who’s traumatized child is this? Mine now!
[chapter 3]
The next few weeks were- uneventful to say the least, unless you count wind getting into shenanigans with hyrule trying to keep it tame. During the first week- I’d managed to talk to four one weekend, finding him downstairs reading a book. I’d stood there for a little, trying to figure out how to get his attention, without interrupting his reading.
“You’ve been standing awhile, what’s up?” His voice broke me out of my thoughts, back to him. His gaze was on me, smiling but with a raised brow to look at me curiously. I shuffled through the signs I’d need to say what i wanted to say, and thank goodness four was patient.
Read the rest on Ao3!

Language Barriers!
Personally I don’t think enough people recognize the possibilities behind the chain having to work through language barriers. They’re from different times. Languages evolve over time. (I have read a couple good fics that explore some of the possibilities of the chain having to deal with language differences, but I don’t remember their names, or the authors of them…)
Now of course, many of them might not have too many differences in their languages, or have a way to easily translate. Either because they’re not too far apart in the timeline, or they have their history well documented.
But where, you might be asking, does that leave Wild? The answer is completely unable to understand the chain or be understood by the chain. Wild is, what, canonically more than 10,000 years in the future from the last known hero if I remember correctly? So with all the language changes, and so much history being lost to the calamity and then possibly further with the upheaval, (although that revealed the history of the zonai so maybe not…) how difficult will it be for Wild to be understood by the chain? My guess is very difficult.
So we’ve got all the other Links who, once they’ve been on this adventure together for a little while, have most of their language barriers worked out and can communicate pretty clearly. Then they arrive in a hyrule that’s in ruins and consumed by beautiful nature as far as the eye can see. And it’s so far in the future and so much history was lost that they’ve basically gotta play charades to get beds at a stable.
Now one of the fics I read had the hilarity of this issue eventually resolved by having Wild know really ancient sheikah. I don’t remember the fic or the author but I remember that much about it and it was a really fun solution!
I’m not saying everyone should utilize language barriers between the chain, I’m just saying that there’s a lot of possibilities it opens up if someone chooses to utilize it and I don’t see it very often
#lu chain#lu wild#language barrier#the potential for shenanigans is vast#the potential for angst with this exists too i’m sure#consider the hilarity of some of the links teaching the rest of the chain swears in their eras language#also wild using this adventure as an opportunity to regain all the history their world has lost#legend of zelda#linked universe#they’re my silly little guys#oh and not to mention the difference in sign language between the eras#lets not forget to include that

LU HCs since everyone is doing that today
Time
Likes drawing but rarely does it infront of others since it looks like a 6 year old did it. Malon has hung some of his drawings in their room.
Wars also has some from the war!
Has a speech impedent, but not very noticeable now since he has it mostly under control.
Can read but isn't that good at it. Tries to hide it since he finds it emberassing.
Honestly better at reading Warriors' Hylian than his own (Wars, Artemis, and Impa taught him)
Would be a vegan if he could.
Loves sugar. His teeth were bad before Malon got his diet under control.
Believes in superstituions and hates ghost stories since they always keep him up at night.
Counts everything in threes.
Warriors
He and Linkle are twins. Linkle is older by like, 2 seconds.
Grew up in a form, still hates cuckoos.
LET HIM HAVE BROWN, NOT STRAIGHT HAIR!
Biromantic Asexual.
Really wants to show off all his weird weapons but had never gotten the chance to.
Claustrophobic.
Almost lost his voice due to a cut Via made on his neck. When it hurts he just used sign.
Makeup queen.
Legend
Gay. Married to Ravio.
Prince. Zelda is older than him by a few years.
Has a VERY posh accent that he hides. Got bullied for it for 3 days straight when they found out.
Knows way too many instruments.
Lived with his uncle because of assasination and kidnapping attempts.
Loves dancing but never had time to do it.
Knows how to speak Hylian (duh), Labrynnian/Holodrummien(?), Lorulen, and Hytopian.
Knows how to read ancient Hylian (Time's language).
Loves messing with the others with his items.
Wild
Half Sheikah (mum Sheikah dad Hylian).
Roots are white NOT because he is Sheikah, but because they naturally lost their melanin (I think that's what it's called) when in the shrine.
Dyed hair.
Hates being underwater.
Really wishes he had some of the items the others had.
Can still summon the sages at will, but doesn't want to scare the others.
Even more scars from gloom damage.
Pansexual.
History and cooking teacher at the school in Hateno. Has lessons later in the day for any adults or travelers that want to learn.
May make more for the others, but we'll see...

Thinking about reimagination, these are LU's reimagination tropes:
1-Everyone uses their Game Hero Title as nicknames. Canonically, they use the normal things people use to nickname each other: professions, features and place of origin.
2-AoL being a shy guy. Canonically, this Link will make jabs at Time. He is bold and in-game, he talks with every random person he meets.
3-Legend and Fable are siblings and have a telepathic connection. In-game, Zelda's message was forwarded to everyone that could listen, which included Link's uncle. The maidens recognize Link as one from the Knight's clan without commenting on any other secret bloodline.
4-Sky having asthma. Great reimagination, really loved those fics. Keep them coming. Thanks.
5-Sky breathing easier on Skyloft than the surface. I mean, magic could potentially make Skyloft's altitude not be an issue, but whenever people put forward that's low altitude itself which has Sky winded I raise my eyebrow. That's not how it works. Make it magic, please.
6-Legend has purple eyes. The brother of Fable x Legend are siblings reimagination. Every official artwork has him with blue eyes.
7- Wild is mute and uses sign language to communicate. In-game Link is a confident guy that does puns and insults enemies.
8-Wind is a crybaby and acts like a nine year old.

20 questions for fic writers
I was tagged by a couple of people and I can't remember who, but thank you guys!!!
1. How many works do you have on A03?
18
2. What's your total A03 word count?
165,660 and 140k of that is from just this year!
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Legend of Zelda and Linked Universe, although I do have one Ao No Exorcist/Blue Exorcist manga fic that isn't finished yet and I plan to finish at some point. I have a Sonic the Hedgehog AU too but that isn't published and is only for me.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
Recharge
For the Want of a Breath (surprised this one is so high on the list)
Hyrule and Wild Have a Hard Time (My personal Fave)
LU Whump Dump
Secret of the Sea Cave (Beats out Yukio Turn on the Light by 1 kudos)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Most of them yes. I tend to save up comments and answer like 20 of them in a day to save time/energy.
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
That's gotta be Yukio Turn on the Light for sure (it's a story about a suicidal boy being talked back from the brink by his dead dad in order to prevent Satan from taking over the world), although Ghost Story will have a very angsty ending too (story about nine ghosts that need help making peace with their regrets so they can pass into the afterlife).
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Mmmm... that would be my FMA:B fic Actually I'm Not Sorry which is an epilogue to the manga/anime
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not really hate but I've gotten a couple critical comments here or there. On Recharge I've gotten quite a few "Where's the rest of this fic? Hurry up and write it B(&%^" or variations of that. That's why I abandoned it.
9. Do you write smut?
🤢🤮oh heck no
10. Do you write crossovers?
Never. I don't like the foods on my plate to touch so to speak.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of. I probably wouldn't know if it was.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No, but I've podficed one.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No. When I was a kid I used to co-write original stories with my sister though.
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
Merthur (Arthur and Merlin from the Merlin TV show). Also Sam & Jack from Stargate SG1
15. What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
The Sign of the Wolf is an unpublished hibernating WIP that is a long and meandering story about a depressed post LU Wild making peace with the loss of his 8 brothers after their adventure together ended. The main premise is that each of the other Links hid care packages around his Hyrule and Wild has to go on a scavenger hunt to find them.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Dialogue comes easily to me and characterizations as long as I can figure out what makes each character think.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Dialogue tags are annoying. So are boring scenes and transition scenes. And I'm terrible about knowing what things to shorten/cut out of the story.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
Uhhh I have no thoughts? This hasn't really come up much except for sign language.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Well if you count my very first story ever I wrote at age 9 which was a Lord of the Rings superhero AU, then LotR. Otherwise, it was Sonic the Hedgehog.
20. Favourite fic you've ever written?
I gotta say: Skulltula and Thunder.

also nope! never have and never will. not my thing

17. What are your writing weaknesses?
i can get ramble-ly and confusing sometimes and put in more detail than necessary XD the tolkien curse
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
i usually just go for italics and/or a difference in quotation marks, usually for sign language. 'like this'
19. First fandom you wrote for?
ooh that would be percy jackson back in the ffn days!! times were wild XD
20. Favorite fic you've ever written?
i cant decide lol but top three (not necessarily in this order) are:
if atlas falls (bnha- a charater study on todoroki fuyumi and how she held up the world for her brothers).
that's all it is (lu- sky is dead as a result of demise's curse and his ghost has a chat with time)
devil talkin on both shoulders (link is above but its lu: twilight struggles with self-worth and legend is there to smack some sense into him)
thanks for pulling me into this @somer-writes! it was a lot of fun!! and nostalgic :D
20 questions for fic writers
Tagged by @the-real-azalea-scroggs! Had to wait until I was of my phone because doing these is a nightmare on mobile lmao
1. How many works do you have on A03?
18 as of a few days ago!
2. What's your total A03 word count?
60,763! Which is. Only a fraction of the word count in my Docs folder. Be prepared.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
I mainly write for The Legend of Zelda; specifically Linked Universe! In fact, that's all that's posted on my Ao3 currently, since my fall into that fandom began with me uploading there! Pre-Ao3 I wrote for Black Cat (Anime/Manga), Megaman NT Warrior, various Pokémon things, Assassin's Creed, Yugioh, Final Fantasy XIV and Octopath Traveler! Some of these I still write privately, but I haven't gotten around to re-posting any.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
Whistling on Deaf Ears - My longest fic on Ao3, focusing on Wild and Twilight's friendship and how good intentions can lead to disaster.
Iconoclasm - Warriors deals with the room full of portraits in Cia's palace. The Chain also deals with it, but with a bit more fire.
Deserving - Twilight finally tells Rusl that he was the wolf in the village during TP, but that also means dealing with some heavier topics. Colin half overhears them and forms his own conclusions.
Something Greater - The start of the "Hyrule can see magical auras" series! In this one we deal with Legend and his many rings.
Ocean Magic - Mermaid Legend and Zora Time have a race and then fight one of the Big Octos from WW! Fun times.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Every single one!! I love comments, they give me an excuse to ramble about my fic more!! I am always down to ramble about every single insignificant detail of any line and/or section. If you ever want more background info about one of my fics, look to the comments! So please, I adore comments, I treat them like treasures, not responding to them would be a CRIME.
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
There's no contest; Inevitable, my (so far) only MCD fic.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Hmmm, that's hard to quantify. I usually try to end fics on a hopeful note regardless. I'd say possibly either Deserving, where Twilight reconnects with his family, or Shimmering Blue, Striking White, where Time meets the Fierce Deity settled down on Satori Mountain and they both get closure.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Thankfully, no! I've been blessed with mostly amazing and patient readers, even when my upload schedule isn't the best.
9. Do you write smut?
No, not really. I've attempted it, but I'm too asexual for it lol
10. Do you write crossovers?
Very, very rarely. Mostly privately, and only very specific ones. Only a single one has had an actual plot, so far (more on that one in question 15!).
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Nope!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Also a nope! I tend to write for smaller fandoms, where these things don't tend to happen a lot!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I have! But it's been a while. Over a decade, in fact! I tried to find the fic to link it here, but it was on the German fanfic website fanfiktion.de, and my friend who posted it back then must have deactivated her account, because it's nowhere to be seen (I still have the Word file though!). It was a Multi-Crossover that started as an RP in a forum, and we took turns turning the RP into prose one chapter each. "If a Hero Turns to Dark" was its title. We were edgy teenagers.
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
Hissssss. Bad question. Shoo. They are all equally important!! But it's probably TenRose from Doctor Who.
15. What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
One of the very few crossovers I've ever worked on; a crossover fic between Assassin's Creed and Doctor Who, that I have mapped out in both chronological and timeline order, and yes, those are different. I only ever wrote about a quarter of it, since my primary audience of it disappeared when we graduated. I doubt I'll ever pick it back up properly, and if I do it'll probably go through heavy rewrites first since it's so old. Finishing it is a nice thought, but realistically, after 9 years it'll never be high priority enough for it to actually happen.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Dialogue, especially arguments, and emotional impact. I've been told I do really well making characters feel alive and believable! Also I like to believe I'm decent at setting a scene and giving it the vibe I want it to have!
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I struggle with dialogue tags when nothing much is happening besides the talking. I always feel it's too bland, and fall back on the same phrases. My scene transitions could use some work too.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I've done this with Japanese phrases, because I was a massive weeb. Usually I followed them up with their own translations, though; I'm not the biggest fan of footnote translations, unless they are properly linked to. Simple dialogue tags are my favourite way of indicating a language switch.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Black Cat the Manga/Anime! It's a series about an assassin turned bounty hunter trying to live a life separate from his murdery past, but getting dragged back into things by still wanting to avenge his best friend's death. The series has a special place in my heart and my bookshelf, it left an imprint on 13-year-old me that will never leave.
20. Favourite fic you've ever written?
Probably Jailbreak, uncharacteristically enough! It's one of the only fics I never got stuck in once. Writing it was a great feeling from start to finish. I love writing all of my fics, but that was a special few days.
Tagging @ahrva @nowhere-to-go-but-down @silvercaptain24 and @aeghina! And anyone who wants to do it, really, go wild

it's really interesting to me when people write Wild being one of the few if not the only Link to use sign language and him feeling alienated because of it...when i feel one of the things that connects all the Links to one another the most besides the whole chosen hero thing is mutism
#ty talks#of course i get that botw is one of the only games to actually adress links selective mutism#but Link is also the pinnacle of the silent protag he always has been#i think it's interesting when people write about the chain struggling to communicate through different accents or dialects#and i like when this applies to sign language as well#but when people imply that some links just straight up don't use sign language and just talk / think wild is odd for only using sign#im just like ?!?!?!?!?#like idk it just feels weird bc links are literally the people who would understand mutism the most#of course this also just has to do with jojos interpretations of the links and how they just tend to speak out loud within the lu comic#and i think that exclusively around eachother they do speak out loud more than they ever would with other people#but in my mind the chain all have varying levels of selective mutism and its not something they would ever judge Wild for#or ever feel like uneasy or off put by the lack of verbal communication#this thought came to mind while i was looking for fic lol#anyway feel free to leave your thoughts in the replies or in my ask box i love discussing headcanons and stuff with people

The Hylian written languages are a mess, man. But it’s nice seeing how they vary and how that’d affect how the Links communicate. I thought it’d be fun to share this since apparently written Hylian isn’t like, common knowledge in the fandom. Might be useful for art or the alike maybe? not sure
(really long post so. under a read more it goes! TL;DR of what’s in here: talking about and showing the written Hylian in almost all Zelda games, similarities between some, brief appearances in other games, and what writing system each Link would use according to all of this (basing it on the LU AU’s Links, but it could apply to any other Zelda AU out there), plus me trying to Connect The Dots™)
Written Hylian jumps from English-based to Japanese-based then back and forth, so in theory they could also sound completely different between each other, but that’s another issue.
Anyways, here’s a totally-not-messy timeline of the games with their respective written languages (note: when i say english or japanese, i mean english/japanese-based Hylian, except in Link’s Awakening where it’s literally just those languages)
for convenience i’m gonna show and kind of explain each Hylian here really quick
First off, “English 1″, or the Skyward Sword Ancient Hylian alphabet
The first one chronologically. The start of a language-evolution nightmare. Anything you find in SS with this can be translated to English simply by replacing them with the latin alphabet.
Then we have “Japanese 1″, or the most common Hylian syllabary (syllable-based language) across the games
For some reason, Hyrule decided to switch to a syllable-based writing system all of a sudden and everyone said ok. With this one you can translate anything in Minish Cap, Four Swords/Four Swords Adventures, Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks to japanese. It can be a bit difficult because of a lack of distinctions japanese has (double consonants and half-sized syllables for example) but it can be done.
(As a fun note, this one can be found in Ocarina of Time 3D in the carpet of the Temple of Time, and in Square Signs! And also in Twilight Princess, in some of Kakariko’s Gravestones)
Then we have “Japanese 2″, in Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask.
Alright still syllable-based. That’s cool. Though this one’s way more square-ish than the last one, and it’s missing some syllables, so it complicates translations. The missing syllables are the ones with the variation marks “Japanese 1″ had. So, for example, in this syllabary, “ha/ba/pa” are the same symbol.
Going by the Fallen Timeline first, in A Link to the Past we’re shown a variant of Hylian that is referred to as “Mudoran”... which is gibberish, basically.
As far as I know, there’s no visible Hylian or other in the Oracles games, but we can assume they’d speak/write whatever language Labrynna and Holodrum have.
Link’s Awakening seems to just... have English and Japanese. At the same time.
In A Link Between Worlds and Tri Force Heroes, we’re introduced to a new alphabet, “English 2″, which is also used in Breath of the Wild and Age of Calamity, often called “Modern Hylian”.
It’s really similar to Skyward Sword’s Hylian, to the point of sharing many of its characters... except they’re all mixed up and/or slightly modified.
Here’s a messy comparison between the two for funsies. You can technically crossread between the two but it won’t make sense for the most part. The only word i’ve found that’s the same in both is “NO”
In Zelda I and II there’s no written language to be seen like, anywhere because of the game’s limitations. While we’re at it, Hyrule Warriors doesn’t show any distinct Hylian either.
So! Child timeline! Termina uses the same “Japanese 2″ syllabary as OoT. That one’s easy.
Twilight Princess introduces a new alphabet, “English 3″, that’s the most similar to the latin alphabet out of the others.
TP’s many signs with this alphabet though seem to use it with English, Japanese, and/or gibberish. It really depends on where it’s being used. Most one or two word signs base it off english.
Also, this alphabet can be found in... Skyward Sword! Yeah, all the way back there. You can find it in the Sealed Temple and the Sky Keep (though it’s gibberish), as well as on one of the game’s covers:
Then Four Swords Adventures, and all the games in the adult timeline (Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass, and Spirit Tracks) use “Japanese 1″.
So. What does this mean for the Links, you might ask? After that stupidly long exposition text wall, I can finally go to that.
i’m basing these on the Linked Universe AU’s Links, but the info above could be used for the Links in any other Zelda AUs. For people unfamiliar with the AU, “Hyrule” here is the Zelda I/II Link, and “Warriors” is the Hyrule Warriors Link. “Legend” covers all the other games in the Fallen Hero Timeline, and “Four” is the Four Swords and Minish Cap’s Links. The rest I think are more obvious.
Sky uses “English 1″. He could, in theory, see Twilight’s Hylian and have the vaguest feeling of knowing it, but since it was on the doors of the Sealed Temple i’m not sure.
Four and Wind use “Japanese 1″.
Time uses “Japanese 2″. Like Sky, he could potentially see Four and Wind’s Hylian and think he’s seen it before, but since it was just on the carpet I don’t think he’d have paid much attention to it.
Legend and Wild use “English 2″.
Also besides “English 2″, Legend also knows Mudoran, English, Japanese, and Labrynna’s and Holodrum’s languages. Multilingual king.
Twilight uses “English 3″, and if he ever paid attention to the gravestones in Kakariko Village, might recognize Four and Wind’s Hylian too.
Warriors could use any of these tbh, considering the mess his game is.
I have no idea what Hyrule could use either. Probably English 2 like Legend? Something else entirely?
Sky, Legend and Wild look at each other’s writing like “oh that looks familiar :)” but when they try to read it it makes absolutely No Sense.
I’m pretty sure I had more points to this when I started this post but I seem to have forgotten about them and i’ve already spent maybe 6 hours on this.
Conclusion: Written communication isn’t really a viable option for the Links unless they teach each other their respective writing systems. Chaos ensues.
Bonus! Both “Link” and their nicknames in each of their writing systems (using “English 2″ for Wars and Hyrule as placeholders)

Febuwhump Dump 4
The finale!!!! I really enjoyed writing this one for some reason. Thank you all for your kind comments and enthusiasm, it really means so much to me!
This isn’t the end for me, though. Keep an eye out, I’ll try to post more LU stuff on here and ao3 more regularly. I liked this monthly prompt thing, it kept my mind occupied.
Under the cut, or on ao3, we have our last fic ft. Legend and Four as our main focus, with a side of Hyrule as well. Read below if you want comedy and angst!
Restrained/ “Don’t leave!”/ Too Weak to Move/ Muffled Screams/ “Please don’t do this”/ Buried Alive/ Presumed Dead
Excerpt:
“What the hell kind of cave is this?” Wind sighed in exasperation with dramatic arms flopping to his sides and head tossing back.
“I’ve lost count how many wizzrobes and wallmasters we’ve fought,” Warriors said between breaths.
“Yeah,” Four chimed in from his place on the cave floor where he had collapsed moments ago. “And those weird flying things…what were they called? Mouse?”
“Mau’s,” Hyrule provided in a patient tone. He was crouched next to Wild who had taken a Mau straight to the face.

“Persistent fuckers,” Wild growled and winced when Hyrule dabbed his temple with a potion-soaked cloth.
“Language,” Time chided half-heartedly from across the cavern. Wild simply rolled his eyes in response.
“It’s like a cave of ordeals,” Twilight hummed thoughtfully on Wild’s other side. On top of all the other familiar monsters that they had faced since being dumped in a cave in Hyrule’s era, strange nuisances unknown to the others had harassed them in large numbers. Bits and Bots flung themselves at the battle-worn Chain, Boons rained rocks from above and Moa’s whizzed around them in the darkness.
Legend crossed his arms at the thought. “Which means it’s only going to get worse.”
“But that also means it will have something really amazing waiting for us at the end, right?” Sky tried for an up-beat tone, but his enthusiasm was not resonating with his teammates.
As if on cue, the entire ground shook, with dust and small rocks falling from the cave ceiling accompanied by a low growl echoing from somewhere deep in the labyrinth.
The group froze as deafening silence enveloped them once more and they exchanged glances with wide eyes. After a beat of heavy anticipation, another rumble shook the ground.
“You were saying?” Legend grumbled at Sky, who laughed nervously.
Time straightened from leaning against the wall and hoisted his sword back into his grasp. “We need to keep moving.”
With labored groans, they all got to their feet and trudged on through the cave.
The tunnels were endless and there seemed like no way out, all sense of direction having been lost hours ago. A singular torch carried among them offered little light and it seemed like the darkness was pressing in on them, almost suffocating. Sky was certainly taking it worse than the others, picking nervously at his nails or fidgeting with his sail cloth. His face never showed distress, but the others knew him well enough to see the signs.
~*~
Hours passed and oddly enough, fewer monsters appeared along the tunnels. They were replaced instead by the occasional rumble of whatever was shaking the caves and growling.
“I think this grumbly thing is scaring away all the monsters,” Four ventured to guess when it had been a solid hour since they encountered a monster.
“That’s not nice to say about Legend,” Warriors quipped with feigned concern on his face which earned him a sharp jab to the ribs with Legend’s elbow.
“It’s your stinky feet that’s scaring them, pretty boy,” Legend retorted, glad that the darkness was hiding a grin that was fighting to pull at his lips.
Warriors made a show of gasping and putting his hands on his hips. “I’ll have you know my feet smell amazing, thank you very much.”
“Ha! Your socks are practically hazardous waste at this point,” Legend said matter-of-factly.
Time stopped dead in his tracks at the front of the group and everyone halted as he held up a hand. “Boys,” he barked.
“What?” Warriors huffed. “He started it.”
“Okay, in what universe is that even remotely true-”
“Listen,” Time hissed and glared at the two squabbling heroes. Everyone tilted their heads and concentrated. Sure enough, the growling had gotten louder and the rumbling occurred with less time in between.
Suddenly a roar that sounded way too close for comfort bounced down the winding tunnel they had just come from.
Hyrule shrank at the sound as if he knew what the roar belonged to. “Run.”
Nine pairs of feet broke into a sprint in an instant, almost too late as a ball of flame hurled down the narrow tunnel and crashed into the wall next to where they had just been standing.
“Look!” Wind cried as they emerged into a very spacious opening. On the other end of the vast cavern was a tunnel stretching almost infinitely straight, save for the small speck of daylight peeking through the thick shadows.
Hope soared through the Chain for a brief moment only to be crushed when a roar signaled that their pursuer had caught up with them. They turned and watched with a mixture of disbelief and horror as not one, not two or three, but four massive dragon heads attached to one giant scaled body snaked out of the tunnel before them. Noxious fumes seeped through bared fangs and four sets of blood red eyes locked onto the band of heroes.
“Is…” Wind gasped but couldn’t bear to finish his thought.
Legend swallowed thickly, feeling dwarfed by the looming creature. “That’s a-”
“Gleeok…” Hyrule confirmed with solemn certainty.
“Think we can take it?” Wild asked in a hushed voice.
Warriors shook his head. “In any other circumstance, I’d say we could…but…”
The Captain didn’t need to finish his sentence because they were all thinking it. They had spent Hylia knows how many hours hacking through endless barrages of monsters. Each of them had sustained some pretty bad injuries and several of the Chain were struggling to simply stay standing on fatigued and trembling legs. Fighting a gargantuan beast that was probably souped-up with black blood was out of the question.
The Gleeok’s four heads bobbed as it sized up its prey.
“But if we run down that tunnel, we’ll get fried,” Sky warned.
Shields rose in defense as the Gleeok suddenly flexed its bat-like wings that nearly spanned the width of the vast cavern. A head coiled back and fire ignited deep in its throat and instead of aiming at the miniscule figures before it, the head shot a fire ball at the ceiling of the cavern.
Stalactites broke loose from above with a symphony of cracks and began crashing to the ground around them. “Just go!” Legend cried. The group dared to turn their backs on the beast and bolt to the tunnel leading to their freedom. They dodged falling boulders as the Gleeok continued to fire into the ceiling.
The ground shook beneath their feet and sweat rolled down Legend’s face as he side-stepped a stalactite as big as him. Hyrule, who was several paces in front of him, just barely avoided a boulder from landing on him. The Traveler lost his footing and he scrambled to get back up. Not breaking stride, Legend grabbed Hyrule’s upper arm and dragged him onto his feet. He didn’t let go. He wasn’t going to lose anyone to this monster. So he dragged his friend beside him, pulling him out of the way of more debris as they approached the tunnel.
Soon, most of the team made it into the tunnel- except for Legend, Hyrule and Four. Rocks began piling around them as they closed the distance. Four’s outstretched hand reached for Twilight who had turned to make sure everyone got through safe. Almost there…
One final fireball struck above the tunnel entrance just as they were about to cross it. Legend barely had time to shield his head before the rocks tumbled around him and the ground shook violently.
Dust fell away and Legend coughed as it filled his lungs. He peered around him to find Four struggling to pick himself up. A sharp cry came from where the mouth of the tunnel should have been.
“Hyrule!” Legend scrambled to his feet to race toward his companion but fell once again as a sharp pain lanced his side indicating that his ribs were broken. He hoped his lungs hadn’t been pierced but he couldn’t tell if the blood in his mouth was from coughing earlier or from rocks that had fallen on his face. With a growl, he muscled through the pain and finally made it to Hyrule’s side.
The Traveler was half buried from the waist down with the fallen boulders that wouldn’t budge when Legend tried to push one off.
“Don’t! Wait!” Hyrule wheezed in panic. “That might make it worse.”
Legend clenched his jaw in frustration, but Hyrule was right. If he pushed one rock out of the way, several more could come tumbling down and crush him completely.
A venomous hiss from behind reminded Legend that, oh right, there was a Gleeok lurking at the far end of the cavern. He hazarded a glance over his shoulder and let out a breath in relief. A boulder the size of a house had fallen between them and the beast, so for now they had cover.
“Legend! Hyrule!” A muffled voice called from beyond the wall of rubble, followed by a grunt and shifting of rock. “Four! Can you hear me?”
It was Twilight. “We’re here!” Legend answered, hoping he was loud enough.
“Are you guys alright?” He heard Sky ask.
“Four and I are okay I think, but ‘Rule…” His eyes swept over his crushed friend with worry. Hyrule’s breathing was quick and shallow and his hand clamped onto Legend’s in a vice grip as he trembled.
“Just hang tight, we’ll try to clear the rocks!”
A blast of fire collided with the house sized boulder behind them and Legend could feel the searing heat from where he sat. “Yeah, ‘hanging tight’ may not be an option!” He was trying to gage how much time they had by drawing on what he knew of Gleeoks when suddenly some stones were already clearing at the top of the pile of rubble. Wind’s face peeked through the opening and took stock of his companions still trapped with the flaming beast. The sailor’s eyes landed on the now motionless Traveler.
“Is he okay?!” Wind cried and fought to clear more rocks.
Legend bit his lip in frustration and shook his head. Hyrule’s grasp had slackened around his hand but he was at least breathing. “We need to hurry!”
A tremendous roar followed by a thunderous stomp of giant feet rattled Legend’s bones. That thing was trying to bring down the whole ceiling to crush them, Legend concluded with a growl, quickening his pace as he carefully but swiftly pulled rocks from on top of Hyrule. Boulders began raining from above once more and he could hear the beast getting closer.
Four looked between the crumbling cavern and his friends, weighing his options.
“What is it, Smith?” Legend panted, glancing at Four briefly while continuing to move rubble.
“I’m going to draw it away!” Four shouted over another ear-splitting shriek.
“Are you crazy?!” Legend stopped his task to grab hold of Four’s arm in protest.
“You need to focus on getting Hyrule out of here alive, don’t worry about me,” Four insisted with determination.
“You’re no match for that thing on your own!” Legend snarled.
A smile fixed itself over Four’s dirt-smudged face and he reached back to wrap a hand around the hilt of his sword. “I think the odds are pretty balanced.”
It took a second, but Legend had seen enough on his journeys to connect the dots. “No,” he breathed. “Four, don’t- let’s just focus on getting out of here alive. All of us.”
Four shook his somber head. “We don’t have time.”
Desperate fingers wrapped tighter around Four’s wrist. “Don’t do this,” Legend begged. “Please, Four, don’t do this.”
“I’ll be fine, trust me.”
Despite the protests, Four pulled himself from his friend’s grasp and turned to position himself behind the large boulder just out of the Gleeok’s line of sight. As a continuous stream of flame blasted insistently against the boulder, Legend watched the silhouette of Four draw his sword. At first, Legend thought his vision was blurring, but as he blinked he saw an identical silhouette of Four step to the side from behind the original- then another, and another.
One of the figures turned their head slightly to look over its shoulder with a defiant toothy grin and winked at Legend before all four dashed away from their cover and charged the beast.
It seemed like forever, but only a few moments passed, punctuated with explosions, beastly shrieks and fire- so much fire. The team in the tunnel had cleared enough rocks for them to fit through and finish extracting Hyrule. Warriors turned to the battle raging on in the cavern.
“Take them to safety,” He ordered to Time, who nodded in agreement. “We’ll get the Smith out of here.”
Legend and Warriors couldn’t see much of the battle now, their vantage point obscured by heaps of fallen rock, but there was an opening plenty wide enough to get them to Four’s side. Before they even moved, though, a Gleeok head flew from the opening and crashed to the ground before disintegrating into black dust.
Legend couldn’t hear any more cries from the Gleeok, which only meant one thing.
Sure enough they heard the rattling of heavy bones and the earth quaked violently all around them. Debris showered relentlessly around them, slowly blocking the path to the fight. Legend looked up and saw skeletal wings stretch above the mountains of rubble, then swipe back down out of view. A moment later, Four- was it Four?- dressed in all blue was flung against a wall of rock by the clearing. He bit back a cry with grit bloodied teeth and hefted his sword stubbornly.
“Four!” Legend called and began running to his aid. The blue-clad Smith glared at him over his shoulder past the falling rocks between them.
“Get him out of here, Captian!” He barked before throwing himself back into the fray.
“No!” Legend followed, but was restrained by Warrior’s strong arm around his middle. He fought the iron grip with all his strength, but the Captian was stronger. “Four! Get out of there!” He strangled a growl of frustration from his throat as he twisted in Warrior’s arm that was now pulling him into the crumbling tunnel. “Let go of me- Four! Four!”
The mouth of the tunnel collapsed in front of his face, followed by an earth-shattering bang and muffled screams from the other side.
~*~
Red gasped in the dust-filled air from his place on the ground and clutched his side. It felt like he had been dipped in lava and he winced when he saw his seared skin practically cooking on his body.
The whole cavern was almost completely filled in, the skeletal Gleeok having been crushed with that last earthquake. The last pockets of empty space were quickly being piled by rocks and time was running out.
“Red!” Green gasped from somewhere behind some rubble.
“He’s here!” Vio called from beside him. A moment later, Green and Blue scrambled over the rocks and made their way to the other two. Each of them had taken some serious damage and as Green shook his head, he confirmed they didn’t have any more healing items at their disposal.
“Damn, you look like shit,” Blue observed through labored breaths. Red couldn’t even respond- his skin stretching from simply taking a breath was agony enough.
“Let’s merge and get out of here,” Vio said.
“But with all our injuries, we’ll…” Green didn’t dare finish.
Vio shook his head. “We’ve merged with worse.” He didn’t know if that was true, but believing it made him feel better.
The final opening that could lead them to the exit closed behind them with a final bang.
“Honestly,” Blue huffed. “At this point, it won’t matter either way.”
~*~
Muscles trembled, from fatigue or from grief, Legend didn’t know. He couldn’t take his eyes off of the now collapsed tunnel as if Four would waltz out of the wreck just fine. A part of him wanted so desperately to believe that his friend would be okay, but ultimately he knew that no one could have survived that. Even if he had, there was no way out now. No way to clear away the tons of rock that was now the tomb of the Hero of the Minish.
He would do it, though. Legend’s fingernails dug into his scalp as another sob wracked his body involuntarily. He would tear down the entire mountainside if it meant finding Four- dead or alive.
Silence that loomed heavily over the camp was only broken by stifled cries or expressions of guilt or frustration. They had set up camp at the bottom of the valley that the caves let out into where a stream babbled swiftly with ice cold water from the mountain tops. Hyrule seemed to be stable, luckily his back hadn’t broken from the rock slide but many bones were severely fractuured none the less.
Legend sat curled in on himself at the far edge of the camp and stubbornly refused any potions for his injuries. In his mind, his suffering was in solidarity with their fallen brother and as much as he tried not to, he couldn’t help but imagine what Four had experience before being buried alive. Had he felt his body break when the entire cavern fell on him? Or had the Goddesses granted him mercy and knocked him out before he was crushed?
Hours passed but still Legend remained with his head in his hands and infinite tears showed no sign of stopping. The sun finally dipped behind the wretched mountain and twilight washed over the valley.
Warriors carefully sat beside Legend, remaining silent for a beat before mustering the courage to speak. “You at least have to eat something.”
Legend continued to tremble silently in his protective position with his legs drawn to his chest and his head hanging in his hands. He didn’t know if he was mad at Warriors or not for pulling him away from Four at the end. He didn’t care if it would have killed him, too. He just wished he hadn’t abandoned him…
But as Warriors placed a hesitant hand on the Veteran’s shoulder, Legend’s skin crawled of its own accord and a bitter pit coiled and ate away at his core. He angrily recoiled from the touch and a ghost of a hiss escaped his grit teeth. He didn’t need to decide if he was mad, his body had made that decision for him, it seemed. He didn’t care.
“Leg, c’mon,” Warriors kept his voice soft as he pleaded.
“Leave me alone,” Legend muttered thickly under his breath.
Warriors leaned in with a frown. “What?”
Legend whipped his head around and met Warriors with a furious glare. “I said leave me alone!”
His voice echoed through the camp and everyone stopped what they were doing to look at their friend in shock. He couldn’t stand this- couldn’t stand the stares and the guilt and the crying. He wanted to be alone. There was nothing saying he couldn’t, aside from his protesting body, so he shot to his feet and marched back to the mouth of the collapsed cave and ignored his companions calling after him.
After all of what he had been through, all of the losses in his life, one would think he would have learned by now to never get attached. Attachment meant loss, plain and simple. And that loss usually came with plenty of other baggage, too- especially guilt.
He kicked a rock up the dirt path leading to the mouth of the fallen cave and tried to tell himself that this wasn’t his fault. How could it have been? Four was a brother to all of his companions, they were responsible for each other equally. But Legend was there, he could have done something- anything. Even if it meant simply dying with him so he wouldn’t have to suffer alone.
Tears pricked at his eyes with new vigor, but before he could take his frustration out on the rock he kicked up the path, an explosion blasted from the mouth of the cave and rocks flew in every direction. Legend shielded his face when a thick plume of dust and debris rolled down the path to envelop him. After a few coughs and rubbing the dirt from his eyes, he squinted at the source of the blast.
A small opening had been blown away and against the darkness of the cave depths, a small figure clawed its way from under the rubble. Before Legend could fully comprehend what he was seeing, he sprinted toward the figure as fast as his weary body could carry him.
“Four!” He cried out to the now motionless figure. Bare knees skidded to the rugged ground and trembling hands hurried to scoop the limp body into aching arms. “Four, can you hear me?” Legend gasped as he checked the Smith’s pulse. Still alive.
The sight definitely wasn’t the most pleasant one and they would need to get much more potion to mend these wounds. A bone jutted from Four’s shin and the ragged shallow breaths bubbling form his throat meant that his lungs were pierced or collapsed. But what made Legend’s stomach turn were the extensive burns running all along his left side. His abdomen was exposed and singed fabric fused with raw flesh coated in grime and dirt. The burn on his left arm was also exposed and scorched skin spanned from his hand to the base of his ear. Blood completely covered the entire right side of his face.
“Four, you have to stay with me,” He pleaded, but the Smith didn’t move. “Don’t leave me, come on. Don’t leave me. Wake up…”
He had almost lost hope when a slightly deeper breath wracked through Four’s chest and one sharp eye cracked open enough to peer up at Legend.
“You’re going to be fine,” Legend assured gently.
A barely perceptible smile twitched across Four’s lips. “…Told ya.”

any warriors hcs??
too many. they’re spilling out of my arms. let’s do this
- warriors is sheikah. i will stand by this for literally Forever, because 1) lu has a lot of, how do we say, pasty boys, and the group needs diversity. 2) it’s a really interesting way to analyze warriors’ relationship with the crown, given that the sheikah are seemingly bound to serve the royal monarchy regardless of their own personal feelings
- like, he has no choice but to die in service, even though his own destiny is fulfilled—he’s gotta sacrifice even his own morality based off what the crown wants, and i just think it would be rlly neat to explore the negative connotations of the sheikah-hylian relations through warriors
- also i really just think warriors would take off his shoes when he gets into the house
- has all the markings of a southern belle. drinks sweetened ice tea. knows how to stay cool in the heat. sincerely and utterly dramatic in the best possible way
- used to be incredibly self conscious about how he looked when he was a teenager (teen as in, 13-17). only grew to be confident when he joined the army
- he’s unflappable but really you need to give him a routine, because otherwise he just. is not in a good mood for the rest of the day. he likes his things and his time the way they can Be, please
- had to take speech therapy when he got promoted. I’ll die on this hill too. he’s very good at speaking non verbally — sign is soldier language — but to give morale, Impa and zelda wanted him to directly speak to the troops, so to help him not stutter as much, he took speech therapy. yes he still stutters. no nobody makes fun of him. if you make fun of him you’ll Die
- actually is very religious? like. the army is an institution that works closely with the royal family. the royal family is very religious and zelda is typically a high figure in the hylian church as a prophet. institutions r screwing Warriors’ life over LMFAO
- on that being said, though, he’s got a lot of religious things with him that he doesn’t rlly show the others. he understands it’s not really their thing
- but he’s definitely got a prayer wheel stashed in his bag somewhere
- hair is very important to hylians as well, either in a religious or just in a general cultural sense, so he often spends much time on that aspect of his appearance as well
- mostly it’s only wild who gets it
- so. yk
- edit I FORGOT TO MENTIONNNNNN he has a gag gift shirt that someone got him and he literally cannot remember for the LIFW of him who it was. but it reads “DILF (damn i like fishing)”
- he’s contractually obligated to wear a “sorry women” cap
#mochis mumbles#asks#anon#linked universe#lu warriors#this was mad fun thank you for the ask anon#headcanons#much of these r like so niche LMFAOOOO sorry#hope this is okay though

Hero of Legacy General Plot/History/Link Overview
Me and @flowercape worked pretty hard on this story and I really want to go through everything we’ve made. However that would be physically impossible so this is just a summary! I should also note that there is some Art work from @flowercape ! I love their art! Please give them some love!
(Also should note. Legacy is a LoZ Link OC and not a LU one though I have thought about their interactions its not canon.)
Ok! So let me bring up the timeline we are going to be following. It’s not that custom nor does the Timeline actually show the amount of time that has passed.
Alright so we got 500 years between BOTW and Legacy so here are the spark notes that I’ve been sending people:
- Zelda and Link rebuild Hyrule. Zelda made the old Castle rebuilt into an Academy. While another smaller castle was built next to it, this created a lot of jobs for the people and they slowly came back to rebuild the kingdom in general. Wild on the other hand founded and created an Adventuring Guild and started rebuilding the Army. (But his focus was more on the guild.)
- Zelda feeling like Link’s silence was her fault developed the Hylian Sign Language and made it the Kingdoms second language.
- The Kingdom had a Science and History boom after a lot of things where brought back up from the calamity. The only good things to come out of it was that these artifacts where brought back to the surface.
- History is important in the kingdom because Ganon kept coming back over and over again. So the stories of the different links were brought back in full force to remind people of the tragedy’s. However like what happen with our history, mythology and history meld so its hard to see what is right and what was just made up. (Ie. King Arthur. He might of been real but the story isnt.)
- 500 years later the Royal family is a figure head and people don’t really believe in the goddess thing anymore. So this Zelda is a lot more free and happy to do what she please. She follows Wild’s Zelda and becomes a Doctor of Science.
- Link and Zelda meet when there were 5. Zelda had a friend named Claus who was 7. In a small museum in the Academy’s Library. Zelda and Link had a share interest in history of Hyrule’s heroes. Well… Zelda had an obsession with the Champions, the Era of the Wild and Sheikah Tech because she really adores the Queen of the Wild. While Link had an overall love because of his Father and Mother being both historians.
- In Botw its was implied that the Gerudo's blood line was being mix with Hylian. For example, They now have pointed ears and not the rounded in OoT. So thats why Link is a male despite his mom being Gerudo. There isnt many males in the world but its slowly becoming normal. (It was the reason we gave on why link was a male, because its the one that made sense to us historical wise)
- The Gerudo Town we know in Botw, is still a female only town but there is a town with the males and husbands.
- The Academy is spilt into different tracks named after the Dragons and Hylia herself. Each class has only homeroom professor for their entire class year. (If that makes sense. They do this in Japan I believe. While the House concept is taken from England but edited to fit this.)
- Farosh: The track Link was apart of and later in life he is a home room and history professor. The course was made for those who want to explore and learn about the world through Adventure. Most if not all their Alumi go into the Adventures Guild.
- Naydra: The track that Zelda when into and sometimes teaches in as a guest! The course was made for those who mostly focus on science and technology. Most of the Alumi go into Hyrule’s Royal Laboratory or they head to the New Kakariko part in Hateno City.
- Dinraal: The track that Claus was apart of. This is the Knight coarse’s! Standard military coarse’s and such. Most of the Alumi go into the Army ether as soldiers or tacticians.
- Hylia: The track for the more spiritual and magic based people. All three coarse’s have to take some of there coarse but its not required. This is the hardest coarse to get into. Zelda got in but turn them down for science.
- All races are welcome at the Academy and because of the Queen of the Wild the tuition is free! The Academy promotes learning and curious minds.
Here he is! Our Son!
Summary on his Childhood then I’ll put some Bullet Points at the end: :)
Link’s deal is that, no one knows that he is the hero. There was a prophecy that claimed that there will be another tragedy. However someone started a rumor the the hero was Link's and Zelda's childhood friend Claus. So while his friends are full force doing training (light training in Zelda’s case because she was not having it.) Link was pushed to the side almost the trio was still super close! But there was something going on that they didnt know about.
(Now this part is weird, its one of the things I had control over but I still don’t know the exact idea on what happened. I have an oneshot I could post but it has old information on it that I need to remove.)
The Trio was 10 when the prophecy hit. At the same time Link had a Dream, though in his eyes it was a nightmare. As a child he had to find the Sky view temple and go through it. No monster, no traps, no puzzles. I should mention here that this Link while really curious and likes to discover things, is easily scared and has really bad social anxiety even as a child. So during this dream he was terrified, but he was force to go through it. Finally, when he reached the Spring of Courage. There is a man waiting for him. Link fully terrified at this point. Could not hear a word this man was saying. We the reader know its the First hero (The one from the Skyward Manga). After forcing himself awake from fear, Link would slowly start to see things. Spirits of different men in the corner of his eyes or he will go into, unknown to him ,dissociative states. In these states he would interact with these spirits. But he couldn’t hear them and barely see them.
We named it Farore’s Blessing because in Spirit tracks that Link could see the ghost of Zelda, then the idea of this being a thing that all links have because they see the unseeable normally came up. Legacy and Spirit just have a more powerful version of it.
Some Authors Notes about Link:
- Link is a History Professor and does part time archaeology work for the Adventures Guild.
- He has extreme social anxiety which lead selective mutism.
- Only has 2 years of sword fighting experience when he was 12 from his father.
- He loves ancient magic songs and has talked Zelda’s ear off about it.
- Is like 99% sure Nayru hates him.
- For the longest time he has felt inferior to Claus and Zelda.
- Is worried about the Hero of Time and Hero of Legend.
- Has regretted the Hero Spirit for too long.
- The thing about the Hero Spirit is that the Hero has to nurture it so they can grow into their role as a courageous hero. Legacy, because of his anxiety getting worse from seeing the spirits, the dream, dissociative states where he sometimes sees memories that isn’t his, and then lastly… finding his fathers body after confining in him about seeing things. He blamed himself. He blamed they people who he saw. He blamed the man in his dream. What he didn’t know was that someone else was pushing him to become a hero quicker then having him grow into it naturally.
- Link’s journey is based on the saying: “Learn from the past to make a better future.”
- So he needs to travel back in time to support and learn from each hero.
- Has a lot of regrets not telling Claus about being a Hero.
_____________________________________________
Thats basically everything? If you have any questions let me know!! I’ll be posting about Zelda and Claus soon after I finish drawing their reference sheet.

I watched a few clips from ‘Black Widow’ and this au just popped into my head. (Be warned, this whole is incredibly messy and disjointed. I apologise for that. I’m just writing this as it pops into my head in a stream of consciousness because I’m kinda tired rn.)
Black Widow/Winter Soldier Wild AU
Can you imagine if when Wild’s really young and is discovered to be the hero, he’s just ripped away from his family and life to be trained as the hero. Except the training is pretty much just training him to be an obedient assassin who does whatever he is ordered to. He’s essentially got the training of Black Widow and the Winter Soldier and is just used by the royal family for whatever they want him to do basically.
***
I imagine parts of his training be things like…
1. The obvious weapons training. He’s trained with pretty much any weapon you can find in Hyrule until he’s a master at all of them. Sword, spear, bow and arrow, bommerang, etc.
2. Hand to hand combat as well. Again, he’s pretty much mastered it.
3. Pain resistance. He’s basically trained to ignore pain and they did this by beating him over and over until he learned not to flinch and show a physical reaction.
4. He speaks pretty much every language in Hyrule (Hylian, Goron, Gerudo, Rito, Zora, and Sheikah) fluently.
5. Any other stuff you can think of that he could be trained in basically.
***
Of course, as the hero he’s still Zelda’s bodyguard, they just never get along like they start to in the game before the Calamity awakens. Mainly because Wild has to follow her father’s every order and, like in canon, she hates that she has to be protected and feels useless because she can’t access her goddess given powers. And because Wild literally doesn’t even have the freedom to even think for himself, there isn’t really anyway for them to bond, so Zelda never ends up becoming nice to him like she is after he rescues her from the Yiga attack in one of the memories. (Yeah, this AU probably isn’t going to be super Zelda friendly, basically for more angst purposes when the LU boys come in).
A way to make the situation worse is by having all the champions, even Revali as much as he teases, be deeply uncomfortable by the way Wild is treated by the royal family. (I kinda imagine Revali still being a prick but he’s a bit nicer to Wild then he is in canon.) When they all first visit Hyrule Castle and see how he basically is treated more like a tool than a person, they are all absolutely furious. They all end up volunteering to train Wild in their various fighting styles as a way to get him away from the castle and his orders for a bit so that they can actually treat him kindly. But they treat him so differently to how he’s treated back in the castle that he’s actually confused by them treating him kindly. They’d all gotten back to their respective quarters that night and shed a few tears, the boy didn’t even know proper kindness.
The champions just see Wild as a member of their family and, although he doesn’t say it, he becomes fond of them too. He’s like a brother to all of them. They hate having to leave him to go and prepare the Divine Beasts and pray they see him soon.
Calamity Ganon rises.
The champions are killed in their respective Divine Beasts, and the makeshift family they had with Wild is broken apart.
Wild runs across a muddy field in torrential rain with Zelda’s hand in one of his and the Master Sword in his other. He’s running on nothing but orders and adrenaline. He has several cracked ribs, his left arm is broken even as he grips Zelda’s hand, there is blood pouring out of several cuts and gashes across his body, but still he keeps running. He has too, his body will not allow him to stop as he was ordered to run and protect the princess. She is his mission and he cannot fail.
But moments after Zelda finally unlocks her powers as she shields them from a guardian, he fails his mission. He collapses under the weight of his injuries and moments later, he dies in the middle of Hyrule Field. He has failed his mission and Hyrule has fallen. (Sorry, I don’t really know when I slipped into story mode there?)
But Zelda still manages to have him placed him the resurrection shrine as they still need him, and so, 100 years later, Wild wakes up.
The whole thing gets sadder if you imagine Wild’s training being so strong that it sticks after his resurrection. He doesn’t even understand it, he just hears a voice in his head yelling at him to not do this and not do that. (Extra sad thing, the reason he does all the side quests is because Zelda is the highest authority figure in Hyrule, but as she’s trapped in the castle and unable to give him orders, Wild just obeys anyone because he assumes that they’re a higher ranking than him, even though they are just normal people. And most of the time, they aren’t giving him orders they are asking for help, but he just doesn’t know the difference.)
Anyway, Wild completes his mission and defeats Calamity Ganon and everything seems okay. He’s still at Zelda’s side as she’s the current ruler and part of his programming is to obey the current monarch. They still don’t really get along, but Zelda is trying to be kind to him now, but I imagine that it’s just kind of too late for that now.
However, everything changes when the LU gang turn up (finally!) and look for this Hyrule’s hero, they do find him. But they just don’t expect him to be an emotionless 118 year old assassin. They talk with Zelda to discuss their quest and she says that Wild can go with them, blah blah blah. So they take Wild with them on their quest and just get more and more outraged the more they find out about him (oh, also Wild is mute in this and uses sign language.)
Since Time seems to be the leader of the group, Wild starts to treat him like he treats Zelda. Listens to whatever he says as Wild sees it as an order, protects him more during fights, that kinda stuff and it breaks Time’s heart when he figures it out.
Also i imagine that it’s also really strange for Wild to visit the other Hyrules and meet the other Zelda’s who have great relationships with their respective Links, because he doesn’t have that with his Zelda. (Although, I do see Malon immediately taking a liking to him and wanting to hug the poor boy, which would be super emotional for him as he hasn’t been hugged in years and can’t even remember his own mother).
***
But there are two times that the gang really learn how much his training messed him up and oh boy, are they fucking fuming!
The first time happened when Wild gets stabbed during a fight and doesn’t even flinch. Nobody notices until after the fight when they all sit at the camp fire that night and Wild just starts sewing his wound up as they all watch in horror. Hyrule asks why he never said he was injured and Wild says ‘it wasn’t important.’ And doesn’t understand why they make a fuss and insist he wastes a healing potion on himself (yes, Wild has an absolutely crap self-esteem here and doesn’t actually think he’s worth anything other than what he can do for people.) Hyrule has to be stopped from tackling Wild to check on the wound himself.
The second was when Wild put himself in danger during a fight to protect the others and when the fight was over Time yelled at him. It was out of concern for Wild’s wellbeing and asking why him had put himself in danger, but Wild thought he was in trouble and asked if Time wanted to punish him. Everyone, especially Time, was horrified and confused. Time asked what Wild meant by punishment and then almost wished he’d never asked. Wild just went into explanations of various punishments he’s had. They were all incredibly harsh, including being whipped, having to stand outside holding a sword outstretched in his hands all night while not being allowed to lower his arms, having to fight other full-armoured and equiped soldiers without any armour or weapons himself, etc. Wild is then the subject of a very big cuddle pile.
***
Basically this AU can be summed up as Black Widow/Winter Soldier Wild gets treated nicely for the first time in years and is very confused/uncomfortable, while the gang all immediately see Wild and are like ‘ahh yes, our amnesiac assassin now’ while they try to convince him that there is more to him than just being a puppet for people. Of course, while the quest with the black blooded monsters takes place as well.

LU MEI XING: AMBASSADOR, SPY, ENVOY
{ li qin, 28, cis-female, she/her } ** whispers dart through the streets of kærholt. was that LU MEI-XING that was spotted? they’re an AMBASSADOR OF THE LAOZHUN EMPIRE in the city and are known for being COURAGEOUS and OBSTINATE. they DO have magical abilities. the whispers say they are NEUTRAL to the eldrkirk and are AGAINST the laws about magic. may the fire keep them warm. **
QUICK HEADCANONS FOR YOU
Mei-xing is from the Laozhun Empire - a distant land that is dominated by a fierce magocratic society. Power and magic defines an individual’s potential. If you were born without the spark for magic, then you were destined for low and difficult work.
The Lu Clan are part of Laozhun’s magocratic elite and are stalwart supporters of the Imperial family. They trade in magical potions and enchantments, and use ships to travel across the waters in search of magical ingredients.
Mei-xing is also a cousin to the Lovelowe family. She frequently spent time in Kaerholt during childhood and adolesence. Thus, many of her informants are old friends and allies in the infamous free city.
She found Kaerholt to be a thrilling and interesting place. It was so different to her homeland. However, she quickly learnt to be cautious about exposing her magical abilities, as Kaerholt’s atttiude towards magic changed and the Eldrkirk grew more influential.
The Laozhun Empire are curious and sceptical about the Eldrkirk's movements. More importantly - they are concerned about Eldrkirk's laws and views regarding magic. Since Kaerholt is a bustling trade city, they believe that that influence could travel overseas and cause issues within their own territory. There has been a growing resentment towards magic, Mages, and the unfairness of society in the Laozhun Empire. So, they sent Mei-xing to Kaerholt for an extended mission - to gather intelligence on the Eldrkirk’s movements, to gauge if their influence could travel to other areas, and to make political alliances where necessary.
Mei-xing’s placement in Kaerholt was also due to her connections with the Lovelowe family. Mei-Xing's mother was a cousin of the Lovelowe family and met Lu Yuyin (Mei-Xing's father) on a merchant voyages. However, there is no mistaking that her primary loyalty is to her birthplace of the Laozhun Empire, even if she has fond memories of Kaerholt’s ‘liberal’ and wild ways.
Amongst friends, she is called Mei or Lu Mei.
Her striking white hair is a birthright feature of the Lu family. Some say it is because of their magical power, whilst others say it is a sign that they have been over exposed to too much magic and will suffer from weakening ailments in the future. The latter gossip infuriates and frightens Mei-xing because there is a growing madness in her clan which haunts her dreams.
DESIRED CONNECTIONS
A CHILDHOOD BLURRED
(This is vague but I would love to have childhood/adolescent friends of Mei-xing! Whether they are part of the Merchant families, the criminal underworld (which Mei-xing frequently uses as a source of information), or fellow sorcerers - anu would bewelcome! During Mei-Xing's visits to Kaerholt, she often travelled around and enjoyed exploring the interesting free-city.)
SECRETS FOR TRADE
(Mei-Xing is not scared to dabble in the underworld of society. They usually hear the best gossip. She'll have a contact in Kaerholt's crime world and she'll trade her clan’s magical potions for information regarding the Eldrkirk)
THIN BLOOD, THICK BLOOD
(Familal connection within the Lovelowe family - someone she grew close to during her visits or perhaps a rival who she clashes with!)
FORBIDDEN ARTS
(A possible pen-pal, apprentice, or sorcerer friend who Mei-Xing has kept in touch with over the years)
PERSONALITY
+ RESOURCEFUL
Alert and attentive. Mei-xing has been trained in the arts of subterfuge and deceit. She has explored lands from the Laozhun Empire to Kaerholt, learning languages, cultural customs, and political scheming. Now that she has been charged with this dangerous and extended mission in Kaerholt, Mei-xing must use all of her skills of persuasion to create a foothold in the social elite and the grim underworld.
+ BRAVE
Courage and fearlessness are forged into a mage’s bones during training. They are the soldiers, spies, and guardians of the Laozhun empire. Thus, they are all trained to become weapons. Mei-xing does not shirk away from duty or danger. Whilst this may come across as arrogance or recklessness, but to her - she was forged for breaking and being broken. She refuses to bow down to fear, as that is how a mage’s power fails, and she will continue to challenge anything in her path.
+ FIERY
x
- BLUNT
x
- STUBBORN
x
- HAUNTED
White hair started to appear in the Lu clan’s bloodline a few centuries ago. At first, it was regarded as a striking and unique feature which they proudly showed off, but as they investigated its roots, they learnt that it was linked to an omen for their bloodline. Too much magic ran in their veins, and some of their children were growing weaker - not just in potential but also in body and mind. An ailment was quietly and softly spreading through the clan, and Mei-xing has watched many cousins - even siblings - fall prey to madness because of this strange side-effect. She is desperate for a cure and is becoming increasingly paranoid that she too would fall ill. Sometimes, she catches the shapes of shadows twisting and turning into monsters from the corner of her eye, and her dreams are rarely ones she would like to remember.

Okay, so you mentioned that Wild was another favorite... Headcanons please? [Watch me just keep doing this until I see every single boy get headcanons XD]
Yeah so I'm just gonna keep doing these lol. Let's see if I can get through all the boys by the end of the weekend.
Wild Headcanons!
As before, here’s the giant mis-mash of canon/LU canon/fanon/headcanon that I use for writing Wild.
Genderfluid. Defaulted to ‘he’ after waking up because it’s what everyone around him assumed, got slapped in the face in Gerudo Town with how good it felt to be called ‘she.’ Zelda knows to use ‘she’ when Wild is dressed a certain way, but it’s Hyrule who brings up the idea of being gender neutral and Warriors who introduces them both to the term ‘genderfluid’ and to using ‘they’ as a pronoun. Basically, Wild is slowly collecting pronouns like candy and it’s very exciting. They can’t wait to share the new things they’ve discovered on the topic and how they think it applies to them with Zelda; she’ll be just as happy about it as they are. Still mostly defaults to ‘he’ out of a combination of habit and continuing to figure out good signals for when their pronouns change, but that is shifting as time goes on.
Functionally aro/ace, at least for now. He’s focusing on rediscovering who he is and establishing familial and platonic relationships. Will probably hit one hell of an experimental phase before too much longer.
Wild’s journey/story arc is largely one of experimentation and self discovery. Curiosity is the driving force behind most of the decisions he makes. (Along with just having fun. Wild loves to have fun.)
Adventure buddies with Hyrule. They pretty much bonded instantly over their shared love of exploration and nature.
Has lots of similarities with Wind even though they don’t see eye to eye on certain topics. (Kings of Hyrule, anyone?) When Wild is feeling their silliest or just needs to have some fun to let off steam, Wind is the one they turn to.
Slightly intimidated by Warriors and Sky. Warriors seems a model knight, something Wild feels he failed to be and maybe even slightly resents. Sky also talks about being in the Knight Academy, and of course there was the whole thing with the Master Sword. Wild very much does not want Sky to get mad at him again. Nobody likes it when Sky is mad at them.
Obviously has strong familial feelings towards Twilight, and by extension Time
Has sass, generally more positive than Legend but not afraid to throw hands
Occasionally has depressive episodes and the memory-flashbacks
Wild doesn’t actually cook all the groups’ meals. He’s not the only one who is competent around a cook pot, he’s just the most passionate about it. And also the one who keeps most of the group’s food, given the slate’s ability to keep food fresh.
Wild is in fact very frustrated and somewhat humiliated by the shitty quality of his weapons, now that he’s seen enough of the others to know that none of them have the same issues with stuff just breaking as he does. Knowledge of how to care for and maintain weapons was not one of the things that carried over from his previous life, plus he keeps doing things like hitting frigging rocks with his blades. The others are slowly teaching him better.
Adrenaline. Junkie.
Thinks of their past self as a stranger who happened to inhabit their body. Had anxiety-induced muteness pre-calamity, began talking again after they woke up. They did retain sign language. Will occasionally default to it if their throat is paining them.
Has a bit of a rasp due to vocal chord damage that the shrine didn’t quite fix all the way; his voice starts to get tired if he does a lot of talking. The scars sometimes cause him mobility issues. The masseuse in gerudo town gave him oil for them and taught him how to massage the tissue to help, but he tends to forget to do it.
Hair is constantly tangled. He takes a stab at brushing it most days but not nearly thoroughly or often enough to keep it from turning into a horrible rats nest.
Is it gonna be fun? Great it’s a good idea let’s go.
Considers basically everybody in his Hyrule to be his family. Has adopted family in pretty much every race, village, and stable. His Hyrule loves him and he loves them back. Kass and Teba are like dads. Riju is his BFF and fellow pun enthusiast. The villagers of Hateno are especially protective of both him and Zelda once she comes to live with him there. There’s Impa and Dorian in Kakariko. Sidon and Paya are both potential Significant Other material if he ever becomes interested in that stuff. He gets fussed over in all the stables, greeted with enthusiasm in Tarrey Town and with the Gorons… Most of the citizens of his Hyrule don’t have any association between him and what happened 100 years ago, they just know him as the person who made things better this time.
Falls into a sibling relationship with their Zelda post-adventure. Neither of them have any interest in restoring the system that failed both of them so badly, especially after all the time that has elapsed. Zelda is quite happy with the opportunity to just be herself, exploring and experimenting and re-establishing relationships of her own.
One of the more religious of the group. He prays and leaves offerings at every statue, in every temple. Wild’s Hyrule has very active spirits and a large variety of religions, both ancient and current. (Hylia, the little ancestor statues all over the place, the dragons, the Gerudo seven, Malanya…) Wild’s personal experience has been that paying basic respects leads to good things (finding Koroks, increases in health and stamina, someone watching out for his horses…)
Wild takes lots of pictures, not just of people but of places and plants and animals. He’s recording his travels to show Zelda when he gets home. He knows she would kill him if he didn’t.
The others: Four | Sky | Legend | Hyrule | Warriors
