More Heavenly Crowyuan thoughts for both you and @someonewhoreadswaaytoomuchfanfic.

As I was thinking up Heavenly Crow Demon ideas, it occurred to me that regeneration and fire are both things associated with Greek phoenixes. Considering PIDW's insane length, surely at least some of the adventures must have monsters cribbed from other mythologies, right?

With this is mind, there is a good chance Shen Yuan looks at his abilities and thinks something like, "Oh, I must have a grandparent who is a many-lived-regenerating-firebird. There sure were a lot of them in that volcanic demon realm mountain range where Binghe met wife 67." and just never question things further. Since Airplane opted not to include heavenly demon crows in his story, Shen Yuan has no idea they're even a possibility!

As sillygoofyqueer noted before, only heavenly demons naturally have Zuiyin marks, but it's really popular for artists to draw such markings on other sorts of demons too. Because of this, I'm fond of the headcanon that all sorts of demons mark their own foreheads either to denote their status or just for the sake of fashion.

I'm sure crow demons, with their love of shiny things, are happy to paint glittery markings on their foreheads, so they might not find Shen Yuan's natural mark all that odd (beyond perhaps the fact he never changes it). For Shen Yuan himself, since he transmigrated in with clothes and stuff, he probably figures the demon he transmigrated into painted it there before Shen Yuan replaced him.

Supposing the other crows do realize Shen Yuan's heritage, one of my many inspirations for crowyuan are the crows in Tamora Pierce's trickster series. Let me tell you, those crows were not impressed by either royalty or gods. If you want their help with something, you need to bribe them with something shiny!

As such, when they look at heavenly demon crows they probably just think things like, "Man, I wish my feathers came with natural gold tips!" and "That guy sure is helpful when driving off invaders!" but otherwise do not care in the slightest... Unless the heavenly demon crow in question uses their abilities to bully and steal from other crows of course. Then they might agree to offer tribute and some token amount of reverence, but they'll mostly just think that crow is an asshole.

I think this is such a silly funny idea as well, and I love the thought of, instead of worshipping the ground that heavenly demons walk on like most other demons, the extent of crow demons' appreciation ends at "...I want those shiny feathers :(" (imagine a whiney sibling's voice as you read that) and other than that, they really do not care about anything like that.

Also, on the topic of Shen Yuan just brushing off everything weird that hints towards his heritage, I can't stop thinking about the idea of him trying to get used to his own body and figure out what perks it has. Every time he comes across something that isn't mentioned in PIDW, he brushes it off with an "it must have been a fluke" or "well, never doing THAT ever again". For instance, when his arm sets alight and it's healed from a fall or something, he kind of pauses before deciding "well, now I'm hallucinating from the hitting my head" and just goes about his day as if nothing happened. One time he accidentally sets something on fire when he's healing (still believing that he is just regularly hallucinating now) and he stares at the ashes of whatever he burned before just gaslighting himself into believing he had a source of fire that caused the flames rather than him doing it.

at first, it was small things. shadows that didn’t belong. birds that watched too long. dreams of golden fields that turned to ash, and a voice that murmured, “mine.”

then you saw him — standing at the edge of your farm under the moonlight, a crow perched on his shoulder. he said nothing. just watched you. and vanished.

you thought it was your imagination. until the storm came. your crops should’ve died. everyone else's did.

you tried to thank him. left more offerings. wrote prayers. he answered them — in the form of footprints by your bed, feathers in your food, and whispers in your ear while you slept.

that night, he carried you into the woods, to a shrine built of bone and black feathers. “you’re part of the harvest now,” he whispered, brushing your throat with a thumb. “a blessing. a promise.”

and when you tried to leave in the morning, the crows followed.

If Akira was anyone else he would have yelled and scolded Akechi for his self pity. This fictional person would use the suffering that both Futaba and Haru had gone through because of Goro as a weapon to verbally bludgeon him with. As far as Akechi was concerned they would be fully in their right to do so.

And while he felt guilt over it deep in his heart. He wouldn't grovel and beg for forgiveness. He didn't deserve it and they were more then justified to hold it over his head till his dying breath.

It was just how things were.

Yet here was Akira trying his best to help Akechi along through his journey of penance. He didn't deserve kindness like this even from the man who loved him. Though if that was Akira's wish to do so...

"I can agree to those terms. I forced you to accept a deal before. So now it's your turn." Goro spoke softly. Moving to grip Akira's hand tightly. As if scared that he'd lose him somehow right there. "Just... Thank you Akira."

"Mm..." While it's true that his crimes were unforgivable, Akira still found it in himself to partner up with Akechi when it was needed. That was all his heart ever reminded him of. Akechi was trying to change for him and it showed in many ways. He set his coffee down to gently place his hand on top of the brunet's.

"It's okay to wallow in self pity. I do that myself sometimes. The point is, as long as you're trying to be a better version of yourself, then... you can always rely on me to pull you out." His expression softened as a smile tugged on his features. "I'll always be there for you, even at your worst, and we can figure out some healthy ways to cope with everything together." He squeezed his hand lightly.

WHO IS HE?

Loki is the Norse god of mischief and trickery. • Fire: Wagner combined Loki with Logi, the fire god, in his Ring Cycle. And ever since, Loki has been associated with fire and magic  in pop culture. There are some very iffy pieces of evidence that Loki might have had some historical connection with fire (e.g., the Snaptun stone and medieval folklore about the Ash Lad) but the scholarly consensus is “Nope, blame Wagner.” That said, fire, with its dual roles of creation and destruction, enlightenment and passion, is a pretty potent symbol for Loki even if it doesn’t have a historical basis.

• Red hair: Loki’s hair colour is never mentioned in the lore, and there are some illuminated Icelandic manuscripts in which he is shown as a blond or brunette. The fire god mistake mentioned above probably popularized the redhead image. (Interestingly, Thor is canonically a redhead.)

• Fishing nets: in Gylfaginning, Loki weaves a fishing net while on the lam and hiding from the Aesir. (The story kind of implies it’s the first fishing net, although Ran is also credited with inventing them elsewhere.) Loki turns into a salmon to escape but ends up being caught with his own creation,

• Earthquakes: the prose epilogue to Lokasenna claims that earthquakes are caused by Loki writhing in pain when Sigyn leaves to empty her venom-catching bowl.

• Masks: while Odin, not Loki, takes the name of Grímnir (the masked one) in the lore, masks are a fairly logical thing to associate with a shapeshifter.

• In Norse mythology, Loki is known as a chaotic and mischievous figure who frequently causes problems for the god’s.

• He is a Jötunn or giant who is the son of the Jötunn Fárbauti, which means "dangerous strike."

• He went as Thor’s bridesmaid (when he dressed up as Freyja) to go with Thor to get Mjölnir back from Thrym.

HOW TO INVOKE LOKI:

The best way to work with Loki is to respectfully is to approach him with sincere devotion and reverence. He is a God of mischief and chaos, so a certain level of humor is appropriate when working with him, but that doesn't mean you should take him lightly or treat his power with disrespect. To worship him respectfully, make an offering, either something tangible or a gesture like writing a poem or performing an act of mischief and chaos in his name. Be genuine and open in your intention, and don't be afraid to get a little mischievous yourself.

Some ways to works with Loki include:

• Doing things that embody his energy and traits, such as pranks or mischief

• Making offerings to him, whether physical or spiritual

• Creating a dedicated altar space

Coyote ends up empty-handed and of course his magic cow is dead and there’s nothing he can do about it. The plot is typical: the trickster is given something valuable with a condition set on its use, time passes, and before too long trickster’s hunger leads him to violate the condition. As a consequence, the plenitude of things is inexorably diminished. Hunger devours the ideal, and trickster suffers. There seem to be only two options: limited food or limited appetite. Coyote, unable to choose the latter, has the former forced upon him. Such is one common plot in the mythology of tricksters."

Overwatch and Dead by Daylight could definitely have crossover content with each other as a sort of Halloween-themed event and also because they're the main two games I play nowadays, so they have that in common with each other. Here's my little dreamlist of content I'd want to see + a copy of that list in case you throw the first one in the trash.

In Overwatch:

Huntress Junker Queen. This would probably be the feature skin, since Huntress is so iconic, and I think this is the best match between characters. JQ's knife is turned into a hatchet for sure, and her ultimate would include some of the entity's crows flying around and squawking; maybe her ult voice line would be changed to "Time to be sacrificed!"/"Take 'em to the entity's realm!" Absolutely would come with a voice line of humming the Huntress's lullaby.

Trapper Junkrat. He's the only hero with a bear trap, after all, and Trapper's mask would look pretty fitting on Junkrat. Yeah the personality doesn't match lol but I think that's part of the charm. Would pair well with an emote where Junkrat sets a trap ala Trapper style, but then steps into it by accident and kicks it off. This would probably be the "free" skin they let you earn.

Clown Roadhog. Yeah pretty much all the junkers get in on this event. Both have the big boy body type of course. Hog's breather-bottle would be turned into a glass bottle like the Clown's, and his hook would resemble a hook from the entity's realm, which he'd definitely have an extra amount of hook-based voice lines to play with.

Skull Merchant Symmetra. This is maybe the most wild one lol but I think it's a good combo, with Skull Merchant representing the more-modern angle of DBD content. Sym probably has the best matching body type, and her turrets can definitely take the appearance close to that of Skull Merchant's drones. Her gun would also skin very well into the Skull Merchant's claw, I think. I could also see Widowmaker fitting here instead.

Spirit Moira. The Banshee skin is already pretty close to what to picture here. I'm not sure if Overwatch could get away with having the mangled/floating body parts, but it'd look damn cool if they could. Moira works well with her vanishing, and she could be given a cooler melee animation by drawing the Spirit's sword to attack, perhaps. Plus an emote that replicates the Spirit using her phase, going stiff, and reappearing somewhere close by.

Weapons charms could be all sorts of DBD icons, including totems, pallets, med kits, flashlights, and toolboxes.

In DBD:

Roadhog Clown. Yeah these two just straight-up swap games. Roadhog is certainly the "scariest" character from Overwatch so he's a shoe-in, and again, he just has that right body type and personality. Not much to note cosmetically other than perhaps changing the knife to be like Roadhog's hook.

Reaper Gunslinger. Once again, Reaper is one of Overwatch's only spooky characters, so he probably has to be worked in. I know cowboy stuff is more up Cassidy's alley, and Ashe also has the ADS weapon, but neither of them are really the right vibe for DBD. Even with Reaper, I imagine they'd have to play up his creepiness a little more.

Genji Trickster. Lmao. Genji probably counts somewhere as the third scariest Overwatch hero. Knives easily become shurikens, his bat easily becomes a katana. Maybe they'd want to go for a spookier inspiration for Genji, like using his Blackwatch skin for inspiration.

Tracer, Soldier 76, Mercy, and D.va skins for survivors. Not sure who would exactly fit into who, but these seem the most like "survivor" heroes, especially in the way they play. Tracer and Soldier are known for their speed, and Mercy and D.va feel "helpless" when hunted down. These are definitely the heroes who'd be most fucked-over if you took away their weapons in a slasher scenario.

Charms could include the OW logo, health packs, the elimination skull marker, various weapons from heroes, Winton...

Yeah the content is probably a little more favored towards Overwatch in such a crossover, what with it being easier to translate stuff out of DBD rather than into it. That said, DBD has also tried opening itself up to more categories than just straight-up horror, and in a way I see these games sort of as cousins what with their similar release times. Idk, something about these two franchises feel like they'd come together well.
