Snuggled beneath the blankets, a toasty fire and a cheesy movie playing — a repeated date night like many others with the farmer that I would never grow tired of. They lean against me, their head resting on my shoulder as I take another sip of my wine. The popcorn we had earlier surprisingly paired well with the red wine, but now I felt myself becoming sleepy with the farmer here beside me keeping me warm and comfortable. 

For a few weeks now, we’ve been seeing each other. Maybe not considered ‘official’ quite yet, but I could feel us moving in the same direction. Each night I spent with them I felt myself growing deeper feelings, feelings which I could only dream that they would return. As I cuddled closer to them, adjusting my position to place my arm across their shoulders, I knew that this was a relationship far beyond that of friends or even a new crush. 

I was falling in love. 

“Hey,” I mumbled when the movie credits began to roll, the soft singing of some unknown performer slipping through the speakers. “Do you mind if I stay the night?” I kept my gaze to the tv screen, knowing that if I were to make eye contact I might reveal just how nervous I was to ask this. Normally, in my past relationships, by this point we would be sleeping together. With my question I suddenly became aware of the old condom sitting in my wallet. Good lord, how old was that thing now? Hardly usable based on age alone, but the friction in my wallet had no doubt torn it to shreds. 

I shook the thought away, there was no chance we’d be using that condom, let alone any condom tonight. I could tell the farmer has been apprehensive about becoming intimate, and if we were ever to move forward in that sense it would be when they were comfortable—

“Sure,” they replied with a smile, looking up at me while still relaxing on my shoulder, those gorgeous eyes luring me into a quick kiss on the lips. When they pulled back, they chewed at their bottom lip, their hands coming to sit in their lap while they fiddled with their thumbs. “Look, there’s something I need to tell you.” 

My heart dropped.

The worry in their eyes, their sudden shortness of breath, the way they were the one now avoiding my gaze as they stared down at their lap. 

“Is there someone else?” I asked. My heart felt as if it could burst from my chest. Of course, this all made sense. Of all of the other bachelors and bachelorettes in town, there were much better options than me. Alex and his strength, Penny and her kindness, Harvey with his practice, Sebastian and his homegrown plants in the basement. 

“What?” The farmer laugh, short and sweet. “No-“

“My god, are you dying?!” 

“Elliott, no.” 

“I’ll give you a kidney if you need it, just say the word.” 

“I think we would need a blood test first…”

“Then let’s go to Harvey’s! He can see if I’m a match right now!” 

“Elliott, I don’t want your kidney!” 

“It’s perfectly healthy, I promise!” I pressed my lips together in thought for a moment before continuing. “Wait, does wine affect the kidney or is that the liver? Farmer it might not be that healthy after all but—“ 

“Elliott, No. Look, I’m ace.” 

“Ace?” I paused. Ace. What on earth was ace? “You… don’t have kidneys? Like at all?” 

“No, just,” the farmer covered their mouth, muffling themselves. 

I took their free hand, holding it gently while I looked deep into their eyes. “Please, don’t cry. We can figure this out together, and I’ll be here for you every step of the way.” 

They shook their head, suddenly dropping the hand covering their mouth only to reveal their laugh. The farmer rolled back, forcing me to drop their hand as now both of their hands covered their face while they continued to laugh, only their laughter growing even louder.

“If you’re dying this isn’t funny.” I pouted. 

“No, no—“ they snorted, tears now coming from their eyes. “This is hilarious—“

“I hardly find kidney failure funny—“

They sat up, wiping the tears from their eyes before the spoke. “I’m not dying.” 

I let out a breath. “Oh thank heavens.” 

“Ace means… well, it has to do with sex.” 

“Ahh.. yes, ace.” Right. Ace…. “Actually, no. I don’t know what that means. Does it have to do with golfing? Or poker?” I scratched at the back of my head, it wasn’t that I wasn’t into role play, but I would play a very poor golf instructor. 

The farmer snorted by trying to hold back another laugh. “No, it means I don’t want to have sex. As in… With most standard relationships… There is sexual attraction on both sides. I’m not… sexually attracted to anyone. I don’t get aroused in that sense.” 

“Oh.” 

“And if that’s an issue for you—“

“Are you… boyfriend attracted to me?” 

The farmer tilted their head, baffled. “What?” 

“If you don’t want to have sex, and if you’re not ‘sexually’ attracted to me, am I boyfriend material?” 

“You don’t mind that I don’t want to have sex with you?” 

“Will you keep watching cheesy movies with me and sharing your wine?” 

“Well, yeah—“

I pulled them into a hug, kissing the top of their head before resting my chin there. “Then you’re stuck with me, darling.” 

“And you’re sure you’re okay not having sex?” Their question was muffled by my shirt but still loud enough to be heard. 

“Of course! If I get to spend time with you… I’ll be the happiest man alive.” 

“Thank you, Elliott.” 

“Don’t thank me. Thank the ancient condom in my wallet that kept me from ever making an awkward move on you. It might even be old enough for a sip of that wine by now.” 

“Liar. Let me see this thing.” 

I chuckled and pulled away from them, taking out my wallet and plucking out the condom to be handed over. I didn’t even feel the ridge in it anymore, honestly how old was it? 

“I’ve never even heard of this brand,” the farmer said while they inspected it. 

I nodded. “Pretty sure their factory went up in flames many years ago.” 

“Hm. Sounds like they didn’t protect themselves very well.” The farmer smirked and passed the condom back. “Thanks for being so understanding… I really appreciate that you’ve been so… not pushy.” 

Sliding the condom back into my wallet for no reason, I laughed. “Not pushy Elliott at your service, my dear.” 

They stood, taking my hand and dragging me along with them. “It’s late, we should head to bed.” 

“As you wish… and hey,” I stopped, still holding their hand and made them look back at me. “If I ever make you uncomfortable, just let me know, alright?” 

The farmer nodded and delivered a kiss to my cheek, their free hand coming to rest on my chest. “You have no idea how much that means to me.” 

“You will always mean more to me than sex, I hope you know that.” 

The sadness that flashed across their eyes was something I never wished to see again. I could only imagine how hard this must be for them, and relationships that may have ended because of it.

“My dick on the other hand… will be hard as a rock in the morning and I apologize in advance.” 

“Elliot, oh my god!” 

“It’s human nature!” 

They groaned and smacked my chest. “You ruined the moment!”

“How could I ever?” I laughed and scooped them into my arms, my need for sleep now stronger than ever as I carried them into the bedroom. “When I love you as much as I do!”I dropped the farmer onto the bed, both of us giggling as I crawled under the sheets beside them. 

They dropped their face into their pillow and sighed. “Don’t confess to me after talking about your dick. Tell me you love me again in the morning.” 

I leaned over and kissed their cheek, earning a playful glare in return. “Anything for you.”  I would make sure to tell them as many times as they needed to hear it.

I will write about these 4 characters, otherwise it comes out a lot, hope it's fine for you, dear anon. Enjoy!

Haley:

Honestly, at first she did not understand what it meant.

Well, like yes, she doesn't think that everyone should jump into bed with the first person they meets, but if a partner has already been found, and they are sure that this is their soulmate? What then?

She will ask her sister to explain what asexuality means.

Haley became quite curious, so she will probably ask the Farmer to talk about their gray asexuality over a cup of coffee (if they don't mind).

It's certainly not her style, but she understands Farmer and will be supportive if anyone presses them about it.

As a friend, Haley is very understanding, but as a partner... There can be disagreements.

But in general, she is okay with Farmer's orientation, even if she doesn't fully understand it.

Maru:

You too?

(I once had a headcanon that Maru is asexual, but I never wrote about it and just forgot. Then I remembered and thought it would be nice to write a little)

She understands Farmer very well and also supports Farmer when they start dating.

They are a good person and have always supported Maru in her inventions and everything else, and she will also respond with mutual support.

True, there will be an awkward moment when her mother: when Robin building new rooms in the house and also made crib, which served as a kind of "hint". Robin didn't mean to pressure Maru and Farmer, of course not! It just got awkward.

But hey, it will always be possible to apply for adoption, it doesn't have to go as far as sexual attraction (if the Farmer and Maru want to have children, of course).

If Maru and the Farmer have reached the point that both are connected by a strong emotional connection, then before starting, they will once again ask each other if they want this.

Complete harmony and understanding.

Shane:

Surprisingly, Shane took the news lightly.

In truth, Shane is very touched that the Farmer trusts him enough to tell about their demisexuality.

Sure, people in Stardew Valley are understanding and kind, and they won't start thinking Farmer is a weirdo, but still. They're just who they are, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Shane will be the first to defend the Farmer if anyone starts to convince the Farmer that this is a "transitional stage". Leave them alone, do not impose your "help".

He will also be ok with that if the Farmer and Shane start dating.

He loves the Farmer so much, and he is not going to be pressured into making them do what they don't want.

Sebastian:

Bisexual, homosexual, asexual - Sebastian doesn't care who they are.

Well, it's not like he doesn't care at all, of course not. Just if the Farmer is his good friend, then what difference does it make what orientation they are?

Their choice, their decision, and Sebastian will respect that and remind others to respect the Farmer as well.

Super chill about it.

If he and the Farmer start dating, then it seems to me that this will not cause any problems for Sebastian either.

Today I was helping run the booth for the local queer non-profit at the farmer's market and a woman told me that she would like a flag, pointing to our little bucket of flags. So I picked up the bucket and I brought it over and asked her which one she'd like.

"Well, tell me about them!"

"Oh! Okay! This one is the inclusion flag- its for everyone, including allies."

"What's this one?"

"That's the bisexual flag: it represents people who are attracted to two or more genders."

"Hmm... what about this one?"

"That's the nonbinary flag: it represents people whose gender isn't strictly 'male or female.'"

"Hmm... what's this purple one?"

"That's the asexual flag: it represents people who may not feel sexual attraction the way that others do."

She put her hand to her chest and got this really curious look on her face. "Tell me more about that!"

"Oh, happy to! So like if you're out with your bestie and someone real fine walks by and she's like 'omg look at him' and you're like 'girl get a grip?' Or like you just don't get what the 'big deal' is about sex or why everyone is so weird about it? But there's also room for like- you don't fall in love with the way someone looks, you're attracted to the person- their sense of humor and their kindness, or there's something about their personality that just makes it click for you? That's asexuality, too!"

And she got real quiet and seemed to think about it for a minute. So I grabbed our little informational sheet about different queer identities and handed her a copy. "If you want to do some research, this is probably a great place to start."

She thanked me and took an ace flag, stuck it in her hair.

Sometimes when you're online all the time, its easy to think that 'everyone knows about (topic), there's no reason to keep talking about it so much.' But while the people on the internet are real people, the internet ISN'T real life. And there are lots of people who do need to know that they do have community!

One of the jokes is that I'm a lot of people's 'patient zero' for discovering that they're queer. This is why.

This man is my personal little skrimblo, my grunkle if you will, so I have decided to compile my personal headcannons for him here for you folks!

His personal comfort show is Over the Garden Wall, I can imagine him listening to the soundtrack while he builds :]

He struggles with C-PTSD and RSD, which is possibly canon? Hinted at HEAVILY in his higher friendship/marriage dialogues. I just need him to know it’s gonna be okay ;-;

He enjoys antiquing and thrifting! I feel like he would heavily enjoy the pre-loved items, however making sure to properly cleaning them before he puts them away!

There is absolutely no evidence to prove this, but I feel like he would, or has collected coins. Really not sure why, I just feel like this fits him quite well.

Mentioned this in my last Harvey appreciation post, but I feel like he would be asexual or possibly demisexual! This might also be your local ace wanting more rep, but I get a strong vibe from this man.

He has a fear of getting tattoos. Both the commitment of having something on his body for so long, the risk of infection, and the fear of the actual process worry him, however he hopes to get one to represent Farmer soon :3

Harvey loves bugs. Another one I don’t have any evidence for, but I can just imagine him sitting on a bench outside with a little guy on his hand while he reads, or flipping over stones to make sure the pill bugs are doing well. (Also, he seems like the kind of person who had a bug hyperfixation, coming from someone with one)

He doesn’t know any instruments fluently per say, but he finds the mandolin to be a fun, and good instrument to play around with, especially learning songs for farmer!

He has a complex understanding of the International Phonetic Alphabet, and will go on happy rambles about etymology if farmer inquires! He is a doctor after all, and lots of medical terminology is based in latin, which has a deep connection with the IPA so this would make sense!

He is terrified of dogs, specifically small dogs. They just seem too evil and ill-intended, he cannot understand why these little goblins must be so aggressive, which is honestly valid

Years after inheriting his grandpa’s old farm in Stardew Valley, Achilles Oleander Robinson (pronounced “Ah-sheel” – his mother is French. Supposedly.), has decided it’s finally time to ditch his six figure job in the city and pay the old backwater county of Zuzu a visit.

Whether the sudden visit to Strawberry Farms is motivated by an aching desperation to escape the corporate world or a determination to capture a life he’s long believed to be lost to him, however, remains to be seen. Not that it really matters, though. He’s not planning to stay long enough to figure it out. Clean up the old place, put it on the market, then get on out of there, badabing badaboom. As long as he doesn’t ask himself “What’s Next?” he’s golden.

But the community proves more alluring than he anticipated, the potential some of the members promise more persuasive, and Achilles can’t help but wonder what it is he truly ever wanted. And all the while forest spirits run amok and trouble brews deep within the mountains of Sunspray Peak, reawakening voices he had long learned to bury deep.

🍃 The Good People (Na Daoine Maithe) is a Kickstarter-funded project currently in development. Due to the scope of the story, we will be releasing it serially over several years to Steam and Itch.io, and discounting it while in early access. The earlier it's bought, the cheaper it will be overall, and you'll only need to buy the game once!

🍂 Not all routes are currently available! As of Nov. 1, 2024, you can play half of Shae and Maeve's routes; both approximately 50k words. If you're not sure about paying for an unfinished game, feel free to check out our free demo first. It consists of Vol. 1, Book of the Traveller (the pre-route content). Differences between the demo's Vol. 1 and the paid game's Vol. 1 are marginal following our August 1, 2024 re-release of the demo.

🍃 The Good People (Na Daoine Maithe) has a recommended reading order (Vol. 1, then 2, then 3, etc.), which will correspond to the release order of the routes. For more information on our reasoning behind this, click here.

🍂 Due to its setting, The Good People (Na Daoine Maithe) will occasionally feature instances of characters speaking in Gaeilge, i.e. the Irish language. All instances of Gaeilge are linked to an internal translation tool, which is voiced by Nigel McKeon, a Gaeilgeoir.

🍃 The main character is yours to shape. At minimum, you must choose a nickname, pronouns, and one of four default appearances, the last of which can be your own artwork (instructions are included in the game's files). You may also choose to discard the True Name…

🍂 All routes, both current and upcoming, will have both romantic and platonic choice options. If you're uninterested in romance, feel free to make friends instead! No matter the nature of your relationship, you will still be able to reach the good end. (Want to learn more? Refer to this post!)

🍃 Our cast consists of two men, two women, and two non-binary characters. All are romancable no matter the MC, but some characters are asexual or on the aromantic spectrum, which may impact aspects of their romances.

🧵 Moirai Myths is a five-person company based out of Canada. The core devs/founders go by Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos. All writing and programming are done by this collective, i.e. the Fates.

-Sammy is a cute little guy, almost like a dog wagging it’s tail when they see their owner.

-Sam will write songs about you. It’s not intentional per say, and he thinks he really sucks at writing love songs, but it just happens whenever he has to think about you. The words just start flowing.

-he might or might not have had some steamy shower fantasies about you…while in the shower. Jodie keeps complaining about the water bill being unusually high 👀

-it happened anyway😎 and he doesn’t know how to cope. At all.

-he has to think about you at all times, especially when he looks at the empty jars of delicious pickles you’ve made him

-This man is usually collected, but now?! He forgets everything, can’t even form a comprehensible sentence at times when his mind is busy thinking about a romantic picknick date with a lovely farmer

-Harvey’s libido is pretty much a dead beat horse 💀 but now he even feels the desire to do some nasty nasty at times. It’s still pretty tame, he’s a gentleman through and through, but wild for him to have those feelings and longings after what feels like decades. He’s not mad at it. He has felt low-key dead inside for so long so this is very exciting and he’s eager to explore this side of him…despite being anxious 😭

Elliott:

-he is very dedicated and welcomes those refreshing feelings with a kiss

-feeling better than usual AND having inspiration to write ?! SIGN HIM UP
