A Journey to Belonging
Ryuu Introspection one shot
[Read on AO3]
The people in the hall all offer boisterous greetings to each other; their voices flow comfortably together as if it was something practiced, as if they were all given the same script beforehand.
No matter how many books Ryuu reads on the subject, he could never catch up to the same page as everyone else.
When it comes time to pass him they offer a smile and curt nod.
It’s a familiar ache.
He used to try to include himself, but the practiced phrases never sound as good out loud as they did in his head.
Something about what he says is wrong- the conversation halts. They could sense he didn’t belong.
The silence is so loud.
The flowers refuse to teach him how to open up. He specializes in poisons, instead.
He stops trying.
*
Shirayuki joins the team. As the weeks go on he waits for her to see him for who he truly was and drift off like all the others.
Why doesn’t she?
She shows him her work, and asks his opinions. Continues to listen intently, taking notes when needed and smiling at his conclusions- even thanking him for his time.
His throat feels tight, and his eyes begin to burn.
‘When was the last time I had some water?’ He shouldn’t overdo it. Dehydration would only hinder his research.
Shirayuki turns to him as he stands. Her mouth doesn’t move but her questioning eyes are kind and he wants to answer. “W-water!”
If she hears him stutter, she doesn’t show it.
She simply smiles and goes back to her paper.
It makes him want to try again.
*
Obi makes a joke that gets a reaction out of the other people in the room and it hurts to be left out again.
The words weren’t meant for him.
He pretends to not hear it.
Someone as charismatic as Obi wouldn’t want to wait to hear what he had to say, anyways. He wasn’t witty enough for a conversation with this many people.
Ryuu is startled as a tall lanky form leans against his desk. Gold eyes focused on his face.
“I- Uhm…”
His words were always too loud, his laughter too sudden, he was always trying too hard yet somehow never hard enough.
His mind goes blank.
He feels ashamed that he wasn’t prepared.
Obi lifts a hand to ruffle his hair with a smile, effectively breaking through his intrusive thoughts, offering a silent communication. just for him.
Ryuu closes his mouth and watches in awe as Obi gets comfortable next to him as if it were easy.
Throughout the conversation the taller man pats his shoulder twice, and occasionally moves around some of the items on his desk with a sly grin. It feels as if Obi wanted to make sure his presence was felt.
Ryuu grumbles and glares as he corrects everything, but the corners of his lips threaten to betray him with a smile. It feels nice to have him there.
*
It becomes part of his daily ritual to be crossing the courtyard and have Obi fall from the sky to walk with him.
He doesn’t think he will ever be used to it, but he smiles upon seeing the older man approach him now.
*
When Shirayuki heads to the cafeteria first she always grabs an extra plate for him at dinner. It makes him warm to think that he would be missed if he continued working as he once used to.
They wait for Obi to finish his patrolling shift together.
*
He doesn’t remember when he starts to look forward to these moments with excitement instead of hesitation.
He wishes he could go back in time.
He would give himself a message to hold on to.
It gets easier.
He notices that he no longer has to plan out what to say, and how to say them. Sometimes he stutters, and other times he just shrugs, but his words don’t feel wrong anymore.
The pervasive ache finally subsides.
*

Tumblr media
I don't know why, but I can't help but feel like this guy is autistic (coded).
Maybe it's because of his tendency to repeat things non-stop like "Badassatron."
Maybe because he likes to interact and learn about other people, and yet at the same time, he is a little bit awkward and even uncomfortable when conversing with others.
Maybe it's the way he hyper-fixates on specific interests (like knowing the members of the Cybertronian High Guard).
Or maybe it's because he ignores social cues LIKE A BOSS.
Either way, if you ask me, there is NO WAY this hot piece of metallic ass is neurotypical.

[Brief] Thoughts on Film Theory's Analysis
Tumblr media
I was gonna post this on my priv twt.. but moots convinced me to post it here so here we are.. beware of spoilers, gore, bla bla bla ..
FIRST OFF I'm gonna start by saying, I AM ESL. I may or may not have misinterpreted some of his words, but this is mainly how I thought of his analysis. This is not meant to be ill-guided or rude ! so sorry if it comes off as this way. I will be very repetitive.
Another thing, most if not all of the information matpat gave out i alr discussed with a few mutuals on discord about a few months back so this is not new territory to me 😭😭 I thought most folks would already knew the concept of how the brain deteriorates overtime But honestly, that indisposition shouldn’t even apply to omni man??? matpat tried to compare an immortal Viltrumite's psychology to that of an aging human's, which can be misguided.
Let's start by how he compares Nolan's brain to the average aging human's brain so the audience could understand his psyche more and how empathy declines overtime. First and foremost, Nolan is not a human, second; Nolan wasn't raised with empathy or around an empathetic environment - it was an alien concept to his race. Something frowned upon. He was raised from birth to conquer and destroy without remorse. His brain never developed those neural pathways for empathy in the first place. It's not that they deteriorated over time, they were never even formed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
By the time he came to Earth, all this familial stuff was new to him. Sure, he knew he was gonna outlive them, but He didn't think he'd get attached. HE didn't process that he'd grieve over them when the time came.
Interacting with humanity for the first time ignited unfamiliar emotions in Nolan that he didn’t know how to process.
Tumblr media
His time living amongst humans caused conflicting feelings he’d never experienced in his centuries of systematic slaughter. Loving Debbie and Mark went against everything he was taught, but he couldn't help it. For once, the lives he was manipulating to further Viltrum’s goals meant something to him. He developed a [what he presumed, NOT what he felt about them in reality, his love for them is far more profound than he assumed it to be which we later on see in the last ep of s1 and the second season] petty facsimile of love for his ersatz family.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So no, his capacity for empathy didn't decline with age as MatPat claims. His empathy was stunted from the start. An underdeveloped skill, not a deteriorated one. We had characters like Debbie to help him understand those notions, help him grow it. With Mark in the mix? it only amplified that development.
Viltrumites are societally and culturally predisposed to violence and domination. Nolan was never accustomed to forming emotional connections or grieving loss. Those were entirely new experiences for him after arriving on Earth. He was not jaded. he was grown into jamais vu in viltrum.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is why the whole conflict in s1 happened, he was treading between double lives he wasn't sure of. He was conflicted because his past values were refuting with his new experiences. He found love on Earth, he found himself unable to accept how he'd lose Debbie. Of How jaded Mark might become. Everything he said to Mark till that point was his own self-projections, his own fears, doubts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While the video did provide some interesting facts about neuroscience and aging, the application of those facts to Nolan's character was inaccurate. IT is educational for those who don't know, but it isn't recent news that the brain begins to deteriorate overtime so this video wasn't that informative which kinda disappointed me. Their analysis lacked alot of information about the Viltrumite race and Nolan's character. Comparing him to humans with normal life experiences just doesn't work. His immortal nature combined with a lack of empathy from birth created a psychology unlike anything seen on Earth.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
SORRY FOR RANTING ALOT AND OR IF IT SEEMS LIKE I'M GIVING MATPAT SHIT ... i really liked their analysis on immortal so i'll give them that. Immortal, unlike Nolan, was born human. He has lived among humanity for over 3000 years, inhabiting different identities of public and devoted historians. Because of this, his psyche developed quite differently. Immortal knows how to form connections, experience loss, and adapt to social changes. His perpetual existence didn't harden his heart like Viltrum's brutal culture did to Nolan. Instead, Immortal's immortality allowed his empathy and compassion to blossom.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Humans are social creatures. Our brains have evolved to seek out interpersonal relationships, crave affection, and find meaning in community. For an immortal like Immortal, social interaction is vital to staving off boredom, depression and detachment from humanity.
Tumblr media
By inhabiting mortal lives, he stays tethered to the human experience. He continues learning, growing, and developing empathy.
This is why he's devastated when the guardians die.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is also why he goes fucking mental and tries to kill Omni-man.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If Immortal had lived in isolation all this time, unable to connect with people, his psyche would likely resemble Nolan's more closely. Without social interaction, Immortal's brain would atrophy in ways that preclude complex emotions and moral reasoning. His sense of purpose would fade, achievements would lose meaning, and life itself might feel pointless. By engaging with humanity, Immortal gives his endless existence purpose and direction. He finds value in each temporary life, so loss still impacts him deeply. Socializing keeps his emotions and cognition flexible, which prevents the apathy and hardness of heart seen in Nolan. Nolan never had these opportunities in his early years, this is why it's more difficult for him to stray away from his indoctrination. It's that he's unused to it, underdeveloped.
60 years to Nolan would've been a year and a half, so what's 20 measly years on Earth for him? Yes, he found profound connections in that little speck of time, but Immortal's emotional capacity is far more extensive.
In summary, Comparing Nolan to a human, whether mortal or immortal, is kinda inaccurate. His Viltrumite psyche rules out him from possessing JADED human qualities. You could say he's desensitized to violence sure, but no.. unfortunately.. he does not have [boomer] brain. He has [indoctrinated alien-fascist brain]
Tumblr media
Leave your own thoughts down below or through reblogs, I'm really interested on what others may think of this! (URGHHHNN... my hcs r slipping away from my fingers cuz now people r gonna accept what matpat says as truth.. someone gun me down from the hills..)

Morgan x reid headcanons? (fluff and angst please?)
I'm so sorry this has been sitting my inbox for like 2 months at least. I miss doing headcanons so much, thank you!
--
Morgan takes it upon himself to make sure Spencer eats. Spencer can get so caught up in his own head that he will forget to do basic things. He has also reminded Spencer to use the bathroom but they both would never tell a soul about that.
Spencer in turn makes sure that Morgan doesn't work out too much. It's great that Morgan is into fitness, but Morgan can turn his stress into a workout session that lasts hours and leaves him dehydrated and drained.
Derek is always quick to say what is bothering him while Spencer doesn't like confrontation and will bottle everything up until he pops - crying and yelling over something Derek thinks is small but really was months in the making.
When Spencer has something he wants to communicate to Morgan but he doesn't know how to get his words out - he will write Morgan a letter. Morgan keeps all of the letters - with his favorite being a letter explaining how Spencer really wanted to go to a farm and pet a cow but he wants to make sure he isn't called childish or anything by wanting or doing that.
Finding time for date nights is hard for any working couple, but even harder for people who are always on call and can be home one day and then thousands of miles away from home the next, so Morgan and Spencer don't plan dates - they consider their dates to be anytime they can do something they enjoy together.
For being so in love, Derek and Spencer don't really have much in common - to combat this, Spencer reads about topics that Derek enjoys. Cars, construction, sports - Spencer might not be able to build anything or play a sport but he can still hold a conversation with Derek about it.
Derek makes a point to listen and learn what Spencer is talking about. Spencer loves teaching and sharing what he knows and he loves nothing more than when someone actually cares about what he has to say. Derek hangs onto every word that comes from Spencer's lips.
Derek has a no work talk at home rule. They are at the office enough that Spencer can talk about it there and if they have to talk about it at home, they go for a walk or sit on the patio. Spencer had a hard time with it at first but quickly found out it improved his mental health.

CODING FOR KIDS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
The world of coding can be scary, with obscure symbols and complicated logic. What if we told you it might be a creative and problem-solving playground for children with special needs? Intrigued? Buckle up, because we’re going to discover the thrilling world of adaptive coding strategies!
Tumblr media
Here’s how coding transforms into an inclusive playground:
Block-based coding language: Scratch, Blockly, and Codemonkey Jr, these drag-and-drop interfaces make coding more visual and intuitive, which is ideal for children who struggle with traditional text-based coding. Imagine making colorful animations with just a few clicks!
Voice-activated coding: Speech recognition software allows children with physical restrictions to code using voice commands. This enables kids to contribute and express their creativity via code.
Gamification: Gamifying learning makes it more enjoyable and inspiring. RoboGarden, for example, turns coding into a game in which children solve puzzles and accomplish challenges, thus fostering problem-solving abilities in a fun way.
Physical computing: Makey Makey and Sphero robots are two examples of tools that help to connect the digital and physical realms. Coding becomes tangible and interesting for kids when they can program their robots to overcome difficulties or make their own musical instruments.
Multisensory learning: Multisensory learning environments are very beneficial for kids with special needs. Interactive coding exercises that combine visual, tactile, and audio components improve learning and memory. Through the combination of physical building and programming, interactive coding toys such as Botley the Coding Robot or LEGO Education SPIKE Prime offer a hands-on learning experience.
Tumblr media
Several initiatives have successfully implemented adaptive learning techniques to teach coding to kids with special needs:
CoderDojo’s Autism Pilot Program: The international network of coding clubs CoderDojo has introduced a trial program, especially for kids with autism. Through the use of customized support, visual aids, and sensory breaks, the program established a warm and inviting atmosphere in which kids could flourish.
Tech Access: TeachAccess promotes accessible and inclusive design in technology-based learning. Their materials and training courses give teachers the skills and resources they need to design coding curricula that are accessible to learners of all skill levels.
Apple’s Everyone Can Code Curriculum: All students can benefit from inclusive and accessible coding instruction thanks to Apple’s curriculum, which includes activities and materials designed specifically for students with disabilities.
Remember: It’s all about finding the correct match! Investigate multiple coding platforms, try out new strategies, and celebrate little wins. There is no one-size-fits-all solution, so customize the learning experience for your child’s individual needs and interests.
Coding is more than just building snazzy websites or mobile apps. It is about developing problem-solving abilities, promoting creativity, and instilling confidence. By embracing adaptive learning methodologies, we can provide access to this exciting world for all children, empowering them to become future coders, inventors, and innovators.
