroh Appa: The mechanist

I think Chan would see himself in Katara’s caring and parental nature. He would try to chose Iroh as his favorite side character, but all the members love Iroh so much (like us all) that they would start fighting over him, so he changes to Appa due to his major but understated roll in the story. Similar to why he loves Katara, Chan admires the mechanists willingness to do anything and everything to protect his people and family even at the expense of his morality.

Lee know

Aang: Azula: Won Shi Tong

I think Lee know likes the way Aang remains connected to his culture and traditions even though he is practically the last one in the world that follows them. He also likes that Aang clings to his goofy nature even when the literal fate of the world is up to him. Lee know loves Azula's wit and cunning and drive to do whatever it takes to get what she wants. Idk why but Lee know gives Won Shi Tong big time especially when he is putting on his more like kamidere/arrogant persona. Lee know would like Won Shi Tong's no bullshit attitude and unsettling presentation.

Changbin

Toph: Ty Lee: The boulder/ Jeong jeong (the deserter)

These felt so obvious to me. Changbin loves Toph's self assuredness and confidence. Even though Changbin is definitely more humble, I think he likes that Toph truly is the best and isn't afraid to say it. He likes how bubbly and sweet Ty Lee is, as well as the fact that she is often overlooked because of it but doesn't change. He likes that even despite her struggles she is able to maintain her cutesy personality. The boulder is so self explanatory. When it comes to Jeong jeong, Binnie admires Jeong jeong's acknowledgement of the dangers of his own power and reluctance to teach the avatar because of it.

Hyunjin

Zuko: Princess Yue: Jin (the girl Zuko goes on a date with)

I think Hyunjin really identifies with Zuko's inner turmoil, flipping back and forth on what is “right”. Hyunjin LOVES Princess Yue. He loves the way she shows immense strength along side her beauty and fragility rather than despite it. He also loves the tragic love story. I thought of Jin when thinking of Hyunjin. I think he likes the lovestruck teen archetype, but rather than just her as a character, he really likes her relationship with Zuko. I think he loves the scenes of Zuko attempting to be a normal teen but no matter how hard he tries, Zuko can't fit in. I think Jinnie would resonate with that.

Han

Sokka: Mai/Jet: Huu (swamp bender that controls the vine monster)

Again, these felt very obvious to me. I think Han likes the comic relief that Sokka provides, but what he really likes is Sokka's ingenuity and ability to make the most of what he was given. I think he also resonates with Sokka feeling like an outsider. I had to include Mai bc Han also would relate to Mai's angsty teen ways, but I think he likes Jet more. Han would like that Jet's story shows that the drive to right others wrongs can, and often does, lead to you committing wrongs yourself. Han likes Huu because he reminds him of Lee know: silly but enigmatic and profoundly wise.

Felix

Katara: Suki: Hama

I think Felix has a thing for strong female characters (who doesn't?). He loves Katara's determination and passion for water bending and willingness to break rules and norms in order to become a master. He loves Suki's strength, again her smashing societal expectations by not only being a bad ass warrior woman but also a nonbender. Hama does some messed up stuff, but I think Felix would empathize with her past and admire her staunch determination to survive and persist in a land of people who hate her and people like her.

Seungmin

Zuko: June: Aunt Wu (the fortune teller)/ The cabbage man

I think Seungmin would connect with the destiny aspect of Zuko's story. That Zuko was so concerned with what he thought should be or what he wanted his destiny to be, that he couldn't see what he was truly meant to do, Seungmin finds really moving. If you have eyes, you should be in love with June. Like Iroh, I think she is a well loved character among the members. He likes her badass aura and don't need no man attitude. I think Seungmin would really like Aunt Wu's ruse as well as the fact that even though she is lying to town she has become a pillar of the community and keeps up the act to appease the townspeople. Cabbage man is self explanatory

I.N

Toph: King Bumi/ Momo: Chong (secret tunnel guy)

I think I.N would like her confidence like Changbin, but really admire her independence. As the maknae, I think I.N might, like Toph, be hyper-independent in order to try to prove something. I.N would like Bumi's quiet brilliance, allowing everyone around him to think he's a senile old man while truly being a strategic mastermind who is also insane. It would remind him of himself: often silent but brain always buzzing. It may just be the fennec fox aspect of Momo's design, but I.N has a soft spot for the flying lemur. Chong is again self explanatory but I think I.N likes Chong’s go with the flow disposition.
