•i made this account after realizing I've been into whump for years without knowing it and discovering that I'm not alone in finding comfort in fiction about characters being put through emotional and or physical hell. I've often struggled with intense shame related to my interest in whump, especially as it's tied to my own trauma, so learning about this community has felt like a huge weight off my chest.

I transitioned from group rp to indie a few years ago and--at the time--I was all alone. I had no connections, just a lonely barry blog to my name. I wrote drabbles by myself in the dark for two weeks until aya came across my blog with her hikari, and everything just clicked. aya made me feel included, reached out with ideas, plots and feedback, and showed love to barry and all of my muse(s)--and to this day, I still feel TREMENDOUSLY grateful for the helping hand when I felt so isolated. I definitely would not still be writing here without her.

since then, I've had an amazing time here. writing with so many different people, muses, and groups--it's all so good. my best experiences happen when I'm writing (or even plotting) with someone, and everything just works, flows, and fits together and I can just feel that shared excitement. that feeling that we're building a great story together. that's magical. that's why I'm still around, trying new muses, diving headlong into amazing plots/dynamics, letting my imagination run wild, and--as always--writing a lot. much love to EVERYONE who has helped keep that fire burning over the years, but especially ash and aya for giving that flame a chance in the first place. tysm. ❤️

RP PET PEEVES / DEALBREAKERS : it's been said, but--on a personal level--I wish private communication would happen more, specifically when it comes to interest levels. my time is becoming more and more limited here (sad as that is) and I have always written at a slower, longer pace. so, given how fast this place moves, I would appreciate knowing if a thread has grown stale, or if something's off.

I'm flexible. I'd like to think that I'm pretty laid-back. I want you to have fun, and you need to drop or backburner our thread because life, interest, etc. that's okay. I promise. I also don't mind reminders about cold threads or overdue replies on my end. if that's the case, please let me know right away, and I'll pick it back up or let you know my thoughts. we can try new things, or not. just let me know what you'd like to do, and we can adjust from there. that being said, lack of time or muse =/= lack of interest. blorbo - a term accidentally originated by thelustiestargonianmaid meaning a fictional character you adore, archetypically one you feel cuteness aggression towards, though that’s not mandatory. the original post pre-edit was about how people on Tumblr will tag non-fandom posts with characters and media they like that they feel fits, like seeing a post about being attacked by your new pet and tagging it Ash Ketchum

plinko - a game originating from The Price is Right, but in this context specifically referencing a GIF of a physics simulation, where a horse falls in a humorous way down a Plinko board, that became a meme in 2021 thanks to an edit where the title “horse plinko” was added, and there are flames at the bottom of the image to insinuate the horse is being incinerated

eeby deeby - for a full meme history check out this post, but: the phrase “eeby deeby” was a stand-in for robotic noises, but in this context, it refers to some nebulous hell-like place, originating from an edited image of an elevator listing its destination as “eeby deeby”

glup shitto - coined by gomjabbar in a viral post about how Star Wars fans who are really into the franchise celebrate the return of minor or once-off characters that general audiences do not care about, sometimes used in a more generic way to refer to any obscure nod to a work’s fandom. also sometimes used in conjuction with Grogu, aka Baby Yoda from The Mandalorian

and the entire post is a reference to the Miette tweet, where Patricia Lockwood jokes about the melodramatic nature of cats, in particular her own cat Miette; it’s been noted recently that the original tweet doesn’t actually mention that Miette is a cat; rather, the pop culture perception of cats and the context of the tweet are what clued people in before Lockwood ever released photos of Miette

it’s become a popular snowclone; a phrase that becomes popular or otherwise notable, and then is used in a Mad Libs-esque fashion where only a few words are changed, in such a way that the allusion to the original sentence adds extra context.

Here, with the original Miette text and all the context, we can finally decipher the snowcloned text:

“Blorbo” is the character being melodramatic, the Miette of the scenario.

“Eeby deeby” is the jail in the scenario, being a deeply unpleasant place one would not want to even visit, let alone remain in for a thousand years.

Being “kicked like the plinko” references how roughly the horse in the Horse Plinko meme falls down the pegs, evoking the same feelings as being kicked like a football.

Finally, “glup shitto” isn’t a direct analogue to Miette’s owner (her “mother”); rather, it was added in to make the post even more incomprehensible for people unfamiliar with meme culture in general and Tumblr meme culture in specific.

A few weeks ago I tried explaining to my non tumblr friends what blorbo/eeby deeby/glup shitto/scrunglo/plinko was and it almost gave all of us an aneurysm

i read journalist jane talia's description of the immolation of aaron bushnell. i saw the still image. i watched her censored video, i heard his screams. i watched the uncensored video and i saw him burn, and then i watched it with audio and saw it all. the description is enough. the still image is as thorough and brutal as any average person may need ("need") to see to understand the suffering he endured in service of his protest.

i'm not by any means an expert, or whatever, in viewing gore or dealing with the psychic harm that it brings. watching the uncensored video satisfied my curiosity. i know what a burning human looks like, i know how his clothes fell, ashes, from his blackened body. i saw him tremble and fall. it did not make me a better person. i am not made more able to help the palestinian people, knowing these things. i already knew they were terrible.

there's value in respecting aaron bushnell's decision to publicize his protest as he did, that video should exist per his demand to be seen -- i would never condemn him for it, i would never condemn palestinians for begging the world to witness their suffering, i would never condemn mamie till for demanding the world see what white supremacists did to her son -- the holocaust is well-documented and those photos of nazi evil and jewish suffering were invaluable, tangible proof that something very wrong is happening in the world -- and i'm not a better person for having seen it. i wouldn't be a better person for turning away. maybe i would feel better and breathe easier if i did.

i won't satisfy my curiosity on this by searching for more details but when i was young i saw photographs of american soldiers raping women in the middle east. they haunt me. i think the photos were used in a legal case regarding these soldiers. this is different from aaron bushnell's video, of course, because those victims were recorded against their will -- a violation on top of a violation. i regret seeing them. i dont know those women but i hope they never experienced anything so horrific in their lives again. i can't imagine they want anyone seeing them in those moments.

i remember 2 guys 1 hammer, in middle school. i remember the time my mom opened a chain email of a man in police custody pulling a gun out of his pants and shooting himself in the head, quick. i remember videos of humans torturing animals: squeezing cats, cutting the fins off sharks, grabbing turtles by their necks, shaking them until theyre dead. all -- isnt this terrible? or course it is.

one of the first posts i saw about palestine since october 7, from a palestinian in the diaspora, was a tumblr user relating their conversations with their grandmother in palestine. the user wanted maybe to share photos of the people already killed, to remember them. grandmother says: their deaths arent entertainment. you know how israelis use our photos when we are killed.

once i told some people to stop using a specific photo for their memes about feeling ganged up on, by whatever abstract concepts of adulting or mental illness, because the photo was of a gay man being beaten by homophobes. they were aiming to kill him with kicks and stomps and he was curled up on the ground. they told me off for ruining their fun, or trying to, anyway.

I was just thinking of y'all. Specifically how positive you made my first interactions with the kpop community. Some truly rancid things happened and I dropped off the face of the earth as far as kpop is concerned and this past week I was able to actually listen to full albums again without getting sick or being anxious for the first time in years.

I dunno, I wanted someone to know. I feel silly typing this out now but I was too afraid to go back to my old blog and type up a post. Didn't even wanna look at it. So I thought I'd tell my favorite blog, with the two people who made me so comfortable here, who inspired me to write fanfic and be as much of a fan boy as I wanted, that I'm healing from the things that happened and I appreciate the two of you for the happier memories of my time in the community.

I'm happy to see you still here. I hope that the past few years have treated you kindly, or at least not as harsh as they could have. You two deserve happiness. Thank you so much for what you've done.

3. How many fandoms have you written for and what are they? Literally so many ... although most of them are from ye olden days. Like right now I only have 5 fandoms on AO3 (Untamed, Shadowhunters, Teen Wolf, Avengers, and one fic for The Sleuth of the Ming Dynasty), but on my old fic page I also had Harry Potter, How to Train Your Dragon, A;tLA, and Firefly, as well as a bunch of anime fandoms: Tokyo Babylon/X99, Yami no Matsuei, Weiss Kreuz, Card Captor Sakura, Fruits Basket, Fushigi Yuugi, Gundam Wing, Durarara!!, One Piece, Bleach, D. 5) Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

If someone has asked a specific question, or made a comment I really feel needs to be addressed, then sure. But usually no - I have trouble keeping up, and I can really only type ‘Thanks!’ so many times before I feel like a tool.

6) What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

I wrote some X/99 fics that were pretty depressing. The only one I specifically remember is And From the Ashes, which I got peer pressured into giving an unhappy ending lmao.

7) Do you ever write crossovers?

I’ve written a few back in the day. These days I tend to write fusions. I did write that pretty epic Teen Wolf/Shadowhunters crossover though.

8) Have you ever received hate on a fic?

LOL, of all varieties and varying levels of competence.

9) Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I have written plenty of smut in the past, and some of it I think was pretty good! These days I don’t. I’m really not sure why? I just don’t feel the need to include it any more. Some mild lime (ogodI’msoold) is the most I bother with.

10) Have you ever had a fic stolen? lmao someone once took Divided We Stand and published it on Amazon without even changing the character names or taking out the AO3 header. I think that takes the fucking cake. But it’s happened a few other times, too.

Several times! Back in the day with my besties and my sister, and these days sometimes with my wife. I have co-written with online friends a couple times but I find it difficult.

LEAST FAVOURITE FACE(S)! ♡    Uhmmm, I don’t think I have any? I mean, I usually use the face claim from the shows I take my muses from or the comic/cartoon/whatever they come from. For John specifically, I prefer Matt Ryan over Keanu Reeves for the mere reason that they made him look more like how John is in the comics. Plus, he has a more engaging personality, which fits the whole conman act.

MULTI OR SINGLE! ♡    This is a single muse blog and a sideblog to a multi-muse. I don’t have a preference, I use both formats depending on the characters I’m writing. If there’s one I’m REALLY inspired for (like John), I prefer them having their own blog, so I can expand them and personalise things for them. For muses I have less inspiration for but still want to write, a multi is more appropriate, also because it allows me to prioritize this muse over the others depending on the mood.

FLUFF / ANGST / SMUT! ♡    

FLUFF:   I’m not a fluffy stuff hoarder, but I will admit that it’s good for the soul from time to time. It gives me a chance to have something lighter, less complex to deal with. And having your character or your ships (platonic and romantic) being all cute can be a mood booster, especially in bad times. It can make you smile and that alone makes it worth it. Kudos if it’s funny fluff. That said...I always end up adding at least a tiny bit of angst in my fluffy threads. I just can’t help it.

ANGST:  If you have written with me, or even just talked to me, you know that Scotty FUCKING. LOVES. ANGST. First of all, because I’m a bit of a sadist and I just enjoy torturing my characters. Secondly, I find that it’s a great tool to explore a character’s personality, to push them to their limits and past them, to see how it causes them to evolve and how it affects their relationships with others. After all, it’s a well known fact that nothing affects a person’s life and perception of the world and of themselves more than trauma does.

SMUT:  I’m not too big on smut, I’ll be honest. I’m selective with whom I write it with, because I need to see chemistry between the muses and to have it with the mun. There are a few selected people I have no trouble writing it with, but for the rest, I’d rather discuss it, especially if it’s M/F smut (I’m more open to write M/M and F/F, even if still selective). Also, I need to be in the right mood for it, so it often happens that I either drop smut threads or leave them stewing in my drafts for some time till the will to write them strikes again.

PLOT / MEMES! ♡  For how I see it, memes are good for short-term, casual threads. It’s a bit hard to build up a longer story starting off from one sentence or one action (at least for me). I always need to discuss a bit with my partner and establish at least the general setting of the interaction. That’s the reason why I prefer plotting over just using memes. Of course, I never plot a whole thread, because I like to see where it leads me on its own, but, as I said, I prefer knowing where I’m starting from and what the general idea behind it is. Moreover, brainstorming with my partners tends to get me more involved in what we’re writing and to make writing replies and coming up with new ideas and twists much more easily.

Author’s Notes: I was driving in K-Town, about 10 minutes west of Downtown LA, and the street I was going to take was blocked. When I turned onto Wilshire, I saw a crowd on the corner because a minivan had just struck a motorcycle. I don’t know what happened to the motorcyclist, but I hope that the paramedics were able to get to him in time. 

The title comes from the song “Sukiyaki,” specifically the 4PM cover version. I heard it the night before and I think the lyrics really encapsulate a lot of what’s going on in this fic. Colt doesn’t belong to me, but the story does. No Beta used.

"Ha! Take that, Poli Sci!"

Pressing 'save' on her 25-page term paper with a triumphant smile, Renza straightened up in her chair, stretching her arms above her head. The paper marked the last final of her first semester at Langston University and pressing that save button was one of her sweetest victories of the last six months. She looked at the time, not realizing it was already five in the afternoon. Taking out her planner, she crossed out another day until her flight back to LA for the winter break.

Two more days until she went back home.

Two more days until she saw Colt.

Taking her burner phone out, she looked at the latest text exchange with Colt. He had replied to her yesterday morning in response to some stupid meme she had sent him.

"You're a dork lol"

"I know, but you love me for it 😝"

"Lol I do love you for it."

"Love you too 😘"

They normally FaceTimed in the evening, except for the random times Colt had business to attend to. He made the decision early on in their relationship to stop telling her about anything he was involved with, citing the fact that she had become mixed up in so much shit already because of him and his family. It wasn't like him to not respond for more than a day and so she shot off a quick text.

"Finished my last paper! Woohoo! Can't wait to see you when I get back home!"

Putting the extra phone away, she picked up her regular, pink cased iPhone, looking through her Pictagram account. Mindlessly, she scrolled through her feed, breaking out of her reverie once she saw her father calling.

"Hey Dad! What's up?!" She chirped happily, ready to tell him about her being done with her semester.

"Hi, Renza," her father cleared his throat, taking a deep breath before continuing on. "I have something to tell you.”

"What is it? Is everything okay?”

“Are you sitting down?"

“Okay, you’re starting to freak me out here,” she frowned. “What's wrong?"

"I... I just found out about an hour ago. I was debating whether to even tell you this, but Kaneko's son, he was involved in a crash last night on Wilshire. A minivan didn't see him on his motorcycle and ... he died on impact. I know you were friends with him and I thought you'd want to know."

Renza dropped the phone, her grip going slack. Her body went completely numb, the words her father said to her barely registering.

"Renza? Renza, honey? Are you okay?"

After a few seconds, she bent over, picking the phone up, looking at the device as if it had deceived her somehow. "I've gotta go, Dad."

"Renza, I'm so-"

With a click, she hung up the phone, frozen in shock. Everything over the last few minutes felt like an out of body experience. Her heart lurched, threatening to swallow itself in her chest as she collapsed into a fetal position on the floor of her room. Never did she realize the pain of her heart shattering would be a thousand times worse than what she could ever imagine.

Hours slipped by before she was knocked out of her trance by obnoxious, drunk laughter outside her dorm room door. Her eyes were red and her cheeks wet with silent tears, her brain still unable to process the news. Unlocking her phone, she looked at the picture in the background. It was a snap of the two of them from prom, right before everything went to hell. They never managed to take another photo together after that moment.

Wiping her face, she cast a glance at her already packed suitcase, taking a series of calming, deep breaths before she could feel herself start to hyperventilate. She counted to ten, her mind clearing with what she needed to do.

The first step? Changing her flight to get back to LA as soon as she could.

Christmas Eve.

This was not the way she had envisioned spending what used to be one of her favorite holidays.

Renza should have been cuddling with Colt by a fire, sipping on hot chocolate and roasting marshmallows … or on the back of his bike, coasting down PCH, the roads devoid of people.

Instead, here she sat, in a pew of the Forest Lawn mortuary located on the other side of the Hollywood Hills. She looked around the room and saw a beautiful Japanese woman in the front, the only one who had eyes redder than hers. The rest of the mourners were a mixture of his family and friends, all from the side of his life she knew nothing about. There were a few girls in attendance who barely hid their sneer at her, not bothering to hide their disdain at the girl who was so out of place. No doubt she stood out like a sore thumb; her simple, black pencil skirt and blazer combo plain compared to the Robertson Boulevard LBDs these USC sorority type girls were wearing.

Never in her life had she felt so alone.

Not when her mother died.

Not when she left her father.

In that moment, the stark realization that Colt was no longer alive hit her head on. No one in the room paid any attention to the girl in the back as her world crumbled all around her. No one except the beautiful, Japanese woman who sat in the front, all by herself.

Three hours had passed, the crowd thinning out as it neared closing time. Renza had nothing left to give, her insides raw with the overpowering emotion that had taken over. She couldn’t trust her body to walk the thirty feet to his coffin during the entire time she had been there with other people around, but now that it was empty, she willed herself to take those steps, to pay her last respects to the love of her life.

Taking a shaky breath, she stepped up to the open casket, looking in at his face. His handsome face. The closed lids hiding the eyes she would never be able to get lost in. The mouth that would never again give her a crooked smile. The lips she would never get to feel against hers.

Everything crashed over her once more, her tears streaming down her face as she broke down in solitude. She cried for all his pain, all his hopes and dreams, their future, and quite simply, him. Their relationship in an instance had been reduced to nothing more than untouchable memories that would stay with her the rest of her life.

“Excuse me, miss, I’m sorry, but we have to close.” A worker approached her gently, handing her tissues with his message, before leaving her with a final moment.

“Of course, sorry,” Renza mumbled. She looked down once more, steeling herself for the last time. “I’ll never forget what we had. Like you said, you’re a part of me forever.” Her lip trembled as she fought a fresh onslaught of tears. “I’m always going to love you. Goodbye, Colt.”

As she neared the building’s entrance, the beautiful woman from earlier approached her, the epitome of grace in such a trying time.

“You must be Renza,” she said quietly, her voice hoarse, not unlike her own.

Unable to find her voice, Renza nodded, biting the inside of her lip.

Sighing heavily, she pulled her phone out to order a Dryve, her gaze settling back to earth. She blinked repeatedly at the sight that greeted her, not sure if her eyes were playing tricks. In the parking lot, there stood Mona, Ximena, Toby, and even Logan; the remaining members of the Mercy Park Crew.

Oh boy, if I could type the most deflated, defeated sigh, it would go here. Spoiler warning here. Hey losers! It’s GRRM Boot-licking Book Purist here. My local friends have heard me bitch and moan about Game of Thrones since Season 5, and they are S I C K   O F   I T  so now you, my brilliant Tumblr friends, get to hear me scream about incompetent show-writers taking a Vietnam opposing hippie’s anti-war story which basically screams the message “Hey being ruled by sexism and tradition and racism  makes the world shittier for everyone aside from the dude sitting at the top and he’s made it  impossible for even the powerful players in his system to peacefully change anything,” amping up the American fetishisation of eugenics, male primogeniture and the idea of a Righteous War Against The Others and making quintillions of dollars off of the brainlet audience who just overlook how gross it all is! (Before I begin with the two or twenty issues I have with this episode I will say that if ASOIAF interests you at all, seriously do yourself a favour, read the books with an understanding of who GRRM is, and exclusively watch Preston Jacobs’ analysis.) One: Why the fuck is Euron just a disgusting sex fiend in the show? Do the show-writers know how to write a compelling villain or will they just defend this as if it’s a ‘creative decision’ to make one of, possibly the most compelling, “bad guy” completely one-note and gross? Okay, bare with me, because the last re-read I did of ASOIAF was like, end of 2016, so I may not be able to describe this all too well, but book Euron is like, part mad Blackbeard, part world-weary mystic, and part eerily compelling politician. Half of the reason he’s so fucking creepy in the book is that when he attends the Kingsmoot, not only is he just kind of a weird bloke, but he uses what seems to be magic (with the horn that has ash idk I can’t remember everything rn I’m kind of drunkenly rambling) in a very low magic setting, and speaks directly to what the traditionalist Ironborn want, which is blood and plunder, and it completely de-rails their growing acceptance of a less toxic lifestyle. The show just decided to make him some gross Jack Sparrow impersonator whose only characteristics include being a completely stereotypical pirate, and wanting to have sex with Cercei, pestering her and pushing the subject even after a firm “No.”  A common thread with everything in the show is that the show-writers take the “Kick the dog” route basically every time even a modicum of understanding would be necessary to see why you feel like some character might be bad. Anyone with a brain could read the Victarion and Asha chapters and just feel that Euron was bad. The characters have their own reasons to dislike him, and they’re good enough, but when you as the reader simply look at what he does, and think for a moment, you KNOW why you think he’s bad, and honestly that kind of shit makes you feel good, it makes you feel like you get what is being told to you. The show-writers just believe that about 80% of their audience is comprised of troglodytic idiots who wouldn’t understand any subtlety at all, so everyone you’re “supposed to dislike” is now a creepy psychotic abusive rapist. Who knows? Maybe they’re on to something. Maybe the main audience is as stupid as they think. Two: This is something I don’t even try to discuss with people any more, because the camps are apparently “People who disagree with this,” and “People who do not care,” but what the fuck is up with American media and eugenics and male primogeniture, specifically how often they are intertwined? I could go on about the show’s interpretation of what Jon Snow “means,” forever, and I will someday, but I will stick to what this specific episode did that fucked me off. META INTERJECTION HERE: I cannot even phrase the question. What kind of back-flipping through loopholes, logical gymnastics type shit does one have to pull to create the drama that Jon Snow is somehow a more legitimate heir? No, this isn’t me refuting R+L=J, because not only is it canon, but it’s something I’ve been screaming as truth for longer than Game of Thrones has been a relevant cultural topic. WHAT I MEAN, is, how, in the fuck, can you try and pass your real-life bias against woman off as in-universe, canon logic, when it is fundamentally against every rule and precedent you’ve set? So the show seems to think that because Jon is Rhaegar’s son, he’s immediately the true king and the rightful heir and the most purebred child and he’s the genetically superior race and all that American bullshit. Only, first off, that implies Targs still have a rightful claim (which they do but that’s personal preference,) but MORE DAMNING is that characters imply, in canon, that he somehow passes his aunt’s PERFECTLY LEGITIMATE claim,  simply because he’s a man. Now this is wrong on about 50 levels but I’ll skip that and tackle the issue two ways. I) This drama is the kind of forced, fumbled shit that has plagued the show since season 5. No one is acting logically and it leads to stupid shit like this. Only this time, the drama is not even caused by characters acting illogically in their own world, the show-runners are writing their own real-world bias in to these characters in spite of everything, because... II) Even in canon, (though I don’t know if the show has acknowledged it because who gives a fuck about what the show thinks) Targaryen queens have a precedent in Rhaenyra. If any dumbass is still reading this and argues with me on that by saying there was a war and she lost, sure, but like, look to the show’s OWN CURRENT STATE OF AFFAIRS, where 4 kingdoms are lead by women who have male relatives. The only reason this drama exists is because the show-writers are fucking idiots and they just decided the easiest thing for them to write was dudes being sexist and jerking off to how pure-blooded their candidate is. Oh boy, I just wrote for like 40 minutes. Sorry folks, but the whole “show v book” thing is not even a meme for me in regards to ASOIAF. I saw a video a few days ago where some guy was talking about he won’t make videos on his favourite anime because he doesn’t want to undersell how much they mean to him; he doesn’t want to make a video trying to summarise his experience with a show, because if someone says “Oh, I get what he thinks now,” they still won’t understand how much it means to him. Though it’s pretentious, I feel that way about a few things, and ASOIAF is one of them. I won’t go on about it, but those books mean so much to me, and the way the show not only butchered them as an adaptation, but also in their cultural understanding among the people I associate with, genuinely makes me sad. It kind of breaks my heart that ASOIAF will go down in cultural history as “The books for Game of Thrones,” and not as what they are; some old hippie’s anti-war, anti-tradition, pro-feminist fantasy epic with so many moving parts that something may never be attempted on such a scale again. It ruins my day when I see what Benioff and Weiss have done to the series, and how they managed to turn a writer’s heartfelt letter to fantasy, his magnum opus, in to generic, edgy-for-the-sake-of-shock, often disgusting, popcorn shlock for a mass audience. It fucking kills me to be a fan of ASOIAF. It kills me to have something so dear to me associated with this filth.

5 years of the PokémonJesus

Before the night comes to a close, I would like to personally reflect on today’s importance (thus the reason for the Takeover queue). It’s been 5 years since I officially became engaged with this fandom that has really became a weekly routine of mine when new episodes come out. This is really just to put my thoughts out there in the blog archive, so I would prefer if no one reblogs this. P J’s beginnings started all the way back with Serebii Forums...

2013-2014 (The Pokémon forums Era)

I have been lurking in the fandom as early as the Best Wishes days, and often visit sites like Serebii Forums or tumblr’s Pokémon anime tags around 2011. I usually talk Pokémon online when it comes to the games when battling or trading in certain chat rooms (was really active during the Gen. IV era of games), but never really talked about the anime with. I have been a spectator to the discussion while the BW saga was rolling a long, then I decided on September 26th 2013 (which was the airdate for the final BW! episode in Japan) to create a serebiiforums account under the username PokemonJesus123, just in time for the start of the XY series which I was mad hyped about! I WAS A FAN SINCE DAY 1...some y’all just tagged along in XY&Z NO LOYALTY xD . My serebii profile is still there actually, so you can try to find my old inactive page if you want lol (my avatar was me holding up my 3DS in a cringey way...looking back why tf did I take that photo lol delete later). Coming into 2014, I joined tumblr as well under the url name you see right before you. Never changed it, and probably never will. The origin of this name you ask? You’ll just have to ask me personally for that story 😉 I absolutely joined tumblr out of pure boredom to view and follow blogs I was a fan of. I had no intention of posting whatsoever. Oh, and I made a Twitter account under the P J name too! Follow ME :^)

2014-2015 (Thursday LIVE! tumblr era)

After a couple months of finally creating a tumblr account and actively posting on serebiiforums and bulbagarden, XY episode 50 (the episode where big lips Nini/Nene debuted) was the first EVER Pokémon anime episode I ever posted about in my blog. I was still new the #pokeani tag (funny story, I didn’t really knew what it meant back then besides to tag it lol), but I got as much as around 30-100 notes. Seeing those notes already got excited that it pushed me from making it a weekly thing since I had a livestream to watch it every Thursday night and screen-cap it. My goal from the very beginning was to try to be the first one to post about here, like what the Japanese fans do on Twitter under the #Anipoke tag. Of course, most of my notes came from either an AmourShipping post or a Serena post. I’m not going to lie, I was really a huge Serena fan when the series first started. I rambled a lot too getting hyped for Citron/Clemont episodes because he was probably my favorite character at the time xD

2015-2016 (A growing blog)

This was the era I started to do special long posts in celebration with Pokémon’s 20th anniversary. Around this period is where my blog was in a developing state getting like 2 or 3 followers every week. And trust me, there were A LOT of posts that I regret posting, but I learned to watch my words every week and say the right things (I really try not to trigger anyone here). I took a couple of weeks off when new episodes aired since I was really busy with college, or I wasn’t into XY filler episodes that much. Would usually tune in live when Team Flare was involved or anything with Squishy/Puni-chan (I absolutely ADORED Bonnie/Eureka in this arc), but I didn’t post that much on tumblr...unless if there was like an AmourShipping moment that happened xD. The hype for Gen. VII was already looming, and I kinda got bored from the anime A BIT. When Ash-Greninja came into the picture however, I got excited again! Then the Kalos League happened, and the anticipation of Ash’s journey hit a climax! We all know what happened, and the rest was history...

2016-2017 (GIFmaking era)

So the Sun & Moon anime happened late 2016, and the hype for a new series was within me again! This is when my blog REALLY started to boom, as well as the birth of my Pokémon Discord server PokéTōku. My notes were higher than over compared to what I posted from XY. One possible reason is that a lot of pokeani bloggers from back then weren’t really interested in Sun & Moon (probably because of the animation change), so I was one of few who still stayed for the ride and that really benefited my blog’s exposure. I absolutely loved Lillie’s character development, and I also did not expect myself to enjoy Lana/Suiren’s character so much! Brock & Misty’s was a huge highlight for me as well seeing my childhood come to a modern-day Pokémon series. I was surprised to have popular people reblog my stuff that destroys my notifications per second. I was even flattered when popular pokéblogs such as shelgon, corsolanite, chasekip, and a few others followed me. Back then I really wanted to get a lot of notes, but at this point I just wanted to be myself and post screen-caps that I feel like talking about. The series also motivated me to start making GIFs since I finally had access to Adobe Photoshop through my university’s application benefits. Later in 2017, I graduated from college and it gave me more time to improving my blog. Also, can you believe it took me 3 years to get 1,000 followers? If you asked me from day 1, I would have never expected to get that much since I had no idea about tumblr’s audience.

Everyone here knows that my blog doesn’t really follow “traditional” tumblr methods such as tags or making specific posts and what not (since I’m not really that into the tumblr culture lol...I’m just here for fun doing my own thing), but I hope I’ve brought something different to your dash experience 🙃

2017-2018 (Making friends)

From 1,000 to 2,500+ followers the next year. You’d be surprise how small that still is compared to the other popular Pokéblogs that joined tumblr later than me, but I’m still grateful for that number. My hype for movie 20 was crazy! I’d always make a post about it when a new trailer was out. But just like Sun & Moon, not everyone was looking forward to the AU it produced. The Let’s Go games shared the same fate as well since everyone didn’t want another Kanto, but I always defend the things that deserve a chance! I fairly enjoyed movie 20 though, and was the first movie that I posted screen-caps and GIFs for in this blog, even made an experience post about it watching it in the theaters! What’s MOST important to me during this time was actually interacting with some of my followers...or should I say friends now :) Out of the 5 years I’ve been here (not counting serebiiforum peeps I’ve known since 2013), I only recently talked to some of you around 2017. My interactions with people here have been awesome (for the most part at least lol) from sharing interests, geeking out over the anime, sending memes xD and concerns when P J isn’t feeling P J. You know who you are, and THANK YOU for cheering your boy up in times when I needed it despite not telling you about it <3 Going back to PokéAni hype, my next excitement attack was when they announced the Aether Foundation and Ultra Beasts were getting involved in the main story. It really makes up for no Alola movie...but hey we still got 1 year left, so maybe there’s hope?

Despite the brief breaks I took, P J’s activeness in the fandom has reached its highest when I managed the time to do scheduled posts and even started a few mini-blog series this year. Even during stressful times, I always make it an effort to find time and contribute to the fandom. I honestly don’t care if I get any asks because I know who the real homies are ◉‿◉つ A special shoutout as well to all the people that joined my Discord server through this website. I couldn’t have reached 100+ members without some of your blogs ^_^ And to the lurkers out there (I know some of y’all are creepin’ in the shadows of my blog without liking anything), you may not know it but I love you people too ლ(́◉◞౪◟◉‵ლ)

Anyway this is just a summary of my journey here so far, and if you’d to hear a more in-depth story on some toxic things I’ve experienced in this fandom just message me. I personally don’t like venting out stuff in public because it just promotes more negativity, and I’m not about that. I will make a separate post on my feelings toward the schedule change maybe next week, and an appreciation post (5th tumblr blogaversary) for my specific followers January 2019. I am still preparing for that because there are so many people (even ones I don’t even talk to) I want to thank ❤ Moving forward into my 6th year, I probably won’t make another post like this anytime soon...but I am very hopeful for the future of the SM series and possible Gen. 8 anime late 2019. Plots or memes: Both. I often like to use memes to get the ball rolling, so to speak, then just see what happens, but plotting does give a good roadmap for how muses can interact.

Fluff/angst/smut: I do plenty of the first and third (with proper precautions in place, of course), but for some reason, despite giving my muse a sad backstory, I’m often hesitant to do angst. A friend of mine once illuminated what they thought the reason was: because I wanted to play Ash as someone who, for all the bad things he’s gone through, still cares about people, about doing the right thing. But yeah, I tend to do fluff and smut more than angst.

Long or short replies: A bit of both.

Best time to write: No specific time; just whenever I feel like writing.

Are you like your muse(s)?: The canon ones mentioned above? No. Ash, though? I admit, I did “inject” some of my own personal beliefs, issues, and so forth into his story and personality. VOY: “Workforce”, the transest Star Trek episode ever

So. There’s a two-part episode of Star Trek: Voyager (“Workforce”) in which the crew all find themselves living out new lives as vaguely Fordist industrial workers on a planet called Quarra, all memory of their real lives having been artificially suppressed.

Imagine my surprise when, rewatching it years later, the bogus diagnosis they’re given as their memories start to resurface is...

...which also happens to be exactly what my partners have been reminding me for the last two months (bless them). I giggled.

Lo and behold, it happens to Tuvok as well:

Now, I get that it was the turn of the millennium and this hadn’t really entered the lexicon yet, but... this is just the tip of the iceberg. Watch along with me and see how it all plays out:

Of course, the ‘treatment’ for Dysphoria Syndrome involves suppressing the offending memory engrams, so the patient can peacefully return to being a cog in the cisheteronormative machine Quarran power distribution facility (read what you will into that). Anyway, Seven realizes that Tuvok might be on to something, and heads to the mental health clinic to get a gender assessment investigate:

Stepping into the realm of the purely serious for a moment, I *have* sort of read Seven’s character arc as a plausible trans allegory, and it’s pretty compelling: having her true identity suppressed at an early age, and finally being forced to confront it in adulthood; processing layers upon layers of trauma just to function as an individual; being rehabilitated by a circle of strong, compassionate women, each with their own identity issues (plus the medical wizardry, overeager cisheteronormative life coaching, and starry-eyed / vaguely inappropriate crushing of The Doctor, I guess, so yeah); struggling to reclaim her human (/feminine) sense of self even while the effects of her Borg (/patriarchal) upbringing have thoroughly warped her thoughts (even as they continue to give her superhuman resilience and insight). I’m sure there’s even a comparison to be drawn to transfeminine desirability politics — Seven is continually presented both as an extremely conventionally attractive human *and* as a mysterious cyborg whose embodiment and manner communicates an often-threatening sense of Otherness — but I’ll leave that for a future discourse. I’m honestly spitballing a bit with all of this, but to see it so explicitly referenced, intentionally or not, is quite something.

So, Seven asks the obvious question, and it turns out that, while being trans is undoubtedly a Real Thing, the specifics are... inconclusive:

Anyway, the compassionate gender doctor goes to the conversion therapy doctor to see what’s up, because clearly something over at the power plant is turning people trans:

The compassionate gender doctor soon notices a pattern:

Though this is set up as the punchline of a “your father” joke, Jaffen isn’t just fucking around here. Tuvok knows what’s up, and proceeds to Vulcan-splain the joke right back to him:

Which begs the question, how do Norvalians procreate, anyway? Are they clones, like the Vorta? Do they deposit their genetic material into pods, like the J’naii? Do they pick up ready-made offspring, like the Kobali? Whatever the intent is, it has serious implications for whatever kind of relationship he and Janeway would have (like, it’s not on the cisheteronormative trajectory of sex and babies, at the very least). So, bear with me for a moment, because this is my honest-to-goodness fan theory:

What if Norvalians reproduce parthenogenetically, leaving the entire need for a biological “father” out of the equation?

This could mean one of two things: as with terrestrial Komodo dragons (I think), parthenogenesis happens but binary sexual reproduction is still an option (which honestly doesn’t seem like the most likely explanation, given the way Jaffen and Tuvok both frame it), *or*, as with terrestrial whiptail lizards, parthenogenesis is the default, and male (i.e., sperm-producing) offspring are extremely rare and/or usually infertile.

So yeah, okay, they reproduce parthenogenetically, Jaffen is a rare male and is probably infertile, and therefore the Jaffen/Janeway relationship is more about companionship and cooperation than sex and babies. I’m fine with that, and I actually find it quite heartwarming.

But, with that in mind, do we need to assume that Jaffen is male, whatever that means for his species? After all, whiptail lizards engage in female/female courtship behaviour, which somehow makes them more fecund — and remember, it’s the Delta Quadrant; we’ve seen enough weird sex shit by Season 7 (cf. “Elogium”, “Favorite Son”, “The Disease”, “Ashes to Ashes”, off the top of my head) that we can reasonably conclude that all bets are off. 

My interpretation? Jaffen is an honest, gallant, leather-waistcoat-rocking, he/him pronoun-using, parthenogenetic Space Butch. Maybe I’ve spent too much time on Sapphic Star Trek Tumblr, or have finally disappeared up my own genderqueer ass, but I’m convinced it’s the simplest explanation that’s congruent with the facts.

[I just spent a bunch of time trying to find the “Captain Janeway is a closet lesbian, change my mind” meme, but no dice.]
