The Asahi Beer Hall, or Super Dry Hall, is a building in Sumida City Ward, Tokyo, adjacent to the headquarters of Asahi Breweries. Located near the famous Tokyo Skytree, It’s home to a three-story restaurant serving beer straight from the factory.
Designed by French designer Philippe Starck, the Beer Hall was completed in 1989. Its shape is supposed to resemble a beer glass, while the headquarters building is shaped like a beer-filled mug complete with suds.
The Beer Hall is topped by the Asahi Flame, also known as the Flamme d’Or. The monument of a golden fire is said to represent the burning heart of Asahi beer and was inspired by the Olympic flame.
Unfortunately, that’s not how it looks to most people. Locals and tourists alike are often confused by the monument’s ambiguous shape.  It’s now commonly referred to as the “Golden Turd.” The building has earned its own nickname as well, “the Poo Building.”

An American sentry guarding the entrance of Balintawak Beer Brewery to prevent anymore GIs from drinking beer. The advance into Manila was temporarily delayed when the first wave of 37th Infantry Division soldiers came across the brewery with its vats of ice cold beer. 🍺
Balintawak Beer Brewery, was a Japanese-owned company that once replaced San Miguel Brewery during WWII. They used this place to brew Asahi beer. 🇯🇵
After the war, the Balintawak Beer Brewery was liberated from the Japanese, and San Miguel Brewery took over again. 🇵🇭

@userdramas get to know me bingo: relationship tanioka hatsune x tokiwa asahi | reversal orchestra (2023)
“So [Asahi] lost all of his confidence, he started to have doubts about pursuing a career in music. He even thought about taking over the brewery at one point. However, he was also worried about whether he could really run a sake brewery, being a non-drinker. But I was Asahi's fan, I really didn't want him to abandon music, so I took him to a certain concert. That was a concert by Tanoka Hatsune, who was still in primary school. It was wonderful. Seeing you enjoying music from the bottom of your heart, Asahi decided to live with music. I think he was happy when he found you. He's a pain in the ass, but take care of him, concertmaster.”

Hope you are having a wonderful trip and sending good thoughts!
Having an absolutely delightful trip!!! Today on Halloween, we went to a tour at the Asahi Brewery Museum (and had a tasting, natch) and then wandered around Dotonbori snacking and people-watching for a few hours. It was really fun!!
Tumblr media
and as a lil trick, I’ll tell you a story I heard as a child that straight-up traumatized me!
I know that a lot of cultures cover mirrors after deaths in the family for a lot of reasons, but the reason I was told as a child was that mirrors were gates to the spirit world. You had to cover them up when family members died because otherwise, you might see your family member in the glass behind you.
Then… what’s worse, really, the idea of your loved one being trapped in a mirror forever or that they might find a way out…?
Anyway, my grandfather died shortly after I heard this and there was a mirror in my bedroom and I cried until my parents took it down lmao. Still have as few mirrors as possible in my house to this day! haha

what beers different groups in middle-earth drink
Men of Gondor: none other Coors Banquet! Rich, satisfying, and widely palatable, no other brew is fitting for such a grand and storied society. Faramir, a sensitive soul, instead goes for Natty Boh, and Denethor has never forgiven him. Sad!
Men of Rohan: India Pale Ales, of course! You need those hops for your brewskis to last during long campaigns on horseback, far from the grand breweries of Edoras. Coincidentally, this means that Meduseld takes on an appearance not dissimilar from Portland, which doesn't seem far off the mark
the Men of the Mountain: Once the Men of the Mountain were an upstanding people, but they reneged, demurred, turned tail on a vow they could not afford to break. They linger on in a cursed half-life, their honor broken, forever spurned by Coors drinkers, and in this afflicted state they drink only O'Doul's non-alcoholic beer. a tragic tale indeed.
Elves: Wine. Mostly expensive. They can tell from the taste if it's from Napa, and if you try to serve them east coast American wine they'll kill you on the spot
Orcs and Goblins: MAD DOG 20/20 BABY LET'S FUCKING GO cmon you know i'm right. Once they were as Elves, but they were brought low, twisted into a strange, brutal new shape, their bodies fortified just as their wine is. Don't knock it, though; if you know where to look, they can serve up some mean fucking port.
Hobbits: Depends on where you look. Closer to the kingdoms of Men, you'll find various ciders, but delving deeper into the Shire, you find a variety of dubbels and tripels, the kind of Dutch and Belgian pale ales that make you wonder what the point of it all is, asking yourself why you drink that shlock they serve at your home pub when this exists.
Dwarves: Porters/stouts. Guinness is on the tame end for these hearty, earthen fucks. Dwarf beer is like drinking mud. You think you can handle a Dwarven coffee stout? Think again, shithead. Dwarf beer is the kind of shit that'll have you singing songs with "hiho" in them.
the line of Numenor: Asahi, the king of beers. Nothing else needs to be said.
Wizards: Modelo. When Saruman began to be warped by Sauron's influence, his noble mind bending to plans of domination, the implacable machinery and chemistry of empire, he became a whisky guy. Like one of those dudes who has the special rocks in his freezer so he can drink it cold without getting diluted
the Nazgul: Once they were great kings of Men. Once they lived, like you and I, and they tasted the fruit of the world and rejoiced as we do now. Once they danced under the stars, savored oats and meat and the water of the spring, and celebrated the good fortune of their existence, but no longer. All that is good has been leeched out of them, their joy, love, and pain all distilled away by the machinery of Sauron, and now they drink twisted, dark things, White Claw, Twisted Tea, Not Your Father's Root Beer, Four Loko, and worse.

Day 8 - Osaka (part 2)
Next up we headed a little bit out of the city to Suita, home of the Asahi brewery museum and working brewery. I don’t know how we’ll ever be able to do a brewery tour again because this was incredible.
One of the first things we got to do was learn about the process, this was projected onto the wall but the effects felt like we were moving with it.
Next up were the VR headsets, for this we were inside the tank where the beer is made, seeing everything that happens in the process.
After this you walk to a viewing platform and get to see the working brewery in action but only the filling, labelling, cleaning and packing side to it. They produce over 6 million 350ml cans a day!
Next was the best part (aside from tasting) the Super Dry Go Ride. In the ride you get to experience being a can on the production line, from being filled, to washed, to being packaged. There was water mist and bumpy vibrating chairs as we went along the conveyer belts. Absolutely brilliant!
Lastly the tasting, we had 2 beers included in the tasting first up Michael had their draft beer Maruef and I had their black beer, both very nice! Second we both had the extra cold Super Dry, this was below 0 degrees and we got to pour it ourselves!

cool frame but im more interested in the background details
Tumblr media
Asabi plaque obviously is referring to a real-life japanese drinks brand, Asahi. i associate it with beer, as the brand began as Asahi Breweries, so it was very confusing how would anyone allow beer company sponsor arena where teenagers play (this view has so much to do with recent alcohol law where i live). But there's a subordinary of Asahi Soft Drink.
Japan has similar drinking laws as here, but seems like advertisement laws are more loose. but it could also be referring to soft drinks, dunno
