Ahhhhhh! It really does feel real!!

Q. Hulu leaving multiple comments. The official insta account using photos of everyone's canon partner in their new post and using Eddie for Buck's. The official insta account posting a pic of that specific trio. Aisha posting more photos of that trio. I mean I feel like I'm crazy but this kinda screams pattern! Right? Am I crazy??

A. My ask box is an insane mix of pure joy and other people screaming at me like I'm the one who made those posts for 911. Hi, anon! It does feel like an intentional pattern. Again, for all of the people screaming at me, I know we don't have confirmation of anything and I'm not saying we do. But it does feel like a coordinated, strategc, purposeful campaign. It feels like a soft launch. It's not overt. It's not direct. It's just kind of a constant stream of content that is easily used for multiple purposes but also contains specific themes and patterns. That's essentially what a soft launch is. Several people dismissed the Hulu comment as an accident saying the moderator misspoke. They claimed the comment would get deleted once the higher ups found out about it. Well not only did it not get deleted they made another public comment. So it clearly was intentional and not a mistake. The insanely positive and rapid response to yesterday's picture of Aisha, Oliver and Ryan (it's already received well over 70,000 likes) was crazy. The overwhelming majority of the comments are very 'look at the LGB squad' and they're very positive. That post received by far the fastest response of any post they've made so far this off season. And none of the reaction was negative. None of the comments were negative. They were 90% LGBT focused and overwhelmingly positive. The moderators did not find those comments surprising. They knew what the comments would be like before they posted the picture. None of them were taken by surprise by the fact that people view Eddie as part of the rainbow squad. Aisha posted a collage of pics of the three of them from the previous seasons today on her Instagram account as well. Not an accident.

Today's 911 post was very interesting. Each character they used followed a specific pattern. A singular pic, a friend pic of some kind, a pic representing the real life version of their name, and a canon partner pic. Now, currently Tommy is Buck's canon partner. There were pics of them available to use. They chose to use Eddie. That was an intentional choice. A choice that they knew would be noticeable to everyone. Again, they knew that before they posted the picture. It wasn't an accident. It wasn't an oversight. They intentionally used a photo of Buck and Eddie. I already have people saying they only used that pic because the show clearly likes that pic. They pointed out that that particular photo has been used a lot for promos. Technically that's correct. But you know what other photo has been used quite a bit? Buck's first kiss with a man. That photo was readily available to use and they chose to not use it. I have other people saying they just needed to include Eddie somehow and that was the easiest way. Nope. The easiest way was the group/friend pic route. I mean with Buck it was the obvious easiest way to work Eddie in. Instead they opted to use him in the partner photo for Buck. Again, deliberate, intentional choices. Now regarding all the comments I received on the medal photo that clearly has him cropped out, I don't know what to tell you. It was a photo for Hen, and he was at the very end of the frame, it made sense to cut him out. He has nothing to do with Hen. That being said though they didn't need to use that particular pic for her so It was certainly an interesting choice. And it was another choice they knew would be noticeable. Again, this all feels very purposeful. But we shall see. I can't understand why a certain someone's cousin didn't make them aware of all of this. Oh wait yes I can because there is no cousin. Silly me.

I'm curious to see the Family Feud episode even more now. They clearly intended to hold it until the week before the premier. It's obviously meant to be used as a promo. Every time celebrities are on that show they play for a charity. I won't be surprised if the 911 charity is an LGBTQ charity. Wouldn't that be an interesting addition to the pattern.

So this was supposed to be part of my other fop post but it got way too long (both posts did tbh) and is a different topic than the other one. So yeah here’s a bunch of random thoughts about the show in general from what I’ve seen of it. For context I’ve only seen the first 4-5 episodes + “Battle of the Dimmsonian” + the Cosmo-Wanda-Peri scenes in “Lost in Fairy World” and “Operation: Birthday Takeback”.

SPOILERS for “Operation: Birthday Takeback” for the last three dashes (2.4k words below):

- Putting it in first since it’s still related to Peri but I’m pretty amused by the whole “Tumblr sexyman” situation. I mean, less than two weeks ago all canon pics we had of him were baby pics. It’s the same deal when I see people call him a father figure to Dev, I can’t help but be like “wdym father figure? He’s barely an adult! He’s too young!”

It’s like imagine you have a neighbor who have a baby when you’re 9-10, then they move out and 20 years later you meet their kid as an adult. You can clearly tell they’re an adult and treat them as such but also it’s a bit weird bc your last and only memories of them were of a baby. Idk, I see Peri’s character as an adult but also he’s still a bit of a kid, you know? I feel like I explain this better in the other post tbh.

- In retrospect it’s also very funny to see how, when people talk about the decline of fop, they point at the inclusion of the new characters, including Poof. Yet look where we are now! If you thought the baby was the problem, apologize to him, now! /j

But yeah more seriously, personally I never minded Poof. He was definitely a useless addition, like outside of the handful of episodes focused on him he mostly just stands there looking at the other characters, but he was also a cute baby, so I’ve always been fine with him being around. He’s a useless but inoffensive addition, and I think the decline of the show around that time had less to do with him and more to do with the writing as a whole.

- Last thing about Peri before moving on to the show in general, which tbh I could've put in the other post: I've seen people talk about the idea of Hazel and Dev switching fairies and I kind of agree with it.

Not only because Cosmo and Wanda have the experience needed to help a kid like Dev (though it wouldn't be all sunshine and rainbows) while Hazel's situation is easier for Peri, but also it's worth noting that Dev needs a parental figure, which Cosmo and Wanda can be, while Hazel misses her older brother, who Peri is around the same age of. Idk, I feel like this could work, or at least make things easier for everyone involved (but also especially for Dev).

- Something I originally wanted to put in the tags of the other post but fuck it: I’m really not a fan of them releasing the episodes so soon one after the other. With serialized shows, I’m always been more of a fan of having an episode a week you can chew on and theorize about, rather than being given everything at once. Also it takes a while for the cargo to get on the ships if you catch my drift.

I’d also complain about seeing all those plot-related episodes one after the other with none of the more casual stories in-between that give us more character moments, but honestly that’s on me for looking up spoilers.

- Going to the early show, I think the first episode is such a good introduction! I especially like the amount of focus on Cosmo and Wanda, it’s good to have them reintroduced given how flanderized they became in the og show. I’m especially happy with Cosmo! He arguably had it worse than Wanda in the og and it’s so good to see him shine this much in this first episode (also I love his human form having a bit of a gut)! On that note, they did a fantastic job having them around a lot while still giving Hazel enough time to be introduced properly and get us to care about her as the MC!

But yeah I really like this first episode, fantastic beginning to the show! The only issue I “really” have with it is the way Cosmo and Wanda go back to being godparents just because Hazel made a strong enough wish or something, it felt a bit arbitrary rather than them just telling her who they are.

And on that note, big fan of that one scene where they immediately notice her trying to run away and try to talk her out of it. I love the contrast between them starting off as disasters being barely capable of passing off as humans at the beginning of the episode, and them being perfectly in their element the second they start talking to Hazel about her running away in this scene. It’s such a good way to see how much experience they have with taking care of kids!

- I’m not going to go episode by episode but one thing that bothers me a lot in the second one is that rule of “kids should get whatever they wish for”. Doesn’t that...go against the whole concept of having rules in the first place???

They should’ve replaced it with something along the lines of “a kid should always get the fairy that fits them the best”, not only bc it would work perfectly well for the episode, but also from what I’ve heard Foop (now Irep) is coming back and I could 100% see him use that rule to his advantage given Peri and Dev were such a bad match (I’m guessing anti-fairies don’t actually follow Da Rules but maybe they could still use it as an excuse regardless since fairies do have to follow them or something?)

- Call we talk about the fact Hazel is clearly autistic? Like is this a canon thing in the show? Are there people out there talking about it? No because seriously:

The fidget toys (Cosmo and Wanda’s disguises), her special interest for rocks, her anxiety over making new friends which is reinforced as uncommon when that one girl she befriends comments on how easy and not scary it is to approach other people (also Hazel’s “what am I supposed to talk about with them? School lunches?” comment in the teachers friend episode), her liking for fries which could be seen as her being potentially picky (bit of a stretch tho), her comment about liking the DMV if only for the reaction she gets that makes her seem “different”, her struggles to come up with a wish on the fly with minimal/vague instructions (episode 2), her character arc throughout the show apparently having to do with her not wanting things to change (me too girl), her being considered mature for her age, the angry outbursts when things don’t go how she hoped, pretty sure there’s also a lot of stimming that I have yet to pick up on (see if any of them repeat often). Like, there’s no way ALL of that was a coincidence!

I’d also like to mention at the beginning of the Dino episode, when her dad is explaining things to her, he starts talking louder and louder in excitement until his wife tells him to quiet down. Makes me think her dad’s likely neurodivergent as well. Also this moment hurts my soul a bit, as someone who’s both been on the receiving end of it and done it to someone else, in both cases it sucks.: /

- Took me until like episode 4 to realize the town she lives in is named after the Dimmadomes, with the hat in it (the very first shot of the intro). Also you can see their infinite house in the background, both in that shot and the show in general, and I absolutely adore that they committed so hard to this joke! That giant ambiguously-shaped-like-a-hat skyscraper that we never see the top of is just *chief kiss*.

- On that note Dev’s introduction in the first episode made me laugh, if only for the references. I also find it kinda funny he has such a big speaking role considering he doesn’t do anything for the rest of the pilot and the next few episodes. Then again I guess it’s in character for him to make such a show of introducing himself.

- Still on general stuff, I’m a bit curious about how the timeline went in regards to Cosmo and Wanda retiring and going on vacation “right after” Timmy (iirc they don’t voice it like that in the show). Like I’m having a hard time believing they would just ditch their then-child son to go on vacation, and then come back when he’s an adult. So I ended up having a bunch of headcanons.

Basically, after leaving Timmy they do take what was supposed to be a short leave to think of their future since it feels strange to get a new kid after so long with the same one + I like the idea that Cosmo and Wanda’s marriage did suffer while living with Timmy and they want to work on it before getting a new kid (the whole thing about them feeling confined, made worse if the “stopping time for 50 years” wish is canon) + Poof/Peri is struggling with the reality of having to leave Timmy behind and is nervous about his parents having a new godkid because of it.

Eventually they decide to retire, got to marriage counseling, possibly get Poof/Peri into therapy, and raise their son until he’s an older teen/young adult, at which point they leave for their vacation. And while the vacation is 10 thousand years for them, it’s like, 5 years at max in their present. And in that meantime, Peri starts his godparents studies (or however it works), leaves the house and changes his name.

Btw Cosmo and Wanda would 100% invite him to the vacation, he’d just refuse in a mix between wanting to be away from his parents for once, wanting to maybe surprise them a bit with his work and/or just get started with work, and not knowing how long the vacation would be. He’d also probably tell them to just use this time as some new honeymoon to finish rebuilding their marriage (though by that point it must’ve gone back to being strong). Oh and Cosmo and Wanda would send Peri postcards every so often, which would also let him know how long they’ve been gone.

Once they come back from vacation, I’d imagine there’s like less than a month between them “moving to the human world” and meeting Hazel, hence why they didn’t reconnect with Peri. They didn’t really know how to contact him and were busy with the move, and afterwards they had a godkid to take care of so they couldn’t exactly go back to Fairyworld.

As for Peri, he hears through the gravepine that his parents are back, and would be happy until he realizes they’ve been gone for 10 thousand years, hence him freaking out about meeting them again (he doesn’t know how much they might’ve changed with how long it’s been). Also he can’t contact them bc he’d hear about them coming back due to them taking in Hazel, meaning they’re in the human world and he doesn’t know where. Also he might be intimidated to contact them, which doesn’t help his decision-making.

So yeah, that’s all for how I could imagine this whole vacation thing going and how it fits with them having a child.

- Since I’m talking about Cosmo and Wanda’s marriage, I’ve heard about the whole “they fixed their marriage” before watching the show and oh my god I can’t get over how fucking adorable those two are in this show!!! I fucking love them.

- And on that note I’m incredibly amused that this show had the balls to reference the mpreg. Twice. Especially since it doesn’t even specify the whole “that’s just how fairies work”! In the eyes of people who never watched the og show, “A New Wish” just casually dropped the fact that Cosmo’s a trans man (bc let’s be real, how else are you supposed to interpret those lines if you haven’t watched the og show?) or you get the vibe that the writers wanted to make him trans (+ Wanda by proxy since she’s Peri’s bio mom) but weren’t allowed so that’s how they got past the censors.

And I love this because you just know Hartman would be furious about it! With our current society more aware of trans people and how men can in fact get pregnant, I could definitely see him sweep the whole mpreg thing under the rug, hoping people would forget about his “”accidentally-progressive”” (and also very sexist 😒) episode, but nope! New show said Cosmo was pregnant and gave birth! And better yet it didn’t even elaborate further! It just goes “btw this guy has an uterus and was once pregnant, here’s his bio child if you need more proof” and then walks on like nothing happened, I love it!

- Going back to the episodes talk for the last three dashes, there’s that shot at the very end of “Operation: Birthday Takeback” that I really dislike. It’s the one when Dev lashes out on Peri, with him hovering over Peri who’s laying on the ground in fear.

Really not a big fan of this shot bc 1. It makes Dev look way too much like a villain, especially with the way Peri’s laying like a servant that gets beaten up, and 2. Peri, honey, you’re a grown ass man; why are you so scared of that 10 years old scarred kid that’s lashing out while in a very vulnerable mental state? What are you doing on the ground buddy? I’m not asking for him to fight back but at least stand up! Don’t act like that kid can actually hurt you! Btw I’m completely fine with Peri afterwards looking like a dejected puppy (after Dev makes his wish), it’s just that one shot with him on the ground that I dislike.

- Obviously I’m genuinely curious to see how things are going to go in the next episodes (which apparently air tonight?). Like obviously Dev is going to spiral but if you have a scene at school how will it go? How will Hazel feel about the whole thing? What about Peri? Is he going to be gone for a few episodes? Be a temporary third fairy to Hazel? Crash at Cosmo and Wanda’s for a while?

(Personally I’m hoping for the third option, it would be a good way to still give him appearances to show the main plot’s still going without giving him to much screentime, which could take away from Hazel. Also given how much he wants to appear independent, I don’t see him being a third fairy to her, though I think he’d be ok with staying at his parents for a bit, if only for emotional support (though tbh I doubt they’ll do that, most likely he’ll be doing his own thing off-screen for an episode or two). Also I want to see a “human” design for him)

OK so I wrote this yesterday before the Irep episode came out, so on one hand nevermind all that but on the other hand I’m letting it in bc I AM curious as to how things are going to evolve with our main cast, especially with Dev spiraling and pushing both his bestie and fairy away.

- Btw is nobody going to talk about how Vicky’s dress might be a reference to one of the “Oh Yeah” shorts?

- VERY LAST SECOND ADDITION, SPOILERS FOR IREP: So yesterday before I finished both this and the other post the new episodes dropped, with a few clips shared on Tumblr. And OH MY GOD IREP’S DESIGN!!! The fact that they kept him as a cube makes me so happy!!! I was HOPING at least ONE part of him would be a cube and they delivered!!! He looks like absolulte dogshit I love it!!! Bc yeah for some reason I remember Foop as a character you’re not supposed to take seriously at all? And as a result I really like how stupid Irep looks. A+ design right there! /gen

April Fools with the Lions: Best Bits

Omg. Hello? It’s so nice to be back! In honour of April Fools and the discord having a bit of fun with it, I bring you… April Fools with the Lions: Best bits!

Logan rubbed his eyes, waking up fully. Leo curled into his neck at the movement. He looked over to find Finn’s side completely empty. Leo stirred once again and looked up at Logan with a sleepy smile.

Logan squinted at Leo, wondering if he was seeing things.

“Leo, why do you have lion face paint on?” Leo’s face was fully painted, as though he had been to Katie’s birthday party and had been forced to sit down and have his face painted during it.

“Why do you look like a zebra?” Leo asked, just as confused as Logan.

Logan grabbed his phone off of the nightstand and opened up his camera. Sure enough, an intricately painted zebra looked back at him.

He messaged Finn, asking if he woke up the same.

All that was sent back was a smile emoji sent by Siri.

“You’re going to walk into the rink like that?” Nat asked Kasey, who was sporting a dolphin and a rainbow across the side of his face.

“I need to find Finn before Finn finds me.” Kasey called back. “I know Alex didn’t do this on his own. He has about as much artistic talent as I do in my little toe.”

Kasey and Nat never did find Finn before practice. They did, however, find a Lion stood dead centre of the locker room looking at the Goalies TPed stalls.

“If this was you, you need to do better next year.” Kasey laughed, clapping Leo on the shoulder. Leo laughed.

“No no no. This was Cole and Layla. They were round the corner watching me come in here thinking I didn’t see them.

“Time to recruit Nat, I think,” Kasey whispered to Leo and pulled out his phone.

“Layla I have no clue what to do. I can’t go out on the ice like this. I thought I was being nice by just TPing Kasey’s stall!”

Layla only covered her mouth to suppress a chuckle, watching Cole panic over his now upside down name and number on his jersey.

“All is fair in love and war, Rookie!” Kasey howled through the door, Nat howling after him.

Pascal let out a frustrated groan. Some the start of practice, not a single one of his shot found the back of the net. Timmy let out a similar sigh, taking his helmet off and wiping the perspiration off his head.

“It’s playoff season! We can’t be doing this,” he gridded out. He watched Finn line up a perfect shot, only to miss as well. Looking over to Coach Weasley, he wondered why he wasn’t angrier. He looked amused, even.

Pascal looked down at his hockey stick. Something felt… off. He held it out in front of him, Timmy and Kuny doing the same.

“It feels small.” Evgeni stated.

Pascal looked up at the rest of the team to find the Triple Threat of April Fools, Remus, Sirius and James, grinning back at them.

“You know, when I locked Remus and Sirius in my basement, I did not expect to be paid back like this.”

“Luke! Luke!”

Luke ran into the bathroom, only to burst out laughing upon finding Saint with bright red hair.

“Was this you?” Saint’s face like thunder, he pointed to his bright red hair. Luke fought to keep a straight face and shook his head.

“I promise it wasn’t. Now hurry up, I need to shower as well.”

Two hours later, Saint and Luke rocked up to practice, looking like Rangers biggest fans sporting bright red and bright blue hair. Logan was unable to make a shot that practice, for he was laughing so hard at the coloured sweat dripping down both their necks. He snapped a pic for Leo, his only partner in fools it would seem…

Remus and Sirius made a habit of turning up to practice early. Maybe it was the quiet before the storm, maybe it was the control of having the rink to themselves. One thing they did know, however, was that they liked the rink before anyone started playing the practice session joint playlist. ‘Game Day Vibes’ they called it. A playlist comprising of songs from everyone’s repertoire.

Once the rink was full, Coach allowed the playlist to be put on. Except all that rang through the rink was… a nursery rhyme?

Remus looked over at Finn who was in charge of the playlist. He pressed skip. Finn looked up in confusion as a musical rendition of ‘incy wincy spider’ played out.

“Who, in the ever loving fuck put this in the playlist?” Jackson called out, skating round next to Finn as he frantically scrolled through the playlist. “It’s just nursery rhymes…”

James was doubled over in the far corner, something akin to ‘don’t diss my son’s music taste’ coming out in amongst gasps of laughter.

James had his playlist privileges revoked for 6 weeks.

“So we did the ducks last year, what are we doing to Remus and Sirius this year, Dumo?” Julian asked, placing his cereal bowl in the dishwasher.

Pascal thought on it, scratching his head.

Katie bounded in with multiple chain links in Rangers colours.

“Look what I made for Logan, Papa!” She held them up with a big toothy smile. Well, almost toothy. She had a visit from the tooth fairy the previous night.

Jules’ eyes widened and looked over at Pascal, who responded with his own fully toothy grin.

“Go get your brothers and sister, Katie. We have work to do.”

Remus and Sirius returned from practice to find their entire front room decked out in Rangers merch, chain links hanging from each light and across the ceiling.

“I swear as soon as Logan and I meet on the ice again…” Sirius looked over at Remus, “it’s war.”

Remus chuckled and pulled out his phone to find a message from Dumo.

‘Thanks for the key, it’s under the flower pot’

Everyone was gathered in Sid’s for their monthly get together. Some of the Rangers had made the trip down as well. Thomas was sat at the bar, his arm hooked loosely around Noelle’s waist.

“So no one managed to get either of the brothers?” She whispered in his ear.

Thomas smiled back at her, eyes softened as he moved a strand of hair behind her ear.

“Not yet. Did you manage to get the video?”

Noelle pulled her phone out of her bag and showed it to Thomas.

“It’s hilarious, T. Me and Nat were in stitches.” Thomas smiled slyly, placed a kiss on Noelle’s forehead, and walked up the the little make shift entertainment stage.

“Can I please have everyone’s attention!” He called out, arms wide. Mutters of ‘speech!’ were called out across the bar, paired with smattering’s of applause.

“Now with the close of another successful year of April Fools, we have this years standings. At the bottom, with the most unoriginal prank I think any of us have ever seen, we have Cole and Layla, who took it upon themselves to TP Knutty and Blizz’s goals.”

A round of ‘boo’s’ swept across the bar.

“Yes, yes, thank you. Do better next year” Cole and Layla had their heads in their hands looking mortified.

“Before I reveal the winner, I have one last thing I would like to do. Who here has been personally victimised by a certain pair of red-headed brothers this year?” Hands went up, Logan the Zebra’s face like thunder as people turned around to chuckle at him.

“Yes, now. I set Christmas on a task a week ago. Big love, Noelle,” he held a glass up to her and winked. “A little birdy once told us that our very own Alexander and Finnigan have their own pregame ritual they started when they were kids. Their mom and dad were more than happy to share this video with us-“

“No no no- please Walker I’m begging you,” Finn called out, laughter clinging onto his every word. Alex’s jaw was on the floor.

“If you’d please turn your attention to the screen.”

An old video played. A young Alex was instructing their parent to sit on the couch whilst Finn was in the background rewinding the tv to the perfect moment. The pair did an almost perfect rendition of the handshake from the parent trap.

Thomas looked back at Finn and Alex who were doubled over in laughter.

Okay! Time to spill the tea, except it's not really tea, it's more like lukewarm juice aka my future plans and some more ramblings.. ahem ⚆_⚆

First of all, I wanna say just how much I enjoyed creating Somnium. It all started during lockdown... I found myself working from home full-time, I had the perfect excuse to be the homebody I was born to be, I had a lot of time on my hands, and once I found simblr I couldn't resist joining in. It didn't take too long before I decided to hop on the storytelling train and before I knew it, I had a new hobby! Except.. that hobby kinda consumed me. I didn't even know where it was going to begin with, but the more involved I got, the more obsessed I became. Hyperfixations amirite?

The point being.. I think I spent a little too much time on Somnium, which left me little time for much else and I don't want to fall down that hole again. In the future I'd like to challenge my perfectionism! What does that mean? Well, it means not making poses for every scene, it means not being restricted by a complicated overarching plot that requires forced filler scenes and timelines and needs to make sense, it means less dialogue, or gasp! no dialogue at all, it means not getting hung up on continuity with editing and g-shade and font style and blah blah etc etc. I'd even like to incorporate some gameplay too, since I miss just.. playing now n' then.

I want the freedom to think of something silly, or weird, or completely off topic and to be able to run with it instead of being bound by a plot that needs to progress. Am I making sense? I hope I'm making sense. Basically, I'm calling this next venture a "story not story" because rather than it having one large plot, it's going to be more like clusters of subplots with some gameplay, weirdness or silliness in between...

Forever In Between will kick off around about two years after the events of Somnium. Mostly focused on Oscar and his family, we'll join them on the journey of life as Robin and his siblings grow up in the Bay.

We'll also spend some time with other favourites too like Noah n' co. Salton, Ivan & Bruno, Suzie, Miya & [redacted] and Matilda, among others! Maybe we'll even see what Wyatt's up to at some point 👀 As we all know, life isn't always sunshine and rainbows, but Forever In Between (or fib for short) will be a lot less heavy, though hopefully no less interesting!

Obviously, I don't have any set plans but I have a few specific scenes and ideas in mind already, as well as some vague subplots planned for most, if not all of the main characters from Somnium.

Also! Although Oscar is very much still a main character, he'll be sharing the spotlight with Robin too, as I have a lot in mind for that special lil' guy.. tehe!

So, what's next?! I want to make a lil promo before I start and then I've gotta.. y'know, actually start working on it. I have the first few scenes in mind but then we're wingin' it baby! The best plan is no plan and all that... I'm being kind to myself though, so idk when we'll start, real soon though!

I've already given everyone makeovers and gotten a few of the main builds out of the way, enough for me to get started at least, and I'd like to make a new navigation/pinned post too.

I wanna be more organised as well, so story posts will be tagged as "forever in between" & "fib" and bloopers, extras, builds, cas pics etc etc. will be tagged as "fib" & "fib extras"!

God forbid there are colors

Literally.

I’m begging y’all celebrating Pride to be as loud and proud as you can, not just because you deserve to celebrate, but because people in churches are full of the most paranoid, self-centered idiocy about it to the point where I got woken up unnecessarily early today for an “emergency” to cater to said idiocy. And if I have to hear paranoid screaming about Pride first thing in the morning, you’re damn right I want everyone to have the biggest, loudest, most joyful Pride month yet.

Context: Among my side gigs, I’m webmaster for a few churches’ websites, because a paycheck’s a paycheck, it’s not too demanding of my time, and my work is the reason they have all their sermons and events live-streamed/archived on their sites every week in case, y’know, they’re ever saying shit that might involve someone looking into their tax-exempt status.

I usually set up all the back-end video streaming stuff on Saturday and try to use a topical picture from our photo subscription as a background for both the video thumbnail and the post thumbnail. As requested, I also try to post the service bulletins along with the videos, but one pastor has a habit of not sending me the bulletin before my midnight-the-night-before deadline, so at that point it’s agreed that I’ll just use a seasonal nature picture as the thumbnail photo and upload the bulletin whenever I get around to it on Sunday. (Most of the photos for that church, consequently, end up being nature photos.)

This morning, Housemate #2 — who is on a million committees in that church with Housemate #1 — comes screaming into my room at ass o’clock, telling me I need to fix the website now, the pastor even contacted her about it, etc. etc. (I don’t believe her because she said she couldn’t show me a text or email because she “deletes them immediately” — and also the pastor emailed me the bulletin/notes to add to the post long after the post was already up yesterday and didn’t say a word about any fixes needed.)

Y’all. She was mad because the image on this week’s post was a “rainbow.” To be clear, it was this: 

So of course, I’m like, “...??? It’s a field of flowers.” Because it’s a field of flowers that’s colorful, but pretty damn clearly not a rainbow. 100% wasn’t even on my radar as rainbow — my search term in our image subscription was “summer.” (Housemate even went to a flower festival a few weeks ago and hinted that I should use a very similar photo that she took the next time I needed a nature pic for this church’s video thumbnail.)

But she’s insisting this picture is basically a rainbow and they can’t have anything that looks like Pride and how could I do this, I clearly did this on purpose, change it now to something that can’t be misconstrued, etc.

Fine. Wake me up, invade my space, scream, be bigoted, falsely accuse me of malicious intent ... Cue malicious compliance.

She’s hovering over me as I open up the church’s image subscription and all the places I need to go change settings and whatever to update the site. I conspicuously type in “summer” so she can see that this pops up among totally inappropriate ones like beach balls and kids playing in sprinklers. I point it out to her and start scrolling through the images to find a different nature pic. She tries to point out other ones.

“Use that one.”

“I’ve already used that one.” (Just a few weeks ago, in fact. They do not want repeat images.)

“What about that one?” She points to a different field of flowers that is actually the lesbian flag. Like, actually, obviously the lesbian flag. Housemate is not up on these things because she is too pure to know such sordid details; she only knows rainbows = gay = bad. As funny as this would be, I guarantee there would actually be screaming from people if I posted a literal lesbian pride flag made of flowers instead of a random colorful field of flowers, so I decide to save myself a little trouble and point out the issue.

“Lesbian pride flag.”

“This one?”

“Too small.” (I pull it up on the canvas and resize, to demonstrate that it turns into unintelligible pixel hell.)

“Here. These are flowers. They’re pink, yellow, and blue.”

“That is literally the pan pride flag.”

“What the hell is that?”

“Pansexual. Pride. Flag.” I pull up a picture of that so she can see.

“Well, it’s Trinity Sunday, search for that instead.”

I do. There’s a few too-small pictures of doves and a bunch of triskele and triquetra knots. She points to one of those. “There. The Trinity symbol. Use that.”

“That’s a pagan symbol. I wouldn’t want that to be misconstrued.” Incidentally, I point out, as I open the middle-of-the-night email with the bulletin boasting a similar picture, someone should probably remind the pastor about that since he’s so worried about people misinterpreting images as something non-Christian.

She’s grinding her teeth at this point. “That’s different. That has words [Father, Son, Holy Spirit] around it.”

“It’s still a very recognizable appropriated pagan symbol. Or would you be fine posting a swastika just because it has different words around it?”

We go back to nature photos.

“Try this one.”

“That’s really close to the bi pride flag, you know.”

“HERE. THIS ONE.”

Very thick pale pink and white flowers ... under a blue sky. Hmm. Looks very much like the trans pride flag, if I’m honest. She’s pissed, and housemates are going to be late for church soon.

“There. Those white daisies.”

“Yeah, we can do that, but you should know this picture does look like the agender pride flag if you’re just glancing at the colors.”

“I don’t care. I don’t know what that is. Nobody normal knows what that is, they’re not going to misconstrue it.”

“Hmm, I don’t know, since apparently that was the issue with the first picture, but I’ll use this one.” I upload it and fix all the things that need to be fixed on various platforms for everything to update. She stomps out and I go back to sleep.

Five minutes later she’s back, waving her phone in my face. “YOU DIDN’T CHANGE THE PICTURE! IT’S STILL THE RAINBOW PICTURE! CHANGE IT NOW!”

This is two times I’ve been given a mini-heart attack this morning by someone barging into my space while I’m trying to sleep, and she’s lucky she hasn’t gotten maced on instinct. “You watched me change the picture. Clear your browser cache.”

“I don’t know how to do that. Change the picture!”

I grab my laptop again, go to the website, and show her the picture is changed. I rattle off an explanation of why she needs to clear her phone’s browser cache, which I have given her several times before, and remind her she’s late. She blanks out at anything tech-talk and leaves. Totally looking forward to getting more screaming about this later. 🙃

You know, that “rainbow” picture was 100% an honest mistake, but I think part of this week’s pay from that church specifically is going to go to an actual rainbow shirt from an LGBT-owned shop. ✌️

Chicago Sparks Rambles!!!

It was so slay to meet Claire @rhythmthlef Eiffel @thedevotionaltour and Sarah @ron-do-i-get-to-sing-my-way and to ofc be with my bff Alissa @taintmansion . Everyone looked so yass and slay and our group pic got on the insta story!

Also shoutout to @churippu who was so sweet and gave us the grooviest stickers in the merch line! I can’t wait to find a place for my sparkly suit Russell.

I NEVER go crazy at merch tables and have spent months not going to the movies, buying records, or eating out, so I got… 3 t-shirts, a tote bag, socks, and the pin set 💪 I love all my swag!

ofc last year in Chicago (same venue) was a bit more subdued all around energy wise bc it was still during COVID but the crowd was great this time. I wish we’d stood earlier (seated venues are like that sometimes) but the people in the front row were up dancing like crazy the whole time and other people were dancing in the aisles!

Those first few opening songs obviously went hard but I was LIVINGGGGGG during Beaver and Ron’s piano/Stevie’s drums in Nothing Is As Good As They Say It Is were fire. And Russell’s vocals in general jesus! How do u do that dude!!!

It Doesn’t Have To Be That Way has meant a lot to me personally for various reasons - mainly, I’ve felt weird and uncool my whole life and I find my passion in meaning in making art and using that art to connect with people who DO understand me - and so Russell was just introducing it and I started crying and cried the whole song 😭

Then cut to Balls when we NEEDED to get our fist pumps on!! ✊🟢

I love that they kept Shopping Mall Of Love bc people were screaming for Ronnie like it was Beatlemania. Love that bridge clapping also!

Toughest Girl In Town had one of the coolest arrangements eva god it was beautiful. And We Go Dancing went crazyyyyyyyy like I will never be that in shape in my LIFE

The 1 2 3 punch of Heaven My Way This Town is always godly. I made sure to scream my lungs out during the shuffle wahhhhh.

I can’t remember at what point but like 2/3 through the set maybe? In between songs Russell just starts singing 🎶My kind of town, Chicago🎶 it was really sweet

I wish they’d done the full Gee That Was Fun but the mini version served well as a final pre encore song 🥹

I had forgotten about the rainbow lights during Baby’s so thank god I was recording wahhhhhh that song goes so hard

All That was worse than IDHTBTW like I started sobbing and couldn’t stop until they left the stage 😭 They just mean so much to me!!! And Ron made a lil speech thanking us and said “I know it sounds hackneyed but at this point in the night I can’t avoid sounding hackneyed” and I mean ofc they’d say this but they said “best Chicago visit yet” which was nice

The standing ovation after All That and the pic was like 3-4 minutes long and Alissa commented on it and Claire just went “I could go all night baby!” which like so true

Russell made 🫶🫰 at the audience during this standing o and Alissa just screamed “KPOP KING !”

I stood on my chair and still didn’t get in the pic but Ron was technically on top of me so 💪😌

Random asides: got so many compliments on my Ron outfit! Sparks fans are the nicest! When our group met in the Dunkin a nice blonde woman walking outside flashed me a thumbs up from the window and then she was front row. We actually chatted after and she said she was considering going to Milwaukee last minute. Girl do it!!!! And when I got to merch and said “okay let’s start with the tote bag bc i’m gonna go a little crazy” the person in the left half of the line laughed and was encouraging lol.

Alissa and I waited outside for about half an hour and I guess the guys had been whisked away long beforehand 😅 but we said hi to Evan and Max and they were super nice!

One of the best shows I’ve ever been to. Once of the most meaningful and profound. So glad I have a favorite band. So glad I have great friends to do it all with. Gee That Was Fun (real)

Empathy for the Devil Commentary - Chapter 8

Alright so this is more of a commentary than a re-read? I mean I AM re-reading the chapter, I just haven’t read the rest of the story yet sooooo yeah. Might do a full story re-read later (probably the physical copy, although I might need two so I can just totally write directly in one BUT that’s the same story for another day...)

I already love this pic. Sunset looking cool af, ready to go out to explore the City. Except that, I just remembered it wasn't really Sunset now was it? But it is seen through a mirror, so it reflects the real person inside. Admittedly, I’m not knowledgeable on art. Now this picture could just be based on how shading/lighting works in this scene, but I also see the shading splitting Sunset’s face down the middle. The two sides of Sunset. And/or Our Sunset and The Other Sunset.  Also check out that skyline!

Also also! It could just be Flash! Reading ahead y’know I realize that he’s out there with the others too, looking for Other Sunset. Maybe he likes being Sunset because he actually feels cool and confident and everything that he admires in her? The other two sides of Sunset, the physical and the immaterial.

There was a different path out there for her. The human Sunset confirmed its existence—even if that counterpart didn’t have it all figured out herself.

But you’re already on a different path, aren’t you? And you yourself don’t have it all figured out! Albeit it is a different start, but what’s stopping you from pursuing the path you think you could have taken? Is it that you just need a sign? A living cutie mark in the form of the other you? If you find the other path that the Other Sunset is taking, what would that do? Would it feel right in taking her path too?

She would’ve preferred to take her motorcycle, but given the winter storm, it would’ve been a friskily brisk ride. Too brisk to risk on long distances.

Then again, the sun finally started to peek through the clouds, and even as a winter chill clung to their bodies like wet clothes, the hope of warmth broke through. The staff parking lot smelled like the salt melting the mini-mountains of ice ploughed to the back, the breeze telling tale of voyages yet to be sailed. But then, the school’s back entrance decided instead to have fun with them and reveal Principal Celestia talking to a nodding, attentive Solstice Shiver, who had undone the top button of his dress shirt.

Oh okay I see how it is. You have this description both about Sunset but ALSO about Solstice and Celestia. Celestia warming everyone rn as the sun does, because she warms Solstice (who may or may not be influencing the weather, yes?)

Also, HE’S DRESSED LIKE THAT IN THIS WEATHER? THERE’S DEFINITELY SOMETHING SHADOWY SHADY GOING ON.

Rainbow Dash whispered in Flash’s ear whom first looked at her to confirm he’d heard right, then turned to Applejack to repeat, “We’ll... tell you when you’re older?”

Yes! RD and Flash bonding time! Especially since it’s a neat little callback to an earlier chapter. Flash is slowly becoming one of the Rainbooms.

After a solid extra second of working through complex equations...

This and her reaction when she finally realized what was going on made me laugh, always nice seeing Twilighting. And I thought they just turn teachers off after school? Sure is easier to think that way.

Man, it’s cramped in there! You sure you need all those books?”

All those books can double as a weapon! The best weapon in the world. Make sure you practice your swinging, and also workout your back because it can be heavy... and also also make sure Spike isn’t in there when you do said swinging.

"Yup, a while ago, but yup!"

Amazing. Gloriosa didn't say no backsies or set a time specific to when he could use it sooooo its all good! Loopholes in sibling antics.

Timber frowned at Flash who was currently in Sunset's body but also not in Sunset's clothes. His hoodie looked especially baggy on her frame, but, Sunset supposed, he must've liked it that way. "But uh, how are you going to catch the scent?"

Hmmm... or maybe Flash is still feeling body dysphoria of his own? Not only switching from one person’s body to another, but making it a body of the opposite gender too can eliminate any sense of euphoria you might have had if you like being your other gender. Sunset was Timber, but she was also used to being a pony. Totally different body, so maybe a male body just didn’t phase her compared to that. Poor Flash, first the chub troubles and now this. And maybe he’s ashamed? Doesn’t feel like he deserves to look like Sunset since he looks up to her and the other girls so much.

“Shimmer Beta? Sunshim the Lesser?” Pinkie thought aloud, rubbing her chin. “Sunset 2: Electric Boogaloo? Mmm nah. Sequels are rarely as good as the first.”

Oh my god pinkie, these are great. Gold for sure... and maybe the sequel in this case is veerrrrry not good. Very evil. Evil twins amirite?

As Timber rounded the jeep to the driver’s side and Sunset opened her own door, she let a smile flow onto her face. “Promise not to get too excited when you see the other me? I’m the jealous type.”

Eyup, you sure are Sunset. No doubt about that. But also what if she is hotter than you? Maybe she’s been exercising? Twilight sure did date someone who seemed to be exercising. It could be that the other you is hotter to her. That sure would not help the self-confidence.

Not to be outdone, Sunset shrugged. “Can’t. I’m not in my pants.” And she shut the door before her comeback could be out-sassed any further. 

Checkmate! Love the sass between all these jokers.

“But you’re going to need to be open-minded.”

Sticking the Everfree-mobile into first gear, Timber’s eyes glittered like a treasure lost in the bracken of the woods. “Lucky for you, that’s my specialty.”

It sure seems like it! But what does that mean for this story? Other than he’s  a good... camp counselor... But there’s a lot of potential for where this could go with an open-minded lad like him. Sunset couldn’t have been forced to bond with a better boye.

No dice in her old haunts like the aviary a town over that reminded her of the phoenix aviary she used to hang out with Philomena in, or the tea house a town after that (however they did find a lovely jasmine vanilla tea).

In seeing what Sunset thought could have been potential places to visit, it really feels more like an exercise in bonding with Timber rather than actually trying to find Other Sunset. Philomena and tea? If she wasn’t raised to do all these  things with this Celestia, what are the chances the Other Sunset would have similar interests? Unless its some other high authority figure. Then again, Sunset said as much and they’re just places on the way to the actual more likely destinations.

Ex-Principal Cinch was now a secretary there and the less power that woman had over impressionable youths, the better.

Oh and I totally see this as Sunset taking the opportunity to have the smug satisfaction of seeing what happened to Cinch for herself - I’m sure a conversation with Shining Armor might have come up about what became of her.

As they pulled onto the interstate, they passed a scruffy looking man with a hat constructed from tin-foil and a cardboard sign that read The End of Days is Nigh! All Hail the Crack in the Sky!

Aww... they better go on a real road trip after this mess is over! It’d make for a great summer vacation. After all he’s done and everything and all I’m sure is going to happen, Timber deserves it.

Seems like Timber isn’t the only one experiencing new things. I was judgey at first but really it’s easy to just... not know things when it’s hardly comes up in your life, and of course Timber’s been very isolated, it’s jarring to see just how isolated. And same with Sunset. She’s experiencing things in a similar way to Timber since most of her life, all she knew was high fantasy Equestria, and most of Timber’s life has been the isolated backwoods forested areas and Canterlot City. 

She’d heard Rarity talk about taking one to Prance after high school, at the very least on vacation if not more

IF NOT MORE?! SHE REALLY EMBRACING THE PRANCE/PRENCH LIFESTYLE TO WORK THERE? Look I know it’s regarded as a fashion capital BUT WHAT ABOUT APPLEJACK???

Okay I was assuming they were a thing but also more like, just me shipping it.

“I have! Well, not that kind.” Blindly snagging the last trail mix, he focused more on changing lanes than Sunset. “I don’t remember much but my dad used to take me up in his water bomber or the rescue chopper when I was little. Never when there was an actual wildfire in the forest ‘cause y’know, good dad, but he’d let me see the whole valley from up there. Gloriosa says I loved it.”

Hmmm... Timber doesn’t just teleport to random places. Okay well it seems like it. But he has teleported to places that are either A) Higher than the average teenager should be without safety equipment or B) Places you’d travel via plane. Waking up with his bed in the lake might or might not be a result of teleportation, but if it was, it can still be connected to his dad because water bomber. Connecting that feeling of awe/the sublime during those moments in nature with a parent can create powerful emotions that work especially well with magic.

Eh. Looks pretty weird to me, but hey, if the girls end up in colleges across the country or all over the world, I guess I could give it a shot.

Sunset, if you do go flying… avoid Pearson.

Also thinking about this and how likely it is for them to be in schools all over the world. I feel like it would fit their pony counterparts in that, even though they move on to their own personal journeys, they’ll still stay connected to each other.

Timber’s smile waited, patient and unassuming. “Lore-building. I feel you.

First of all: “Lore-building”? Dork term. Second: Timber being essentially what he said his specialty was - open-minded. Thirdly: The “I feel you” and then talking about his own experience... literally empathy for Sunset - Empathy for the Devil. (Note: I noticed this in particular only after having read Chapter 9). And THEN he deflects the conversation topic back to Sunset’s court, making sure that he was trying to show that he has an idea of what she’s going through, but doing what he can to not make it about him.

“So you basically got one of those Mom heart tattoos?”

The part she didn't say out loud was: I thought she wanted to adopt me. She didn't feel like getting emotional over silly filly fantasies.

Imagine that. All that opportunity and validation and then, a line is drawn. You still don’t have a family. Then you try your best to get what little love you can from the closest thing to a parental figure and then its gone and the opportunity is given to someone who already has a loving family.

I’m also totally picturing Sunset as either a Halo Spartan or a Witcher... or Samus Aran - taken at a young age and trained to be the ultimate warrior. She pretty much was, except the PG version. Not necessarily stoic like those fellas (although I’m not familiar enough with Samus’ personality) but still ambitious to be the best of the best and then… someone actually shows them love and then they’re like ??? “What the fuck is this? I’m going to die for you now. Also kill for you. Oh wait that’s bad? Okay I’ll violently maim for you instead! Oh that’s bad too? How about if I only do it emotionally?” Would not want to be SciTwi and Wallflower.

Empathy from the Angel

It’s all a matter of perspective, isn’t it?

“Welcome to Nightfall Reach Military Academy.”

Been trying to figure out the naming behind this. I mean it’s kinda badass already but took some looking up tbh. Legit didn’t even think of ‘Nightfall’ as a synonym of ‘sunset’ and ‘twilight’ so now there’s that. But in looking up ‘reach’, well, there’s a lot there. As a noun, it can be an ‘individual part of a progression or journey’ or the ‘extent or range of knowledge’, as a verb it can mean to strain after something, or simply reach there, their destination. It can also mean reaching out, reaching out to someone (Sunset reaching out to Timber’s a good fit!), or to stretch out or extend. Or heck it could be all of them. Knowing that this is essentially where their knowledge ends as to where Other Sunset could be, it could be Sunset straining after... a whole heckin lot tbh. And it could be her trying to connect with Timber. It could be more as these aren’t even all the definitions! Or perhaps this is where nightfall reaches, and goes no further. For in the dark of the night, the Moon commands the tides, but the tides dare not pass beyond the fortifications and defenders of this bastion.

Or you could be a nerd like me and think it’s a Halo reference especially with that previous thought I had about Sunset being a spartan.

Or or it could just be a cool name with the word reach in it, like Dragonsreach.

And between you and me, it wouldn’t shock me if someone thought the other me needed to straighten up and fly right.

Okay, so there’s the whole Nightmare Moon war thing, being part of the guard because she thought her mom was, and the thing where she wanted to protect the Princess. Like, there’s some things that don’t feel like they add up here. The whole “mom was a guard” thing itself could be made up. Sunset wanted to protect the Princess... why? Because Celestia was the only one who took care of her. If she hadn’t, then would she have wanted to do that? Protect the only person that showed her love (even if she didn’t outright adopt her). Would there have been someone else who replaced Celestia like that in this world?

Sunset’s hope that, someone out there she didn’t know about was really looking out for her other self, and decided she could do with some discipline. So, what would’ve happened had Celestia not taken her in? Would someone else have? Would she have gone to the military as the only way to get opportunities others are afforded when they have social support systems/people looking out for them? Something similar to the life she’s currently facing? She did say she had a talent in pyromagic, but does that translate to warfare here? Could be fireworks instead! Or a firefighter. Controlled burns. She could see Timber a whole lot more!

And then there’s Timber. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s just letting her go through with this so she could get a taste of what her life might have been and could still be.

And Sunset here is the one who she herself thinks she might need to straighten up and fly right. Based on how she lives her life now, that could be reason enough to join. Doesn’t need to be a total hooligan constantly breaking the laws like smashing garbage cans, spraying graffiti, sneaking around campus in a full stealth suit, or... running across a snowy battlefield carrying your companion through to the other side and sacrificing yourself along the way...

...okay maybe she’s perfect for the military.

Callback to the pony version where RD had such a hard time with Wonderbolt history. Poor poor Dash, but actually, poor Timber. He’s now joined the military and will be going off to war... the prank war.

Sunset hadn’t ever tried super hard in gym class, but if her future after high school involved a military academy and being part of something greater than herself, she wouldn’t mind hitting the punching bag a little more. Or even running a lap or two.

Who’s to say this won’t be the direction Sunset takes regardless? She’s trained for war as it is! Maybe all the skills she’s developed over the years won’t actually go to waste. Yay soft skills!

Speaking into a mic bending around from his headset, the tour guide performed his every sentence as if he were a professional wrestler in Rainbow Dash and Applejack’s favourite televised league, Worldwide Wrestling Theatrics (they insisted it was just a name). “I hope you’ve all enjoyed the museum portion of our tour, because it’s time to move on! Iron Will believes there’s no greater pleasure than watching the junior cadets perform a sunset salute to end another peaceful day.” He flexed so hard it looked painful.

Oh my god it’s Iron Will. I can see how he’d make a great Drill Sergeant too. And oh my god World Wide Wrestling Theatrics. And hey! Sunset salute! The nightfall connection!

And maybe foreshadowing? A true Sunset salute as the cadets salute their commanding officer, Sunset Shimmer? She could still be a counselor there! Or social worker.

She doesn’t have to even be any of those tbh. On the surface it doesn’t seem like empathy to be particularly great for the military, but having that sort of virtue in this context makes it all the better, because you’ll have a lot of power, but the empathy can keep you responsible and accountable to yourself and others - those under your command, those you may have to fight, and all the civilians in between. To quote Romeo Dallaire:

“You know, soldiers are very unusual people. On the outside, they are the hardest, most demanding, severe people, but underneath that, they are the most human, the most feeling, the most emotionally attached people who exist.”

And

“I have often been criticized for being an 'emotional' leader, for not being macho enough, but even during this early stage in my career, I believed that the magic of command lies in openness, in being both sympathetic to the troops and at the same time being apart, in always projecting supreme confidence in my own ability and in theirs to accomplish whatever task is set for us.”  

These are traits that Sunset has, and would work well in that sort of life. She’s thinking about the impact that magic has on the entire student body now - not just her friend group. And it’s also something Sunset lacked before she came to this world. And of course Celestia had to learn from her mistake  it by telling Twilight to go make friends.

Folks joke about how “Haha they defeated the villain with the magic of friendship! So cheesy!” happens in media, but that has so much merit in the real world, in so many aspects of life is friendship and the qualities of being a good friend something that is so relevant to making life better for everyone, for succeeding, and for overcoming some of the greatest problems of our time.

The notes sunk into her like the lake-buffeted breeze at her back. To her, that would always be the call of Canterlot Castle.

With all that’s similar here, might she truly feel at home in this place? Might this be where she wants to go?

Sunset continued to swear profusely and quite creatively as she followed Timber, wriggling on her belly under a low set of bars. She was almost glad she wasn’t in her own body; she doubted her steady diet of pizza pockets, toaster strudel, and leftover takeout would have served her well here. Sitting around streaming video games really did a number on the body, she guessed. That aside, Sunset Shimmer had exactly enough muscles to pick up a girl in her arms and swing her around. She had the queer amount, and that was about it.

Okay, with this in mind, it might not be where she wants to go anymore XD.  Or maybe she’ll realize that she’s been put in enough situations that need her to be more fit that she should change that. Question is: is this a hurdle - something that she can and needs to overcome in order to be who she wants to be - or is it a barrier - something that just stands in your way that tells you to not bother with pursuing, because its a sample of a a life that you don’t want. 

“The queer amount” - that’s the power of love, baby!

Timber managed the rest of the hurdles with almost too much ease, and Sunset thought it was stupidly unfair that he got Rainbow Dash’s agility and natural speed.

More of Sunset’s jealousy here. I mention it not just because the laundry list of people she’s jealous of gets longer, but also because its another instance of her being too hard on herself. Yes, her body’s not in great shape, but Timber was the one who shocked the whole gym class by running a lap in her body. He didn’t bring it up that her body was able to handle it, only that everyone was shocked she did it. Its not that she’s not capable, but she doesn’t even want to try, and when she has to try to she shifts the blame and loses confidence.

Timber Spruce slammed down onto the platform with wild eyes and a purse around his shoulder. Smiling feebly, Sunset would have cheered if she had any lung-power left. He saw her and the relief was palpable in his laugh, especially as he dug out Twilight’s back-up inhaler and guided it into her hands, helping her take the first puff.  

Timber comin’ in clutch! That would be a better joke if it was actually a clutch.

Ngl this moment had me anxious for a sec there. And hey! I called it! Chalk one up for Other Marvel!

And I’m seeing reflections of the first time Timber landed in front of Sunset via teleportation, only with opposite feelings from her.

And I wouldn’t have figured out the teleporting thing if I didn’t have a good leader.

It’s your destiny

Commander Tempest.... okay with the explosive energy and fireworks connection that Pony!Tempest had, pyromagic might really not be too far off here. Really appreciate the inclusion of characters like these, no Other Sunset yet but there’s a certain satisfaction in knowing where these other characters end up. Now where’s the Other Starlight Glimmer? Pony-themed Russia? Prussia? Wait no, that was an actual thing.

The tall barbed-wire fences of the Tartarus Juvenile Detention Centre rose ahead and Timber took his hands off the steering wheel. “No. No way. Uh-uh. I’m turning the car around.”

Ooooooooh yikes. All or nothing, eh Sunset? Either you’re somewhere where you can be at your prime with all the skills needed to excel in a noble field among comrades (on in this case, friends since ‘respect for friends’ is one of NR’s core tenets) or... the opposite. Or I guess all those little places in between that you visited only once. Wild how that works. If someone didn’t push her to NR, then she would have just been a delinquent the rest of her life?  

“Yeah, well, you’re not anymore and this is way too mean to yourself. To both of you! Other Sunset could be in lots of places! A motorcycle shop, leather jacket emporium, an ice cream parlor⁠⁠—I mean everybody likes ice cream, right?”

Yeeess my boy! Point out those middle paths! And point out where she might be wrong! He entertained her thoughts about NR, but this is where the line gets drawn.

The guard led them to a full-body metal detector, which meant Sunset had to forfeit her phone and the emergency sextant Twilight had in her pocket, but otherwise, they got through without issue. Timber did so under protest, pouting all the way.

I’m just picturing the guard now. Like “who tf just brings a sextant everywhere they go?”

The guard considered it, hemming and hawing. “Well. No Shimmers here, but we have a Glow. Could that be who you’re here to see?”

Ngl, it didn’t register with me that this was Cozy Glow until I started writing this thing out. That child is scary. What crimes did she commit in this world? Attempt to steal the nuclear codes?

Nothing that we could find, but we’ll keep looking, Twilight assured. She has to be somewhere.

That was it for a long while, maybe an hour or so. Then, out of nowhere, Sunset’s phone decided to blast Right There in Front of Me, the ring-tone she’d set for Twilight’s phone. Sunset’s heart leapt. “Hello?”

Maybe the Right there in Front of Me was for her reflection in Bevin’s art piece at the beginning! In the mirror! It’s just her that’s in front of her. She’s standing in her own way.

“—ber Brambleton Spruce, about 6 foot 3, 17 years old but acts 10, and he hasn’t been answering his phone!

Brambleton! I know I mentioned it last time as being funny but this time, I remember a certain comic featuring the Kingdom of the Deer, and Bramble was a character there! And of course I remember that Sunset visited Thicket with Celestia!

Went back and read that comic and it’s very reflective of Legend of Everfree! So it only makes sense! That and we had a potential name drop for Timber’s mom here but the deer mom/queen was never mentioned. But also also, Bramble seems like a different character than Brambleton here

Regardless, I think maybe it does show how people change when they can connect with different people and ideas. Bramble would likely have not gone beyond the forest until the events of the story made that happen, and Timber really didn’t leave Everfree either until recently. But Timber was essentially raised to welcome people to the forest instead. He said being open-minded was his specialty. Bramble was very much not open-minded at the start of the comic arc. But by the end that seems like it changed.

I don’t know what happened to Bramble after that story or how he changed other than the epilogue which implied he became more open, or what Timber was really like when his parents were around. Still, we can put two and two together and say that, even if they followed the same path, they both still changed, much like Sunset has. And if they didn’t, then the other universe isn’t so much of a reflection of the pony realm’s characters as Sunset thinks it is.

(And reading that comic hits waaaay too close to home rn. If only we had a hydra in the Greenbelt.)

“Just trying to be thorough!” Twilight promised, waving her hand as if to ward off the omen. “Although, that one was a relief not to find her in...”

It’s okay Twilight! I thought the same thing! You never know... like there’s cars in this universe ffs. Okay yeah there’s also not random magical monsters destroying the town on a weekly basis. OKAY YEAH THERE ARE MAGICAL DEMONS EVERYWHERE BUT ITS MORE LIKE, MONTHLY AND ONLY STARTED RECENTLY.

Leading them up the stone steps to city hall, Flash led the charge into the overly grand, heavy-doored entrance-way. A confusing statue of a horse and its pioneer human rider seeming to shake hand/hoof boasted the peaceful town motto at the statue’s base: Keeping Things Stable. The dream tax-payers built, Sunset supposed. And the one teenagers made fun of.

Omg what. WHAT. I... I don’t... I can’t....

lmfao but... this city is where the portal to Equestria is. And said portal isn’t just in a random spot in nature. It’s literally in a man(?)-made piece of architecture. Maybe both horses and humans made it??? I honestly never thought about it until now but ehhhhh????????

A bit of a pipsqueak, really. He held up a recording device. “Mayor! Mayor, over here! How much danger are the people of Canterlot City really in?”

Betcha he’s got a British accent too pfft.

The resemblance between Flash Magnus and Flash Junior still threw Sunset off.

All things considered, this is yet another case of the parallel’s between parallel worlds being different. It’s not just that Flash Magnus is the father of Flash Sentry instead of the ancestor, but also that Pony!Flash and Human!Flash are different people too. Guard in one, and guitarist/baker/hates gym class in the other. And it’s not that the Pony!Flash can’t be those other things, it’s a question of whether Human!Flash will be following in his dad’s footsteps to be that equivalent of a guard. What he is now, and what he will be in the future, are two things that can indicate again that this could be very different from the other universe, or the future can be very different from what the current path looks like.

Either one is possible, and both contradict how Sunset’s seeing things.

Similar to Timber/Bramble, Flash here might simply not have experienced the turning point in his life that brings him to be the equivalent of a guard. He’s constantly trying to be one of the girls, cheer them on, because he looks up to them, how brave and awesome they are at fighting big bads. He might still get that opportunity that changes everything for him.

Magnus laughed. “Oh, I like you. Kids today, with their baggy pants and stupid hats. You’re one of a kind! You know, I think you’d even do well on the force. Where’d you find this one, deputy?”

Omg, deputy. It’s just like, another way to say Junior.

“We don’t know what to tell you kids. There is no other Sunset Shimmer.”

Okay, no other Sunset Shimmer? Fr? But waiiiiit... Sunset was an orphan, she might not have even known her parents, who would have even given her the name Sunset Shimmer?

Okay so we’ll never know anyway, dangit. Doesn’t mean that there isn’t one! Just that we won’t see her in this story. Maybe Tempest does know the Other Sunset, and maybe she does have a similar countenance/impression that should could see in Sunset-in-Twilight’s-body?

Global comments

Adding some global comments to shorten this thing a bit because Marvel’s writing here would keep me here all day and this post would be much much longer.

I loved all the little comedic elements. All the callbacks to the other characters that aren’t EqG Sunset that offer a bit of worldbuilding I’ve seen so little of (in general, I’m sure there’s plenty out there but I don’t really look into it much). I do also love Sunset’s bonding with Timber, showing how well they work together, how Sunset really needs a friend like him and everything. All these pieces being connected and coming together into something amazing. Of course, there’s so many chapters left so uh, gonna be a while with plenty of more conflict before we reach that.

When I first saw pictures of my Poppy girl with her Millie Moon sister as tiny babies, I knew they were the perfect pair for my Lucky Elaina. I knew they were the perfect disaster waiting to happen for us, as all kittens are. But when I first hold her, I knew she would be something special; I just didn’t know how special and in how short a time. My Poppy girl got sick at 15.5 months, and even then, I think we all knew, there wasn’t a long, drawn out, happily every after for her. But we knew with whatever time we had left, it was going to be the happiest ever after, and the best companion love story she could ever have. Poppy touched lives, wherever she could, whether she was there or not. Pictures were shown, stories were freely told, to both people AND to her. If her walls could talk in a language we knew, oh the tea it would have spilled. She was given more treats than anyone should ever get. She become a chonk, and I loved it so much. She because everyone at PASEs best friend.. not just because she listened, but because she talked and judged and freely gave her opinion. Towards the end, she started to slow down, and want to hide more, but still keep her eye out for the drama. She would need help to the litter, but she made it look like the most Royal of things needed, not something to be ashamed of. Even at the very end, the best ~4.5 months later, she was carried over the rainbow bridge, not just in Mommy’s arms and holding Daddy’s hands, but with Auntie Erica giving her every bit of love and support as she could.

There were definitely bad points during the 4.5 months she was sick, but honestly, I’d rather the love filled memories be her happiest, most love filled moments. She has touched more people in her life than many cats can touch in entire 20 year long lives!

Mom note: I couldn’t tell if one of my favorite pics was one of the more adorable pictures or one of her in her almost constant “blank, dazed” face but I had to go with loving because she’s all that and more.

Lover of Gen 4 of Rainbow Monkeys and will go on for ages about the Lore and Characters. Her favorite is Green/Ver Day.

Rating Dream Festival performance outfits (4)

(The ones mentioned here I think were used for the lives but I can’t be sure. But also I just wanted to talk about them.)

Scenario (Live A Rival) (R ep2)

I was rewatching episode 2 and 3 of R and I actually caught that they had played the last part of Scenario (the song Yuto was singing in the classroom when Keigo found him in ep7) and well, since the outfits were something different, I’m going to count it in the ranking.

I like them! Kurofune has a lot of good outfits, or maybe since it’s just the two of them, they don’t need much. But they somehow do vary from each other anyway. I like that Keigo’s outfits are long/classy while Yuto’s are sharper/casual. I can’t say that I would have thought this was a matching set if I saw them separately, but whatever.

AGF 2016 (Super Nova)

Very parade/circus theme? But I don’t think it’s too bad. (It’s because their outfits are varied isn’t it.) Maybe I could do without the stripe pants but they’re just as offensive as ResPo’s checker patterns. (Undesired but I will live)

I think they did Junya justice finally. I feel like he should match Kanade’s casual (open shirt, shorter sleeves) while Shin can get the closed shirt and long sleeves. (I’m always fond of Shin’s princely outfits.) Itsuki doesn’t look awful and I never have complaints about Chizu. Kurofune versions are fine too and everyone’s bottoms are all different!

I like these a lot! I guess the black and gold makes everyone look cool (*shakes fist at Kurofune*) but I also like the style. The variation is very subtle, just the button patterns on the front/chest, but I like the base outfits themselves and the gloves, so it’s a pass.

All For Tomorrow (Million Yell)

I LOVEEE THESE OUTFITS!!! These are everything I look for in a group meant to be a group. (Also Sayaka Ono art makes it *mwah* 😘 for me, this pic is my Home Screen so I can stare at them) DearDream’s base is white and gold while Kurofune’s is black and gold (as per usual). I didn’t hate the pastel rainbow blocks in Candy Block series that is DFes’s iconic look, but you know I would prefer a basic color as a base over patterns.

Everyone’s outfits are styled differently if you look hard enough but at a glance, you can tell they are a team. (Points up for making Kanade&Shin and Junya&Itsuki match. 🤫)

The outfits must be a nightmare for cosplayers for being so asymmetrical, but I’m just here to look, not to make. I think Chizu’s side thing is a little (?) in design choice but whatever. Keigo and Yuto looking cool and suave in their own way but still match DD.

Scene changes into Cody taking pictures of himself and peoples at the party. Then he stares amazed at the pictures he made. His attention however gives one of the final pics where he can see kraken monster behind himself. He looks back as he starts to scream and run.

Cody: scared Guys! There’s a kraken!

Peoples at the party looks confused at Kid. Alvin looks confused at his friend.

Alvin: What are you talking about? What kraken?

Cody: shakes with fear I literally saw one few minutes ago!

Jane (offscreen): screams Oh God,there’s a kraken!

They see giant orange kraken monster who is angry. It wants now to climb onto the ship.

Greeny: Great! She notices kraken is about to jump onto the ship Let’s have this party started.

Duo runs to the front of the ship. Greeny jumps at the creature as she electrocutes it. Cody meanwhile takes the creature using his powers somewhere far away from them. For a minute nothing happens. Slowly monsters get out from shelters as they have relief that this mess is over. Main characters hugs Greeny. Just then,the weird force levitates her as is assaulted by green light. Song „Helping Hand” starts as Greeny transformation begins.

We all knew that to get to the pretty parts of life, you’d have to get ugly first. 

Hey, no pain no gain right? 

Well I hope you liked our most beautiful moment in life. Thank you for going through the good, the bad, and the ugly. For running after Hana with Yoongi when she saw the grand opening of 24/7 Heaven. For walking with Huimang to Hobi’s door. For riding the train to Ilsan with Byul to meet Namjoon. For being with Jimin when he was scared and alone with Mingyu. For being with Taehyung when he finally met the one. For being with Jungkook and Rina when they got engaged. And for being with Jin and Mae when their perfect life wasn’t so perfect after all. 

It was happy, it was sad, sometimes it made us mad… but I mean, that’s what we have to go through sometimes right? Not only does it make the story more interesting, haha, but it happens in real life. As cheesy as it sounds, rainbows come after the rain.

Yeah, the pandemic.

I know we don’t all live the same exact lives, but we all had it rough this past (almost) two years.

We might’ve lost a job, a loved one, connection with friends, got sick, got depressed, felt scared, and so much more. Because I have. Not every single one of those in that list, but most of them. 

If you were here since daddy duties, that was the start of the pandemic. I believe the lockdown in my country happened when I was posting the intro for that. How crazy?!

For most of us, this AU has been a little escape. A world without covid as someone once said. Actually, a lot of you have told me that reading this AU and receiving notifications for updates etc. are what makes your day. Which means so much to me of course!

“Hey Miya.”

I look up from my laptop to see Jin standing there in front of my desk here at work. 

“Hey Jin, do you need anything?” I ask, closing my laptop. I always brought my personal laptop to work for whenever it gets quiet. Being a receptionist here at Moon Studios is pretty fun, but of course, it does get boring sometimes. 

“No, no, I’m good. I actually am about to head home, but Yeonjun is still here,” Jin tells me. He has a smile on his face. “You two should go out, isn’t your shift over in a few?”

“Uh.. yeah it is,” I say, letting out a shy laugh. “Sure, um. I’ll just finish this up and I can go and meet him.” Jin nods.

“Okay, I’ll text him to come down soon. See you again tomorrow,” he says, walking away.

This was fun. A lot of us have a special connection with these characters and don’t want to see them go. Some want to see Rina and JK get married, I mean, we have all been anticipating it since the beginning right? Some want Sarang and Hobi to finally have a baby. If I ever need my ego taken down a few notches - it never does, it’s barely even present, to be honest - all I have to do is go on Instagram. To be honest, regardless of how I’m feeling, opening that app is bound to make my mood plummet and come crashing into the ground so hard it drives a hole in it - probably in the form of a broken heart.

Being a content creator myself, I often get asked questions about my absence on that social platform specifically. I mean, the questions are based and rational I guess, considering I’m not a faceless YouTuber and yet my Instagram account is void of any photos. It’s not like I don’t post at all - I do! I post on my story often but it’s more often than not scenery I find pretty or a poster I’ve made for a movie/video game. Bottom line is: I barely ever allow a picture of me to make it online. The most my fans are ever gonna get of me is a selfie which is also a super rare occurrence because of how long it takes me to take and choose one I don’t hate.

Ok, but how am I supposed to find the motivation to post any sort of picture of myself when on my timeline I’m always faced with people worthy of posting pictures of themselves. People with such perfect bodies and beautiful faces. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not jealous or envious of those people - good for them! They know what they’re working with and they’re working it well. I have nothing against them, in fact, I love seeing people proud of their bodies no matter their size, shape or weight. Those are my role-models: people who are proud of themselves, their bodies, their attributes and capabilities and don’t hesitate to show them off. Those are the people I look up to but, deep down inside I know I’ll never be like.

Insecure about my body, having been referred to as ‘chubby’ and ‘squishy’ all my life. Inappreciative of the stuff I do: starting from my job as a graphic designer leading towards my job on YouTube - nothing I do, professionally or otherwise, satisfies me. Nothing I do is enough in my eyes because I feel incapable of ever being able to do enough. I’ve been called lazy and a half-asser a few too many times to be able to brush it off as a meaningless insult. 

With these problems I’ve had with myself and my own perception of who I am and the work I do, I’ve never had the time for romance or romantic relationships. I second-guess the intentions of everyone who ever shows any interest in me because in my mind I’m nothing special and I have nothing to offer - nothing attractive or likable at least. That being said, I haven’t even been one to make heart eyes at others either. I busy myself with my job and some side-gigs, brushing off any relationship questions with the excuse that I’m ‘just too busy to be in a relationship’ which is technically true.

Having spent twenty plus years with that mindset, one can imagine how surprised I was when I found myself catching feelings for someone. And that someone just couldn’t be any other than the biggest YouTube sensation at the moment - Corpse Husband.

I’m close friends with Poki - her and I were roommates at one point too - so her inviting me to play Among Us with them wasn’t so strange. One or two games, I thought, nothing unusual there, just friendly curtesy. I wasn’t expecting to warm up to the group of famous streamers nor did I expect them to welcome me among them so easily, mostly because my channel is so small and practically invisible to the YouTube algorithm. But soon enough, I became a permanent member of the team, making friends with every single one of those YouTubers I practically thought of a celebrities.

This journey of branching out to other content creators has proven itself to be surprisingly pleasant and has packed my book of friendships to the brim. All of that came unexpectedly, along with a wave of new subs and a higher view count. However, as I mentioned, it hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows. I came to finally understand what my high school friends were talking about when they were head over heels for a boy - the butterflies in the stomach whenever he speaks your name; the importance of the laugh you share with him, how special and different it is; how cool it is to be impostors with him - ok they never said that, obviously, but it’s what I have as a substitute to the ‘when the two of you make eye-contact’ bullshit since Corpse and I have never seen each other in person. That is, of course, because of him being a faceless YouTuber and me being a self-conscious and insecure girl.

We do talk all the time though - texting, calling, chilling on Discord, you name it. Our conversations range from deeply philosophical to ones that might mislead someone into thinking we’re high. There’s no topic we haven’t touched upon and yet we still manage to find something new to talk about. We have plenty of similarities but we also never seem to run out of differences we slowly come across as we keep getting to know each other better and better. 

And somewhere along that journey I ended up catching feelings.

Human nature of wanting to connect with other people, I curse you for what you’ve done to me.

You might think I’m being overdramatic about the whole ordeal and that this is just a normal, natural occurrence many people experience in their life - some even daily. Well, not only am I far from used to it, but it’s also taking a toll of a different kind on me.

It’s like a constant slap to the face. 

That slap turned into a punch when Corpse and I started following each other on Instagram and I started getting daily reminders of how out of my depth I am with this crush on him. In over my head, especially when you look at all those girls whose pics and videos he reposts on his story. Imagine how that makes me feel, what that does to me - puts me back into the ‘Constantly not good enough‘ basket, the one I’ve been fighting to get out of all my life. In the past and in different contexts I could easily say that it was all just my mind hating me intensely but now - now that I know for a fact I’m not good enough and don’t fit Corpse’s criteria - it hurts ten times as much. I’m not one to do shit for someone’s attention or to attract someone’s eyes, but it really hurts my feelings. Often times, it also leads me to doing dumb things and making rash decisions. 

Like the one I made two days ago.

Imagine me cringing and shaking my head at my own stupidity as I admit this: I, in a frenzy, ordered a whole e-girl getup with overnight delivery. 

Wait, hold up, it gets worse. 

I received it yesterday and spent the whole day regretting that decision, but then, in my most insecure hours - which was somewhere around midnight - I equipped the get-up, took a picture and posted it on my Instagram page. First full body pic I’ve ever posted on there. First pic I’ve posted there of any kind. There to stay, not to be gone in twenty four hours. First pic, and it’s not even of me. It’s of who I want to be in order to fit someone’s criteria. And that fucking stings.

As you might imagine, I’ve spent today’s day regretting that decision as well. Recently my mood’s been nothing but regretting rash decisions that have surfaced under the influence of my ridiculous, constantly-present insecurities. And I would’ve probably gotten over it rather quickly had I not received a message from Corpse that read:

“Didn’t think of you with an e-girl aesthetic“

I didn’t open the message, I peeped at it as it was a notification on my lock screen. It’s still there, an unread notification. It’s been two hours since I received it and I cannot think of a single thing to say in response to that. 

Truth is, I’m afraid. I’m afraid of so many things right now.

I’m afraid of becoming that girl in the photo, cause I’m most definitely not her.

I’m afraid of letting Corpse down by admitting I’m not her.

I’m afraid of what my own mind has made me do because it hates me so much and I’m terrified of what it might do in the future.

I’m afraid and stranded on things to do.

You can’t be her forever, you know. Being her won’t make your insecurities go away, it’ll only make them worse. Haven’t you learned that by now?

I sigh, frustrated and irritated with myself as I grab my phone and tap on the notification, finally deciding to face the music and allow my instincts to carry me through the interaction. Improvisation, that’s one of the few things I’m good at. Let’s hope it doesn’t fail me.

I’m just about to type out my response - not sure what it’s gonna say - when I give the message Corpse has sent me a second glance.  I furrow my brows, finding there’s more to it than that peep through the notification let me see.
