Human lives… are such a fleeting thing. They are simple most of the time; filled only with those experiences that mortal creatures such as humans can fit into the handful of years that they live. But those experiences are beautiful- filled with awe and wonder that beings like demons –beings like [Name]– will never be able to understand the novelty or significance of. Humanity was like the creeping kudzu¹; growing fast and living prosperously, yet they left so much destruction in their wake. But [Name] knew, that not all of them are so terrible.

From his home on Mt. Shizunda², the dragon watched the goings-on of the humans in the village below. Ame Village³; the name being one of the consequences of his being here, was a small fishing settlement. There were only a small handful of families that made up the village's residents, but [Name] remembered each and every one of them, no matter how many generations have passed. He remembered every time a human was born… and every time one died as well.

Today, the rain beat down heavily on the heads and shoulders of the villagers as they gathered by the shore of the surrounding lake. The air is solemn; filled with the silence of mourning as bodies drooped with grief. Rain pattered against the small wooden coffin as it was carried into the water by two pairs of trembling hands. A broken sob pierced through the sound of pouring rain as the little coffin was released and began to drift from the shore. The ratty little wooden box -the coffin- was just barely large enough; they could only hope that the child was comfortable enough as they lay down to sleep for one last time.

[Name] sniffles as he leans against the stone wall of his home, hugging his knees to his chest in sorrow. It was a child this time, a six-year-old boy, Tenma was his name. The child was taken the same way that most of them are, lost in the cold unforgiving waters of the lake. A lake that came about because of his own grief. A lake that continues to grow ever larger as each day goes by, consuming the village at a pace unnoticed by those who are in its path of destruction. 

A slender-fingered hand enters the dragon's view, pushing aside his long hair and firmly cupping his cheek. 

“Sesshoumaru…”  

[Name] mumbles through cracked lips as he turns his head to the dog demon, crawling into the man's arms and pressing his face into the luxurious fabric of Sesshoumaru's kimono.

“... you really came back.”  

The man only hums in response, running his fingers through the dragon demon's disheveled hair. Trembling in his arms, the lavender-eyed demon sniffles as thunder roars from outside; the storm becomes ever wilder as his sorrow grows. Tears fall from the sky in sheets, flooding the earth as it rushes down the side of the mountain. 

“Hm. This is why I told you to come with me. You shouldn't worry yourself with the lives of humans.”  

Sesshoumaru's quiet voice breaks through the sound of hissing rain in its naturally sharp tone; his head tilting forward to press a chaste kiss on his grieving lover's forehead.

He slid behind the teary-eyed dragon, having [Name] sitting between his legs as he wrapped his arms around his waist; his chest resting against the man's back and his chin on his shoulder. The dog demon sighed softly, quietly holding onto his lover and simply offering his presence as the man in his arms slowly calmed down and leaned back against him. Outside, the droves of tears slowly began to recede with the dark looming clouds, allowing the warm, orange-hued rays of light from the rising sun to pierce through and illuminate the dreary grey of the morning. 

The sun was warm as it shone down on the people of Ame Village; their sorrowful gazes lifting up to look up at the distant star. It had been too long since the last time they saw the fiery ball of light; so long they couldn't remember exactly when it was. Though the air was still solemn, the ground was still wet, and the ratty little box was still drifting along on the surface of the lake; on this particular morning, something had changed.

Perhaps, things might be different from now on.

Kudzu – Kudzu is a climbing, coiling, and trailing perennial vine native to East Asia and Southeast Asia. It can quickly overtake any type of vegetation and suppress or kill it by heavy shading. Mt. Shizunda – Not in the manga or the anime; I just needed an appropriate place for the setting. Shizunda is sunken in Japanese, according to Google Translate.

Ame Village – Another made-up place for the sake of the setting; Ame is rain in Japanese, according to Google Translate.

I think calling sesshomaru a racist is a bit of a stretch. Yes that applies to koga but I’d say sesshomaru is classist not racist

Calling people of a certain race “vile creatures” is, in fact, racist.

“But he changed! He developed compassion for humans!” he learned that there’s some humans & hanyo that he can tolerate/respect, and he cares for Rin, but he still sees human lives in general as worthless even at the very end of the series.

(Mind you Rin had already spent some time in that village at that point and Kaede took care of her. The thought that she might care about Kaede and the other people in the village doesn’t even cross his mind so even his care for Rin doesn’t extend very far)

But you’re right he’s classist too, and generally completely incompatible with someone like Kagome Higurashi.

Man was scolding her one second for trying to convince him to take his anger out on her instead of blaming Inuyasha, Irene literally holding his claws up to her throat, and the next her concussion got so bad she’s just FALLING. Sess didn’t have time to plan how much strength to use when catching her. His instincts just went GRAB HER, QUICK, SHE GONNA DIE IF SHE GETS ANYMORE HEAD TRAUMA. MUST PROTECC. He was not expecting her to faint at all.

Ngl i misread it as disney fairytale but mulan is chinese fairytale too. In my delulu opinion, i would like to think sesskag would e somewhat like Mulan and Shang.

I would love to learn more about more niche fairytale especially japanes folkore/fairytales and redraw it again but i only know the mainstream ones.

Now with Yashahime behind us, I'm finally starting to separate the real Inuyasha canon from that travesty. I'm watching the episodes again and I'm even able to see Sesshomaru and Rin in a wholesome way again. I can reject the really gross fake Sesshomaru that Sunrise created, and it feels great!

This is all because of the antis, because they kept saying even when things got really bad that it's okay to keep seeing Sesshomaru as Rin's hogosha, and kept providing evidence for why it was obvious that they were never meant to be a couple. Thank you all so much!

And for anyone who is still struggling to look at the original Inuyasha the same way, I want you to know there's hope. I thought it was ruined forever, but I'm recovering my love of the show. It might be possible for you too.

Sorry for the late reply, I've tried to stay away from Yashahime stuff, but I'm glad to know that you've been able to separate OG Inuyasha from the what if doujin with a budget that HnY is.

After all, it's unfair that fans of the original work can't enjoy its content just because a money-hungry company came up with a disgusting retcon of such a beautiful story. It's great that we're bringing our favorite characters back and that we don't forget how they were originally.

That earned an arched brow as identical gold eyes glanced up before moving back to his gloves. Since when did ole fluffy concern himself with what he was doing? Aside from when he thought that his actions might embarrass the family somehow that is. But then, knowing him, any move he made may embarrass the family.

"What's it look like I'm doin'? I'm workin' out," he replied with a sigh as he spotted the holes in the gloves he'd been using. Another set ruined. Looks like he'd have to trim his claws even shorter next time. Really the company who made these should really make them more durable.

I’m very happy you like my Sesshomaru/Harry Potter story!

I will have to admit the sequel to InuYasha (Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon) where they confirmed Sesshomaru/Rin as a canon ship, and the whole downward transphobic spiral of JK Rowling’s legacy on Twitter and of her going bonkers, dampened a lot of my creative enthusiasm for G&G if I’m being honest /j.

Background context: I’d written the majority of G&G back in my junior/senior year of high school up till probably end of uni, and it has 16 chapters thus far, making it the longest multichaptered WIP out of all my multifandom WIPs. But because I started other WIPs in other fandoms and I am only one writer, to make it fair, I made the executive decision to focus on my other projects which’d coincidentally snuck up on me. And because I do genuinely intend to return to it eventually instead of abandoning it (if any work of mine is discontinued, I will mark it as such and change the incomplete status to “complete” to reflect the change like what I did to my Jona/Dio | Jota/Dio fic), I decided to mark G&G as “hiatus.”

We’re not giving up hope! I honestly just need a kick in my engine and likely that’s what’ll take it out of hiatus status, whether it be another work also reaching 10ish-16ish chapters or there being a reboot of HP that revitalizes me, whichever one comes first.
