50 Ways To Say Goodbye
911 x fem!reader
5k word count
Summary The 911 helps you escape your abusive ex but in true 118 dumb, dumb stile they create a bigger problem that Athena has to fix.
fluff, idiots
Warnings mention and description of death, domestic abuse and self-harm.
Note: I've been working on the next part of The Dating Oddessey while listening to some music. 50 Ways To Say Goodbye by Train came on and gave me this idea. Didn't quite turn out how I wanted but its still pretty funny. Also you could take this to mean either Eddie or Buck has feelings for you. Not how I intended it but it's how it came out.
...
Today you had finally done it. You had finally worked up the courage to break up with your horrible excuse for a human ex Bradley. You made sure to break up with him while he was working so you had witnesses. The last thing you needed was him gaslighting you back into the relationship like last time. With witnesses, it was harder for him to say the breakup never happened.
Today had been planned out for weeks. Your best friends, Eddie and Buck, had been helping you slowly remove your stuff from his house for the last month and taking it to your Dad's place. You did have much, after all, Bradley didn’t allow you to have much. He had to control everything from the furniture to the decorations and even the food kept in the house.
Outside Bradley's workplace Buck and Eddie were waiting for you in Eddie's truck. Your Dad, Bobby, was their boss and had given them the day off to play bodyguard for you. When you walked out the front door with Bradley storming after you both boys were fast to jump out of the truck and jog towards you. Eddie wasn’t going to let him hurt you anymore and Buck didn’t want what happened to his sister Maddie to happen to you for that reason Eddie had hidden a lot of what Bradley had done to you from all your friends and even your Dad. Eddies had been the house you would hide in for days at a time while waiting for bruises to heal. Eddie had been the person to give you that final push you needed to leave.
“What if next time he kills you y/n? Did you think of that?” Eddie slammed his fist onto his kitchen counter as you held a bag of frozen peas to your soon-to-be black eye. “Do you have any idea what that would do to me? To Chris? Hell, think about your father and Athena. The rest of our friends. We all love you y/n and yet you keep allowing yourself to be treated like shit. You know what if you're going to go back to him this time then I don’t want you in my house, take your things and leave” Eddie had left the kitchen, leaving you standing there shocked to your core. It scared you. More than the beatings. You didn’t want to lose Eddie as your friend, you didn’t want to hurt him or Chris, your family, your friends. Eddie was right enough was enough.
After that night you had come clean with everyone about what was happening. Athena was quick to offer up their spare room for you and Bobby wouldn’t take no for an answer. Eddie and Maddie had to keep Buck distracted at all times until your items were moved out of Bradley's house because he threatened to kill the guy if he laid eyes on him. So when Buck and Eddie saw him coming up fast behind you screaming at you Eddie made sure to direct Buck to get you out of the way. Buck was quick to slide an arm around your waist and guide you quickly to Eddie's truck. Eddie blocked Bradley from coming any closer to you. You couldn’t hear what was said between the two of them but whatever Eddie said had Bradley ducking back into his building quickly. Eddie waited until the building doors closed behind Bradley before walking back to the truck. He didn’t speak once he started the truck nor did he speak for the entire trip to your Dads. His white knuckles gripped the steering wheel the whole drive there. Their conversation was something that had pissed him off. Once at your Dad's, you excused yourself to go lay down. The day had left you physically and mentally exhausted.
“It’s okay baby you go rest, your Dad wants to cook you something special for dinner so I’ll come get you when his home and cooking, okay” Athena gave you a loving smile.
You made your way to the spare room and quickly made yourself comfortable on the bed. As you lay there you could hear Athena talking with Buck and Eddie.
“She’ll be safe here, trust me if that guy comes anywhere near this house he can consider himself arrested” Athena said
“How long does it take for someone like him to just leave a person alone?” Buck asked
“Some give up after a few days, some a few weeks, months, years, some never quit” Athena sighed “But this guy I’d say as soon as he has a new target he’ll leave her alone”
“Athena…” Eddie was cut off by someone banging on the front door. Before anyone could move to open the door what could only be described as a stampede echoed through the house. Heavy boots took staircase steps 2 at a time until the fanfare came to an end in the kitchen where Athena, Eddie and Buck still stood in shock at the interruption. Stood before them in full uniform fresh from a call were Bobby, Chimney, Hen and Ravi.
“What in the world are you lot doing in my kitchen?” Athena asked frustration lacing her voice
“Did you get y/n?” Chimney ignored Athena looking straight at Eddie and Buck
“y/n is trying to rest which she won’t be able to do with you lot acting like a bunch of zoo animals” Athena crossed her arms over her chest looking at them all like a disappointed mother.
“So what's the plan from here how do we keep her ex from intimidating her back into a relationship with him” Hen asked keeping her voice just above a whisper partly to keep from disturbing y/n but mostly to appease Athena.
“Well, to start Maddie and I are going to take her out for the day tomorrow, take her mind off all this” Athena motioned around the room.
“Then starting the day after I’ve adjusted our rosters so someone can be here with her around the clock in case he shows up here” Bobby spoke up
“Unfortunately, someone here invited him over for dinner so he knows exactly where we live” Athena threw an accusatory look at Bobby.
“Maybe she should come to stay with me he has no idea where I live” Eddie offered up.
“No she’s safer here with Athena” Bobby said “Any sign of trouble and Athena can have the entire LAPD on our doorstep” Bobby smiled at Athena.
“A Mumma has to protect her babies” Athena smiled back at Bobby. “And besides, he knows all of us and he will likely stalk all of us to get to her”
“So what are we supposed to do just wait for him to lose interest” Buck spoke up frustrated with the situation “I mean you said it yourself Athena it could take years”
“Or days or weeks or months, the only guaranteed way to get rid of him quick is if y/n died, it’s the only way I’ve seen his type leave their victim alone for good” Athena said. The 118 shared a look, a look of mischief, of a united thought on how to get rid of this threat to their family. Athena knew immediately what they were thinking and quickly began shaking her head and looking between them.
“Don’t you even think about it” Athena pointed a stern finger at each person standing in her kitchen. “You’ll be causing more problems than what you’ll solve”
…
Despite Athena's warning the 118 decided as a family that if ‘the asshole’ as they affectionately dubbed him showed his face to any of them they would warn him to back off and if he wouldn’t listen they would tell him y/n was dead. It seemed like the perfect plan until it wasn’t.
The first person to meet him face to face was Chimney. It was 4 days after Eddie and Buck had taken you to live with Bobby and Athena. It was Eddie's day off. He had taken you out for lunch, then you picked Christopher up from school before heading back to Eddies to hang out. Eddie asked if you wanted to stay for dinner and a movie. Christopher who overheard the offer from where he sat in the dining room doing his homework practically begged you to stay. You called Athena to let her know you were going to be out late with Eddie and that he was going to drive you back when the movie ended. Christopher was old enough after all to stay home alone for the 20 minutes it would take Eddie to drop you home.
Because of this, it was Chimney who got stuck working late at the firehouse. He was the last to leave after finishing off all the small boring end-of-shift jobs like making sure all the dinner dishes were done and the ambulance restocked for the next shift. Bradley had been parked across the road from the station all day watching the team come and go. Your little stunt at his office had cost him his job. He was going to make you pay and he had all the time in the world to make it happen. He waited and counted off your friends as they left. He wanted to make sure that he followed the last person to leave because he knew if he risked following anyone else the rest of your friends would know and his plan would be ruined. He noticed after the first three calls of the shift that one of the guys he had seen you out the front of his office with wasn’t on shift today. He decided it was likely that guy's fault you left him. You’d probably been seeing him behind his back all along. He’d make him pay too. He counted them out one by one as they left the firehouse, first, it was the other guy he’d seen at his office and some Middle Eastern-looking dude. Then that black woman he’d seen you hang out with left. Next was your father. He almost forgot to wait to see him. He wanted to chase him down and run him over with his car but he held it together. He knew there was one more person left. The little Asian guy. When he hadn’t come out after 30 minutes he almost thought he went home earlier and he’d missed him. That was until Chimney walked out of the 118 firehouse almost 45 minutes after his shift had finished. He was talking away on his phone not paying attention to his surroundings creating the perfect situation for a stalker.
He followed Chimney from the firehouse to one of those 24-hour corner stores. He followed him in close behind, waiting until Chimney was alone in the back of the store. As luck would also have it there were no security cameras in sight. While Chimney was distracted looking at the small selection of diapers the store carried, he took his chance. Before Chimney could respond, he had grabbed him by the shoulder and had him pinned against the diaper shelves he was just looking at.
“Where is she?” He asked aggressively.
“Who?” Chimney asked shocked but trying to remain calm. He knew exactly who he wanted.
“Y/n” He held back from yelling in Chimney's face.
“Y/n? You…you mean you haven’t heard?” Chimney tried his best at putting on a distraught face even willing a few tears to fall.
“Heard what?” He loosed his grip on Chimney.
“I’m sorry man, she… she's dead” Chimney said softly trying to lace his voice with sadness.
“What no! What happened?” He aggressively slammed Chimney back against the shelves.
“The night Eddie and Buck picked her up from your place she slit her wrists in Bobby and Athena's bathroom” Chimney made himself sob.
Bradley shook his head in disbelief and ran from the shop. Once out of sight, Chimney let a massive grin break out on his face and he let out a proud chuckle. He grabbed diapers and practically skipped to the counter with them. He was so proud of himself and his lie. He knew if Bradley went looking to see if it was true he would see there had been a call out to Bobby and Athenas that night. It hadn’t been for you thought. Buck being the massive cluts that he is had managed to get his foot stuck in the bin beside the toilet while changing out a light bulb in the sconce above the sink which had stopped working while he was using the toilet. While trying to get the bin off his foot he slipped on the bath mat and fell smacking the back of his head with a loud yet hollow-sounding thunk on the sink, Luckly for Buck he has a thick skull and came out of it with a sore bum, ankle and head and a bruised ego. They still had him taken to the hospital because even though the injuries weren’t that bad he still needed to be cleared of any major head injury before returning to work.
…
2 days later by chance, he ran into Hen. It was her day off and she was about to come pick you up to go out to the movies but first, she had to run some errands. Bobby wanted to have a barbecue at his place to celebrate family and new beginnings. She was grabbing a few things to take with her when he spotted her. She was about to walk into the supermarket when he walked out. Seeing Hen he decided to take the chance to confirm what Chimney had told him. He grabbed Hen who was distracted by the shopping list on her phone and pulled her to the side of the door.
“What do you think you're doing? Get your hands off me!” Hen snapped.
“I’m sorry I just want to talk” He sighed.
“What do you want?” Hen asked crossing her arms over her chest,
“Is it true?” He asked.
“Is what true?” Hen asked.
“Is she dead?”
“I’m afraid so” Hen dropped her head.
“No, no it can’t be” He looked at the ground.
“If it means anything she didn’t suffer” Hen put a hand on his shoulder. When he looked up at her confused Hen was quick to drop her hand back by her side. “There was nothing anybody could do for her. I can assure you she died the second the car made contact with the semi, she wasn’t even aware of the fire”
“A car accident?” He stumbled backwards. He ran away from Hen and made his way into the parking lot. The groceries he had brought were abandoned on the ground. Hen passed a confused look to the parking lot, shrugged and continued with her day. She knew if he went looking he would find a two-vehicle collision between a truck and a car. Y/n was nowhere near the accident but the 118 had responded to the accident so if he looked it up he wouldn’t be able to accuse them of lying.
…
The very next day Ravi saw Bradley hanging out across the street watching the fire house. Ravi would have run off and grabbed Bobby but he was at home spending time with you. Ravi took a quick look around but couldn’t spot any other members of the 118 to alert. Ravi decided that he was going to have to do something about it himself. He jogged across the road and stood beside Bradley's car. He positioned himself in such a way that if anything should happen anyone watching on in the firehouse would be able to see both Ravi and Bradley in the car. Ravi through a look back at the firehouse and then turned his attention back to Bradley.
“Any reason you're watching the firehouse?” Ravi asked faking a smile trying to pretend that he didn’t know who the man in the car was. “Are you interested in working for the LAFD? I could get you some information if you want to come inside” Ravi motioned towards the firehouse with an outstretched hand.
“Oh no, I was just hoping someone could help me get some information on a friend” Bradley put a fake smile on his face.
“No problem sir if you want to come inside I can set you up in the captain's office and we can all have a couple of officers down to help you” Ravi never once let the smile on his face falter.
“I don’t want to be a bother” If he stepped foot in the firehouse he knew he would be recognised by the other members of the 118. “My friends' name is Y/n Nash I believe you know her, she’s the fire captain's daughter”
“Oh y/n, yeah I knew her, um the captain is actually off today, I guess you’re here for the funeral?” Ravi let his smile drop. He tucked his hands into his pockets, rocked back on his heels and looked at the ground. “I could get you the funeral details if you want”
“No, no it’s fine, when did she die? How did she die? I mean last time I saw her she was healthy, she seemed happy” Bradley knew he was baiting Ravi. He’d already been told two different things. Either your whole team was messing with him or you were messing with them. Either way, he was going to figure it out and track you down. And when he found you he was going to make you pay.
“Uh she…she was involved in a hit and run, Cap had to decide to turn off her life support. The doctors said she had almost no chance of recovery any way” Ravi looked up to the sky knowing if he looked Bradley in the eyes he might break and smile.
“I’m so sorry to hear that, I was just in town and thought I would stop in for a minute but I wouldn’t want to be a burden, pass my condolences on to Bobby” Bradley gave Ravi a small smile and pulled away from the firehouse. When he was out of sight Ravi fist-bumped the air and jogged back into the firehouse. As far as Ravi was concerned that was the last time he thought any of you would hear from him. Bradley on the other hand had only gathered more evidence that the 118 was potentially lying to him.
…
Early the next morning Bradley stalked Eddie to his usual running path. He waited until Eddie was on a particularly quiet portion of the track, hidden from the eyes of the public by bushes and trees. He blocked Eddie's path not allowing him to step around him. Eddie the second he laid eyes on Bradley wanted to punch his lights out but he held his composure. Eddie placed some distance between himself and Bradley before speaking up.
“What the hell do you want?” Eddie said voice laced with anger.
“I just want to know what happened to y/n” Bradley put his hands up in surrender.
“You have no right to ask about her” Eddie snapped “She was so happy until you came along, you broke her down, you isolated her from us, you’re the reason…” Eddie choked on his words. A mixture of real and fake emotions was flowing through Eddie. He was so upset and caught off guard that he almost went off the script. “You’re the reason shes dead”
“Now Edmundo I don’t believe that for a second” Bradley smirked at Eddie
“Look in my eyes and tell me I’m lying” Eddie growled, “I carried her lifeless body out of her parent's house after she blew her brains out with her mother's gun, I begged and pleaded with god and anyone who would listen to bring her back to me, to us.”
“No, no… you're lying!” Bradley yelled backing away from Eddie.
“She killed herself because we wouldn’t let her go back to you, maybe we should have, maybe if we did she’d still be here” Eddie's gaze dropped to the ground. The next thing Eddie heard was the sound of someone running away from him. He looked up to see himself once again alone. A smile broke out on his face as he continued with his run. He couldn’t wait to finish up his run, get home, shower and get to work. The only thing that was going to top this was having dinner with you, Buck and Chris tonight. Bradley on the other hand was not so sure what was going on. He found himself confused. Everything Eddie said seemed so genuine. Maybe Bobby and Eddie had told the rest of the team different things to keep them from knowing what happened. He hadn’t seen you around since that day in the office not even with Eddie and Buck even though he knew you’d always run off to them in the past. Still, he had two more people to ask and he wasn’t going to stop until he got the truth.
…
That afternoon he followed Bobby into a butcher as he looked for the perfect cuts of steak and his favourite burger patties for the weekend during some downtime between calls. He wanted this BBQ to be reminiscent of the BBQs that you had when you were a kid even though, Mum, Robbie and Brook weren’t here anymore and you’d felt like he had tried to replace them with Athena, May and Harry. You’d grown to love them like Bobby did and accepted them as your family. Bobbys plans came to a halt when Bradley grabbed him by the arm and spun him to look at him. Bobby went from shocked to furious in seconds. Bradley could tell immediately that Bobby was not impressed to see him.
“I’m not trying to start anything” Bradley puts his hands up in defence “I just need to know…”
“Need to know what?” Bobby snaps crossing his arms across his chest making himself larger and more intimidating.
“Is she dead?” He asked.
“My daughter? My child who you destroyed so completely that she couldn’t see her self-worth. Yes, she’s dead and it's all your fault” Bobby was now shaking with anger, his arms hung limp at his side and his gaze had met the floor. “I had to scrape her brains off every surface of my guest room, all my children are now gone, I couldn’t save any of them, what kind of father can’t protect his children?” Bobby looked up to where Bradley had been standing to find that he at some point had run off. Bobby looked around the empty store and shrugged. Had he been a little overdramatic sure but he didn’t think he’d been that bad. With a smile plastered on his face, he went back to picking out the steaks for the weekend and hoped that would be the last time he would have to see Bradley.
…
The next morning Buck found himself running late for his shift. Chris insisted on watching a movie with everyone the night before but fell asleep not 15 minutes into the film despite insisting to Eddie that he was not sleepy at all. Eddie carried Chris to bed and decided that since the movie had started you might as well watch it. It was one of your and Chris's favourites. Eddie was sick of watching the movie on repeat and Buck had somehow had the blessing of not being subject to FernGully until now. After the movie, Buck drove you home. This meant he didn’t get home until almost 11 pm and he had to be at the station at 7 am. Bradley had spotted Buck on his drive home and decided to camp out the front of Buck's apartment building for the night. When Buck stumbled out the front door in a rushed mess the next morning Bradley was there to greet him.
“I’m not here to start a fight, I just need answers” He held his hands up in defence.
“What the hell do you need answers for?” If looks could kill Bradley would be dead with how Buck looked at him.
“I just want to know if y/n is dead” Bradley moved further back from Buck out of fear of getting hit.
“Dead” Buck yelled and got so close to Bradley that their chests were almost touching “Why do think it’s any of your business to know what’s happening with y/n?”
“I just heard rumours and wanted to know” Bradley flinched away from Buck.
“You wanted to know? You wanted to know?” Buck looked away and scoffed “Yes she’s dead alright, she killed herself, you have no idea what it’s like to be called out to a scene where someone you love has killed themselves, to see their blood all over and know that nothing you can do will save them. To see them choking on their blood as it spills out of their open throat”
Bradley had gone pale, so pale that Buck thought he was going to faint. For a split moment, Buck felt bad, made be he had been too harsh and taken things too far. Bradley quickly crossed back across the road to his car and took off before any more words could be exchanged. Buck shrugged and quickly made his way to work running even more late now. But that was normal for Buck so he knew no one would question him and he wouldn’t have to tell anyone about running into Bradley.
…
Finally, Saturday rolled around 2 days later. You had been kept busy all morning by Athena who had you help put out her good wine glasses, set the table for lunch, and do other small tasks. Eddie, Christopher and Buck had shown up around 10 am because Chris was too impatient and excited to hang out with his favourite person. You were so distracted with Chris that before you knew it, the rest of the 118 had arrived. Bobby and Buck were manning the BBQ, Chris was off playing with Danny and Mara, Hen, Chimney, Ravi, Karen and Maddie were busy talking among themselves. Athena was busy drifting around the kitchen while Eddie stood outside next to you watching the kids play.
“I’m glad you left him” Eddie broke the silence.
“Me too” You smiled up at him “Thank you for knocking some sense into me”.
“Okay everyone lunch is ready!” Bobby called bringing a tray of meat into the dining room.
Everyone sat around the table. Athena had set the kids up at their table out in the yard which made them think they were the coolest kids ever. She even gave them their plastic wine glasses to drink juice from. You were in the middle of one of the greatest lunches you’d ever had when there was an overly aggressive knock on the door. Before Athena or Bobby could move to answer the door someone yelled through the front door.
“I know you're all in there, I want answers and I want them now!” Bradley screamed through the door.
“What in the world?” Athena looked towards the landing where the front door was.
“What’s he doing here?” Buck looked around the table.
“I guess this means the plan didn’t work” Chimney looked between everyone.
“What plan?” Athena looked at Chimney.
“Uh, well, uh, Bobby do you want to explain it” Chimney looked to Bobby.
“You brought it up” Bobby motioned back to Athena.
“What plan?” Athena stood up, crossed her arms and started tapping her foot.
The 118 shared panicked glances while you, Maddie and Karen looked around the table confused.
“Robert Wade Nash you better start speaking or so help me god you’ll be sleeping at the firehouse tonight” Athena levelled her attention on Bobby.
“We might have told him y/n was dead” Bobby said
“Dead” Athena looked around the table “After I told you not to tell him that you went and did it anyway”
“Well in all fairness Athena I was the one who told him she was dead” Buck admitted looking at his plate.
“You? No, I told him” Chimney jumped in.
“Wait but I told him she was dead like a week ago” Hen added. “Oh god what have we done”
“One at a time, how did you all say she died” Athena asked the table.
“Slit her wrists,” Chimney said
“Hit and Run,” Ravi said
“Car accident,” Hen said
“Shot herself with your gun,” Bobby said
“Slit her throat,” Buck said
“Same as Bobby,” Eddie said
You, Maddie and Karen, were trying to hold it together despite all having a bad case of the giggles. Athena was done with the entire 118 at this point and it was clear from the look on Bobbys face he was already trying to decide who would let him crash on their lounge tonight.
“If you weren’t going to listen couldn’t you all have at least agreed on how she died” Athena sighed.
“I’ll go deal with” Bobby went to stand up.
“No you’ve done enough damage” Athena left the table.
Athena went to open the door while everyone else quietly got up from the table and came to peak around the corner. Bradley was still furiously banging on the door when Athena answered it.
“What do you want?” Athena asked angrily.
“I need the truth, I’ve been told so many different things over the last week,” Bradley said “Tell me the truth and I’ll leave you alone”
“Yes y/n is dead, yes she killed herself with my gun, no we haven’t told everyone, now if you don’t mind we’re currently having her wake” Athena crossed her arms.
“I’m so sorry” Bradley quickly turned on his heels and ran off up the driveway out of sight.
Athena took a deep breath and closed the door.
“When I turn around you all best be at that table eating”

Athena Grant let out a heavy sigh as she finally pulled into the driveway of her house, the hum of the engine echoing in the still night. Night had long since fallen, and the fatigue she felt, digging deep into her muscles, was not only physical, but mental as well. The case she had been working on had taken her hours and drained all her energy. An armed robbery, panicked witnesses, and a chase that seemed never-ending - it was one of those days when her work consumed her completely. The responsibility of protecting lives and bringing them home safely weighed heavily on her.
The adrenaline that had been pumping through her veins was still palpable, but the moment she opened the front door and took the first step into the house, she felt a different kind of unease as a queasy feeling overcame her and her stomach clenched.
The room was bathed in a soft, warm light. Candles were all over the living room, their flickering light reflecting off the shiny surfaces of the furniture. Her gaze wandered further, and as she looked at the lovingly set dining table, a thought suddenly flashed through her mind.
The anniversary. She had completely forgotten about it.
Her heart stopped for a moment, and a wave of guilt hit her with full force. You had gone through the trouble of preparing a romantic dinner. A bouquet of red roses in the center, fine dishes, a bottle of red wine sparkling in the candlelight, and the scent of freshly cooked food floating in the air - a spicy aroma that she usually found soothing, but now felt like a sharp stab in her heart. It was obvious how much effort you had made, and Athena felt as if she had lost the air to breathe.
Her throat tightened, and she had to blink to hold back the rising anger at herself. Athena stopped dead in her tracks when she saw you coming out of the kitchen. You both looked at each other, and there was unmistakable remorse in Athena's eyes. She expected a look of disappointment or even sadness, but all she saw was gentleness and warmth.
You smiled gently, if a little tired, and your lips formed a quiet "Hey."
She opened her mouth to say something, but her words got stuck in her throat. She could see how much love and devotion went into every detail. "I... I forgot," she finally stammered, her voice rough and brittle as she turned her head slightly to the side. She took a step closer, now able to smell the smell of the food and the roses more clearly. "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to forget it."
You walked slowly towards her, your eyes soft and understanding, although there was a hint of pain in them. But instead of blaming her, you lifted her chin with two fingers so that your eyes met again. "It's okay," you whispered, your voice radiating warmth as you gently stroked Athena's cheek with your thumb. "I know you've had a hard day. I know how much you sacrifice. And I know you love me - and that's what matters."
Athena felt her heart clench, but not out of pain, but out of relief. The gesture, as small as it was, felt like a gentle embrace of her heart. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, trying to swallow the guilt and pain. "I should have remembered," she murmured, placing her hand on yours, which was still resting on her cheek. "This day is special for you, and instead..."
You shook your head slightly and pulled Athena closer to you, put your arms around her and held her tight as if you never wanted to let her go again. "'thena, it's okay. This day is important to me but I also know how important your work is to you."
She could feel your gentle heartbeat against her own chest, a rhythm that had a calming and stabilizing effect on her. She closed her eyes and leaned your head on her shoulder, feeling the warmth and familiarity that she always valued so much. Your arms around her felt like a safe haven, a place where she could just be herself - without the pressure and responsibility that so often burdened her.
"How can you be so understanding?" she whispered in your ear as she placed her hands on your waist and pulled you immediately closer. The warmth of your bodies, so close together, began to drive the tension of the day from Athena's limbs.
"Because I know you," you answered softly, running your fingers through her hair, letting her feel that every touch was full of affection. "And I know that we don't have to be perfect. It's not about making a day perfect. It's about being there for each other, even on the most chaotic days."
Athena pulled back for a moment and looked deep into your eyes. Her own shone with gratitude and love. "You are the best thing that has ever happened to me," she said quietly, her voice sounding gentle and honest. "I will try to show you that more often."
She lowered her head and gently touched your forehead with her lips while her fingers gently glided over your arms, gentle touches that seemed like a quiet promise. "I wish I had realized earlier how perfect you are in my eyes," she said more quietly, almost whispering. "My thoughts should have been with you instead of letting everything else take over."
You smiled gently, your eyes sparkling in the candlelight. "It's not too late. The evening is still young," you said and took her hand to lead her to the dining table. "Then let's enjoy the evening now. It's not too late to create a beautiful moment."
Athena sat down, her fingers still tightly entwined with yours. The wine tasted velvety on her tongue, and the food filled her stomach with love. As you ate together, the tension slowly released from Athena's shoulders. Every smile, every gentle look and every touch made her relax more and more. The warmth that flooded through her was like a reminder that the essence of your relationship was not defined by perfect moments, but by the connection you shared.
After dinner was over, you stood up, a wide grin playing on your lips. "Come with me," you said and led Athena into the bathroom, your hands tightly clasped together. The bathroom was already enveloped in a romantic, dreamlike atmosphere. Here, too, there were candles everywhere, the flames reflected on the walls while rose petals floated on the surface of the water. The scent of roses was in the air and mixed with the aroma of essential oils that permeated the water.
Athena looked around and her eyes widened. She could hardly believe how much effort you had put into making this evening special. "You prepared all this for me?" she asked, her voice almost toneless with emotion. Her gaze slid over the arrangement, the loving details. She felt her cheeks getting hot, not only from the steam, but also from the charged moment.
You nodded and she pulled you gently towards her. Your lips found each other in a kiss that was gentle and intense at the same time. You closed your eyes, let yourself fall into this moment and felt a hot wave of desire rising within you. The touch of her lips, the tenderness with which she kissed your lips, made your pulse race.
Slowly, as if she wanted to enjoy every second, she let her lips wander lower - from your jaw down to your neck. You tilted your head back, enjoying the tingling that spread across your skin. You couldn't help but let out a soft, pleasurable sigh. "You're driving me crazy," she whispered into your skin, her voice trembling slightly with desire as her hands snuggled around your hips and slowly moved upwards.
"That's the plan," you replied with a seductive smile before she placed her lips on your neck again and the kisses became deeper and more demanding. You could feel the heat building between you, the way your heart beat faster, the way her fingers ran along your back and clung to the fabric of your shirt. For a moment you were just two people, united in your love and the moment.
You pulled away from her and stepped behind her, gently placing your hands on her shoulders and began to let your fingertips glide in light circles over Athena's neck. "I wanted you to relax," you whispered, letting your lips now brush along her neck. The kisses were gentle, but they raised goosebumps, as if every single spark was dancing between you. "And I wanted us to have a moment all to ourselves."
Athena closed her eyes, enjoying the gentle touch, the feeling of your closeness, the warmth that emanated from your bodies. "You always know exactly what I need," she murmured as she leaned back further. Your hands wandered over her arms until they gently grasped her hips.
"Because I know you," you answered, and Athena felt the love that lay in your words. They were true. "And because I love you."
Slowly, with a deep intimacy that made her heart swell, you took off your clothes and slipped into the warm, fragrant water together. The rose petals lay gently on your skin as you snuggled up to each other. Her hands slid gently over your middle while yours gently stroked her thighs and she closed her eyes, lost in the feeling of the tender touches, the closeness and the warmth that enveloped her.
"You are my rock," she whispered as she held you closer to her, her arms wrapped around you protectively. "Always," you whispered back, leaning your head to the side to kiss her lips again. "You are everything to me."
Your bodies, floating lightly in the water, melted into a deep embrace that expressed more than just tenderness - it was a sign of the love, trust and desire you both felt for each other. Athena felt safe, secure and desired. The heat that flowed through her was not just that of the warm water, but also the intense connection to you that she felt stronger with every kiss, every touch.
In that moment, enveloped in candlelight and roses, Athena knew that perfection was never the goal in your relationship. It was the unwavering, all-encompassing love that surprised her again and again, fulfilled her and carried her through every hard day.

comfort - a. grant
athena grant x fem!reader
summary: you struggle with the trauma of a near-death experience and find comfort in your wife's arms.
w/c: 1.4k
⚠️ tw: mention of guns, shooting, and near-death experience
The night felt suffocating. The weight of everything that had happened settled heavily in your chest, leaving you breathless and anxious, still reliving the moment. The shooting had been sudden, violent, and close — too close. You could still hear the echo of gunfire, the sound of metal on metal, and the moment when you thought it would be your last breath. Since then, everything felt off, like your skin was too tight, like every corner you turned had some sort of hidden danger.
You sat on the couch in the dark, the flicker of the television dancing across your face. But it wasn't enough to chase away the shadows that had begun to creep into your mind. Athena had been at work when it happened but she wasn't at the scene. You hadn't told her what happened yet, how your knees had buckled and your lungs seized up with the fear of death. You hadn't told her about the nightmares that now plagued you whenever you tried to sleep or the anxious trembling that seemed to never leave your hands.
You felt broken and you didn't want to burden her with it.
But Athena always knew.
From the moment she stepped into the house that evening, her sharp eyes caught the way you hunched your shoulders a little tighter than usual, the way you barely looked up from the television, as though the sounds and colors would provide enough distraction to keep the anxiety at bay. But there wasn't really any hiding from her.
She didn't say anything at first. She walked over and settled herself next to you, close enough that her arm brushed yours. The familiar scent of her — clean, a little smoky, and unmistakably Athena — gave you the smallest sliver of comfort. But you didn't move. Your heart beat too fast and you felt the exhaustion creeping up on you, threatening to spill over in a way that terrified you.
Athena let the silence linger. She was good at that, knowing when to press and when to give you space. But tonight, she could sense you needed her more than you were willing to admit. After a long, silent moment, she shifted closer and wrapped her arm around your shoulder, pulling you gently against her side, her arm rubbing up and down your arm comfortingly.
"I know something's been going on with you," Athena's voice was low and soothing yet firm. The kind of tone she used when she needed to let you know she wasn't going to let this slide anymore. "You've been distant, and I can see that something is obviously bothering you. Talk to me, darling."
The knot in your throat tightened. You didn't want to break, not now, not in front of her. But it had been building for days, maybe even weeks and her words were too much. A tremor shook through you and before you could stop it, the tears welled up, no matter how hard you tried not to cry. You hated this. Hated feeling weak, hated feeling vulnerable, hated being afraid.
"I... I almost died," you finally whispered, the words spilling out between shallow breaths. Your voice was quiet, barely audible, but Athena heard every word. "There was a shooting, and I- I couldn't breathe, I couldn't move. I was so scared."
Her grip on you tightened instantly, her hand moving to rub soothing circles on your back. "Shit," she muttered under her breath, her jaw tight. "Why didn't you tell me?"
You sniffled, wiping at your eyes in frustration. "I didn't want to worry you. You already have so much on your plate with work, and I just… I didn't want to be a burden."
Athena's eyes softened and she turned your face toward hers, gently cupping your cheek. Her thumb brushed away a tear, and she shook her head. "You're never a burden to me. Never." Her voice made something in you crack. "I'm your wife. We're supposed to carry this stuff together, not alone. You don't have to go through this by yourself."
You leaned into her touch, the weight of her words settling deep inside you. But the fear, the anxiety, still lingered just beneath the surface. "I just… I keep hearing the gunshots, over and over, and I feel like I can't breathe sometimes. Like something bad is always about to happen."
Athena's brow furrowed in concern, but she stayed calm. She always did, even when everything else was falling apart. "You're safe now. I promise you that. And I'm going to do everything in my power to make sure you feel that way."
Her words were like a balm, soothing some of the storm inside you. She shifted again, this time pulling you fully into her arms, cradling you against her chest. You melted into her, pressing your face into the crook of her neck as she held you tightly, protectively. It was as though she was shielding you from the world itself.
"You don't have to be strong all the time," she whispered into your hair. "You don't have to hold it all in. I'm here. I've got you."
Your fingers curled into her shirt as you let out a shaky breath, the first real breath you'd taken all night. The tension in your body slowly began to unwind as you listened to the steady beat of her heart beneath your ear. Athena's hand continued to rub your back, her touch grounding you in a way that no amount of distraction or avoidance could.
"You know what I love most about you?" she murmured, her voice soft but steady. "It's that you're brave. Even when you don't feel like it, even when you're scared out of your mind, you face it. You've always been brave, and that's not going to change."
You squeezed your eyes shut, the lump in your throat returning, but this time it wasn't from fear. It was from the overwhelming love you felt for your wife, for her support and her fierce protectiveness. You didn't have to be strong with her, not when she was willing to carry some of the weight for you.
"I don't feel brave," you admitted, your voice barely a whisper.
Athena leaned back slightly, just enough to tilt your chin up so you could meet her eyes. "That's because you're human," she said softly. "We all get scared. But what matters is you didn't let it break you. You're still here. And you've got me by your side."
You had been running — trying to outrun the fear and the trauma — but now, wrapped in Athena's arms, you realized you didn't have to run anymore.
"I'm scared," you whispered, feeling the vulnerability in those words, but also the relief in finally admitting it.
Athena pressed a gentle kiss to your forehead, her lips lingering there for a moment. "I know, baby. But you're not alone. I'm right here, and I'm not going anywhere. We're going to get through this together."
And you truly believed her.
The weight in your chest didn't disappear completely, but it lightened. The anxiety was still there in the back of your mind but it was quieter now, less overwhelming. You curled up closer to Athena and in this moment, in her arms, you felt safe, even when the outside world felt uncertain.
Athena held you for what felt like hours, neither of you speaking much, just being in each other's presence. Every now and then, she would whisper soft reassurances, promising to always protect you.
Eventually, the exhaustion caught up to you, your body and mind finally giving in to the safety of her embrace. You let yourself relax completely, your head resting against her chest as your breathing slowed. Athena's fingers gently combed through your hair, her touch lulling you into a peaceful state you hadn't felt in what seemed like forever.
"I love you," you murmured, your voice barely audible as sleep began to take over.
Athena smiled against your hair, her arms tightening around you. "I love you too. Always." And with those words, you drifted off, curled up in the safest place you'd ever known.

The rising sun shining through the windows made for a peaceful atmosphere. You basked in the gentle heat as you walked around the kitchen, gathering what you needed to make your daily cup of morning coffee. Waiting for it to brew, you bent over the counter, set your head in your hands, and watched as the dust settled around the house. The quiet, aside from the soft trickle of coffee, allowed you to hear the chirping of faraway birds.
As you got lost in your tranquil thoughts, you failed to notice the light footsteps that trekked across the floor. Before you could process it, hands were wrapping around your waist, causing you to stand up straight in surprise.
You look back and a gentle smile graces your face. Athena’s bedhead was evident (it seemed that her scarf had fallen off in the middle of the night yet again), there was crust in the corner of her eyes, and her eyes seemed to be a second away from drooping back closed. Yet, she was still the most beautiful soul you ever met.
Her tangled hair was the same mane you ran your fingers through whenever she was stressed or tired and just needed that final push to fall into slumber. Those were the same eyes you gazed into whenever you just needed a little reassurance. The same eyes that would flutter closed anytime you noticed a stray eyelash on her cheek and just had to wipe it away.
“Hi,” you whispered to her, not wanting to break the delicate environment.
Athena let out a gentle hum and nuzzled into your shoulder. Despite her reputation as a tough woman, she was the clingiest person you knew--especially in the mornings as she was still waking up.
The two of you stood there for a moment, basking in each other’s presence, knowing that sooner rather than later, your jobs would tear you away.
The shrill beep of the coffee machine broke you both out of your love-induced haze. Your lover reluctantly pulled away, knowing that caffeine was needed for her to function. As you poured the liquid into two mugs, she grabbed the creamer from the fridge and some spoons.
Athena then poured it into both cups, remembering just how much you liked in yours as you set the coffee pot back down.
The woman slid the mug towards you, “One cup of coffee for you, my love--just the way you like it.”
You smiled at her in thanks, before taking a sip of the drink, humming in delight as the warmness slipped down your throat and into your stomach.
You both stood next to each other, leaning against the counter, drinking your coffee, trying to wake up and prepare for the long day ahead. You and Athena had decided a while ago to wake up just the slightest bit earlier on work days, wanting to experience a little more time together. With your schedule as a doctor and hers as a police officer, hours were unpredictable and you wanted to take advantage of every second you had.
You wound up finishing up your morning cup before Athena did (she always did tend to be a little slower than you when it came to drinking). Giving her a peck on the forehead, you went back towards your shared room and laid clothes out for the both of you. You then went to the bathroom, hopping in the shower, knowing that someone would be joining you.
Sure enough, you heard the curtain slide open and felt hands wandering around your back no less than five minutes later. If there was one thing that motivated Athena to move faster, it was the prospect of being close and personal with you.
The two of you moved at a moderate pace, mindful of the fact that you couldn’t linger long with extensive work shifts ahead (it took much self-discipline from each of you). She washed your back and you washed hers. You rinsed off any soap she missed and she bent down to wash your lower legs, recalling that you were complaining about a sore back the night previous.
You helped each other dry off and moisturize before heading back to the room and finally getting ready. If anyone asked you, this was the hardest part of the day. Not getting through twenty-four-hour shifts or having to eat cafeteria food because you forgot your lunch at home. No--the hardest part was the building anticipation of leaving your lover. It was the counting down of the last few minutes you had together in the morning and knowing that she wouldn’t be by your side for the rest of the day. It was the minute cracking of your heart as you watched her put the uniform on, knowing that you’d be yearning for her simple essence for hours.
But for the sake of your relationship and your well-being, you ignored it. Because she was the one you’d eventually be coming home to, no matter how long it took. And that simple fact was enough comfort for you.
So with a final passionate kiss, the two of you broke apart and headed to your separate vehicles with one thought in mind--
I’ll see you later.
-
2
“Two waffles with light maple syrup, just how you like it,” Athena says, placing the plate on the table in front of where you were sitting, and planting a kiss on your forehead afterward.
You were both finally out of rotation at work and the days happened to line up. It didn’t hurt that it was a Saturday either.
Your lover insisted on making breakfast for the two of you, saying that it was her turn to treat you anyway.
Athena sat down across from you with her own breakfast. She possessed her own plate of pancakes (she knew you enjoyed waffles better—it warmed your heart every time she made them for you), along with a cup of tea (“I don’t need extra caffeine today,” she said).
The process of multitasking was never difficult for either of you—it was evident as you both shared work gossip stories with each other while taking occasional bites of food. You complained about how one of your coworkers was so disrespectful towards nurses and in turn, Athena rolled her eyes just thinking about the new cocky officer who joined the squad a month or so back.
You offered to (forced her to let you) do the dishes while your lover started cleaning the house. It was an accidental routine the two of you created—you clean the house then relax for the rest of the day.
After well over two hours worth of Pandora’s R&B playlist, you finally finished cleaning (dancing with each other). Plopping down on the couch, you watch Athena put the vacuum back in the hall closet. The television had already been changed to a movie that you both had been meaning to watch together by the time she came to settle on the couch.
Even after watching the film many times with each other, you both watched with rapt attention. That didn’t stop either of you from stealing glances at the other when you thought they weren’t looking.
When a weight suddenly dropped onto her shoulder, Athena looked down and saw you sound asleep. With as hard as you had been working recently, she knew it was only a matter of time before you crashed. With a kiss on your forehead, she pulled the throw blanket over your legs and continued watching the TV, her arm never leaving your shoulders.
-
3
“Three days off? This is amazing,” Athena gently exclaims softly, cupping your cheeks and pulling you into a loving kiss. She pulled back and had that large smile on her face that made her eyes squint
“I know, right? Boss said I had been working hard and told me to use some vacation days,” you replied, plopping onto the couch next to her and throwing your arm across her shoulders.
Athena, too, had told you that you were working too hard. It seemed that every time you came home these past few weeks, there were new bags underneath your eyes. She could see the stress of the hospital coming off you and, call her crazy if you want, smell the atmosphere of the place on you.
“Figured we could maybe have a stay-cation. Relax all day and do absolutely nothing,” you suggested, staring into your lover's eyes, attempting to convince her (not that it would be hard to do so).
“That sounds wonderful,” she replied, stroking your other affectionately. “You know, Harry’ll be at Michael’s for the next week…we’ll have the house all to ourselves.”
With a small grin, you don’t hesitate to lean in closer and give her a passionate kiss.
“I like the way you think.”
-
-1
Athena woke up to rushed shuffling and a groan coming from across the bedroom. Displeasure immediately shot through her as the sleep had been much needed--you really tuckered her out. She opens her puffy eyes to find you running around like a chicken with its head cut off. You must spot her open eyes because the next thing she knows, you’re making your way over to her and pressing a kiss against her forehead.
“Turns out they can’t survive long without me,” you explain in a hushed voice. It’s the early morning of what would’ve been your third and last day off. “They need me for some emergency surgery. Said it wouldn’t be long and I could get the rest of today and tomorrow off as compensation.”
You grab one last thing and begin to walk out of the room before she calls out a bleary, “Wait.”
“Yeah?” you ask, standing in the doorway. In response, she waves you over with her hand.
Once you reach her, Athena pulls you down and plants a lingering kiss on your lips.
“I love you,” she whispers with as much passion as her morning voice and still-asleep mind can allow her.
“I love you more,” you say with a smile.
“I love you most.”
“Impossible,” you reply with one last peck. “I’ll see you later,” is what’s said as you reluctantly part and head out of the house.
Athena listens as your car roars to life and to you pulling out the driveway and speeding off. As she settles in the bed once again, though, she can’t find herself able to drift back off to sleep.
~
Athena was never a woman to get too into her head--it was something she prided herself on. She tended to look at situations with a clear mind and it always benefited her greatly. Now, however, that level-headedness was nowhere to be found.
The sergeant knows how long surgeries can take especially if they had been emergencies. Even the planned ones are unpredictable. That fact, however, doesn’t keep her from looking at her phone every 30 seconds, checking the time, and hoping to get some word from you. You left far before the sun rose this morning and here it was, a few hours before it was due to set.
She wants to call but tries to refrain from doing so. The last time she rang you during surgery, someone else picked up--least to say it was awkward and slightly embarrassing (an emotion Athena doesn’t experience often but detests when she does). Her worry eventually outways her hate as she picks up her cell phone and begins to scroll through her contacts. However, before she can press the call button, your name pops up, indicating you were trying to reach her.
A sigh of relief flows out of her as she accepts the call but her next breath gets caught in her throat as she hears the voice across the line. “Athena.”
“Hen?”
-
The drive to the hospital was a blur. There were distant hopes in the back of her mind of not being pulled over because even in her haze, she was sure of her speeding.
When she finally parks (her car is painfully crooked and hardly between the lines) she rushes inside the building that holds a lingering sense of chaos. The person on the phone, who her barely functioning mind recognized as Hen, said you had been involved in an accident on the expressway. The paramedic didn’t give much detail over the phone but Athena could see the mark the crash left on the nurses and doctors on shift.
Making her way over to the desk, she wills herself to make words come out of her mouth, even though it feels impossible to do so.
“Athena,” Hen called out, becoming her saving grace.
The woman quickly turned and approached her friend, hands gripping her bag to their trembling.
“What…what happened? I…” she could hardly get her words out. Never in her life had Athena felt so frazzled--so scared.
Henrietta placed a hand on her back and gently guided her over to the waiting room, where the rest of the 118 crew was seated. She slowly took a seat against the wall, not wanting to miss your doctor coming out to give updates.
“There was a crash,” her friend says, reiterating what she already knew. “y/n’s side of the car was hit. Reckless, speeding driver hit her and drove off.” She gave few words, knowing how little Athena could process right now. “She’s getting checked out right now, but she was stable when we left her.”
Stable. That was something Athena could handle right now. She knew your condition could change at any given moment but she had to focus on the positive. Right?
-
She wasn’t sure how long she ended up waiting. Everyone else had to return to the station for duty. She can vaguely remember their goodbyes and condolences.
A doctor eventually calls out your name and once given her relation to you, describes your condition. She hears something about broken ribs and resetting bones but Athena doesn’t have enough energy to think about that right now. The only thing on her mind is seeing you and she’s quick to follow behind the nurse who was leading her to your room.
It’s apparent you’re groggy--the high dosage of pain medicine had already kicked in. The nurse gives the usual run down--press the button if you need anything, visiting hours--all things that Athena couldn’t care less about at the moment.
Once she hears the door close behind her, the sergeant makes her way to the chair conveniently placed beside your bed. As she sits she grabs your hand gently, eyes roaming across the casts wrapped around your other arm and left leg.
“Hi,” she carefully whispers. She wondered if you had a headache. Did you have a concussion (maybe she should’ve been listening)?
“Hi, my love,” you drowsily reply. “‘M sorry…I was late-”
“No, no, none of that” she cuts you off, scooting closer to you. She places a hand on your forehead and rubs your hair back, you leaning into her touch. “Nothing to apologize for.”
She watches as your eyes flutter and you mumble something that she can’t make out. “Get some rest,” she softly commands. “I’ll be here when you wake up, holding your hand.”
“You promise?”
Athena’s heart breaks at the raw, vulnerable look in your eyes. Fear shone through and she squeezed your hand a little tighter in response.
“I promise.”

Athena grant x Autistic!reader - only person
Hiiii i was just wondering if you could do an Athena x Autistic reader where the reader is like her daughter and needs help to calm down ? - Anon💜
Athena was doing her rounds when she got the call to come back to the station immediately and she wasted no time in rushing back.
Jumping out of her car, she ran over to the doors and was greeted by an officer who was looking around frantically.
“Sergeant Grant!?” He rushed out.
“Yes! What is it?”
He gestured for her to follow him and they ran down the hallways and she realised what was going on and she pushed past him.
She ran to your desk and grabbed your chair, spinning it to face her.
“(Y/N)? (Y/N) look at me!”
Your breathing was ragged, and you were shaking your head, hands clasped over your ears as you lightly hit your head.
Athena reached out, taking your hands in hers and laced her fingers with hers and you looked at her.
“Hey sweetie..” she whispered.
You breathed heavily, stilling moving your hands slightly in his and she stood up, pulling you up with her.
You wordlessly followed her back to her car and she sat you down in the passenger seat and you looked around outside.
“Bet it’s a lot nicer out here.” She smiled.
You gave a small nod, your hand still holding hers tightly.
“You just sit here for as long as you need got it? I don’t care what anyone else says, you take as long as you need to.”
You nodded again and tapped your hand against the back of her hand and she leant against the car door with a smile.
“You just having a bad day?”
You nodded your head and looked up at her, taking both of her hands to lace her fingers with your own as you looked around.
Athena let you, just holding your hands.
She had done this loads of times, she was the only person who could calm you down so quickly, so even if they didn’t know her people knew to call her.
She seemed to have a soothing affect on you.
You looked at Athena, standing up and wrapped your arms around her and she happily hugged you back.
“Aw you know I love your hugs (Y/N).” She laughed.
“You give warm hugs.” You whispered.
She smiled.
“Well I’m glad I do.” She chuckled.
She moved you both side to side and you smiled as you copied her movements.
“Have you had lunch?” She asked.
“No.”
“Well get in, let’s go to your favourite place, get you some food and go for a drive.”
“Okay!”
You jumped back into the car and Athena smiled as she closed your door and walked to the drivers side to get in.
Athena had her own kids, but the moment she met you she felt the need to protect you, look after you and care for you and she had quickly become a parental figure for you.
You were like a daughter to her, you were funny and happy, and sometimes you had hard days, but she knew exactly how to calm you down

Collision
TW/CW: Car accident, injuries.
Pairing: Evan Buckley x Diaz!Reader
You smiled to yourself as you walked beside Christopher, your nephew. You had watched him in the morning while your brother was working, and Carla was attending an appointment. You didn’t mind though, you absolutely adored him, and he enjoyed spending time with you.
You had an hour to kill before dropping him off to Carla, and heading off to work yourself, so you decided to swing by the station to have lunch with the team. It was quiet when you arrived, indicating the team were on a call. You took it upon yourself to make lunch for everybody, knowing it would be a relief to them when they got back. Chris was sat at the table on his tablet, in a world of his own, allowing you to focus on the food. You couldn’t help but smile to yourself as the sound of the shutters opening filled the station followed by heavy boots thudding against the floor as each firefighter jumped out of the truck. The footsteps got closer, the faint smell of smoke mixed with a familiar aftershave filled your nostrils and you instinctively lean back into the body that is now behind you as arms snake around your waist. “Isn’t this a nice surprise?”
You turn towards the voice, and smile, “Apparently, I can’t seem to stay away.” You lean up to kiss Buck, causing Chris to pull a disgusted face. This seemed to amuse Buck, and he kissed you again. Eddie appeared in the kitchen, and made his way over to his son, visibly happy to see him. “Come on guys, get a room.” You rolled your eyes playfully at your brothers comment, and pulled away from Buck.
You dished up the food for the team and took a seat, eager to hear about the call they had just been on. You listened intently as you ate, your complete focus on Buck as he spoke passionately about the call. Your heart warmed as you watched his face light up, he loved how much you genuinely enjoyed hearing about the calls, and how his day had gone. Chimney was the next to speak up, “It was a good call, except the part where Buck was playing hero and nearly got himself killed.” Bucks eyes widened and he turned to look at Chimney, giving him a look that immediately stopped him talking. Chimney, trying to help, began speaking again, “Don’t worry, it’s nothing out of the ordinary. It wasn’t any more dangerous than a simple call, the risk is always there. Besides, it was probably one of the safer times Buck tried to save the day, you should’ve seen him on the call last week.”
“Chim, stop talking.” Buck, who was now visibly on the spot, turned to face you. He studied your face, working out how to approach this. He opened his mouth to reassure you, but you beat him to it, “I thought we spoke about this…” Buck knew you understood that no day was guaranteed, and that saving people on calls was something he would always try to do, even if it put him at risk. He also knew that he had a habit of jumping the gun and putting himself in dangerous situations without thinking it through. “I’m sorry…”
You checked your watch, and stood up. “I just wish you’d be more careful, Buck.” Chris stood up and hugged Eddie goodbye, and you did the same. “Later bro.” You said goodbye to the team and walked back to the car with Chris by your side. The breeze hit you, and you took a deep breath. Maybe you were overreacting, maybe not but you just needed a moment. You helped Chris into the car and got in yourself, turning on the radio. The short ride to Carlas mostly consisted of Chris laughing as you sang along to the music, and the occasional conversation when Chris wasn’t overly engrossed in his phone. Carla was there to greet you when you pulled up on her drive, Chris was extremely excited and practically jumped out of the car to hug her. Carla gave you a hug, “Y/N, it’s so good to see you!” You smiled and hugged back, “It’s been a while, huh? Life has been hectic.” Carla laughs at this, “You’re telling me, your brother told me all about you and Buck. Moving in together? That’s a big step!”
“We were practically living together anyway, and if I’m being honest, Eddie is probably just relieved to have his couch back. I was starting to get on his nerves.” You explained to Carla, and she chuckled. “Well, I wish you all the best. I’m gonna get Chris inside, and I’ll let you run off to work. It was lovely seeing you.” You hug Chris goodbye and bid farewell to Carla before getting into your car and beginning your journey to your place of work. In front of you, the amber light turned to red and you stopped. You could see that traffic was beginning to build up on the other side of the junction, and you didn’t want to be late. You sighed, and made the decision to take an alternate route, so when the light turned green, you indicated and pulled out to begin taking your turning. You let out a sudden gasp before you could even properly register the car coming towards you. All you could do was attempt to brace for the impact, and so you did.
A loud crunching sound surrounded you, followed by the feeling of being thrown as your car was barrelled into. You closed your eyes tightly, scared of what was next. You didn’t have the courage to open them again until the car steadied. The first thing you could see was the airbag in front of you, despite not feeling it deploy moments before. You could smell the burning of the tyres, outside of the car, you could hear the panicked voices of bystanders, but all you could focus on was the blood that was now spread across your arms, unsure of where it was actually coming from. You weren’t in pain, at least you couldn’t feel any in that moment. Is that what shock feels like? You couldn’t think, but your eyes got heavy and you fought your hardest not to succumb to the darkness.
Back at the station, the call was only just coming in. The alarm blared throughout the station, alerting the team to the call. They were quick to jump into action, grabbing their gear and piling themselves into their assigned trucks. Eddie and Buck sat beside each other, speaking casually between themselves about what had happened earlier. “Just give her some time, she’ll come around. For her, two of the people she loves most are at risk everyday, you’ve gotta imagine it can’t be easy. It’s a risky job as it is, and when you put yourself into riskier situations without needing to, it decreases the chance of making it home at the end. She’s scared. Just talk to her.” Eddie attempted to reassure Buck, who was feeling terrible. He couldn’t shake the image of your face from his mind, the face that showed disappointment in his actions. Before Buck could respond, the truck halted and the team jumped out, ready to give help where needed. Buck stopped in his tracks as an all too familiar car was crushed before him. He tried not to panic, hoping that his suspicions were wrong. His eyes flicked to the number plate and his heart stopped. His feet were moving before his mind could catch up. He shouted your name, drawing Eddies attention. It took Eddie a few seconds to process what was happening. You had not long left the station, it couldn’t possibly be you. Right?
Buck arrived to your car first, nausea washed over him as he caught sight of your injured body. “Y/N? Hey, it’s me. I’m here.” You weren’t completely aware of what was happening, your eyes opened with a struggle. Your movements were weak as you turned your head to look at him. “Buck?” You spoke quietly, not completely aware of the situation at hand. “Don’t move, try and keep still.” He tried to remain as calm as he could, he didn’t want to scare you any more, he was terrified himself. Eddie ran right over to the car, his heart racing as he feared what he would find. His first instinct was to check the back seat, relief finally washing over him as he saw no sign of Christopher. Still, he needed to make sure, “Y/N, was Chris in the car?”
You shook your head, “Carlas.” Eddie felt a weight off his shoulders, knowing his son was safe. The weight soon came back when he saw the condition you were in. Your eyes rolled back, and you fell into unconsciousness. Bobby was running the scene, assigning Hen and Chim to medically assist you, and he grabbed the gear to support Buck and Eddie in freeing you from the car. Buck didn’t want to let go of your hand, but he knew he had to in order to get you out sooner. The team worked tirelessly, ensuring to be as careful as possible. Bobby handed the halligan to Buck, “Buck, you focus on getting the doors open. Diaz, grab the saw and be on standby.”
Buck groaned as he tried to pry the doors open, with no results, “Roofs too dented Cap, I can’t get it open.” Bobby nodded, and turned to Eddie, “Saws it is. Get in there Diaz, Buck, you too.” The roof was off in no time, Hen and Chim jumped straight in and equipped you with a neck brace, and got the back board in place to move you. Hen checked your vitals quickly, trying to make sure you were steady enough to be moved. “I’ve got a faint pulse, we gotta move.” They moved you out of you car quickly, and transferred you to the ambulance. “Trauma to the abdomen, possible internal bleeding. I’ll let the hospital know we’re en route.” Buck jumps into the back of the ambulance with Chimney, and instantly takes your hand in his. Hen places herself into the drivers seat, putting the ambulance into 911 mode and begins the journey as fast as she can to the nearest hospital.
Buck hated seeing you like this. He was filled with anxiety, the nausea constantly there as he studied your visible injuries. His heart sank with every second that went by, the more he thought about you laying there almost lifeless, expecting you to flatline any second now. “I’m sorry baby, we can’t leave things like this. I need you to get through this so I can apologise to you. I know I’m not the easiest person to love, and I also know that I’m the biggest pain in the ass, but I love you, and I need you. Please.” Buck sobbed as he held your hand tighter. Time seemed to be going extremely slow for Buck, yet moments later Hen was pulling up at the hospital. You were rushed in, Hen spewed all your information to the nurses as you were wheeled in and handed over. Buck, Hen and Chimney stood there as you were wheeled out of sight. One of the nurses stopped Buck from running after you, and he sat defeated in the waiting room. The rest of the team arrived soon after, Eddies face was similar to Bucks. Eddie spoke first, “Any update?” The lack of response from Buck had him on edge, fearing the worst. Luckily, Chimney filled the silence. “There’s no update, but no news it almost always good news.”
Eddie placed his hand on Bucks shoulder, giving it a reassuring squeeze before sitting down next to him. “How’re you holding up?” Buck didn’t look up, instead he kept his head in his hands. He couldn’t respond, he couldn’t trust his voice not to give out. His leg bounced anxiously, and despite not talking, his feelings were painfully obvious. Eddie could empathise, he knew exactly what was going through Bucks mind. It was happening to him too, but he concealed it as much as he could, knowing Buck needed him. “You know, each time we’re sat in these chairs, it never gets easier. You don’t have to talk, I get it. I think you should know that I’m right here for you, I understand. Y/N is going to be okay, that I have no doubt about. She’s my sister, and us Diaz’s, we don’t back down. We fight.” Eddie continues talking, and he’s not sure whether he’s trying to convince Buck or himself.
A few hours go by, and the team are waiting as patiently as they can for an update. Maddie had arrived some time ago, and was sat with Buck. She was not only there to support her brother, but also her brothers girlfriend, who Maddie had claimed as her best friend shortly after meeting her. Bobby hands a coffee to Buck and Eddie, who hadn’t moved from their seats since arriving. This changed moments later as a nurse approached, making them stand. Buck felt as if his legs were going to give way any second. The nurse cleared her throat, “She’s stable. She’s incredibly lucky to have made it out with the injuries she did, it could’ve been a lot worse. She’s awake, if you’d like to go see her.”
Buck didn’t stick around to hear whatever else the nurse had to say, he darted through the corridor until he got to your room. He stopped to take a deep breath, and stepped inside. He was scared to look at you, all he could picture was you covered in blood still. His head shot up as he heard a voice, your voice to be exact, “Buck?”
He was by your bedside in a blink of an eye, taking your hand in his. His eyes wandered over your body, taking in each of your injuries. His heart broke a little more with each one. He finally looked you in the eyes, and that’s when it hit him. His eyes filled up with tears, “Y/N…”
“Hey, don’t cry. I’m fine, see. I’m right here.” You gave his hand a squeeze, trying to give him the reassurance he needed. Buck took a seat close to your bed, your hand in his and against his lips. You move your hand up to his cheek and wipe his tears, Buck practically melted into your touch. “I really thought I had lost you.”
“I’m right here, I’m not going anywhere. I need to apologise for my reaction earlier, that could’ve been our last conversation earlier and left without saying goodbye, or telling you how much I love you.”
Buck shook his head, “You have nothing to apologise for, I’m the one that owes you an apology. I’m sorry that I’m not more careful when I’m out on a call, I shouldn’t be that reckless. I’m sorry that I can’t promise to walk through that door every night, safe and unscathed. I can appreciate how you feel now, and I promise I’ll try my hardest to be more careful. I love you, and I don’t want you ever feeling anything close to what I’ve felt today.” You wince as you sit up, making Buck panic. You push through the pain, and pull Buck to you. “Come here.” He stands from his chair and leans down to kiss you quickly. He carefully moves your hair from your face, ensuring he doesn’t touch any of your cuts or bruises.
“I love you too, and even though I’m petrified that you won’t make it home one day, I trust that you’ll try everything in your power to make sure you do. I’m proud of you, Evan.” As you spoke, Buck smiled to himself. A sense of relief washed over him. Before he could respond, you continued. “So… does this mean I can finally get a new car now?”
Buck chuckled, “You’re a pain in the ass, Diaz.”
“Takes one to know one, Buck.”

The morning sun cast a golden glow over the streets of Los Angeles as you and Athena Grant patrolled the streets in the patrol car. It was one of those rare days when the weather was perfect and the city seemed surprisingly quiet. Athena enjoyed the peace and your company. You had known each other for years and had been through countless missions together, which had led to a very deep friendship and tacit understanding between you.
"So, y/n," Athena began as they drove through the streets and she tapped the steering wheel to the soft melody of the radio. "Do you have any plans for the weekend yet?"
You laughed quietly and glanced at her sideways, your head leaning on your hand that was placed by the window. "Nothing concrete yet. I'm thinking about finally going to the cinema again. There's that new Marvel film and I thought I'd take Harry and May with me?"
Athena grinned. "But only if you take me with you? You know I can never say no to a nice day with the kids and you."
"Perfect, then that's a plan. I heard this movie is excellent and the animations are supposed to be awesome!" you nodded contentedly, your body shaking in the passenger seat with excitement. Athena could only shake her head, you were a total nerd when it came to the Marvel universe and even though she knew absolutely nothing about it, she loved hearing you talk about it.
The conversations between you flowed easily and effortlessly, switching from work to personal anecdotes and back. You teased each other and laughed about shared memories. Despite the many years in the service, you were still able to make Athena laugh and she appreciated your company more than she wanted to admit.
"Okay, last question," you said as you stopped at a traffic light, adjusting your sunglasses. "If you weren't a cop, what would you be doing?"
Athena thought for a moment and then answered casually, her gaze strictly focused on the traffic. "I'd probably open a café. I love coffee and I like helping people, so that would be the perfect combination."
You laughed out loud. "That honestly sounds like a dream. I would definitely be your regular customer." you said and shortly afterwards Athena drove the car into a parking lane in front of a bank. "I have to go in for a moment to sort out something personal. Are you coming with me?"
You nodded and got out of the car. You went into the bank together, where Athena went to the counter to take care of her affairs. You waited nearby and let your gaze wander around the banks. It seemed to be a completely normal morning - customers standing in line, employees working behind the counters and a general business atmosphere.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, three masked men burst into the bank, armed with assault weapons. A shrill scream broke the silence as one of the men fired the gun into the air. "Nobody move! This is a robbery!" one of the masked men yelled.
Athena exchanged a quick look with you and felt her body immediately tense as her training and experience took over. She knew this was an extremely dangerous situation and any wrong move could have disastrous consequences.
"Everyone on the floor!" one of the robbers ordered as the other two began to check the customers and employees.
You both obeyed and slowly lowered yourselves to the floor, your eyes always wandering between you and the robbers. Athena knew she would need a plan to defuse this situation, but for now you had to stay calm and wait for your chance.
One of the robbers went from person to person, collecting cell phones and carefully making sure that no one tried to set off an alarm or call the police. So far they hadn't noticed that two police officers were already in the bank. Athena watched the main man closely and noticed that he was nervous. His hands were shaking slightly and his chest was rising and falling quickly.
You, who had crawled towards Athena unnoticed, whispered almost imperceptibly. "We have to find a way to get the situation under control."
Athena nodded almost imperceptibly. "Wait for my instructions. We can't rush anything." she said and the minutes seemed to stretch on endlessly as the robbers continued to gain control of the bank. One of the men went to the vault while the other two kept an eye on the customers.
Athena felt her heart beating faster, but she forced herself to stay calm. She knew that every movement, every word could be decisive now. Her eyes wandered around the bank, looking for a possible opportunity to overpower the robbers.
"Hey, boss!" one of the robbers suddenly shouted, waiting until he got the larger man's attention before pointing the gun at Athena. "We have cops in the bank."
Athena remained calm as she slowly rose to her feet, her hands above her head. "Stay calm," Athena said in a firm and controlled voice.
The situation became chaotic in a matter of seconds. The robber, nervous and obviously mentally distressed, pulled a woman to her feet, a gun pointed strictly at her head while he screamed wildly. "No tricks, got it? You will shut up and try nothing, or you will be the first to lose your life. I'm not afraid of shooting fucking cops."
"Release the hostage and we can solve this peacefully," she spoke carefully and in a calm tone, but the robber didn't understand and continued to shout at her. "You don't understand! Nobody understands! I have nothing left to lose!"
The tension rose as the robber looked around wildly. Athena saw the gun start to shake in his sweaty hands and knew that the situation could escalate at any time and suddenly, the gun was no longer aimed at the woman, but directly at her.
You reacted instinctively. Without hesitation, you pushed yourself up from the ground and threw yourself in front of Athena. There was a loud bang - a shot had been fired. Then another shot, and for a moment time seemed to stand still. You felt the stabbing pain as the bullet hit you and you fell to the ground.
Athena's heart skipped a beat and she had to act quickly. When the robber was inattentive for a brief moment, Athena took the opportunity and ripped the gun from his hand. A fierce fight broke out while everyone else took cover. She managed to quickly overpower and arrest her opponent. You had shot the other in the shoulder from your position on the ground to give your partner cover.
When the two were handcuffed, Athena turned to the frightened bank customers and employees. "Reinforcements will be here soon. Everything will be fine. Please stay calm." she said and turned back to you. "Y/n!" she whispered as she knelt down. Blood seeped through your uniform and she knew it was serious. You weren't wearing a protective vest and the wounds on your upper and lower body looked serious.
While Athena desperately tried to stop the blood flow, the SWAT team ran in and overpowered the last robber, who went back into the main room of the bank. "Stay with me, y/n. You can't give up now."
You smiled weakly, your eyes filled with pain as you tried to take short breaths. "I... won't... 'thena."
Paramedics rushed in behind the SWAT team and began treating you. Athena didn't leave your side, her hands pressed tightly to your wounds as she continued to try to stop the blood loss. "We need to get her to the hospital immediately." one of the paramedics said as they placed you on a stretcher.
Athena followed the stretcher out and got into the ambulance. Her mind was racing and she couldn't hold back the tears. "Please, y/n, hold on."
ᕚ---ᕘ
The ambulance sped through the streets of Los Angeles, its sirens blaring and its lights flashing in frantic patterns. Athena held your hand tightly, her eyes full of worry and fear. Blood seeped through her fingers and dried on the sleeves of her police jacket. "Hold on, y/n," she whispered again, her voice shaking with emotion. "You can't give up now. Not after everything we've been through."
You weakly opened your eyes, briefly coming back from unconsciousness. "I'll try, Athena. For you."
When you reached the hospital, you were immediately greeted by a team of doctors and nurses and taken to an operating room. Athena was left alone in the lobby, hands smeared with your blood and shaking. All she could do was pray and hope that you would make it.
Hours passed in slow motion. Athena sat in a sterile waiting room, her thoughts racing. Memories of missions together, of conversations and of moments when you had saved her life flooded her mind. She couldn't imagine life without you. Not now, not ever.
Hours later, a doctor finally made his way to her. "She's stable," he said briefly, disinfecting his hands. "It was close. The bullet missed some important organs and arteries, but she lost a lot of blood. She'll make it, but it will take a while until she's fully recovered."
Tears of relief streamed down Athena's face. She knew she had almost lost someone who meant more to her than she ever wanted to admit. "Thank you," she whispered, unable to find more words. "Thank you for saving her."
The next few days were a test of patience and hope for Athena. She visited you regularly in the hospital, sat by your bed and held your hand. She spoke to you, even though you were often too weak to answer. But she knew you heard her, and that gave her strength.
One afternoon, when the sun shone warmly through the window of the hospital room, you awoke from a deep sleep. Athena sat by your side, quietly reading from a comic that Harry had brought for you. When she noticed that you were awake, she put the comic aside and smiled.
"Hey, you," she said gently. "How are you feeling?"
"Better now that you're here." You blinked and smiled weakly. Athena felt her heart beating faster. She had thought a lot over the last few days and had come to an important realization. She could no longer hide her feelings. It was time to tell you the truth.
"Y/n.." she began, her voice anxious and not what you were used to. "I have to tell you something. Something I've been feeling for a long time, but never had the courage to say it."
You looked at her carefully, your eyes full of curiosity and affection. "What is it, Athena?"
She took a deep breath and squeezed your hand tighter. "I... I love you, y/n. I always have, but I never admitted it to myself. But when I thought I might lose you, I realized how much you really mean to me. You are not only my best friend and partner, you are the person I can't imagine my life without."
Tears came to your eyes and you smiled. "Athena, I love you too. For so long. But I was always afraid that you wouldn't feel the same. That I could ruin our friendship."
Athena leaned forward and kissed your forehead gently. "Our friendship is strong enough to survive anything. And I'm ready to take a new path with you. Together."
Your smile grew wider and you pulled Athena closer to you with all your strength. "Then let's walk this path together, 'thena. No matter what happens, we will get through it together."
In the weeks and months that followed, you recovered slowly but steadily. Athena was always by your side, supporting you and encouraging you every step of the way. Your relationship deepened and you found comfort and strength in your love for each other.
One evening, as you sat together in the hospital garden and looked at the stars, you took Athena's hand and kissed it gently. "Thank you for being with me," you whispered. "You are my rock, Athena. With you by my side, I can do anything."
Athena smiled and leaned on your shoulder. "And you are my heart, y/n. Together we are unbeatable."
You knew that life would continue to hold challenges for them, but you were both ready to face them together. Your love was stronger than any danger, and you would always be there for each other, no matter what.

Buddie Masterlist
Summary: While Eddie and Evan are at work, (Y/n) takes their daughters to the park. But things get complicated when the girls are found on their own, and no one can find (Y/n). Or their baby.
Enjoy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Where's my baby?"
A grin worked its way onto Evan's face as he leaned over the end of the bed and cooed down at the nine month old wriggling around. He dropped the blanket he had been holding over Winnie and set it down on the side of the bed. Grinning wider when she kicked her legs up and gurgled with a bright smile that matched his own.
He moved his hands to her sides and tried to tickle her but as he quietly cooed "Baby," at her, he looked to the left.
A bare foot slipped out of the covers and dragged up and down his arm, sending shivers running beneath his skin. He looked up from Winnie to see Eddie groggily lift his head from the pillow with a tired smirk playing on his lips.
"Right here." Eddie mumbled, his voice thick was sleep and groggy but the dark undertone to his voice sent Evan's knees buckling.
He gave Eddie's ankle a light squeeze before Eddie dropped his foot back down.
Eddie slowly pushed up from the pillow and dragged a hand across his face, opening his eyes properly and drawing his fingertips down his jaw that was littered with stubble. His hand moved up to drag through his hair which had gone askew and tangled all across his forehead and had become stuck up in all directions, much like it did every other night.
A lazy smile drew across his lips when he looked at his partner and their youngest. He watched as Evan gently lifted Winnie up and settled her on his bare chest, letting her drool and babble into his shoulder while he moved to sit down in the middle of the bed.
He leaned back into Eddie's legs and looked over at him when Eddie sat up straighter and shuffled across to be closer to them both.
Reaching across, Eddie draped his arm around the back of Evan's shoulders and tucked his face into his neck. He loved the way Evan shivered when he felt Eddie's stubble scratch against the crook of his neck. Whereas Eddie could feel Evan's freshly shaved jaw nuzzle against his temple and the top of his head.
"You know we're both on shift today, right?" Evan muttered softly while he pressed a tender kiss against the top of Eddie's messy curls.
"Hm." He knew, he just didn't want to get up yet. Eddie wanted to stay right here were they were, tucked up together. Going into work meant having to leave the warmth and comfort of their bed. It meant leaving (Y/n) and Chris and their girls.
The only bright side was that Eddie would have Evan with him. They were professional when they were on shift, but just being in each other's company was calming enough. It meant Eddie could wrap an arm around his partner or kiss his temple or joke with him and make the day pass quicker.
And Eddie was quite the fan of pushing Evan into a quiet corner and stealing a kiss to get him all flustered. He enjoyed the quiet whines Evan would let out when Eddie left him high and dry and wound up when they had to go back to being professional on shift.
Eddie leaned back on his left hand that planted down into the mattress and his head tilted to one side as he watched Evan. He felt his heart adding in a few extra beats when Evan slowly leaned back until he was laid out in the middle of the bed with his head on Eddie's lap. And he lifted Winnie up in the air, cooeing and making 'wow' faces at her while he swayed her from side to side like she was a plane.
"Pretty baby," Eddie murmured, dragging his right hand through Evan's curls while he leaned forward and pressed a sloppy kiss to Winnie's cheek.
"Did you call us?" (Y/n) spoke quietly as she padded back into the bedroom, Lottie in her arms and Daisy rushing ahead of her.
"Daddy." Daisy scrambled up onto the bed and held her arms out until Eddie obliged. He happily reached across and lifted her up onto his lap so she could stand up on his thighs and lean against his abdomen. Her face tucked into the crook of his neck and her arms curled around his upper neck while he kissed her head and started to sway them from side to side. Still with Evan's head on his lap near his knees and Winnie sat up on Evan's chest, gurgling away.
(Y/n) sat down on the side of the bed near Eddie's lap and eased Lottie down next to her. Immediately, the three year old flopped onto her tummy and laid her head on Evan's shoulder until he turned her way. And when she puckered her lips, Evan started to chuckle and leaned over to kiss her.
"Morning Lottie-cake."
"Park today?"
Her eyes fell closed as she shuffled closer, pressing her mouth and nose against Evan's shoulder while she curled up into his arm. A small whine passed her lips when she looked across and saw Evan was holding Winnie up on his chest. Lottie tended to get jealous.
He leaned over to kiss Lottie's temple, but when she reached her hand out and tried to give Winnie a shove, Evan quickly grabbed her hand.
"Don't do that, that's not nice." Lottie shivered under his gaze and the deep tone to his voice that made her hide away against his shoulder to avoid his gaze.
"Mummy will take you, me and daddy have to work today." Eddie reached his hand down to brush against Lottie's hair while he juggled Daisy higher on his chest. The twins weren't a fan of when they had to go to work, they hated it unless the pair of them were going to nursery but even then, they felt like they were being abandoned.
It was one of the reasons Evan didn't like taking the twins to nursery, they knew how to tug on his heartstrings when they cried and begged him to take them back home.
Lottie let out a small whine and wriggled closer to Evan, if that were possible, while Daisy lifted her head from Eddie's shoulder to look up at him with her puppy dog eyes she definitely copied from Evan.
"No."
Eddie quirked a brow while he cuddled Daisy closer to his chest so he could unhook his legs from the covers and stand up. He stretched, hitching Daisy higher up before he leaned down and wrapped an arm around (Y/n)'s front. He pressed a longing kiss to her temple and let her lean back into him while her hands moved up to hold his arm.
"We gotta go work with grandad, baby girl." Evan kissed her cheek but when she tried to wriggle on his chest, he gently nudged her back so he could sit up. Keeping Winnie sat up on his lap while Lottie curled herself around his arm.
"Come on, let's go get dressed." Leaning over the bed, Eddie let go of (Y/n) and scooped Lottie up in his free arm, holding both toddlers into his chest so he could go get them ready. He could see they'd already had breakfast, it was all down their pyjamas. He would gladly get them dressed before he got a shower and got ready to leave.
"Will you take them out to the park?" Evan murmured softly as he tucked his face into the crook of (Y/n)'s neck, biting down to feel the way she shivered against him.
His lips curved against her neck as he felt Winnie batting her hand on his chest like she was trying to tell him that she wanted some attention too. His free hand reached out to cup the side of (Y/n)'s neck and he lifted his head, angling her chin up in his direction to steal a kiss.
"Yeah, we'll go to the park. You're dropping Chris at school today aren't you?" (Y/n) reached her hands out to gently ease their youngest into her arms and she let Evan steal another kiss before she backed up.
The twins weren't in nursery full time yet and they weren't at nursery today, whereas Chris would be at school. Since Eddie and Evan weren't on an extremely early shift, they usually dropped Chris off on their way to work. And that mostly meant the three of them would head out a bit earlier and get breakfast on the way.
"Yeah, he's coming with us."
(Y/n) leaned back when Evan towered over her and his cold hands travelled down to cup her waist and reel her in. He kissed the top of Winnie's head before he dove down to capture (Y/n)'s lips again and all but groaned into her mouth.
She straightened her back and pressed her feet into the carpet to stop Evan from trying to steer her back towards the bed. She knew what he was doing. She juggled Winnie a bit higher on her chest which caused the nine-month old to giggle and bat her hand against Evan's chest. She was always vying for the boy's attentions.
"We have to get ready." She mumbled into his mouth before Evan finally pulled back with a coy grin that got disfigured when he kissed Winnie's cheek.
"Suppose so," Evan sighed playfully before he swiped his clothes from the chest of drawers and headed out the bedroom with (Y/n) in tow behind him.
The boys would be at work, Chris would be at school and (Y/n) would take the girls out to entertain them at the park.
They would all have a busy day ahead of them.
A grin spread across (Y/n)'s lips when she looked across at the twins. Her eyes followed them as they trotted towards the small slide and started to climb up the steps.
Sometimes when she looked at the girls, it felt like she had double vision. They were the spitting image of each other. The only way to tell the difference between the twins if people didn't know them was the tiny mole on Daisy's left cheek beneath her eye.
Eddie had gotten them both dressed this morning and (Y/n) always knew when the boys had gotten the girls dressed. They dressed them in matching clothes.
Today, both girls were dressed in cream dresses with little strawberries dotted all over them and matching white tights which would soon turn black after a while at the park. And they had on their bright yellow coats with duckling hoods. (Y/n) studied the dresses, pretty sure that those were the ones Eddie's parents had gotten the girls for their birthday.
Tilting her head down, (Y/n) leaned over and nuzzled a kiss to Winnie's cheek, bouncing the little girl on her lap.
She was a bit too young to be at the park, but Winnie was occupied looking around and taking in the sights. The fresh air would do her some good and send her to sleep later.
"Mummy!"
(Y/n) cuddled Winnie into her chest and pushed up from the bench to head over to the girls.
"Go on then." She held her hand out and took Daisy's hand as she pushed down the slide and she pulled on her hand a bit to stop her from sliding right off the end of the side at the bottom.
She did the same for Lottie and stood patiently at the slide while both girls took numerous turns going down the slide.
It was always better when all the boys joined them. Chris would take the twins on the big slide and go down with them. They would all go on the swings and Eddie and Evan would chase the girls around the park and go on the roundabout with them. (Y/n) had hundreds of videos on her phone of when they all came out to the park.
Being here with just the four of them felt rather lonesome and quiet compared to what they were used to.
Their house was always rowdy and full of life, considering there were seven of them living there.
When Lottie reached for (Y/n)'s hand and went down the slide, she tugged on (Y/n)'s hand and gingerly pointed up to her head.
"What, sweetie?"
"Itches."
Pursing her lips, (Y/n) nodded and let go of her hand so she could move over to the pram. She leaned over and gently set Winnie in the pram, wrapping the blanket around her so she could try and settle and maybe have another nap while (Y/n) tended to the girls.
She moved the pram towards the bench and sat down, patting her knee so Lottie could trot over to her and clamber up onto her knee. While Daisy went to stand beneath the slide instead where there were a few beads to play with and move along curling wires.
(Y/n) smiled and tilted Lottie's head forward so she could look at the various braids and waited for Lottie to point to the one that was itching.
"Who did your hair this morning?" She murmured softly while she tried to carefully wiggle her fingers into the braid and loosen the strands. Both twins had rather thin but curly hair which took after both Eddie and Evan. They loved to have their hair braided, and both men had learned lots of hair tricks and skills over the past three years.
Especially now they had Winnie and the boys were outnumbered with girls, they wanted to be able to do each daughter's hair and make them look beautiful whether they were going to nursery or school or out to a family function.
"Papi, he said it's pretty."
"It is pretty, baby, but I think papi's getting a bit too good at this." She might have guessed it was Eddie. He was getting skilled at braids and he had done them just a bit too tight which was making Lottie scratch and try to itch them to loosen the tension.
After a minute of pulling at each strand of hair and slowly loosening each braid, (Y/n) kissed the back of her head and leaned over her shoulder.
"How's that?"
"Thank you." Lottie nodded and reached up to touch her hair to reassure herself that her mum hadn't taken out the braids. She had been ecstatic this morning when Eddie did her hair and showed her in the living room mirror. She didn't want them to be taken out and she didn't want Eddie to come home tonight and ask what happened to her pretty braids.
He called her his pretty baby this morning and Lottie wanted the exact same reaction when he came home.
"When they home?" Daisy got off the slide and looked up at (Y/n) with her big doe eyes that she had learned from Chris.
Both twins looked around the park before they pointed to the roundabout and (Y/n) nodded, slowly trailing after them with the pram, pleased to see Winnie was starting to nod off.
"They'll be home after tea, before you go to bed." (Y/n) cringed at the sudden thought that maybe the boys might have to stay late if an accident took longer to control. (Y/n) knew what it was like, her dad was Captain of the station house, she knew how hard it was to control situations. And she knew that if they had delays evacuating people or getting people out of tough situations, time could spill over.
They couldn't exactly leave people trapped in cars or burning buildings because their shifts were over. They had to deliver people to hospital and clear out homes and fires.
If the boys got held up one of them would text (Y/n), especially because all the kids liked the boys to tuck them in or at least say goodnight to them.
(Y/n) leaned her arms on the pram and watched the girls scurry onto the roundabout. Once they were both seated on the rainbow bench, (Y/n) clicked the brakes on the pram so it was beside her and leaned over to spin the roundabout.
She started out slowly before gaining momentum when the roundabout finally seemed to grease up and work without too much effort.
This was when (Y/n) wished the boys were here, this was their skill set, not (Y/n)'s.
"Need a hand?"
(Y/n) jumped at the sound of a new, unfamiliar voice that sounded a lot closer than she expected. She had been so engrossed with the girls that she hadn't looked around for a while to see if anyone else was here. They had luckily been the only ones in the park when they arrived and that was how they all liked it.
She looked to the left to see a rather tall, lanky man stood very close by. He had a leather jacket with his shoulders hunched up and his hands tucked deeply into his pockets. His smile was nervous and a little unsettling and and there was a certain eagerness about him that made (Y/n) wary.
"Oh, no, no thank you we're fine." She tried her best to sound polite, it wouldn't do her any favours to offend anyone when she was out on her own with the kids.
She glanced her eyes around the park but her hands tightened around the roundabout frame and she glanced back to the twins when she noticed something strange.
There were no other kids.
Had he wandered into the park as a short cut? Was he just taking a walk on his own and thought he would offer (Y/n) some help as she was on her own? If so that was a little strange. Or perhaps he had a child with him but they had wandered onto the green to run about. If so he was a very relaxed person to let his child wander and not keep an eye on them.
When he quietly murmured "Twins?" and pointed to the girls, (Y/n) nodded with a tight-lipped smile.
"They're very sweet."
"Thank you." (Y/n) took another look around, but she still couldn't see any children anywhere.
Why was he talking to them if he didn't have any kids? Did he really want to strike up a conversation with a mother who was busy tending to three children? (Y/n) was a cautious person by nature, but she felt a very odd vibe in this situation and she didn't like it.
Maybe she could ring one of the boys and talk to them to get this man to back off. He might step away if (Y/n) started talking to one of her partners. It might frighten him off to learn (Y/n) wasn't a single parent and if she tried to imply that one of the boys was coming down to the park to meet them, the man would definitely back off.
"Oh, she's such a pretty baby." He removed one hand from his pocket to point into the pram that he leaned over to get a better view of Winnie who was nuzzled into her blanket, now fast asleep.
"Girls, are you ready?"
"How old?" The man continued to strike up conversation, seemingly oblivious to the fact that (Y/n) was trying to get out of this situation.
(Y/n) reached her hand out for the twins and latched her other hand around the pram, slowly reeling it closer to make sure Winnie stayed beside her. But she could of screamed when both girls trotted off the roundabout and make a beeline for the swings, completely bypassing (Y/n).
"How old?" He repeated the question and leant closer towards (Y/n) while his grin changed from something strange to something sinister. And when he clamped one hand down on the pram, (Y/n) shuddered and tried to step back and pull Winnie closer.
He was beginning to frighten her.
***
Athena's hands braced on the belt around her waist and she took a deep breath as she nudged her car door shut and proceeded onto the path.
These were the kind of calls that always gained her attention and made her apprehensive.
Trying to find a suspect.
When the suspect was someone who was on edge and seemed to have flipped from 'normal' to 'unhinged' Athena was always apprehensive. It was never clear what the person was up to or what lengths they would go to in order to get what they want or get their point across.
The man they were after had had his wife walk out on him with his daughter and he hadn't been able to see them since.
Someone had spotted the man in the park after he had tried and failed to kidnap a lady this morning.
"Let's take it slow." She looked across at her partner before the pair of them advanced across the grass towards the park.
If they found the suspect they didn't want to spook him into taking a hostage or having to chase him. There would be families and young children around here, they had to be cautious and think about this before they ran ahead.
But the closer they got to the park, the more uneasy Athena felt. She couldn't see a man anywhere, not even a father with his children at the park. She could see two children on the swing sets and a woman stood to one side, but she couldn't see their suspect anywhere.
They still had to ask around, just in case anyone had seen him or knew which direction he had gone.
Athena opened the gate to the park and stepped onto the soft tarmac, but when she looked across to the woman, her heart sank to her chest.
Oh no.
Her eyes cast to the children on the swings, but she didn't recognise them and there was no one else here. Athena knew the two young children stood with that woman; those were her grandkids.
And that was not her daughter.
A light sparkled in the young woman's eyes when she looked up and realised a uniformed officer was here. She hadn't had time to call the police yet, someone must have known something was wrong, or this was very good timing.
"Oh, Officer, I found these two-"
"Nanny!" Both twins chorused in union and when they turned to face Athena, her heart dropped down to the pit of her abdomen.
They were crying. Tears flushed their faces, their eyes were puffy and wide and their lips were trembling. Both of them were shaking as they trotted over in her direction, shaking arms open wide to seek comfort from their nana. It wasn't usual for the twins to see Athena in her uniform, they were only used to seeing their parents and Bobby in any sort of uniform. Every time they saw Athena she was off shift.
Athena crouched down and opened her arms, bracing herself when the girls barrelled into her chest, one tucked under each arm. She felt them start to wail into her chest in a mixture of relief and panic combined and it made her sigh.
She tightly bound them closer and pressed dozens of kisses to their hair, but when she looked up, she realised the young woman was looking rather put-out and confused. And her partner was stood to one side, fingers tapping against his belt out of nervousness because he had no idea what was happening.
They were here to find a suspect and seemed to have walked into a strange situation instead.
"It's okay, these are my grand-babies." She looked between her partner and the stranger who seemed to have come to the twin's aid before she looked back down at the girls who started to tug on her uniform to get her attention.
"Where's mummy gone?" Daisy brushed her nose on her sleeve before she leaned in closer and pressed her face into Athena's neck.
"Ooh, babies it's okay. I'll find mummy." Athena could feel her heart hammering against her chest and she held her breath to try and regulate her system.
Where was her daughter? (Y/n) was one of the best mums out there. She was dedicated to all four kids and she loved them more than anything. (Y/n) wouldn't leave the twins here on their own with no supervision, she wouldn't take more than five steps away from them at any time if they were out on their own.
Something must have happened. And where was Winnie? Was the youngest girl with (Y/n), or was she somewhere else?
Athena took a look around the park, but there was no pram here and there were no cars in the car park so (Y/n) hadn't simply popped to the car to tend to Winnie or take a call or grab something.
"What happened?" Athena looked over at the young woman while she continued to hold the twins and sway them from side to side. They were frightened and Athena wasn't letting them go, not for a second. She would hold them until they felt better and they weren't leaving her sights until one of their parents was here.
"I- I don't know. I came here with my kids, and these two were crying, no one else was around. I was about to call you." She would of made a phone call to the police if Athena hadn't of turned up when she did.
All the woman had been trying to do was bring her children to the park but when she came in, the twins were sobbing on a bench. No adult in sight. Both crying for their mum who wasn't here, and they kept talking about their sister but there was no other child here.
"Take her statement."
Athena pointed her partner towards their new witness before she stood to her feet and took each twin's hand in hers. She gently ushered them over towards the bench and sat down with Daisy on her left and Lottie sat on her right. They both cosied up into her sides, wiping their eyes as they continued to wail and whimper.
"Okay, who was your mummy talking to? Did she know anyone here or walk over to anybody?" Something drastically wrong had happened and it was killing Athena to remain composed when all she wanted to do was break down in tears.
Her daughter was missing, potentially hurt, one of her granddaughters was seemingly missing. And she knew that both Eddie and Evan would be at work with her husband right now. Oh, the phone call she was going to have to make to the three of them was going to cause a lot of chaos.
"The man, he s- he was watching Winnie."
A cold slither of dread crawled down Athena's spine and her jaw clenched. The man. Their suspect. He had been spotted near this park, walking this way, on his own. He had talked to (Y/n). It couldn't be a coincidence, it had to be their suspect who had talked to her. He had taken her. He had (Y/n) and Winnie.
Athena carded her fingers through Daisy's hair and leaned down to kiss the top of Lottie's head before she hushed them and stood up. She took two steps away and turned so she was facing them, still fully within the twins sight but just far enough that they wouldn't hear or understand what she was going to say into the radio.
"Dispatch, I need a red alert out on our suspect. We think he's kidnapped a young woman and her nine-month old baby. I need a team out canvassing the streets for them. Now."
They had to find them. They had to find (Y/n) and Winnie before something bad happened to them.
***
"Doesn't look too bad." Chimney leaned back and tilted his head down to assess the car he and Evan were aiming towards. A crash had happened just up the road and this car had crashed into another car, unable to stop in time.
It didn't look like much damage had been done and the car didn't have a dent on any of the doors. The driver wasn't going to be crushed, it would be easy to get them out and assessed and see what minimal damage they had.
"Sir, LAFD. Can we take a look at you?" Chimney tilted his helmet back and crouched down at the driver's door to peer through the window.
"I- I'm fine. I'm in a bit of a hurry."
"Sir, you could be concussed. Step out the car and we will assess you, make sure you're alright." Chimney smiled, doing his best to sound calm and not like he was giving an order.
The man might be hurt, he had a rather bad gash on his temple and it could lead to a concussion. In the very least he needed an assessment before they let him carry on driving. They would all be liable if he drove off and had another crash because of concussion.
"Really, I'm fine." He did his best to turn the ignition key, but when Chimney leaned in and turned the engine off, the man all but whimpered.
He looked extremely panicked.
Evan's brows furrowed and he twisted to look over at Eddie who was helping another driver climb out of her car. He took a step back and folded his arms over his chest when he watched Chimney open the door. He was doing the silent treatment; trying to see if silently coaxing the man to get out would make him cooperate with them.
He had been in a crash, why wouldn't he want to be assessed? No one was blaming him for this or going to tell him off. He hadn't done anything wrong, he hadn't caused the crash.
"Chim, I need a hand."
When Bobby's voice sounded out through the air, Chimney pointed to the path to give the man an idea of where to be so he would be out the way and somewhere safe before he headed over to his Captain.
Evan watched the man climb out the car. He seemed to be shaking a tiny bit, but he was steady on his feet and he wasn't crying out in pain or stumbling around or suffering from a severe injury.
Backing up, Evan rounded the front of the car and walked towards his boyfriend. He could help Eddie get that woman from her car and get her on the path to be assessed and checked out. It would be better than arguing with this driver who didn't want to be checked out just yet.
Evan was halfway towards Eddie when he heard a car door opening and he just happened to glance over his shoulder.
Oh. The man had a baby. Why the Hell did he want to leave the scene if he had a child involved in a collision?
If Evan had just been involved in a traffic accident he would be demanding someone check on Winnie or the twins or Chris if they had been in the car with him. He wouldn't try and drive off her play it off and say he was fine. His kids were his world and their health and wellbeing was more important than anything else in the world.
"Sir, sir over here. I can get someone to take a look at your baby." Evan waved his hand out towards the man to beckon him this way.
Hen and Chimney were in this direction, even Eddie was here. One of them would be able to take a look and give the man's baby a once-over to ensure they were okay. Evan could hear the baby whimpering and he could see them wriggling around. They might be shaken up or even sick or concussed.
A frown etched onto his face and his jaw set tight when the man tried to ignore him. Did he not care about his child? What on Earth was he doing? Where was he trying to go?
"Sir, hey mister, please-"
"We're perfectly alright, j-just leave us alone."
Shoulders slumping, Evan took a deep breath and clenched his hands into fists when the man twisted to face him and finally paused. But he was still aiming towards the corner of the junction. He was trying to walk away and take his child home, or presumably somewhere safe. That wasn't a good idea.
"You really should let us…" Whatever he had planned to say faded into the wind when Evan looked in the carrier.
His feet moved before he comprehended what he was doing and he took three steps closer, which in turn made the stranger step back, but it didn't stop him. Evan noticed.
Each of Evan's kids were his everything, he had their pictures in his wallet, all four of them were on his lock screen while Eddie and (Y/n) were his home screen. He knew what all of his children looked like, he could spot them from up to twenty feet away and he knew the sound of their voices and their cries and what they felt like in his arms.
That was his baby girl.
Why did this man have Winnie in his arms?
Evan couldn't help but lean to the right and he peered into the car the man had climbed out of, but it was vacant. No (Y/n). No Daisy. No Lottie. Where were the rest of the girls? Who was this man? Why did he have one of Evan's daughters when (Y/n) was nowhere in sight?
"What are you doing with my daughter?"
The deep, guttural tone to Evan's voice made the man pale until he was practically see-through. Evan could feel his arms tensing as his body began to shake and vibrate and his jaw clenched until his teeth were grinding together and his ears began to ring.
That was Winnie. Evan and Eddie's baby girl was whimpering and wriggling in that carrier that wasn't hers and she looked red in the face like she had been crying for a long time. She was frightened.
"What?" Confusion flooded the man's face but when he held the carrier tighter to his chest, it made Evan growl.
"Eddie!"
He waved his hand behind him but he wouldn't take his eyes off their daughter. Not for a second. He didn't want to blink in case this crazed man tried to make a break with his daughter. He had clearly taken Winnie from (Y/n) and he was starting to panic and sweat now he had been caught. Evan wasn't letting him get away.
When the man started to back away and look around like he was searching what options he had, Evan pushed forward.
"Why the fuck are you walking off with my baby?"
That deep voice made something twinge in Eddie's stomach and he stepped away from the woman he had been tending to so he could advance towards his boyfriend.
What was he talking about? Who was here?
Eddie leaned around Evan as he approached, a frown set deep into his face when he looked at the man who was backing away with a carrier in his arms.
"Buck, wh-"
"He's got Winnie!"
As soon as the man set off into a run, Evan sprinted with him alongside Eddie whose boots clashed against the concrete pavement to spurr him on faster. He hadn't seen the child in the carrier but he trusted Evan completely. If his boyfriend said their youngest girl was in that man's arms then Eddie believed him and he would chase that man until they got their girl back.
Millions of questions rattled through Eddie's brain as his elbows cut through the air and the pen light in his hand dropped to the ground, long forgotten. He easily caught up with Evan and pushed to go faster, getting closer and closer to the man who was audibly gasping and making some sort of strange sounds like he was truly panicking. So he should be.
Eddie's teeth gritted together, his upper lip curling into a vicious snarl as he stretched his arms out, a mere foot away from whoever had his child.
The man twisted to look over his shoulder, clearly trying to see if he was being pursued or not. And when he realised he was about to get tackled, he shrieked.
"No!"
"Eddie-"
Evan's feet skidded against the pavement and his hands waved in the air, one moving to tangle in his hair as his breath caught in his lungs and his eyes all but popped out of their sockets.
The man launched the carrier.
He actually threw it to try and get away faster. He would endanger the child he had stolen to try and save himself and escape being caught.
Evan's heart jumped into his throat and he choked when he watched Eddie lunge. He'd never seen Eddie move so quickly before, he looked like an Olympic diver aiming for the pool as he twisted and grabbed the baby carrier before it hit the ground.
A horrible grunt left Eddie's lips and he coughed when the carrier bashed into his chest and his back violently hit the floor. His boots shuddered against the ground and his head slammed back and vibrated in his helmet which thankfully saved him from a horrid concussion.
He had her. The carrier was in his arms, it hadn't tumbled or hit the ground and Winnie hadn't fallen out.
Her shrieks hit Eddie's ears and made his heart shudder. It was her. That sound was like music to Eddie's ears; he knew each different tone and pitch in all the kid's voices. Eddie knew that was his baby shrieking before he opened his eyes and looked up to check on her.
He heard Evan calling his name and he managed to uncurl one hand from the carrier to wave his hand to the side.
He was okay; Evan needed to go and catch that lunatic.
"Eddie? What's going on- Winnie?" Bobby's frantic voice filled the air as he crouched down beside Eddie and carefully took the carrier from him so Eddie could sit up.
He coughed and grunted, pressing one hand to his chest to gain back his breath before he twisted and shakily unbuckled Winnie. He reached out and scooped her up, cradling his youngest to his chest like he was trying to stuff her into his heart and keep her safe.
"Shh, shh. Oh baby, I've got you." He whispered against the top of her head while he cradled the back of her neck and started to rock her up and down against his chest. Her tiny hands curled into fists and bashed into his chest as loud wails and gasping cries tumbled past her lips that were wet and sticking to Eddie's shirt from her desperation.
Eddie shivered and twisted to look behind him when Evan's shrill voice cut through the air.
"Oi! You ain't getting away from me!"
He cringed when he watched Evan leap through the air and grab the man, successfully landing right on top of him as they both clattered to the floor. From Eddie's angle, it looked like his boyfriend had used the man as a crash mat and it clearly didn't jolt Evan's system at all. Because he reeled up to his feet and dragged the man up with him who was now coughing and spluttering for breath.
"Where are the twins… where's (Y/n)?" Bobby pressed his hand to Eddie's back and looked down at his youngest grandchild. She looked shell shocked and she was clearly distraught, but she didn't look harmed.
That still didn't tell them where (Y/n) was or the twins and it didn't tell them why this stranger had one of the girls with him.
"I don't know." The panic in Eddie's eyes was evident and it only crippled Bobby who felt like he couldn't breathe.
Where was his daughter?
Eddie grimaced but nodded at Bobby when the Captain gripped his elbow and helped him up to his feet, Winnie still tightly held in his arms. They both moved to stand near the wall on the pavement and Eddie pressed his lips to the top of Winnie's head, cradling her close to his chest as he started to bounce her up and down to try and calm her hectic wails.
None of them knew that man. If Eddie and Evan didn't know him then they knew there was no way (Y/n) would leave their daughter with him. He had taken her which meant he had done something to (Y/n).
A guttural "Get up!" spat past Evan's lips as he dragged the man towards the wall when he tried to slump down to his knees. He was waiting here until they could find (Y/n) and get the police. But Evan's head snapped to look over his shoulder when a loud siren caught his attention.
The police. Right on time.
All of them practically sighed and felt relief shaking down to their knees when they watched Athena climb out the car. Just the officer they needed to see at this moment in time.
"That's the man." The determination in Athena's voice was ground-shaking and Evan gave the man a little shove to get him in her direction. He didn't want to be stood near this creep any longer. He wanted this man as far away from them all as possible.
So Athena had been looking for this man. They must know what he had been doing and why he had Winnie then if they were searching for him.
As soon as Athena had him in handcuffs, her partner pulled him to one side so Athena could talk to her family.
"Is (Y/n) okay?" Eddie tried to take a look around and he narrowed his eyes as he peered towards the police car. (Y/n) wasn't there. He could feel his heart hammering against his chest the longer they waited for an answer. Where was their girlfriend? Was she alright? Why on Earth had this man tried to take Winnie?
Eddie's arms instinctively tightened around his baby girl as one hundred and one questions raced through his mind. But he could feel his breaths running away without him when he looked back at Athena. She looked puzzled.
"He took (Y/n) and Winnie from the park-"
"What about the girls?"
Athena gave Evan a pointed look that told him to try and be patient, she was about to explain that.
"He left the twins at the park. I've got the girls now, they're safe and sound with me… but (Y/n) should have been with him." Athena motioned towards the police car where the twins were safely sat in the back, huddled together.
Physically, the pair of them were fine, they weren't hurt or harmed in any way except for emotionally. They were frightened and scared, they had been left and probably thought (Y/n) had abandoned them at the park. It was lucky Athena had turned up when she did before the girls tried to wander off in search of their mum. Anything could of happened to them if they tried to leave on their own. They had the good sense to stay put and wait for someone to come and get them.
But Athena had been hoping to find her daughter when they found their suspect. Logically (Y/n) should be here somewhere. She should be with him, he had left with her. He must have.
"We've got Winnie… no one else was in the car."
"Where the Hell is she?" Bobby deadlocked his hands behind his head and tried not to start hyperventilating.
(Y/n) was his only child; she was the only family he had left and she meant the entire world to him. He couldn't have anything happen to her. He couldn't have her missing or in danger like this. The one and only time she had been in danger was during the apartment fire and Bobby vowed never to let her get into any sort of danger or trouble again after that.
"Has anyone checked the trunk?" Athena pressed her lips into a thin line as she looked between the three of them.
It was a possibility; it was slim, but it was possible.
Bobby shuddered when Eddie suddenly turned to face him and passed Winnie over without a word. He gently scooped Winnie up and let her burrow into his jacket while his lips attached to the top of her head to try and calm them both down. He ran his hand up and down her back, trying to hold his breath as he hurried after his team.
Eddie and Evan set off into a sprint, running around the corner and aiming for the car that had been abandoned on the side of the street.
When they reached the car, Eddie slammed one hand down on the boot and tried to prize it open. He shook his held and held out his hand as 'keys' spat past his lips. The moment Evan ripped the keys from the ignition and placed them in Eddie's trembling hand, he started to pray.
(Y/n) had to be in here. More importantly, she had to be alright.
Eddie wasn't willing to open this boot and find (Y/n) in any state other than alive. He couldn't lose another significant other. He couldn't lose (Y/n) in this way, and neither could Evan or the kids. They had four kids back at home, the boys couldn't raise them without her. He wasn't sure they would step foot in their home if they knew (Y/n) wouldn't be walking back through that door again.
Evan choked and doubled forward when his eyes set on their girlfriend. She was here. She had been carelessly hidden away in the trunk like an old blanket that had been long forgotten.
That maniac had been after Winnie. He cared about getting Winnie out of the car and absconding with her. He stuffed (Y/n) in the trunk; he couldn't care less what happened to her, she was merely a bystander in his game.
"We've got her!"
"(Y/n)? (Y/n)… baby." Eddie's hands trembled as he cupped (Y/n)'s face and tilted her head up in his direction.
His fingers pressed down on her neck and he stuttered through a gasp when he felt her pulse thumping against his fingers. She was alive. She was breathing and her pulse was strong.
"Help me get her up."
Evan wordlessly nodded and reached into the boot. He hated the way (Y/n) had been crumpled up like he had bundled her in here in a hurry. Her knees were bent awkwardly and were pressed into her stomach, one arm was strewn across her chest and the other was bent in an odd position behind her head. When she woke up she was going to feel awfully uncomfortably and in agony from lying like this.
He held onto her waist and gently lifted her legs out of the boot while Eddie cradled her upper half and lifted her up. They got her sitting on the edge of the boot and Eddie cradled the back of her neck as he tried rubbing his fist up and down her sternum to bring her back around.
The small groan she let out delighted them to see her starting to gain consciousness again. But Evan reached forward and grabbed her arms while Eddie looped his arm around her waist and fisted her hair in his grip when she doubled forward.
They both grimaced as she doubled over and threw up onto the road. Strangled sounds left her lips as she heaved more than she managed to breathe and Eddie had to forcefully pat his hand on her back to try and stimulate her lungs again and get her breathing.
"Alright, okay baby, breathe for me."
When (Y/n) flagged forward and seemed like she was about to collapse, Eddie bound his arm tighter around her waist while Evan carefully reeled her back and leaned behind her to prop her up. He let her head fall back on his shoulder while Eddie pulled up her eyelid to check her pupils when her eyes started to flutter.
"Mi amor, you with me?" his thumb swiped across her cheek as (Y/n)'s head rolled on Evan's shoulder and her face pressed into his neck.
"W-W… girls-" She coughed and spluttered, her voice barely more than a whisper as her eyes closed again. She barely had the energy to keep them open, all she wanted to do was sleep.
But where were her girls? Where were her babies?
"We've got the girls, they're all safe, baby. You're all safe now." Evan pressed his lips to the top of her head, trying his best to refrain from looping his arms tightly around her and pinning her into his chest. He wanted to confine her into his ribcage and keep her safe next to his heart, but he was afraid of holding her too tightly and hurting her.
His heart gave out an extra two beats when (Y/n) whimpered and her hands weakly batted around to clutch at her waist as she flagged more into Evan's chest. Leaning on him to hold herself up so she didn't topple forwards onto the road or slip backwards into the trunk again.
"Let me see, amor."
Eddie carefully pulled her hands away from the lower left side of her chest and he gently peeled her shirt up until it was bunched beneath her bra so he could see what the problem was. He sucked in a deep breath and looked up, locking eyes with Evan when they both noticed the blood.
His fingertips prodded at the wound that was about two inches in length, but Eddie couldn't tell how deep it was. She'd been stabbed.
And when the pair of them turned and peered back into the trunk, Eddie's lips curled into a grimace and Evan tried not to gag. There was a puddle of blood soaking into the base carpet in the trunk. He'd hurt her to subdue her and then left her to bleed out in the car.
What if they hadn't found her quickly? What if that lunatic drove out of LA with (Y/n) stuffed in there. She could of bled to death or suffocated or thrown up and choked. Anything could have happened to her if this crash hadn't happened and led to them finding her and Winnie.
They could of lost two of their girls and have resorted to searching the entire city to find their other two little girls.
"We need an ambulance over here!"
"S'okay, you're gonna be okay baby." Evan murmured into her hair when she leaned into him and whimpered again. At least it wasn't a large wound and it didn't look to be too deep. Evan knew Eddie would of been more panicked if the wound was deep enough to puncture an organ or a major artery.
As soon as a gurney was in front of them, Evan swiftly hopped off the trunk and turned around. He slid one arm beneath (Y/n)'s legs and the other around her back, lifting her up bridal style to lay her on the gurney. The movement jostled her stomach and she choked on her next breath before her eyes rolled to the back of her head.
Bobby's arms trembled as he twisted to the left and held his granddaughter down to his wife. He couldn't concentrate with Winnie in his arms, she was calming him down but he wasn't able to think.
As soon as she was out of his arms, he pushed forward and grabbed Evan's shoulder, leaning over him to see the state his daughter was in.
"You two get in the ambulance with her, Hen drive them to the hospital. I'll meet you there."
"And the girls can come home with me," Athena chipped in while her hand moved to cradle the back of Winnie's head and she pressed a tender kiss to her temple. She would end her shift and take the girls home and then in an hour she would go and collect Chris from school. They would work out the childcare arrangement so Athena could make it down to the hospital as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, as long as Bobby and the boys went down with (Y/n), she would be looked after and she wouldn't be alone.
When they got her in the ambulance, both Eddie and Evan took one of her hands each and plonked down into seats opposite each other with their partner laid between them.
They would make sure she would be okay.
