The last things ghost could remember, was the cracked goggles burning in the flames, soulless eyes staring right back at him- and then waking up in the infirmary.
Sometimes he could see him, on the floor, choking on the gasoline seeping through his mask. An already deceased body burned to nothing. He doesn’t get much sleep those nights.
The scars never help, the faint burns on his skin, an everlasting reminder of the soldier lost that day, one of not many words, yet so expressive. Sometimes ghost would hear a crackle of flames, yet no fire to be found. Memories haunting, or maybe someone haunting.
The radio clicks on, a tune echoes through the halls. His favorite. Always heard through his headphones, and sometimes, you could even see him, Gary, sitting on the floor, listening, humming, gone with a click as the song finished.
The disfigured apparition standing in the doorway of his room, Gary’s room. Disappearing with the blink of an eye, a phantom, a figure never to be forgotten.

eeeeee ok so i decided to write a lil oneshot of the chain as cryptids au, with a little bit of self projection onto wild- (i made him autistic and use they/them - slighting non binary coded on accident🙏 which i hope is ok, i just got carried away)
Gift giving
Cryptid!wild + Cryptid!hyrule bonding <3
Wild was, well- wild. He didn’t take kindly to being forced into a box, some would call them a man because he looked like it, when in reality wild was just wild. Not a ‘man’ or ‘woman’- just wild. He was also told by strangers, whenever in one of their brothers hyrules, they would get caught into conversations somehow and were told that they were rude for not making eye contact and moving around- when in reality that just meant they were paying attention! Hylians were just weird! When wild joined the chain of strange heroes, he felt like an outcast in some ways, these were all beings who knew how to interact with each other, wild liked cooking for them, it was wilds way of showing they cared and did want to be friends, which was not something he normally did, but you know- when your forced to travel with people Sometimes, they would find a stream, and practice facial expressions and giving eye contact, but they’d get lost focusing on the fish darting into their reflection. The stream was going at a slow pace, but the sounds of it rippling through itself was nice. The sounds of the forest creatures coming by to drink the cold water and leaving just as quick made the atmosphere just as good. Eventually sky had came by, probably to come get me to make dinner.
“Everything alright?”
He chirped, crouching beside me. His wings folded in on himself as to not hit me into the river, since he did have past accidents of doing so. I nodded, my antennas swaying in the wind, i watched the stream carefully, picking out the patterns in the way it moved downstream, i think wind would’ve liked to sink into the water, it was deep enough to sit in. Sky was probably going to say something else, but i saw the sun hit something just right in the water that made it sparkle. I immediately dunked my hand in, making sky jump at my sudden movement, i got whatever it was, and tugged it out of the soil. I shook my hand dry, and found that i had grabbed a bracelet, with sea patterns, strange runes on it, and opal gemstones engraved into it.
“Ohh cool! I wonder what it does! We should ask legend! He might know since it seems ocean themed and he’s a merman of sorts”
Sky ecstatically ushered me to follow him back to camp, so when we got back, sky darted to legend. He had dragged him over, and legend carefully examined the metal bracelet.
“Looks like something to keep you from getting wet, the bracelet i assume is something that can absorb water into the opal gems that would originally get in your clothes or skin and keeps it dry.”
He explained, handing the bracelet back to me. I nodded, smiling softly. If there was one thing i knew, is that hyrule didn’t like getting wet in his fairy form, and he was the few people I’d yet to truly interact with for longer than a few conversations. I knew he was out and about, but i didn’t know where- i decided to wait, sitting patiently in a tree as i swung back and forth repeatedly by my legs on a sturdy branch. Hyrule came back a couple minutes later, with wood in his arms. He set them down and sat next to legend, sparking up a conversation. I didn’t want to interrupt, but hyrule needed to have it! Even if wild did really want it, hyrule would like it more and find better use for it. I hopped down, small bells and chimes sounding from no where as i basically bounced over to where hyrule was sitting. I stood near his field of view, trying to find a pause in their conversation to make movement and get his attention. For a couple seconds, it was quiet between them, and hyrule looked to me.
“What’s up?”
He softly questioned me, raising a brow. My antennas flicked as i registered his question, and i remembered why I’d been standing there. I extended the bracelet to him, he was a bit taken aback, but smiled and took it.
“Thank you wild! What is it?”
He tilted his head, looking to me again. I waved a hand to legend, trying to ask him to explain- which he got the memo.
“Oh! Wild gave you a bracelet that helps keep you dry, it seems the opal and runes engraved on it give it magical properties to keep water off your skin and clothes.”
He explained once more, pointing to the engravings and opal gems he was talking about. Hyrules wings fluttered slightly, in which i hoped was joy, he turned to me and smiled even wider than before.
“Thank you! This means a lot, since i know you like to hoard things like this, and you’re willingly giving it up for me.”
He sounded slightly guilty in his tone, which i managed to pick out based off his head bowing. I waved a hand in front of his face to get his attention, my antennae’s flattened as i scowled at him.
‘Give you, make me happy, you happy’
I signed to the best of my ability, getting my whole gesture across. He nodded, smiling again.
“Thank you, again-“
He laughed softly, it sounded energetic, which meant he was happy. That cheered me up, Hyrule hopefully knew i wanted to be best friends now, maybe even brothers! Like how he would refer to legend or wind. Wild knew he would’ve liked the bracelet, but this was a better choice.

ok so i was thinking of my Agere! Legend head canons, and maybe sorta wrote a small fic
writing below the cut! (I don’t write often and I’m too tired and small to look it over, so sorry if it’s bad..)
Legend had been sitting on his bedroll for a bit, not really doing much but staring at his hands. He was trying to shove away that fuzzy feeling in the back of his mind. Ravio would’ve scolded him for trying to, but he didn’t want the rest of the chain to know about his coping mechanism.
“Vet?” Winds voice pierced my silence. I looked up to meet his gaze, and for some odd reason, it’s like a switch turned off in my brain. I stayed silent, but kept looking at him, eventually tilting my head waiting for him to continue.
“Are you alright?” Wind sat down, worry clear on his face. I nodded, looking around the campsite. “I wanna read my book.” I replied quietly. He blinked in surprise, but nodded.
“Would you like me to get it or..?” He trailed off, waiting for me to answer. I stood up, having left my bag by the campfire. I dragged wind with me, rummaging through it until i found it. Wind was peeking over my shoulder. Wild was sitting by the fire, looking over at me and wind curiously. “What’s happening?” He asked suspiciously.
“Nothin, legend wanted his book and dragged me with him.” Wind responded quietly, still trying to figure out why i was acting so different. I smiled widely once I’d sat down, flipping to where I’d last left off.
“Legend, you didn’t get hit by a wizzrobe or cursed at some random point did you?” Wild accusingly pointed his ladle at me. I simply shook my head, not even looking up.
Wild and wind shared a look.
“Lege, do you happen to have a coping mechanism where you seem to revert back to a child mentally?” Wild asked quietly, wary of the few still awake. That caught my attention, i looked up slightly wide eyed and nervous.
Wind sat down next to me, wild walked over to sit in front of me.
“Don’t worry, i understand.” Wild smiled excitedly. I looked at wind, who nodded in understanding too. I smiled, bonking my head against both their shoulders before going back to reading my book. They both went and got their own little projects, coming back to sit next to me. We sat in silence, it was kind of hard to focus on my book, i missed rav and the way he would expressively read my book to me sometimes. I tried not to think too much of it.
Eventually, I’d yawned a couple times before wild elbowed me softly. I looked at him with half lidded eyes.
“You need to go to sleep, cmon.” He stood up, extending a hand to me. I took it, dragging wind with us. I kicked off my boots, snuggling into my bedroll and waving goodnight to wild and wind. I turned over, using my pillow as a way to cope with missing my stuffie and Ravio.

Whumptober day 3:
Trust issues
⤷ ‘ ‘ Forgotten ‘ ‘
Phantom aches for the familiarity of a pack, why doesn’t anyone let him in?
TW: eating disorder
A/N: this is Lowkey really messily written, so apologies :(
────✦────
When he was first summoned, he felt like he’d finally have the chance to experience a healthy pack dynamic, and he did, or he thought he did. Truth is, he didn’t know what was healthy, and what wasn’t- no one taught him that, so he was going off what made him happy, and what made him sad or upset.
First, aurora was the only one who acknowledged him, and brought him dinner for awhile, because they’d forgotten to tell him it was even happening, and he didn’t know the schedule besides practice times.  She’d stopped after a bit, seemingly forgot to do so one night, then the next, and it was an ongoing pattern. Practice was normal, but he ached, his head, body, all of it, his heart heavy. He’d sit back, let the others take the lead, while his tail and ears drooped. No one told him ‘good job!’ Or ‘nice work!’ It was just criticism. Not even constructive, but it was played off as a joke.
“Cmon phantom, can’t you do anything right?”
Rain had innocently smiled and laughed, treating the comment like an inside joke. Was he the joke? He didn’t like how it felt being the joke.
-
Tour. They were going on tour, and he had to be in a confined place, with all of them. He’d grown to hate them in private, but when he was with them, he followed like a lost dog anyway. They’d unclipped his leash long before, yet he felt like he had to stay, like he was being pulled along by an invisible leash. Sitting on the bus was hell, he’d end up sitting on a bench alone, so he’d taken to just doodling, finding comfort in the hobby.
-
He’d gotten better, way better, he’d spend all his time practicing his instrument. Phantom tried anything to get them to notice him, give him the same treatment they gave aurora.. sweet praise, just nice attention, not mean.
-
He performed beautifully, no mishaps, yet still, nothing. He was forgotten, an afterthought, burdening them, and he was overbearing, desperate to get any kind of contact or socialization from the pack- the pack he wasn’t part of. He kept practicing, and even once he could get through a full setlist without even having to double check with someone what the next song was or what the strumming pattern was, he wasn’t acknowledged, his efforts treated like a chore he should’ve had done and figured out ages ago. Once he’d figured it wasn’t his playing that made him left out, he’d gone to the conclusion it was his looks, maybe it was the splotches on his skin, maybe it was the way his left eye didn’t glow in the darkness like it was supposed to, or maybe, just maybe- it was the fact he wasn’t small enough, was his body the problem? Did they think he wasn’t built to be part of the pack? to interact because he took up too much space. He’d figured that just had to be it, right? And down the rabbit hole he went.
-
Skipped meals, excuses, excuses, excuses.. no one noticed, none of them noticed when they had to resize his uniform because it didn’t fit right anymore, the sister of sin who was assigned to resize, asked if he was okay, with which he replied yes, no one needed to know anything.
-
Weeks passed, he’d get angry and snapped at the others often, he’d chalked it up to finally standing up for himself, but deep down, he was just irritable from not getting the sustenance he needed. Liquids only did so much, if anything at all. Bad foods and good foods were an overbearing part of meal time, what he could spend his calories on, and if he wasted it or not. He pulled away, and it affected his playing, that’s all they cared about, not about how he could feel his bones just by grazing his hand over his side, but the fact his playing was “sluggish” and “falling behind”. His head ached, the pain was a lot- nothing helped.
-
During a practice session, he’d woken up feeling sick, but he wasn’t hungry, or he felt like he wasn’t hungry.. he’d been watching his body closely, paying no mind to his weight, only if he was small enough so maybe he could squeeze himself into cuddling, or just into their social interactions. So as he played, he was sluggish, breathing hard, hunched over because his stomach was hurting, he was light headed, and there had to he a migraine nuzzling itself right behind his eyes. He’d felt his vision starting to black out, the music fell on deaf ears, he didn’t notice when everything had stopped, and copia- bless his heart- was there to catch him when he fell.

Whumptober day 1:
Race against the clock.
‘ ‘ Search party. ‘ ‘
One of the links goes missing. Where could he have gone?
────✦────
You’d expect wild, or hyrule to be the one out of the group to disappear, hell, even wind of all people. But why was warriors gone? More importantly, where had the soldier gone? The first to notice was time, of course time, the man was the tallest, so after headcount after a grueling battle that wasn’t forgiving- he noticed the knight was missing.
“Where’s wars?”
He’d asked the group, immediate confusion and worry spread through the group.
“Shit, last i saw he was taking down a moblin.”
Legend had informed, walking to where he’d last been, looking around.
“Wars?”
Twilight called out, hoping the link had just been off to the side, doing Hylia knows what. Panic set in when there was no response, nothing.
“Warriors!” Legend shouted, immediately going into the woods.
“Legend! Don’t separate!”
Time called after him, turning to hyrule.
“Hyrule, go with him. Tell him to meet back here at sunset or if you find him.”
The eldest instructed, turning to the others, the traveler running after the other.
“Same for all of you, split into pairs, we have to find him.”
He kept his tone even, but the worry was evident in his eyes.
No one wasted any time, there wasn’t any favoritism, just grabbing the nearest person, and going in a separate direction, set on finding their brother.
Hours passed, the sun getting lower in the sky did nothing to raise their spirits. Each cave had been searched, every corner, nook and cranny searched thoroughly. Where had he gone?
“Its not like he just disappeared into thin air”
Wild frustratingly sighed, peaking into a cave, wandering in.
“We don’t know that, considering our luck, he could’ve gotten swallowed up by a portal.”
Four hissed, worried and getting increasingly upset they still hadn’t found him.
“Let’s check here, maybe those monsters had a hideout and he got taken”
Wild suggested, lighting a torch, the cave was dark, damp, and smelled like mildew. Four had no objections, willing to try anything at this point.
They walked into the dimly lit cave, four close to wild, trying to spot any imperfections or entryways.
“This seems like a tunnel, not really a cave.”
Wild absent mindlessly commented. Four hummed in response. Eventually, the two came across a large cave in, no way of getting past in sight.
“Damnit, four, see any way past?” Wild had climbed up a bit, cautious of the sturdiness, it looked like a recent disaster.
“Nothing here”
The shorter replied.
…
Why was it dark?
He had no idea why his throat felt dry, why his body ached, or why he felt like his eyes were being stabbed from the inside. Slowly, ever so slowly, he came back to his senses. He had been dragged off by a few moblins, they’d cornered him, took him into an area, but he’d won- why was it dark? The memory quickly came back, he’d fallen, somewhere, where specifically? He had no idea, all he knew was he couldn’t move his legs, and oxygen was slowly getting more scarce.
The two links were looking around the debris, shifting rocks carefully, warning each other when doing so. This wasn’t a good time for risking injury.
“Maybe we should head back..”
Four muttered, setting down a larger stone, finding a pocket in the rocks, but no sign of a body.
“Maybe he’s just-“
Wild started his thought, but stopped, eyes blown wide, and immediately feeling his breath catch in his throat.
“Four, get up here now”
He didn’t say why, or even look at the other, but he didn’t need to, four knew.
An orange tint of light, filtered through the cracks of his cage, not really a cage, no bars kept him in, but he was trapped by stone, limbs pinned, and a boulder weighing on his chest- making it hard to breath. He couldn’t call out, see if someone was there, he just couldn’t. He shut his eyes, wars couldn’t grasp onto his conscious much longer.
Voices, his brothers voices to be exact, who they belonged to fell on deaf ears, he didn’t know. All he knew was the rocks were shifting, words muffled, his ears were ringing. Why were they ringing?
Next thing he knows, is the rocks slowly came off of his body, shifted and rolled away from him, eliminating the pressure that hurt so badly, adrenaline having worn off long ago.
“FOUR! I SEE HIS FACE!” The voice he knew belonged to wild, shouted immediately, after noticing the boulder crushing his midsection.
“Do you have anything to give you strength?”
The teen questioned the other, moving any stones he could.
The two conversed, wars could only focus on the burning pain in his body, his leg had definitely been sprained, and his chest? That was a whole other story, broken ribs, for sure.
He felt wilds presence beside him.
“It’ll be alright link, we’re getting you out of here.”
He murmured softly, comforting warriors.
Four braced his arms, it wasn’t a boulder trapping him, just an annoyingly large rock, jagged, and if four failed to get it out of the way, it’d fall back the way it came, crushing and killing warriors in a swift movement. It was a daunting task, but four was confident in his abilities, assuring wild he knew he could do it.
“I’m lifting it now, get ready to move him.”
Four informed the other, wild nodded.
“Ready.”
Wild braced his arms, ready to snatch warriors out of there.
“I’m going to move you out, don’t panic.”
Wild murmured, making sure wars was somewhat conscious and alive.
Rocks grinding against rocks broke the eerie silence, four grunted, straining to move it. Once it was off warriors enough, wild shifted him, getting him out of the spot he’d been in, careful of his wounds, and then grabbing him more securely, all while four was moving the stone. Wild got wars out, four shifting the rock away, and immediately joining the two.
“Oh fuck, we need a potion don’t we? Rulie isn’t close by, and warriors is the only other medic trained for shit like this.”
Four spoke his thoughts aloud, panic evident in his voice, but he kept himself level, trying to keep himself from being overbearing with panic.
“I have some fairy tonics in my bag, get them.”
Wild instructed, four wasted no time in doing as he asked.
Wars didn’t feel good at all, his body ached, and his chest felt like it was burning, his heart working overtime- because that felt like it was burning too. All he could muster was a pained groan, shifting in wilds arms.
“It’ll be ok wars, sip this.”
Wild comforted, pressing something to the older man’s mouth, a liquid hitting his cracked lips. He registered it, and slowly let it enter his mouth, the taste was sweet, and slightly sour. He swallowed, feeling it slowly, and painfully knit back together skin and bone, snapping them back into place, which made him writhe in agony.
“I know, i know, i know- just please- hold on.”
Wild pleaded, four and him were a comforting presence, he felt his vision blur, and go black.
When he’d awoke again, he was surrounded by his family, albeit spread out around the campsite, but all in close proximity. While wild had said in the past, fairy tonics had healed him greatly, they didn’t just make him good as new immediately m, it took time to heal properly- It just cut that time in half. Wars experienced this for the first time, immediately overwhelmed with how sore his body was, and the ache in his chest and leg. But he was alive, that’s all that mattered.

Whumptober day 2:
trust issues
‘ ‘ you got away with the crime while the knife’s in my back ‘ ‘
Shepherds betrayal.
CW: canon character death
────✦────
Everything hurt, blood seeping through his gear, and clothes, but he had to get the intel to shepherd, he had to.
Ghost. Ghost was there, there to catch him when he fell, together they made it to shepherd, handing it off.
“Good, that’s one less loose end.”
The last thing he said to him, as he felt searing pain, and watching ghost fall with him. No one was there to catch either of them when they fell.
It was different when it was a teammate dragging you, because they wanted you to get to safety, when it was an enemy, it was like getting dragged to hell, and ghost was right beside him, dead. He wished he could’ve seen his face one last time, his eyes too, but they’d be lifeless. Why was he still conscious? He should’ve been dead.
He choked on gasoline, the liquid burning his lungs and throat, seeping into his mask, and the hot, burning pain slowly tore through his gear, clothes, until it reached his already ruined skin, burning away at his body, and he couldn’t scream, couldn’t writhe in agony. Soap screamed his name through the comms still working, crackling flames the only response, shepherd had betrayed them.

notice how everything feels.
uhm, i never really share my writing, but i really liked how this one turned out and i wanna share it-
~~~~~~~ sky and wild bonding because i wanna see them more >:(
I’d always been described as cryptic, whether it be by travelers, stable-hands, flora, even my brothers, but i had to admit- they were right. I was never one to sit still, once I’d woken up after my time in the shrine, i’d been drawn more towards nature, the way the grass felt against my feet, the texture of the dirt, the trees lightly scraping my hands as i would climb to see the vast world around me, and the wind carding through my hair as i stood in towers. Even after gaining a handful of memories, i was well aware of the fact that i would’ve been punished for acting so childish- whether by the king or the head commander of the guards. Maybe because i would get dirty and didn’t fit social norms- I would get dirty while rolling in the grass- staining my shirt, shield surfing down mountain sides, howling with the wolves at night, chirping to the birds, cooking some meat for the dogs at stables, and even taste testing every single thing i’d come across. Everything had a sound and texture, some were good, some would make me want to claw my ears and hands off, a gamble truly- but a gamble he was willing to take to find tasty edible things nature had to offer. After joining the chain, no one commented on his strange behaviors, only until he was about to attempt to eat the entirety of a vegetable from the ranchers garden- roots, dirt, and all. They didn’t trust him much after that to be left alone with anything he’d deem edible, sky was the only one curious enough to ask about why he thought that was edible, and they’d talk about it for hours. One specific night on watch in twilights hyrule, wild sat comfortably beside the flickering fire light, occasionally looking around to do his job- watching out for monsters or strangers. Wild carefully laid down flat on his back after the fire had gone to a small dying light source. The moment the flames went out, after about 10 seconds- the night sky was suddenly brighter, stars shined against the black ink that flora had deemed ‘space’ and the moon was a waxing gibbous tonight, so it was especially beautiful. After hylia knows how long, he heard the sound of someone shuffling in their bed roll. He sat up on his elbows, looking around and seeing sky drowsily staring at him, raising an eyebrow as if asking ‘gonna wake me up for watch or no?’ As he sat upright. Wild smiled sheepishly, sitting up now to better watch sky walk over and plop down next to him.
“You didn’t wake me up for watch”
Sky elbowed him playfully, grinning slightly.
“Sorry, got carried away loving this view”
He gazed upwards, craning his neck to watch different stars twinkle and occasionally a shooting star would follow suit. As he and sky watched the night slowly drift from a cold and comforting silence, to a morning fog of moonlight and sunlight battling for the sky.
“Well, times gonna throw a fit when he finds out we just stayed up and didn’t wake legend for 3rd watch”
Sky laughed softly, bowing his head in a sad attempt to muffle his laughter in his knees. Wild shrugged, taking in the morning scents of early moon fall and sun rise. The grass had a slight frost of late October, birds starting to stir in their nests, his hands making contact with the frosty grass and would turn his hands light red from the chill, and the fact he was breathing and alive.
“Do you ever believe that there could be an even higher power than hylia?”
I innocently asked, i knew this could be a touchy subject for sky, but it was a genuine question. He was quiet, but inhaled and exhaled calmly.
“I’m not sure, i definitely believe there is someone or something at the same power level as her, but i don’t know”
He shrugged mindlessly, not once taking his eyes off the black and pink mixing together to make the view of daybreak.
“What about a god, goddess, or deity that controls or is associated with nature? I’m sure hylia doesn’t manage the forests, oceans, rivers, and animals on her own..”
I murmured aloud, half speaking to myself and sky.
“Maybe, i wouldn’t doubt it.”
Sky smiled, leaning into wild comfortingly.
“I’m never going to judge you if you have a different belief than me, we both have very different stories and experiences with hylia, I’d never hate you for expressing your discomfort or disregard of hylia, and i hope you know that”
Sky firmly looked me in the eyes and elbowed my side to truly get his point across- earning a choked laugh from me.
“I know, i know, thank you sky, I’d also never judge your belief and trust in hylia, I’m well aware she’s your girlfriend.”
I poked sky’s chest accusingly, smiling smugly.
Sky frowned, but kept his humor in his eyes.
“These are my favorite bonding moments, just exposed to nature- just us and the spider crawling on your leg”
I smiled widely, after sky heard the last part- he shrieked in horror, looking down and practically flinging himself upward as the little spider was resting on his thigh. Everyone immediately bolted awake and reached for a weapon hearing his screams, but soon realized the false alarm that was sky shuddering and tugging at wilds ear as he chewed him out about doing that to his poor brother.
Yeah, wild enjoyed these moments.
———-
I’ll proof read this like weeks later and realize i wrote something wrong 😨
Twilight go to bed
Reader who is twilights brother (he/him) traveling with the chain, and he uses mostly sign language to communicate. it’s nighttime but twi still hasn’t gone to bed yet
————————-
Twilight sat, staring into the fire flickering, mesmerized by the dancing of the flames, before footsteps interrupted his thoughts. Twilight looked up, it was his brother, flailing his hand in front of twilights vision, to get his attention. He was only a couple years younger than twi, but managed to act older on certain occasions. ‘Time says it’s time for bed loser’ he signed, stifling a yawn. Twilight missed what he’d said, not paying attention and also forgetting some of the signs. “Wait, repeat please? What did you say?” Twilight regrets asking, cause his brother gasps loudly, before placing a hand on their forehead and dropping his entire body weight on twi. “Ow- can you not?” Twi hissed, struggling while trying to get his brother off him, but his brother just sighed dramatically, pouting like a baby, how fun. Twilight rolled his eyes. “Are you done yet?” He sat unamused. ‘My own brother, forgot sign’ he just curled up and began to fake cry. Twilight glared at his brother, before he finally sighed in defeat getting up, dragging twi with him. ‘Your going to bed mister’ he signed sternly. His brother always acted like his parent toHumor him, but it was mutual and bonded them stronger together. Twilight sighed, yawning after. “Alright alright… I’m goin’ “ twi kicked off his boots, slipping into his sleeping bag, drifting off to sleep quickly. His brother sat next to him, braiding strands of hair, humming midnas lament, knowing it comforted him a lot. “All will be swell..” it was barely above a whisper, but on the rare occasion that his brother talked, it was calming. Like listening to rain patter onto a house on a full night sky of stars.
{ Golden hour }
Reader (gender neutral + uses mostly sign language) the sound of a ukulele and singing attracts the presence of koroks, and eventually two curious boys.
-songs mentioned:
Try again tomorrow
rises the moon
[by Liana Flores]
—————————
The time was golden hour, perfect time to sit by the river. The Melody being strummed from the ukulele was calm and sweet, try again tomorrow always calmed your mind. The song being played attracted the presence of a couple koroks, sitting and enjoying the music. they had showed up out of no where, but you didn’t question it, koroks were Strange enough anyway. Once you got halfway through the song, footsteps could be heard to your right, and two boys were peaking their heads out curiously from the trees, one had a light blue tunic on with a white lobster design, the other looked older, but not by at least 5/6 years. The older one had a slightly darker blue colored tunic, with a white sword embroidered on the front, and curious eyes, you locked eyes with them both, patting the patch of grass beside you, a friendly gesture for them to sit and enjoy the song as much as the others. They hesitated, but sat down, watching the river and listening to the song, clinging to every strum and lyric. Eventually night fell, you switched to a different song, rises the moon. The night sky was filled with stars, and music played softly, the song ended, and you stopped to look at the boys, who were drifting to sleep, but to make sure they weren’t outside during night, you had to shake them awake gently. “Hey..!” You whispered, leaning close to make sure they’d hear it. The younger one slowly woke up, realizing it was late and jumped to his feet. “Sorry! Your singing is very comforting and calming, but we need to get back to our place.” He smiled widely, rushing the sentence, before shoving the other, waking him up successfully. “Wild, come on! Time is gonna kill us if we are any later!” The younger one, was rushing him up, waving goodbye and heading off to wherever they’d be staying, you sat, laughing softly to yourself and the koroks still remaining. ‘You like?’ You signed to them curiously, the koroks all nodded vigorously, dancing around happily, earning a laugh from you. As it got later, you decided here would be fine to set up camp, so you did just that, falling asleep rather quickly, your mind still on those strange boys from earlier.
who’s traumatized child is this? Mine now!
[chapter 3]
The next few weeks were- uneventful to say the least, unless you count wind getting into shenanigans with hyrule trying to keep it tame. During the first week- I’d managed to talk to four one weekend, finding him downstairs reading a book. I’d stood there for a little, trying to figure out how to get his attention, without interrupting his reading.
“You’ve been standing awhile, what’s up?” His voice broke me out of my thoughts, back to him. His gaze was on me, smiling but with a raised brow to look at me curiously. I shuffled through the signs I’d need to say what i wanted to say, and thank goodness four was patient.
Ms peach stayed outside with me until a truck pulled up to the front. A tall man with strange, faint tattoos on his face, and one scar on his eye caught my attention first. He walked over, smiling softly as he looked at me and doctor peach.
“Hello, is this wild?”
He asked, keeping his body language loose and welcoming.
“Yes, he has his things in his backpack and is all set! Thank you Mr lon Lon, we appreciate this.”
She smiled, shaking hands with mr lon lon.
“Oh please, just call me time- no need for formalities.”
He waved her off, then turned to me.
“Hey wild, ready to go?”
He questioned me softly, not commenting when i swayed side to side and kept looking anywhere but his eyes. I hesitantly nodded, looking one last time to ms peach and waving goodbye. She waved back, slightly teary eyed- heading back inside the hospital.
“Would you like to sit in the front or back?”
He broke the silence, giving me the options. I thought for a moment- but pointed to the back seat.  (read the rest on ao3)
link + Ayla meet the chain 🫵
(my silly’s meeting the other silly’s)
@chaosfantasmic
Link and Ayla were usually never out and about, but when they were- umi always made sure they were prepared for any situation before letting them leave the nest.
“Be safe! Come back in one piece!”
Her voice rang out behind them, her tail swishing nervously behind her.
“We will!”
Ayla assured her, waving goodbye as they stepped under the rocky entrance.
‘Mama worry too much.’
Link signed, smiling smugly.
“It’s all in good nature, she just cares about us, and you know it!”
Ayla jabbed links shoulder with her pointer finger, laughing under her breath.
‘Mama say you learn new spell?’
Link signed curiously, tilting his head to the side.
“I did! It’s an illusion spell, i have to focus on what i want the people around to see, and they do!”
Ayla proudly explained, holding her hands in front of her to show a star pattern floating in her hands, and a flower began to sprout from her hand. Link blinked and once he opened his eyes it was gone in an instant.
“See? Cool right! Currently i can only hold it for a few seconds, but i betcha i can get so good at it- i could hold it for an hour! And make illusions of even bigger things!”
Ayla smiled with pride, excitement clear in her voice. Link smiled encouragingly, nodding along. They had walked in comforting silence for awhile, finally seeing the first bits of castle town come into view.
‘Almost sun-down, think they have strawberries?’
Link asked, furrowing his brows, contemplating his own question.
“Ehhh probably not,  you forget it’s winter now, no one’s gonna have any fruit.”
Ayla sighed, rolling her eyes. Link scowled playfully, blowing a raspberry at ayla. She just rolled her eyes too. The sound of shouts and clanging metal both brought their attention off of each other. They looked to the direction of the sound, link was rushing over in an instant, shifting to his hylian form because it was most likely hylians that were there. And link was correct, two snaikz were circling a group of 9 males, varying in age but were all blonde- so most likely family. Ayla lept first, using her dagger to stab the snaikz in its head. It thrashed, black blood oozing from its wound- That couldn’t be good. Link charged the snaikz Ayla was, the blondes fighting the other one.
“Aim for the top of the head! These aren’t normal snaikz they are harder, but they are still weak there!”
She yelled out, using a starry spear to jab into the snaikz head once more. The spear dissipated into shooting stars,  but still left the mark of a real spear. Link used his sword to slash at the snaikz neck and head. The blondes were shouting to eachother, but with strange accents that seemed to barely translate to basic hylian. Once the snaikz were down, they all regrouped.
“Thank you, we would’ve been screwed back there had you not shown up.”
The oldest spoke up, i managed to translate it to hylian, but his accent was thick- still making it hard to interpret.
‘Not our hylain, not languages i know.’
Link signed to Ayla, who nodded in acknowledgment.
“Who are you? Do you know hylian sign?”
Ayla tilted her head as she questioned the group, the teen with crazy scars perked up first, nodding his head.
‘I know hylian sign, easier use.’
He stepped closer, signing confidently, wherever he was from, his sign was the same as ours- but his accent was definitely foreign.
‘From far away, need to go to castle town.’
He smiled sheepishly, signing slowly with embarrassment.
“Oh! Castle town is just 20 minutes away, we were heading there actually so we can take ya. Let’s go! Me and link here can happily drop ya off.”
Once Ayla had called me ‘link’ the group was stiff, and shocked. Which was expected, technically we did save hyrule- and helped all races despite our kinds not speaking much.
“Oh! Thank you, we would appreciate that.”
The eldest spoke again, smiling kindly.
“We should introduce ourselves, I’m time.”
The now dubbed ‘time’ added, following us as we walked.
“I’m wind! This is wild, he can’t speak verbally due to scars.”
Wind spoke up next, the youngest. ‘Wild’ smiled shyly, hiding in his hood. I got that, hiding in a piece of fabric was somewhat comforting in new places. This hylian form was really starting to itch… they never stuck around this long… i had accidentally spaced out during their introductions, but kept walking. The more i walked, the more my tail wanted to swish behind me, my horns wanted nothing more than to feel fresh air again- instead of causing a headache. I tapped ayla, getting her attention.
‘Form, itchy’
I frowned deeply, looking like i was gonna cry. She turned her head back, then to me.
‘Do it, if they have an issue I’ll take care of it.’
She signed confidently, smiling enthusiastically at me. I smiled shyly, and shifted forms. It took them all off guard, not used to seeing a draconic right in front of them probably. They didn’t say anything, maybe because they saw Aylas glare, or they knew they wouldn’t have an escort, or maybe- they were just being nice. Castle towns gates were in view now, much quieter now- since it was late. All of us apparently needed to go to the inn, so we booked our separate rooms and fell asleep. The next morning, I found wild by a cooking pot,  cooking a meal for his family. Ayla was still asleep, and he was the only other one awake- so it wouldn’t hurt to make small talk. I sat down on the other side of the cooking pot, accidentally staring at his nose far longer for comfort because he started to nervously fiddle with his hands.
‘Sorry! I never properly introduced myself, I’m link- I’m a draconic as you might’ve guessed.’
I signed enthusiastically, properly introducing myself now. He stared wide eyed, but managed to keep his cool.
‘Wild, but you knew that.’
He giggled, holding out a hand for me to shake. I happily took it, feeling his rough skin against mine, he looked really cool.
‘You cooking? I love cooking, Ayla says I’m the best cook in our tribe.’
I smiled proudly, puffing out my chest. Wild smiled widely.
‘You can cook? My brothers cannot cook for the life of them. Burn water and anything they touch.’
He scowled playfully, cringing at the memories he was probably reliving. I barked out a laugh, showing off my sharp canines while doing so.
‘So you’re draconic? I’ve never met one before’
He asked curiously, taking in my appearance. I grinned, holding my hands up to sign.
‘Yes, I’m a draconic. Ayla is hylian, but we are siblings by soul because of our birth marks! We adopted her, so she is draconic too! Just not physically. Since she doesn’t have dragon features or perks.’
I sighed, i wished everyday that Ayla could be draconic too, it’d make things easier. Wild nodded, blowing out the flames which meant he had finished his food.
‘I’ll go make me and Ayla food, you lot have a good morning!’
I waved my goodbyes, but before i could leave wild caught my eye.
‘Where ya heading?’
He asked, tilting his head.
‘Just around, shopping. Heading home to faron at the end of the day, mama will throw a fit.’
I snorted, waving goodbye for real this time, making food for me and Ayla, and going to the first shop. We went around, checking through our list and waving to old friends from our journey.  We had stopped at the produce market, when someone tapped my shoulder. I turned around and saw a guy in his mid twenties glaring at me. Ayla was still looking at the different produce, so she didn’t notice him.
‘What can i help you with?’
I signed carefully, i knew hylians were different with emotions and opinions.
“Your kind shouldn’t be here. Go back to faron and never come back.”
He spat, crossing his arms and scowling. I didn’t know how to reply, so i nudged Ayla to get her attention. She perked up, looked at the guy scowling and understood.
“Go the fuck away.”
She deadpanned, standing protectively in front of me.
“The fuck did you just say to me freak?”
He gasped, getting angrier. I knew this would get unnecessary attention on us, and the market started sounding louder, every noise grating on my nerves.
“Did i mumble? Go. The fuck. Away.”
She repeated, jabbing her finger in his chest after every word. He huffed, and shoved Ayla off- roughly. She yelped in surprise, hitting the corner of a sharp basket, she was hurt. Ayla was hurt. I growled, turned to the guy and pounced. I punched him hard, Ayla regained her composure and dragged me off.
“Link!! Quit!”
She cried, concerned with the amount of stared we were getting. I heard a familiar voice, it was time.
“Are you alright?”
I hadn’t realized he was talking to me til Ayla replied for me.
“We’re ok, he isn’t..”
She glared at the man, bleeding from both nostrils.
“Crazy! He’s fucking crazy!”
He cowered, backing away before dashing off. I huffed, growling in his direction. A familiar scarred hand came into view, wild. I gladly took it- smiling gratefully, watching him return a smile.
‘You ok?’
He signed, furrowing his brows. I nodded, turning to Ayla who was talking to time and warriors? I think his name was. They had apparently been trying to find us, for some reason- but i trusted them, they had no reason to be rude. They asked to talk outside the town, we complied- if they did try something we could easily take them down. We sat down in a mossy clearing, a stream trickling by.
“What? You’ve been strange since we met!”
Ayla eyed the group, scowling slightly. I mocked her expression, scowling at the group, trying to look intimidating.
“We Uhm, we’ll there is no easy way to say this but we are all links- across time that is, we are all from different eras and something has been rounding us together the past year, for a quest.”
Time explained, sky had at some point taken out a strange sword, one that they had only heard about in fairy tales murmured by hylians.
“What’s that? The sword looks highly pristine…”
Ayla murmured, reaching out to touch it. Sky retracted it quickly, shocked expressions all around.
“What?”
Ayla sat confused, frowning deeply.
“You don’t know of the master sword?”
Sky asked, confused and shocked.
“Isn’t that part of a Hylian tale?”
Ayla whispered to me, i shrugged. Their jaws seemed to hang open, wild kept his gaze under control, still surprised none the less.
“Look, links- link isn’t going anywhere, he may have been defined a hero by the people, but hylia or who ever she is- didn’t pick him?”
Ayla firmly spoke, i nodded silently- huffing for good measure.
“The thing is- none of us have a choice, if you try and refuse a portal will take you anyway. I’m sorry.”
Warriors added, his ears drooped with sincerity. I nodded, looking to Ayla whose face dropped.
“What..? You can’t take him!”
She started to raise her voice, worry creeping onto her face. I held her shoulder firmly, she turned to me, eyes glazed over. I tugged her into a hug, letting a few tears stream down my face. We held each other for a few moments, looking back to the links.
“We always circle back to our own hyrules, it will not be a permanent goodbye.”
Legend reassured, crossing his arms.
Ayla nodded hesitantly, standing up abruptly.
“Fine. But link is saying good bye to mama first.”
She dragged me upwards, already running towards faron. I ran after her, ushering the group to follow, and they did. Faron wasn’t too far, we ran for a little, then jogged, and finally walked.
The group walked slower, their stamina was okay for a group of heroes. The familiar rock formation came into view, and i didn’t know how much it felt good to be home. Umi was in our home, familiar purple smoke billowed from the chimney. We burst inside, the links respectfully stayed outside the home, thankfully. Umi was in her chair- sewing something.
“Oh hello! Welcome back my pine trees!”
She set her project aside, standing up to tackle us into a hug. My tail swished happily behind me, Ayla embraced mama tightly.
“Mama, link has to leave soon, the goddess wants him for a quest we can’t refuse.”
She pulled apart, staring Umi in the eyes with regret and sadness. It made me sad just looking at her. Mama had to take it all in, finally registered it and turned to me, her face dropped too.
“..why..? The goddess shouldn’t want anything with you! It’s that forsaken mark isn’t it! The goddesses just can’t leave anything alone! Chione above!!! Link I’m going to pack your bag, you will be safe and I’m going to make sure that-“
She paused, then turned back to me.
“Wait.. are you going ALONE?!”
She screeched, shaking my shoulders.
‘No no no! Group, heroes come with. Heroes Across time.’
I signed urgently, watching her eyes blow wider.
“Heroes?! There are more? I must speak with them! Where are they??”
She scowled, ayla pointed outside, cringing when her pupils went to slits and her stomps were heard going outside. I scrambled after her, seeing this 4’11 lady pointing angrily at a 6’2 guy with tattoos on his face was a sight to see. Time nervously kept backing away, mama would slip into draconic language and swear a few times.
‘Mama! They didn’t do anything! They didn’t have a choice either!’
I furrowed my brows worriedly, trying to drag her away from the hero of time. He sighed thankfully, watching us exchange words through draconic sign, before she turned to time again- who flinched, i could see legend and warriors snickering at his reaction. I huffed, behind my back i did a spell and tugged the two heroes backwards- and the toppled on top of each other. Mama talked to time about something that involved me- while the rest laughed at warriors and legend. Ayla trudged outside, leaning on the door frame, scowling at the group. I gave her a sympathetic look, which she returned. Once Umi had finished, she went back inside, this time inviting the heroes inside. The living room was big enough to fit all 9 heroes comfortably, Ayla, me, and mama were making me pack everything with them- well aware of my forgetful tendencies. Once finished, mama made some traditional pine cone tea, giving it to those who wanted it. We talked about what would be happening, Umi and the heroes talking about what they’ve been doing- and how wild was their cook.
“Only one of you can cook?! Agni’s tits!!!! Thank perun link can cook and bake.”
Ayla nudged me, still shocked at this group of heroes. They awkwardly laughed, wild laughing harder than any of them. They were a little confused on our use of swearing, maybe they didn’t have 4 dragons in their times.
“Usually we leave the sunset after we recruit the link, so we can wait outside to give you alone time- thank you Umi for the tea it was wonderful.”
Time formally thanked my mama, shaking her hand lightly. Mama smiled bashfully, waving him off. They all left, and we sat in a cuddle pile for a few minutes, taking in each others presence before we couldn’t for awhile. Once i heard twilight shout in surprise, i knew- it was time. I got up, hugging Ayla and Umi one last time tightly, and jogging outside.
“Portal!”
Four shouted, stepping through with hyrule. They all stepped through, except for time and wild.
‘You go with me, help if split away.’
He signed, locking our elbows together and stepping through slowly.
~~~~~~~~~~
they do the whole nick name thing after the portal, since it was hella chaotic to do it before the portal 💀 his hero name is hero of elements
