In the first the three are having fun but there’s all this space and emptiness in their little circle. They stretch themselves to fill as much of that space as possible. When the fourth joins there’s so much less negative space and the other dogs look so much happier and they fit together so well.

By joining the lonely dog enhances the lives of the dogs they admired from afar.

The other dogs weren’t suffering and the lonely dog didn’t save them from any great monsters, but they wouldn’t be as happy without their new friend

And this is why I prefer DuChamp to Warhol. They both knew the game: connections, privilege, money, and artist brand. Warhol twisted it to win and become famous, DuChamp noticed he was famous and then tried to tell the rich people they were dumb for being so serious about his work when there were other great artists by being like okay here is some original art: snow shovel, signed urinal.
