Okay. So the main character of my Snow Spirit story (working title) is an aroace who's thoroughly repulsed by both things

The guy who seems like he's gonna be the big bad is a kid (teenager) her age who has a scary powerful spellbook and is terrifyingly good at strategy. But it turns out that he's scared of his own legal guardian (for good reason) and has just been trying to set up a way for him to get away from his evil grandfather (the legal guardian) while maintaining his own usefulness (to survive in the meantime) this whole time. He doesn't trust adults. He doesn't respect other children. All he has is the little bit of safety he can ensure himself by making himself indispensable to his grandfather, using his magic to help with the man's criminal activity.

Cool

But the type of magic his spellbook teaches is not healthy to use this often, especially by someone this young. If he keeps this up (read: if he can't escape in time) it will kill him. Freezing him from the inside the way smoking suffocates you.

Diabolical of me

In their conflicts, the MC tries to stop the harm he's causing for his grandfather's sake. He first dismisses her (for being another kid), and then begrudgingly admits she's troublesome enough to address directly, and then comes to DESPISE her, angry and terrified of what will happen if she actually defeats him. But he does realize he’s also very impressed by her. That she has an inventiveness and an interest in the arcane that he had long since given up the hope that other children might share with him. He begrudgingly begins to respect and even admire her for this.

The basis for one of my favorite types of friendship dynamics, honestly.

At some point, MC finds out about his living conditions, why he’s really doing all this (I don’t know what this is yet.) What’s happening to him because of the magic. (Like the equivalent of the Northwest Manner episode of Gravity Falls) And she’s horrified for him. She resolves to help him find a way out. He is not to blame for any of this after all. They become allies and best friends after that (the thing he needs the most right now.)

Wholesome, that bit. Best of hurt comfort type stuff.

I think, on an unrelated note, some other time when I wasn’t thinking about his relationship to MC: "if his body is freezing from the inside out and therefore freezing to the touch, I bet it would be very strange and interesting to touch him in a way that is meant to be tender, or to comfort. Imagine it being painfully cold to hold his hand or kiss him or something else intimate, but doing it anyway because you care about giving him this and that's more important." Plus, just the idea of kissing someone and it being cold actually is interesting.

Interesting dynamic.

I feel like he would be a lot like me when it comes to romantic relationships and gestures. He would never think of pursuing someone else and even though he would recognize a romantic gesture, it wouldn't mean anything significantly more than platonic ones. But if someone he enjoyed the company of asked him on a date, or to kiss him, he wouldn't refuse. (He doesn't know this yet because there's never been anyone he enjoys the company of before.) He would not mind engaging with that person in a romantic flavored way.

So if he was comfortable enough with whoever tried to give him the comforting touch, he would accept it. And it would affect him deeply because this boy is starved for any sort of connection at all.

I look around for any character who cares about him and who he's also comfortable enough around to let kiss him.

Starting to see something more and more in other fandoms but it’s also brewing within Sauron fandom which is I don’t get villianfuckers who are deluded or in denial about the fact their fav is a villain.

Then woobify them to the gods until they resemble very closely of the “good” ML they hate lowkey which is funny.

Your fav did some pretty heinous fucking shit and should be either dead or punished severely for it and that’s what I advocate for in my villain favs cause I ain’t a PUSSY

Sauron is a villain. The reason we like him is because he’s a villain. He chooses villainy when he’s given many chances not to. I genuinely don’t get the urge of wanting to redeem him. Yes he’s complex with a lot of feelings and nuance but he doesn’t want to be redeemed. He’s not an ambiguous anti villain by the time we are in Second Age/Third Age. He’s not Adar

The serious woobification (not the semi-joking kind) needs to stop and frankly it’s lowkey insulting.

Something that really frustrates me is that even WRITING aro/ace rep is hard to get across without using exact terminology because "I'm not interested in romantic/sexual relationships" is so often used as a precursor to said character finding "the one." Which could definitely fall into the aro/ace spectrum, but it's so often interpreted in the most amatonormative way ever that I don’t know if I can even make readers understand that yes, this character is, in fact, aro/ace.
