As a lesbian, itâs happened twice already that one âguyâ stands out to me and I think âhuh maybe theyâre kinda cute and interesting, I wanna get to know themâ and then I get to know them better and itâs a closeted trans girl who I somehow sniffed with my little nonbinary lesbian nose

karaoke and cowboy hats
colt seavers x costume designer/manager!reader
there will be multiple parts, this is part one !!
a/n : so so so much fun to write, and probably one of my longest and favorite fics iâve ever written. i love colt and ryan gosling, and tried to add as many easter eggs from âthe fall guyâ as possible
summary : colt always seems to be misplacing his costumes pieces, which has him constantly coming back to the costume manager and designer, y/n. the two decide to hang out for once outside of set.
contains: this is just purely fluff and good vibes, no smut, cursing, âwill they, wonât theyâ, part two will have more romance dw
word count : 3.7k
Working with Tom Ryder was one of the most difficult tasks one could be assigned. He was arrogant, narcissistic, and overall just a complete asshole. I had the misfortune of being the costume designer and manager for the up and coming film âMetalstormâ, and Jody, the director, insisted on the most clichĂ© cowboy get ups imaginable, plus a gold metallic touch. Having worked with Ryder many times previously, I knew he would hate this. I had prepared myself for one of his meltdowns long before it actually happened, but it still somehow caught me off guard.
âWhat the fuck is this?â He stormed into the costume tent, causing me to jump up from my seat in panic.
âRyder... Jody insisted you wear this.â
Ryder looked down at his attire in utter disgust. âDonât try to blame anybody but yourself. This is your fault. Are you trying to embarrass me? Do you have some personal vendetta? Iâve never even worked with you before!â
It stung that he didnât even recognize me from our previous jobs together, but I tried to ignore it. Looking at Ryderâs get-up, he didnât even look half bad. The gold metallic suit went great with his complexion, and the cowboy hat added a charming touch. But he wasnât having any of it.
âYou have to wear it. Itâs not an option. This is your costume.â I tried to act brave, as if his harsh voice didnât effect me one bit.
âYouâre fucking delusional if you think Iâm going to be caught dead wearing this. Say goodbye to your job, nobody speaks to me like that. Iâm Tom god-damned Ryder.â
The tentâs entrance opened, revealing a very angry Colt.
Colt and I were sort of close, as close as most coworkers get. I didnât think weâd never hang out outside of set, but I considered him sort of an ally. When he wasnât performing a dangerous stunt, heâd talk to me about whatever was on his mind and listen to me ramble on and on.
âJust leave her alone, Ryder. Sheâs not here for you to bitch at.â
It would be hard to deny the fact that I had a small crush on Colt. He was everything I could want; charming, tall, handsome. But in those moments, as he defended me, I could feel it turning to a major crush.
Anger pulsed through him as he walked over to Ryder. Iâd actually never seen him so pissed off before. Colt, the easy going, overly sweet, fall guy, was bowing up on Tom Ryder.
I could tell Ryder wanted to say something back, but instead he bit his tongue as he strutted past Colt, making sure to bump shoulders with him on the way out.
Colt shook his head, making eye contact with me. He had a sorry expression on his face, genuine pity for me.
âIgnore him. Ryderâs a jackass.â
I giggled, âThatâs an understatement.â
He chuckled, âAnyways, do you have any extra hats? I somehow managed to lose mine, and I already have some stunts I need to do.â
Colt nervously twiddled his thumbs, embarrassed of his clumsiness. It was our third day on set, and heâd already misplaced his hat.
I nodded, smiling. Colt was always losing his props and costume pieces in previous projects weâd worked together in, so Iâd remembered to bring extras. Turning around to reach into the bucket of hats, I pulled one out and handed it to him.
âThanks. And again, just donât let Ryder get to you. I know youâve worked with him before, but donât take anything he says personally, okay? If he gives you any problems, just let me know, alright?â
It wasnât surprising that Colt remembered me from past projects, but it still felt nice in contrast to Ryderâs forgetfulness.
I nodded, smiling. âThanks Colt, I really appreciate that.â
My cheeks burned a light crimson shade, and I tilted my head down, hoping he didnât notice.
As he walked out of the tent, I added âLet me know if you need another hat or anything. I brought extras just for you.â
Colt looked back at me, smirking. âI will definitely need another one, thanks sweetheart.â
The simple nickname made my head spin. Yep, this is definitely a major crush.
â
By day five of filming, Ryder had become okay with his costume. Well, maybe not okay, but definitely impartial. Perhaps because his ego had realized how ridiculously good the suit made him look, or maybe Colt had spoken to him alone about the matter.
Part of me hoped it was the latter.
My job as costume designer and manager was really simple; fix and replace shit all the time. Especially Coltâs shit. When day six rolled around, he had lost three hats, his metallic jacket, and somehow a singular shoe. Iâm not kidding, he had stumbled into the costume tent, peg footed, hobbling on the shoe heâd managed to keep. I didnât mind though. In fact, Colt was one of the few people that actually visited me in the tent, instead of walking in, grabbing their belongings, and quickly walking out, not saying a word or acknowledging my existence. Coltâs visits slowly became one of the only things I looked forward to during filming.
On day twelve, when Colt came in to the tent without a cowboy hat once again, I mustered up the courage to ask him the one thing I never thought Iâd be able to ask.
âDo you want to hang out sometime. You know, just me and you? Outside of set.â
The sides of his mouth quirked up. âIâd love that actually. But I do have one request.â
I furrowed my brows, listening intently. âIf me and you go out, you have to wear a cowboy hat.â
My mouth dropped open in protest, but he argued on. âYouâve seen me in these stupid things so many times, too many times to count. Iâm completely and utterly embarrassed. Maybe I want to see you sporting your southern spirit for once.â
âIâm from Wisconsin!â I giggled, shaking my head rapidly. âI am not wearing one of these things in public.â
Colt rolled his eyes, âFine, but you have to wear one around set for the rest of filming. Deal?â
I sighed, remembering that I barely ever exit my tent other than at lunch time and when leaving set for the day. âDeal.â
âKaraoke, seven, tonight. Iâll text you the address.â
Colt turned to leave, and I grabbed his shoulder, pausing him.
âI donât have your number.â
âOh, yeah.â Colt chuckled, pulling his phone out of his pocket. We exchanged numbers, and he laughed at the excessive amount of repetitive digits in mine.
âAnd Iâm expecting our deal to begin right now.â He said, glancing at the bucket of hats behind me. I sighed, picking one out and placing it upon my head.
âHappy?â I asked, holding out spirit fingers beside me.
Colt beamed, âPerfect.â
He turned and left the tent, and I pulled out my phone and began to update Coltâs contact name, only to sigh and pocket my phone again. Apple somehow doesnât have a cowboy hat emoji.
â
When my Uber lazily pulled up to the karaoke bar, anxiety pooled in my stomach all at once. I shouldnât have been this nervous, and I knew I was making this out to be something that it wasnât. A date.
But what exactly was I supposed to think of this as? Hangouts happen at peopleâs houses, dates happen at bars. Plus it didnât help that it was Colt and I alone. I look down at the sun dress that I donned, running my hands down the skirt. This wasnât too formal, right?
I stepped out of the black car, thanking the half asleep driver, and walked toward the bar. I opened the door and automatically spotted Colt sitting by himself, drinking a small, lean glass of something colorful. The bar wasnât exactly packed, but it wasnât empty either. Numerous people danced around as a man in a orange and green polka dot button up did a bad rendition of Lady Gagaâs âBad Romanceâ.
Making my way towards him, the anxiety filled my stomach even higher.
âHey.â I said nervously, sitting down beside him.
Colt looked at me, examining my attire. âYou look great.â
I blushed, shrugging. âThanks, you donât look too bad yourself.â
He smiled, taking another sip of his drink.
I wasnât too keen on getting drunk because we still had to go to set in the morning and the last thing I wanted Colt Seavers to see was me throwing up in a bush, but a drink or two couldnât hurt.
âYou want a drink?â
âSure,â I grabbed the bartenderâs attention, âCan I please get a margarita?â She nodded, scrambling to assemble the cocktail.
âSo Iâm guessing you donât drink much?â Colt asked, his lips in a sly smirk.
âWhat makes you say that?â
I chuckled, drinking the last of what I assume what his first drink and ordering another. I then learned the bright liquid was a sunset on ice.
âWell you ordered the most basic drink known to mankind. I mean, at least make it spicy.â
I guess that was true, but I didnât like experimenting with my orders much. I didnât enjoy drinking much in general due to the effects it would have on me later.
âI like what I like.â I shrugged, thanking the bartender as she handed me the margarita.
We sat in silence for a moment, until Colt turned to me. âSo, what are we singing?â
I coughed into my drink. I hadnât even thought of what I was going to sing yet.
âFunny of you to assume were doing a duet.â I said slyly, playing off the fact that I was trying to pull a song out of my ass.
Colt raised his eye brows. âOkay, then go and serenade me.â
I nodded at him, walking over to the DJ and requesting âBefore He Cheatsâ by Carrie Underwood. Once Polka Dots was done singing his heart out, the adrenaline had kicked in and I felt as if I ruled the world. Or maybe I just wanted to rule Coltâs world.
The small crowd clapped along as I sang, and I say Coltâs smile through the audience every time I tried to execute one of the runs in the song.
Afterwards, I walked over to him, slightly embarrassed but also proud. âHowâd I do?â
His face was covered in amusement. âIt was... entertaining.â
I giggled, punching his arm lightly. âYouâre the one who told me to âsport my southern spiritâ!â
He sighed, shaking his head sarcastically. âThe cowboy had wouldâve made it complete. You missed the opportunity of a lifetime.â
âI think Iâll live. Now itâs your turn!â
I motioned towards the DJ booth, and he stood up turning back for a split second to wink at me.
I was expecting something silly. Maybe Total Eclipse of the Heart, or Sweet Caroline. I was terribly wrong.
By the time the first notes blared out of the speakers, I knew I was doomed.
Wise men say only fools rush in
But I canât help falling in love with you.
Itâs like heâd searched my brain, found my favorite love song of all time, and decided he was going to make me fall in love with him by singing it.
His voice wasnât perfect. There were parts that were off key and shaky, but the bigger picture was beautiful. I never thought I could fall in love with someone in a karaoke bar.
Once he was done, my shoulders dropped and the tension left my body. It had been so unexpected, the tune had snuck up on me and now I felt head over heels to the man who had sung it. I wasnât the only one who loved it, the crowd was going crazy.
âHowâd I do?â Colt asked me, sipping the drink that had been waiting for him. This had to have been his third drink, and I could tell he was tipsy from the way he spoke.
âIt was great.â I wanted to scream âIt was amazing! It was perfect! Please marry me!â But thankfully I did not.
ââGlad you liked it.â
We sat in silence for a moment before I got the guts to ask.
âWhy that song?â
Colt hummed, as if asking me to repeat my question.
âWhyâd you pick that song?â
He grinned to himself before shrugging. âI just like the song, I guess. Itâs one of my favorites.â
It couldâve been my habit of overthinking and examining everything to the smallest detail, or it couldâve been the psychology course that I took in college and obsessively studied over for months, but Coltâs excessive blinking in those moments told me there was a good chance he was lying to me.
Why would he lie over a song?
âItâs one of my favorites too.â I smiled. Iâd find out why he lied to me later.
Colt grinned to himself in satisfaction.
We sat there for another hour, and Colt drank two more tequila sunrises, which meant I was now his designated driver.
At about nine, I decided it was time to leave.
âColt, Iâm gonna give you a ride home, okay?â
Colt nodded dizzily.
âDid you drive here?â
âYeah, here.â He clumsily handed me his keys, almost missing my hand. I stiffened a laugh. âDiane! Close out my tab, please.â The waitress handed him his card quickly.
We stood up, beginning to leave, when Colt turned back to the bartender. âThank you, Diane, those drinks were great.â
I waved goodbye to Diane as well, reading the âAmyâ on her name tag with a smile.
I got him into the car slowly, and began driving him home.
âHey, y/n?â
I hummed, waiting to hear what he was about to say. Chances are it would be something ridiculous, and I was all here for it.
âYouâre really pretty. Have you ever been told that?â
I blushed, and prayed the dark car shadowed me enough for him not to see.
âA time or two. Thank you, Colt.â
He leaned the passenger seat back, and I thought for a moment that he would go to sleep.
âWhere are you staying?â
He turned his head to me, and shrugged. âCan we just go to yours?â
I lifted my eyebrows in surprise. Colt Seavers, in my small temporary apartment that I was providing to stay in during the time weâd be filming. It wasnât a mess since Iâd only been staying in there for about two weeks, but it definitely wasnât guest ready.
âSure, why not?â I fumbled with my phone, pulling up my GPS app and getting directions to the apartment.
âCan I tell you something, y/n?â
I nodded slowly, ignoring the way my stomach felt when he said my name.
âI actually didnât lose all of those hats.â
What?
I furrowed my eyebrows, whipping my head to look at him. âThen whyâd you keep getting new ones from me?â
He hiccuped, smirking. âI just wanted an excuse to see you.â
If my face was a crimson shade before, it was a tomato now. I felt bad, like I was using Coltâs drunken state to get answers out of him.
âDid you like my song?â He looked over at me, waiting for my answer intensely.
My lips quirked up into a soft smile. âI did. âI Canât Help Falling in Love With Youâ is actually one of my favorite songs.â
This made him giddy. He giggled like a school girl, and then stiffened a laugh myself.
âI know.â Colt said under his breath.
So he did know.
âHowâd you know?â I pressed Colt for answers. I knew that if he found out heâd told me any of this while drunk, heâd be mortified, but I just couldnât help my curiosity.
âI heard you listening to it one day on set. I was outside of your tent, about to come in to tell you that Iâd lost another hat, but I stopped and listened for a while. You were singing along, and you sounded so good. Thatâs why I wanted to sing a duet with you.â
At this point, Iâm the color of a fire truck.
We pulled up to the apartment, and I unbuckled, getting out. I walked over to Coltâs door and opened it for him.
âVery chivalrous, thank you my lady.â
I giggled, helping his wobbly frame out of the car. âYouâre welcome kind gentleman.â
We walked into the apartment building, making our way up a flight of stairs. Well, I made my way up them, Colt tripped over himself with each new stair until he made it to the top. At one point, he almost fell all the way down them, and dragged me down by my arm with him, but he managed to catch himself.
I brought him to my room, closing the door behind him. It was small, the kitchen and lounging room directly next to one another, separated by no wall. There was a door that led to the bedroom with a bathroom connected.
Walking into the kitchen, I grabbed a plastic cup form the cupboard and filled it with water. I handed it to Colt, who turned his nose up at it like I were trying to feed him poison.
âYou have to drink water or youâll regret it in the morning, Colt. You still have to go in for filming, remember?â
He sighed, taking the cup from me and drinking it all at once. âIâm starving.â
I thought for a moment about what he could possibly find to eat in the apartment. Nothing. Iâd pretty much been eating take out since I arrived to Sydney.
âIâll order a pizza.â
I pulled my wallet out of my purse on the kitchen counter. Colt shook his head, reaching in his pocket. âDonât worry, Iâll pay.â
âYou got the drinks, Colt, itâs fine.â I insisted, grabbing my card.
Colt handed me his entire wallet, âI wouldnât be able to sleep knowing I made you pay for it.â his drowsy eyes said otherwise, âPlease, just let me.â
I sighed, taking his wallet from him, âThank you.â I said under my breath.
Colt only winked at me, lazily walking to the couch and plopping himself on it.
I ordered the pizza, assuming he liked pepperoni because who doesnât like pepperoni?
I sat down beside him on the couch once I was finished. He was flipping through the different options on Netflix, his face was focused intently to find something.
Colt Seavers was on my couch. Well not necessarily my couch since the apartment was only being rented for me, but you get the point. We were on the couch together, tryin to find a movie to watch with pizza on the way. This realization made my cheeks feel hot once again.
âHere we go.â Colt chuckled as he clicked on the block buster film âBad Cop, Good Dogâ starring the one and only Tom Ryder.
âGet him off the screen, I might puke.â I giggled, attempting to grab the remote from him. Colt held it as far away as his much longer arms could manage, and I gave up.
âThis is such a horrible film.â Colt told me, his eyes laser focused on the screen still.
âThen why are we watching it?â
Colt thought for a moment. âThe way he talked to you the other day isnât anything new. Iâve seen him talk to pretty much every one on every set we worked on together just like that. I just couldnât always save them like I did you. Itâs easy to think heâs some big, powerful guy, but in reality, heâs a pussy.â
I stayed silent for a moment. It felt nice, knowing that he still cared so deeply about the way Ryder had treated me.
âThatïżœïżœïżœs nice and all, but it still doesnât explain why exactly were watching this.â
Colt shrugged, âOh, I just like making fun of him. We can watch something else if you want to.â
I snatched the remote from him, âPlease.â
After a few more minutes of searching, I decided on the 1998 classic âThe Parent Trapâ.
âThis movie never made any sense to me.â Colt crossed his arms as the movie started.
âWhy?â
âWell, first off, what judge arranged this custody system? I mean seriously, how did both parents just up and leave with one kid?â He slurred so horribly that I had to fight a laugh as he spoke.
âItâs just a movie.â There are a few movies that I would defend with my life, this is definitely one of them.
âYou canât just use that as an excuse. Just because itâs a movie doesnât mean itâs allowed to just defy all logic.â
âColt,â I turned to face him, âYou are working on a sci-if space cowboy movie with aliens. I think that makes the parent trap sound pretty reasonable.â
Colt chuckled, âTouchĂ©.â
My heart fluttered as I looked at Colt, lazily snuggled into my couch.
There was a knock at the door and I hopped up, walking through the kitchen and dodging Coltâs wallet, grabbing mine instead.
I paid for the pizza and brought it in, met with the sight of an extremely hungry Colt waiting impatiently at the counter.
âYou didnât use my wallet.â
I sighed, putting mine back in my purse. âIâm a big girl, I can pay for my own things.â
Colt shook his head. âYouâre absolutely kicking my ass at the chivalry game.â
Grabbing a slice of pizza, I went back to the living room. Colt followed quickly behind me, and we got about one-fourth through the movie before I could tell Colt was getting extremely tired.
I got up, and went to my room, grabbing a blanket and a pillow.
âHere.â I handed them to him. Colt smiled up at me gratefully.
âThanks.â He made himself comfortable, before leaning back and closing his eyes. The couch wasnât very small, which was surprising since the apartment was so compact. This is why I didnât feel bad about having him sleep on the couch. He didnât complain either.
âGoodnight.â He mumbled, drifting off.
I smirked at him, walking to the kitchen and grabbing a bottle of water to place beside the couch. I also grabbed the bathroomâs trash can. He was going to have a terrible hangover.
âGoodnight Colt.â
I had gotten a date with Colt Seavers for the small price of humiliating myself in a southern style for the rest of filming. Iâd say thatâs a pretty good deal.
Or maybe it wasnât date and I was delusional, but Colt ended up sleeping on my couch, which is pretty sweet if you ask me.

hi jeanie!! i was wondering if u had any thoughts on what the quarry counselors' favorite nintendo franchises might me?
-cas @chrashley :)
Hi Cas! đ„° Ooh I love this question! I tried to stick with games Iâm familiar with but there's a couple I've never played myself. That being said I'd be interested to hear what other's think in case I missed anything đ
Abi - Animal Crossing, she enjoys more cozy games and it would bring out her artistic side, creating her own clothes and decorating her house/town/island. She doesnât do anything extravagant but she plays a fair amount, she enjoys bug catching and visiting her favorite neighbors with gifts.
Dylan - The Legend of Zelda, nice mix of puzzles, action, and music depending on the game. He gets really into the new mechanics in BOTW and TOTK, going from creating really intricate mechanics to designing dick shaped machines. Perhaps projecting but Iâd say heâd have a soft spot for Twilight Princess (you can hold and talk to cats!)
Kaitlyn - Splatoon, the shooter of the Nintendo franchises. She meticulously goes through all the weapons in order to pick the best one depending on specials and sub weapons (she strikes me as a sniper). She also loves the idols and music and designing her squid with all the fresh fashion choices. She definitely makes it to ruler rank whenever she participates in Splatfests (and claims bullshit if her team loses).Â
Ryan - Pokemon, perhaps inspired by Justice being in Detective Pikachu, but as an aspiring animator heâd be interested in all the different Pokemon designs. When Ryan builds his team he gets really attached to them. Heâd never attempt a nuzlocke, heâs sticking with his whole team til the end. He of course loves the ghost types, but I think heâd also have something like Loudred or Golbat, something audio/sound related. He definitely plays a lot with Sarah.
Emma - Metroid, Emma is resourceful, working well under pressure and able to adapt to situations quickly, so when she takes the controller for Metroid she effortlessly switches from platforming to shooting, completely tearing the alien enemies to shreds. She loves Samus and probably got into the series for the leading lady. One of her favorite elements is the morph ball, but the arm canon might have it beat.
Jacob - WarioWare, while a more competitive game may seem like Jacobâs first choice I think if he had to choose a favorite heâd prefer the quick micro games that WarioWare has to offer. Itâs fun, fast, no time to think just DO. He also really enjoys the zany humor and eccentric characters. Itâs also a plus to play with others and can somehow still turn competitive, especially when playing with Nick.Â
Nick - Pikmin, Nick likes to go with the flow so he'd like something less fast paced but still something with some strategy. I think he'd find assigning Pikmin with their different abilities to various tasks satisfying. Since he also loves nature he'd enjoy the exploration element, as well. And really he just thinks the Pikmin are cute.
Laura - Animal Crossing, since sheâs interested in veterinary science sheâd probably enjoy the animal characters, Max most likely introduces her to the game for that reason. However, unlike Abi she plays it more seriously. She has to complete every task, pop every balloon, and fill the entire museum with every collectible. She has to stop playing when it cuts time into her personal productivity. She has a 5 star island.
Max - Yoshi, Max is definitely not a competitive player, he plays games that are more chill. He enjoys the straightforward mechanics of swallow enemies, throw eggs/yarn, with nothing too punishable or frustrating like with other tenser games. The vibrant, colorful world definitely doesnât hurt with all the cute smiling flowers, shy guys on stilts, and most importantly: Poochy.
All the counselors love Mario Party and Mario Kart, some less so than others as the game progresses and they continue to lose (Jacob).

I think something people overlook when talking about about Pepitoâs admins testimony is how the creation of the breakfast trio eggs seems to have been a last minute decision.
The admin talks about having to come up with Pepitoâs character in a short amount of time, and theyâve been assigned to a spanish speaking group of streamers despite not being a fluent spanish speaker (something you canât exactly hide, as it would have been very apparent during the hiring process).
Which would kind of explain something Iâve been wondering for a while : does Ryan (Sunny) speaks spanish ? And if not wouldnât that have been an issue as she was assigned Pol as one of her parents ? (Not saying this to be negative about Ryan they were the perfect person to play Sunny, just think it might have been a lack of foresight)
I guess the same thing could be asked about Empanada but I see it differently since her moms can speak 4-5 languages which would make it difficult to find someone who spoke all of them fluently. And Iâm biased because I adored seeing her and her moms teaching words to each other lol
Thank you for sharing!
This is a fair point. And one that I tried to address in my ask response because it is important. The og admin claimed she only had 2 days to come up with the character, I don't think she had time to research about the ccs she was asigned to.
I would like to address however something that the more I think, more I get bother about, is that Pepito was supposed to be a hispanic/latine character, that was something that the og admin try to sell with her character. I wouldn't said it is fair to compare with Em and Sunny relationships with their parents because Sunny wouldn't interact with Pol trying to pass as native spanish speaker(I don't even know if they know spanish), and Em also didn't try to pass as a native english speaker.
The problem was that first of all, the admin was rude with Roier in a moment out of rp and second of all, she try to pass the character as hispanic/latine, which would mean the character should have know not to behave like that with their parents. So inside and out of rp it wouldn't have made sense and would still be rude.
I will again say, I think maybe things would have been better if the admin could have been open about their nationality and about not being a native speaker. I can't blame the admin for this sole because I don't know if they were instructed to have their character be hispanic/latine, so I will leave at that.
I don't think it was 100% the admin fault, and maybe under better circustances maybe things could have been much different, sadly they weren't, and the admin offended Roier and his community as a result.
While getting the nuances of the circustances, and I hope we all don't villafy the admin as a result for one conversation they had in their entire life, the result was that they hurted someone, their insults were humilating and their atitute was offensive, that being their intentions or not.

What made Rhaenyra x Alicent so popular when it's very badly written and don't make sense story-wise?
To oversimplify it, and there is a lot of overlap:
A)
Because they donât know the actual canon story.Â
Some believe that because Ryan Condal and some of the show writers read Fire and Blood, they know what they are doing and whatâs presented on screen is what happened in canon. (This is dependent on them not caring to engage more and/or not being people who care to think more about what they are consuming).
B)
Because wish fulfillment.
These two women in canon lore where 9 years apart in age with Alicent being the older and hated each other. Because we have:
two women hating each other and fighting for power
the use of the evil stepmother trope
we have some people think these in of themselves indicate sexist writing. A case of women fighting each other because their womenhood makes them vulnerable to competing for scarce resources that men determine for them.
And many people feel that they could have been friends if only the men around them didnât force them into it. (Meanwhile, this was not the case at all and an extreme misunderstanding of medieval society.)
C)
Because misunderstanding feminism.
Some think that female friendships, by themselves, are enough to gainsay male aggression on a systematic level. Thus they find the relationship inspirational and ignore details or inconsistencies.Â
Despite the fact that Rhaenyra and Laena Velayron had a deep friendship in the canon lore. Maybe even a romantic connection. They connected after Laena and Daemon came back from Pentos to birth her last child. Gyldayn writes that:
Whilst Princess Rhaenyra misliked her stepmother, Queen Alicent, she [Rhaenyra] became fond and more than fond of her good-sister Lady Laena. With Driftmark and Dragonstone so close, Daemon and Laena oft visited with the princess, and her with them. Many a time they flew together on their dragons, and the princessâs she-dragon Syrax produced several clutches of eggs. In 118 AC, with the blessing of King Viserys, Rhaenyra announced the betrothal of her two eldest sons to the daughters of Prince Daemon and Lady Laena. Jacaerys was four and Lucerys three, the girls two. And in 119 AC, when Laena found she was with child again, Rhaenyra flew to Driftmark to attend her during the birth.
(Fire and Blood; A Question of Succession)
This is our canon female friendship of the Dance, which makes so much more sense with their shared personality trait -- daring -- and genuine love for dragonriding.Â
I do not want to say that the people who do ship Rhaenyra and Alicent -- or the actors who played them who acted as if these two characters did have some sort of pseudo-romance -- are all brainless. I mean to say that some donât bother to actually get to know, analyze, or read between the lines of the text for the sake of shipping and superficial enjoyment from seeing two women share intimacy where before, in the canon, they were enemies since Rhaenyra was 10.
They see women-as-enemies as unrealistic or simplistic when the story and context is anything but. If anything, the story shows us the multiplicity of women...you know because they are human. Who want power and still be flawed (Rhaenyra) or evil (Alicent).Â
Basically, they think that making a saint or pacifying women is feminism. When itâs actually pedestalizing them and making men ânaturalâ aggressors. And making women into passion-less, ambitious-less pawns for men to use AND assigning their worth to how and when they have sex.
This idea of men-evil-and-women-helpless/pacifists is prevalent in our current society (consider this POST by @rhaenyragendereuphoria).
D)Â
Because some are very anti-intellectual and anti-feminism. Misgoynists.
They hate that their idea of femininity is being criticized. This ideal of women-want-power instead of simply being a good wife, mother, âsoftâ, etc.
E)
Because there are those who genuinely just find both Emma DâArcy and Olivia Cooke are very attractive and see the show as just something to be apart of the zeitgeist of.Â
They donât want to engage any deeper than that.Â
Some might feel âattackedâ and dig in their heels and try to find justification to keep shipping the two. Pride then may come into it.
F)
Because performative activism, capitalism and marketing.Â
This POST by @brideoffires. Quote:
Itâs all part of this phenomenon of liberal identity politics oriented fandom âactivismâ which takes âcritical capitalist consumptionâ as a form of ethical social justice. Capitalist consumption is rendered acceptable under neoliberalism if it conforms to specific parameters, such as identity and representation politics, so nowadays everyone canât read literature or watch film without looking for ways that they are problematic on an individual level (without looking at, for example, how these books or shows may be written by people funded by imperialist weapons manufacturing companies or finance capital companies).
But by all means, use this as a place to begin to learn more about performative activism. Come to your own conclusions and be open to discussion.

So I vaguely remember reading in the book ages ago that they assume a dragon to be male if it never lays eggs. Does that mean the dragons are just arbitrarily assigned a gender when they're hatched or is someone risking life and limb to find out for sure knowing that they could be wrong? lol
See also : "Questions Corlys asks at 3am staring at the ceiling and making Rhaenys laugh"
Ahahahahaha oh you know he'd ask her so many weird questions about dragons, or she'd casually drop some random info and his head would explode attempting to process it đ€Ż
I believe that dragon gender is a HOTLY contested subject. On one hand, yes the default seems to be to regard them as male unless they've been shown to lay a clutch of eggs (I SO BADLY want to know if/when Meleys laid a clutch of eggs). But there's another school of thought that dragon gender is very different from humans, and they can kinda flip back and forth at will, or maybe cycle like certain fish? So none of it truly matters?
Granted, the info we do have from the books is a bunch of maesters yelling opinions at one another. đ€Ł We'd be better off asking GRRM or even Ryan Condal how it works.

Normal Midnight Chaos
Itâs 12: 16 am. I am sitting in my dusty bed under my dusty mosquito net in my dusty town which I at once adore and is the bain of my existence. I am listening to my host mom softly snore from across the hallway (our bedrooms have windows to the inside of the house so you can always hear everyone). I am surfing youtube and happily settle on 1989 the album. Taylorâs Version was announced today to come out in October. I am excited, I can remember so clearly blaring every song with Julia and Antonia, we had just graduated high school and thought we were so cool.
This race in Newhall was awesome- it was so rainy and so many varsity girls fell down the hill. Everyone was covered in mud and soaked to the bone. Then they cut out the muddy/hilly part for the varsity boys race which was afterwards. (losers)
Today was a strange day, although not unusual. All in all a typical Peace Corps day. Unlike most midnights, I am enjoying my 25 gigabytes a month to listen to 1989 and type up a hopefully-quality-blogpost. I canât sleep. Possibly because of the brownies I made today with Ryan. Usually sugar doesnât affect my body but I guess I ate too many (just 5?) brownies. Iâll blame the âchocolate-flavored chipsâ that we use for their cheap price. Who knows what those are made of. Or maybe itâs because I drank one teaspoon of instant coffee today. Or maybe itâs because there are so many striking, beautiful moments in my days, and also so many startling, uncomfortable moments. In addition recently we had a tragedy over here in Peru.
First Iâll tell you about my day. I woke up took out my retainers and opened my door⊠there was my 5-month old teenage kitten meowing at me right away. Michicucho followed me as I drank some boiled water - there was no milk :/ and ate a piece of french bread with REAL BUTTER!! I made my bed (wow!) and got out some baking items. Ryan Reynolds (I recently turned in a report and didnât realize I referred to my site partner as Ryan Reynolds in it. His last name in Lenhart.) Ryan Reynolds showed up at 9:45 am to bake some brownies - despite being in Calango almost a full year this is probably only the second time we hang out just the two of us outside of work. So we talked about Peru and Peace Corps and our expectations vs reality. We are both happy to be growing as people and learning new perspectives and ways of life. I hadnât wanted a site mate but in the end Iâm grateful that Ryan is here!
Now Peruvian ovens are tricky - they usually donât reach as high temperatures so you need to bake your goods for a long time. Once they were finally done it was lunch time! After I ate 5 brownies and Ryan licked the bowl, he left with most of the brownies. My host mom came home with rice, mashed potatoes, and chicken soup from the comedor popular (like a soup kitchen). I made a lemonade - I can never get the lemon to sugar ratio perfect enough for my host brother! At this point I just try my best, there isnât more I can do. And my host mom made me a fried egg to eat with the rice and potatoes. Iâve changed in a year because I did enjoy this lunch.
Throughout the morning I was also checking in with my host mom and counterparts, because I had a meeting with the mayor at 12, but he was at a reservoir inauguration so i had to wait for him and my counterparts to return. After lunch (2 pm) I went to the municipality to wait for them. Finally I was able to present my community project at about 4 or 4:30 pm. Unfortunately, they are stressed, busy, and understaffed, so I was rushed through my presentation. My counterparts werenât able to come because they had other work to do, in the room nextdoor, as well as because the timing was so impromptu. But the project was accepted. I mean, Iâll be applying to a Peace Corps grant, so who wouldnât accept free outside money. Then I tried to have a small meeting with my counterparts to assign some responsibilities in the project and agree on a timeline. But itâs pretty much iMPOSSIBLE to get even 3 of them in the same room for more than 7 minutes. Then I walked 30 seconds to one of my friends houseâs to bs about work and life. We walked up towards a bakery by my house to drown my sorrows in some warm french bread. Then I came home, managed to open my front door with the key - We recently changed the lock and I havenât been able to open it all week. I shared brownies with my host mom and brother, held my crazy cat, and watched my favorite tv show Al Fondo Hay Sitio. But in Al Fondo Hay Sitio there are some really idiotic characters, and today showcased characters who were racist or classist. So it was making me angry. Then I spoke with my creative and lovely friends Alex and Carmen on googlemeet (weird), and finally to my parents. Even though family can be so frustrating sometimes, FaceTiming my parents always brings me joy.
I put my laptop and myself under my thick blankets in case my typing is bothering my host mom. Itâs now 12:41 am. Fortunately most people in Peru are very used to loud noise all over the place. So Iâm probably fine. Actually the acceptable public loudness in Peru is one thing that I ⊠hate.Â
Everything I did today was pretty trivial, so why did I bother sharing it? Well, it just had so many moments of joy and hope. and so many moments of frustration, sadness, or anger. I think it all felt exaggerated in my mind due to the fake-chocolate-drugged brownies (am I old or allergic?)Â Regardless, I finally felt today that my community project makes sense. All of the puzzle pieces came together. But there is also so little support for it. The people I am looking for donât have a lot of time to give me. I canât blame them for not wanting to do extra work which isnât even in their job description.Â
I was going to talk about TRAGEDY in this post but itâs already a post on itâs own! Looks like thatâll be coming up. Donât worry, Iâm perfectly okay. And so is everyone I love.Â
12:57 am. Hopefully now I can sleep deeply.

(Valentina's POV)(Summary: Valentina is the 2nd oldest of Claire and Ryan's 10 children. She's married to Eric Townsend and they have 4 children, and she's currently pregnant)
This pregnancy has been flying by! I'm now in my second trimester, at the end of my first trimester we had a heartbeat scan and were told by the nurse that I'm pregnant with twins! When they did the first scan the position of the babies meant that they only caught one heartbeat, so it was a pleasant surprise when they did that second scan and found 2. This being my second twin pregnancy back to back means that I've already experienced the usual growing pains that come with being pregnant with twins. I always wonder whether they'll be identical or not, my mother had 2 pairs of twins and both sets were identical. Abbott and Asher are identical, so I wonder if these two will also be identical or fraternal, I also wonder what the gender combination will be. I'd love to have girls for Aria to have younger sisters, two girls would take us to 3 girls and 3 boys which would also be great purely for the satisfaction of having even numbers of both. Whatever these babies are, as long as they're happy and healthy, I shall be grateful.
As the twins get older, I've been working to incorporate more school into their day so that they can start their school day with Aria and Ansel as they get older. Whilst the older two kids are doing their focused reading time or doing work that they don't need help with, I focus on reading to the toddlers to get them where I need them to be before the toddlers come and things get a bit more chaotic.
We've recently got chickens and everyone is delighted! Before we got the chickens we had the kids study chickens in their science classes, and both Ansel and Aria helped build the chicken coop with Eric. Having the chickens will give us fresh eggs, right now we have two hens, one rooster, and a chick. We're hoping that to get hatchable eggs so we can increase the number of chickens without having to buy them. It'll also be a great opportunity to teach the kids science as to how animals reproduce and the different kinds of reproduction in animals. They will also teach the children responsibility, Aria and Ansel take turns waking up early and collecting eggs from the coop before they start their morning chores and breakfast. Eric is responsible for cleaning the coop due to the amount of effort it takes, and as the children grow older they can have more of an active part in chicken care.
It's great to be able to go out and bond with the chickens, sometimes I'll go in and find some eggs that the kids might have missed. Other times I head out and bond with the animals, I recently read a book that said that the quality of eggs will increase as you bond with your chickens. The hens are a lot friendlier than the rooster, but we're hoping he'll come round. We haven't named them yet, but that's something we're assigning the children as a project to name the chickens we currently have.
Madelynn is the furthest in her pregnancy out of her, Sabrina, and me. Recently she had a baby shower, she and Carter chose to find out that they were having earlier on in her pregnancy. So when they found out they were having a girl, the ladies at their church hosted a baby shower for her as due to her first two children being boys, she had no girls clothes. My mother as well as Madelynn's mother were able to attend the baby shower which is such a blessing for her, this baby is my parent's 10th grandchild, and the 4th girl to be born into the family.
She and Carter are so excited to have a baby girl, someone joked that Carter should start preparing his shotgun now for when the boys start to come calling for her a few years down the line. Madelynn is excited to have a little girl to dress up in frilly dresses and all the hairbows and hair ties that come with having a little girl. The boys are also excited to have a little sister, Lester has promised that he'll be her protector forever, which just melts my heart with how cute it is. Since the Crawford's are still in town, Sabrina and I are having our baby showers as a joint party in a few weeks. It's so exciting being pregnant at the same time!

Call Me By Your Name: Chapter 1
âMommy.â Isabellaâs small voice rang through the one bedroom apartment. Isabella was Ameliaâs daughter. Ryan had passed but he had left Amelia with a daughter.
Isabella had Ryanâs dark hair but Ameliaâs natural beach waves, with a perfect mix of bright and light blue eyes from both her parents.
Amelia had lost her job due to her drug habits with Ryan years before. She lived in a small one bedroom apartment with Isabella, no matter how hard it got Amelia made sure Isabella had food and clothes.
The clothes were mainly hand me downs and the food was not as great as it could be. Isabella being young still did not mind. Deep down Amelia wished she had been careful and cared more so that Isabella could everything that Henry or Zola and Bailey had.
âWhat do you want for breakfast beauty?â Amelia asked as she picked Isabella up.
âPancakes.â Isabella gave Amelia a big smile, no matter how stressed, tired or worried Amelia got about their financial situation, looking at Isabellaâs face gave her a reason to keep going.
She reminded her, Isabella was her baby and deserved the whole world. Isabella hadnât asked for any of this and she wanted to be able to give her the world.
Amelia made pancakes as Isabella watched her, Isabella being young had no idea what kind of stress Amelia carried on herself.
Addison offered to let them stay at her house, Amelia did not want to admit defeat- but mostly didnât want Isabella to grow up hating her for not being able to give her everything that Henry had.
âMommy, we have to do this assignment for school so where did my name come from?â Isabella asked as she poured the syrup onto her pancakes.
âWell you first name is Isabella and I thought it was very pretty, then Ryan was your daddyâs name. I wanted you to have that as a part of yours.â Amelia smiled as she watched Isabella eat.
As Isabella ate, Amelia flipped through the pile of mail. Her heart raced and her palms sweat as she saw the amount of bills she had to pay.
She had a job as a waitress but that was barely putting food on the table and Amelia did not want to have to admit defeat.
In Ameliaâs mind- she was a grown up with a child. She should be able to give Isabella the world.
-
Amelia quickly tied her apron onto her waist and grabbed her notepad. The worst part of this job was that sometimes people she knew would come and she would have to be their waitress.
A man with sandy blonde hair, ocean blue eyes and in a dress shirt and pants sat in the booth.
âHi Iâm Amelia, what can I get you to drink?â Amelia asked putting on her best smile, the nicer you were the better the tips.
âHi Amelia, Iâll take just a coffee. Decaf please.â The man smiled, setting his menu down.
âComing right up.â Amelia said as she mentally took note of his drink order before walking to the kitchen to grab it for him.
Amelia came back and slid the cup to him. He looked up and gave her a small smile, his blue eyes glistening when he did.
âWhat can I get for you?â Amelia asked as she took out her pen, clicking it so she could write.
âThe pancakes and eggs. Eggs over-light please.â The man smiled closing his menu, handing it to Amelia.
âComing right up-â Amelia said pausing, realizing she didnât catch his name.
âAtticus Lincoln, but you can call me Link.â Link said as he clasped his hands together.
âNice to meet you Link. That will be right out.â Amelia said before sticking her notebook into her pocket and walking away.
As Link was getting ready to leave, he waved to Amelia and flashed her a smile.
Nice eyes, good hair, not that any of that mattered obviously. Amelia was trying to be present for Isabella.
âBye Amelia.â Link called as he walked out the restaurant.
âBye Link.â Amelia said quietly as the door shut.
It was late when Amelia got home, she hated late nights. They made her feel like she was missing Isabellaâs life.
âThank you. Iâll pay you back.â Amelia said as she sat her purse onto the small table.
âDonât mention it. I love you guys.â Addison said pulling Amelia into a hug.
âThank you still.â Amelia said.
âIâm out. Sheâs asleep.â Addison smiled, picking her purse up.
âBye.â Amelia waved, walking to the bedroom. To see Isabellaâs tiny chest fall and rise.
âI love you baby girl.â Amelia whispered, pushing a piece of hair out of Isabellaâs face.
Amelia kissed Isabellaâs cheek, before getting in the shower. Afterwards Amelia sat on the couch, trying to figure out how she was going to make it work this month.
Amelia felt tears roll down her face. She wanted to give Isabella the entire world. But she could barely keep food on the table and a roof over their heads.
âMommy?â Isabellaâs voice said as she clutched her teddy bear.
âHi baby girl.â Amelia quickly wiped her tears.
âI missed you.â Isabella said crawling into Ameliaâs lap, wrapping her small arms around Ameliaâs neck.
âI missed you too baby. Mommyâs home now.â Amelia said running her fingers through Isabellaâs beach waves.
âI love you Mommy. So much.â Isabella said sleepily.
âI love you more my Isabella.â Amelia kissed her cheek.

A Family Wedding - Part 4
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3
Rating: Teen
Summary: Jenny meets her mumsâ friends and the wedding is drawing to an end
Warnings: Some innuendo and the dagger makes another appearance, also consummation of alcohol
Words: ~3000
AO3
Eventually, they made their way back to the party. The Doctor wanted to introduce her daughter to some of her friends and the Ponds had agreed that her and River couldnât completely ignore their duty as hosts. Thus, Jenny spent the rest of the very long night talking to an endless number of people who were important to her mum in one way or another.
__
Bill and Heather immediately decided they were basically cousins and had to get together for space trips some time. Bill wrote her number onto a napkin and made Jenny promise she would get a phone so they could stay in contact. She also talked a lot about the eyebrows-version of her mum, saying it was a shame Jenny missed him. But at least now she got two badass mums and according to Bill, that was pretty perfect when it came to parents.
__
Missy, her mumâs best woman, casually mentioned she should abduct Jenny, as it would be the perfect leverage over her mum. This remark made Amy threaten her with the cake knife while Rory protectively put his arms around Jenny. Missy made a point of ignoring Jennyâs grandparents, promising Jenny would meet one of her regenerations again soon.
âYour mum is obsessed with me, Honeybunchâ she said, trailing her nails over the blade of Amyâs knife thoughtfully, âIâm sure she will come running again with you in tow to foil my next brilliant plan. She canât let me be on my own for a second. Itâs quite embarrassing, really.â
She gave a little dramatic sigh at this, pushing the knife away to move past Jenny. âShe just loves me so much.â
__
Kate Lethbridge-Stewart and Petronella Osgood were luckily part of an earlier version of UNIT than the one, Jenny had enraged. They were fascinated by her and she had to describe in great detail how the machine worked that had birthed her.
âNow, Kateâ the Doctor warned her when she walked by and overheard, âDonât you dare try building that device. I will come and destroy it, I promise you.â
Prompted by Jennyâs heartbroken gaze she explained why she was against the machine, recounting how it had been used to produce soldiers, dispensable to die in a day.
âMaybe I should build one then, the next time you are not traceable, Doctorâ Kate joked to the Doctorâs affront, âJust so youâll come running.â
__
Clara tried teaching Jenny the names of her Gallifreyan relatives. Apparently, she had met some of the Doctorâs family when she had been something she called an âechoâ. It was quite confusing, really, because the Doctor kept contradicting her and neither of them were really sure how many siblings, nieces and nephews Jenny had in total. It was still great fun to see them argue whether the people they remembered actually existed and how they were related to her.
__
Captain Jack Harkness got as far as introducing himself to Jenny, when the Doctor already shot in between them.
âBack off my daughter, Jackâ she growled, pressing both her palms into his chest to physically keep him from touching Jenny.
âYour daughter?â Jack asked, his eyebrows wandering up to his hairline.
âMy daughter, Jennyâ her mum presented proudly, just to return to her strict voice the next second, âAnd you are not to flirt with her.â
âI was just saying âhelloâ!â Jack complained which made her almost strangle him.
âIanto Jonesâ the man next to Jack presented himself to Jenny very softly, considering the wrestling couple with quiet confusion and some distress, âHis boyfriend.â
âAhâ Jenny said, grimacing, âSo sorry for this.â
That made Ianto smile.
âRight back at youâ he murmured.
__
Martha and Mickey found Jenny, when she was sharing a piece of wedding cake with River, expressing their relief that Jenny seemed welcome in the family. They talked about Donna for a while and Jenny learned that their friend had lost her memories after saving the Earth from Daleks.
Her mum recounted how when the Doctor first met her, Donna had been there, too. They exchanged a few stories about her, unanimously deciding they would have loved to know her better. Martha and Mickey said they sometimes checked up on her.
"Only from afar, though" Martha sighed. "She can't see us or else her memories might get triggered."
She and Mickey then told Jenny about their job, how they were freelancers now, hunting hostile aliens.
"Sounds fun" River commented and Jenny had to agree.
"You could join us some time" Martha offered, "Both of you."
"Really?" Jenny asked delightedly, grabbing River's arm in excitement.
"Of course" Mickey grinned, "It always pays to have some backup."
They added their phone number to Billâs on the napkin and promised to let Jenny know the next time they had an interesting assignment.
__
âHow is everyone immediately adopting me?â Jenny asked Yaz, Ryan and Graham, when they had proclaimed her part of the âfamâ as soon as they heard she was the Doctorâs daughter.
She had already gotten the invite to travel with Bill and Heather, Clara and Me and to live with her grandparents, Martha and Mickey, Jack and Ianto, Sarah Jane Smith and even the Paternoster Gang, although she had tried to avoid them after the pudding incident.
"The Doctor is family" Ryan shrugged. "Which means you're family, too."
The other two nodded in agreement.
âAnd we all know you can use the support with her being your motherâ Ryan continued with a low chuckle, and Jenny stared at him with wide eyes.
âItâs nothing badâ he hurried to appease, âThe Doctorâs great, sheâs justâŠâ
âThe Doctorâ Graham finished, and Ryan nodded as if all was said now.
âSheâs a little chaoticâ Yaz tried to explain.
Graham snorted, âYeah, right, a little.â
âAnd irresponsibleâ Yaz added, âAnd most of the time you canât understand a thing of what sheâs doing or saying. And the things she doesâŠthey tend to go wrong.â
âBut sheâs wonderfulâ Ryan said and the other two nodded again.
ââBrilliantââ Graham said with a low chuckle.
âSheâs the best person I knowâ Yaz ended with a smile and Jenny found herself returning it.
âAnd youâll have River and me travelling with youâ Yaz concluded, gently nudging her with her elbow, âWeâll take care of you and among the three of us, weâll also manage to take care of her.â
__
Jenny was just talking to a head in a box and a nice couple owning an antiquarian bookstore, when her mums approached her. They were exchanging conspirative glances and the Doctor was hiding her hands behind her back, so Jenny immediately decided whatever they were up to was more interesting than the blonde guyâs obsession with easter eggs. She excused herself and made her way over to her mums.
âRiver said you might still feel insecure about whether the TARDIS is your homeâ the Doctor said without greeting, âSo, I got you a gift.â
She revealed a tiny package from behind her back with great flourish. It wasnât much bigger than her thumb, obviously wrapped in leftovers from her own wedding gifts. Without knowing what was inside, Jenny decided it couldnât have been more perfect.
âThank youâ she beamed and hurried to open her present.
Unfortunately, that was almost impossible for the amount of tape her mum had used. Now that she paid attention to it, it became apparent the Doctor had fought quite the fight against the tape - strips of it were also sticking to her suit jacket and her forearms. One even made its way into Riverâs hair and Jenny dreaded the moment she would find out about it. Luckily, she missed it when she wordlessly reached into her hairdo upon seeing Jenny struggling. She pulled out the mini dagger again, handing it over to her. With its help, the tape and wrapping paper soon were torn, and a silver key fell into Jennyâs hand.
âItâs for the TARDISâ the Doctor explained. âNow you can come and go whenever you like and stay as long as you like.â
âAnd once Iâve shown you how to fly her you can also use it to take the TARDIS out on your own whenever you likeâ River supplemented, and the Doctor glared at her.
âDonât you dare encourage Jenny to steal my TARDIS!â she grumbled, âItâs bad enough when you do it.â
Then she turned and beamed at Jenny again. âBut yeah, pretty much: Welcome to the TARDIS!â
Jenny felt herself tear up a little, clutching the key tightly. It was real! She had a family and a home and she was welcome.
She pulled both her mums into a hug, smiling when they embraced her tightly.
âThank you so muchâ she murmured.
Suddenly, an aggressive flash blinded her.
âOops, sorryâ Bill said, lowering a vintage looking camera from her face. âIt wasnât supposed to do that.â
She fumbled with the flash a little bit until Heather took over and switched it off. When Bill raised her gaze again and noticed the whole family was still staring at her, she blushed.
âDonât mind meâ, she said. âIâm just repaying a favour. Have been taking pictures all night. You will want something to remember this day by, Doctor. And yeah, I recalled what you did for me with my mum and thoughtâŠI should do that for you, too.â
She smiled sheepishly and the Doctor looked like she was about to melt.
âThat is a lovely idea, Billâ River found, pulling Jenny and the Doctor close again to pose for another shot, âYou know what? We should get my parents and do a proper family photo!â
âDid I hear family photo?â Jack said, miraculously turning up behind Bill with Ianto in tow. âCanât do that without uncle Jack!â
âOh, they most definitely canâ Missy chuckled, appearing next to him. âThis is not about you, puppy. Itâs just for real family members. Like me.â
She pushed past him, positioning herself next to the Doctor and facing the camera with a thin but content smile. âIâm ready when you are, Loves.â
âUh, yeah, thatâs not happeningâ Jack decided, joining Riverâs side and slinging his arm around her waist, pulling Ianto with him into the frame.
While Bill shot the photo, Jenny could see more guests taking notice, some approaching them fairly quickly.
âSeems like everybody wants to have their picture taken with youâ River whispered to her and Jenny chuckled.
âI am 100% certain itâs about you and mumâ she answered although she couldnât deny she felt important in the middle of the frame that more and more people crowded into.
âYou should be in the picture, Billâ the Doctor called out when Sarah Jane was ushering a couple of teenagers and a metal dog to sit down in front of them. âIf anyoneâs family, itâs you! Just give the camera to Nardole.â
âYeah, thank you, Maâamâ Nardole frowned. âAlways a pleasure to know how much you appreciate me.â
He still took the camera from Bill and she and Heather hurried to the space the Doctor and Jenny cleared between them. It was a little tight now as Missy refused to budge but Jenny just threw one arm around River and the other around Bill and smiled for the photo Nardole shot of them.
It took a while until everybody who wanted to be in the photo had found their place and someone had tracked down a waitress to take the picture. In the meantime, a lot of quirky photos were shot by and of various combinations of the Doctorâs friends. Later they would be glued to the walls of the TARDIS hallways and Jenny would come back to them often to trail the faces of her mumsâ loved ones and remember the night.
There would be a picture of Mickey and Martha kissing with Amy photobombing behind them, a picture of Wilf and Rory having exchanged their suit jackets and beaming like idiots and a picture of Jenny, Bill, Heather, Nardole, Yaz and Ryan in a group hug that Graham took as a very blurry selfie. There would be a picture of when Jack had decided to hoist Jenny onto his shoulders and another one of when Clara, Ryan and Yaz had followed suit, respectively carrying the Doctor, Graham and Bill on their backs with varying degrees of success.
Then there would be a picture of Jenny with her namesake which had made them giggle way too much, and another picture that the other Jenny had taken of her with Vastra and Strax, because âno-one would see the differenceâ. Which was an even sillier joke but made Jenny understand how much she liked the Paternoster gang after all. Especially because Vastra and Jenny had promised her fencing lessons between the shots.
There would be a picture of her mums kissing both of Missyâs cheeks simultaneously while Missy wore a decidedly unimpressed expression, a picture of Kate, Osgood, Martha and the Doctor trying to evoke an air of semi-professionalism as âUNIT-representativesâ that was completely ruined by the mess of people goofing around behind them and finally the Pond family picture River had asked for. They had to take three versions: one featuring Missy, one Jack and one on which both had begrudgingly left them alone.
But Jennyâs favourite photo would always be the one they took in the end, before everybody dispersed and went on to enjoy the party. The big group photo, with her mums in the focus and everyone surrounding them. The photo they took while she was standing right beside them, between her grandparents, Roryâs arm around her shoulder and Amyâs hand in hers and the happiest smiles possible on all their faces.
__
Then it was finally time to leave. Almost all the guests had gone and Clara and Ashildr were collecting the last of them in their diner-shaped TARDIS. All that was left now were Jenny, her parents and her grandparents.
âWeâre takingâŠthe kidâŠwith usâ Amy said. She was slurring and Jenny presumed she had found another bottle of vodka.
âNo, why?â the Doctor complained, clutching at Jennyâs arm. She seemed a little drunk as well, although Jenny couldnât fathom how. There had been next to no alcohol in the pink drinks. âIâve let you have her the whole evening already.â
âJenny will come visit us soonâ Rory tried to reassure Amy. His ductus was considerably clearer than hers, but he was swaying a little as well. âShe has promised, remember?â
Jennyâs hearts swell a little when she understood Amy must have recounted their discussion on the balcony to him. Theyâd been talking about her!
âWeâre still -taking herâ Amy decided, âOr do I needoâŠ- do I need to remind you âŠwhat happened in our wedding night?â
âI didâ River supplemented smirking. Rory went very pale while Jenny shrieked, hiding her face in Riverâs shoulder.
Her mum chuckled, pressing a kiss to the top of her head.
âGo with your grandparents, Loveâ she advised, pulling her into a hug and kissing her cheek, when Jenny looked up at her, âHave a splendid night at their place and weâll see you tomorrow.â
âThanks, mumâ she grinned, returning the kiss to the cheek. Then she turned around to the Doctor.
âWeâll come pick you up first thing in the morningâ her mum said, holding her tightly, âI promise.â
âI knowâ Jenny murmured, amazed by how sure she was of that now, âHave a good night, mum.â
âOh, she willâ River said. The Doctror spluttered and Jenny tensed.
âMu-um!â she complained, giving her a stern glance. Still, she couldnât help smiling, when she added: âI hate you!â
River threw her head back laughing.
âNo, you donâtâ she said.
âWeâll be there tomorrowâ the Doctor repeated when she let Jenny go.
âFor onceâŠ-I am hoping, sh-she will be a month lateâ Amy murmured, pressing Jenny to her side and thus swaying her lightly.
âHow about breakfast at the Ponds together? As a compromise?â the Doctor offered, and Jenny nodded quickly.
âThat sounds perfectâ she said, and her mum beamed at her.
âBreakfast it is, thenâ she decided, âDonât you lot worry, I can bring the custard creams.â
âYeah, give us till noon, though, Doctorâ Rory mumbled, âIâll need a lot of sleep now.â
âWeâre not goingdo - going to sleepâ Amy complained, âWeâll have an afda-afterparty. Movies,⊠facemasks, goss-gosspip.â
She pulled a face at her own slurring which made Jenny chuckle.
âYeah, you donât really b-believe that eitherâ Rory commented, gently taking her arm and steering her towards Claraâs TARDIS. He stopped himself to yawn loudly and reach for Jennyâs hand. âLetâs get all of us to bed.â
They waved goodbye and then Jenny took Roryâs hand and followed her grandparents to the diner. Before they passed the TARDIS, she turned around one last time, seeing her mums standing in the ever-setting sun on Darillium. They were facing each other, Riverâs hand cupping the Doctorâs cheek, the Doctorâs hands on her shoulders and talking in quiet voices. They seemed perfectly comfortable with each other, exhausted, but happy, like they had finally arrived home after a very long journey.
âWe all haveâ Jenny thought, when they started slowly kissing and she turned around to her grandparents again, âWeâve all come home now.â

Batwoman has already covered quite a lot of ground in its second season, both through the introduction of Ryan Wilder (Javicia Leslie), and the further expansion of the show's Gotham City mythos. In the first three episodes of the season, fans have seen that manifest in some epic Easter eggs and character introductions -- and it looks like that will soon come to a head in a major way. The CW has released a new synopsis for "Gore on Canvas", the fifth episode of Batwoman's second season. The synopsis, which you can check out below, hints at an ongoing storyline tied to the painting discovered on the cell phone of Kate Kane (Ruby Rose), which seems to have some sort of tie to Safiyah Sohail (Shivaani Ghai) and the pirate nation of Coryana. Interestingly, that painting was seemingly created by Jack Napier, also known as the Arrowverse's version of The Joker.
"THE SECRETS UNDERNEATH - Batwoman (Javicia Leslie) is approached by Commander Kane (Dougray Scott) and Agent Moore (Meagan Tandy) to boost an infamous work of art that reveals the way to Coryana - and Kate. Despite her reservations, Luke (Camrus Johnson) and Mary (Nicole Kang) convince Ryan to take the assignment, causing tensions within the Bat-team to escalate. Meanwhile, as Alice (Rachel Skarsten) attempts to fulfill Safiyah's (guest star Shivaani Ghai) insidious request, she slowly discovers that she may not remember everything about her time on Coryana. Norma Bailey directed the episode written by Daniel Thomsen."
The idea of Ryan's Batwoman having to work with The Crows is definitely interesting, especially considering the fact that the corruption within their organization is what led to Ryan being sent to prison years ago. That -- combined with the expectations The Crows might have of Batwoman, especially now that Jacob and Sophie know Kate previously served in the role, could lead to some messy dynamics.
"She's head-first at everything, and I actually love that about her," Leslie told reporters during a recent virtual press conference for the season. "I love how messy that can come across, because she has to find a way to hone it. She has to find a way to focus. But I think that that's what makes her so special, because she's very authentic. She's very raw. She's very grounded in her beliefs. And really, it's going to take root. It's going to take Mary to show her there's a bigger picture, and sometimes that bigger picture will not involve getting justice for your mother. That's the journey that she has to go on, to be able to forgive, or maybe she doesn't."
