*Minor Spoilers* I read this one the other morning when I had a late work start, and I was welling up with tears thinking about it on my drive in. It's really not even angsty! At least not to that level of reaction. I can't fully explain why it affected me so deeply, just my own inner child I suppose. Someone who needed safe, supportive, and encouraging adults in her life.

In this story, it's the first day of school and new students Adam and Warlock stay after for Mr. Fell's writing club. They drag Warlock's guardian, Nanny Crowley, to the meeting and you can probably guess what happens next. Aziraphale is an excellent teacher, meeting the kids at their level, and his teaching style has an immediate effect on Crowley. This story really is more about the children, but we still get high quality chemistry between the adults.

The length is nothing to sneeze at, but god I am desperate to spend more time in this world. The kids are so well written, not babied or overly mature. I want to watch as they become a family, I want to see Warlock being loved and thriving in this new family of his. I want to watch them create a home together. It's such a warm story that I really enjoyed.

Arkhelios Adventures

"How have things been with Adam? I feel like he's always too busy to hang out lately. Like, I get wanting to help with coven work, whatever that means, but surely the coven has other people to help out?"

Despina tried not to look too interested in Theo's response. It was the first day of school and already rumours were flying about Adam and Theo's relationship. The two were skittish around each other, and there was nothing teens loved more than relationship drama. Despina didn't have a relationship of her own to gossip about, so any drama between the two overpowered warlocks was riveting.

"He's just busy," Theo replied, trying to downplay the worry that was written all over his face. "Every relationship has ups and downs or so the adults usually say. I've never been in a relationship with anyone but Adam, so I don't really know. My parents cheated on each other a bunch of times, and they're happy, so I don't know. Adam's just moody. I'm sure that once we start getting homework, he'll go back to growing crystals for projects and picking up weird rocks and being himself again."

"Yeah, I guess so," Despina conceded. "Who knew that relationships were so much work? It's tough not having parents to learn from, and while Aunt Edana tries her best to be there for me and Eero, you know how she is."

Theo groaned at the thought of relying on Edana for any kind of emotional or parental support. The woman hated his guts just for existing, and she made no secret of her hatred for Despina's mother.

"Yeah, I know all too well how she feels about me," Theo sighed. "Given how weird she is with her own kids, you probably dodged a bullet without her really in your life. I don't know how healthy an adult she is to be learning about relationships from. Not that my parents are any better. Adam's lucky that he just has the one half-brother. I have at least two half-siblings that were supposed to stay secret and probably a few more, knowing my parents."

"Being a parent at sixteen has to be hard on a relationship," Despina said charitably. "I'll be sixteen this year and I can't even imagine it. I'm sure that your parents did their best."

Theo raised a skeptical eyebrow at her generous assessment of his parents' parenting style.

"My dad is just as crazy as Edana," he stated. "Adam is terrible, I'm going to get pregnant and die if I even think about sex, and if I don't spend every free weekend working in his stupid restaurant for free, then I'm a bad son. He's the one who had an affair with a married queen consort and the reason why I have a baby brother who I also have to take care of for free when I'm home. My other dad used to be terrified of what I could do and spent half of my life wishing that I was normal and trying to somehow lose my powers. Trust me, having parents isn't all it's cracked up to be."

"My parents made my brother and I to sacrifice to dark magic and didn't give a damn about us," Despina shot back. "I think I win the worst parents contest hands down. You're just too close to see how good you have it with your parents."

"Yeah, fair, I guess," Theo conceded. "Your parents are probably the shittiest parents in our entire school, but mine still suck. They hate Adam for no reason and don't trust me at all. Adam's not going to feel secure in our relationship when they treat us like criminals for being in love."

"Adam? Adam! Pay attention to me! Adam!"

"What do you want, Remy?"

Adam's fingers ran up and down the keys of the school piano, his mind a million miles away. Theo had started a fight this morning over breakfast when he reached for Adam's hand and Adam flinched before he could stop himself. Ever since then, Theo had been pouting and stomping around the campus, looking miserable. Their daily arguments over stupid things were becoming more frequent, and day after day, Adam returned to the piano to release his frustrations. Music soothed his soul when Theo couldn't.

"Get downstairs already!" Remy growled, fighting the urge to just grab her brother behind the ear and drag him with her. "The new student is here for the first day of classes! We have to be there to meet him. Who knows what schemes he's hatching? He could be planting a bomb for all we know."

"Who? The new kid?"

"No, Adam, the other student coming here from that weird place Theo went," she growled. "Of course I mean that student! Dad and the queen think he's up to something, and I'm going to figure out what."

"If you stopped eavesdropping on people, you'd probably be happier," Adam commented, still playing the piano and shutting his twin out. "You don't know anything about this guy, aside from what you heard from a conversation you weren't a part of. I'm sure he's fine."

"Master Maricourt, Master Darktide-Traver, here is Sebastian Wall of Jubilant Accosts, ready for his first day of school in Pleasantview."

Behind Miruna, a boy with red hair and piercing gold eyes stood, taking in all the grandeur of the coven entrance.

"Hello. Thank you for accepting me into your school. I have so much to learn here in Tredony and I can't wait to get started."

"Pleasantview," Ewan Maricourt corrected the boy. "We go by Pleasantview these days. I understand that you come from a land descended from Yacothia. We were once neighbours back then, I suppose."

Sebastian nodded gracefully.

"Of course," he replied smoothly. "I do so love history, I sometimes get carried away. Pleasantview looks like a beautiful place to study. Master Darktide-Traver, can I assume that you're descended from the fair Clarisa Darktide of Aarbyville? I've always had such a respect for the pirate queen; it's wonderful to see her descendant carry on the name."

'And is Wall an ancient family name too?" Edana asked irritably. "I don't remember reading anything about the Wall family in history class."

Sebastian shook his head.

"No, my family isn't recorded in the medieval scrolls. It's just that...well, my father would often tell me of the adventures of the pirate queen when I went to bed. I never thought that I would ever meet a relative of hers."

Edana shot her ex-husband a baffled look, which Ewan ignored.

"Well, there'll be plenty of time to chat about history later," Ewan said. For now, let's get you settled in. Your people sent all of your bags via a magical portal and they're ready to be taken to your room. For this semester, you'll be staying in a dorm with the only person who has ever been to your land, Apprentice Theo Bellamy. If you're homesick, perhaps you can reminisce together. He speaks quite highly of your country."

Ewan truthfully didn't know how Theo felt about Jubilant Accosts, but the boy was the only coven member who had seen Jubilant Accosts for themselves and as such, Theo had a duty to keep an eye on this mysterious student and report anything suspicious. There was no way in hell that Theo would be rooming with Ewan's son, especially since they were apparently sexuallly active.

"Yeah, putting those two together is a great idea," Edana muttered, loud enough for Sebastian to hear.

"I hope I'm not being treated as a threat to to watched over by your strongest student," Sebastian said irritably. "I only want to learn more about magic. I have no other agenda."

"Of course," Ewan replied quickly. He shot another dirty look at his ex-wife. "Theo is one of our most talented students, but he is only assigned to room with you because of his past experience with your homeland. We do not allow students to room by themselves unless there are special circumstances, so this is a setup that every single student must follow."

"Of course, that's what I was getting at," Edana lied. "Putting you with Theo makes a lot of sense. He apparently studied advanced magic at Shadowvale and could help you settle in here."

The way that Sebastian cocked his head to stare incredulously at her sent shivers down Edana's spine. There was something so familiar about it that she couldn't quite place. His eyes watched her watch him, seeming to delight in her confusion. This wasn't a boy who was excited to start a new school and meet new friends like he claimed. This was a soldier, waiting to be allowed into Edana's home to complete whatever mission he had.

Edana wasn't stupid. The instant Ewan had told her the name of the mysterious new student, she had immediately thought of Coby Wall, Queen Maura’s father, and potential assassin for Pleasantview. Ewan and King Charley had briefed her on the mysterious lead on the attacks on Twikkii Island, and Edana was more than ready to take action if she could. No one attacked an event where her children were in attendance and lived to talk about it. Charley had advised her to hang back and wait for more information before he would authorize her to hunt anyone down, but Edana was ready. If anyone with the last name Wall came within striking distance of her children, Edana would attack first and apologize to Charley later.

Still. She felt drawn to this boy for some reason she couldn't explain. He looked at her, and it felt like she was missing a very important piece of a puzzle she hadn't even realized she was assembling. It had to be the countless hours she'd spent hunched over her desk, staring at pictures of Queen Maura’s father. She had every known photo of the former prince consort pinned to her desk at home, hoping some burst of inspiration would hit her. She could see some of Coby in this boy. His hair for one was a dead giveaway, and maybe the corners of his mouth were similar too. This boy could be Coby's son or brother or even cousin. Who knew where on the Wall family tree he fell? The only thing that was certain to Edana was that there was more to this exchange student than they were being told, and that his timing was extremely suspicious.

"I would love to meet this Theo and see our room," Sebastian stated gracefully, as though he was the better person in this scenario, and Edana's suspicion was completely unfounded. "I have friends that went to Shadowvale. We'll have much to discuss."

Ewan walked Sebastian to the hallway where a coven member waited. Ewan watched as Sebastian ascended the stairs completely before turning angrily to Edana.

"You can't just go off on students, especially the ones the Queen deems suspicious," he snapped. "Is your hatred of our son's boyfriend really more important than observing a potential threat? You've made him suspicious of us, which will only make him more dangerous if he's planning something."

"I know, I know," Edana sighed. "I've never been good at holding back my feelings, you know that. It's just...this boy gives me a weird feeling. I can't explain it. There's just this electric current that runs through my nervous system when he stares at me. It reminds me of when Charlotte ran coven meetings. There was just something unimaginable running through her stare, and that boy is the same."

"I can't do anything about this," Ewan said patiently. "No matter how unnerving he is to you, the queen can't risk rejecting this boy and starting conflict with a powerful, seemingly unstable nation. Try to reign in your temper, Edana, or I'll have to assign you elsewhere. You're the best witch I know, and I want you on this assignment, but if it's too much for you, I'll-"

"I'll do better," Edana promised. "I know I can do this. His Majesty trusts me to complete this assignment and Queen Claudia listens to him. I won't let the king down; he's like a father to me. I know I can protect our family and our nations. Maybe just limit my involvement to times when Adam's demon isn't nearby. There's only so much of him that I can take."

Ewan nodded. This wasn't an unexpected request. Honestly, he'd already been considering it himself. Theo was a necessary part of this plan, and Edana tended to embarrass herself with inappropriate rage whenever the teen's name was mentioned.

"Of course," he decided. "That sounds like it's for the best for now. But Edana, they're dating. They may end up married or pregnant one day and you'll have to learn to live with him then. You can't parent by throwing a tantrum every time the children come to you with something that makes you uncomfortable."

Edana nodded her agreement, not trusting her voice to not betray her feelings.

"Of course," she agreed, mirroring her ex. "I'll try my best."

I think you're right about parallels in vol 3 being intentional. I have caught a few of them myself. What makes things difficult is that James Gunn has been less talkative about all the characters compared to the past. He's mostly spoken about Rocket. When he has spoken about Gamora specifically it's usually in relation to her arc with Peter and not her individual character. There is the real family comment but right or wrong it didn't present as something positive for her characters time with the team. It makes it easy to second guess if you're understanding scenes and interactions.

I mostly see Gamora as similar to Adam Warlock. He's like a kid new to the world and just following what his not so good intentioned parent wants. Gamora isn't a kid but she is like the characters from vol 1. Relatively new to separation from her old life and she hasn't been part of a family of heroes yet. Instead she went from Endgame to ravager life. At least I think because we don't know when or how the ravagers came into her life. This for sure needed more work. Either way she's not having the experience of saving people and then building a family with a mission to save more people. In a way it's like having a skill and then not using it for a long time so you become rusty. Gamora has always had a big heart and the ability to help people but her current situation isn't about that. With the guardians she gets the chance to use that skill again. The difference between her and Adam is we get to see his experience lead to becoming a guardian and with Gamora she's back with the ravagers. We also don't get to see her be part of the team meeting where we learn more about what they all want to do now that saving Rocket is finished. To my mind this was one of the biggest mistakes made with Gamora. We already weren't getting to see enough of her life, knowing more about her thoughts at the end would have been a tremendous character boost.

Guardians Vol. 3 is...bad?

Had so many thoughts about Guardians Vol.3 that I felt it proper to post here too.

It's James Gunn's furry version of Katawa Shoujo with the addition of Sid from Toy Story.

When someone said that the Guardians would continue to appear in future MCU titles, I thought that James Gunn responded "not all of them" meaning that not all of them were going to make it out alive, not that I was pining for it but I set up certain expectations for its characters in order to build up each one enough to make you think "oh this one is going to die" to the point where you thought that about all of them and were kept guessing until the end. Well that didn't happen, instead what we got was Rocket out of commission to show his flashbacks for most of the movie. Nobody died. But somehow, Rocket's story was the most compelling story in here and it's not hard to see why.

His story was good but it felt unnatural which brings me to the editing. The action is brimming in the first two movies but this one has a lack of such, having the "potential" to be cool but never really hitting the mark until the final battle. This is in part due to the constant need to cut away, there's a cool fight scene with Peter and Groot? Let's cut away to Gamora. Then hey, how about we cut back to Kraglin and Cosmo arguing over who's a good or bad dog for the eleventh time? And then finally we get a cool final battle and even that's ruined, because guess what? The music selection just wasn't as good this time around and- I'm getting really sick and tired of No Sleep Til Brooklyn being in every movie, to the point that there should be a rule that you buy the film rights to music, you keep them for a specified amount of time so that nobody else can for at least over a year because what was it? March, when Mario came out? Some of the tracks are good but that just left a bad taste in my mouth. There are other Beastie Boys songs, you know!

But those characters that I expected to be built up, weren't, Rocket was the only one. I mean, what is this mess? It's a waste of practically everything it adds. The hyped up Adam Warlock that was integral to the Infinity Saga in the comics skipped the MCU's version of the Infinity Saga for this movie, so what better is he doing? Cracking jokes and petting alien dogs, that's about it. Drax was shadowed, I see the arc they put in there and it's nice but I would've liked the comics one better, this one is more like they're making an excuse for being too jokey. Mantis...what exactly is her arc? Gamora, same deal. Nebula...can keep being Queen, she can save her arc, I wouldn't mind.

Peter. Peter. Peter. WHERE'S HIS HELMET?! WHERE'S HIS ROCKET BOOTS?! STAR-LORD WHO?! "They're in his desk drawer and those boots are no more, those rocket packs are superior-" I DON'T CARE! He doesn't even USE the frickin' rocket pack and you're telling me he was in such a rush that he forgot his mask and rocket pack but not his guns? He knew there would be action, why would he not have a spare on the ship, why- Nevermind, lame excuses. Sonic Adventure is where I thought it was a little too much to have Tails and Amy have the same arc to become independent from Sonic but this movie takes that and cranks it to where most of the cast have the arc that they need to be independent from the rest (namely Star-Lord).

That's the other thing about it. When I saw the Holiday Special, I just assumed it was lower quality because it was a short little one-off but this movie just gives off a similar vibe of production value, like it's too grey or something. The CGI is fine, luckily breaking that trend that the MCU has been having lately but that's the other thing about the Holiday Special, it was really only progressive to the overall story to officiate that Peter and Mantis are siblings and solidify Mantis and Drax's friendship but it was the siblings part that I so desperately desired. And let me tell you- when I saw GOTG2, I emailed Marvel about a potential third sequel, BEGGING that they give Star-Lord a sister, I won't disclose what I said in my letter but I was shocked to see it happen. I'm not saying it was me or even that they read my fan letter but I'm just showing how happy that made me to see it actually come to fruition. With that said, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot done with it...

And then we have the kids, yes, the kids. In Thor: Love and Thunder, it felt very much like Disney execs wanted them to push it in a direction where it's about the children. Fine, it fits with the theme of the movie, made for a cheesy ending though. But then they did it again for this movie and I'm just kind of...weirded out by it, like is this supposed to be a Disney ride? Is this meant to pander to kids? Then why do they curse and- Ok, I'll let it go, just a weird choice.

With No Way Home, I liked it more as time went on but with Guardians, I've liked it less, I seen and read what others have to say after I watched it but it doesn't change how I feel. I picked up on the stuff, I just didn't like it or felt it delivered. And some people feel the need to bring up that "James Gunn had no control over what happened with Gamora in Infinity War and Endgame, she missed out on so much development." And like??? She was in Infinity War and we got all this development so that leaves Endgame, Thor, and the Holiday Special which NONE of those three were anything crazy that she missed out on in comparison to the other Guardians. Also, James Gunn KNEW about this and he was FINE with it AND he admitted that he gets more slack than anybody else so I don't know why they're putting him in this victim position, he wanted to kill Gamora in 2 and Marvel talked him out of it then Marvel turned right back around and asked to kill her in Infinity War to which Gunn agreed that it was a good choice and he'd work with that. But Gamora was never the problem for me, it just was for other people and they came up with figmented excuses. Now, it did feel like Marvel might've asked Gunn to keep the characters alive so they can milk them as much as they can (which will probably inevitably happen to Iron Man and whoever else) but apparently this was Gunn's version so I don't know. The MCU is just falling into the same pit traps that the comics have had, part of the appeal of the movies was that they didn't have that baggage, it could seem concrete and have impact and stakes but whatever.

I didn't watch any trailers or material for this movie because I've given up on that, seeing as most stuff gets spoiled anyway. But the one thing I did see was Warlock's first appearance meme and the end credits card (Legendary Star-Lord) but that end credits scene was the least hype worthy thing I could've witnessed and really put the cherry on the bottom for my already bad opinion of this movie. It didn't feel like the grand epic finale to the trilogy, it just felt like another adventure. If you want a more satisfying ending, look no further than the Telltale game, it actually has a lot of similar beats executed a little bit better in my opinion, I just wish this movie would've taken more inspiration from it because it had the potential to be even better. (though it'd be at the loss of Linda Cardellini and I'm not mentally prepared for that) It wasn't even a bad movie, it was just a bad Guardians movie and an average Marvel movie so the expectation of a preexisting franchise made me give it a slightly lower score.

Emily watches "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3."

The media narratives around Marvel movies are so strange. The last Ant-Man movie was dubbed "rotten" and one of the worst when I thought it was better than the second film in that series. This one is "the best Marvel movie since Endgame" but I don't think it's as good as either of the previous two?

I think maybe it left me a bit cold because the ads make it seem like this will be Rocket's movie when it's still very much a Star-Lord movie. And I happen to find Star-Lord to be the least interesting of the Guardians.

Rocket's "arc" (I use sarcastic quote marks) seems to be making peace with the fact that he is a raccoon. Which could have been interesting, I think. If it explored more about the fact that we are all animals, none of us were meant to be anything more. Evolution or the High Evolutionary, in some cases, decides "who matters" for us. But he's unconscious for most of the movie and then he sees a crate of raccoons and realizes he used to be one. That's it.

Is it satisfying when he does get to shoot the High Evolutionary? Yes. But it's a very small part of the movie.

I think the main arc is Peter letting Gamora go and, maybe, Rocket becoming the leader of the Guardians.

... And listen, bro, she was gone in 2018. It sucks. But I feel like the audience has moved ahead of the movie in this case. Not only have we mourned Gamora already, we saw Rocket and Nebula be the Guardians of the Galaxy during the Blip. We know he can function without Peter being around.

I would have rather seen a movie about Gamora finding her home with the Ravagers. She lets them hug her. When did that happen? And how? What have they been up to?

Mantis, Drax and Nebula's decisions to leave the group at the end felt strange and rushed. I'm glad Drax gets to be a Dad and Mantis gets to be herself. I have no idea why Nebula "needs" to run the city. (I kind of want the sisters to be together and I'm sad about them being separate but they seem okay with it, I guess. I just don't know why.)

My favorite part was Rocket randomly calling Nebula "Nebs" in an offhand way. IDK what that says about me and where my priorities are.

As for "Star-Lord will return." Honestly I would've been happier to see any other character name or group instead. Adam Warlock will return? Fine. Rocket will return? Great. Star-Lord will? Why? He's already had three movies about him. And the most interesting choice he has ever made was all, "what's so wrong with that?" when his god father said, "You'll be just like everyone else." Which was glossed over, pretty much.

Choosing to be normal when you could be a god is objectively cool but I thought Rocket and Gamora's arcs in the second movie were still more interesting.

@indigovigilance examining critically is exactly what I live for in fandoms. It’s fun! And it opens eyes and changes minds or at least gives perspective. But I wish the same grace and benefit of the doubt was offered to both characters. It’s important to find the honor and grace in crowley’s actions in comparison to other angels and other demons to demonstrate his parallel to human development. But also- point out his flaws too. Because he has human flaws. Not evil demon flaws- human. Just as aziraphale has flawed actions and kind actions. Human.

This is not what I see happening in fandom. As an example- What I see and have read PRE S2, not even getting into 2:

Crowley loves children and animals and is kind to them and loving. He’s a soft nanny. He probably saved children from drowning and hid on the ark or kept them safe. Children or women braid his hair when he’s presenting female. He wouldn’t kill Adam. Aziraphale just watched kids drown and didn’t lift a hand. He didn’t care. He tried to shoot Adam. He hates kids because they are sticky and put hands on his books. He is weird and awkward with warlock. He gives off creeper pedo vibes and is not someone I’d leave my kid with as a magician.

Here we have: ignoring Crowley in canon sinks a duck to drown it for amusement, jokes about hitting pedestrians in the street, considers flinging baby Adam off a cliff, repeatedly asks aziraphale to kill Adam, fanon on his nanny abilities, fanon on saving kids on the ark which isn’t even in the novel, fanon on how he interacts with groups of humans. Why not talk about how he in canon saves the dove aziraphale offs? That’s a huge one! Or the entire point that he as a supposedly ‘evil’ demon is the one who wants to save everything! It’s the whole plot! He’s the focal point!

For aziraphale- fanon that he stands there and watches kids drown. Canon that he says he can’t go against Gods plan, but why not fanonnize that he saves kids too? Why just Crowley? Canon that he tries to shoot Adam and is diverted by madame Tracy. ALSO canon Crowley is begging him to shoot Adam! But fans get mad at aziraphale. He disguises himself unattractive as the gardener to make a point on everyone needing kindness, like brother slug, not just attractive things like something cute. Warlock is fine with him and enjoys his company. Fanon turns this into warlock is creeped out by brother francis. Where? Why?

Why do I see so many posts are about marvelous mr fell being an embarrassing man with pedo-vibes? Why him and not Crowley as nanny sitting on the edge of warlocks bed? Just writing that makes me feel gross. Of course, no one would think Crowley is a pedo as nanny in warlocks room! But aziraphale gives off vibes? As he’s called a homophobic word?

Do you see why I get worked up? I came into the fandom late and immediately loved Crowley and grew a soft spot for aziraphale. Then I read the novel where Aziraphale is a little more no-nonsense and Crowley is softer and nerdier and loved them both even more. Then I came back to fandom all excited to read fanfic and talk about the characters and was left with… who are these two?

Then S2 came out and instead of exactly as you mention, an evenhanded analysis of crowley’s beliefs and behaviors and aziraphale’s beliefs and behaviors, it’s been bonkers. People straight up hating aziraphale. Taking everything Crowley does with a positive perspective and everything Aziraphale does as a negative. Somehow turning all aziraphale’s interactions with Muriel into creepy and uncomfortable and crowley’s into sweet. (Why do so many people get creeper vibes from Aziraphale, by the way?)

And I guess- the biggest thing bugging me is if we took some of aziraphale’s poor actions and behaviors and beliefs in S1 and S2 and gave them to Crowley, people would find the best spin on it. They’d Excuse him. As it is, the shifty or unkind things he ACTUALLY DOEScIN CANON get brushed away. Actual kind things Aziraphale does get brushed away.

Anathema rides her bike into the side of the Bentley, aziraphale helps her, Crowley fixes his car, and somehow fans STILL find Aziraphale wrong in that situation. Aziraphale is punched in the stomach by other angels and demons come to get Crowley but we get hundreds of essays and fanfics about Crowley’s trauma and and a sort of -oh, maybe Aziraphale should t have been mean to Crowley- about his.

He can’t win with some people. So yeah, now that S2 is here, I get overly defensive. And now people are theorizing on aziraphale and religion for *checks notes* Michael Sheen clarifying himself about the Israel-Palestine situation and getting reemed out on Twitter and playing a pedo creeper in a movie about a pedo creeper. And Crowley being praised for his openness because DT wears an ace pin and is reprising his doctor role for a special everyone is excited about and is about to do Shakespeare.

Do better.

You’re upset. I get it. I’m upset too. But there’s being upset by actual canon and upset by the personal fanon you’ve developed in your head. Aziraphale can and NeEDS to be critiqued, but he should get the same depth of analysis people are willing to give Crowley.,

And there’s a bias at times for fans of Crowley to set him upon a pedestal of perfection and excuse his actions.

Both are flawed. Both make errors. Although immortal and millions of years old, both are still learning at their own pace. They’re learning from humanity.

Perhaps you’re a huge DT fan and give the character Crowley the actual actor or other character’s he’s played personality. Perhaps you dislike MS and his Twitter presence and marriage and acting choices and give those dislikes to the character aziraphale.

Perhaps, deep down, you think chubby people should be groveling for their flaws and thin people you find hot require understanding.

It’s a little odd how fandom falls over themselves to forgive Crowley for any thing he says, anything he does- but if aziraphale had done the same thing, he’d get crucified. Even Crowley doesn’t blame aziraphale as much as fans do.

So go on. Write your essay on why everything aziraphale does is wrong, cold, cruel, and abusive to Crowley while Crowley’s choices deserve deep thought and care to their foundations. Crowley will be there waiting for aziraphale, understanding, even if you’ve written aziraphale off as unforgivable.

Reasons why Guardians of the Galaxy 2 was a trash fire (SPOILERS):

I say all of this with full awareness of the problem being that I’m a huge fan of the ‘08 Guardians comic, which the films don’t even remotely try to follow, but I’m still gonna bitch about it, so let’s go:

The infantilization of Groot (let’s kick off with possibly the silliest complaint). In the comics, Groot has the canonically highest IQ of the Guardians and is a literal genius. When he’s in small tree form, it’s how he regenerates, he doesn’t revert back to the mind of a child like in the films. As such, Groot’s characterization is the most wildly different between the comics and the movies, out of all the characters (but followed very closely by Drax). I get that cute mascot characters sell tickets but it’s just so devastating seeing our good tree boy get such mistreatment! Especially since, honestly, he was much less cute and much more annoying in this sequel than he was in the last installment. Sorry, but it’s true.

Gamora is still a characterless foil for Peter to touch without permission and forced to have some “unspoken” bullshit with. Peter and Gamora aren’t a couple in the comics and would never be, for the exact reasons we see in the film. But they pair them off together anyway cuz what’s a movie without a bad “guy pesters a girl into giving him a chance” trope subplot? Also, they retained Gamora’s laughably bad makeup and extensions from the first movie for some reason. Poor Zoe.

Speaking of which, why isn’t Mantis green?????????? She’s supposed to be like the exact shade of green Gamora is. Mantis is named mantis cuz, like, the fucking insect....which are greeeeeeeeeen. WHY ISN’T SHE GREEN? More importantly though, why isn’t she getting paired off with Peter like she ideally should be? This weird quasi-relationship shit with Drax is funny (and frankly, Drax tellling Mantis that being ugly is good is my favorite part of the film, for personal reasons I care not to share lol), but like, it’s obviously not gonna work out so why not put the canon ship back in the waters? (Because of my previous bullet point, unfortunately). I loved Mantis as a character though, well written and thoroughly enjoyable. By far my favorite character. I just want to her to be all happy with Peter and also BE GREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN. Oh well. Maybe we’ll get lucky and she’ll end up being a lesbian in the films since Phyla is nowhere to be found (I will return to this point btw, ready yourselves).

Drax. Oh Drax. I want to love you. You’re the main comic relief. And frankly you do a good job at it. But...I just prefer you as a stoic Riddick-esque character. I realize this is an unpopular opinion and I don’t know why I feel the way I do. But I’m just not feeling this new and possibly improved Drax. I get his appeal but...I’m not connecting. 

Rocket.................actually I don’t have any complaints with Rocket. He’s the only character that they are doing right by. If he’s not in the Captain Marvel film though, what’s even the point of making Guardians movies, ya know?

Peter, aka Shit-Lord: I HATE YOU IN THIS FILM. YOU WERE SO MUCH MORE LIKABLE AND TRUE TO CANON IN THE FIRST FILM. But they made Quill so fucking pushy and creepy toward Gamora in this one for the sake of a bad awful boring played out relationship dynamic so instead we got this motherfucker. Chris Pratt gave a solid performance, as he is prone to do, but the writing was bad and thus Peter was bad. Unfortunate. 

Yondu’s character arc was some bullshit. They worked so hard in the first movie to establish that Yondu was an abuser. Like, they told a very clear child abuse narrative. And it feels so cheap that they retconned it by going “See? He was a good father after all!” Hey Marvel, The Walking Dead wants its glorifying of a piece of shit storyline back. I don’t know, y’all. I’m willing to hear out redemption arcs, but this wasn’t even that. I’m gonna maintain that it was a retcon. It wasn’t a redemption arc, it was a retcon. I liked the original Guardians team teaser at the end of the movie though. Good stuff.

Stop teasing Cosmo if you’re not actually gonna use him. I get that adding a telepathic talking astronaut dog to a film would seem like a ridiculous move in any other film, but it’s very fucking okay to do it in this one. We have to see Howard the Duck cameos that literally no one on Earth cares about, but you won’t give us everyone’s favorite leader of the Guardians? Shameful.  

Nebula is not a compelling character. No slight to Karen GIllan’s performance, but like...who actually cares about Nebula? She’s boring and they probably brought her back to the sequel just so James Gunn could point to her and say “Hey look, we gave Gamora some slight character this time!” At least Nebula’s existence forced these films to pass the Bechdel test, I guess. Could be worse.

Why did they lay on the Hasselhoff references so fucking thick? One mention would have been slightly funny but they really kept pounding this joke into the dirt until it was a bloody lifeless corpse. What the fuck?

Brings me to my next point: so so so many out of place comedic moments and not enough focus on plot and characterization. The story was pretty standard comic book shit, but they could have gave us something with more punch if they had spent less time in the writer’s room giving Drax a bunch of jokes instead of investing in other characters and their motivations. There was something going on with Rocket, right? Who knows, not like they were dedicated to telling that story.

I’m not a huge fan of Peter’s father in the comics, but using Ego in this film to make Peter a god for like 5 minutes on screen just to rip the powers away in the end is...actually that’s such a perfect comic book thing to do. I want to criticize that but that might be the most comic book thing in the entire MCU.

WHERE. THE FUCK. IS PHYLA-VELL? I am fucking SEETHING. Phyla is my absolute favorite character in literally all of Marvel, and she is a core member of the Guardians, but is nowhere to be found. Almost like Marvel studios are fucking cowards that won’t put a canon lesbian up in their shit. Exactly the kind of bullshit you’d expect, unfortunately.

Moondragon? Nah. if they won’t put a lesbian in their film, they’re not gonna put a canon bisexual woman in it either. Fucking shameful, especially since her and Phyla are so magnificently gay for each other. We need that. We need that.

That’s all I can think of right now, folks, but I think that pretty sufficiently sums up why I have so many problems with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. It just wasn’t very good, y’all. I hate to be that person, but read the comics, honestly. They are really really good and there’s a scene where Gamora gets burnt to the crisp saving the entire team from certain death, and lives cuz she’s a fucking badass with actual character and importance.

maybe it's the summer or whatever but HECK do I have the hankering for reviving my Gamora and Nebula (of Marvel's MCU / Guardians of the Galaxy) muses. I know this is a niche ask but you can't fault a guy for trying, soooo;

I like creating a private server for me and my partner where we can write and store all the good stuff like music, refs, art, memes, all of that in multiple channels. it's not required to befriend me to write with me, but I do gladly befriend my writing partners! I write in third person, past tense, and usually reply at least once a day, sometimes quicker, sometimes slower. you know how it is; life, in the way, etc. I strive to be communicative and let you know should I get busy. I typically write 2+ paragraphs and can go up to the dozens if given the opportunity, sometimes I simply Cannot Shut Up, but it is never required that you write a whole ass novel just because I insist on doing so. I do require proper grammar, though, although I'm obviously gonna forgive the occasional error, because who doesn't make those? I'm not a native English speaker either!

suuuuuuper open and hype for multiple threads, crossovers, AUs, even multifandom + tupperbot and dice maiden. I love slow burn as much as love at first sight, angst and fluff, hurt and comfort and occasional smut, mostly just everything in a nice balance. I'm not interested in toxic ships; I like my ships to suffer, sure, but not because they're actively terrible for each other for idk steamy reasons I guess. I like them to struggle but come out the other side together and stronger, beat their obstacles and have love conquer all.

i'm reading up on the history of thanos on the marvel wiki right now, and that means i am learning a lot of facts about adam warlock against my will, and i already thought he was a weird confusing dude, but every fact i learn about him makes it worse

so far:

adam warlock willingly gave thanos not one but two (2) infinity stones. after thanos had used the infinity gauntlet to kill half the universe

warlock got split into his good half and his evil half. but at various points the three of them have all existed simultaneously, which means there are 3 bodies that add up to 2 whole adam warlocks. but also warlock is his own good half, so he has 2 good halves. so possibly it only adds up to 1.5 adam warlocks? which is still too many warlocks.

also one of his good halves tried to commit genocide so i don't understand how it's a good half? he has 3 halves and 2 of them want to commit mass murder. I know a world where the inhumans are regularly considered heroes definitely has a fucked up concept of heroism, but how the fuck is warlock considered a hero?

warlock willingly gave mephisto a cosmic cube. I don't really understand why satan needs a magic space computer, but i don't think him having one is a good idea

warlock saved the universe from being destroyed by his own good side (the one who isn't him) by creating the matrix using 5 cosmic cubes he stole from own his evil side and trapping his good side inside the matrix so she (the genocidal good side is female, just go with it) destroyed that instead of actual reality

warlock has the ability to physically enter the soul stone and just hang out on there if he feels like it. not just his soul, his entire body just gets sucked in there like the magic school bus going inside a human body

warlock physically entered the soul gem, and then GAVE IT TO THANOS TO LOOK AFTER. thanos had killed him at least once at this point, and had also killed all the people warlock most cares about at least once. but you know. trustworthy guy. adam warlock stop giving thanos infinity stones challenge

for a while warlock, gamora, and pip the troll (if you're not familiar, he's a little troll dude who hangs out in space and is part of warlock's polycule, and yes gamora, sexy space assassin who gets to be in hundred million dollar movies, is in a polycule with a literal troll, which i guess explains how she's attracted to chris pratt) were ghosts wearing the corpses of recently deceased humans like overcoats, and we were supposed to just be fine with that

Literally everything I learn about this dude is insane, and for like 2 decades, everyone just accepted him as a normal part of marvel comics, that is just wild to me. even in a universe where jack kirby was canonically the physical manifestation of god on earth and silver surfer has the power to give anything he wants polkadots, somehow adam warlock is still the most insane character in the 616
