I had the amazing opportunity to go to Seoul K-medi Center and visit the herbal medicine complex and the cultural experience facility. I went to this relief institution and I was offered a foot bath, and a thermo-massage for my back, hands and feet. At the 2nd floor of the facility I could experience the foot bath with herbs. Located outside it gives you an amazing feeling of relief and relaxation. Then, at the 3rd floor, at the Bojewon I had the privilege to go to the K-medi Experience Room and get a thermo-massage. The first one, was on a traditional bed for my back, the second was for my hands and lastly for my feet. This gave my body the healing it was so long waiting for. The prickly beauty of Poncirus trifoliata (Japanese Bitter Orange). An interesting and underrated shrub, but not one to mess with and today’s #oneadayplant . I have found this plant to be completely hardy in the UK and while it definitely gets taller and fruits better when grown in conservatories, it flowers and fruits well enough outdoors in the South of England anyway. . Foliage is ok. Three leaflets per stalk (trifoliate) as the species name suggests. Autumn colour yellow before falling - ok, but unmiraculous. Flower is an attractive star-shaped white with a decent scent. The Golf Ball-sized (perhaps a bit larger in truth) fruit is pretty, ripening from lime-green (no pun) to orange-yellow (also no pun) and is incredibly bitter to eat. A real face puckerer! Most people trying it will only do it once. I understand that you can make marmalade from them, which is good though and that they are used in traditional medicine in Asia as an anti-inflammatory. . Probably the most defining feature of this plant are the abundant, ‘take no prisoners’ thorns, which are strong, inflexible, sharply-pointed and over an inch (2.5cm) long. They hurt. . There seems to be continual debate as to whether it should be considered a true Citrus or not. You may find it as Citrus or Poncirus for sale. . A bit of exotica. A talking point. In #chinesemedicine, the organs for #spring are the Liver + Gallbladder and the emotion is Anger. The Liver is the General and it’s job is to ensure the smooth flow of #qi throughout the body. The Gallbladder is considered a Curious organ, as it has functions of a yang (hollow) and yin (stores a pure fluid, i.e. bile) organ. The Gallbladder governs our ability to make decisions, judgments and our courage in making decisions. Well, I’ve wrapped up my Dry Needling Certification, and now just have to wait for Indiana Board to implement rules for use, as it’s already in my scope of practice. . In the meantime, I’ve started my journey towards becoming a Licensed Acupuncturist (LAc). Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has some common sense approaches to common conditions and issues seen in the musculoskeletal system, along with other systems. This will give me a more rounded education and allow me to continue in my holistic approach with treatment. On 21st August qe had the great opportunity to visit K-Medi Center in Seoul with the help of Allimi program. Before experiencing the traditional foot bath and massage we could visit the museum.
