The Elden Ring is a Reference to 16th Century Occultism

Multiple YouTube channels have connected ideas and story concepts within Elden Ring to alchemy and other practices sometimes called "occult sciences", but I think the Elden Ring itself is the biggest hidden reference of all, specifically to the Hieroglyphic Monad of John Dee, a famous 16th century scryer and occultist who was court astrologer to Elizabeth I.

The Elden Ring as we know if governs the logic and order of the world (the purported "holism" of the Golden Order as Corhyn calls it), but it is made of constituent Great Runes that make up aspects of that order.

This bears a striking resemblance to the glyph shown in the text "Monas Hieroglyphica", published by John Dee in 1564. This glyph was purported to contain the secrets of astrology, alchemy and spiritual practice, "representing the unity of all creation influenced by celestial forces", a holistic view of the cosmos and the arcane knowledge within it contained within one symbol.

It gets better, too, as the constituent parts of the Hieroglyphic Monad contain various astrological symbols, and can even be arranged (according to Dee) to look like alchemical equipment, showing the interconnectedness between all things.

You could think of all these pieces of the Hieroglyphic Monad like the Great Runes of the Elden Ring, each representing a piece of the order governing the world, forming a coherent and functional whole once they are united.

Most of the arcane/alchemical discussion about Elden Ring focuses on the alchemical Rebis of Marika/Radagon or the Nox and their Silver Tears, but I haven't seen many people talking about the Elden Ring/Hieroglyphic Monad connection.

i thought i had met the one. no, for real this time. i say that every time i meet a guy. i swear.

unfortunately i do our synastry chart and he only had one key aspect. most of my exes usually have more than one. first red flag, i ignore.

keep telling myself maybe he only has one because he’s the one key for me. even though the key aspect was a bad one.

he’s a cancer sun like me. my lilith is also in cancer and supposedly that means you attract the darker aspects of that sign. that would line up. his moon is in gemini, mine is in virgo. kinda at odds there. he constantly wanted to argue. like to the point where it didn’t make sense. like pulling arguments out of thin air and kept running out of ideas.

all his personal planets are in cancer. mine are in gemini. his moon is in libra 7th house, my uranus is in 7th house. i have a tattoo of uranus glyph on my ring finger because it’s my favorite planet for what it represents in astrology. supposedly moon in 7th makes needy for like constant social interaction and having people around. also adds up. he has a lot of friends, and he’d use that to hurt me.

he had pluto in 11th house. i have mars, mercury, and venus there. i really feel like he livened me up. helped me see a light and grow comfortable in my skin and environment. pluto is power and i definitely felt empowered.

my sun is in 12th house, his was in 8th. compatible houses. we talked about spirits and the occult. he told me he had seen a demon one time. it made me fall for him harder. i have a vacant 8th house so it really piqued my interest. i thought it was cute, sexy. an 8th house sun.

gonna be real i've never heard this before and i hate that Helos shit because i think the tyburs are the only real weakness of this whole story But i have astrological reasons for associating reiner with Helios and Apollo

hmmm... really central to my reading of AoT is subversion of what a hero looks like (the title of armin roast chapter, snk 82), challenging shounen conventions of strength and ability, so i can see how the gratuitous Helos lore drop coinciding with our exposure to reiner's dire mental state might connect the two: helos is a tall tale, the golden hero that the 104th looked up to and still adored by the warrior candidates doesn't feel strong at all. there's also reiner (and annie)'s mixed heritage maybe suggesting the tybur-marley coalition that ended the Great Titan War but iiiiiiii don't know. my hesitation with the tyburs and Helos is mostly because of the conspiracy dogwhistle of them as "the true rulers of marley" and in his stupid ass theater kid death revealing the Helos lie, Willy added more fuel to the fire that eldians are untrustworthy, which I don't want reiner anywhere near. if anything actual "new" helos is armin: taking credit for killing eren to spare mikasa further pain. and he's way more chill with lying, bless him
