so that's what i've been working on for the past 2 weeks! i wanted to draw something for this intro ever since i first listened to it (as a companion piece to my other gur drawing, though it of course ended up being way bigger in scale), but it only really gripped me about halfway through PALISADE ep 18. the next morning after that i listened to this narration on repeat for about 45 minutes and then made a big sketch on 4 sheets of paper at my desk at work.

anyways, i haven't listened to the new episode yet but i think i'm probably ready for whatever they're gonna throw at us with the next sortie. i'm gonna believe, against it all, in millennium break. for gur

one thing that really fascinates me about alex is his devotion to art – and more specifically, how he chooses to get some inspiration from scientific works of what he aims to implement in his art. every time one gets to examine some of his lyrics, or even how he explains these lyrics in an interview, they can be greeted by some bits of actual scientific information. an example is how he named his taquería on the moon with the term “information-action ratio”, coined by the critic neil postman, and referenced it in the song four out of five, something that might also indicate an interesting articulation with postman's concept. the line “cute new places keep on popping up”, for example, can express his well-known sardonic discontent regarding the flood of information being generated and transmitted over and over and, as much as it seems visually appealing and does give the idea of benefiting from advanced technologies, it doesn't really add anything substantial to the receiver's critical thinking – and worse, it distances the information receiver from the sender in a communication channel, according to postman.

what i'm saying with this interpretation is, it's known that alex is enamoured with the idea of gathering a bunch of references and condensing them into a mixture of metaphors in his writing, but it's so thrilling how, at times, we can find some bits of science inside of it – and it's even more exciting, just like playing a puzzle game, to find these references and analyse them by doing a similar research to what he did to create his works.

i think something that people miss about the "you should be reblogging creative work, not just liking it" stuff is that so many people who arent making these creative works are so in the mindset of QUANTITY of notes over QUALITY of notes.

maybe this is in part because of other social media (like instagram, twitter, and youtube) where the creator is rewarded based on the quantity of likes, but y'all have to understand that us tumblr creators, for the most part, do not care about the quantity of notes. yes, it's nice to know that 700 people liked a gifset we made! but it's disheartening to see that only, like, 5 people reblogged it onto their blog so other people could see it and enjoy it too. part of tumblr as a SOCIAL media is that we are meant to interact with each other here, and if you only like stuff, you're limiting the social aspect of a wide platform of users.

fic writers want to see your comments about how they wrote that one scene. fanartists want you to get excited about the way they draw your favorite characters. gifsets like what we have here on tumblr don't exist like this anywhere else. why don't you want to show these creators off to your friends and followers? don't you want to show off how cool these creations and their creators are?

ive always adored the themes used in prsona games especially how it dictates how deties and their domains or realms look like. id notice theres these animalistic and alien motifs in p3. like the feathers and plumes of corvids as they're associated with death. the moon??

and more humanoid appearances with p4 deities while especially trying to emphasize human concepts to bring out a sort of uneasiness and uncanniness in a person, because youre looking at something youre aware how it should look like if it were "normal". youre presented with figures that are rotting and deformed and burnt alive, but are still flailing their limbs around, or whats left of it. if they have no legs or too much arms, or multiple faces morphed onto their torso or a decaying body contorted in the wrong directions. it's pure horror and they couldve leaned more into that honestly

and when it gets to p5, youre shown how flesh and machine intertwine. how something clearly that is fantasical is also manmade, figuratively and literally. everything's eerily organic while blood rains everywhere and muscles and tendons creep into the environment like weeds growing over the concrete of buildings. yet, there's the rigid geometry that is nowhere near natural, while gears and cogs turn as you climb up stairs that leads to a heaven that's more of a hell and kill god itself.

i really try to avoid being condescending when discussing media because i hate that tone and it was never that serious but how do you guys deal with people who deliberately misinterpret characters in bad faith? have they ever heard of the concept of nuance?
