Nearly 6,22,988 vehicles carrying about 20 lakh tourists entered Lahaul valley via tunnel from Manali while about 6,50,711 vehicles exited Lahaul through the tunnel, with a total 12,73,699 vehicles. "The best trips, like the best love affairs, never really end" 2/2
Our SPITI travel circuit: Mumbai > Chandigarh > Narkanda > Sangla > Tabo > Pin valley > Rangrik > Langza > Komic > Hikkim > Kaza > Chandratal > Manali > Delhi > Mumbai, was for 14 days from 22.08.2024 to 04.09.2024 with Terraveller.
...continued from Part 1 of our jeep safari with stargazing to Spiti, mentioned at the end of this post.
DAY 5 PIN VALLEY to RANGRIK (near Kaza) 28.08.2024:
We reached Rangrik. It was near and ahead of Kaza, but it had peace and was not crowded like Kaza. We stayed at Hotel Norling-inn for 2 nights and used to have buffer dinner and breakfast here.
One of techies in the group created this sticker of our friend and we all had fun pulling her leg. She took it sportingly.
At night, social games were played in the rooms and everyone stayed awake to participate. It was a game of verbal accusation based on suspicion, defense based on circumstances and so-called enemity between friends. Haha.
DAY 6 RANGRIK - LANGZA - KOMIC - HIKKIM - KAZA - RANGRIK on 29.08.2024.
We had our breakfast at Rangrik and drove to the sitting Buddha of Langza.
We broke into a jig to a local song being played by our driver in the vehicle at Langza.
And we drove to the world's highest restaurant at 15,049 feet at Komic to have lunch.
After the highest lunch, it was time to connect with family and friends. We drove to the world's highest post office at Hikkim.
It was mandatory to refuel at the world's highest petrol pump in Kaza.
There was a HUGE surprise at Kaza for all of us. Tosh bhai, founder of Terraveller had sponspored a dinner treat for all of us at the luxurious restaurant, The Himalayan Cafe. This cafe provided books and board games along with delicious dishes.
As usual we played our social games by assembling together in one of the hotel rooms. Whosever room was occupied for the game, couldn't sleep till everyone decided to stop the game and retire by midnight.
DAY 7 RANGRIK to CHANDRATAL on 30.08.2024.
After our breakfast at Norling Inn hotel, we started our journey to the highest point of the jeep safari, Lake Chandratal.
Our lunch was at Losar around mid day. The locals of Losar welcome the tourists sweetly by saying, "hello Sir, Losar". It was quite funny. Cafe Samsong was our lunch point.
We crossed the camping site of Chandratal at least 3 kms before the lake around 3:10 pm.
I was happy that we were in time. Kudos to Tosh bhai, founder of Terraveller that he got us here in time. We had ample time to explore the lake.
And we completed the circumabulation of Chandratal lake, watched the sunset to return to our camp site, Spiti Expedition UC Camps in the twilight. We had a small stargazing session here, post dinner. We wrapped ourselves in our woollens in the cold and windy darkness of Chandratal.
By the time we returned after stargazing, some had already retired in the warm and cozy tents.
DAY 8 CHANDRATAL to MANALI on 31.08.2024.
We had a good breakfast at Chandratal camp site and left for Manali. The road is long and arduous. Bhavik bhai, who was less fortunate to get the last seat in the vehicle (we had rotation system and everyone got every good and less good seats in the tempo traveller vehicle) must have had a trip of his lifetime. आत्मा परमात्मा एक हो गया.
The roads and the weather is such that you get hungry quickly. We had stopped at Chacha Chachi Chandra Dhaba. The elderly couple who own the dhaba also are super heroes, who have played crucial part in saving lives of many tourists stranded in the mountains.
We crossed the 9 km Atal Tunnel in 10 minutes. A journey that used to take couple of hours, that may extend even more due to traffic or natural calamities, was now reduced to minutes!
Lahual welcomed us with its green velvety mountains and we had a tea break at Dorni dhaba. We washed ourselves with the cool waters of a naerby stream here.
We had lunch at 3 pm, after crosiing the Atal tunnel, but before reaching Manali.
Our Manali hotel - Snow Peak resorts and cottages was luxurious and those who had booked the shorter trip, checked out. The rest of us checked in.
Me and my friend were enthusiatic about exploring Manali on foot as soon as possible and we ventured out within 15 minutes of check-in, around 5 pm. We covered Hidimba temple, Ghatotkach temple, Khatu Shyam temple and Manu temple on foot. The darshan at each of these places was divine.
We were hungry after a walk to these temples, nestled in the hills of Manali and had momos at Green forest cafe behind Hidimba temple in Manali.
We were happy that we had one more night in Manali.
DAY 9 MANALI on 01.09.2024.
Today was trip to the left bank of Manali, Naggar-side. The breakfast at our luxurious hotel was quite sumptuous and varied.
I really don't remember what we had at the restaurant of Naggar Palace. Basically trout was on everybody's mind, but there was some film shooting going on and the restaurant couldn't serve it.
BY the time we reached Manali, I was famished and was feeling weak. I had tea with biscuit at the Manali bus stand. Tosh took us to Manali sweets, a restaurant famous for its tea and snacks. We had chole-samosa, jalebi and tea here.
It turned out to be an appetizer for the famished soul. Tosh suggested Super Bake restaurant on the Mall road and described that slice pizza would be available here. It wasn't.
Some of our friends had paid a visit to their local friends in Manali and they prepared Siddu, which is a local dish. It is bread with either sweet or savoury filling. Our friends got siddu for all of us, those who missed this local delicacy.
I still repent what followed after the gluttony of these cakes. I was bloated and we tried pan, which didn't help. FInally we decided to walk slowly to the hotel, even if it meant an uphill climb. For the next two hours we walked very slowly, halting for almost 45 minutes at the Hidimba temple. I swore not to overeat again.
I thought I had retired until my friends pulled a successful ghost prank on me.
DAY 10 MANALI to MANDI on 02.09.2024.
This was going to be the second last day of our tour. We all decided to go slow and soak in the most of the trip, now that it was about to end. We had a slow breakfast at the Manali hotel and as usual, it was sumptuous. We were going to Parashar lake and it is quite far. It took almost 6 hours to reach. En route, we stopped at a resort named Heavenly Forest for lunch. The steaming hot rice with dal and a dollop of butter was delicious. It was raining outside as we relished this lunch.
We returned after sightseeing Parashar lake and were dropped at Mandi bus stand, as our bus to New Delhi was to be boarded. A couple had flight the next day and were dropped at the hotel at Mandi.
The rest of the friends had extended plans to stay in Manali and they returned and reached Manali around 2 am.
DAY 11 MANDI on 03.09.2024.
Though I was not for the stay in the Mandi hotel, my friends were gracious to share the photos of their breakfast.
That ends my trip, as we reached Mumbai from New Delhi. I relived my experience while writing this post. Hope you all enjoyed reading it.

I have used photos graciously shared by my foodie friends, who also clicked good photos of places we stayed at. They allowed me to use their photos for this blog post. Those who contributed pictures are:

Journey of Discovery: Embracing the Unexpected in Spiti Valley
I’ve always been an adventurous traveler, with numerous solo trips under my belt. This time, however, I decided to try something different: a group solo adventure. Excited and curious, I joined a group of like-minded explorers with WanderOn, not knowing what the journey had in store for me.
From the beginning, I was pleasantly surprised by the incredible camaraderie among the group. The fellow travelers had positive energy and great vibes, making the journey more enjoyable in Sharbani Garg in Spiti Valley. We shared our travel stories, laughed together, and formed lasting friendships.
Little did I know that the weather had other plans, and the itinerary had to be adjusted due to unforeseen conditions. But this turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The new route led us to hidden gems and off-the-beaten-path and spiti valley road trip, awe-inspiring destinations.
A Journey to Remember: My 5 Nights/6 Days Summer Spiti
Convinced by Instagram, I decided to travel with WanderOn, a travel community offering excellent Spiti Tour Packages. I researched various travel companies but ultimately chose WanderOn for its cost-effectiveness and community-based approach. The idea of travel was clearly communicated, with like-minded travelers mostly in the same batches and experienced captains leading the way.
Journeying Through the Himalayan Range
Trip Duration – 5 Nights/6 Days
Day 1: Delhi to Manali Day 2: Manali to Kaza via Atal Tunnel and Kunzum Pass Day 3: Visit Dhankar Monastery and Pin Valley, followed by a stay in Kaza Day 4: Kaza to Chandratal Day 5: Stay in Kaza, Kaza to Manali Day 6: Manali to Delhi
Rugged Landscape: Experiencing the Surreal Beauty
I love mountains, but my preference has always been the greener side of the city. Spiti has the most beautiful range of mountains, yet I had hesitated to explore this place because of its rugged terrain and unpredictable weather. I feared my health would interfere with enjoying and exploring. Choosing to travel with WanderOn was a wise decision. They were well aware of the difficulties people face due to weather adversities and provided us with medicines every morning to help our bodies adjust to the altitude.
My excitement grew with every passing mile. The winding roads led to the magnificent Atal Tunnel, a marvel connecting Manali to the other side of the mighty Himalayas. Emerging from the tunnel, I found myself in the picturesque town of Kalpa. Nestled amidst the grandeur of the Kinnaur district, Kalpa welcomed me with open arms.
The crisp air brought a sense of tranquility that instantly captivated my soul. I found solace in the mix of calm and adventure. The charming wooden houses, apple orchards, and the majestic presence of Kinner Kailash in the backdrop created a sense of serenity I had never experienced before.
Wandering through the narrow lanes, I stumbled upon a local café. Intrigued by the aroma of freshly brewed tea, I stepped inside. The café exuded warmth, both from the crackling fire in the hearth and the genuine smiles of the locals. Engaging in conversations with the friendly people, I cherished their rich cultural heritage, ancient myths, and legends passed down through generations.
We played many games throughout the journey. It was the best icebreaker, and I relived my childhood on this beautiful trip.
A Mesmerizing Painting: Suraj Tal
The deep blue waters mirrored the surrounding peaks, creating an ethereal reflection that seemed to merge heaven and earth. Sitting by the shores, I witnessed the sun casting its golden rays upon the lake’s surface. The shimmering water sparkled like a million diamonds, reflecting the beauty of the sky above.
The cool breeze carried the aroma of food, enhancing the flavors and creating a delightful culinary experience. It was a moment of pure bliss, relishing good food and breathtaking views.
In the distance, we spotted a group of playful marmots scurrying about. The adorable creatures entertained us with their antics, hopping from rock to rock and chirping gleefully. We couldn’t help but smile, feeling a sense of childlike joy in their presence.
As the day drew to a close, we witnessed a mesmerizing sunset over Suraj Tal. The sky transformed into a canvas of vibrant oranges, pinks, and purples, creating a spectacle that seemed straight out of a painting. We marveled at nature’s artistry, capturing the moment with our cameras, hoping to preserve the memory forever.
My Rendition of the ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ Experience
The delicious food touched my soul in the enchanting land of Spiti, where the cold winds whispered secrets and the mountains stood tall and majestic. As I savored the delicacies of Spiti, each bite felt like a warm embrace. The Thukpa, with its fragrant broth and comforting noodles, warmed me from the inside out. It was a bowl of pure happiness, a soothing elixir for my body and spirit in the chilly mountain weather.
The Momos were like pockets of joy with their tender dough and flavorful fillings. The skill and love poured into their creation were evident in every bite.
But it wasn’t just the food itself that made this experience unforgettable; it was the atmosphere that surrounded it. In the midst of the snowy landscape, we gathered around warm camps, sharing stories and laughter. The cold weather seemed to fade into insignificance as we huddled together, savoring the delicious meals that felt like a taste of home.
The aroma of spices mingled with the crisp mountain air, creating an inviting and comforting ambiance. It was a time of connection, of forging bonds with fellow travelers and locals alike. As we shared meals, we shared not just food but also the joy of being alive, of embracing the beauty of the moment. The camps were so comfortable and kept us warm all night. I slept like a baby and woke up refreshed.
In those moments, I realized that traveling is the most beautiful part of life. It nourishes the soul, bringing people together and transcending language and cultural barriers. It reminds us of the simple pleasures in life.
Most Beautiful Part of the Trip: Key Gompa Trek
The rugged terrain has a lot to offer if we dare to discover its bounties. Our cool captains, Rahul and Shehzan, took us on an offbeat trek. There was nobody else except our group on the radar of 2 km. We could easily hear the birds chirping, the insects’ noise, and the winds beneath.
We trekked for about 15-20 minutes, walking amidst the jungle and the hilly mountains, witnessing the wildflowers blooming all around. It was getting scarier as we couldn’t see anything beyond a point. But as the captains told us we were approaching an end, we started getting excited about what it could be. And I don’t doubt it when I say it was all worth it.
We got to see the view of the whole Spiti Valley from that point. It was a surreal experience, which I never thought I could experience with open eyes. The 360-degree view of the three Buddha statues towards our left was an exceptional experience.
I cannot stop smiling when I talk about it. To be honest, I was initially frustrated with the changing itineraries due to unforeseen weather, but in the end, I have no regrets or grudges for choosing WanderOn and Spiti Valley.
From One Traveller To Another: Some Tips for Visiting Spiti
Prepare for altitude sickness and keep your medications handy. Community travel is an experience to cherish, so make the most of it. Don’t miss out on trying different local foods. Be prepared for unexpected weather and adapt to the situation to make the best of your journey.

India is undergoing major improvements to its road and bridge infrastructure through several initiatives and projects. The Bharatmala Pariyojana project aims to develop 34,800 km of highways and has increased construction speed significantly. Twenty Seven greenfield expressways are also being built. Rural roads development is gaining focus with the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana completing over 3.5 lakh km of rural roads. Upcoming initiatives like the Sagarmala project and Gati Shakti Master Plan aim to further optimize logistics and transport. New technologies like BIM and drones are also fast tracking road surveys and design.
Overview
It is a matter of pride for India that the second-largest road network in the world, which is 6.37 million kilometers in length, is our possession. In the last few years, there has been a dramatic rise in the country's highway construction speed from around 12 kilometers per day in 2014-15 to around 29 kilometers per day in 2021-22. The number of functional highways has gone up from 97,830 kilometers in 2014 to 145,155 kilometers today. On the other hand, the nine years of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) have seen the construction of more than 3.5 lakh kilometers of rural roads which have made all-weather roads free from all-weather roads connectivity to villages of India. The government's budget allocation for road infrastructure has had a rapid increase, now amounting to about ₹1.4 lakh crore in FY22-2023. Through the completion of strategic projects like the Atal Tunnel, the Dhola-Sadiya Bridge, and the Chenab River Bridge during a relatively short time frame, the government impresses the public with its inclusive governance and readiness to connect even the remotest regions of the country.
India’s Paving Innovative Developments in Road and Bridges Infrastructure
India is involved in the execution of highly ambitious infrastructure projects like the Chenab Bridge, which is the tallest arch railway bridge and is located near one of the highest altitudes, and an Indian Railway line that runs throughout its entire length. This bridge is a demonstration of the amazing engineering skills that Indians possess and is proof that a cohesive team, as leaders, can generate solutions that will in turn sustain the development of India.
The Indian government emphasizes infrastructure development and the government has developed schemes and policies within the framework of infrastructural development. The National Infrastructure Pipeline (NIP) in 2019 is an initiative that enables governments at the national level to focus on social and infrastructure projects including energy, roads, railways, and urban development projects worth INR 102 lakh crores. The Centre and States have the next to equal share of close to 40% each and the private sector has a 21% share. NIP also takes advantage of the PM GatiShakti Master Plan, which intends to intensify India's logistics system. In the Indian Budget 2023-24, the Government of India highlighted the necessity of stepping up the amount of money spent on infrastructure and nearly tripled its infrastructure spending to 3.3% of GDP against 2019-20 expenditure. INR 75000 crores, which is a budget for 100 projects is crucial towards the development of the comprehensive multimodal logistics infrastructure.
As of the end of July 2023, Indians’ total length of national highways amounted to 146,145 km. This figure showed a 60 percent increase from the April 2014 level of 91,287 km. The government aims to achieve this by 2030 with 1.3 times more as compared to the 2020 value which makes it 185,000 km and with 1.6 times more as compared to the 2020 value it should make it 237,000 km by 2047. The Bharatmala Pariyojana, which is the nation's largest infrastructure project, envisages the development of about 34,800 km of national highways. There would be around 27,000 km of this awarded and about 14,500 km already constructed by July 2023 with a capital expenditure of Rs 10.64 trillion As well as this, the building of 27 greenfield expressways is ongoing with a capital cost of Rs 4.5 trillion. The feather in the cap, however, is the construction of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway, Bangalore-Chennai Expressway, Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway and the one between Kanpur and Lucknow Expressway.
The emphasis given by the central government to the road sector is vividly illustrated in the uptick of Capital spending by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), which has gone from Rs. 0.31 trillion in 2013-14 to Rs. 2.59 trillion in 2023-24, with a 23% CAGR. Out of the capex of 50,000 crore rupees provisioned for the next financial year, about 60 percent has been allocated to the National Highways Authority of India or NHAI. In the last two years, the hybrid annuity model (HAM) share with 55 percent retained in projects awarding has been followed up with the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) constituting 44 percent. The government focuses on contributing to the BOT model which is intended to improve the quality of projects. Through this, it aims to increase the chunk of BOT projects from the current share of less than 5 percent to around 10 percent in the coming two years.
Key Initiatives and Their Impact
Bharatmala Pariyojana: This flagship program envisions an integrated network of highways spanning the nation. The project has significantly expedited the pace of highway construction, with India achieving an average construction rate of 37 km per day in 2022-23, a remarkable increase from 12.1 km per day in 2014-15.
Sagarmala Programme: Focusing on coastal and port-led development, this initiative aims to modernize India's ports, optimize logistics efficiency, and boost maritime trade.
Gati Shakti National Master Plan: This transformative plan promotes integrated infrastructure planning and implementation. Gati Shakti utilizes technology to break down silos between various ministries, enabling seamless coordination and accelerated project delivery.
Focus on Rural Roads: The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) has been instrumental in connecting rural habitations, providing much-needed access to essential services, markets, and opportunities for India's vast rural population.
Strategic Connectivity Projects: The construction of iconic bridges like the Chenab River Bridge (the world's highest railway bridge) and projects such as the Atal Tunnel have overcome geographical challenges, particularly in border and remote regions, thereby fostering national integration.

Upcoming Expressways Projects in India
According to the report, aided by the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), rural road development has also gained traction, with rural roads accounting for 71 percent of the overall road network in India.
During the last decade, the Indian government’s rural road development projects have gained momentum and the authorities are currently engaged in rural road network development. This also is the case as the farmers, especially those who engage in the export market, depend on the rural roads that offer economic benefits like reducing the cost of production and time of transport.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) targets for two hundred thousand kilometers of National Highway Network to be finished by 2025. The aim is to construct the highest quality road infrastructure with the help of a plan-oriented and result-oriented approach. This year MoRTH plans to create an all-time high of 13,000 km of highway and to top it all, MoRTH is also setting a target to increase the speed of highway construction manifoldly. Many of the construction equipment players realize that the Indian market can be a future market for their equipment and solutions, consequently unveiling the latest solutions for road and highway construction. Humbly speaking, L&T's in-house development has been able to design and fabricate an entire set of equipment like Soil Compactors, Tandem Compactors, Mini Compactors, and Pneumatic Tyred Rollers.
India’s Infrastructure Strategy for Sustainability
Decarbonization is today a prominent topic in which sustainability is the key theme. Along with this, a lot of creative practices and techniques of road building are also being used in the Indian sector of roads that are aimed at reducing the environmental impact and improving the long-term viability of road projects. Among the alternatives to conventional aggregate materials are recycled aggregates, waste plastics, crumb rubber, steel slag, modified bitumen, geosynthetics, and fly ash, which are used to support sustainable development.
Modern technologies that involve the use of Building Information Modelling (BIM), precast construction, and virtual twins are taking root in highway projects. The government specifications providing 25% pre-cast concrete elements with the exceptions of foundation work for the national highway projects initiated within the 100 km range of the pre-cast concrete factories have been made mandatory. Besides the goal of reducing pollution, the approach is also to fasten constructing the project and beautify the area at the end of the construction. Besides, these firms are doing testing of robotics and automation in asphalt and concrete laying as well. Digital technologies are now an essential part of highway operation and maintenance, and the need for smart highway infrastructure increases along with the demand for connectivity. Electronic tollways, wireless sensors, and advanced traffic management systems are becoming a trend. The implementation of aerial differential GPS-LiDAR (light detection and ranging) drones for field surveys, and BIM (Building Information Modeling) for road design, have considerably fastened the pre-construction period.
These technologies like driver speed cameras, CCTV systems, and driving assistance systems are making road safety better. Energy-efficient lighting methods, LED street lights included, are being implemented to cut down on energy consumption and provide cost-saving maintenance solutions. These smart roads are not only conceptualized for energy generation but also they have a role to play in ensuring a greener planet.
Conclusion
In conclusion, India is making significant strides in road and bridge infrastructure development through initiatives like Bharatmala Pariyojana, Sagarmala Programme, and Gati Shakti National Master Plan. These projects aim to enhance connectivity, lower logistics costs, and position India as a global economic leader, with a focus on sustainability and innovative technologies to drive progress.

Uttarkashi Tunnel Collapse - Presentation
Title: Mathematical Analysis of the destruction
Guide: Mrs. Meenu, Mathematics teacher
1. What Could be the Potential Cause of Tunnel Collapse?
About:
The Silkyara-Barkot tunnel is part of the ambitious Char Dham all-weather road project of the Central Government.
The construction of the tunnel was tendered to Hyderabad-headquartered Navayuga Engineering Company by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL), a fully owned company of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Government of India.
2. Potential Causes of Tunnel Collapse:
The exact cause of the tunnel collapse is yet to be ascertained, but a possible factor could be:
▪️The collapsed section, situated around 200-300 meters from the tunnel mouth, might have contained a hidden loose patch of fractured or weak rock, undetectable during construction.
▪️Water seepage through this compromised rock could have eroded it over time, creating an unseen void atop the tunnel structure.
3. What are the Critical Aspects of Tunnel Construction?
▪️Tunnel Excavation Techniques:
• Drill and Blast Method (DBM): Involves drilling holes into rock and detonating explosives to break it apart.
• DBM is often used in regions like the Himalayas (Jammu & Kashmir and Uttarakhand) due to the challenging terrain.
• Tunnel-Boring Machines (TBMs): It bore through rock while supporting the tunnel behind with precast concrete segments. It is a more expensive but safer method.
• TBMs are ideal when the rock cover is up to 400 metres tall. Underground tunnels for the Delhi Metro were dug using a TBM at shallow depth.
4. Aspects in Tunnel Construction:
¹Rock Investigation: Thoroughly examining the rock's strength and composition through seismic waves and petrographic analysis to assess its load-bearing capacity and stability.
²Monitoring and Support: Continuous monitoring using stress and deformation meters, along with various support mechanisms like shotcrete, rock bolts, steel ribs, and specialized tunnel pipe umbrellas.
³Geologist Assessments: Independent geologists play a crucial role in examining the tunnel, predicting potential failures, and determining the rock's stability duration.
5. What are the Other Major Tunnels in India?
¹Atal Tunnel: Atal Tunnel (also known as Rohtang Tunnel) is a highway tunnel built under the Rohtang Pass in the eastern Pir Panjal range of the Himalayas on the Leh-Manali Highway in Himachal Pradesh, India.
At a length of 9.02 km, it is the longest tunnel above 10,000 feet (3,048 m) in the world.
²Pir Panjal Railway Tunnel: This 11.2 km long tunnel is India's longest transportation railway tunnel.
It runs through the Pir Panjal mountain range between Quazigund and Baramulla.
³Jawahar Tunnel: It is also called Banihal Tunnel. The length of the tunnel is 2.85 km.
The tunnel facilitates round-the-year road connectivity between Srinagar and Jammu.
⁴Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee Road Tunnel: It was previously known as Chenani-Nashri Tunnel and is the longest road tunnel of India. The length of this road tunnel is 9.3 km.
6. Way Forward
¹Regular Maintenance: Implement a stringent maintenance schedule, including inspections for structural integrity, drainage systems, and ventilation to identify and rectify issues promptly.
Employ sensors and monitoring technologies to continuously assess structural health, detecting any potential weaknesses or anomalies early.
Risk Assessment and Preparedness: Conducting third party risk assessments periodically, considering geological, environmental, and usage factors.
Developing contingency plans and emergency protocols in case of any structural concerns.
²Training and Awareness: Training personnel in tunnel management and emergency response procedures. Public awareness campaigns can educate users and nearby residents about safety measures and reporting mechanisms.
³Technology Integration: Explore innovative technologies like Artificial Intelligence, drones, or robotics for more efficient inspections, maintenance, and early detection of potential issues.

1. Handicrafts from Tibet and the Himalayas Kullu-Manali has a thriving rural culture and tradition, which is reflected in their handicrafts. The handcraft sector employs a sizable portion of the people. Mohras (deity masks), decorations, and household items are among the products sought by travelers.
Slippers made of straw and grass are also on the list. There’s also the Tibetan Market, which has an excellent selection of arts, handicrafts, jewelry, and antiques. Kashmiri Gift House is another outlet that sells these goods at reasonable and inexpensive pricing.
2. Woolen Clothes If you’re seeking warm woolens, Manali is the place to go. This hill station is a woolen shopping paradise, offering the highest quality, softest, and most comfortable woolen clothes. Whether you’re seeking cardigans, mufflers, stoles, or gloves, Manali’s marketplaces are best.
Visit the Manu Market during the winter months to see the busiest market activity ever. The shops are teeming with tourists attempting to haggle with sellers in order to get the greatest deal. 3. Prayer wheels Despite Ladakh’s recognition, prayer wheels are freely accessible in Manali’s stores. To get one, go to the Tibet store in Siyal, which only sells Tibetan souvenirs and products. These metal prayer wheels are revered, and spinning one is thought to bring good luck.
People believe that the prayer wheels are hollow on the inside, but few realize that the wheels contain papers with Buddhist prayers scribbled on them. Prayer wheels have a unique charm that makes them ideal souvenirs and gifts. 4. Kesar Many valuable Himalayan herbs, such as Kesar or saffron, can be found in Kullu-Manali. It is the most expensive spice used in a variety of dishes. It is extracted from a specific Himalayan flower, dried, and then sold in the market.
Genuine Kesar provides health benefits, and its great demand is the primary reason for its high price. Purchase Kesar from a reputable shop in Manali, even if it is a little pricey. On the roadways, you will frequently come across persons offering to sell Kesar at significantly lower prices. When purchasing from street vendors, exercise caution. They can easily deceive you into purchasing something that is not Kesar.
