Rook drew out a longing sigh, gently easing into the quiet of the museum. The soft sound lingered, coiling around his fingers like thread from a spool. It, too, did not wish to part ways with the stunning beauty laid out bare before it.

A fair maiden was framed in shining platinum. Hair black as ebony, lips as red as the rose, and skin as white as snow... Truly, she was the fairest in all the land.

“That is the beauty of telling tales! They inspire those who hear of it, ensuring that the spirit of the story is never truly extinguished.” The huntsman’s eyes held a keep glint to them. “Tell me, Ortho-kun. What do you believe makes a princess?”

The boy blinked. A split second, and he had already input the term into an internal search engine, the formal definition loaded up to recite.

“Prin-cess, noun. The daughter of a monarch or wife to a prince. A woman having sovereign power.”

“An efficient, succinct answer!” Rook applauded, his cheer never faltering. “However, my desire is to know your interpretation. In Ortho-kun’s own words, what makes a princess?”

“My own…?” The words stretched, unsure, on his tongue. Ortho hesitated—seeking, processing, and analyzing. Rook’s heartbeat sounded where there was the space for the boy to think.

Then, finally, Ortho spoke.

“From what I’ve observed in movies and books, the princess is a pop culture icon. She’s usually presented as a role model for little girls. Someone who is beautiful, dainty, and composed, wearing a pretty dress and a glittering crown."

The huntsman threw his head back and laughed. "Broad it may be, but I am of the opinion that we all have it in us to live up to the title~”

He indicated the woman in the platinum frame. Ortho’s gaze obediently followed. "Even without a kingdom to call her own, she remained kind-hearted rather than turn to cruelty. That is why she was, and always will be, a noble soul. A princess who puts out good into the world.”

Upon straightening, the third year laid both hands over his heart. He lifted his head toward the painting of the fair maiden in the forest. A serene smile at his lips.

Pre-lockdown: I think itd be unique that if Sebastian was used to give humans gills then Phanny can be used to find immortality cuz who doesnt love when a corrupt corporate entity tries to find the cure for death, happens all the time lol. I believe because shes also able bodied (mostly) she would be given similar jobs as Sebastian so shes not depressed, rotting, or lashing out. Not sure if they'd work together but she's observant and being a psychologist, she def psychoanalyzing the hell outta everybody in the facility out of boredom. She seems happy but ofc its a coping mech to make the best out of the absolute horrors around her, still emotional unstable and freaks tf out frequently. Once Sebastian frees everybody, she's free to roam and sees what Sebastian is doing. She asks to assist him in his goal but she only plays a part once Seb handles BIDNESS on land during lockdown. Post lockdown she scavenges for data and whatever here and there but shes mostly left alone or out of most of his operation, yk,,,working with Mr Lopee and all. She really tries to get close with Sebastian (despite emphasizing hes a married man, YEAH SURE BUDDY YOU'RE LIKE 32, WHATEVER MAKES U FEEL BETTER💀) and being the drama fiend i am, i think having a "moment of weakness" would lead to their complex semi romantic possibly toxic dynamic.

Fight: And as i did my research its highly debatable if Sebastian is telling pAInter the truth about getting them both out. Phanny would believe this without question cuz if he can make a plan and has all these skills and resources, he should be able to take everyone (this also includes other peoples inserts and ocs who are experiments because it makes the setting more lively and interesting). I even thought of a cool ass line my homie thought was cold asf for argument dialogue between Phanny and Seb about taking everyone back up to the surface.

Just to summarize: Phanny mentions how noble Seb is after making progress with his escape plan, assuming that he'll take at least as many people as possible including Phanny. Sebastian at this point is already trying to push her away post weakness moment and he know damn well he's just doing this for himself and never accounted to leave w/ a whole damn facility of sentient experiments. He just wanna see his mom again and hes already working in private with Mr Lopee i mean this is a one man escape plan. This ofc shatters Phanny cuz from what hes saying, nobody and he mean NOBODY is getting out of here with him. Hes not a savior and hes not responsible for people he dont even know or fuck with like tf?? And Phannys like OKAY? Nobody's asking you to be JESUS but can you at least be Moses?? Ofc it ends in a big brawl, think Mark getting his shit rocked by his own dad (Omniman from invincible) and they just have this heartbreaking dialogue and they split ways.

Post fight + breakdown: After this, Phanny is basically losing it. I even have a vision for this if it was actually in game and she was an actual character with weight to the gameplay. Like crying and wailing in the vents and pipes, shit breaking, Phanny not being seen for a majority of the game until shes physically stopping u from going through doors and rushing the player. Not to kill them, she loves the expendables and protects them but if she really has to if it means Sebastian can get out/she gets to see another day then...

Plus i drew what that would look like in my last post where shes just standing in the dark in the corner blocking the door. Even if shes not blocking the door she's obviously going through something and can't be interacted with, she just follows the player with her eyes and breathes heavily. If its not that then shes crying by the the water and interacting with her gets the player a DEVIOUS side eye or no response.

Pre-breakdown + if she were actually in the game: I can't really explain why she would help the expendables WITHOUT knowing removing the crystal will indirectly end their lives, i actually havent evaluated that yet but shes friendly to expendables, takes free trade in exchange for shiny objects, and can be seen hanging out with or talking to Sebastian, or passing by in the water/halls. She's capable of killing the player entirely by accident due to her tentacles hanging from the ceiling which she chills in and dying to her makes her scream or apologize (before Sebastian says something snarky) since shes strictly against killing and never willing.

Announcing ur presence helps her know shes in the way. Typical interactive npc shenanigans. Maybe even saving expendables from certain attacks but these are rare interactions in the game. She's overall friendly and if she were real, she'd prolly be a fandom fave (ofc not on Sebastian's level, LETS BE HUMBLE YALL😭) because shes so polite and her tragedy comes near the end where the player isnt even aware of how she became hostile in just a few hours of the run. Her story would hardly happen in game and itd be one of those things a creator would have to mention outside of their game for fans to know abt yk?

Its typical for creators to just drop the craziest lore ever about a character but they're purposefully vague or literally like oh yeah time constraints so we scrapped it lol.

I constantly had cis men hitting on me for no valid reason, as I'm not the socially accepted aesthetic for "attractive" (probably because it was a small town so there wasn't much selection & I live in cities so I dressed/acted differently than most? Idk. I'm a transman, pre-t & pre-surgery, but present as femme for safety reasons, espec in small towns). I often didn't notice until coworkers told me after they had left or until the man, himself, told me straight up. It was common enough that we had a signal bc apparently I suck at picking up on people hitting on me. NO ONE working that night signaled for this one, despite several of my coworkers seeing this.

So needless to say, I did NOT see this coming.

There was a guy with two girls checking out their groceries at my register. It was late at night, close to closing. When it came to the guys portion of the groceries, he split things up to afford everything. (I feel that lol.) His card declined on the last part. He was maybe $25ish(?) short (idr exact amount). He asked to take off a few things & I was like "Wait, wait." & jumped around & slid my own card & paid for his stuff. At that time (about a decade ago) my finances were mostly stable. I was doing what I could for anyone who needed it. It wasn't abnormal for me to pay for people whose groceries got declined by under $50 if I had it that month. I was stuck at a grocery store all day & people quite literally need food. It's the *least* I could do while financially stable, yknow? He wasn't someone I singled out... just someone else I managed to have the privilege of helping.

But this guy looked like he was both a) about to cry & b) incredibly embarrassed. He barely whispered thank you to me before grabbing everything & RUNNING out the door. His two friends thanked me profusely & followed him out *normally*. Lol.

I didn't have anyone else to check out coz it was almost 10pm at that point, so I was just vibing at my register. Maybe 5 whole minutes later (yes, THAT LONG) one of the girls the guy was with comes back in & runs up to my register.

I didn't say anything coz I was confused. Why is everyone running? Why does everyone have so much energy? Jeeze. 💀

She said, quickly & excitedly, "Remember the guy you just saw that you paid for his groceries?"

Me: "👁👄👁... yeah?"

Her: "Well, he wanted to know if you wanted to go out with him. Like, on a date."

Me, confused, not knowing what to say, stalling: "Uhhhhhhm."

In my mind, I'm thinking: 'Why would he want that? Because I paid for his groceries? Does he think I'm one of those dommes that gives money to their subs? Oh no. I'm a sub, not a dom! Maybe he just thinks I'm nice? Oh god, he's gonna find out I'm NOT nice if we date... but I really only like femme presenting people. How tf do I say that in a small town where I don't want that to get out? I don't know what's happening here, but-"

Me, without hesitation: "Sorry, but ...I like women?"

Her: "👁👄👁... Was that a question?"

Again, with the running. Running out the door. To the car. They looked about the same age as me. Early 20s. Like... where are they getting this ENERGY??? 😭

He NEVER came into the location I worked at again while I was there for 3 years lmao. The two girls did. Ik he lived in the area. This was before the time of grocery delivery. So uh... I feel awful lol.

I also feel awful because I never really say no to anyone in that context or break up with anyone. I always force *them* to say no or break up with me so that I don't have to do it. 😅 I'd never in a million years lead anyone on coz that's completely unfair, but I really just need the other person to do it & I couldn't in that situation so it still sits in the back of my mind like, "oh my god what have I done" kind of catastrophic thoughts spiraling from there. Meanwhile, he probably doesn't even remember I exist. 💀

So rip to me, I guess.

Please tell me someone else has had some kind of interaction where a stranger/customer has asked you out or tried to get with you based on something you did (or did for them) on the clock or a work perk you showed them/they saw. 😭 Pls make me feel less alone in this lmao.

More Somewhat Angsty Diasomnia Thoughts? Ask and I shall deliver

Didn't expect this post to get a lot of attention fast so to my new followers, hello 👋. Didn't post a lot this week since it was pre-finals plus I'm busy writing for our school newspaper. BUT, I shall make up for it with more angst ✨

A quick realization that Sebek and Silver suffer from identity crisis but in completely different ways. Sebek is more on not knowing where he belongs to because of half fae half human heritage (and probably because of his environment, he degrades his human side, pretty much saying he hates himself). While Silver is more on focusing on not knowing who he is as a person, with his entire being molded to suit other people, he slowly loses himself.

Lilia may have the love a parent must have but his parenting skills are very questionable ( in a sense that he's fit to be a parent, at the same time he isn't). Like seriously you can't leave a 10 year old alone to fend for himself while you're away Lilia 😭. But then again this can also be reflected with how Lilia was raised as well, he was probably left alone to fend for himself as a child, and applies that same thing to Silver as well.

Have you guys ever thought about the possible envy/jealousy Malleus harbors for Silver and Sebek, seeing that they didn't grow up isolated due to status; we can also add the part about Malleus's parents being missing from the picture, which could possibly be the reason why Grandma Draconia chose to isolate Malleus, seeing that they are the only two left in the Draconia bloodline. I mean if we think about it, none of their childhoods were normal, but at least Sebek and Silver get to experience what it's like to be kids. As well as not being treated like an object and just as a regular person, people also fear Malleus which is why nobody approaches him but they approach his guards...

Sebek is literally holding diafam together like glue and I feel bad 💀. I mean he has his own set of issues, but he's also a wildcard on what will be his role for Chapter 7. Seeing that his main motif is the lightining of Maleficent, which could possibly symbolize his devotion for Malleus. BUT he could be the Shield of Virtue to Silver's Sword of Truth, which could symbolize them being each other's half (soulmate behavior) as well as a possible rebellion towards Malleus, seeing that these two weapons (well mainly the sword but the shield does have its uses) were used to slay Maleficent. But what could be the trigger for all that to happen 🤔?

Silver's devotion for his father and master will be put to the test in Chapter 7. Alright knowing that Chapter 7 is brewing something that's gonna wreck this found family to pieces, what if Silver is being forced to make a hard choice, a choice that involves his real origins? LIKE IF WE LOOK AT ENDLESS HALLOWEEN, WE KNOW SILVER LOVES HIS FAM SO MUCH, but what if it all changes due to a hidden truth which leads to betrayal?

Anyway it made me think of the post about Maki and Chappel Roan that I actually recited by memory out loud to my friend last night [gooning over wlw content together after watching Muriel's Wedding], And also that one post abt Monomi and Monokuma being Junko's satire of her own rivalry with Mukuro, and Junko not liking that her friends don't appreciate her fursona doing stand-up 💀💀 and like compare that to Instagram discourse and it's like "Komahina is stupid bc hinata isn't straight" like 💀

Anyway maybe it was the same on tumblr before [it probably definitely was] but now that I'm older I'm really appreciating mature convos/takes about danganronpa because good fanfiction/fanart/fan interpretations are truly adapting the story+characters in much better ways than the creators could ever imagine circa 2010 [pointy objects] [peaches and cream] [anything w/autistic nagito] [anything w/transmasc hajime]

number one rule of modern fandom experience (at the very least with media that has a propensity to draw Certain Crowds [looking especially hard at danganronpa and p5]) is CURATE YOUR OWN SPACE AND STRAY NO FARTHER ‼️‼️‼️ i personally escaped the early era dr fandom (pre v3 localization/the 2019 Danganronpa Renaissance) but time capsule posts tell me i dodged something of a bullet there ❤️ in that vein 2019/2020/covid era discourse was still crazy insane (<- was a part of it for sure LMFAO) but it had a much different Flavor than it did way back when. and the same is true of present-day: still a little kooky if you search hard enough (insta/tiktok/twitter/tumblr all have their own demons). but at least This go around i have largely avoided that by picking my people that i trust not to be Weird and just living in my own bubble wrt the dr fandom at large. and thats served me very well the past year+ since i got back into dr <3 and i have also seen MANY of those perspective-altering posts in that little curation circle that has deepened and made better my experience THE GOOD IS OUT THERE ‼️‼️‼️

like. nimbasa battle subway isn’t THAT hard it’s not like pre-hooktail pit of 100 trials it’s very DOABLE but it’s just like. not really meant to be done that early and you’ll be fighting 7 or 8 battles where the opponents have fully evolved pokemon before making it to the subway bosses. you could probably do it with like stoutland and darmanitan or something which evolve relatively early but you don’t get access to return early in the game (which is what makes stoutland so good in b2, at least in my experience) so i don’t even know 💀

A long time ago, I saw a post of yours which mentioned you didn't like Waid's take on Doom. To be completely honest... I really disagree with some points of Waid's takes and I believe a reread wouldn't change my perspective, especially when I look at his reasoning. Let's see a few things he said:

1. "This is hardly A Great Insight, but the reason Doom became king of a nation and wants to expand his sovereignty is because the most expedient way to fool yourself into believing you have power is to control everything you see and pretend that nothing else is important."

Hm, no. Waid is completely ignoring Victor's whole context of being born Rromani. He didn't become king to fool himself, he did it because Latveria was ruled by the man who persecuted his mother, father and his people for decades.

Fortunov was a facist ruler who took notes from H*tler himself for leadership purposes. Despite losing both his mother and father, Victor remained with the Zefiro, growing and providing to his people by selling con trinkets to nobles. That's what put him on Fortunov's radar yet again, resulting in a second persecution.

Like, yeah, he loves validation. He absolutely does, it does wonders to his ego. But we can't ignore the fact that HIS PEOPLE was persecuted and enslaved. He returned to set them free.

2. "I think 'Doom the Noble' would tear the head off a newborn baby and eat it like an apple while his mother watched if it would somehow prove he were smarter than Reed.

I'm sorry but what the fuck did I just read? 😭 This is UTTERLY racist, picturing two Rromani people brutalizing a baby for petty reasons over a white man, like 💀 There's literally a racist stereotype that Roma people kidnap and eat children, so again, WHAT THE FUCK

Not to mention the fact that he also pictures Cynthia as evil (or at least conniving). Simply put, it's bullshit. Cynthia has never been evil. First of all, she made a pact with Mephisto in order to save her people from Fortunov's persecution. Obviously, she was tricked and her soul, doomed. But the moment she believed Victor's "betrayal" towards Stephen was real, she refused to be part of it and chose to remain in hell. That was precisely what saved her soul. She was redeemed, her light so strong that blinded Mephisto.

WRONG.

Yes, Lee and Kirby's initial portrayal of Doom is the ol' cartoonish villain, similar to Magneto even. But it doesn't mean he didn't show signs of humanity and altruism, even within Lee's writing.

(Fantastic Four Annual #2 and Fantastic Four #17, only to mention a few examples from Lee. I have more from other stories whose editor was Lee himself. That is, he approved of those.)

I mean, yeah, I can see what Waid was going for. A very petty, amoral and one-layered Doom. But he contradicts himself by portraying him as a man without a heart, especially in the core material he claimed to be based on.

If anything, Victor is deeply flawed, which only adds MORE layers to him. Yes, he's driven by his obsession with Reed, but it boils down to a simplistic view of their complicated relationship. Victor is a lonely man. And having Reed around is the only way he finds purpose in his intellect. See, he says "equal of Reed Richards", not superior as it's often stated in future issues, which means he considers Reed his only worthy opponent.

That said... I'm sorry if it wasn't your intention, but reading his take on how he talks about Rroma people was the last nail in the coffin for me, honestly, especially when he uses a slur.

It's okay if people prefer their Doom to be full evil, really. But to ME, he's way more interesting when his layers are all considered, just like I prefer Magneto to have his background to justify his character's decisions. If not, they'd be just one-layered psychos like, say, Carnage. And again, it's fine if people enjoy this kind of characterization for Doom, but then I wouldn't have those tender moments between Val and Victor.

She doesn't quite have a signature look clothing wise since she likes to experiment with styles but she does love a good denim jacket. She's generally more recognizable via her hair (very curly and often thrown up into a bun pre-wasteland) and tattoos. Especially the latter in the wasteland since I don't think they'd be as common? At least outside of cities, maybe. Her laugh is a good calling card tho since she cackles really loud when she finds something really funny.

El can be... polarizing. An acquired taste might be a kinder way to put it but she can be difficult to get along with due to how stubborn and blunt she is. But I love her to pieces and that's what matters 😌. But most often people are drawn to her confidence and ambition along with her love of the arts.

🍼 BABY BOTTLE: How do they feel about babies and children? Would they ever have any?

Well, she does have one, August. But she's always had conflicted feelings about kids and having her own but has generally always leaned towards not wanting them. She's afraid of that level of commitment and of fucking up her kid/turning into her parents. Plus, she's always felt a bit awkward around kids since she doesn't really know how to interact with them. She loves August but she has a lot of inner conflict about it all. She really only kept him in the first place because Akira wanted a family, and then had a hard time bonding with him and then the Game Events happened, and now she has a synth version of him after killing the human she actually popped out her herself. But she does take good care of him :]

She lovesssss pasteles! She mainly had them for the winter holidays growing up since they can be time-consuming to make but she's still very fond of them even if she doesn't eat them too often anymore. She also loves the miso soup that Akira makes :]

He likes kids and he's good with him but he never really wanted any of his own until El told him that she was pregnant. Akira's voice is quite deep but soft in a way, it doesn't carry very well. He has a bit of a southern Maine accent (which is just similar to the general New England one) but it's not very thick. He pronounces his 'R's softer than most so 'car' kinda sounds like 'cah', cold weather is nippy, etc etc. It doesn't really stand out in Boston. He's a decent singer but doesn't really like to sing in front of people often.

The quick, TL;DR version: I'm curious about the characters' backstories before fic's canon/Hermitcraft canon.

The very long version: MCYT fandom is in this weird ambiguous area where you *technically* have access to a lot of info from the content creators' IRL lives and their past SMPs/Let's Plays/etc, but how much of that factors into any one fic's canon changes depending on the author. Each author has different levels of how much "canon" (SMPs, Let's Plays, etc) they've had time to watch, how familiar they are with IRL stuff, how comfortable they are incorporating IRL stuff into their fic, whether everyone is a basic player or whether you have players who are avians or vexes etc., or a variety of other things. Each fanfic author has their own version of canon, and none of them are really wrong, because canon itself is kind of fluid.

Originally, I started asking a bunch of little questions (Are Scott and Jimmy exes? Does Grian still have a biology degree, or something like it? Is Scar still afraid of snakes (and if so, does that fear of snakes also mean a fear of worms)? How close were Grian and Mumbo pre-Hermitcraft (because fanfic and IRL episodes seem to often have different opinions on that)? Does Pearl still turn things upside down if they're in a virtual world where Australia presumably doesn't exist?) However, as I was looking at these questions, I realized it wasn't so much that I wanted like concrete answers to each one, so much as like ... I wanted more of an idea about the characters backstories. Right now, we're very much in Grian's head, and he's not exactly in a good enough headspace to be thinking that much about his own pre-Watcher past, much less anyone else's past. I assume it will be awhile until the fic gets into a place where we can find out some of this info without it feeling awkwardly jammed in, so I just kind of want a better idea of where each character (or at least, Grian + Grian Retrieval Squad) is coming from.

Like, you mentioned all Hermits except for Joe and TFC were spawned, not born, but as examples to show what I mean: how old were Grian & co when they spawned? Did they spawn in a single player world (which I think is implied from how you said single player worlds are formed around players, correct me if I'm wrong) or a multiplayer world? Did they have anything like caregivers/guardians/non-blood-related family when they were younger? What was their first multiplayer experience like, and how'd they find Hermitcraft? What education did they have? What led them to becoming redstoners (Tango and Mumbo), builders (Grian, Scar, and Pearl), or admin (Xisuma)? How did Grian meet Mumbo and/or Pearl? (Reminder, these are just examples of the type of info I'm curious about, not looking for each one to be answered specifically.)

So yeah, basically, not really any specific questions so much as "character backstory info please? *puppy dog eyes*"

OHHH MAN i will fully admit i havent done a ton of research into cc histories and previous smps etc etc-- i know some stuff thru fandom osmosis, but i dont know a lot of details (hence why i find your tidbits really neat!!!!!) and so unfortunately i dont have,,, the most detailed or even semi-detailed answers for this rn 😭😭😭😭😭

I can however offer that i do tend to sorta cherrypick and meld some irl cc stuff with the characters sometimes as almost easter eggs??? So like with the Mumbo and Grian stuff, i'd want to sorta glance at the dates on those irl eps vs the dates of the Evo eps and base backstory stuff of that!!! Basically in short, i'd need to actually do a bit more research and figure out how i want to incorporate things before fully committing to anything just yet!!! I actually am still currently living the same life as I had been pre-void, I haven’t gone back into it just because I’ve been busy recently and haven’t had a chance to really focus on entering it!

My life is exactly the same, but I’m noticing everything is just naturally going my way. Like, I don’t even feel the need to manifest and I don’t worry about “oh but will it, won’t it.” I’m planning on sharing a story about some things I manifested recently but tl;dr I literally manifested tickets to Disneyland and winning lottery tickets (like actual tickets from those scratchers, not money 💀 not yet at least 👀) in the most improbable scenarios and I barely gave it a second thought. Did I have doubts? Heck yeah I did, I got all nervous and pessimistic about it, but I persisted and as soon as those negative thoughts appeared I’d go “no, actually I have everything I want and I literally don’t care otherwise.” And boom! Just like that the thoughts went away and I continued about my day like normal!

It’s the little things honestly, but it was such a change from one day to another that honestly the next time I really give myself the time to manifest from the void I feel in my soul I’ll be sharing some intensely amazing experiences :) <3

THIS WHOLE SERIES WAS A ROLLER COASTER MAN, THE STAR CROSSED LOVERS STORY TURNING INTO A BETRAYAL THRILLER AND FINALLY TO A TALE (TAIL heh) OF HEALING AND PAST REGRETS I'M IN LOVE, How it started with a love you think could work if they fight for it hard enough to a love you think shouldn't be after the actions of one to a love you know could never be yet something that could teach someone the importance of cherishing those you care about no matter your selfish desires. MAN THIS STORY IS MAKING ME SPOUT OUT POET SADNESS like actually it's just such a nice story and the fact that it doesn't end with them getting back together the right way this time gives it a sense of bittersweet endings, Rin might still love her but YN loves Shin now, yet that doesn't mean the love she had for Rin was something she'd forget about, it was part of who she is today and the times when they truly did seem in love were happy moments. YN understanding that her experiences changed her for better or worse, but it taught her so much and it led her to Shin. This feels so bittersweet and I can't have it any other way :) This series is amazing and I hope you continue to write in ways that could invoke the old man writing with a feather pen in an old study in people (specifically me)

I probably won’t share much of my own experiences on this blog outside of the occasional post that I really want to write a response to, and this is one of those scenarios!

As a disclaimer, I’d like to note that I’ve been become more disconnected from my culture throughout the years, so I won’t try to explain the connections to broader Chinese culture and society and how I’ve been raised. I’ll just talk about my experiences and maybe a bit more!

I’m Chinese-Canadian and grew up in a predominantly Chinese area.

Growing up, my parents never exactly talked about romance or sex, and never discussed their relationship with me at all. They were also never very “physical” (like kissing, handholding, that kind of stuff). I never questioned it until I started to see romance and parents in media and thought “Is there something going on with them?” Nope! They’re chill. I just didn’t know that was common among Chinese diaspora! (I could go on a tangent about media rep but I just don’t Feel like it right now lol)

My Chinese friends and their families also never really talked about romance (but in a romance-negative kind of way, which I don’t think is the right way to go about Things [combatting amatonormativity]). I think my upbringing helped normalize aromanticism for me, and made it easier to accept my aroace-ness. I found that it was also a lot easier to figure out and accept that I was asexual because Western society, at least considers sex and sexuality to be a very hush-hush topic to begin with.

I went to a predominantly Chinese elementary school. My classmates did talk about crushes, but it wasn’t really that important in the grand scheme of things (because well. Our culture never really placed romantic love on a pedestal.) I did participate in some of these discussions, but that was because I mixed up my tertiary attraction with romantic attraction! Wahoo! (That really confused me😭)

But in middle school, I went to a majority-white school for pre-IB (which was hell btw) and there was a lot more emphasis on romance! Which was a moment because I already figured out I was ace! I did find another ace and aroace during my last year at that school, which helped normalize a-spec identities for me, but Events happened that I will Not talk about here because it’s Too Personal lol (haha)

Coming out is already hard to begin with, but especially in Asian households. When you have an identity that’s already quite obscure, it becomes even harder. Because of this, Inever came out to my parents, or intended to come out to them before I got a stable job. I thought they wouldn’t understand. I did come out to my cousin. She told my mom. She was relatively (?) accepting but dang. It still sucked balls. AAAAAAAAAAAA IT WAS A SITUATION!!!!!!!!

Community is really important when figuring out who you are. Even though the Events happened, I’m grateful that I was friends with them. They really helped me a lot.

Onto the stuff that isn’t just my entire life story!

I experience queerplatonic attraction, and a while back I was setting up my Chinese pronouns.page (which was hell because I can’t read simplified or traditional Chinese💀) and stumbled across a term I’ve never seen before: 知音 (zhiyin). I looked further into it and I was like “holy shiiiiit this fits me and my qpp perfectly!!1!” To me, 知音 feels like it has more weight to it than the term qpp, because yeag! It’s also a more localized term for qpp that I can use with my family if need be (which is awesome).

i’d like to read about non-white aro experiences (as well as experiences of aro people from outside the US and UK). i don’t think there are enough explicitly non-white conversations about aromanticism. i remember seeing a demographic poll a long time ago, with a majority of aromantic tumblr identifying as white, but non-white aros exist!

i want to hear from people who can’t/won’t come out because of cultural expectations or language barriers. people who use different words to describe their aromanticism. people who experience isolation from the aro community because they aren’t white (enough). i want to hear about aromanticism from new angles!

of course, no one is ever obligated to reveal their ethnicity or race online. but if anyone has seen writing on diverse aro experiences or if they want to share their own experiences, i’d like to read about other perspectives! (pls send stuff my way)
