OC-TOBER 2023 PROMPTS!!
general tag: #oc-tober / my prompts: #bweirdOCtober
F.A.Q:
Do I have to draw EVERY DAY?
NO! I highly encourage skipping as many days as you need to avoid burnout! There are 10 main days in the event (marked with a â star) that you can focus on if you don't feel up to doing every day, or you can choose your own adventure and just do the prompts you personally like!
Do I have to DRAW?
NO! You can also write fanfiction snippets, repost older art that fits the theme, tweet headcanons/backstory, roleplay in-character as your oc ... genuinely anything that fits the theme is OK!!
Can I start early?
YES! I understand some people work at a slower pace and might need a head start! So long as you wait until October to post it, you can start working as early as you need!
I missed the start of the event .. do I have to catch up?
NO! Please don't stress about days you missed, you're allowed to just skip to the current prompt!
RULES:
1. MAKE FRIENDS! The community is the best part of this event .. please try to follow new people, ask questions about ocs you like, compliment people's styles, ask friends to create with you, etc!
2. TAKE IT EASY! Skip a day if you're tired, busy or just not interested in the prompt. You don't have to catch up on it later. This is supposed to be fun, not work!
3. BE KIND! Please think about the people around you - don't give people unwarranted harsh criticism, content warn for themes/imagery in your work that could trigger someone, don't create anything hateful, etc

Midnight rain
pairing: Lando Norris x reader
summary: Lando wanted a family, but you werenât ready. Three months after your breakup, he's still in love with you, and now it's your turn to decide whether or not to give him a second chance.
âYouâre exhausting,â you groaned into the phone.
It was well into the morning when Landoâs name flashed on your screen, which wouldnât have been so surprising if you were in the same time zone. But you were in Singapore, six hours ahead of Belgium, which meant it was around three in the morning over there. When he spoke, his speech was slurred, he was obviously struggling to form coherent sentences, but he sounded hell-bent on talking to you right now.
Since you were almost at the stadium for rehearsal before tonight's concert, you didn't feel like keeping up the conversation, but the way his voice broke made you listen. You knew he hadn't been in the best state of mind since the breakup, but the fact he still felt so miserable made you sad.
âWe would have beautiful babies, you and me. Why don't you want to see them? A mini you, or a mini me, maybe a mini mix of us⊠So cute,â he said, at least thatâs what you managed to understand from his mess of a speech.
And he giggled. You could imagine him lying on his back, one hand holding the phone while the other hugged a pillow to his chest. Rolling your eyes, you thought about what to say to this. It was always the same story, he would call you, tell you how much he missed you, how much he loved you, how he wished you would marry him, and how much he wanted to have a child with you.
The same things that made you break up with him in the first place. He told you about his vision; a big wedding somewhere remote, then the two of you would travel together, preferably with you coming to his races as a good luck charm, and soon you would welcome your first child who would be spoiled rotten.
That's not what you wanted. You wanted to focus on your career, you wanted to go on tours, you wanted to make more albums, you wanted to do so much before becoming a wife and a mother. Lando didn't seem to understand this, he kept telling you it would be okay, that there were many singers who could return to where they'd been before, but you didn't buy it.
âGo to sleep, Lando,â you told him calmly, hoping that gentle parenting would work.
âNo, I won't sleep until you're back to me. I'll stay awake andâDonât touch my phone, Osc!â he protested suddenly.
You heard some bickering in the background, which was followed by a long sigh. âHey, it's Oscar. I'm sorry, we stayed with him and have been trying to keep him from calling you, but he somehow snatched his phone back from Max. You okay?â
At least he was in good hands and under supervision. âYeah, sure, thanks for staying with him. Good race for you two by the way,â you said with a smile.
âYou watched it?â
âWell, I checked the results and saw the highlights.â
There was a short break which made you wonder if he was still there, but then he spoke up again. âListen, I donât want to be involved in this, but Iâm worried about Lando. You broke up three months ago and heâs still a mess. I get it, you donât want marriage and kids yet, but maybe he would understand your reasons and agree to wait if you just sat down to discuss it.â You didnât know what to say to that, but apparently Oscar was also a bit hesitant. âDo you still love him?â
âI donât know if itâs love, but I care about him. We were together for over three years, itâs not gonna disappear from my life in a blink of an eye,â you explained. âBut⊠I donât know, Iâm just afraid he would be back at it in a matter of weeks, once again trying to convince me to start a family with him.â
âAnd if we talked to him when he was sober? If we made sure he understands what youâve been trying to tell him? Would you give him another chance?â
You took a deep breath, then exhaled slowly. Would you? Would it be worth it? You were on tour right now, but after the next four concerts you would end the Asian leg and have a few weeks for yourself. You would have time to figure things out. âI would talk to him, and maybe I would be willing to try again. Once last time. The moment heâs back on his bullshit, Iâm going to leave him for good,â you added.
You could hear the soft laugh from Oscarâs side, and you could see him glancing down at his teammate with a smile. âIâm sure he would like it. Iâm not sure how long heâll be knocked out once we convince him to sleep, but Iâll tell him to call you at a reasonable time when heâs finally sober again, okay?â
âYeah, okay. Thanks for everything.â
He said goodbye and left you with your thoughts, wondering if you made the right call. Maybe there was a part of you that wanted to be with him, because the years you spent together meant a lot to you. He was one of the kindest people youâve ever met, a ray of sunshine, really, in stark contrast with your sometimes gloomy personality.
But who knew, maybe his friends can talk some sense into him.
Lando knew he only had one chance at this. All his friends were very clear about this, Oscar especially, since he had been the one to talk to you. During that one phone call a week ago, you agreed to come to him in Monaco, visiting his apartment so you wouldnât have this conversation at a public place. It was something between the two of you, there was no need for strangers hearing even snippets of it.
When you arrived and his eyes fell on you again, every single thought left his brain. He was just standing there in the door, utterly speechless, surprised that he didnât start drooling at the sight. After all those months spent looking at photos of you at your concerts, seeming like you had the time of your life on the stage, it was so nice to see this you, the one without the sparkling dresses, the down-to-earth girl he loved so much it hurt.
âCan I come in?â you asked him hesitantly.
He blinked a few times before realizing he had been staring for a little too long. âSure, sure, come in,â he said as he stepped out of the way. âCan I bring you anything?â
Shaking your head, you sat on the couch and patted the empty space next to you. Like a well-trained puppy, Lando sat down and turned to look at you, taking in every little detail as if this was the last time he saw you. Because maybe this was the last time, maybe you would end the conversation with the decision that this relationship couldnât be revived.
After several painfully silent minutes later, you finally stopped fidgeting with your ring and let out a long sigh. âI donât want to start a family yet, at least not the way you want it. Marriage is one thing, but⊠You expected me to spend my time following you around. I have my own career to nurture, Lan, you need to understand that. Sure, one day Iâll be ready for it, but not yet,â you explained kindly, your eyes examining his face for a reaction.
But Lando knew better than to let his disappointment be visible, he fought hard to keep it away from you. So, when he spoke up, his voice was also kept neutral. âBut you wouldnât be against it one day, right? Starting a family with me, I mean,â he said, deep down hoping there would be a dazzling smile on your face as you replied.
You smiled, but it was more of a polite, maybe little uncertain smile. âYeah, one day, although I canât tell you when, I canât give you a deadline. Maybe in our early thirties, maybe sooner. You would have to wait and see. Do you think you can do that?â
He couldnât hold back a sad laugh, mostly because you didnât really give him the choice to negotiate. You told him what you had to offer, and it was a take it or leave it situation. And he wanted you back in his life, he wanted to be by your side every step of the way, he wanted to be your biggest fan, and he needed you to support him. âI can. For you,â he added seriously as he reached out to take your hand.

After missing a date, Luke and Kieran make it up to you⊠kind of.
âł Are you going to be done soon?
That was the last text youâd sent, approximately half an hour ago.
And there had been nothing since.
The late reply of ââł Yep, sorry, weâll be there in ten!â remained unread on Lukeâs phone, calls left unansweredâand no matter how many times Kieran would pester him about it, nothing else seemed to warrant a response. Truthfully, they almost had to wonder if this last-minute errand theyâd been sent on was on purpose, but they had little mind to truly question their own boss. After all, they were more than willing to carry out his orders, in the end⊠It was only the timing that had been unfortunate.
Kieran eyed his brother as they padded across the living room to your bedroom door; âItâs your fault, you know. You shouldâve stopped messing around, then weâd be done sooner.â
His voice was a lot calmer than Lukeâs, who was more visibly disturbed by the fact that you hadnât been responding to them.Â
âWell, shit, butâwhereâs the fun in leaving just like that? Yâthink sheâs mad at usâŠ? We told her weâd be late, though!â
âIf she is, I donât think we can blame her for it. We made a promise.â
The door to your bedroom was slightly ajar, and Kieran gently pushed it open. Two heads poked into the doorway.
âAh, sheâs adorableâŠâ
Moonlight streamed in through the window, open just a little bit to let the nighttime breeze slip through. It was a lot different in Linkon than the N109 zone. A lot more peaceful, in a sense, and less dreary. The twins had taken some time to get used to being in the city more often, but they could understand why you were never too keen to spend time at the base. If youâd really gotten used to a place like this, then⊠The N109 zone really would be a shock.
And Kieran figured, too, that it was why you always tended to sleep better when you were here.
Small steps forwardâit was Luke who approached your sleeping figure first, turned to your side facing towards the door and hugging one of your pillows between your legs. His hand reached out, a deft brush of his fingertips against your hair. â God, sheâs really beautiful. Look at how peaceful her smile isâŠâ
Kieran sat down behind you, leaning over to peer at your expression. He looked as if he were to say something, but he turned his head to glance at the clock on your wall.
Past midnight.
âSee, I told you we pushed it too long. No wonder sheâs asleep.â
âBut at least she isnât mad at usâŠ!â
âHow would you know that?â
âWell, she could have just fallen asleep! She didnât say she was mad at us!â
A pause, and a roll of eyes.
âFine, then if she wakes up and scolds us, youâre doing what I say for a week.â
âYeah?! Then if she doesnât scold us, youâre doing what I say!â
You stirred slightly at that.
It was almost as if on cue, and the twinsâ attention snapped immediately back to you. Theyâd been a little loud, that was certain. They were half expecting you to open your eyesâŠ
But you didnât.
Theyâd both let out a sigh of relief at that.
Nevertheless, Kieran took to following his brotherâs earlier actions, reaching over to stroke your hair. Soft, gentle movements, trailing a finger down the side of your face for a moment before moving a lock of hair behind your ear. A fleeting kiss was placed over your eyelids, and for a moment, there was silence.
â...We should let her sleep, though,â he mumbled then. This time he spoke lower so as to keep you from stirring from your dreams as you had earlier.
Luke, however, had other ideas.
âWhat? After making that bet with me?! Youâre just trying to get out of it now!â
âIâm not! Just, if sheâs tired, then should we really be waking her upâŠ?â
Luke huffed, pushing Kieranâs hand away from your face, and giving him a pointed look. âRelax! You know sheâs already given us permission to do things like this, anyway!â Slowly, a grin spread across his face. âHey⊠first one to wake her up gets to dish out orders for an extra week.â
âLukeâ!â
Yet Kieranâs protest fell on deaf ears.
Without wasting a second, Luke rested his hand on your cheek and leaned in, a soft kiss placed upon your lips. The motion was slow and smooth, taking his time. And it was gentle. The flutter of his eyelashes tickled your skin as his eyes closed. There was always something so sweet in the way that Luke kissed youânow was not an exception. The feeling of it would linger, make you want more of it. Had you been awake, you wouldnât have allowed him to pull away.
But he did.
Kieran almost seemed to be holding his breath, and both of them looked at you, once again, expectantly.
Another grin spread on Lukeâs face. âHmm, what do you know? Pretty girl sleeps soundly!â he chuckled.
With a click of his tongue, Kieran, this time, took to wrapping his arms around your figure as if to tug you closer to him. âAs if you didnât know! It took way more than a kiss to wake her up the last time we did this.â
âHa! And as if you didnât doubt it for a moment, too!â
â...Whatever. Itâs my turn.â
Kieran scoffed at his brother before burying his face into your neck, easily attaching his lips to your skin. And unlike Luke, there wasnât any gentleness laced into it. He suckled at your flesh in a more purposeful manner, teeth nipping the sensitive skin. His moves were calculated. Sure. If they were going to play this game, he intended not to lose.
In response, Luke let out a low whistle, sliding the pillow out of your grasp. âYâknow, sometimes, the resemblance is so uncanny,â he joked. âSylus of you much?â
But those words only prompted the younger twin to slide his hand over your waist, moving downwards to lift up your nightgown. His insistence on leaving marks over your neck remained; he would shift from one spot to the next as if to leave proof of tonightâs activities. And slowly, his hand began to move up and down your thigh. He left light caresses, meant to soothe the graze of his teeth on your neck. He was silent, mostly. Allowing his mouth and his touch to do the work, suckling wet noises filling the room that made Luke let out a huff of indignance.
âHey, no fair!â
Except, with both of them, the fact was that neither was keen on playing⊠âfairâ.
Almost as if riled up by Kieranâs actions, he slotted himself between your arms, and subconsciously, the both of them could feel the way your neck craned, a leg moving upwards over Lukeâs waist as if to hug him tighter. Heâd taken your pillow, after allâand at the moment, unbeknownst to you yourself, he was serving as its replacement.
Not that he minded.
He treasured the momentary flash of envy that gleamed in Kieranâs eyes, clearly having wanted to receive the same attention from you. He grinned, and it was almost triumphant. Enough for Kieran to narrow his eyes, deftly reaching to cup your mound into his hand.
âAw, donât be like that~â Luke continued to tease, lifting your nightgown high enough to bunch up over your breasts.
At this point, they had rendered you mostly exposed to them, and for a moment, neither of them moved. Eyes remained on each other, gauging the otherâs reaction, almost as if waiting for the right moment to move.
It happened slowly.
Kieran was the first to move this time, dragging his middle finger from your clothed slit upwards. The motion repeated. Simple, unhurried strokes with the intention of getting you wet enoughïżœïżœïżœ and there was a pleased smile on his face when it did .
Wetness began to pool at your entrance, each touch causing the damp on the fabric to grow larger.
Yet, Luke was not one to leave all the satisfaction to his brother.
With a scoff, he leaned down to take your nipple into his mouth, circling it lightly with his tongue. His hand moved from your waist to cup the other, index and thumb reaching to give it a little brush. It was easy to have them pebble under his actions, and it was a reaction that served enough to keep that triumph in his eyes.
And thenâ
âM-mmâŠâ
Both boysâ eyes shot up to your face.
The sound was breathy; thick with sleep.
Your lips were slightly parted, breathing a little quicker than usual.
But aside from that, you showed no other signs from stirring. Your eyes were closed. Still mostly unaware, you could feel a blossoming warmth settling somewhere into your stomach, their light touches familiar enough to coax out an involuntary response from your body despite your lack of consciousnessâbut it still not enough to wake you.
Again, the twins shared a look.
And, this time, it felt less like a competition⊠and more like a shared desire to pleasure you out of your sleep.
Perhaps, they thought, the bet would fall to null in the end.
Satisfied with the wetness that had pooled in your panties, Kieran pushed the fabric aside and circled a finger at your entrance. The movement gathered the slick of your arousal onto his finger, unmistakable wet noises even further proof of it. Leaning over your shoulder to watch, he slowly pushed it inside.
âSheâs really warm.â
It was an objective comment.
âAnd sheâs pretty like this,â Luke emphasized, always keen to shower you with compliments every moment he got. âAlways so welcoming of whatever we do to her⊠Sheâs something else, huh?â
âSheâs our pretty girl, after all.â
With a sigh against your neck and a nuzzle into your skin, his finger began to move inside you at a steady rhythm.
And this time, Luke let out a smirk.
While his lips moved back to suckling at your nipples in a fond manner, his hand slowly slid down your body to pause right next to Kieranâs. A brief moment of respite, anticipation somehow casting itself into the air, before his finger slid right in.
It was this intrusion that had you drawing in a breath, body jolting slightly in an instinctive response.
Yet you didnât quite push them away, nor were you conscious enough to try to.
Instead, you welcomed the feeling.
It stirred deep in your consciousness; barely aware of what they were doing, yet aware of the vague pooling of pleasure that shifted around inside of you. Your hips moved. Slight, tiny jerks that felt more like jumps every time one of their fingers grazed against your sweet spot.
âDamn,â Luke let out a laugh under his breath. He placed a thumb to your clit, rubbing in light, teasing circles. âKieran, look. Sheâs so cute!â
The younger twin let out a grin in response, this time fondly watching the slight twitches in your expression. His eyes were half-lidded, never quite leaving your own closed ones, and a soft sigh left his lips.
âMhm,â he muttered. âI like it when sheâs like this.â
A look of loveâone that, if only you could have seen it, would have had you keening.
Their fingers moved in a cyclical pattern: slow rubs on your clit, plunging in and out of your heat in a steady rhythm, before switching to alternating in a level of synchronicity that they were quite proud they could pull off. Eventually, your chest heaved in response to the pleasure, a slight tremor settling into your thighs. Your eyebrows knitted together, and it was a display of pleasure the twins knew more than well, elated to witness such familiar reactions even in your current state. It almost seemed as if a rush of pleasure hazed over the three of you in that moment, so much that Kieran reached over to take out his cock to rub directly against your ass, Luke seizing the opportunity to add another finger into your hole as his tongue once again flicked at your nipples.
Your bodies had found a rhythm.
A little push and pull, hips rocking to meet the thrust of their fingers as if, despite your obvious haze of sleep, you simply couldnât help but react to them.
And then for the first time that night, Kieranâs lips found yours.
His kisses were different.
If Lukeâs had always been sweet, and slow, and smooth, Kieranâs were breathtaking. He could breathe you in just as you would him, deeper and deeper, as if your body could only melt into his mouth at the fervor with which he would move. He would kiss you, and kiss you, and kiss youâsuch a stark contrast to the manner with which he carried himself, always a more passionate display of his affections that you wouldn't get from him otherwise.
Their fingers picked up the pace.
Kieran continued to rut against you, pushing their fingers deeper and deeper with each rock of his hips. Luke began to suck at your nipples in a harsher manner, pulling and tugging at them with more insistence. And, at this point, the pleasure more rapidly registering in your mind had you squirming in their hold.
It was getting harder to stay in a blissful state of ignorance.
Now, with Kieran pulling away from you to catch his breath, your mouth fell open in a groan, eyes moving in an almost confused manner behind your eyelids, too heavy to open them yet whirring your brain steadily more awake.
âOoh, sheâs about to wake up~â came Lukeâs voice, a musical trill to it that let you know that he was pleased. Having since released your breasts with a wet âpop!â , you could feel him lean in to place a kiss on the tip of your nose. âCâmon, câmon⊠Wake up, baby, wake upâŠâ
Their fingers curled, and with a cry you jolted awake, eyes blinking wide open as you reached out to latch onto Lukeâs arm. Pleasure washed over you in crashing peaks, soothing whispers from both boys cooing into your ears.
Your vision was hazy, chest heaving in shock, and you felt lightheaded.
Yet you recognized the kisses that peppered the side of your face.
âMngh⊠K- KieranâŠ?â
You barely had the energy to move, and yet, as if in retaliation to you mentioning only one of them, a thumb flicked once again over your puffy clit and you heard a scoff.
It made you jolt, and sleepily, you let out a smile and tried to blink yourself into focus, breath catching from your earlier orgasm.
âHi,â you giggled a little. Your hand moved from his arm to his cheek, and his expression softened.
âHi,â Luke murmured. âMorninâ, sunshine.â
With a sigh, you tilted your head back a little to nuzzle at Kieranâs cheek, before feeling your eyes fall back closed. âMâsleepy⊠Youâre late, you guysâŠâ you muttered.
âIt was Lukeâs fault.â
âHey!â
âI told him toââ
You shook your head a little, effectively getting them to stop before a potential argument ensued. And in response, you felt a finger gently pull at your bottom lip, pushing inside your mouth when youâd happily obliged.
âHere, taste yourself,â came Kieranâs voice. âYou were really wet. Did it feel good? Did we make it up to you?â
You sucked his finger clean before he pulled it back out, and you offered a little chuckle. You didnât say anything in return, but instead pushed yourself against his erection, your hand sliding down to palm Luke through his pants.
âShitâ babyââ
You could have laughed at that immediate reaction, and the same sharp intake of breath from his twin. But instead, you found yourself letting out a yawn. âMm, you did, sure⊠But Iâm still sleepy. What about the problem you made for yourselves?â
âSo you do want us to fuck you, after all.â
Kieranâs words, as straight-to-the-point as always, had you opening your eyes in mild embarrassment.
âOh⊠I mean⊠Arenât you?â you looked between both of them with a sheepish smile.
For a moment there was a pause, and both the boys shared a look.
You watched as a slow smile spread on both their faces.
âWell, yeah, weâll fuck youââ
ââlike you want us to, clearlyââ
ââbut youâre only going to haveââ
ââone of us for tonight.â
Kieranâs hand moved to grasp at the supple flesh of your ass, kneading it in a gentle, soothing motion. â Since youâre sleepy, and we havenât prepped you enough,â he added, for good measure. âWe can be nice, too, you know?â
Another smile made its way to your face then, and you snuggled back into your pillow, gladly wrapping your arms around Luke as if to snuggle close to him.
âYou know I always let you do whatever.â
You felt Kieran twitch behind you in response, and Luke rested a palm over your head to ruffle your hair. âThatâs a good girl,â he cooed.
Kieran scoffed. âBut I won, you know. She did scold us.â
âAww, but youâve already been grinding against her anyway! Let me have this!â
âWe could switchâŠâ
â Nuh- uh. This wasnât part of the bet! And we didnât say the orders had to start now, right?â
The younger twin huffed. And while you had made yourself comfortable in their embrace, you couldnât help but let out a soft laugh. âItâs okay,â you murmured. âIâll just have you in the morning then, Kie. Wonât it be better that way?â
Your words were met with a sigh and a kiss on the corner of your lips, causing you to smile.
âHard to say no to a pretty girl.â
His words had you shivering involuntarilyâthe praise, the sound of his voice so close to your ear... You couldnât help but whine as you felt him buck into you once more, and the low chuckle that he let out nearly had you burying your face further into the pillow.
âWhat?â you could hear the grin in Kieranâs voice. âAll riled up already?â
You didnât quite answer, only letting out a squeak as you felt the other twin shift beside you until something brushed directly against your clit.
âStop distracting her, Kieran!â Luke let out a huff, and then there was a little kiss against your lips before Kieran pulled away from you.
It was at that moment you opened your eyes again, turning your head slightly with a pout.
âWait, huhâŠ? Whereâre you going?â
Kieran smiled. âDo you trust me?â
âWell, yesâŠâ
âGood. Then donât worry about it. Just focus on Luke.â
As if on cue, the twin in question slowly guided you back to face him. And there was that sweet, loving, adoring smile on his face that made you melt. You would never get over how sharp the contrast always was between how he normally was and how he would treat you, always a comfort to be all wrapped up in his arms like this.
A finger to your lips, and he slowly raised your leg higher to wrap around his waist, languid movements to slide his dick between your folds. Every so often he would graze over your sensitive nub, the contact had you jolting, feeling the friction between you two in an instant that it was enough to have you biting your lip.
âShhh,â he gave you a little wink. His finger trailed your jawline and over the marks that Kieran had left on you, before ultimately wrapping his arms back around your torso. The position had you shifting to rest your head against his chest, the scent of his cologne more obvious to you now. âCâmere, sunshine, Iâll take care of you. Go back to sleep, âkay?â
Iâll take care of you.
The words made you smile.
And it was easy enough for him to distract you from the noise of your drawer being opened, your cheeks flushing pink as he pulled you into another one of those sweet, sweet kisses of his. Every time, you could swear you tasted candy on his tongueâautomatically you felt your eyes fall shut, taking in the delicate movements of his lips as he finally slid inside of you.
Slowly, slowly.
They always took their time with you. They always took care of you.
He eased himself into your cunt, inch by inch. It was the first full thrust that had you gasping into his mouth; the stretch of his cock was still something that caught you off-guard. But he would soothe you. Little whispers, little kisses, little caresses⊠in truth, he was just as lost in it as you were. Every so often he would pull away from his kisses to grunt into your ear, his voice breathy and trembling.
Yet the rock of his hips stayed gentle.
Rhythmic.
Almost as if waves on a shore.
It didnât take long for you to match him, eyes still closed, panting into his chest as you moved to grip his collar. Your bodies moved languidly together, and he pushed himself deep enough for you to let out a quiet groan.
Luke wasnât often good with consistency, but even you could tell that he was keeping up the effort this timeâquite obviously working to lull you into this suspended state of near-sleep, half awake, yet certainly still conscious enough to register those little jolts of pleasure.
âLike that? Is that good? Câmon, baby, itâs okay, just keep your eyes closedâŠâ
Words of reassurance, that sweetness in his voiceâŠ
Muffled moans would escape your lips every now and then, but at this point, you had barely the consciousness to register the weight of the mattress shift behind you. Your walls fluttered around his cock, gripping him tightly as a cool liquid dripped down the curve of your ass. It caused him to twitchâand behind you came that familiar, familiar low chuckle, a hand placed back to massage at your supple flesh.
âUghâ haah âcâmon⊠Barely evenânnhâfive minutesâ!â Luke raised his head to give Kieran an indignant huff, but his hips continued to fuck up into you.
And Kieran only shrugged.
âI said Iâd have my fun, too.â
You felt trapped, in a sense, as he, too, caged you into his arms, but the warmth was comforting. You couldnât help but smile.
âShitââ
It was at the same time that Kieranâs finger edged closer to your hole, causing you to involuntarily clench around the cock inside of you yet again. A soft âmmâŠâ fell from your lips, the same finger circling around and prodding the ring of muscle, gathering the lube that he had just poured out onto you.
âShhhh, shh. Itâs just me, pretty girl.â
The shushing again, this time from a lower voice.
Kieran attached his lips to the shell of your ear, giving a tentative kitten lick.
âOh, fuckâ fuck, sheâs so tightââ Lukeâs moans grew louder, and by this point, the well-kept rhythm of his thrusts had faltered. His hips stuttered, trying to control his breathing through his nose.
When your eyes opened again, the image of his flushed expression and the desperate tears that pricked at his eyes nearly made you gasp.
âLukeâŠâ you whispered, eyes still drooping sleepily, yet the sensations they were both giving you made it harder to truly just⊠sleep.
âUghâ nnghâ baby, just⊠Shit,  y-youâre so good, such a p-pretty little pussyâŠâÂ
He was panting, thrusting up into you, his hand moving to grip your thigh to allow him to do it harder.
Only, his movements seemed to spread your cheeks open just a little more, and you could practically feel Kieranâs smile against your ear.
âOh, you wanna be awake for this, baby?â he murmured. He continued to massage at your little hole, still nice enough to ease you into it despite how many times you had done this with them anyway.Â
âMm⊠mhmâŠâ you nod breathlessly, only able to find solace in the way you tightened your hold over Lukeâs arms.
You were already sensitive.
Lukeâs gentle thrusts were bearable; they felt nice and cozy and warm, enough to build the pleasure back up and have you panting into him. But the faster and harder he went, the more awake you felt. Too distracted by the pleasure to speak, too distracted by the anticipation of being filled, somehow, in both holes like you knew you always ended up with the both of them.
âPleaseâŠâ a quiet, needy moan fell from your lips, head trying to tilt back up to look at the twin behind you. âPlease, please, please, KieâŠâ
The nickname again.
You heard him hiss into your ear, and though youâd been distracted by the way Lukeâs motions would cause your bed to rock, you were made equally as aware of the way Kieran had been rutting into his hand, trying to ease the aching of his cock.
You couldnât see it, but the image in your head nearly made your throat close up.
Your walls fluttered, and he took the chanceâdone with teasing you, his finger pushed slowly inside, a louder, drawn-out moan ripping from your throat as your head threw back against him in pleasure.
âThere we go. Thatâs a gooodd fucking girlâŠâ
The stretch and that low grunt in your ear had you mewling, clawing at Lukeâs back as if to ground yourself in the moment despite your vision already beginning to swim with stars.
âAnother one, baby, okay?â
âW-waiâwaitâ!â
There was no more waiting.
You squealed as his index finger pushed right in next to his middle, your tight ring of muscle nearly sucking him in.
âSee? Youâre already used to it,â he chuckled.
It was as if the both of them were simply done with being gentle with you, immediately assuming a pace that had them pushing and pulling your hips as they pleased.Â
In and out, in and out.
Every thrustâLuke, and then Kieran, and then Lukeâa pattern that had you crying out their names in an almost nonsensical babble, this time having tears prick at your eyes enough for Luke to let out another curse.
âHoly f- ffuuckinggg shit â so pretty⊠So pretty like th-thaâ haah ââ His eyes rolled back into his head, hips never stopping. âNgh, baby, baby, relax, youâreâsq- squeezing so hard, shitââ
âYeah, is she? Fuckâ take a deep breath, câmon, pretty girl, câmonâŠâ
They would build it up so easily, you were going insane.
âWai-w-waitâ! Iâm gonnaâ gonna cum pleaâplease! Pleââ
Cries tore from your lips the moment Luke brought his hand down to play with your clit, eyes squeezing shutâ
You crashed.
It came with such an intensity you hadnât felt for so long, every inch of your body shaking and jolting, practically screaming with pleasure.
And neither of their movements come at all to a halt.
Sometimes, you couldnât tell if they were doing it to spite you. The dazed grin on Lukeâs face and the way Kieran sunk his teeth into the flesh of your shoulder caused you to let out a choked sob.
And then it was messy.
They didnât so much as give you even a second of warning before painting a stupidly sticky white mess all over your body, all over the sheets . Having pulled out of you, Luke slid himself over your stomach, ropes of cum catching on your bunched-up nightgownâa thick mess slid down your thighs from Kieranâs release, the tip of his cock nudging you ever so slightly and causing his hips to jolt up every so often.
Your chest heaved, vision hazy.
âIdiotsâŠâ you whined, weakly. âLook at the mess you madeâŠâ
For a while, there was no reply.
You half had to wonder if they had fallen asleep, but you knew them well enoughâ
When you shifted to look at them, you let out a huff at the way their eyes seemed to latch onto you and you alone, raking over your body with a sense of pride.
âYou guuyyysssâŠâÂ
Another whine.
And then it was Luke who spoke first.
That stupid grin on his face wouldnât leave, and he had the audacity to send you another one of those winks to you.
âLuke!â
âYouâre a fucking masterpiece, you know?â
You should have expected how giddy his voice sounded.
âLike, shit. Youâre such a pretty pretty little thing⊠God, if I could, Iâd be fucking you all dayââ
âLuke!!!!â
You nearly sat up to give him a smack to the face, but Kieran cut you off with another quick kiss.
It started with one, on your lips, and then tiny, feather-light kisses all over the rest of your face.
Two pecks over your eyelids caused them to close once more, and you let out a little huff.
âKieranâŠâ
âLukeâs right. Youâre pretty like this.â
âHey! But seriouslyââ
âItâs okay. Weâll clean you up, I promise. Stay here and Iâll heat up a bath for us?â
You pouted. â...Okay⊠Then cuddles, yeah? And you owe me a movie nightâŠâ
You couldnât see, but you could certainly more than feel that they were smiling.
With both twins each leaving another little kiss on either side of your cheek, you heard them speakâ
âOâcourse, pretty girl.â

fluorescent | S.R.
in which spencer rambles about rocks and you get distracted
who? spencer reid x fem!BAU!reader
category: fluff
request: yes!
@midnight--raine: could i please have a spence x female!reader where one day they're having a conversation and obviously he starts rambling about some facts or something and the reader kinda zones out while he's talking because shes so focused on the way he gets so passionate about what he's talking about and suddenly she's staring at his lips and is overcome with a POWERFUL urge to kiss the life outta him.
content warnings: kissing, concussion, that's it, this is really just fluffy.
word count: 758
a/n: thank you for the request! i hope to update my pinned post to mention requests soon. I hope you enjoy!
âItâs actually really interesting to see if you ever get the chance,â Spencer told you from his chair. âItâs been discovered that over five hundred minerals fluoresce when theyâre exposed to ultraviolet light.â
Both you and Spencer had been left out of the takedown of the unsub. Him because he was still using a cane to get around and you because you were recovering from a concussion, and Hotch didnât believe you when you said you were fine. Typical.
You sighed and hoisted yourself up so you were sitting on the edge of a desk in the local police station, tilting your head to the side while you watched Spencer talk about rocks. All you had done was ask him if he knew what his birthstone was, and you completely lost him while he started rambling about fluorescent minerals.
It was one of those connections between topics that youâd have to be inside Spencerâs head to fully understand how he had gotten from point A to point B.
It was endearing, the way he got so passionate about things. He didnât even have a degree in geology, and yet he knew so much about minerals like fluorite and calcite. It wasnât even what he was saying to you found so captivating, it was how he was saying it.
Spencer had a tendency to speak with his hands, the bigger the movements, the more excited he was to be telling someone about the subject. So, if he was nearly knocking things over with enthusiasm, who were you to interrupt him?
Suddenly, his hands stilled, and your eyes flicked up to meet his. âY/N, are you okay? Is it your head?â He asked leaning ever so slightly closer to you, as if you were two children sharing a secret.
Your face burned as your skin flushed, but Spencer didnât seem to notice. âIâm alright, Spence. What were you saying about the color?â You urged him to keep going, keeping your question vague enough so that he wouldnât be able to tell you had gotten so distracted by his ardor.
He pursed his lips for a moment before they parted again, âcommon opal doesnât have any iridescence. Most fluorescent common opal is considered amorphous.â He told you, quickly jumping back into his topic of choice.
Smiling, you watched him talk as the words started to float over your head again. Specifically, you watched the way his lips moved as he shared the information with you. Sometimes, he stumbled over his words because his mind was moving faster than his mouth could. You felt honored every time he shared a part of his brain with you.
The fact was, Spencer Reid has pretty lips. They were a pretty pink color, the kind of color that people wanted as lipstick but could never find an exact duplicate of. They were soft. At least, they looked soft.
You couldnât help but wonder what it would be like to kiss him. Spencer never talked about relationships as openly as the rest of the team, especially not the way Morgan did. Very quickly, you realized you had no idea how he would react if you kissed him. Would he pull away? Would he push you away? Would he kiss back?
Spencer was still talking about opals when you moved closer to him, set your hands on his shoulders, and pressed your lips to his.
A soft, surprised noise came from the back of his throat before he kissed you back. He reached his hands up, so they were resting on your waist, no higher and no lower.
It was no small victory that you discovered his lips were as soft as you thought they were. Under your hands, you felt that his heart was pounding as hard as yours was. His lips parted slightly under yours and he pulled you closer to him.
A small crash caused you to jump away from where he was sitting, in your peripheral vision, you could see that his cane had fallen to the ground. For a moment, the two of you just stared at each other, wide-eyed and still trying to catch your breath. âThank you,â he breathed, not taking his eyes off of yours.
âI- For what?â You asked, appalled at the fact that you had done something so brazen, potentially ruining one of your closest friendships.Â
You crouched down and picked up his cane, as you handed it to him, he elected to answer your question, âNo oneâs ever asked me to shut up so nicely before.â

*à©â©â§âË
percy awoke near midnight, having slept for almost seven hours. he had been woken up by a nightmare, just like usual. The stars hanging in the sky painted a serene picture for him as he stared out through the small infirmary window, the view calming him quickly. for once, the camp around him was quiet. no bustling demigods, no chattering kids. just quiet.Â
the son of poseidon sat up, looking around more. he was never in here for as long of a time as he had been currently. he never noticed how old the withering wood was, its brown shade falling to a reddish-beige. they were surrounded by magic but still couldn't repair the infirmary. huh. he could definitely see the imprints the apollo children had made, even just in the small room he was in. there was an overall sense of brightness, despite the late hour it was. it felt welcoming, in a way.Â
he debated on going back to his cabin now or staying here until morning. the harpies would be out, so that definitely wouldn't be preferable. still, could he really stay for this long? y/n had told him to stay until he felt better...
so, he stayed, in hopes of seeing her again. he was still curious about the connection he felt to her. curious about why her eyes felt so familiar. he tried to rack his brain for answer, yet nothing came to mind. there was a faint image of those eyes on a little girl, their e/c being illuminated by a ray of sunshine. but that was where the memory faded. nothing around the young girl seemed familiar, none of the scenery. he couldnât even tell if the memory was indoors.
percy noticed the lack of movement, even inside of the infirmary. apollo kids had to sleep too. the only sound he heard was the low chirping of crickets, occasionally seeing one of their tiny bodies hopping by, being illuminated by the fading moonlight.
the lack of light was seamlessly replaced by an orange hue, accompanying the rising sun in the distance. it mustâve been closer to morning than what he had thought. well, that just meant he got to see this mysterious girl sooner.
the stars faded slowly, as if running from the intruding daylight.
y/n walked into the infirmary, smiles and all, the view causing a small grin to even grow to his own face. the optimistic attitude she often boar wasnât new, but still found a way to draw him in.
âoh!â she looked surprised to see him, was that bad? should he have left when we woke up? the wide smile said otherwise, but he was beginning to think it was permanent, regardless of the situation. his mind raced, and he didnât know why. it wasnât like this with anyone else thatâd help him. why her?
âi didnât realize you were still here. are you feeling better at least?â she questioned, concern lacing her features.
âuh, yeah,â he swallowed, trying to get the ugly taste out of his mouth, â âm feeling a lot better. thank you.â
âitâs what iâm here for,â she replied cheerily, spinning on her heel and moving away from the open doorway.
he gave it a few minutes, then slowly sat up. as the blanket fell from his shoulders, a sudden wave of cool air reminded him of the shirt he wasnât wearing. his eyes roamed the enclosed area, searching for the familiar orange fabric of his camp-tee. then, he saw it hanging on a plastic hanger, seemingly clean. he took slightly shaky steps towards it, eventually shrugging it over his shoulders, letting it fall past his arms.Â
he walked out of the room he was in, slightly zoned out. unfortunately for him, he bumped into the girl he had been trying to figure out.
âah, shit, sorry y/n,â he said quickly, gently reaching to grab her arm to steady her.
she didnât seem bothered. âitâs alright, are you going?â
he nodded, releasing his grip from her arm. âiâll see you around?â he asked, hoping the answer was yes. maybe then he could figure out where he knew her from.
âof course, percy.â
her words made him smile, even if she just meant them half-heartedly. (she definitely did, he could tell.) he stepped out into the now fully-risen sun, its rays beating down on him despite the chill held by the autumn air.
immediately, he was greeted by his short, fast-talking friend. the one and only, leo valdez.
âwhere have you been?â the boy exclaimed, his head tilting slightly upwards to meet percyâs eyes.
âdude, itâs been like a day,â percy said flatly.
almost on instinct, percy checked his pockets for his trusted pen. no matter how long he had had it, he still wasnât used to the fact he couldnât lose it. just like he suspected, it was safely sitting in the back pocket of his jeans.
percyâs gaze wondered back towards the infirmary one last time, before quickly flicking back to leo, trying to listen to what the boy was discussing as they walked further and further away.
he noticed leo looking at him expectantly, and just nodded his head, seemingly agreeing to what had just been said. âyeah, of course.â
âyou werenât listening, were you?â leo groans.
ânot at all,â the boy admitted, not wanting to lie to one of his closest friends.
âtell me again?â he offered, smirking sheepishly down at leo, who rolled his eyes. still, the boy repeated what he had said, this time earning a real response from percy.
the two boys conversed, occasionally shoving each other around as they walked over the dirt pathways winding between the camp cabins. eventually, they heard a horn blow, signaling breakfast.
arriving at the pavilion, percy noticed y/n walking towards a table seating annabeth chase, piper mclean, and luke castellan. wait.
luke castellan?
why was she sitting with luke castellan?Â
why did percy care?Â
he didnât. right?
no, of course he didnât. why would he?

Second, it's come to my attention that at least one entry managed to squeak in under the midnight UTC deadline on November 30th, but wasn't included in the index of entries because it didn't show up in my Tumblr notifications until December 1st:
Roll The Bones, a game about silly wizards in situations by @highqualityduck
If your last-minute entry is in a similar predicament (you can hit the "index of entries" link up there to check), please let me know â but please also check your post's timestamp first, as I can see there are several folks who flubbed their time zone math and posted their entries hours late; if that's you, maybe hang onto it for next year.

A/N: so uhhhh this kinda sucks but it's midnight here and i'm losing my marbles or however that saying goes. happy reading yall w/c: 1.3k

You place your luggage down onto the wooden floor of the rental in Mondstadt city, sighing under your breath. The week-long boat trip from Sumeru to the docks and then another few days worth of slime balloon flight had not been easy on your body, especially since you mostly bury yourself in research upon research instead of strengthening your body.
A sense of peace wells up as you take in the bustling atmosphere of the people and the music carried by the wind through the window as you sit down onto the bed. It was the right choice to go to Mondstadt for your new project! You do miss Wanderer much more than you would ever admit after all the traveling though.
Quickly clearing up your mind, you put away your things and tidy up the room a little so that it is more livable than before. As you hang up the last of your clothes, a piece of paper falls down to the ground. You pick it up and freeze at the realization that it is the note you wanted to leave for Wanderer about leaving. A few moments pass and you give up on trying to think. Whatever will happen is for the future you to worry about!
Meanwhile, your poor boyfriend just returns to your shared abode after having to help the Dendro Archon out in the desert. Wanderer was expecting to see you excitedly rushing to greet him, or at least hear you in the living doing random things but is met with an empty home. His non-existent heart stops beating for a split second. Where did you go!? So the only reasonable action Wanderer can take is to rush out and grab the nearest familiar looking scholar for interrogation.
While questioning his victim, his brain is filled with the worst possibilities he knows, what if you finally realized that he is unsuitable for you, or you got kidnapped or- The poor scholar can barely answer him before getting thrown onto the ground and feeling a gust of wind rushing by, followed by a trail of dust. Wanderer breathes a sigh of relief knowing you are safe and sound. He thanks the Dendro Archon that you are simply on a work trip to Mondstadt of all places.
The anemo vision on his waist glows as he pushes the limit on speed before he inevitably is forced to go on foot once again. The puppet complains under his breath. He did not realize the way to Mondstadt is this long but at least this would be faster than to travel on any other transportation method. He also simply cannot believe that you would leave for your research now of all times. The puppet was away for two, t-w-o weeks(!) and you dare to leave without even informing him beforehand! Admittedly, he was released from his duties much earlier than expected but you could have left a note! (Even if technically you did, the results still matter more in this case)
Wanderer is immediately stopped at the gate of the city. The guards both looked at each other when they saw him rushing over at the speed of light and anger (?) practically radiating off him and swiftly concluded that he is, in fact, a danger. He stops when they block his entry because he is a law-abiding citizen! The scholar stands there in annoyance, one of his feet tapping the ground impatiently as his eyes flit over the two soldiers trying to do their jobs. Even if he would love to just go right over their heads, he can already hear Nahida nagging at him the moment he steps foot in the vicinity of Sumeru.
He zones out slowly at the mind-bogglingly boring questioning and profiling despite its necessity. The puppet wonders if you are doing fieldwork or writing out your plans at the moment. Wanderer is already planning how he would punish you for your lack of communication and- He snaps out of his thoughts at the guards handing back his identification papers with a polite apology for stopping him. He simply nods and walks in. Paperwork is always so tedious!
Meanwhile, you walk around the library of the Knights of Favonius, in awe at the sheer collection of books available and the crisp cleanliness somehow maintained despite everything. The librarian is an oddball but that is just how scholars are sometimes. Not the oddest one you have had the pleasure of meeting, at least. You run your fingers over the leather book spines as you hum along with the music selection from the gramophone. One book, and then another, and another one⊠They begin to stack up higher than you had expected. You stare at the pile in mild contemplation. How are you supposed to bring all of this back?
Lisa, ever the sweetheart, taps your shoulder and promises to help you reserve the books until your next visit. With that out of the way, you carry a comfortable amount in your (not) noodle arms back to your humble abode.
Wanderer walks into the bustling city while looking for your silhouette in the crowds. The guards said that there has been no scholar leaving the city for the last few days so you should still be around the place. He regrets not having planned this out better so he would not have to be walking around like a headless fly right now. He stops for a moment at the water fountain and allows himself to take a breather. You would tease the living hell out of him if you ever find out that he was in such a rush to see you again. Despite the way Wanderer acts, the corners of his mouth rise subconsciously at the thought of your surprised expression when meeting him. Maybe you would even be so happy that you hug him tightly and shower him with affectionâŠ
Instead he gets attacked right in the face with a thick encyclopedia on Mondstadtâs oral legends and a frantic scream that threatens to blow out his eardrums. Truly makes him wonder if he stepped out of the house with the wrong foot or something like that⊠Wanderer still catches the books flying at him, despite the urge to watch the world burn, and looks at the perpetrator in anger until he realizes it is you who did that. You know what, he can forgive you as long as you promise not to leave him without notice again.
You tumble, full Inazuman rom com novel style, sending you and your books flying at the fountain. A blood curdling scream makes its way out of your throat, effectively stunning everyone in the plaza. Honestly, for a moment, you wish that a hole would open up on the ground beneath you and swallow you up. You push yourself up from the ground, your knees still aching from the impact. You slowly look up at your victim and you rub your eyes vigorously at the sight that greets you. Isnât Wanderer supposed to be in Sumeru right now? Are you somehow hallucinating in the middle of the day??
Regardless if this is an illusion whatever twisted god up in Celestia may be subjecting you to, you stand up and rush into your beloved boyfriendâs arms for a hug, deftly avoiding the books and the possibility of falling right into the water. As awkwardly as he is, Wanderer returns your affection. He pats your back lightly while maintaining a delicate balance with the books in his hand and you. Feeling your warmth against him is more than enough to make the trip here worth it.
The touching moment is cut short when you push him away. The puppet pouts a little but allows you to do so either way. âSo uhh, how did you get here? Are you free from your deadlines yet?â He freezes up. Oh no.

Tired.
Tired, tired, tired.
While it was a significantly better change when he quit his job as a salaryman and returned to his life as a sorcerer, Nanami hated how overtime seemed to follow him. But he hated how overtime not only meant coming home late and all tired. Now it meant coming late to you and being robbed of his time with his sweetheart.
It was way past midnight by the time he got through the front door, huffing almost too loudly as he kicked his shoes off and stepped into the quiet of your house.
No show playing on the TV with you on the couch all curled up waiting for him.
No smells coming from the kitchen with your back facing him as you hum to yourself with your attention on making tonight's dinner.
No running up to him to wrap your arms around him and pepper his face with your lips as you welcomed him home in a muffle.
No you to brighten such a shift at work.
Maybe it was better this way. It was late and you had work tomorrow, you had every right to be asleep right now. The slight disappointment from no sign of you awake quickly turns towards himself. How could he be selfish enough to expect you to wait for him at this hour? He had insisted that you should not wait for him so late, you had your own stuff outside of your relationship together and he rather that you would at least rest easy. Besides, you couldn't see him like thisâdark eye bags, a deep frown, and barely standing. Nanami always wanted to be presentable before you, you deserved to see him at his best, not...not like this.
Yet, his heavy steps betrayed him. Despite his best attempts to keep you asleep, your light sleep triggered and caused you to groan awake. You turn on the bed, trying to find the source of the sound that interrupted your sleep only to see the bedroom door open as Nanami slipped between spaces. Silent mutters help you recognize Nanami's voice, your mind finally catching up to what your senses were telling you. With a squint of your eyes, you look at Nanami with your lips curling downwards. His voice sounded tired, his steps were dragging across the floor, and he simply seemed overworked to no surprise. Overtime simply wasn't anyone's choice of spending the night.
"Kento?" You called out in a groan, still feeling a bit drowsy from your interrupted sleep.
Your tired voice makes him sigh, giving him another reason to feel upset after a long shift. Not at you though, he didn't want to wake you up and he tried really hard to let you rest. With a heavy sigh, his shoulder slouched slightly as he turned to look at you, making his way to sit on the edge of the bed right in front of where you were laying down.
"Sorry, sweetie. Didn't want to wake you up." Nanami whispers, a tinge of jealousy in his voice. Seeing how cozy you looked on the bed made him want to be in your place and be able to rest as easily as you, he needed to lay down next to you and sleep. But he couldn't just yet. "I'm home..." He adds, a hand coming up his face to remove his goggles and holding him in a fist.
"Don't worry about that," You assured him, feeling the bed shift as he sat on the edge of it.
With a yawn, you sit up to try and wake yourself up now that he is back. Despite still being zoned out from sleep, it didn't take much to notice just how exhausted he was. It was a sad sight to your eyes, even sadder knowing that this wasn't new at all.
You wrap your arms around Nanami and pull him down to the bed right on top of you, feeling how he slightly jumped at this. Though he was surprised at the action, he felt himself relax when his head met your chest, realizing a groan out of how nice your body felt after such a long day.
"Welcome home, honey." You whispered, your hand rubbing circles on his back.
"S'tired, soo tired." He mumbled against you, using his hand to rub his eyes as if that would get rid of his fatigue.
However, it was hard considering how he felt like he might drift off at any moment. He couldn't fall asleep. Even if he was struggling to stay awake, he didn't want to sleep just yet when he was still in his work clothes.
It was awful how much this happened and every time you would react the same. How could you keep your lips from frowning when Nanami looked and sounded this tired? When his body practically flopped against yours so easily? Nanami was a hardworking person and you admired that. What you did not admire was how much he pulled over time despite hating it with his entire being, constantly doing it over and over again. But this time it looked like work was harsh on him. Sure, he had no injuries or anything like that. Regardless, it was later than the usual time he came back from overtime and he looked much weary than usual.
You sighed, wishing you could do more than just comfort him. For the time being, all you could do was offer soft caresses over his back. "I know, honey," you whispered.
His head peaks out of your chest, meeting your soft frown at him. Your concerned eyes, your hand on his back, your quiet whispers...you were worried for him, that much was obvious with how gentle you were rather than telling him off for coming home late yet again.
"Sorry. I had to work overtime to-" A yawn cuts him off, his hand muffling his lips while his mind tries to coax him into falling asleep by focusing on how he could rest just like this. Yet, he didn't want to seem rude by simply greeting you and falling asleep on you. You deserved more than just a tired man-
"Why are you apologizing?" You asked softly, cutting his line of thought before you even knew what he was thinking.
In your mind, you saw no reason for him to apologize. Work was work, he was providing just as much (definitely more) than you were and it was normal. What wasn't was how frequently his work would cut not only into their time together but also into his time to rest and relax. You could never hold something like this against him knowing that it wasn't his choice to stay longer at work. Stress, fatigue, soreness in his eyes alone, dark and sunken from how much this has happened as of late.
No. He had no reason to apologize.
But Nanami didn't see it that way. You deserved more than this...not eating alone or going to sleep alone. He wanted and needed to give you some time with him, he didn't want to be this exhausted, barely functioning person to you. Even if you didn't understand why he was apologizing, he still needed to apologize.
"I'm sorry for-"
Your hand took his hand, interrupting him as you wrapped your hand around his and sat up on the bed. With a sigh, you take his goggles from his hand and place them on the nightstand.
"Stop it. You have nothing to apologize for, got it?" You said gently, wanting to be as soft-spoken as you could to not disturb him, let alone let him think that you were angry at him. Why would you get angry over this? It wasn't his fault and you knew that tonight would be different had he had a say in whether he was going to pull overtime tonight.
Helping him sit up again, your hands slip underneath his blazer on his shoulders, rubbing down his arms to help him take it off and setting it on the other side of the bed. As the fabric left his arms, Nanami rested his head against your shoulder with a small groan, placing a hand on your arm to stop you. Sure, it felt nice to have you touch him like this, but he didn't feel like he deserved it. He left you alone for the evening and came home late. How could he let you do more for him than he deserved? His eyes might barely be open and he might be very, very tired, but he couldn't make you feel obligated to help him.
"Darling," he mumbled, sounding unconvincing of pushing your help away, "you don't need to. I..." He sighs, feeling that slight burn in his eyes with a blink, "...I don't want you to see me like this."
He felt very worn-out, slower than usual as if gravity weighed twice as much tonight. Even so, he didn't want you to think you had to help him. He didn't like this side of him where you couldn't lean on him, it made him feel like a burden to you when he had already interrupted your sleep.
But he was met with your head leaning against his, trying to comfort him further as you saw him frown.
If there was something everyone agreed about Nanami it's that he is a selfless person. Someone always wanting to help others, protect them, put them before himself. It was actually one of the many sides that made you fall for him. So it was easy to understand why he was so self-conscious at that moment. It was a juxtaposition of the man he usually is: capable, sufficient, and reliable. Qualities that his fatigue was preventing him from being, but that didn't mean he had to be ashamed of it.
"I wanna help you though."
"You're already doing more than enough by welcoming me home. You should be telling me off for coming so late, not comforting me like this." He explained, his eyelids heavy from the way your warm cheeks touched his temple.
You shook your head, hands coming to his neck and tracing over his tie for her fingers to quickly undo it.
"I've told you already, you have nothing to feel bad for and I have nothing to be angry about." You pulled on his tie, wrapping it around your hand until it was rolled up and then placing it close to his blazer on the bed. "You're tired and overworked. I can't let you do things on your own when I can help you, especially when I want to help my love."
Nanami lifts his head out of your shoulder, trying to straighten up in his seat as you stripped him of the many layers that weighed him down. As much as he tried to make it seem otherwise, you were rightâhe was tired and overworked, far more than what he could handle. With you so set on helping him, the least he could do was stop his nagging and let you help. It was a bit embarrassing that work has rendered him this weak, not from some kind of injuries but simply because of how body felt ready to shut down at any moment.
Here he wasâa grown man of his age acting like a helpless child. He would've protested again had it not been for how devoted towards helping him, towards him. You might be doing what any caring spouse would do, but to him it felt like giving him a small break he didn't deserve.
His lips still find it in them to curl in the slightest as he says tiredly, "thank you, love."
"Happy to help," you answered.
And there it was, that beautiful smile that melted away your frown once he gave in to your aid.
It was silent for a few moments in the room except from the click-click sound after you unclasped his suspenders from his trousers, setting them on the side. There was little to no light, only the nightstand lamp and whatever else managed to slip in from the window, with him tired and you undressing him as your hands slid to his shirt.
Careful to not startle him, your fingers undo his buttons and reveal more and more of his skin with each. Once they were all undone, you slipped your hands underneath his shirt, feeling a few bumps in the way that made you pinch your brows together confused. It wasn't until you started to slide the shirt off his arms that the bumps made senseâthey were actually dents that ran front to back on his torso. Though they didn't seem serious, it makes your lips pout.
"I didn't know you had these."
Nanami's eyes look away from you and down to his own chest where your eyes focused on. In all honesty, he rarely acknowledged theseâthey were just marks left by his suspenders, a small price to pay from his daily attire. Sure, they were tight enough, restrictive enough to leave a mark on his body, but he didn't see any reason to mention them.
"It's nothing, love. They don't hurt at all."
Despite his assurance, your eyes seemed glued to his body. They were just a result of constantly wearing suspenders to a pretty physical job, no pain would come from them. Yet, seeing these marks meant more than just that. It was about the amount of time for these marks to set in the first place, making you realize just how long and much his workday was. Hours that, if they left this kind of mark in his body, were enough to lead to this exhaustion you could see in him.
That's when your fingers begin to think on their own. Your hand comes back up to his shoulder, but rather than resting your palm over it, your fingers graze over the marks and delicately follow down the path on his chest.
As your mind lets your hands do as you wish, Nanami could feel how worried you were from your touch alone. It was gentle but it had that hint of caution, as if too much pressure would make it uncomfortable for him. It made him feel vulnerable. He could see your mind running with all these thoughts from his marks alone. You knew he hated overtime, you knew he was stubborn to work despite his better judgment, and you both knew he needed to rest.
These marks reminded him how much he worked on a day alone.
These marks showed you how hard he worked alone for the two of you.
Underneath your fingertips, Nanami allowed himself to savor your touch further by closing his eyes for a second, unable to prevent the sigh that escapes his lips that makes you snap from your trance and look up at him. Though you knew it was best to hurry up and help him get ready for bed, something within her sparked at his marks. Your free hand decides to follow the otherâs steps and comes up to the other side of Nanamiâs body, roaming gently down the marks his suspenders have left behind. Soft, delicate, and gentle touches, but most importantly, loving touches.
Nanami stays still, letting you graze all over his body as he swallows down his self-conscious thoughts. It tickled a little to have your hands go so slow and so lightly over his skin, making his muscles tense underneath them. Despite that, he didnât want your hands to stop, so he doesn't make any effort to as his eyes follow how your hands move down his body and earn a ghost of a moan from him. He couldnât help himself when his exhaustion made it hard to think much, but you were just being so patient and caring and loving andâŠand so many other things that made him thank whatever deity that allowed him to be with you, that allowed him to have you as his everything.
Your hands come to a halt at his moan, your heart picking up a pace. At first, you worried the touch was actually hurting or unsettling to him when his body tensed, interpreting his moan as a groan. But when you looked up and saw how his eyes were glued on you and your hands moving across his body as if he wanted to take it all in rather than push you away, you let your hands rest on him and slide back up to his shoulders. You got a little carried away and you didnât want to tire him any more.
âYou do so much for usâŠfor me.â You start with a whisper, âI donât know what I did to deserve you, Kento.â
And see, hearing you say that makes absolute nonsense to him. It catches him off guard.
Your eyes meet, him shaking off his exhaustion for a second to open his a bit more, to actually be able to look at you. Despite how your hands and eyes roam up and down his body, Nanami feels no lust or desire under your touch. It was careful, sweet, just as he has come to expect from you whenever you caught him in this state.
This was just his spouseâs stare, you were his spouse. It wasnât a matter of whether or not you deserved it (you did, thatâs simply out of the question). He wanted to do all this, whatever he could for you. He would sacrifice so much just so you wouldnât have to worry or work hard. As he stares back at you, eyes looking up and down at his beautiful darling before him, he smiled softly. Though your words made no sense to him, they were a reminder of how thankful he was that you worried, that you were thankful for him like he was for you. A reminder of how much he loved you and hoped that, though he didnât say it out loud enough, you would still know that without a doubt in between the linesâŠ
âYou deserved it.â He answers back.
You chuckled. Of course he would think that and smile like this was nothing. Yet, there was something about his smile. You hated how tired it looked, how tired he looked. But when he smiled right now, softly telling her one thing to mean anotherâŠYou shook your head, shifting your hands on his bare shoulders to rub circles over his skin and soothe whatever tension you could feel there.
âYouâre the one working to the point of exhaustion while I fall asleep before you come home. You do much more for me than I do for you.â
âYou do a lot for me,â Nanami started, his brows pinching slightly when you kept discrediting yourself, âyou work around the house, keep the place niceâŠyouâre taking care of me even right now after I woke you up. You do plenty for me. This is not up for debate.â He chuckles, not even letting you argue about how little you did for him because that wasnât the case.
Your gaze softness as your hands come up to his jaw before running your fingers down to his chin. Even through that tension and obvious lack of energy, he still found it in him to appreciate her, to be adamant about her contributions and have her see them. Silently, your eyes flash that gratitude of him to him, admiring each feature on his face.
It was a soft touch, the kind of touch that makes you wonder if it was skin to skin or a feather to skin. It was a quiet but loud way of letting him know how much you appreciate him back. The kind of love and fondness that he needed after another shift.
âIâll always see it that way, you know?â Nanami adds, âItâs for us, so we can be comfortable. But most of all, so I can spoil you like you deserve it.â
You smile at him, unable to keep it in yourself to kiss him so you do. You lean in to press a quick and soft peck on his lips, taking a step further to remind him of how much he meant to you. You lean back, careful to not over do your kiss when he is this tired. But rest assured, that a small kiss such as that one was enough for Nanami to feel the weight of it, making him feel loved.
âLetâs get you off of these, yeah?â You whispered, your hands sliding off the marks from his suspenders, though you made a mental note to show them some extra love when he was much more in the mood.
You kissed his cheek and readjusted how you were sitting on the bed, going back to the reality that it was quite late, he was exhausted, and you both could use the rest. Shaking off those thoughts, you were set back on your original mission to help him get ready for bed. Your hands go down to his belt, carefully undoing it and pulling it off the loops of his trousers.
But it proved to be much harder to shake off those thoughts from earlier when his body was on display like this, especially as you helped him slide off said trousers after putting his belt aside with the rest of his garments. It wasnât just the suspendersâ marks, but also his muscles coupled with the feeling of his skin and hair against her hands that made Nanami shake his head with a chuckle as he called out your name.
âYouâre doing it again, love.â He wasnât oblivious to the effect he was having on you, how he was getting you going, as he softly mumbled your name softly.
âDoing what?â You asked with a smirk and a raised eyebrow, trying to play innocent. After all, it was merely a split second you were staring, right?
âStaring at me.â Nanami smiled wider, leaning forward now that this reaction from you gave him a small boost of energy, all just to tease you. âAre you admiring your husband, dear?â
You knew he was just teasing, especially when he was pulling such a pet name by the end of it and leaned forward towards you. You werenât blind either, apparently you werenât the only one enjoying a show with your spouse as the star of it, not when his eyes followed your hand and slowly drifted to other parts of you.
âIf I was, Iâm sure I wasnât the only one, am I?â You teased right back, looking at him with that smirk still on your face without moving an inch away from him and in fact, deciding to double it down by resting a hand on his thighs.
âA man canât love the person he married anymore?â Nanami chuckled, silently taking everything in. Your body, your face, your voiceâŠnothing from you was not appealing, you were truly perfect in his eyes.
His answer makes you laugh. You took a small breath, hand sliding off his thigh and across the bed until it finds his own hand, resting yours on top of his as your gaze returns to his. A smile comes to your lips, your heart starting to feel lighter and faster with every beat. Tease or not, Nanami was a natural at making you feel like this.
âA husband can definitely love their spouse.â You replied, your voice having a slight tease in it as well.
âEspecially when they are so beautiful.â Nanami adds, his smile growing soft as he leaned against your forehead and closed his eyes. He still felt tired, but he really liked this moment with you right now, feeling as if it was making up for the time heâs been away from you. So he wanted to stay in it a little longer.
âI see, so thatâs why you were starting too.â You whispered, though there is the hint of a giggle in your voice that Nanami is able to pick on, going as far as being able to hear your smile.
âYeah, that is why.â Nanami sighs, laying back on the bed and resting his head on your thighs, groaning softly once he feels his back meet the bed. He could feel how your hands immediately found his hair, gently combing his blond locks with your fingers.
It was comfortable, he didnât want to move. He wanted to fall asleep just like this. Not yet though. He still wanted to be with you, feel you like this. Even if the two of you werenât talking much and he was tired out of his mind, you being here and letting him be like this on your lap was enough to calm him further. You being here made him calm.
âIâve been so busy.â Nanami mumbles, taking a deep breath as his eyes closed for a second.
âItâs okay.â You assured him. âItâs work.â
But there was something in your voice that didnât match your words. Nanami knew what it wasâhow much you wanted him to cut back on overtime for his sake. But your words felt as if you were trying to let him know that you wouldnât hold it against him how his work cuts into his time with you, that he didnât need to feel that kind of guilt from you. He knew he needed to set a firmer boundary with work so he could put you first like he wanted to, rather than making you worry like this.
Just imagining you falling asleep, waiting for him to come back only for him to come long after, was painful. He didnât want that for you anymore.
He shakes his head, his hand coming up to yours that was losing its fingers across his hair, stopping your movements. No matter how many times you assured him, how much you tried to be understanding, he didnât want this to drag on. Work was work, true. But it shouldnât be overtaking his life, be more important than you were to him. You came before that, and anything for that matter, it wasnât up to debate. Especially when you were so patient and caring to him despite how neglectful he can be.
âI shouldnâtâŠâ He sighed, taking some time to form over his words. He didnât want, let alone deserve, so many passes and he wanted to own up to all those times he had to come home late. âDonât worry so much about me, please,â itâs what he ends up saying.
His words are met with a soft squeeze of your hand after you turn your hand around to be holding his, your free hand coming down to rest around his chest. You could see what he meant with that.
Donât wait for me.
I can handle myself.
You donât have to forgive me so easily.
Truth be told, you knew other people would grow irritated at their husbands coming home late, scolding them for the time they finally arrive and leading to distrust. But being married to a jujutsu sorcerer like himâŠit was a different case. You trusted him with this job, knowing how much more fulfilling it was than working corporate; trusted him to be careful and learned the kind of things he had to deal with. It was a dangerous job, it was exhausting, and you wonder how he can even ask you to not worry. To not worry about Nanami was simply against your marriage vows. You couldnât do that.
âYouâre my husband. Iâm supposed to worry about you.â
âJust trust that Iâll be fine.â Nanami said softly, a small sigh leaving his lips as he looked up at you.
He could see that concern in your eyes. Though it is nice to have someone who worries about him, thereâs still that annoying part in him that makes him feel guilty for making you worry in the first place. Yet, he knew that he couldnât blame you. No matter how many times he insisted on you not waiting up for him or on tending his wounds, he knew you would still worry about him. In a way, you both just wanted to do more for the otherâyou felt like he did a lot for you and he felt like he didnât do enough for you.
âIâm tired, love,â he mumbles, rubbing his eyes with his free hand, âletâs not fightâŠnot tonight.â
âItâs not fighting,â you let go of his hand, letting it slip to his cheek. You knew better than to try and argue when he was this tired, let alone when you knew he had the best intentions even if he dismissed himself so often. âI do trust you, but I still need to care for the person I love so much..â
Nanami chuckled, looking up at you with a tired smile. As he took a deep breath, he could feel how lucky and thankful he was at this moment. Even if a part of him tried to weigh him down with this guilt over how things seemed to be in his mind, you somehow knew how to show him the reality of things. He wasnât neglectful like his mind was telling him, not when he was trying to peel his eyes open just to spend more time with you. You werenât forgiving because he was your husband, but because you trusted him enough with your heart. You werenât worried over him because he came late, you worried because you loved him.
Before he can even answer, you gently pull him off your lap and lay his head back down on the bed. You stand up, patting his shoulder.
âIâll get your pajamas.â You smile at him, the kind of smile that says donât worry about a thing, before you turn to his dresser.
Nanami thanks you, sitting up on the bed and stretching his arms and back. The room quiets down, neither of you saying a word as you come back with his night garments and placing them by his side to let him put them on. Not yet done, you take all of his work clothes and turn back to the dresser to put his clothes away while he changes. Some are set aside for the laundry basket, others are hung back up, and others tucked away in the drawers.
Once done with that task, you turn back to head to the bed, laying down underneath the sheets like you were long before he came back for work. He was a bit slow in putting his pajamas on to no oneâs surprise since he might as well fall asleep right then and there, but eventually he lays down next to you after turning off the lights, his body facing yours. You wrap an arm around him, pulling yourself closer, sighing when he does the same by rolling on his back and letting you rest your head on his chest to which you happily do.
âIâm surprised you lasted so long without dropping unconscious onto the bed.â You said softly, a tinge of a tease in your voice.
Nanami chuckles, a yawn following soon after as fatigue starts to get to him after god knows how many hours of working.
âSo am I. Iâve been like that for hours, honestly.â He pulls you a bit closer, his hand gently grazing up and down your arm. A touch that made your body melt into his body. âBut it was worth it. I got to spend more time with you, even if I only had half a brain to see you.â
You hummed, your head turning up to look at him before pressing a kiss on his shoulder. You decided to not say anything, wanting him to get that rest he not only needed but also deserved. That doesnât mean his words donât make your heart flutter, even as he says them in that hoarse voice from how tired he was, it made them feel much more softer that he pushed himself to let her know that.
You lift up the covers and let yourself get comfortable with him as your pillow and you in his arms, the two of you cuddling in the quiet and silent room. A few seconds pass, then minutes, and you were sure he had already fallen asleep as evident by his deep breath that made your head rise and fall with his chest, his heart serving as your personal lullaby. Knowing that you had done everything you could for him in this moment, you let yourself close your eyes and begin to return to your sleep from earlier.
Though before you could truly fall into slumber, you feel his head lean against yours, a soft kiss placed on the top of your head that makes your heart beat for him, feeling safe in his arms as he manages to finally answer back to you from earlier:
âI love you too, dear. Thank youâŠfor everything you do.â
Nanami wouldâve said more, he probably wanted to have it not been from how his words slurred as his body was finally claimed over by that sleep he pushed off for far too long. After all, now that he finally got his fill of you, he could now rest properly.

Letter #1
Seokmin,
You know, I've always been very proud of not being a very attached person. I've always been proud that I can put myself first and second, because I know I need to do it, because I know that no one else will do it for me. So, when I came here and dropped everything I had, I thought it would be a lot easier than it actually is.
When I turn around in bed at night, after days of trying to get used to the time zone and weeks to the weather and the people here â which are both bad and for completely different reasons, nothing is like in the movies â I always hope to find you there by my side and being able to snuggle up to you like I always did. I wake up in the morning and make enough coffee for two people and take two mugs out of the cupboard, and only then do I realize I'm alone here. I don't need two mugs and I made too much coffee. Sometimes, in the middle of the day, I find myself typing your number, which I have memorized despite the fact that no one remembers phone numbers, because phones exist for a reason.
You have no idea how much I miss you and what I would do to be able to hear your voice again. I would do anything, I swear I could. But I know I no longer have that right. I know that what I did is unforgivable and although I want your forgiveness, I hope you never forget what I did to you.
You were still good to me on the last day. You took me to the airport, you said goodbye to me, you hugged me tight like you know I like it and you did your best not to shed a tear in front of me.
Every now and then I catch myself thinking that I messed up. I could have done my master's where we graduated, I didn't need to move to the other side of the world and leave the life I knew behind. But at the same time, I accept it. Coming here was my dream, it was always what I dreamed of even when you were by my side as well. And maybe that's why I never told you about the application, about being approved. Maybe I waited until the end, until the very last second to tell you because I knew you were the only one capable of changing my mind.
When I was by your side, I started to dream of a different life, a life that had you at all times and in all aspects. But, as you may have already noticed, I chose my first dream.
I know I won't regret it. I can't afford to regret it. Youâll become who you always wanted to be and Iâll be there to give you a standing ovation. Not there, next to you, but from afar.
ynÂ
âThat was Sunday Morning, by Hong Joshua. Ah, whenever I hear this song I remember my college days. I've said this here a few times, and I think I sound like a broken record by this point, but Joshua and I went to the same college and he was always singing this song in the hallways. Any small gathering between friends he would pull out the guitar and sing. So I'm sorry, but you're going to have to listen to this song at least once a week for the next year. Or until he releases the next one.â
Seokmin looked at the monitor to his right as a pre-recorded commercial for the next show started. The comments were going up too quickly, which made reading them an almost impossible mission.
On the other side of the glass, Chan made a sign indicating that the commercial was over. Seokmin looked at his friend as he lowered one finger after another and finally pointed at him. Chan placed a sheet of paper, which was always used, against the glass, which said âlast, chatâ. Indicating that he still had one more question to answer.
âWe have time for one more questionâ Seokmin said, opening the internal chat he used with the other radio employees and read the question that Chan had sent âI ended a relationship of almost four years a few months ago, but I still can't understand what happened. I haven't even returned his things yet. How do I get in touch saying I want to return it?â
Seokmin swallowed. He knew that Chan hadn't done it on purpose, that he had no way of knowing everything that had happened between him and you, but he hated how much the question resonated in his head. It was a feeling he shared and for him it had been a little worse because you lived together during your last year of college. So when he entered the house and saw all the furniture, the decorations, your clothes still in the closet, it was like entering a time machine. In that 30 square meter space, for a few minutes, you still hadn't left.
He took a deep breath, away from the microphone so the sound wouldn't be picked, and leaned forward.
âIt's a difficult question, really. If it's been a few months and he still hasn't picked his things up, it's because he doesn't need them, so I don't think you should bother contacting him. Hmmmâ
He bit his lip and rested his elbows on the table, thinking if he should continue talking or if it would be better to stop there. Seokmin always thought it was better not to let personal feelings show on the radio, but he had moments when he couldn't follow his own rules.
âI can tell you from experience that sometimes silence is better. Because if you know the truth, it could hurt you even more. When I was in a similar situation, after a while I simply discarded the person's belongings. At first, it will be difficult, because youâll see that shirt you gave as a gift, that letter you wrote and remember what it meant, the moment you gave those things to him. But little by little you will achieve it. Don't feel obligated to just move on when you're not ready. People will always tell you that it's about time, that it's been so many weeks or months. Youâre the one who knows about your feelings.â
Chan knocked on the glass again, almost desperate because Seokmin's answer had been too long. It wasn't the first time he had gotten lost in what he was saying and maybe had been talking in circles. It always happened that he remembered you when he answered a question.
And in that specific question he was being a hypocrite because he knew that if he opened his closet, deep inside it, he would find at least two boxes full of your things hidden. He rarely went near those boxes, he liked to pretend they didn't exist and most days he managed to achieve that thought. But there were other daysâŠ
âSo we come to the end of another Cupid's Corner with Minnie. See you again next week. Cupidâs Corner with Minnie: Unveiling Loveâs Melody, One Relationship at a Time!â
Seokmin removed his headphones, stood up, and waved at the cameras he knew were pointed at him. He grabbed his phone and the bottle of water he always carried with him. The red light above the door finally went out and Seokmin left the studio.
Immediately, Chan appeared beside him. He had just gone blond, and it strangely suited him.
He knew the youngest was desperate, not that he was doing a good job of hiding it. The disheveled hair, pointing in all directions, also helped a lot.
âYouâre going to have a heart attack if you continue like thisâ Seokmin said laughing.
Chan was the newest employee, handpicked by Seokmin a few months before. Seokmin needed someone to help him organize the broadcasts after his previous assistant quit because she had gotten a job in the field she had studied. Seokmin even talked to her and offered a higher salary that would come out of his own pocket, but nothing seemed to help. Not that he blamed her, in her place he would have done the same thing. But in the position he was in, changes made him uncomfortable so he did what he could to make sure everything stayed the same.
Maybe it was trauma.
âItâs because they yell at me, not you.â
One of the reasons Seokmin chose Chan as his new assistant was his sincerity. In the middle of the interview he âI think there are things in your program that need to changeâ and started listing things that he thought were dated or ideas that had been used too much and therefore didn't have the same effect on listeners. The others had found him presumptuous as if he wanted to know more than those who worked at the radio. Seokmin disagreed and that's how Chan got the job.
âThey yell at you because youâre the new guy, no one yelled at Jiahâ
Chan made a sound in the back of his throat, like a scoff.
âThat's because everyone was afraid of herâ Seokmin rolled his eyes and reached for the folder Chan was carrying âOh, right. Tomorrow is your lecture for the communication classes, but they said it is possible that students from other courses will also be there, because itâllll be in the auditoriumâ
Seokmin nodded, reading the guidelines Chan had made. He needed to admit that he was organized and had absolute control over everything he did. He was sure that if he asked about Wonwoo's program, Chan would know how to answer as if he worked directly with him.
âYou know how it is, I have fansâ Chan pretended to vomit âIf you go tomorrow, weâll go out to dinner later, Iâll payâ
"Deal"
Seokmin always found it strange to be called to give lectures at the college where he studied. He wasn't a teacher and he didn't think he had done enough to be someone who could give advice to someone. In fact, Seokmin was sure he hadn't done anything big. His life, to put it very simply, was flat. At least, almost all of his life.
Seokmin has always been the type of guy who makes plans and follows through on those plans. When he was sixteen he got it into his head that he wanted to work in radio. It wasn't without reasons, of course. He joined the school radio and despite doing very little, because the school director had to know everything that would be done, even the nouns he would use in the sentence, he fell in love with the idea. That's why he decided he should study journalism in college, that way even if his radio career didn't work out, he would still have a profession.
But his dream was to work on a radio, to have his own program. So that's what he did.
He entered college as planned, sunk into student debt, and graduated exactly as he had planned. In his last semester, he got an internship at the biggest radio station in the country. He was on cloud nine. It was as if he had received the green light in life and everything was on the right track.
At least that's what he thought. At least that was what he had forced himself to believe. The internship became a permanent position and one day he just happened to be in the right place at the right time. That's why he never felt prepared to give anyone advice. Despite having decided on the career he wanted to pursue, he knew that he also needed to count on a little luck and help. The only words he could offer were âyou work hard, study, make contacts, and throw the rest into luckâs handsâ. It wasn't the kind of thing he wanted to hear when he was a student looking forward to the future, so he certainly wouldn't say it to anyone.
However, Chan convinced him that it would be a good idea to give the talk.
âYouâre going to tell me how you got here, thatâs all. An unknown face who quickly went on air to cover someone for one of the most beloved radio broadcasters in the country. I'm sure if you say that shit fell on your head, they'll like itâ Chan had said laughing.
Overall the lecture went very well. Better than expected. He answered the questions as honestly as possible and used his best smile to get rid of the more awkward questions.
Despite the good day, he knew he didn't want to repeat the dose anytime soon.
âThey want to know if you would be willing to do one of these a semesterâ Chan whispered because he knew the answer Seokmin would give, so it was better for the students not to hear.
âNoâ was all Seokmin said âBut Iâll still buy you dinnerâ
Chan punched the air in celebration, catching the eyes of those around him, but he seemed to care very little.
"I justâŠ"
What Seokmin was about to say, an announcement that he needed to go to the bathroom, died in his throat as he looked straight ahead.
Letter #2
Seokmin,
I thought I would be able to adapt faster here. It was very hard in the beginning with transport, getting around in general was very difficult. So I chose a weekend and went walking around the neighborhood where I live. I don't know how long I'll stay here, but I thought I should check it out. Besides, I can wake up in the middle of the night and decide that I want to eat something that I don't have at home, so it's good to know if there are any stores or markets that open in the middle of the night (in this neighborhood there aren't any, maybe that's why I wonât stay here).
I discovered that going out there, although productive, wasn't such a good idea. Nothing wrong happened, I didn't get hit on or someone was rude to me. Quite the contrary, most people pretended they weren't even seeing me. The problem was that everything made me think about you.
I walked by the store that sold a lot of random old things and decided to go in. You know I love filling the house with trinkets. I didn't find anything there that I liked, but I saw that they were selling camera films. For a moment I forgot everything that had happened and all I could think was, I think Seokmin is running out of film, I need to buy more because he will only realize when he doesn't have any left.
I bought it and brought it to the apartment. I opened the door and called your name. It was only later, when I noticed where I was, that it wasn't our apartment, that I realized what I had done.
Even without meaning to, even when I try not to, I find myself looking for you. Everywhere. I go to a restaurant and think about what you would like to eat, I see a dog on the street and I imagine you bending down to pet it. It's not on purpose, I just can't help it. I try, but it's in vain.
I wonder if it will pass. Will this feeling that I succeeded in my career but ruined my personal life disappear or will I feel like this forever â or at least for a good few years?
yn.
It was as if all the air had been ripped from your lungs and there was no way in the world to get you to breathe.
Somehow, some way, Seokmin was standing in front of you, in the middle of the college hallway.
For a moment it was as if you had been transported back in time, to when you were still 22 years old. In another moment you would have simply run up to him and thrown yourself into his arms as if you hadn't spent the whole night clinging to him, as if you hadn't seen each other before classes, as if you hadn't shared the smallest space in the world on the subway for 20 minutes. And your body seemed to remember all of this, like some kind of muscle memory, because you felt like you were being projected forward. Towards him.
You thought Seokmin would talk to you, you were sure he would. But you saw the way his gaze changed, the way it went from complete surprise to a hard look, completely different from anything you had ever seen from him.
In your memory, Seokmin was always brilliant and was always willing to welcome everyone with open arms, even when he felt more shy. You didnât understand, that look he gave you was completely different from what you imagined could happen.
When you made the decision to return, you knew that there was a possibility of meeting Seokmin, no matter how small it was. You didn't know if he was still friends with the same people, if he still kept in touch with them. You certainly hadn't kept in touch with anyone - except for the two times you talked to Joshua. The possibility existed, but being realistic you knew it was as big as winning the lottery.
Of all the places you thought you could find Seokmin, college was the last one and maybe that was even why you accepted the job. When you were taking the last tests, the ones that would say whether you would graduate at the end of the semester or not, Seokmin was categorical in saying that he would never set foot inside college again. So you thought it was a place he would never go, but there he was. And in your first week, when you needed everything to go well. Not to show that you were ready and that you could do the job, but to reassure yourself that you had made the right choice in accepting the job.
You didn't have time to decide whether to talk to him or not. Seokmin made the decision for both of you. He continued walking as if you weren't there, talking to the boy next to him, laughing. The only indication that he knew who you were was silent once and one that only you could distinguish.
He turned around and left as if nothing had happened.
Was it possible that only you had felt that way? That just your heart had decided it didn't know how to beat, as if a storm was raging inside your body?
You didn't have time to analyze what had just happened. You just forced yourself to take a deep breath and also keep walking as if those brief seconds weren't enough to make your entire world turn completely upside down.
Seokmin dragged his feet into the room, tripping over the rug at the foot of the bed. A curse came out of his mouth, followed by a burp. When he invited Chan to dinner he had no intention of ending the night drunk, being carried home like someone who had just had his first drink.
It had been years since he had gotten that bad and it was comical that the previous occasion was also connected to you.
The memory of leaving you at the airport, on a flight in the middle of the night, was still vivid in Seokmin's mind. Worse than that memory, was the one of you telling him that you had gotten a place in a master's degree on the other side of the world, 18 hours before leaving the country.
âI need to tell you somethingâ you said as he pulled his coat over his head and patted his pockets, making sure he had grabbed his keys, wallet, and phone. He needed to leave as quickly as possible, he was already late.
Seokmin had plans to ask you to marry him. He had rented a house where you could spend the weekend, where it would be possible to see the stars. He had prepared himself, but he needed to leave right that second so he would have enough time to go to the house, get everything ready and come back to get you. The owner of the house would help him, since Seokmin decided that he wouldn't tell any of his friends because they might just ruin the surprise.
âI'm already lateâ he said, quickly looking at his watch. "Did something happen?"
He asked, noticing your already somewhat desperate look. He knew that whatever had happened couldn't be good.
To be honest, he had noticed that something was wrong a few weeks before, and for a while, he decided it would be better not to get into it too much. He knew you well enough to know that you would offer the information when you felt ready to do so. But thinking back on everything, he wished he had asked before, he wished he hadn't given you space, he wished he had forced you to talk to him sooner.
âI passed my masterâs degree abroadâ
Seokminâs first reaction was to be happy for you. He knew how much you wanted that, that it was your dream. So he did what any boyfriend would do, he hugged you and congratulated you, told you that you had tried so hard and that they would be idiots not to accept you. The feeling was true and his smile was genuine. He was happy for you.
Knowing what he knew, every now and then Seokmin wondered if he would have done anything differently if he knew what the next words would be out of your mouth. He could have made a fuss, he could have begged you to stay, he could have offered to go with you. But at the time he didn't do any of that.
âIâm leaving today, I need to be at the airport at 11 pmâ
Seokmin's ears rang deafeningly. It was as if he had been punched and needed to brace himself against something. The sofa was the closest piece of furniture.
He thought he heard it wrong, he wished he was dreaming, but all he had to do was look at you. It was true. It was as if a puzzle was being completed in Seokmin's mind. The way you had suddenly become distant, how every time he entered the room you hurried to change or close whatever you were looking at on the computer. He didn't even know you signed up. He imagined that you must have done some kind of test, some interview and he didn't even know anything about it.
He had no idea.
Had he been a bad boyfriend, someone who was so focused on making the long-awaited proposal that he had ignored everything else? Or had you hidden it so well that he hadn't noticed?
"What? Youâre leaving today?"
It was like the world was spinning too fast and he was trying to keep up with what was happening. It was like being on a roller coaster that kept on falling. He remembered well how the little box with the ring he had carefully chosen weighed in his pocket.
âI didnât even know you had applied for a positionâ he whispered, almost just to himself âYou didnât tell meâ
And it was at that exact moment, when he looked at you, that Seokmin realized that your relationship was over. You avoided looking at him, your hands were buried deep in the pockets of your coat, which was his. He saw your eyes fill with tears, you swallow hard, and remain silent.
It was unlike you, to stay quiet when you had too many things going through your head. He desperately wanted you to talk to him, to tell him what had been going through your head. He just wanted to understand. Did you believe he would somehow stop you from going? If there was one thing he knew about you, it was the fact that you always put your education first. It wasn't a secret and you didn't want it to be. He just didn't expect things to happen that way.
Seokmin sat in front of the closet, on the floor, and with difficulty opened the doors. Deep in the back, behind several shoe boxes, were two old boxes that he hadn't moved in years. Part of him wished the things inside the boxes were ruined, that they had mold and anything else that could ruin its content. But he had been careful, kept everything in order, taken all necessary precautions, and cleaned the closet periodically.
He ignored the first box and pulled the smaller one towards him, placing it on his bent legs. Seokmin wasn't one to revisit those memories, he liked to keep them as far away from him as possible, but on nights like those, it was impossible.
Seokmin knew what he would find and was sure how he would feel, but he still took the lid off the box, but he didn't dare take out any of the items inside it.
He knew he had reached his lowest point when he was holding on to memories he had of you and not focusing on what was actually happening in his life.
Letter #3
Seokmin,
I talked to Joshua today. Talk is a bit too strong of a word. We exchanged a few words on Instagram. He posted a photo and I liked it, he sent me a DM asking if I was ok and how things were going. I lied, of course. He said everything was fine and he was happy. He didn't talk about you and I didn't ask.
It was very hard to contain myself. I want to know how you are. The more selfish part of my brain wants you to be just as bad as I feel. You know that little demon that sits on our shoulder? He assures me you're even worse. And I hate to think that's the case, but at the same time, I'm sure you're not okay. I know you, we dated for four years, we lived together for almost two years
You were always the more emotional one of the two of us. You were never afraid to show your feelings, not for me or anyone else. You always loved so openly, without any fear. I admit that at first, it scared me a little.
I was an 18-year-old girl who came from a family that had no idea how to show affection, so I was always more reserved in that aspect. And there you were with your beautiful, bright smile, with open arms, affectionate with anyone who came along. I thought you were a crazy person who didn't have the slightest notion of the world. It took a while for me to realize that your world was brighter than mine in ways I couldn't understand.
You were always so untethered, free, showing yourself to anyone who had eyes. When I was closed and more reclusive, you were open and expansive. When I was very shy or reserved, you were more charming and brighter than usual. Not even my worst mood, which seemed endless at times, was a problem for you.
One day you just showed up and decided that you would stay by my side, no matter what. Believe me when I say, I tried to push you away. But with each passing day you were further under my skin.
A kiss at a random party turned into a date at every party, parties became meetings at the college library, which led to coffee dates. One day you decided at the end of each date you had to take me back to the dorms and you kissed me for a long time on the side of the building where no one could see â or at least I made myself believe no one did. Then that alone wasn't enough and you were always with your fingers intertwined with mine, or your arm around my waist. And kisses were no longer reserved for empty streets, of course not. You kissed me anywhere, anytime, no matter who was watching.
You were sneaky, Seokmin.
When I realized it, I was in love with you. Your arms were my refuge. You were my safe space. My home.
yn.
You hated that Seokminâs reaction, or lack thereof, had gotten to you so much. It was like being punched, and then one more, soon the punch became a beating and to finish with a flourish, it was as if a truck had run over you.
You had plans to go out at the weekend, though alone. Everything was so different, the places you knew no longer existed and friends from the past no longer spoke to you. You would have to rediscover the city without anyone's help. Despite your plans, you couldn't bring yourself to leave the house.
When you decided to return, you knew there would be no way to escape Seokmin. He had become successful not only in his career as a broadcaster but also as a celebrity of sorts. You never imagined you would see his face in magazines or on billboards selling fried chicken. You didn't expect that when you turned on the TV you would see his face in different programs.
In fact, you knew all of that was happening, but somehow you managed to convince yourself that you wouldn't have to see any of it. You managed to make yourself believe that you would not be haunted by his images and voice.
When you were away, you always listened to his programs, more than once each one, but it was almost like a relationship between fan and celebrity. You could separate very well what was him and what was you. But being there, in the same country, in the same city, it was much more difficult to make that separation.
Because once you were back, Seokmin was no longer just the radio host with a show about relationships. Far from it. Seokmin was your college sweetheart, the guy whose heart you broke but who, even after seven years, was still in love with.
That was the reality. you were still in love with him. There was no relationship in the world, no man in the world, that would have made you forget about Seokmin. Sometimes it worked, sometimes you managed to forget about him for a few months and that feeling of loss, of emptiness, that had settled deep inside your heart became smaller and smaller. And then it would come back full on as if it had never left.
Maybe that was your curse, your punishment for leaving behind someone you could have spent the rest of your life with. And somehow you knew you would have been happy. Or at least a different kind of happiness.
After spending the weekend holed up inside your apartment, after convincing yourself that you needed to prepare for teaching classes and unpacking the move, she decided that on Tuesday night she would explore the city.
Exploring wasn't the right word. You had discovered that one of your favorite restaurants still existed, it had just changed location. And, despite being on the other side of the city and being completely aware that you would have to pay a fortune for a taxi or risk taking the subway alone almost at closing time, you decided to go anyway.
You needed to feel like one thing hadn't changed, or at least still be recognizable.
You heard your name being called a few minutes after sitting down. You raised your head, recognizing the voice, but couldn't tell who it belonged to. Directly in front of you was a woman, with short hair, in her fifties.
âItâs really you!â
You stood up and a second later you were being hugged. Maybe you had gone there for that reason, knowing that there would be someone there who would recognize you. Or at least you hoped there was. And when you were welcomed with open arms by her owner, Niah, you wanted to cry for the first time in a long time.
âHiâ was all you could offer, your voice weak.
You quickly turned your face away, trying to be discreet as you wiped away your tears. The last thing you wanted was to cry in front of someone else. Tears were reserved for dark moments in the silence of your apartment, they weren't meant to be seen by people you didn't even know in a crowded restaurant.
âLook how beautiful you look. You haven't been around for so long. Seokmin told us that you had gone abroad to study, but I thought you would come back sooner.â
You just managed to smile, even though it was embarrassing. It was strange to hear his name coming out of someone else's mouth so easily. For years, his name was just an echo in your own mind, almost as if it were a fantasy of yours.
There were days when you managed to convince yourself of this, that Seokmin was nothing more than a dream.
âAre you just visiting or are you back to stay?â
âI'm stayingâ you said after a second, when you managed to find your voice again âI got a job here, I have nowhere to runâ
Niah laughed and hugged you once again, tighter this time.
"Great, that makes me happy. We always miss youâ Niah smiled and ran her fingers down your cheeks, brushing away some tears that were stubborn to fall âWhat do you want to eat? Today it's on the house. Consider it a welcome gift.â
You took a deep breath, swallowing the lump in your throat and the remaining tears.
"What do you recommend?"
The amazing thing about meeting Niah again was that she still acted exactly the same way. She didn't see you as someone who had simply packed a suitcase of clothes and left the country overnight. To Niah you were still that same person from 7 years ago who ate whatever she put in front of. You and Seokmin were always guinea pigs for all the new recipes.
The food was still wonderful, if anything it had just gotten better.
You had a fork halfway to your mouth when you heard the door open, the sound of the bell indicating the entry of a new customer. You almost instinctively turned to look. You choked on your own saliva when your eyes met Seokmin's.
It was as if you were back in the hallway that day. Your heart simply stopped, and the world fell into suspension. For a moment, it was as if you had been transported to the past. You were almost certain that if you looked at the table you would see books open next to the cutlery; you knew that if you looked at Seokmin for another second or two his face would break into the most beautiful smile, he would wave and call your name.
But your illusion shattered into small pieces as his neutral expression contorted into a frown. With the same foot he entered he turned to leave.
âSeokmin!â you called him, getting up from your chair.
Part of you thought he was going to continue out the door, but he stopped. Half of his body was outside the restaurant, the other inside.
âHurry up and close that door!â Niah said leaving the kitchen âYouâre letting out all the heatâ
Even with Niah's voice calling him, Seokmin remained standing at the door. You sat back down, but without taking your eyes off him. He didn't know what he expected of him, but he felt an indescribable relief when Niah pulled him by the sleeve of his coat and forced him to sit in front of you.
âThe restaurant is packed, so you will have to share a tableâ she said as she turned her back.
Seokmin shook his head, clearly against sitting there, staying in the restaurant, but he still took off his coat and hung it on the chair before leaning back and crossing his arms over his chest.
It was clear he was working out, his shoulders had gotten broader and his arms bigger since you last saw each other. You almost laughed at the pose, remembering all the times you had seen him in a similar situation. But this wasn't the time to laugh when everything else was screaming that he was uncomfortable with the situation, that he didn't want to be there.
It didn't take a genius to know that Seokmin wanted nothing to do with you. His reaction to seeing you in the hallway the week before and the way he was looking at you in that moment were enough answers.
You felt like the walls were closing in around you and there wasn't enough air in the room.
What were you thinking when you called his name? What were you thinking when you silently watched Niah pull him inside? Why were you still sitting there?
A waiter who worked with Niah passed by your table and you called him discreetly, not wanting to attract the attention of the restaurant owner.
âCan you wrap everything to go, please?â you turned to Seokmin âYou can have the table. I was already leavingâ
It was a lie, but he didn't need to know that.
Seokmin laughed lowly, scornfully, his sideways smile making the hair on your arms stand on end. In general, Seokmin has always been the type of guy who didnât lose his cool easily, who would always rather let things go than have any kind of confrontation. But when he really got stressed out or nervous, it took a while for him to calm down again.
You had seen that storm in his eyes very few times in the years you spent together. The last one was when he went to the airport to say goodbye to you. That day the storm was just confusion and pain, you knew you had done that to him. But he sat there in the restaurant, in front of you, in silence while the people around him chatted animatedly, completely oblivious to what was happening between the two of you.
"What it was?" you rolled your eyes.
âAh, nothingâ he said, waving his hand in a dismissive gesture âItâs just like you to do thatâ
You narrowed your eyes at the same time you felt your cheeks get hot.
"Do what?"
"Runaway"
Letter #4
Seokmin,Â
It took me almost a year to convince myself that it was okay for me to look at social media. I convinced myself that every woman does this, that every now and then we look at our ex-boyfriend's Instagram, just to find out if his new girlfriend is ugly. I've told you this several times, but every female experience is universal.
I wish you were one of those low profile people, who post a picture every 6 months and it's a cut mango on a pretty plate. I wish you hadn't posted so many pictures. But more than anything, I wish I hadn't spent hours and hours looking at the photos. I wish I hadn't been analyzing every photo of you, I wish I hadn't thought âthat's a new moleâ and wondered which others had appeared since the last time we saw each other.
I had memorized every mole of yours. On your face, on your arms, on your back. On the worst days, when I missed you in a way that almost made me give up everything and go home, I kept remembering each one of them. I tried to remember the sound of your laugh, your voice, how you stroked my hair until I fell asleep when it wasn't a good day.
I keep wondering if one day this feeling will just go away.
It's been a year since I left. I went out with other guys, and I almost dated one of them, but you're always there in the back of my mind, almost comically because even against my will I can't help but compare them to you. I can't help but think that only you know how I like my coffee, how only you know that if I'm in my worst mood, there's no joke in the world that can make me laugh.
I know it's not fair to them. I gave you the chance to get to know me, I allowed you to get closer. I wanted you to come closer to me. Now I wonder if you're doing this for someone other than me.
I like to imagine that you also compare other women to me, that even now that you're dating I stay there, in the back of your mind, making fun of you.
Unfortunately, she's not ugly, but your smile was brighter when I was next to you.
yn.
To say that Seokmin had spent the rest of the week in an envious mood was an understatement. He was stressed and everyone around him soon noticed the change. He really tried not to let his personal life get in the way of his work. It was something he never struggled with. Work was work, what happened when the lights went out and he left the radio should never cross paths with each other. That week, however, it was impossible.
Meeting you at the restaurant caught him off guard. That day in the college hallway had been difficult, but he managed to just keep walking as if nothing had happened. He liked to pretend like he hadn't gone out with Chan right after and drank like there was no tomorrow, like he hadn't opened the boxes he had kept for years and cried while looking at the photos of the two of you together.
He had gone to the restaurant that day because he needed some form of comfort and didn't want to call any of his friends because he knew he would end up telling them everything that happened and would receive advice and words he would rather not hear. The restaurant was the best idea he had. Or maybe the worst possible one.
Maybe he had done it consciously, because he wanted to see you one more time, and wanted to make sure he hadn't imagined you. It wouldn't have been the first time.
In the first few months after you left, Seokmin got into the habit of visiting places he went with you, or places you liked to go alone. It was probably a form of torture, but he liked to imagine it was a way to forget and overcome the breakup. On several of those days, he believed he saw you. He realistically knew it wasn't you, he clearly remembered seeing you get on the plane and waited until it took off to leave the airport.
The worst thing that could have happened to him was you calling for him. Seokmin couldn't help but wonder if he had always reacted that way to you, if your presence was always so great that before he even saw you he knew you were nearby. That day, as soon as he opened the door, before he even saw you sitting there with your eyes wide open, he knew. He knew you were there.
The last thing he expected from you was you saying his name, as if asking him to sit with you, that Niah, knowing how the relationship had ended, would have made him sit in front of you.
Seokmin noticed your discomfort, the way your spine had become a little straighter, the way your eyes were hard and cautious at the same time. Your reaction made him angry. What right did you have to behave that way, as if you were hurt when all the decisions regarding a relationship both of you were in had been made by you?
You were the one who signed up for a master's degree abroad. It was you who never told him about your decision. It was you who kept everything secret, making him believe that the two of you were on the same page and that despite your different goals, you would be able to pursue them together.
Turns out he was wrong, those dreams were just his and didn't include him.
âAre you sure youâre okay?â Chan asked for the thousandth time.
For the first time in a long time, Seokmin was having a hard time hiding how he really felt. That polished, carefully carved mask had fallen. It was a completely atypical day and everyone was able to notice his sudden change in mood. Even Chan, who normally did a great job of ignoring all the problems around him and focusing solely on his work, seemed to be walking on eggshells around him.
âItâs really obvious, isnât it?â Seokmin asked in a low voice and Chan just nodded "And if I pretend it's because of the new segment, will anyone believe it?"
Again, Chan nodded. Since he had started the program, 3 years before, Seokmin would receive calls and speak directly to listeners. Although there were always interactions, those were always done through live chat and email when he received questions or stories from people who were not listening to the program when it was airing.
Seokmin wasn't nervous about the idea, he was actually excited. Chan knew this and knew that whatever the problem was, it was still the same as the day of the lecture. He didn't want to ask, and he didn't want to seem invasive, but he still wanted to make sure Seokmin was okay â or at least, well enough to do the program.
âI think everyone is already thinking thatâ was a lie and even Seokmin knew it, but he was grateful.
âYou may already know this, but today we will start a new segment. We'll call it the heart to heart helpline, at least until we find a better name at leastâ Seokmin's voice and laugh resonated through the taxi âWe'll take your calls and some of you will be able to talk to me and ask your questions live, instead of by chat. Each person will have a maximum of 2 minutes and we will answer 6 calls todayâ
You had left the house completely willing to avoid anything related to Seokmin. Realistically, you knew you couldn't do anything about the billboards and his face at bus stops, but you could very well avoid his radio show. And for a few weeks you had managed to do just that.
That day at the restaurant had almost been a cathartic moment. Somehow, it was as if something had clicked and fallen into place. The Seokmin you left behind no longer existed. It had been a naive thought to think so. You didn't expect that he would still be exactly the same person, of course not. Seven years had passed and Seokmin, like you, was approaching his thirties. Obviously, many things had changed, but you still expected to see traces of that 22-year-old boy you had known and loved.
You didn't spend more than five minutes with him at that table. And it was much more than enough. He had accused you of running away, of continuing to do this for years. Of course, that could be his view on everything, but it was never your intention. The only problem was that you hadn't been able to tell him those things. You had been so lost and so completely helpless in front of him that you had forgotten that you knew how to speak and form sentences.
You had spent years of your life writing letters to him, letters that he would never read, but that was beside the point. You wrote letters as a way to appease the emptiness you felt in your heart. You never, not for a second, thought you were running away. You never wanted to run away, but Seokmin seemed to believe you did.
In a sudden burst of anger, you took your phone out of your bag and dialed the number Seokmin spoke on the radio. You didn't expect your call to go through. In fact, you didn't even know what you expected.
âPlease wait a minute, we will connect your callâ a non-robotic voice said as you paid for the taxi.
Seokmin was still chatting animatedly with a listener who didn't have a real question, but who âjust wanted to say that I really liked your show and that Iâm a fan.â It was impossible not to roll your eyes. If she, and everyone else, knew how much of a complete asshole he could be just because he had the opportunity, they would never want to see his face again.
Or maybe they would team up against you in favor of the immaculate Seokmin. God knew how easily a man could turn public opinion in his favor with a beautiful smile. And God was also a witness that Seokmin's smile was simply wonderful, one that took your breath away, one that made you smile along because it was contagious.
âWelcome to the heart to heart helplineâ Seokminâs voice sounded in your ear âWhatâs your question?â
You didn't really think that your call would get through to Seokmin, you didn't think the signal would be good enough inside the elevator, but none of that seemed to be a problem.
âHello, can you hear me?â he asked.
You took a deep breath and closed your eyes. You knew you were going really crazy, but you decided to throw caution out the window and be the crazy person everyone used to believe you were.
âYes, Iâm hereâ you could have sworn, that even over the phone, you felt Seokmin tense up âItâs a question about an old relationship, we broke up years ago, if thatâs okayâ
You struggled with your keys, trying to unlock the door as quickly as possible. You needed to get to your computer or tablet, whichever was closer. It was almost a physical necessity to see Seokmin's reaction to your voice, your question.
You always knew how to tell if he was truly calm or if he was masking what he was feeling. You wanted to know if you still had any other sort of effect on him. Whatever it was, it was better than angry disdain.
âOld relationships should stay in the past, donât you think?â he finally said.
You nodded as you ran into your room. You knew you would find the tablet under your pillow â you were sure that if your mother saw it she would say that your brain would explode due to the radiation from the device. With a few taps, you opened the stream of Seokmin's program.
âI think so. But the problem is that we keep seeing each other. I donât think itâs something either of us want, but it seems inevitable.â
You turned the sound off, you just wanted to focus on his reactions. Seokmin swallowed hard, his eyebrows furrowed and his eyes fixed on the microphone in front of him. To anyone, it just seemed like he was concentrating on the call, on what the person on the other end of the line had to say, but you knew very well that it was to hide his reactions.
"Your question?"
âWell, he called me selfish and said I ran away when we broke up, but that's not exactly what happened. I wanted to talk to him, but I donât think he wants to listen to me.â
Seokmin took a deep breath and seemed to think about what to say next, his eyes no longer on the microphone, but on the ceiling.
âAnd why does he think that about you? You probably gave him reasons, don't you think? I donât think anyone would think that about someone without anything having happened.â
âI always dreamed of studying abroad, so when the opportunity came, I went. IâŠ"
âDid you tell him you were going?â Seokmin clenched his fists on the desk, his fingers gripped the pen in his hand tightly until his knuckles were white. âDid you give him a chance to say something or did you just walk away?â
You were speechless, eyes focused only on Seokmin. The way his hair perfectly framed his face, his sculpted thin nose. He was still exactly like he was seven years ago, just somehow different. He was the same, but he also wasn't.
You hadn't given him the chance to say anything, you had just walked away, but because you believed it was the best thing to do. You would have stayed if he had asked, I would have aborted all of your plans for him,
âLong distance relationships donât workâ you said finally, your voice lower âespecially when thereâs an ocean separating peopleâ
âI'm going to guess and say that you were together for a while because I don't think anyone would care that much about a quick relationshipâ his voice became more sober, completely in control of his emotions, the opposite of what you felt, like you were enclosed every second that passed âI agree with you, long-distance relationships donât work. Different cities are already complicated, I can't imagine what it would be like to be with someone who lives in another country. You didn't give many details, but I believe he had reasons to feel that way, just as you had your reasons for leaving without warning. I think the best thing for both of you is to let it fall into oblivion. It makes no sense for either of you to dwell on these feelings. Maybe your desire to talk exists because you think you've left things open with him, but he may think that what's in the past shouldn't be remembered. Maybe you're just a bad relationship he wants to forget.â
Letter #5
Seokmin
I found out by chance that you now have your own radio show. One day it was an empty slot in the schedule and the next it was your voice. To my joy and delight, it was one of those programs that also had video streaming. I say joy and delight in a very ironic way.
But I'm not lying when I say I'm happy for you. You always said it was your dream and in a way, here we are, achieving our dreams. It would have been better if we could have lived through this together, I think. Maybe if that were the case I wouldn't have this empty feeling inside my chest.
But I discovered a long time ago that I can't keep crying over spilled milk. I left and you moved on with your life. They were conscious choices, I knew what I was doing. I knew that making this choice would have hurt both of us, but I also knew that we could overcome it. It's just taking longer than expected. I honestly thought that by this point, so many years later, we would have been able to live as if the past were just that, the past.
But it's not like that for me or for you.
I may be completely crazy, but your show is about love advice and how to deal with heartbreak. Sometimes, when I hear you talk, I'm sure you've already dealt with all your feelings, after all, you've had other girlfriends. But there are other moments, when you answer a question or when you read one of the pre-written texts when I'm sure that what you said applies directly to what we both had.
I'm going crazy, aren't I?
It's been four years since I left. I already finished my master's degree and started my PhD, exactly as planned. I have a date tonight with a guy who seems genuinely nice, but here I am, writing yet another letter that will never be sent to the guy I was in love with.
What am I still doing?
yn
Seokmin had always believed that for a relationship to truly end there must be no trace of it anywhere. When he told his listeners that they should get rid of items, it was not a lie. He was just terrible at following his own advice. The old story of do as I say, not as I do.
Finally, he decided it was time to take his own advice. With a little pain and resentment added to the mix, of course. At this point, he wondered if he could already be considered a masochist or if he still had a few boxes to tick to get the title.
Getting your address had been easier than expected. All he had to do was ask Niah, who offered the information without any resistance.
âBeing thirty didn't make either of you any smarter,â she said as she leaned across the table and wrote the address on the napkin.
âAlmost thirtyâ he felt the need to correct her, but decided he would ignore the hidden message in her words.
Seokmin never stopped going to Niah's restaurant. It was there that he had cried his sorrows over the cheapest drinks possible, he didn't have the money to pay for the good ones, while Joshua tried to console him. He had never seen Niah so stressed and angry. She hadn't said anything, but you could clearly hear the sound of her cutting the vegetables more aggressively than necessary.
Little by little she became calmer about the situation and started talking about you with the same affection as before. Seokmin always thought she had somehow kept in touch with you, or at least found a way to get your number or a way to contact you. At first, he had been angry, but somehow he believed he didn't have that right. It was only after a year that Seokmin decided to ask and the answer he received was âif I still had contact with her, I would have already screamed at her about disappearing without telling anyoneâ.
Asking Niah for your address was the only option he had. He refused to go to college, where you worked. He didn't know what would happen, whether you would be friendly with each other or the conversation would end in a shouting match just because. Because after years of no contact and considering the way things ended, it was pretty obvious that resentment could resurface â at least Seokmin had resentment up to his neck and knew that not releasing them all at once required almost inhuman self-control.Â
He looked at the building one more time before getting out of the car. It was one of those without a doorman. Seokmin knew that if he rang and asked to be let in, the probability of being sent to hell was very high. So he pulled up his cap down and covered as much of his face as he could while he balanced the boxes on his arms.
He stood there like a madman for almost twenty minutes until someone finally left the building. Seokmin felt like he was committing a crime when he slipped through the door before it closed. Even though the feeling was strange he made himself believe it was the only option he had and he really didn't have any bad intentions. He just wanted to return your things and, hopefully, arrange that if you ever met again, youâd simply pretend you don't know each other, instead of talking nonsense to each other.
Seokmin took a deep breath once before knocking on the door. He heard footsteps and a second later the door opened.
When you imagined what your Wednesday night would be like, the only option that crossed your mind was to order a pizza and watch a movie â the random option of Netflix seemed like your best friend and the only possible option because you weren't even able to choose what to watch by yourself.
Not even in your wildest daydreams could you have imagined that Seokmin would show up at your door with two boxes in his hand.
You were partially tempted to close the door on his face, but you knew that doing so would only make the whole situation worse. If Seokmin, who clearly didn't have any good feelings about you, was standing there at your door it was because he had something to say. Or more precisely to hand it over to you, considering the boxes in his arms.
Silently you stepped aside so he had enough room to enter. You wanted to slap yourself for the complete war zone that your living room was in. You were still unpacking the moving boxes, not that you had taken much with you. It was too expensive to send things from one country to another, especially furniture. You had only focused on your clothes and books and a few things you wanted to keep, and that alone was more than you were willing to spend. In addition to the boxes, you had all the things you still had to buy, but you still didn't have the mind to do it.
You had so much going through your head that cleaning the apartment was just another task you wanted to avoid. But it was one that could be left for later. In the few minutes that Seokmin spent there, you wished you had tidied it up, that he hadn't seen how that room represented your life at that moment: a complete mess.
"What are you doing here?" you finally asked when you managed to get your vocal cords to work properly.
Seokmin didn't seem to care about the mess but paid attention to everything else around him.
He placed the boxes on the counter and took off his cap, pressing the brims with his fingertips looking for what to say next. He had rehearsed an almost poetic speech in the car, something about being adults and how your relationship had ended a long time ago, so neither of you should have any regrets left. But the moment you opened the door and looked at him it was as if all the words had simply evaporated from his mind, as if he had never learned to speak in the first place.
It had always been that way with you. Sometimes when he looked at you, even when you were still together, he got lost. He was like a man adrift who had finally found solid land. It was as if he heard a click and the world started to move once again.
One of his favorite things, when you were dating and living together, was being able to come home after an exhausting day and see you sitting on the sofa in the living room, your computer on your lap, while you studied, occasionally shouting profanities at the computer. On those days, Seokmin would simply push the computer away and lay his head on your lap.
âJust five minutesâ he used to say with his eyes closed.
Youâd laugh, fingers immediately running through his hair, as if it was the most natural movement in the world.
âWho do you want me to insult today? You know my vocabulary is very colorful.â
How many times had he slept in that position, without meaning to, and you had to drag him to bed because âit's comfortable for you, but my legs are numb and you have to take a shower, you won't sleep dirty next to me, sirâ.
It was impossible not to wonder where it all went wrong.
âI came to return your thingsâ he pointed at the boxes.
You suppressed the urge to bend down and rummage through the boxes. You wanted to know what he had kept, what he considered important enough to keep for so many years. You knew he no longer lived in the apartment you shared. When you were looking for apartments you saw that that one was up for rent. It was necessary to restrain yourself from choosing it. It wasn't a good apartment, at least not at the time â the photos on the website said the property had undergone renovations two years earlier and had no tenants since. It wasn't big, it barely fit one person, but it was what your extremely limited budget could afford at the time. Somehow you and Seokmin turned that small space into a home full of life. Of love.
In the places where you lived, you bought all kinds of trinkets to fill the space, furniture you didn't need and never used, hoping to imitate, for even a second, the feeling you had in that little 35 square meter apartment.
You never quite managed to do that.
âThank youâ you said sincerely âI thought all my things had gone in the trashâ
You laughed and Seokmin squeezed the back of his head and pointed at the boxes.
âI sold what I could, I didn't want to put it in storage because I really thought we would never see each other again. The money is in an envelopeâ
âWhy did you keep all this?â the words came out of your mouth before you could stop yourself âYou should have thrown it away or, since you sold it, you should have spent the moneyâ
Seokmin had asked himself that question several times before, sober or not, and he never had an answer. After a while, he simply stopped questioning and accepted it as something he had to do, to have some kind of sanity. It didnât. Knowing that those boxes were inside his wardrobe, having to go through them the two times he moved, only brought back memories that he would like to forget.
Ever since you had seen each other again for the first time, memories that Seokmin had struggled to bury came to the surface as if they had just happened. He started to dream about you, dreams that range from memories to things that never actually happened, he started to wonder if it would be okay to talk with someone. His brain always screamed NO, so he was stuck just dreaming.
âI donât have a good enough reason. It is what it is, I guess,â he said.
The last time Seokmin felt so embarrassed around you was right when you met and even then it only lasted a few minutes. The 18 year old Seokmin was much braver than the 29 year old man in front of him.
That boy, without any guilt or remorse, would have asked every question that could cross his mind. Youâd say âyour mind is beautiful, it even echoes sometimesâ. Seokmin wanted to still have some of that boy's strength. Maybe that was the only way to know what he wanted. He wouldn't ask and he knew you wouldn't offer the information to him without being pressured.
âI think in the end, we both got what we wanted.â
You realized you said the wrong thing when you looked at Seokminâs hands. A second before he was clutching his cap until his knuckles turned white, the next his long fingers were still. You didn't want to see the expression on his face. You knew what youâd find. You messed up, but couldnât take back what you said.
âYou got what you wantedâ Seokmin corrected you, his voice firm, his tone hard.
âYou always wanted to have a radio showâ
âNo, I wanted you. I could adapt to everything else if it meant I would have you.â
You shook your head. You knew it wasn't true. Hell, even Seokmin knew it wasnât true. The first time you talked, Seokmin mentioned how much he wanted to be a radio host and have his own show, of any kind. I don't have a preference, I know I can give anything my own colors. You felt envious of his certainty, of the way he knew he could do it.
âThe show has always been your dreamâ you tried again, despite knowing it was in vain to argue with him.
âMy dream was to have a life by your side. You never, not once, told me that you signed up to study abroad, you never even mentioned it. When it was time to go you just got on a plane and disappeared. You never even gave me the chance to follow you. I could have been a journalist anywhere in the worldâ
Seokmin hated the direction of that conversation, hated being so exposed in front of you after so many years. In the past, it wasn't a problem. Before he wanted to be exposed in front of you, he wanted to share everything he was, every aspect of himself with you. No more. The problem was that he couldn't just stop. A gate was opened and there was no way to close it.
âSo, what? Would we both be living based on our dreams? Because this is a dream, and you know it very well.â
You clung to the top rail of the chair, your head lolling forward in an almost futile attempt to stop him from seeing the tears forming in your eyes. You knew you couldn't hold them.
You weren't the type of person who cried often, you did what you could to avoid it, but when the tears came it was impossible to simply stop them from falling.
âYeah, maybe I was really dreaming, because I believed that you loved me in the same proportion, but itâs quite obvious that you didnâtâ
Seven years of pent-up frustration couldn't just disappear, he should have known. He should have imagined that going there would be a problem, that being in the same space as you without any kind of interference was a mistake. But he was still there and there was no way to escape. It was better to end everything quickly than to keep those feelings for another seven years in the hopes of one day being able to say something.
Seokmin watched as you went to one of the boxes in the corner of the room and opened it forcefully, tearing the cardboard, and causing some of the contents to slide across the floor. He felt his body freeze as a roll of film stopped at his feet.
âSo explain to me, why do I buy a roll of film every time I pass by a store?â you put both hands inside the box and took out several rolls of film, of different brands and models. âExplain to me, why have I followed your career all this time and never missed a damn show in the last 3 years? Why would I wake up in the middle of the night to watch the broadcast and then listen to the show again while going to work because I just wanted to hear your voice?â
You walked to another box, but you opened this one a little more carefully as if wanting to protect the contents.
âWhy did I spend 7 years writing letters that would never be read to a guy I never loved?â
You threw several envelopes at Seokminâs chest. Your face and body shook out of anger or another feeling he couldn't quite tell.
Seokmin bent down to pick up one of the envelopes from the floor. His name was written in your careful handwriting. He didn't need to look at all the other ones to know that they were also addressed to him. He didn't know how many letters were scattered on the floor, or if there were any left in the box. The only thing he was sure of was that he had no idea how to proceed.
âIf that doesnât say I loved you, if that doesnât say I still love you, I donât know what the fuck does.â
Seokmin saw the first tear run down your face and fell silent. He knew he should turn his back, he knew he should walk away, just like you did seven years before. Instead, he took four steps in your direction, his eyes never left your heaving chest and the tears that ran freely over your cheeks.Â
At that moment he knew that he only had two options: he could turn around and leave, he gave you back your things that alone made his plan a success; or he could kiss you like he had been wanting to since the moment he saw you again.
To hell with his plan.
Seokmin held your face in his hands and pulled you to him, crashing his lips on yours. It was an all too new feeling but also familiar, almost like coming to a remodeled home. It was him and it was you, if only it was just that simple.Â
You sighed into him, your arms wrapping around his slim waist while your hand balled a fist full of his shirt. There were so many moments where you wished you could be right in that spot, again in his arms. Dreams and daydreams, wishful thinking, whatever you could call it. Thoughts of Seokmin had always been a constant in your mind. It was impossible not to compare other people you went out with to him.Â
Your longest relationship had been one of almost a full year. Although the beginning had been good and easy, with you somehow managing to avoid any and all Seokmin related dreams and thoughts, it turned sour the second he crossed your mind.
âSeokmin, IâŠâ
He shook his head and pressed his forehead to yours, eyes so intense that it was difficult to keep looking at him.Â
âLetâs not overthink it, okay?â was all he said.Â
You held his face for a couple, searching for something in his features, anything at all, that could indicate that the moment wasnât for that. But all you saw in him was the same emotions you felt, the same need and desire.Â
You pulled Seokmin to you again, this time hungrier, your chest pressed to his. Your mind was loud telling you all the reasons why you shouldnât be doing that, why having him so close to you was truly the most dangerous situation you could possibly put yourself in. But all of those voices, all of those words and thoughts were silenced the moment he kissed you again.Â
His lips were hungry, demanding all of you. And it was so easy to just give in to him, to his hands roaming on your body, down your back until he reached your ass. He gave it a light squeeze and ran his hand back up again, this time under your shirt. You moaned softly at the contact of his skin on yours, as he kissed your neck, bitting on the exact same spot he found years before.Â
He smiled over your skin.Â
âAt least this hasnât changedâ
It was all too much but not nearly enough. Just having him that close to you was dizzying enough but him touching you and enjoying the fact that you were just as weak for him at twenty nine made you never want to let go of him again.
âWhereâs your room?â
You took Seokmin by the hand, guiding him through the narrow corridor.Â
Your room was barely a room to begin with. You had no furniture except for the mattress lying on the floor, your clothes were either on the suitcase or on the chair on the side.Â
âThis is unlike youâ Seokmin said, his chest pressed to your back while he nibbled on the skin of your neck.Â
âI⊠hm⊠Iâ you sturred a little when he bit into a particularly sensitive spot, making him chuckle âIâm waiting on deliveryâ
Seokmin turned you around in his arms while lightly pushing you down on the mattress. His eyes never left yours as he ran his hand under your shirt, moving the fabric up until your chest was exposed.Â
It had been so long since you had been with anyone, it was almost like a reflex to want to pull your shirt back down. Since him, it had been hard to just let yourself be exposed to someone like that. You had become awfully aware of your body and things you never cared for or paid attention to before suddenly became worries. You didn't like that insecure version of yourself but when Seokmin cupped your breast in his hand his touch was almost solemn.Â
It was probably the worst timing in the world when you felt tears burn on the back of your eyes. You pulled his face to yours again, trying to hide your tears from him once again.Â
Suddenly, his touch was tender when he pushed a few strands of hair away from your face, his fingers careful.Â
Seokmin moved down on your body. When you saw his fingers on the waistband of shorts you lifted your hips off of the mattress to help him move the fabric down quicker.Â
He kissed your hips and inner thigh. You moaned in anticipation, your hand taking a fist full of his soft hair. When his lips finally found your clit it was like fireworks erupted behind your closed eyelids.
Seokmin was impossibly hard in his pants, embarrassingly so like he was a teenager having his first time.Â
He never thought that he would have you in his arms again and yet there you were in front of him, no reservations. Just for him. And for a moment it was like his brain was in short circuit, the small electric waves running all over his body, down to his toes.Â
He licked a path from your cunt to your clit. He went down on you almost in desperation, his nose brushing on your clit every now and then.Â
"Seokmin..." his name was barely a whisper in your lips, but it was also a chant.Â
Your orgasm hits you quickly, leaving you short of air and with shaky legs. You were spiraling in the most enticing way possible. It didn't stop Seokmin though as he kept sucking you frantically.Â
You tugged on his hair, pulling him up and to you again.Â
I love you, the words almost fell out of your lips. It would have been so easy to just say them, to be open about your feelings just this once.Â
Deep down you knew that that moment would be a one time kind of thing. It was just the kind of moment people sometimes needed to just completely let go of everything. Or in this case, nothing. It was to let go of seven years of complete nothingness and silence.
You opened the button of his jeans and pushed it down, his boxers following along. You wrapped your hand around his cock, pumping him a couple of times. Realization suddenly came over you. You never expected Seokmin to show up to your place, much less that it would lead to that moment, and there wasn't anyone else in your life, so you weren't ready for it.Â
"I don't have a condom" you said breathlessly.
Seokmin looked lost for a second, his brain going to his wallet, questioning whether or not he had one in him.Â
"I can pull out," he said "if that's okay"
All you did was nod and Seokmin aligned himself with your hole. He pushed in slowly, savoring each moment when your pussy pulled him in until there was no space between the two of you.Â
Seokmin kissed you again to give himself time to adjust to you squeezing him. You held his face close to yours, in your eyes a mix of emotions he didn't want to understand. Not in that moment at least.
"I don't want anyone else," you said looking into his eyes, your thumb running over his bottom lip "No one else can make me feel the way you do"
To hell with care and self-preservation. You let go of those the moment you opened the door for him, the moment you let him into your home, the moment you didn't push him away when he kissed you.Â
Seokmin fucks you slowly, his pace torturous as you beg and beg for more. He intertwined his fingers with yours and held one of your hands above your head while the other one held your hips in place.Â
"Seokmin... harder"
And it's like a switch has gone off inside his brain. His once slow pace becomes shallow. The sound of your breaths and his skin slapping against yours were the only ones heard, echoing through the empty room.Â
Your orgasm sneaks up on you, catching you so off guard you scream because it's too much.Â
You pushed Seokmin away and watched in ecstasy as he wrapped his hand around his cock, his hand working fast as your name left his lips when his release fell on the sheet by your side.Â
Seokmin dropped his body over yours again, his forehead on your shoulder. You closed your eyes and ran your hand over his hair.Â
"I love you" you allowed yourself to say, even if it meant nothing to him.Â
Letter #6
Seokmin,
I never thought I'd say this, but I'm coming home. Or the closest thing I still have to a home. Needless to say, my mother is happy with the news. She's been tormenting me for years, asking me to come back, but since I set foot here I decided I wasn't going back.
I wanted to, but I wouldn't go back.
Every time I thought about going back, the first thing that came into my head was the last image I had of you. Your teary eyes wishing me a safe flight, saying I love you and hope you accomplish everything you want. I regretted it the moment I gave my things away and handed my passport into the hand of the airline girl. I should have come back, I should have given up, but I couldn't. That old story of putting myself first and second, you know how it goes. In this case, my entire top 10 was just different versions of me.
I think I actually felt scared because as time went by, little by little without me realizing it right away, you became a very big part of my life. A part that could change everything. I felt like I depended on you too much. It wasn't fair to you or me.
We were only 22, Seokmin. When we were so young, we thought that life was conquered and today I know that is not the case. Far from it. At 22 I had a degree and worked part-time at a cafe to pay the bills, just like you.
You might think I'm selfish, I'm sure you do based on the things you say on your show. I was selfish and on some level, I don't regret it. I did what I always planned to do, what I always wanted to do. And now I'm coming home.
Part of me wants to run and find you, explain why I made the decisions I did, why I never told you. But I know you won't want to listen to me. I wouldn't want to listen to me either. Why would I listen to someone who left just like that? It really wouldn't make sense.
But another part, this one a little more rational, says that I shouldn't throw salt into the wound after so many years have gone by. I have the scar here, hidden enough for no one to see, but prominent enough for me to remember what I did every single day.
I think that's what I'm going to do. I think that's what I have to do. It wouldn't be fair to just show up in front of you and say âhi, I'm backâ after seven years.
You have become a big âwhat ifâ for me. What if I had stayed? Would we have stayed together or would our relationship have ended years ago? What if I had told you what I was doing while I was doing it? Would you have asked me to stay? What if I had given the possibility of a long-distance relationship? Would we have worked out or would you start to resent me for leaving and end up hurting each other anyway?
The most absurd thing is that I still like you, I'm still in love with you. I've always heard that distance makes love end or something like that. I haven't seen you in seven years, I don't know what's going on in your life â you're really good at hiding everything being a celebrity now â so it doesn't make any sense that my feelings haven't changed even after all this time. This guy I see online might not be the Seokmin I fell in love with, just like I'm not the same person you remember.
Every time I hear your voice I still feel butterflies in my stomach. I sleep and dream about you. When I wake up I think about you and I wonder if you think about me too. It is not normal. It's not healthy. Life went on and I think it is our obligation to move forward together. We are not a museum to only feed on the past.
Let's continue as we are now, what do you think? We will once again be in the same country, in the same city, but I think it's best for both of us to pretend that nothing will change. It's a huge city, what are the chances of us meeting?
yn
Before you even opened your eyes, you already knew what you would find. Or who you wouldn't find. You knew the space next to you on the mattress would be empty. You had noticed the exact moment Seokmin had gotten up, but you forced yourself to believe that he had just gone to the bathroom. You had kept your eyes closed and had somehow gone back to sleep.
You had been naive to think that the night had changed something, that the way everything seemed like it would be fine was an indication that things had finally gotten back on track. If any, the train simply ended up derailing.
When Seokmin kissed you it was magical, no matter how cliché and teenage it may sound. It was as if the world had fallen into place again, as if you had finally returned home after being away for so long. You couldn't help but wonder if that was why you'd taken the job, in the foolish, unconscious hope that there might be a chance, however slight, of being with him again.
You forced yourself to sit up and pulled the sheet up to cover your naked body. The shirt and shorts you wore the night before were next to you on the floor, but you refused to wear those clothes, opting to rummage through the boxes in the corner of the room looking for clean ones.
You didn't want to go to the living room, didn't want to be mocked by the two boxes that Seokmin had left on the counter, but you couldn't help it. It was as if your feet had a life of their own. When you realized it, you were already sitting on the living room floor with the two boxes in front of you.
You momentarily decided to ignore the smaller black box and pulled the large one closer. The first thing you saw was the envelope Seokmin mentioned the night before. Money, especially the one in the envelope, wasn't something you were going to worry about. You didn't care about it, you didn't lie when you told him that he should have spent it. That money would remain untouched.
There were also a few books you read and made annotations on, two stuffed animals, and all the picture frames you had left behind.
One of the things you regretted the most was not taking with you when you left were photos of you and Seokmin. You had only taken one, which was folded inside your wallet. It was already so old and worn out that it had almost turned to dust, but you would never get it out. It was you and Seokmin at Niah's old restaurant, he was smiling at the camera while you looked at him. It was your favorite picture.
At the bottom of the box was the camera you had given Seokmin as a birthday present a few months before you left. You had saved whatever money you could for months to buy him the camera he wanted, one that he always talked about and whenever you passed by a store you stood outside looking at it, almost as if it would magically appear in his hands.
You understood his reasons for leaving the camera there â or, at least, the reasons you could imagineâbut you wished he had kept using it. Not because it was a gift from you, but because it was something he wanted. His smile was so big when you gave it to him, the tip of his nose slightly pointed down because of it.
Carefully you put everything back inside and put it aside.
The smaller box, for some reason, was scary. It was light and black, and you could hear its contents moving as you held it in your hands. You took one last deep breath and removed the lid.
Inside were photos you had never seen before. Photos of you alone, Seokmin wasn't in any of them. In none of them were you posing or smiling directly at the camera.
Most of them had been taken from a distance, without you noticing. In some you were inside the cafe where you worked, smiling at customers and serving tables, in others you were simply walking down the street, looking through window shops and pointing at something. Seokmin had taken countless photos of you without you even realizing it.
It was strange to see yourself through his eyes, even if it was a version of you that no longer existed. A much younger and more optimistic version. Did I smile that much? you couldn't help but ask. You never saw yourself as particularly optimistic or constantly smiling. You were happy, that's undeniable, but you didn't know that's how people saw you.
There were so many photos, from completely different moments, both from the beginning of your relationship with Seokmin, and from all the phases you went through together.
Behind the pictures were the post-its that you left around the apartment, reminding Seokmin of somewhere you had together or simply saying that you loved him. So many had a simple âI love youâ written on them, others said âhave a good day today!â.
You had no idea he had kept them. You always thought that once read, they were discarded, but there they were, intact as if you had just written them.
The very first one you had ever written, when you had just started dating, was also there. At the time, unlike Seokmin who never had a hard time expressing how he felt, it was almost impossible for you to be openly honest. So you wrote it on a post-it and stuck it inside one of his notebooks. He had shown up at the dorm a few hours after you left the library.
âSay it again, but this time looking at meâ
You frowned, pretending you didn't understand.
âYour nose is beautifulâ
You laughed when Seokmin wrapped his arms around you, squeezing a little, trapping your arms close to your body. His face was very close to yours.
âWhat you wrote in the noteâ he said softly, his cheek pressed against yours âSay it again, pleaseâ
The truth was that you had loved Seokmin, in a way you didn't believe was possible and maybe that was why you spent the last seven years writing letters to him.
Seokmin never left your mind, not truly. There was always a desire, even if veiled, to return home, to find out how he was, to just say âI know I messed up, Iâm sorryâ.
It was that desire that made your entire body go cold as you took one last item out of the box. A smaller box that fit in the palm of your hand. You knew what it was before you even opened it and opening it was the worst choice at that moment. Your heart, which was already broken, somehow managed to break even more, into a billion, shiny, new pieces.
Seokmin would have proposed if you hadn't left.
When the first sob echoed through the living room, you didn't try to hold it back, you just accepted the feeling of being absolutely lost and heartbroken.
The weather outside the building seemed to mimic the way you had felt in the last few weeks, torrential rain that had no end in sight. You watched the news hoping for an improvement, hoping that the rain would stop for at least a few hours, but it seemed like a distant dream.
All your students were already gone and there was nothing left for you to do. The handed in assignments were graded and the tests were ready to be applied the following week. You had never hated yourself so much for simply doing your job. You wanted to be, at least for that day, like other teachers who left corrections until the last possible second and left students desperate for their grades.
The hallway was in complete silence, a clear sign that everyone had left already. And you had already waited hours for the rain to stop, until the sky was completely dark, and if anything the rain had only gotten worse.
You sighed and picked up your bag from the chair. You wouldn't risk taking any books, papers, or documents home, the possibility of everything getting ruined was too big. Besides, you needed a rest, at that point it was well deserved.
Ever since you had opened the boxes Seokmin left behind, you had immersed yourself in work in every way possible. You had accepted all of the dean's requests and even offered to teach extra classes whenever there was a missing professor.
And even so, even though you had more work than you wanted, you still found time to look at all of his social media. You still listened to all his programs, even listened to the old ones before going to sleep.
It was almost like a form of elaborate torture done solely and exclusively with you in mind. And worst of all, it was self-inflicted. It was as if your brain liked it, begged for it.
The box with the engagement ring was next to your pseudo bed. It was the last thing you saw before going to sleep and the first thing you saw when you woke up. Instead of spending hours on your phone, you sat there, staring at the small box.
You hadn't dared to open it again. You had never felt so lost as you did that day, looking at that ring.
You wouldn't be a hypocrite to say that you had never imagined your life if you had married Seokmin, but before it was nothing more than a daydream. The ring made that dream an attainable reality. It had been in your hands and you just walked away.
A curse left your lips when you noticed that the umbrella you had used that morning was missing from the umbrella holder next to the door.
âGreat, thatâs exactly what I neededâ you muttered, slamming the door shut behind you.
You were tired, exhausted to tell the truth. All you wanted was to get home, take a shower, and watch some relationship reality show, to escape the tragedy that was your own love life.
You closed your eyes and sighed as you reached the entrance. The next bus stop or subway station was at least a 15 minute walk away. That was a problem that existed when you went to school there, everything was far away. One would think that they would do something to improve that, but one would be wrong.
You thought about taking shelter in the nearest coffee shop, but you knew it was almost closing time. You wouldn't be the person who forces employees to stay late, not when you had worked at that exact coffee shop years ago.
Even with your heavy coat covering most of your body, the rain was cold on your back and it was hard to see anything ahead, even if it was just a few steps away. Even the sound of cars was muffled by the rain.
âyn?â a car was on your left, and it was moving at the same speed as you. The face of whoever was behind the wheel was blurred by the rain, but you would have recognized that voice anywhere in the world.
âLet me give you a rideâ
You shook your head. The last thing you should do was get in the car with him. It was too dangerous, you were sure that if you looked at him for more than a second youâd start crying. Just by hearing his voice your eyes were burning and a lump was forming in your throat.
âItâs fine, the bus stop is right thereâ
âThere was an accident back there, the bus wonât be here anytime soonâ
You grumbled. Of course, there was an accident, of course, there wouldn't be a bus and with your luck, the subway would probably be closed too.
"If your car went through the accident, a taxi will tooâ
You quickened your pace, not because of the rain, but because you wanted to get away from him. You needed to get away from him.
âJesus, yn, just get in the car. Youâre going to get sickâ
You pretended you didn't hear what he said and kept walking, face down â trying to escape both the rain and him. The first tear fell from your eyes. For the first time in days, you were grateful for the rain, because you could pretend it was just water and not a visual representation of your broken heart on your cheeks.
Seokmin stopped the car right there, in the middle of the street. He didn't care if someone was standing behind him honking like crazy â something that was bound to happen.
When he left your apartment that day he felt like he was 22 again, but this time he was the one leaving.
Hearing that you loved him was everything he had wanted, but the timing was strangely right and wrong, both at the same time.
Both of you screamed, shouted, and said what you wanted to say â or at least part of what you wanted to say. A weight had been lifted from his shoulders, at the same time a new one was placed on it.
After you fell asleep in his arms, the only thing Seokmin could think about were the letters scattered across the living room floor. There were so many. He couldn't believe you had spent all those years writing letters to him.
He needed to read them all. He would have done it in the living room, but he didn't know what awaited him, so he collected them all from the floor and a few more that had been left in the box and left.
He read the first one in the car, he couldn't wait until he got home.Â
Seokmin cried right there, the same way he cried when you left. Inconsolable. His heart broke and healed in equal measure with every word of yours he read.
Seokmin always believed that you left like that, without a single word, because you didn't like him that much, because you didnât want to be with him anymore. Not that he thought the entire relationship had been a lie, but he thought that somehow the love had ended. It happened to everyone, the probability of it happening to him was also high.
The truth could not be different. There wasn't a letter in which you didn't say you loved him, not always in those words, but he knew you well enough to know that was what you said.
After reading all the letters, Seokmin called Joshua. He cried on the phone with his friend and then once again when he showed up at his place with bad beer and takeout food. âSince weâre going to talk about our college days, I think we should do the same thing we did back thenâ was all he said.
Seokmin was on his way to you when he saw you walking without an umbrella. He wanted to talk to you, to know if even after so long you still wanted to try with him one more time. It was better to try than to always wonder what could have been.
âI read your letters!â he shouted louder than the rain.
His words were enough to make you stop walking, but you still didn't turn to face him. It was too hard to breathe. Your chest rose and fell irregularly each time you tried to pull the air in.
You knew Seokmin had taken the letters. Part of you knew he would read them, but the last thing you expected was for him to want to talk about them.
âI knowâ you said when he approached âI saw they were gone, and you were the only person who came byâ
âDo you know why I accepted to host a love advice show? Besides it being something I've always wanted, of courseâ he didn't give you time to answer âBecause a part of me wanted you to listen, to know that I was okay, even if it was a lie. I thought that if I talked about it on a show that had used the nickname you gave me, youâd regret it. I thought that I should make you regret it because it was the only way I could still think about you without looking like a fool after so long. I thought you didnât care, that you had left because you didnât like me anymore, so making you regret your decision was the only option I hadâ
You shook your head. It wasn't true, not by a long shot.
âI'm sorryâ you said softly âI should have told you what I was doing, that I had applied for the and got in. I thought it was my only option. It was so stupid. I was so stupidâ
Seokmin laughed a little, fingers running under your eyes. A second later he pressed his lips over yours.
âI know, I read your lettersâ
Seokmin,
It's been a good few years since I wrote you a letter. After a while, I didn't think I needed it anymore because I started saying everything I wanted, everything I felt, looking at you. Of course, this new arrangement has its demerits, as the paper and pen don't look at me like a lost puppy. But paper and pen don't kiss me either, so it has its bonus.
I thought when I came home four years ago, I would never see you again. I thought you would just be the guy who has a radio show that I would listen to every now and then. I didn't expect to see you my first week back and again and, well, again.
As you probably know, I've never been a big fan of rainy days. I always preferred sunny days because those were the days I woke up ready to face the world. I felt better overall. But also because they reminded me of you. You know, when the sun appears after gray days? For me, you were always like that. Grand and brilliant.
But after that day, I started to like rainy days too because they started to be full of the two of us. Rain was no longer synonymous of an unproductive day, but rather of the memory of our fresh start.
You know this, we've talked about it a few times, but I spent a few months waiting for it to sink in. Sort of expecting that one day I would wake up and it would all be a dream. It was hard for both of us, I know. It was seven years of hurt and resentment and we had to navigate this uncertain sea without a map. Nobody teaches you how to do this, believe me, I looked. I found countless books on how to start dating, how to save a relationship, and how to get over a relationship. The problem is that none of them teach you how to rekindle a relationship after seven years apart, but during those seven years one of the parties wrote letters and the other had a program just to mourn the sorrows of the relationship.
I've read several, so you can trust what I say on this.
It really wasn't easy, but I think we came out better, stronger, in some way.
I love you and Iâll tell you that every day for the rest of our lives. Our forever begins today, in a little while. So stop crying, put ice on your eyes to help the swelling go down, and go to the aisle because I miss you already.
I love you.

âhappy birthday dear hyuckie, happy birthday to you!â
âhi baby, thank you.â donghyuckâs voice is quiet and slightly raspy. nothing you havenât heard multiple times before, but not what youâd expected when youâd called your boyfriend at exactly midnight in his current time zone.
âdid⊠did i wake you up?â you frown, and your voice must betray your disbelief if his cute little chuckles over the line are anything to go by.
âmaybe, i fell asleep like twenty minutes after i ate dinner.â
âwere the guys not with you?â you pout. youâd at least taken some comfort in the fact that heâs surrounded by the rest of the dreamies for the start of his birthday if you canât be there.
âtheyâre here.â he says. âour intention was to stay up.â
âand you all fell asleep? thatâs actually really fucking funny.â you canât help the giggles that escape you at the thought of all seven of them crowding in one hotel room to see donghyuckâs birthday in, only to not make it to midnight.
âyeah, i guess we were all pretty tired.â
âwait, does that mean i still got to be the first person to say it?!â you say excitedly. itâs not yet his birthday where you are, but youâd be damned if you were gonna let a silly thing like time zones come between you and making sure your boyfriend started off his day showered in love, albeit virtual.
âuh-huh.â he smiles, leaving out the fact that heâd been planning on answering your call before anyone else could wish him happy birthday anyway. youâd been so cutely adamant that distance wouldnât stop you from being the first. âi miss you so much.â you almost donât hear the whisper. if you didnât know him so well, youâd chalk the voice crack up to him only just waking up.
âi miss you too, baby. twenty-one hours.â you let yourselves sit with the bittersweet feeling for a moment. tears begin to form in your own eyes but you blink them away. âi cannot wait to give you your presents, i think iâve outdone myself this year!â
âall i need is you.â he elongates the vowels in âyouâ, trying to match your cheery tone.
âew, stop being so greasy! plus, you love presents and iâm still mad my master plan to have them sent to you was ruined.â
âmanagement did have a point about the shipping time issues, plus this way you can see me open them properly.â he reasons. âi canât wait to hug you again.â
âjust hug me?â you smirk.
âthis was supposed to be a cute, innocent birthday call, not phone sex!â he gasps dramatically, sending you both into another fit of giggles.
âokay, okay.â you relent. âi guess the whole point of birthday sex is to do it in person.â
âtease.â
âwe did not need to hear that.â another voice chimes in, clearly muffled and far away.
âwhy are you even on the phone so late?â mark questions, sounding closer than jaemin had. âoh shit dude, happy birthday!â
âis it already midnight?â jisungâs voice is muffled, and then you hear rustling and yells for the other boys to wake up.
âiâll let you go, have fun with the boys!â you smile.
âno!â hyuck immediately whines.
âitâs okay baby, have a good morning and let me know when youâre boarding and landing, yeah?â
âfine.â he sighs, and you can hear the pout in his voice. the mental image of him, bedhead and traces of sleep, has you mourning the fact that you canât squish his cheeks or kiss his forehead. yet, you remind yourself. âiâm gonna cuddle the shit out of you as soon as i get back.â
âiâm holding you to that.â you smile, ignoring the fake gagging sounds in the background.
âget some rest too, i know you have work in the morning.â
âiâll try.â you knew it would be difficult to settle your restless brain but he was right, you did have work, plus the stuff youâd planned for when he got home that you had managed to keep a surprise. âhappy birthday, hyuckie. i love you.â

Starting 24-Aug-2024, I will be providing live reading commentary on Dragon Age: Tevinter Nights on my Twitch channel. (My gaming streams will move to Mondays, same time.) The hope is to help raise funds for my girlfriendâs sister and her family in Gaza. The funds will go towards necessitiesâall of which is extremely expensive there right now.
Donations = motivation to do more! But even if you have no interest in listening, please consider sharing so others know about this fundraiser, and/or still donating yourself; anything helps.
(More Info on the GFM)
Q: âWill you be covering the whole book?â A: Depends on how much money is raised. If you donate, please let me know (contact methods listed below). Iâm hoping to raise at the bare minimum âŹ50 per story, but that can come from multiple sources, and hopefully will build up more than that!
Q: âCan I request a specific story?â A: If you donate at least âŹ50 yourself and send proof to me, I will cover a story of your choosing ahead of the regular order. Otherwise, I will be reading them in the order they appear in the book, starting with Three Trees to Midnight on the 24th.
Q: âHow many stories will be you doing per stream?â A: Just one; it will take between 2 and 2.5 hours I expect. Perhaps longer, if we get really into a deep discussion!
Q: âWill you be uploading the streams to YouTube after for later viewing?â A: Yes! I hope to reach as many people as possible, and I know I live in a very awkward time zone. So if you canât attend the livestream, you can view later on Twitch or on YouTube.
Q: âI want to contact you, how do I do that?â A: The best way to reach me would be to either send a direct message via Tumblr, OR send me an email: tepkunset @ yahoo.com.
My girlfriend has also offered to help with questions specifically about her family, so you should direct those questions to @justanothergaymess.

My birthday is in like 2 weekd (the 13th) so I just wanted to make a quick request before I forget :)
Can you write a poly!marauder x reader when itâs readers birthday and she doesnât have enough time to celebrate so they throw her a surprise party at like midnight?
Hi lovely! Hope I timed this right with the time zones and all, but if I did, happy birthday! Hope you're enjoying it despite your time constraints :)
poly!marauders x fem!reader ⥠718 words
When you get home from your shift, your hair is greasy, your feet are sore, and youâd normally be ready to collapse into bed but tonight youâre buzzing with excitement despite the late hour.Â
The thing is, youâre a birthday person. Itâd be easier if you werenât, because unlike some of your friends who get to celebrate on school breaks or take time off work, you were born smack in the middle of nearly the busiest time of the year. Itâs almost like it was prophetic; you were predestined to always be in a rush before youâd even left the womb.Â
Still, youâre excited for the little things you do get to do to celebrate. James is baking you a cake, and thought you donât have time for anything on the actual dayâtomorrowâyouâll probably go out for a small belated birthday dinner next weekend. Itâs not everything you could ever want and more, but itâs what you can do, and itâll still be fun.Â
The house is quieter than youâd expect as you shuck off your shoes. Normally at least Sirius would still be up, but you suppose it is pretty late. Your boyfriends were undoubtedly tired from their own days at work. You shrug off your coat, and suddenly every light in the house is turned on.Â
âSurprise!â The collective shout nearly knocks you over, but James appears behind you, laughing as he steadies you by the waist.Â
âWhoa, lovie. Did we get you?â he asks.Â
âIâwhat?â You shake your head, gawping at your friends, who have materialized all around your living room. âWhat are you all doing here?âÂ
âOh, donât play coy,â Sirius says, coming over to secure a party hat on your head. âWe all know you havenât forgotten your own birthday.âÂ
âButâIâitâs tomorrow,â you stammer helplessly, getting past your shock but unable to accept that this is really happening. Itâs too good to be true.Â
âNot anymore.â He rolls his eyes at you, but his touch is fond as he adjusts the strap of the hat under your chin, knuckle brushing your cheek. âItâs past midnight, babydoll.âÂ
âYouâre old now,â Marlene says, holding a plastic cup up as if toasting to the fact.Â
Sirius hums, peering closer at your face. âSheâs right. I think I see wrinkles.âÂ
Your laugh comes loud and sharp, and Jamesâ arms snake around your waist, drawing you back into him. âOi, leave the birthday girl alone,â he objects.
âWeâre all younger than you, Pads,â Remus reminds him, coming from over by the kitchen to bring you a drink. You take it with a smile, and he pecks you on your cheek. âHappy birthday, sweetheart.âÂ
âThanks.â You beam, feeling blood rush to your cheeks at all the attention. âThanks for doing this, you guys, this isâŠjust, beyond nice of you.âÂ
âItâs no problem.â James gives your middle a squeeze. âFigured if we couldnât do anything during the day, a midnight celebration was the way to go, you know?âÂ
âOh, donât take all the credit for yourself,â Sirius argues, pinching at Jamesâ side so he yelps and covers his body with yours. âAll he did was make the cake, Moony and I did everything else.â
âAnd by Moony and I, he means that he picked out what he wanted and I made it happen,â Remus says drily, though the look he gives you is soft as mush. âIâm glad you like it, though, lovely girl.âÂ
âI really do,â you say, cheeks hurting from the force of your smile. âThank you so much.âÂ
Remus smiles, and James rests his chin on your shoulder, fondness oozing from all three of your boyfriends.Â
âAlright,â Lily says, âif you guys wanted her to yourselves, you shouldnât have invited the rest of us.â
âHear hear!â Marlene hoists her cup up, liquid sloshing dangerously close to the rim. You think you see Remus wince for your couch. âShall we have cake and sing?âÂ
âAbsolutely!â James declares, hands sliding to your hips for one good squeeze before he releases you, heading into the kitchen. âWait until you all see my masterpiece. This is what I should have done for a living.âÂ
âYouâll want to prepare yourself, gorgeous,â Sirius whispers to you. âI saw it in the fridge earlier. Itâs a monstrosity.â
âBe nice,â Remus murmurs. âHe tried his best.â

something in my drafts that i actually got the energy and motivation to finish. it's not really my best work but i *did* try so!! also 600+ of yall?? (â (â (â ;â êżâ _â êżâ ;â )â )â )
Yandere Ocean Spirit who the local sailors and fishermen tell tales of. Some say he takes the form of a charming young man talking with the grandmothers, letting himself be entertained by their tales of when they were younger.
Some say she takes the form of a beautiful young lady walking down the shore as the sun sets down the horizon, colorful gold and orange painting the sky with awe - a vision of beauty and elegance.
Some say they take the form of an individual whose beauty goes beyond genders and labels, taking a dip in the ocean - glowing moonlight behind them. Locals who saw a glimpse of them would often murmur about their long cascading hair as dark as the ocean's waves in midnight; no one truly knows where the tips of their hair ends and the ocean begins.
Yandere Ocean Spirit who, despite his contentment with life at the seaside, finds himself curious with you - a new face, a visitor, in his home.
You were staying at the seaside for the summer, spending time with your relatives per your parents' decisions. You're not all too happy with being plucked out of your comfort zone, but you suppose you might as well make it work - a chance to destress before you'll have to come back and face the reality of life's hustle and bustle, like the unforgiving ocean waves crashing against the shore, hah.
The ocean waves are inviting today - not too huge and overwhelming, but neither too placid and calm. You spend a huge chunk of your afternoon watching the waves - something so routinely was so pleasing to you.
The beautiful stranger approaches you in one of your ocean-watching ventures, a sweet smile adorning her beautiful face - asking permission to accompany you. And who are you to deny her? Not when she looks at you looking like the most breathtaking woman you've ever met in your life and you are just a human being with a huge appreciation for beauty.
"I like the ocean," she says, after a moment of silence, eyes trained on the waves, "everything in life can change - things come and go, but you can always count the ocean to be there."
You chuckle. "Even the ocean can be unforgiving, you know. Especially during storms."
"Ah," she laughs, "that, I'll have to agree... we're all victims to the whims of the weather."
You smile in agreement, and the silence that follows is pleasant and welcome - like the ocean breeze gently blowing against your skin.
The next few days you busy yourself with familiarizing around town. While running an errand for your aunt, you come across a huddle of fishermen - gazes grim.
"Looks like it's about to rain," one of them says, "can't go fishing at this weather."
You hear another fisherman let out a grunt, just as you near their huddle.
"We can't always hope for a fair weather all the time. The ocean spirit can only do so much for us common folk."
An ocean spirit? You halt in your steps unconsciously, curiosity urging you to listen more. One of the men seems to notice, and lets out a hearty laugh.
You feel yourself flush in embarrassment at being caught listening.
"Curious, eh?" he says as the others turn to you as well, wearing matching amused smiles - at the very least, they didn't look like they were mocking you. "Never heard of an ocean spirit before?"
"Spirits aren't... exactly common in the city," you find yourself responding.
They nod in understanding. "Too urbanized," one of them says - a man sporting a huge scar underneath his left cheek, "they're more powerful and stronger when they're in their natural habitats."
It's your first time hearing of the existence of such spirits. "What does the spirit look like?"
They share amused glances, like you've just asked them of an inside joke you didn't know they had. "Well it depends on how the spirit wants to look like. But you've already met her, if that's what you're asking."
Their words echo in your mind until the next day as you watch the waves once more. It crashes against the sand and washes towards your feet - you watch it retreat.
A smell of the ocean breeze creeps up on you, and you feel a presence beside you.
"Mind if I join?"
His voice is deeper this time, different from her softer lilt - the one that reminds of you of early morning rays, the calm rippling of the ocean accompanied by the glittering sunlight. His voice feels like the warm ocean water soaking you to your thighs, gently swayed by the waves moving to and fro.
You turn to meet his gaze.
"You never told me you were an ocean spirit."
Unfazed, he smiles. "You never asked... plus, I didn't intend to hide it in the first place."
You entertain him with your company - his eyes gazing at you with keen interest as you share about your life in the city.
"âand what brings you to this peaceful little town?"
"Just... vacation," you shrugged, "I'm heading back to the city after a few weeks."
He frowns, but quickly covers it up with a serene smile. "That's a shame. Can't you stay a little bit longer?"
"I'm not meant for the seaside life," you respond; and it's true. You were not born with the ocean breeze to greet you in the morning, and the sound of birds singing the days away, nor the sound of waves lapping against the shore. You were born with the hustle and bustle, the sound of heavy traffic and hurrying men and women getting to one designation to another, and the smell of smoke permeating in the air.
It can be said, yes, that you can get used to a simplistic life at the beach but could you really? Not when your subconscious mind tells you that there's more to do at home, things to finish, projects to oversee, friends to keep up with, a life that you cannot afford to upend because your comfort has already rooted in the city, and it would be foolish to uproot it in an environment that it has to get used to after it has already matured.
"Oh."
He quietens after that. The waves are audibly more harsher as they crash against the shore, thrashing and lashing even beneath clear blue skies. The ocean spirit is not mad, but it rolls off of him in the waves.
And days turn to weeks â the waves only get harsher. Fishermen stand by the shore, scowling and frowning as the rough waters force them not to travel the nasty waves. What good is their livelihood if they do not live to return anyway?
The ocean spirit is nowhere to be seen, and there's no way to bargain or to ask what's wrong â like he has just disappeared down the depths.
The day of your departure comes, bags packed and a sense of anticipation to be back home thrums in your veins. As the car rumbles to life, thunder crackles in the air and lightning strikes â a flash flood comes surging towards the shore.
Cries of surprise and fear erupted from the villagers as the waves slammed against them, like claws tightening their hold on their prey. Was this the work of their ocean spirit? The gentle soul who would listen to the grandmothers' tales of their young love and misadventures like a child listen's to a fisherman's tale of braving the storms.
Or was the ocean spirit holding themselves back all along, now only deciding to let go of their restraints and let the humans feel the full blow of the ocean without their careful watch. Humans, who have since been uses to their less than concerning storms, unfit to respond to such a devastating occurrence â too panicked and fearful to flee away to higher ground.
You watch as the waves continue to drown more and more people, and a lone figure standing on an elevated rock formation. Has it been there all along?
Your feet moved before your mind can catch up to it, wading through the waters to reach the figure. They notice your presence and, serenely, smiles at you.
"Hello," they greet, like the storm all over them is not happening at all, "wanna watch the ocean with me?"
"You need to stop," you insist instead, ignoring their invitation. "The villagers are drowning."
They merely watch, and hum. "That's a shame, isn't it?" they murmur. How can they be so cruel? No â have they been this heartless all along? What of the person who the people sing praises of? "Perhaps they should start to learn to get used to it."
You hear the wail of a mother. You can only imagine what made her cry with such devastation.
"After you've given them protection?"
"Aren't we all victims to the whims of the weather?" They hum, "then perhaps, we're all also just victims to the whims of the ocean."
"And what would change the ocean's whim right now?"
As though waiting for that inevitable question to be asked, they smiled. "For you to stay."
Another harsh wave ravages the village, and they smiles at you with a calm smile â calm as the waves of the ocean should be â as more cries and sobs, pleas for help fills your ears.
"Well? Will you stay, or will you let everyone drown?"

Oh my god. So just imagine doing laundry. And you know when smaller articles of clothing sometimes get stuck in sleeves/pant legs? Imagine a tiny sock from Aaronâs daughter getting stuck in his clothes. He pulls it out after realizing on a case away from home and just like. Immediately tears up slightly because he misses his girls and Jack back at home. HHHHHHH⊠calls them as soon as he can, just wanting to hear their voices đđđđđđđđđđ CRIES
CRYING đđđđđđđ
it happens during a particularly hard case too :((((( where little kids are also sadly getting hurt :(
to say the day was a rough one is an understatement - the victims were a family that had both a boy and a girl, so it was alllll too easy for aaron to picture you, jack and baby girl hotchner :( as he walked around the crime scene, the poor children even had similar toys - toys aaron is always tripping over or stepping on at home; in the living room, the hallway, even your room when the kiddos climb into bed with you and aaron. so again, it's all too easy to visualize. cases involving kids are always hard on him, but with this added, aaron's just, not having a good day :(
and when aaron gets to his hotel room that night - he feels defeated, exhausted, and again he just can't get the image of the most important people in his life being the ones getting hurt out of his head :( and sadly he got too back late - he's in a different time zone, and he knows the kiddos are most likely already asleep, and if they are, so are you. he doesn't initially plan on calling home. instead, he sets an alarm to wake up early - 5 am for him (although he doesn't need to be back at the precinct until 8 :(), 8 am back home. just before yet another hard day starts again, he has to talk to you all :(
but when he opens his go-bag to grab some pjs, a little itty bitty socks falls to the ground đ„ș it was static-attached to his sweatpants - and his heart just breaks even more and tears are pinching at his eyes :(((((( the only though running through his head is how badly he just wants to be home :(
without another thought, he tosses his clothes back into his bag, immediately grabs his phone, and is calling you. at this point, he doesn't care if at least, he wakes you up (and you never ever mind, he's woken you up before and you always understand). but luckily!!!! when you answer, everyone at home is still awake đ„čđ
aaron immediately smiles through his tears when he hears jack and baby girl get all excited that daddy called!!!!!!! :D and he asks them what they're doing up so late đ€š (with a breath of relief) (it's approaching midnight back home) and they said that you let them stay up to watch a movie, since jackers has no school the next day because it snowed a ton!!!!! - hehe you then add that they were just about to get tucked in đđ„° but now that he's called, he can help <333
but whenever aaron adds to the conversation as you're running through the going-to-bed motions, you can hear the strain, and the choked up tears, in his voice. but you don't say anything about it - you just let him and the kiddos talk because you know he needs it. you quickly inferred that the case involves children and when that happens, you know he'll only find comfort or calm down with the reassurance that everything back home, is normal. just the way he likes it :( and once everyone is in bed, you'll talk to him about it - just the two of you.
aaron doesn't go into specifics, but he does tell you about baby girl's little sock and just how that, well, he misses you all :( you reassure him that they're safe, all of you are, and super huge hugs will be waiting for him when he does get home <333 the two of you even fall asleep together while still on the phone and honestly, aaron wouldn't have actually fallen asleep that night without it
