(Valor’s Interrogation)
Haley: state your name, rank and intention.
Mon El: Valor. Third in command of the team, Sovereign’s Commanding Officer and Supergirl’s husband. To help Supergirl in whatever way she may need.
Haley: why did you come to earth.
Mon El: entirely by accident I can assure you. I’m a refugee. Just like Supergirl. Just like Superman. Just like Sovereign. Just like every alien on this planet that didn’t escape from Fort Rozz.
Haley: what is your motivation here?
Mon El: what’s yours?
Haley: I’m the one who is asking the questions here.
Mon El: well I’m here voluntarily aren’t I? Or at least I thought I was. Or is that just something you say before you break out the handcuffs? Which I feel like I should remind won’t work on me.
Haley: we’re getting off topic. Who is Supergirl. What is her real identity?
Mon El: not telling. And you cannot make me.
Haley: I can get a court order.
Mon El: which would be null and void because as I have previously mentioned. I am Supergirl’s husband. See. I don’t understand you people. You hunt down the ones who actually want to help while endorsing people like the Luthor’s who just want to subjugate you. It’s actually maddening when you think about it.
Haley: the Luthor’s are American citizens.
Mon El: who gives a shit about that? They’re psychopaths only in it for themselves.
Haley: don’t you dare raise your voice to me.
(The “Interrogation” continues. Behind the glass. Kara, Alex and Winn keep watch)
Alex: he’s really got her on the ropes
Winn: I know. It’s amazing. Kara. The windowsill.
Kara (realising she’s been putting dents into the windowsill): heheh. oops.
Alex: is he speaking Daxamite?
Kara: yeah.
Winn: whets he saying?
Kara: um. “Why should I sit here and listen to you disparage the woman that I love. Why go after us when”-I guess Luthor’s-“run free? What right do you have to persecute us when the real villains”-
(Back in the interrogation room)
Haley: speak English!
Mon El: alrighty then. You. Will not get. Anything. Out of me. Short of vivisecting me of course. But then you’d have to sully your human hands. And we can’t have that now can we?
Haley: what is Supergirl’s identity?
Mon El: I have spousal privilege. I am Supergirl’s husband. If you want to harangue someone deserving then haul in Lena Luthor because I can assure you that her sins are worth an entire week of questioning.
Haley: this isn’t about Miss Luthor. This is about aliens like you threatening our people.
Mon El: oh you remind me so much of my mother. She was a paranoiac as well. Only. She was in charge. You’re more like a deputy sheriff.
Haley: your mother. What happened to her?
Mon El: she tried to terraform the planet. I broke her neck, became king and sent what’s left of my species away to save earth. Does that make me sound like a threat to you?
Haley: it remains to be seen.
Lucy: well then. You have your answers. Now let Valor go and stop Baker’s witch-hunt before it ends worse for you
Haley: Major Lane. This is no business of yours. Kindly leave.
Lucy: hm. Nope. I’m the DEO’s JAG. I minored in alien and superhero law. It’s a subject close to my family’s heart. Especially after my father was rightfully dishonourably discharged.
Haley: do you really want to throw in your lot with them?
Lucy: yup. And Valor’s right. You can’t make him expose his wife’s identity. Now I suggest you let him go before I report you.
Haley: President Baker ordered this interrogation.
Lucy: not. Him. You know who my brother in law works for. You know who Director Danvers’s sister works for. Perry White and Cat Grant may not see eye to eye on everything. But I’m sure they would love to coauthor an exposé on your less than legal practices.
Haley: very well. Valor. You may go. But don’t think I won’t be following up in the future.
Mon El: I’d say it was a pleasure meeting you General Haley. But given the circumstances I’d rather not lie.
Haley: yes. Well. Goodbye.
Mon El: right back at ya(.)

Tentatively stepping through the doorway, Lena was greeted by the natural wintry gleam of the Fortress of Solitude. She had only been there that one time all those months ago, but the surroundings appeared familiar enough, seemingly burned into her memories as a particularly difficult flashbulb of an experience.
Cold. Dimmed lighting. Wide open spaces that gave off the illusion of emptiness despite holding some of the most important secrets to be kept in the world.
And in the middle of it all, stood Kara Danvers, still dressed in her Super regalia, staring off into the distance like little else mattered.
“Kara.” Lena rushed forward, the clack of her heels bouncing off the polished walls in an anxious rhythm that rivaled that of her heart.
Kara looked over, blank expression slipping slightly. “Lena?” she murmured, sounding surprised, though not at all startled. “How’d you get out?”
“… Out?” Lena echoed, but Kara didn’t elaborate. Maybe the disconnect was to be expected though, and there were more important things at stake for the moment, so, “Kara, you need to come back.”
“Back.” Kara chewed on the word, tasting the implications like they weren’t quite to her liking. Then she gave a single nod. “Oh. I see.” And with that, Kara turned her back on Lena and walked right off, right into the distance that gradually converged into a yawning doorway.
--
Lena had no choice but to chase after her. “I know why you’re doing this, Kara. And you have to know that it wasn’t your fault. None of it was.”
Kara didn’t answer. She didn’t have to. Her silence was already speaking volumes just by stretching on and on, running parallel to the seemingly never-ending hallway.
“Will you at least explain what you’re doing here?” Lena demanded, her patience eaten up by a sense of urgency that was somehow eluding Kara. Time was of the utmost importance—that much had been impressed upon her repeatedly and emphatically before she made this journey. “Look, I’m not going to leave until you talk to me.”
Mild amusement flitted over Kara’s features as she looked back at Lena. “How’d you even get here?”
“Does it matter?”
“No.”
Then when Kara made no move to continue their conversation, Lena sighed in exasperation, “I have my ways, okay?”
“Of course you do,” Kara said easily. “I’m just… surprised that they’d send you, of all people.”
“I volunteered to come. Well, I insisted anyway.”
Kara glanced back at her again, expression now unreadable. “We’re not even friends anymore,” she said, matter-of-fact, no malice intended or needed. “We haven’t talked for—what—six months? I guess what I’m trying to say is that, you wouldn’t have been my first pick.”
“And I’m sure the many people who were opposed to my coming here would agree,” Lena said, but Kara didn’t take the bait, falling silent once more. “Where are we going anyway? What’s down here that’s so important that you have to see it right now?”
Kara took an abrupt left turn, and the hallway opened up just as abruptly into an endless series of shut doors, all evenly spaced out along either wall. Each door was fashioned with its own nameplate, which was of little interest to Lena until she started recognizing the names. By then—trailing behind Kara, passing by doors that read James, Winn, Kal-El, and a few with lettering that could only be Kryptonian—it became all too clear why they were there.
Lena’s sense of purpose was renewed, however, when Kara walked right past a door labeled Alex without slowing. “Wait, that’s where we have to go,” she called out in realization. “We need to get to Alex, right? Right, Ka—Kara! Hey, where are you going?”
But Kara evidently wasn’t listening, her stride only cut short upon arriving at another door altogether. The door was plain and simple enough, except in that it was one of the very few without its own handle. The name Mon-El was etched into the dull gold, just barely catching in the light at eye level.
“They disappear sometimes,” Kara said. “The doorknobs, I mean. Well, the doors too, but there’s always another to replace them so… it’s hard to keep track.”
Lena tried her best to not acknowledge the predictable twinge of nausea that twisted in her stomach. “What’s in there?”
“When I could still open it, I’d just see his spaceship disappearing into the horizon.” Kara shrugged. “I’m sure there were other things too, but it’s been years.”
“… Kara, let’s get back to Alex’s door,” Lena said, clearing her throat, ridding herself of any lingering pangs of unjustified jealousy. “It still has a doorknob, so we can still get in there, right? That’s what that means?” But Kara was ignoring her. Again. “Are you even listening to me right now?”
“You say that to me a lot in here.”
And just as Lena was about to ask what the hell Kara possibly could mean by that, she noticed yet another door, just a bit farther down the hall, literally with her name on it.
“You can go in there, I think,” Kara continued, shrugging again. “There aren’t really any hard and fast rules here, but that might be the only door you can open without me.”
Lena, inevitably, took a pause.
Her door appeared more intricate the longer she studied it. The rich, glossy oak with accents of rose gold. The plumerias carved into the wood at every corner. A touch of cursive to her name, lovingly engraved across the polished nameplate. It had a delicate padlock that looked more decorative than practical, but Lena already knew that it would fall away for her, if she wanted.
Admittedly, it took a rather lengthy moment for Lena to successfully tear her eyes away from the door. “That’s not why I’m here.”
“Well, there isn’t much else I can give you besides that,” Kara said, promptly moving on, venturing deeper into the hallway that only opened up to more and more hallway with a seemingly inexhaustible supply of doors.
“Kara, stop…” Lena abandoned her door to chase after Kara again. “I’m serious,” she pleaded, seizing Kara by the elbow, tugging insistently. “Let’s go through the Alex door. We can go together.”
Kara shook her head, shaking her arm when Lena refused to loosen her grip. “Let go,” she snapped, eyes briefly flashing red, and Lena unfortunately flinched away from her. Huffing hard, Kara then pivoted away, slipping through the closest door and Lena slipped in right after her before it could swing shut.
The whole world was on fire.
Proud buildings coming down in flames. Air condensed into a thick black smoke. Everyone dying around her…
Coughing, Lena was immediately forced to press her sleeve to her mouth and nose. The door was nowhere to be seen. After a more thorough survey of her surroundings, she finally noticed a slumped figure in the relative distance. It was hard to make out anything in the light of the fading red that made up the sky, but who else could it be? Lena made her way over.
Thankfully, Kara wasn’t too far. She was just sitting atop a darkened precipice, arms around her knees as she watched the world die before her.
“This…. is Krypton,” Lena said as she realized. “Kara. You can’t stay here. This can’t be healthy…”
“And you, of course, would be the resident expert on keeping healthy habits,” Kara said, and her sarcasm didn’t even need a bitter tone to land.
And that about settled it.
Lena grabbed a piece of smoldering debris—still warm, somewhat spongey, surely not fatal—and lobbed it as hard as she could at the back of Kara’s head.
The projectile bounced off harmlessly enough, but Kara slowly turned around, eyes widened. “Ow…?” She pressed a hand gingerly to the back of her head, no doubt still tender from the blow. “What are you doing? The sun isn’t yellow here!”
“None of this is even real!” Lena snapped, and to prove it, she lifted a much larger piece of debris that normally would have buckled her with its mass. When she sent that hunk of rock sailing through the air, Kara finally demonstrated some life and dove out of the way.
“What the hell, Lena?” Kara said, some frustration and thus vigor breaking through the monotony. “What are you doing here? Why did you even come?”
“I want to see what’s behind Alex’s door!” Lena threw back, just as frustrated and then some. “What is this, Kara? Behind one door, you see your home planet imploding. Behind another, you see the man you loved leaving you forever. So, what the hell could possibly be happening in the one for your sister? Whose life, by the way, is still hanging in the balance, in case you forgot.”
Kara huffed, whirling away. “That’s none of your business.”
“You made it my business by fucking off to wherever this is,” Lena said, fighting to maintain eye contact as Kara tried repeatedly to turn her back on her. “You made it my business by making me come after you! So, just do me one fucking favor, and just tell me—”
“I kill her.”
Lena fell silent, blinking, the soundtrack to her sudden hesitation coming alive in the sounds of the world burning up around her.
“I kill her in there. Over and over and over again.” Kara’s words were falling out like she couldn’t stop them, an outpouring of shame and relief rolled into one. “She dies by my hand, only to die all over again, and again, and—”
“Okay, I get it,” Lena hastily cut in. “Well, no. I don’t get it, get it, but… what do you mean you kill her? How…?”
Kara covered her face with a sharp exhale. “Lots of ways! Heat vision. Super strength. Sometimes I’m just throwing her off a building. Other times, I’m choking the life out of her with my bare….” She broke off, voice drying up. “I don’t want to go in there, okay? Stop asking me.”
“Kara, this… this is ridiculous,” Lena eventually sputtered. “Alex isn’t dead. She’s hurt bad, yeah, but how could you possibly give up on her when—”
“Because it doesn’t matter,” Kara said flatly. “Because if not now, it’ll be some other time. She’ll die, and it’s going to be all my fault.”
“But what happened to her isn’t your fault.”
Kara sighed, heavily and exhausted, and suddenly she looked every bit the lonely woman who’d lost everything in a way only few people have. “Lena… Everything down here’s my fault.”
Her entire body sagged then, and she was back on the ground, curled up and watching the horizon again. So, Lena just walked over and sat next to her.
Everything was steadily plunging into darkness. There were more cracks ripping apart the earth than there were buildings, people, or even life in general. The fire climbed higher and everything was smothered in smoke, but all Lena had to do was consider taking a clean breath of air, and she could.
“What happens when it’s over?” Lena asked.
“Just starts up all over again.”
“Okay then.”
After a while, when the sky was too obscured to distinguish from the ground, Kara directed her gaze to her own feet. “… You ever think about what yours would look like?”
“My mind palace, you mean?” Lena asked, and Kara nodded. “Oh, I already know. Boxes.”
Kara exhaled a dry chuckle or two. “Boxes? That’s it?”
“Maybe some filing cabinets too. Just to keep everything organized,” Lena said, and she was mostly joking, but also not. “Boxes just always worked for me.”
“… Is there a box in there with my name on it?”
Lena blew out a breath, shakily laughing at the self-evidence of it all. “Of course there is, Kara.” Maybe even more than one, though they didn’t have to get into that now, or ever.
“Do you want to know what happens behind your door?” Kara asked haltingly, gaze still dropped.
“Not at all. I’m sure whatever it is, I’ve imagined much worse on my own terms,” Lena said, and Kara kinda laughed again, but wouldn't disagree. “… You know what happened to Alex wasn’t your fault, right?”
“Might as well have been. Should’ve been there.”
“You can’t be everywhere at once, Kara. That can’t be expected of anyone, even Supergirl.” And when Kara gave no indication that she was listening, Lena continued with a sigh, “If Alex could be here, she’d say the same exact thing. Though I’m sure she’d include some Midvale lingo and much more swearing.”
“What’s Midvale lingo?”
“If I knew, I wouldn’t be above using it right now.”
Kara didn’t laugh this time, just nodded solemnly before asking, “How long have I been in here?”
“You’d been out for almost six hours when I made my way over.”
“Did Alex improve at all while I’ve been gone?”
“That’s not really a thing you can tell just by looking,” Lena said vaguely. She didn’t want to lie, but she also didn’t want to give Kara any reason to stay behind.
But Kara looked at her like she knew exactly what Lena was trying not to say. She’d always been so good at reading Lena, or maybe Lena had always been so bad at hiding things from Kara. Either way, if only it had been vice versa, maybe they’d be on better terms now.
“I don’t want to come back just to watch her die. I’ve already done that too many times in here.”
“If she does die, you’re going to regret not being there.”
The ground underneath them started to crumble and come apart, falling in on itself, and Kara watched it happen with disinterest while Lena just watched Kara. But eventually, finally, Kara seemed to come to a real decision because she carefully took Lena’s hand in hers, and Lena let her.
“… Thank you for coming,” Kara said quietly, barely audible over the world falling apart.
“Thank you for coming back.”
They watched the last of the world collapse around them, swallowing them up in a pitch darkness.
//
Lena jerked awake with a gasp in her corner of the room, but everyone was by Kara, clamoring around her, greeting her with words of worry and such. And Lena just nodded to herself because everything was back to being how it should.
She disengaged the electrodes and pulled the wires off her head, and Brainy appeared by her bedside to help her remove the last of it.
“You were successful,” he said. “I knew you would be. You had the best chances of getting her out of that state, though 67% of the people in this room did think differently. But thank you for bringing her back.”
“I didn’t do a thing,” Lena said honestly. She glanced down at her watch out of habit, and the numbers blurred and made little sense to her weary brain, but it was time to leave. That much was obvious. “It’s late. I should get going.”
“You don’t want to talk to Kara?”
Lena looked over, and just past Nia’s shoulder, she saw Kara staring right at her. “I think she has better things to do tonight,” she said, stepping into her heels, neatly pulling her hair into a tidy bun. “Please give our hero my best, and… keep me apprised of Alex’s condition as well.”
Pausing on her way out, Lena threw back one last glance. Kara was still staring at her. Her mouth was moving and answering questions as they were offered up by the people around her, but her eyes would only meet Lena’s from across the room. Kara half-raised her hand in a subtle gesture, and Lena took the wave for what it was and turned on her heel to leave, refusing to entertain the persistent itch to look back the entire time.

“I Love You, You Idiot”
@sunday-romance tagged me in a prompt thing and I decided to roll with it. (its longer than its supposed to be but oh well)
Kara/Lena; 1.5k words
AO3 link in reblog
Kara knew she had too much to drink. She knew she had too much to drink, but she didn’t care. It wasn’t every night she let herself take part in the only alcohol strong enough to actually get her drunk.
Tonight was special. She was celebrating the night before…
The night before…
Kara furrowed her brows and brought the beer to her lips, taking a slow sip. What was she celebrating? Looking around the alien bar, she spotted Alex and Maggie neck to neck in an intense game of pool, and James and Winn having a little too much fun on the karaoke machine.
She was celebrating with her friends, that much was clear.
After thanking M’gann for her drinks, Kara hopped from her stool and stumbled away from the bar to Alex, who leaned over the pool table and reared back her stick for a clean shot.
“Alex.”
Jerking, Alex hit the cue ball off center, sending it rolling pathetically away from her intended target.“Jesus, Kara, wear a bell,” she said, handing a smug Maggie the pool stick.
“Sorry, but why exactly are we here?”
Alex raised an eyebrow and seized the beer from Kara’s grasp. “I think that's enough drinking for one night.”
Kara groaned in protest, arms outstretched and reaching for the bottle, opening and closing her hands in a grabby motion. “Alex,” she whined.
Maggie swiped the bottle from Alex’s hand and returned it back to a now smiling Kara. “C’mon Alex, it's her last night of freedom.”
“Yea, Alex, it's my last night of freedom,” Kara echoed, taking a hearty drink. Maggie’s words sank into her alcohol infused brain. Eyes growing comically wide, Kara asked, “Freedom from what exactly? Will I be captured tomorrow?”
“Of course not Kara, you’re getting-”
“Kidnapped,” Maggie cut in, earning herself a swift jab to the ribs. “What? It would be cruel to lie.” She grinned a shit eating grin.
Kara slumped into the nearest chair, devastation falling over her. What was she supposed to do with that information? She buried her face in her hands, images of Lena filling her mind.
Lena.
“I have to propose to Lena.” Kara stood with newfound determination, setting her beer down on the table next to her. “If it’s my last night of freedom, I must make it count.”
Alex shook her head. “Definitely too much beer.” She grasped Kara’s shoulders. “Tomorrow you-”
“Will have no time to propose,” Maggie cut in once more. “You must do it tonight.” Another jab to the ribs. Clutching her stomach, Maggie muttered, “Worth it.”
Kara nodded solemnly. “I must make my last few hours worth it.” Slinging her jacket over her shoulders, Kara headed for the door. “I need to get to Lena as soon as possible.”
She was halfway out the door and ready to take flight when Alex grabbed her arm. “No drinking and flying. We’ll get a taxi.”
Maggie whooped from behind her, causing a small grin and an eye roll from Alex. Kara couldn’t understand their less than devastated mood. She was going to be Kidnapped tomorrow. Kidnapped.
Kara stormed out of the alleyway, nearly plowing down a couple in the process.
“Watch where you’re going!” The man shouted, waving the fist that wasn’t clasped in his partners hand. A flash of light drew Kara’s attention from his scowling face to the ring that sat snuggly on his left ring finger.
Gasping, she forgot about the couple and turned to Alex. “I need a ring.”
“Kara, I doubt there’s going to be any jewelry stores open so late.” Alex gestured to the night sky above them.
“I can’t propose to Lena without a ring, Alex. It would be…” Kara searched for the right word, waving her arms above her head. “Wrong!” she practically yelled.
“What are you guys doing out here?” James appeared from behind Maggie, Winn followed closely after.
Kara pushed past Alex and Maggie and gripped James’ jacket in desperation. “I need a ring James.”
“A ring?”
“Yes a ring!” Kara burst. “You guys act like proposing with a ring is a tradition from another planet, when I know for a fact it's not!”
James looked to the others for a little more context on what the hell was going on.
“She’s going to propose to Lena,” Maggie supplied with a wink.
“Thank you for pointing out the obvious, Maggie,” Kara said. “Now will someone please help me find a ring?!”
“Didn’t you already…?” Winn looked to Alex. “Didn’t she already…?”
Kara’s eyes snapped to Winn. Using her X-Ray vision, Kara spotted the Ring Pop that she gave him a few hours back. Winn followed her eyes, groaning as she dropped her hand from James’ jacket and rushed forward.
“Kara, no, I was saving that for later,” he said, holding his hands out in front of him.
Kara looked at Winn with her best set of puppy dog eyes yet. “Please Winn? I’ll buy you another. I’ll buy you a million others.”
Winn held his pocket. “Kara I-”
“Please?”
“Oh alright,” Winn broke, retrieving the Ring Pop and reluctantly handing it over. “I’m holding you to your word.”
“Yea, sure,” Kara mumbled, admiring the candy ring. “It’s perfect.”
As Alex hailed a taxi, Maggie threw her arm around Kara’s shoulder, coming to her tippy-toes in the process. “C’mon Gollum, you have a woman waiting for you.”
--
Kara fiddled with the wrapper as the elevator to Lena’s apartment rose. Nerves fluttered around in her stomach as a thousand possibilities played through her head. She turned her Alex, face pale. “What if she says no?”
Alex bit her lip and laid a hand on Kara’s bicep. “She won't, Kara, I’m positive of that.”
“But what if she does?” Kara’s fiddling increased, the crinkling sound reverberating throughout the elevator. “We’ve been through so much, Alex. I can’t stand to lose her.”
Alex’s eyes softened. “You don’t have to worry about that.”
Kara tried to believe her, but as the elevator dinged, and Lena’s door came into sight, Kara’s butterflies only intensified. On shaky legs, she made her way to the door and knocked.
Sam answered, raising a brow at Kara’s nervous state. “Kara? Is everything alright? We weren’t planning on seeing you until-”
“Who’s there?” Lena asked from somewhere inside the apartment.
Kara nearly plowed through Sam and spotted Lena on the couch, sporting a glass of wine and a raised eyebrow.
“Kara?” Lena stood from the couch and crossed the room, taking in the nervous energy. She shot a glance towards the small crowd that trailed in not long after Kara. “Is everything alright?”
Kara brought her free hand to Lena’s face, her nervousness floating away. This was Lena. Lena who she loved more than ever. Lena who she knew loved her back. Her hand dropped as she fell to one knee.
“Kara what are you-?”
“Lena, I am going to be kidnapped tomorrow and this very well be my last chance to say this.”
“What?” Lena looked towards Alex, who mouthed, ‘she’s drunk.’
Taking a deep breath, Kara dived in. “I love you, Lena. I love you so much. I love that when you smile your head tilts to the side just a bit and your nose scrunches up. I love how your tongue pokes out of the corner of your mouth when you’re in deep concentration. I love the way you can command a room with just one raise of your perfectly sculpted eyebrows and how the sunlight catches your eyes and makes the green sparkle.” Kara grabbed Lena’s hand. “I love how you’re so strong despite everything you’ve gone through. I love how you work so hard to make the world a better place, defying everyone's expectations. I love how forgiving you are. Rao, I even love the way you make your tea.” Kara’s eyes darkened, her voice deepening. “And I especially love-”
Alex cleared her throat loudly. “I think she gets the point, Kara.”
“Yes, the point. The point is,” Kara said as she opened the wrapper, her eyes never leaving Lena’s, “I love you so much, and it would be devastating if I didn’t get to call you my wife at least once.” Kara held up the Ring Pop, tears filling her eyes. “Lena Kieran Luthor, owner of CatCo, L-Corp, and my heart, will you marry me? Preferably tonight?”
“Kara.” Lena breathed, her own eyes growing misty. “As I said a few months back, yes, it would be my pleasure to be your wife. Though we will have to wait till tomorrow for the wedding.” She took the Ring Pop from Kara’s outstretched hand and put it on her ring finger where a more appropriate engagement ring sat.
Kara blinked. “A few months ago…?” She looked down at her own ring finger, where she found a ring identical to Lena’s. As her memories came rushing back, Kara stood, her face heating in embarrassment. She rounded on her friends, who burst out laughing, clutching their stomachs. “You guys are...are...are meanies!”
“Go easy on them.” Lena laughed, turning Kara back around so they could be face to face once more. She leaned forward and their lips met in a kiss, momentarily wiping all embarrassment and anger from Kara’s mind. Pulling back and resting her forehead on Kara’s, Lena said, “I love you, you idiot.”
Kara scoffed playfully at the insult before her face broke into a fond smile. “I love you too,” she said before recapturing Lena’s lips, ignoring the chorus of gags from behind them.

Goodbye
Kara x Reader
Request: mmm idk if this can classify as heartbreak but reader getting kidnapped by cadmus and when kara comes to rescue her, she watches reader take her last breaths because kara was too late. you can make it as angsty as you want tho
Warning: death, shooting, mourning
Note: damn this made me sad writing LOL i hope u like it:( lmk if u want a part 2 of Kara dealing with it
It started off as a normal day at the DEO. Kara felt guilty because she didn’t see any of the times you called her, so she decided to give you a call. She got a little worried when you didn’t answer, but you always told her she worried too much about you, so she let it go. She figured you were busy or something. All of the sudden Winn announced that someone was trying to hack into our servers.
“I think they’re trying to livestream something to our computers” he said typing away.
“Let them, lets see what this is” Alex responded.
Winn nodded and let the video go onto to the big screen. On the screen there was a girl, bound to a chair. It took a few moments but then Kara realized...
The girl was you.
“No” is all Kara could say. Nobody else knew who it was. To be fair, you were pretty beaten up. The blood made it hard to be recognized, but Kara was sure.
“Oh my god. Winn find them, NOW!” Alex ordered, realizing it was you.
Winn nodded and instantly started doing what he does best.
“Can I uh- ask whats happening? Who is that?” Winn asked.
“Its Y/N” Kara said. The DEO fell silent. They all knew who you were. You were there often, bringing Kara food or just to say hi. They all loved you there. You would often bring enough food or coffee to feed all the agents.
All Kara could do was stare at you in disbelief. All of the sudden, none other than Lillian Luthor stepped in front of the camera.
“Winn turn our camera and mic on” Alex said. Winn nodded and did just that.
“Where is she?” Kara screamed.
Lillian laughed. “Oh calm down would you? I’m going to send you the address in exactly 1 minute.. but then it will be too late of course”
“I’ll kill you” Kara said coldly, and Lillian just smiled.
Lillian turned to you and watched 2 guards come and untie you. They held you up while you struggled against their hold. Without hesitation, Lillian brought out her gun and shot you in the stomach. Kara screamed out with tears in her eyes, but it was too late. Lillian smiled at the camera and told you the address to find her.
Alex grabbed her arm, “You’re not going alone”.
“What are you gonna stop me?” Kara asked coldly.
“That is an order, you will wait!” Alex yelled.
Kara stared into Alex’s eyes, “Would you wait if it was Maggie?”
When Alex couldn’t answer, Kara flew off without warning. She flew faster than she ever has before. By the time she got to the building, Cadmus had cleared out. She used her super hearing to find you, the heartbeat was faint but it was there. She instantly sped towards your side and held you. She used her x-ray vision to see your injuries. Her heart broke when she knew it was too late.
“Y/N? Can you hear me?” Kara cried out.
“Kara?” you spit out, finding it hard to speak.
“Yes Yes I’m here okay, everything’s going to be okay”
“I’m gonna die aren’t I?” you asked.
Kara just looked away, and that told you everything you needed to know. At this point, Kara was sobbing. You’ve never even seen Kara cry before.
“I can’t live without you” Kara said breaking down.
You smiled, “Kara you’re the strongest person I know, you’ll be okay”
All Kara could do was shake her head. You asked if Alex could hear us through the comms and Kara nodded.
“Hey Alex” you choked out, “Don’t let this kill her okay? I can’t go knowing this will kill her”
You couldn’t hear her response but you knew she understood. The pain was starting to get to you and you cried out.
“Kar I’m scared” you said softly.
“I know babygirl, I know” Kara said comforting you through her own cries.
You sat there for awhile, while Kara stoked your hair, and suddenly the pain started to dull, and you didn’t feel cold anymore.
“Hey I’m starting to feel a little better Kar, it doesn’t hurt anymore. Maybe I’ll be okay... maybe it’s worse than it seems” you said hopefully.
Kara knew that was a bad sign. Kara knew that meant you were getting closer and closer to death.
“Yeah you’re going to be okay” Kara lied to calm you.
“We should’ve moved in together. I know we wanted to wait and we didn’t want to rush but I always knew... I always knew I wanted to spend my whole life with you” you said.
“Hey we will okay? We’ll spend the rest of our lives together. I can imagine our whole future” Kara said, knowing it wasn’t true.
“Tell me about it... about our future” you said, struggling to breathe.
“Well we moved in together, in the outskirts of National City because we wanted to stay here but we wanted a big house, a little outside of the city. And we have a dog who is so sweet and never leaves your side.”
“Keep going” you said weakly, the scenario bringing you comfort.
“Well, we have 3 kids... 2 girls and a boy. I wanted to stop at 2 but you were dead set on having a boy, but Rao am I glad we did. You’re so great with them, they love you so so much” Kara said, and noticed your breathing was slowing, and time was running out.
“I mean I would always freak out when something went wrong but wow you were always so calm with them and handled every issue with such grace. You made it look so easy. And we’re just so happy, and we’re so in love” Kara finished and looked at you. Even when you were dying, you looked so beautiful to her.
“I love you Kar-” you said as you took your last breath. Kara took a moment and then closed your eyes and cried into you. She cried and cried until Alex and the other agents showed up. Kara didn’t even notice they were there until Alex put a hand on her shoulder. When Kara looked at Alex, she looked broken. Alex brought her into a hug where she cried some more. She didn’t know how she would ever get through this, or even if she would.
“It’s time to go Kar” Alex said softly after a while.
Kara nodded and turned to you and stared at your lifeless body. She planted a kiss on your forehead, holding so tightly onto the fake future she told you about... the future that she longed for.
“Goodbye Y/N. I love you, forever”

TW: Sorry, I’m in a mood. Talk of Suicide. Abuse of prescription medication. Underage drinking. Hints at abuse
It was quiet here in the bones of the old house. Cold. Drafty. Wildlife feasted on the general decomposition of trim. Faded tile and decaying drywall dangling at odd angles. Bricks lay uprooted by greenery. Furniture slowly losing its form was arranged haphazardly throughout the house. Winn could see her breath hang in the air, curl in a tight spiral before dispersing into the night. A single electric lantern kept watch beside a nest of her own making: a bedding of dried leaves, her favorite crochet blanket, and a little radio faintly playing an upbeat tune.
Oh, and a bottle of whiskey and every fucking antidepressant and mood stabilizer those bastards had ever prescribed for her.
Playing eenie meenie miney mo, she uncapped a half-empty bottle of citalopram and popped all of it into her mouth. She took a swig, throwing her head back to ensure she swallowed. Looking around she supposed it was a fitting epitaph. Her end would be here, in this broken mausoleum, a showcase to humankind’s fundamental need to create something sublime but ultimately fail in its maintenance. To conceive something beautiful but become indifferent and bored with it, letting it fall into ruin. Wreckage that is only redeemable by nature itself. It would be nice, she thought, if something productive, beautiful even, grew out of her decaying life too.
Then maybe everything would have been worth it.
Absently plucking at weeds poking through fractured flooring, she huddled over on herself waiting for the drugs to take effect. Her stomach turned as she tried not to think. Tried not to repeat the same question over and over in her head.
How many times did she have to lose everything to take the hint? How many times did she have to hit rock bottom before her knees buckled and her legs snapped trying to stick the landing as she broke herself to please everyone?
For her, the answer was four. Not that that matters now. Cause now it was too late. Now she finally gets it. Now she gets why her Mami was so unhappy. Why Miami's boyfriend, Leonard, wasn’t happy. Why her doctors weren’t happy. Her teachers, her friends. Everyone. Why the world was unhappy. Maybe her death would make them happy again.
A breeze picked up, whistling through the gaps. It sounded like someone was whistling and walking around the house, wooden planks creaking. That should have terrified her but her mind was starting to feel a pleasant, sleepy haziness. She took another half-empty bottle by her feet and downed the contents, choking on her own saliva and the aftertaste of the alcohol.
Thoughts continued to rush in, unabated, like a broken dam. Each empty bottle held its own story, mostly of the times Leonard lugged her to another shrink, to “fix” her while her mother sat in the car, finding solace in a glass bottle wrapped in a brown paper bag. Finishing it before Winn’s hour-long appointments were over.
None of it ever seemed to satisfy Leonard. Not that he ever waited for her to finish her prescription before shoving the next pill down her throat, deeming the previous one ineffective when she would have another episode. Promising that the next drug would be it. That the next one would work. And she believed him. Each and every time, she believed. Whatever was wrong with her, these next pills would fix it.
But they never did.
Soon it turned into, why can’t you be like x? Why can’t you just do x? Your attitude is why x is happening to you. Do you even want to get better from x?
She could put anything in for x. The equation stayed the same, with one common denominator:
Her.
Winn.
She was the shared numerator whose value was always zero. And anything that is multiplied by zero forever equals zero.
Another half-filled bottle, another swig. Her heart started slowing down. So did her breathing, face becoming flush. She was having a hard time keeping her eyes open.
Another floorboard whined under stress, and a voice followed it. “That is an especially painful way to die, dear one,” someone called out to her. “Overdoses can be messy affairs when attempted through the unpredictability of drugs.”
A surge of fright course through her. Who was that? A ghost? Leonard? She didn’t know. They remained out of sight. She looked up through the smog of her mind, unaware that anyone had breached the house grounds. She curled more into her nest.
It couldn’t be Leonard. At least she didn’t think it was him. It was hard to tell right now. It didn’t sound like him. Her chest wouldn’t stop stinging, though, at war with medical sedation and her adrenaline. Trying to play it cool, she schooled her tone, wishing she had a taser on her. Cursing how stupid she was to come here without one. “You lost?” she called, scrubbing her face with the bottom of her palm, her coordination clumsy. “The main road‘s that way.” She pointed, not exactly knowing if that was the right direction anymore. “House gone to be destroyed in the morning. The bots won’t check to see if anyone’s in here before they start smashing.”
“That’s why you’re here, isn’t it?” he asked, coming into view. It sounded more like a statement. “Because you don’t think anyone will find you before they start demolition.”
She squinted at the man in an impeccable blue suit, refusing to answer. Definitely not Leonard. But…
“Mmm, I know you,” she said scrunching her eyes, fighting to place the face, fighting to find a name. Yes, she has seen him somewhere, but her mind could only remember one location in which she encountered him. A place shrouded in metaphoric perception and youthful symbolism. A place that is both romanticized and villainized oftentimes in the same breath. A place she could only visit when she closed her eyes at night and slipped from this reality to another.
“The man of my dreams. How—?” She swallowed, thoughts tripping over themselves. Her speech started to slur. He squatted in front of her, full weight on the balls of his expensive shoes, keeping his immaculate attire away from the dirt of the house. He moved gracefully, and though his smile looked concerned it was still every bit disarming.
“Uhh, I mean man from my dreams,” she stammered. “Uh, how is this?” It dawned on her. The part of her mind that was still intact. “Hallucinations. I’m dreaming. I-I’ve passed out.”
“You have not,” he said, making no move towards her. Simply staring her down with hooded eyes. “At least, not yet. And though I am, how did you put it, ‘the man of your dreams, I’m not some figment of your imagination, Winnifred. I am quite real, and I’m here.”
Winn barked a laugh, “Oh my gods, for real? ‘I’m here’?” she mocked. “Everything’s good, I’m here.” She grabbed the bottle, his eyes following, and took a sip. “Fo sure, like that would really matter now. You can get your damn hair swirl outta my face with that.”
She made a move for his hair, uncoordinated and choppy, catching herself when she leaned forward too much and fell onto her hands. It took a while. He remained still for her, attentive, but unmoved. She was able to ruffle his dark blond hair out of its slicked-back position, wrapping a finger around the bit of lock that fell over his brow without falling again.
Their eyes met.
Realizing what she was doing she yanked her hand back as if burned. Confusion swept through her. He raised an eyebrow, the corners of his mouth twitching. “Convinced?”
“I can touch people in my dreams, it’s just...” It’s never felt so real.
She reached for another prescription. Clearly, she was delusional. Clearly, this was a trick. She poured out the oval-shaped pill preparing to swallow it whole. It was quite possible that she was out cold, body slumped over like the furniture of this house. Quite possible she was unconscious and this was her mind’s last chance at providing her with a final comfort. A childhood sentential to keep watch as she fades away.
She tilted her head back, arm poised to sling the pills into her mouth.
The man moves.
He shifts to catch her wrist in a light but firm hold. The bottle slips out of her fingers, clatters to the floor, along with the pills, dropping between boards and out of reach. Winn curses.
“Don’t touch me,” she said pulling away easily. “You don’t know me like that.”
“Listen to me, Winnifred,” his voice held a command. “I have not moved heaven and earth—I have not rescheduled my life just to watch your throw away yours. I do know you. I’ve known you since you were four years old. I’ve visited your dreams since your first nightmare. I’ve watched over you the best I could from afar.
“When I said, I’m here now, it wasn’t meant to be crass or derisive. So many people have let you down in your life, I being the chief among them. But I am here now. Things will get better. Let me prove it.”
“That wasn’t real. And dreams isn’t knowing someone.”
He tilted his head. “I know that your father left you when you were six. I know that your mother has been bounding from boyfriend to boyfriend, looking for validation but never really finding it. Each suitor worse than the last. The current beau is a monster called Leonard.”
She gulped, running a hand over her face. Tucking a curl behind her ear. He watched, gaze overly familiar. Possessive without even touching her. Eyes extracting what he wanted. She imagined he didn't take no for an answer. She imagined he changed outcomes to fit his ambitions.
She felt unable to hide.
“I know what he’s been doing to you,” he said, voice changing.
“H-how?”
He let out a breath of air. “I know this because I’ve seen your dreams. I know you’ve been having a recurring one of Leonard assaulting you, and then ending your life. It may happen in different facets and different places, but the theme is resoundingly the same. You also have recurring dreams of your mother’s lifeless body lying on the side of the road while traffic rushes by. Sometimes hitting her, most of the time not.” He adjusted his cufflinks, before completely abandoning his position to sit on the grassy floor. “You’ve been having these particular dreams for a while. It is because you venture into Leonard’s dreams each night, before going to your mother’s. It’s not unusual for someone with your abilities since they are the closest people to you. You’re able to see what Leonard will do to you, whether he’s willing to admit to his own perverse desires or not. And you’re able to view your mother’s darkest fears. Of being abandoned by everyone.”
“You’ve always had a talent for dream wandering and precognitive dreams. You were once able to control your dreams, steer away from the nightmares with my help.”
“I can’t anymore. It’s too—” her voice cracked, and she was reminded of his face. His words. How Leonard taught her to hold her breath, to clamp down on her tongue. He taught her to hide truths, and keep secrets. To bear the scars without screaming, and conceal them. He showed her to shut up while her dignity—her pride—would rage beneath the surface while he was near.
“Those dreams are just dreams. That’s what Leonard said.” She needed to adhere to that. If anything could appease Leonard it was that. And she needed to appease him. Her mother was too weak, too afraid for her own life to safeguard Winn’s, and yet too desperate for a man to head out on her own. Besides if they ran, Leonard would eventually find them. He always found them.
“Trust me, like you once did,” his voice was soft, yet it cut through her racing thoughts like a well-crafted blade. He held his hand out to her, the gesture speaking of promise and nostalgia. Reminding her of how of a strong presence he was in her dreams. The one bit of sanity in an array of insane characters and worlds. He slew monsters, clothed her when she was naked, stopped her before she'd slip into a free fall. Laughed with her. Held her when she cried. He was kind to her. Above all, he showed her tenderness when no one else did.
“Remember me,” he went on, “as I was. I can be that for you again, in this waking land. You can still choose to come with me and leave all of this sorrow behind. Or,” he withdrew his hand when she turned her head, refusing to take it. “You can choose not to, and I will sit with you until you lose consciousness. Then I will carry you to the nearest medical facility where they will pump your stomach, and a physiologist will evaluate you. One not worth the paper their license was printed on. They will, in all likelihood, lock you away in a psychiatric ward, to be forever treated as a pariah. It’s your choice.”
Her eyes jerked back towards him. He said it like a threat. Winn supposed she was running out of time. She wanted to trust him, but… she hadn’t seen him in her dreams for two years. He said that he’s there for her, but he hadn’t been. And she’d learned that being alone felt safer.
She pulled back, making a move to stand. Maybe he’ll let her go. Maybe he wasn’t even here. His fingers didn’t act like a vice when he grabbed her earlier. She easily slipped him then. Maybe she can do it again. Maybe—
Her legs buckled under her, nerve endings on fire. She vomited, hopefully not on him. Gods, not on him. Her vision blurred, darkness edging the rim. She felt hands on her but wasn’t for sure. She was dazed. She needed to resist. Or maybe she needed to give in. She couldn’t open her eyes though was mildly aware of the feeling of being lifted, of a certain weightlessness.
Winn was heaved against a strong chest. Instinctively, her hands went up, fingers curling and uncurling around dream man’s lapel in a display of rebellion or surrender, she wasn’t sure. She wanted defiance but it was so easy to just give in. Darkness claimed her.
Like it mattered because he wasn’t really there. Right?

You shook as you stayed in the corner of your cell. They had just done more experiments on you. You lost track of how long you’ve been there. You were sent on a solo mission and you ended up getting captured by Hydra.
From what you could understand they wanted you to become their next super soldier. They’ve also tried to mind control you but so far it hasn’t worked so they’ve just been doing the experiments.
While you were in the corner you couldn’t help but think back before you were sent on the mission. A few tears fell as you thought about Natasha.
xxxxx
Natasha wrapped her arms around your waist from behind, you smiled and leaned into her embrace. She placed kisses on your shoulder before kissing your neck.
“Nat if you keep doing that then I’ll never get ready.” You bit your lip as you blushed.
You were being sent on a solo mission later that day and Natasha didn’t want you to go. She knew you had to but she also wished someone was going with you in case something happened. Natasha didn’t have a good feeling about this mission.
“I just wish I was going with you or at least one of the others...” Natasha nuzzled her face into your neck.
You tapped her arm to get her attention so she could remove her face from your neck. Once she did you turned around in her arms, you wrapped your arms around her neck.
“Baby it’s just going to be an in and out mission, I’ll be back before you know it.” You leaned in, capturing her lips in a kiss.
Natasha pulled you closer, deepening the kiss. She hoped that the feeling she was having was wrong, that this mission was going to be like the other solo missions you’ve been on since you’ve been there. That you would come back to her.
xxxxx
“I knew this mission was a trap!.” Natasha yelled. When she found out that Hydra had captured you her heart dropped into her stomach.
Clint placed a hand on her shoulder. “Do worry Tasha, we’ll find her.”
Tony immediately got to work on trying to find out where Hydra was keeping you. Everyone was doing something to try and help find you. They were so busy that they didn’t noticed a portal opened up and a few people walked out.
Kara and Alex looked around. This was where Winn said you had been since that day you went on that solo mission almost a year ago. Then Kara noticed your picture on a big screen, she poked Alex and motioned for her to look at the screen.
Steve was the first one to noticed them, he glared. “Who are you and how did you get in here?” This caught everyone’s attention as they stopped what they were doing. They were ready to fight if they needed to.
Tumblr media
“Who are we?” Kara glared at them. “Who are you and what have you done to our sister?!”
“Wait sister?” Natasha’s eyes widened. “You’re (Y/N)’s sisters?”
Kara and Alex nod. “We are. Now where is she?” Alex said. Natasha began to explain to them about what happened on your solo mission.
“Have you found anything about where she could be?” Alex asked, she was trying to stay calm, she knew Kara was trying to stay calm as well.
Tony sadly shook his head. “We haven’t yet but we’ll be able to find her soon.”
Winn moved from his spot from behind Kara. “Maybe I could help with trying to find her.”
“Sure.” Tony shrugged. “The more help the better. We’ll be able to find (Y/N) a lot faster that way.”
xxxxx
After the last experiment you found out that you were successfully given the super soldier serum. Now they were just trying to figure out a way to mind control you. There was no way you were going to let that happen.
You stood up from the bed in your cell and started walking around, you were trying to think of a way to get out of here and get back to the Avengers compound. Suddenly you heard alarms going off and you saw Hydra agents running past your cell.
Outside the Hydra base Kara flew above, she used her x-ray vision to try and find you while everyone was fighting off agents. It took her a few seconds but she was finally able to find you. “I found her!” She said through the comms.
You were about to break out of the cell when one of the Hydra agents come running in and stood in front of your cell. They glared at you. “They’re no way you’re getting out of here.”
They raised their gun and aimed it at you. Before anything could happen someone flew in and hit the agent, sending them flying into the wall.
Your eyes widened when you saw who that person was. “K-Kara?!”
Kara grabbed the cell bars and broke them. You ran out of the cell and hugged her. “Don’t worry we’re here. You’re safe now.” Kara hugged you back.
You tightened your arms around your sister, tears started to fall. “What are you doing here?”
“Winn was finally able to find out where you went so we came here but we found out what happened.” While the two of you were hugging Kara could tell you were a little bit stronger then the last time she saw you. “Wait did you get stronger?”
You pulled away from the hug, you rubbed the back of your neck. “About that I’ll explain later, the others are going to want to know what happened.”
Before Kara could say anything Natasha came running in. “(Y/N)!”
You smiled when you saw Natasha, you ran over to her and pulled her into your arms. Natasha cupped your face in her hands and pulled you into a passionate kiss.
xxxxx
Once you were back at the compound Bruce ran some test to make sure everything was okay. You told everyone about what Hydra had done to you. You could see the angry looks on everyone’s faces.
Before you knew it Kara and Alex were waiting for you to go back to National City with them. You looked down, Natasha placed a comforting hand on your lower back. She knew this wasn’t easy for you.
“What’s wrong (Y/N)?” Kara walked over to you, Alex was right behind her.
“I’m not returning to National City with you...” You looked up, tears already rolling down your cheeks. “I found the woman I love here and I have great friends, I can’t leave...”
Both Alex and Kara had tears rolling down their cheeks, they had a feeling you wouldn’t be going back with them. Alex rushed forward and pulled you into a tight hug, Kara soon joined in on the hug. The three of you crying.
“I’ll still visit and you guys could come visit too.” You said.
Your sisters pulled away from the hug. “You better come visit us.” Alex said.
“I will, I promise.” You smiled.
“You have a lot of game nights to make up for, you better not be late.” Kara playfully points a finger at you.
You chuckled. “I wouldn’t miss it.”
Your sisters look over at Natasha. They didn’t need to say anything for Natasha to understand what they were going to tell her. She smiles and nods which caused Alex and Kara to smile at her.
With one last hug you watched your sisters go through the portal back to National City. You felt arms wrap around you, you looked over at Natasha to find her already looking at you. She gives you a loving smile before kissing your temple.
You were going to miss seeing your sisters everyday but you were right where you were meant to be.

part two | wattpad | masterlist
Tumblr media
I followed Alex out of the lift and into the open space that was the DEO. I looked around, trying to spot any differences compared to the last time I saw it three months ago, but everything pretty much looked the same. Well, except for one major difference...
"I still can't believe you're the new director," I said with disbelief, smiling at Alex.
Alex chuckled as she led me towards the control panel. "Well, you better believe it. I'm your boss now."
I laughed, shaking my head. "That's definitely going to take some getting used to."
As we approached the control panel, a handful of agents stopped by to welcome me back. It was lovely seeing everyone again, especially since I kind of left impulsively and without saying goodbye. I'd apparently missed quite a bit which everybody was happy to catch me up with at a later date. It was almost like I'd never left though, since everybody treated me the same.
"Brainy, I'd like you to meet Agent Y/L/N," Alex introduced when we reached the control panel in front of all the screens.
I recognised Brainy from a few months ago, back when Mon-El and Imra were here. I didn't know him very well, but I recalled him taking Winn's place as the latter joined Mon-El and Imra in the future.
"Ah, yes, Agent Y/N Y/L/N," Brainy spoke, standing up and putting out his hand. I shook it as he continued, "I believe we had the pleasure quite briefly many months ago. Alex told me of your return and I look forward to working with you. You were working at the desert facility, I believe?"
I smiled with amusement, finding Brainy's mannerisms quite different to what I remembered. Then again, he was from the future so what was I to expect?
"Yeah, I transferred for a while after some...," I swallowed awkwardly, "...personal issues. But I decided to come back here and continue my work."
Brainy smiled. "Well, if you shall require any help adjusting, I am happy to help, though I, myself, am also still in the adjustment period."
"It took him a while to stop getting on my nerves, but we're getting there," Alex inputted, and her expression suggested there was some backstory I would definitely follow up on later.
I nodded with amusing. "Well, thanks, Brainy. I may take you up on that."
Brainy gave a final nod before returning to his seat. Alex led me away before continuing to show me around. As we headed up to the balcony, I gave her a teasing smile.
"It's literally the same as I left it," I said knowingly. "Is this tour really necessary?"
Alex suppressed a smile. "I know, I know. I guess I just needed the excuse to talk to you about some things."
I breathed out, my smile fading as we stopped at the balcony. "Why do I have a strong feeling I know what these 'things' are?"
Alex looked to me with pitiful eyes. "Have you spoken to her yet?"
I pursed my lips, glancing out ahead as I tried to collect my thoughts. I knew Alex would bring this up – it was inevitable. She – her sister and my ex, Kara – was the reason I left in the first place. Despite anticipating our reunion, I struggled to follow through with a planned approach.
"I haven't seen her, let alone spoken to her," I admitted. "I know what I want to say, but it's whether or not I'll actually say it, y'know?"
Alex nodded and rested a hand on my shoulder, gently squeezing it. I appreciated the Danvers sister and her support. I guess I always thought she'd hate me for leaving her sister, though technically Kara broke up with me, but she was fine with me and still treated me the same.
"I'm sorry I didn't speak much whilst I was away," I said, meeting Alex's eyes. "I didn't really want to face anything or anyone from here. I was hurting and... well, I...."
"It's okay," she cut me off, sensing my uncertainty. "You're back now and we can just pick up where we left off. I know you and my sister have your past, but we're still good, right?"
I cracked a smiled. "Right."
She nodded supportively and I instantly saw Alex in a slightly different light. All of the qualities she had were definitely leader material – I could see why J'onn chose her to be the new director.
"So, er, how is everyone here?" I asked, a little hesitant.
Alex stared out from the balcony, but she had a knowing expression on her face. "Everyone is good... they've got their act together. They're balancing everything well."
I pursed my lips, breathing out through my nose. So she was doing good. That was nice to hear. I guess after everything, that was all I wanted. As much as I acted like I hated Kara, I only wanted her to be happy. Even if that meant it didn't include me.
"C'mon," Alex said, pulling me from my thoughts. "I'll catch you up on what's new."
I nodded and accepted the distraction, following Alex back downstairs. Only, when we reached Brainy, I recognised the red-caped, blonde-headed individual stood by him.
"You okay?" Alex asked, raising an eyebrow and holding back for a moment.
I recovered from my my momentary shock, swallowing hard before nodding. "Yeah, all good."
Alex seemed reluctant, but nodded and led me to Brainy and Supergirl. The latter turned around at Alex's greeting, her familiar blue eyes flickering over to me with surprise.
She looked the same with her blonde curls falling down her shoulders, just above her Supergirl emblem. Her posture was strong like the hero she was, her muscles defined in her suit and her skin flawless from any human blemish. Her eyes were widened, the same eyes that had taunted me in the first month of my abrupt leave. I hated that it was the first time I'd seen her since she broke up with me and all I could think was how beautiful she remained.
"So, Y/N is back," Alex said quite simply, her eyes looking between Kara and I studiously.
I took a deep breath before saying, "Hey, Kara."
She recovered from her surprise as she stumbled out a sentence. "Hey... you're back... you look well."
I nodded and avoided her eyes. "You, too."
It was silent for a moment and an awkward tension hung in the air. I didn't expect anything less though.
"I feel like I am now aware of what the personal reason for Y/N's departure was," Brainy suddenly said, blinking.
Kara and I stayed quiet, though I was sure my cheeks were heating up a little.
"Brainy, remember that thing we talked about the other day? Where you should think before you speak? Yeah, this applies," Alex rambled, before dragging Brainy away without another word.
More silence stretched out between Kara and I, and I suddenly forgot everything I'd practiced saying in this moment.
"I heard you transferred to the desert facility," Kara spoke up, her voice nervous.
I looked at her, noticing her bright eyes staring right at me. "Yeah. I decided to come back though. I– it was time I came back."
Kara nodded, her jaw locking as she kept quiet. I took this as my chance to speak more.
"Look, Kara, I'm back and I don't want this to be like this," I said truthfully. "I know we have a past, a recent one at that, but we both have jobs to do. I don't want what happened between us to affect our professional relationship."
Kara opened her mouth, as if to speak, but thought better of it.
"I just want to focus on doing the best I can here," I continued. "I'm sure it's the same with you. So, I think we can put aside our history for the sake of our work. I know that..." I released a shaky breath, unaware of how tense I felt. "... I know that's all I can handle right now."
Kara nodded, swallowing as she looked down. "I get it. That's... that's fine with me."
I nodded. "Good."
She looked up again, her expression softening. "In a professional way, it's good to have you back."
I chose not to respond, instead clenching my jaw as I walked away, my shoulders tensed until I was out of Kara's sight. I let myself relax finally, taking deep breaths as I tried to compose myself. I promised myself that I wouldn't let her affect me like this and yet here I was, feeling my heart pounding in my chest just from being within her proximity after so long.
I'd kept up to date with most issues concerning the DEO, specifically at this facility rather than the desert one, but there were a few things that popped up unexpectedly. For example, this Children of Liberty group.
We didn't know much about them other than the fact that they despised aliens and wanted them gone, even if that meant through violent means. It was J'onn who'd alerted us of their presence and Alex thought it would be best that we did some of our own scoping around to see what we could find out.
So, that's where I found myself right now, blending in with the public as I discreetly followed two 'children' of Liberty. J'onn had found a lead thankfully, so it was my job to see what I could find out. No interference except listening in with the microphone I was wearing. Nothing too difficult.
"Are they... buying hot dogs?" I heard Brainy ask through my earpiece. I was wearing a hat with a tiny webcam in it, so Alex and the others could see what I could back at the DEO.
"Bad guys gotta eat, too," I joked, continuing to pretend to read the newspaper as I occasionally glanced up at the two men who were indeed buying hot dogs from a vendor.
"Just keep doing what you're doing, Y/N," Alex said calmly. "They were talking about some meeting tonight. We just need to know where."
I nodded slightly, before continuing to read the paper whilst hearing the Children of Liberty's conversation through my other earpiece.
"...just pay the dude," one of them was saying to his friend. "I'll spot you next time."
His friend groaned before paying the man. "You better, man. We don't get paid enough for this."
"It's a hot dog, cheapskate."
I rolled my eyes and continued watching the two men as they continued their walk down the street. I set my paper down and trailed behind them, being sure to keep my distance.
"Wait... are they armed? Y/N, do you see a gun on their hip or is that something else?" Alex asked with concern.
I narrowed my eyes, trying to get a better look without raising suspicion. I couldn't see because of the man's jacket, and right when I planned to move forward, hoping to follow as they rounded in between two buildings, I was stopped by a stranger.
"Well, hello there, beautiful," this random sleazy-looking man greeted, his eyes looking me up and down. "Where you off to?"
"Y/N, we can't lose them," Alex reminded me in my earpiece.
I groaned internally before plastering a fake smile on my lips. I glanced behind the large man, seeing the two men round the corner, out of sight, before meeting this predator's eyes.
"Excuse me, sir, but I'm kind of in a rush," I said politely, stepping around him, but I felt his sweaty hand grab my arm.
On instinct, I yanked myself away from him and pushed him back, glaring with disgust. He didn't seem the least bit fazed as he smirked.
"So you've got a little kick to you," he noted, licking his lips, "I like. Look, I just wanted to get a drink with you. The bar down the street. What d'you say?"
"Agent Y/L/N, we're losing them," Brainy said, slightly panicked.
I didn't want to raise any suspicion, so I refrained from kicking this harasser's arse. Instead, I gritted my teeth, saying, "I'd rather not. Now if you'll excuse me."
I turned around and tried to speed-walk away, hoping to reach that damn alleyway, but I felt the man grab me again, his grip tighter as he spun me around and stepped forward, towering over me a little.
"Listen, bitch, I tried being polite, but you're not leaving me much choice here," he growled lowly, his eyes darkening with each word.
I tried to pull free, but he was stronger than he looked. I could have easily slipped from his grasp by dislocating his arm, and punching him in the face, or even giving him a good kick to the crotch, but that would definitely cause a scene.
"Y/N, are you okay?" Alex's voice came back. "Look, we've sent in Kara to help. She'll be there any–"
"No!" I shouted aloud, forgetting the concept of subtle.
"What?" the man asked, furrowing his brows. "What are you talking about?"
"Stella, there you are! I was looking everywhere for you!" Kara's voice sounded around us, and she approached me as herself rather than Supergirl. Her eyes flickered between the man and I as she asked, "Is everything okay here?"
The man's grip loosened and he eventually stepped away. "Sorry, miss. I must have had the wrong person."
He began to walk away, leaving Kara and I alone. I breathed out, before glaring at Kara.
"Why are you here? I had that covered," I said quietly but aggressively.
I began walking forward, following the last direction I saw the Children of Liberty head.
"You're welcome," Kara replied sarcastically, falling into step with me.
"I didn't ask for your help," I said with annoyance, before adding, "Thanks a lot, Alex."
"We couldn't risk losing them because of some harasser," Alex defended through the earpiece. "It worked, didn't it?"
"Alex is right," Kara said, trying to get me to look at her. "Plus, that guy could've hurt you."
"Yeah, I'm sure he would've made a dent on a fully-trained DEO agent," I snapped, rolling my eyes.
"That's not what I meant," Kara amended, making me stop abruptly.
I faced her, raising my eyebrows. "Then what did you mean, Kara? Because I didn't need you helping me back then. I can do my job." I looked around before whispering, "And Supergirl doesn't need to keep saving the day. Especially when nobody asked for it."
She pushed her glasses up the ridge of her nose as she pursed her lips, looking like she had more to say. It pissed me off because what the hell was she doing? This wasn't difficult. And I didn't need her. I learnt that the hard way. She'd made that clear.
I sighed and continued my walk, finally rounding that damn corner into the alleyway. I kept walking, taking it slow as I saw there was nobody there. I rounded another corner into an open space behind the building, almost walking into a small meet-up between a few of what I presumed were the Children of Liberty. Thankfully, I skidded to a halt and pressed my back to the wall before they could notice me.
I heard some sentences as the mic focused on picking up their conversation, but the sound of Kara speaking grabbed my attention.
"Y/N, look, I'm sorry for interrupting like that. I know you can– woah!"
For a superhero, Kara wasn't very subtle as she almost walked around the corner with her big mouth. Thankfully, I placed my hand over her mouth to silence her and pulled her back to me, holding her close to me and out of sight from our target.
I moved my hand from her mouth as quietly as I could, pressing my forefinger to my lips, motioning for her to stay quiet.
"Wait, did you guys hear something?" one of them said, and I practically held my breath to stay quiet.
The men went quiet as they waited for something, probably a sound to give away our position. After a moment, they gave up and began speaking again.
"Forget that, just listen up," a new voice continued to speak. "We're gonna meet tonight. Gather everyone that you know. It's the start of something new..."
As he went on and on about this impact they would have, I breathed out a small sigh of relief. I titled my head back to Kara, realising how close we actually were. My hand was still wrapped around her waist, holding her close from before. I could make out the golden flecks in her blue irises as she stared right through me, an absence of expression on her face.
I grew warm with embarrassment and also felt my heart clench up at the feeling of her so close to me. I loosened my grip on her waist, using my other hand to gently rest on her chest to push her back a step. She seemed distracted, but came back to reality when I pushed her.
"The community centre, we got it!" Brainy's voice interrupted whatever was happening, and I realised I'd completely ignored the conversation around the corner. It was a good job Brainy and Alex had been listening.
"You guys can head back now," Alex said through the earpiece. "Just be careful."
I hesitated, trying to pull my gaze away from Kara, before doing so and nodding. "Thanks, Alex."
I breathed out slowly, avoiding Kara's eyes, and carefully looked around the wall, seeing the men slowly walking the other way. I motioned for Kara to follow me as we headed out of the alleyway, back onto the main street.
I took off my hat and ran my hands through my hair, glad that was over.
"Do you, er, need a lift back to the DEO?" Kara asked nervously.
I cleared my throat, shaking my head. "I'm still scared of–"
"Scared of heights, right, yeah, sorry," she mumbled. "I'll see you back there then..."
I nodded and she awkwardly walked away, probably to find a quiet place to fly off from. I removed my earpieces and pocketed them before breathing out heavily, not realising how wound up I felt.
What just happened?
"Stop it!" I laughed, attempting to push Kara away, but clearly she was the stronger of us
both as she continued to kiss me all over my face and neck.
"You're just too beautiful," she said knowingly, flashing me her amazing smile. "If we don't get out of here, I don't think I can control what'll happen next."
With a little more force, I managed to push her back by her chest, grinning. "You better control yourself, Danvers. We're in a public place."
Kara chuckled melodiously, grabbing my hand and dragging me away from the front of the restaurant we'd just dined at and into the alleyway beside it. When I realised why she'd taken us here, I let go of her hand and gave her the best stern look I could at that moment.

@peggystormborn I don't think that it has to be "she doesn't have to choose" just because that seems the most natural to people. I think they could have made for example Alex or humanity uber alles work.
I definitely don’t think that it has be Argo AND earth, I think the groundwork was already there with Kara not really feeling at home on Argo either when she doesn’t enjoy the dinner with her childhood friend. The ending could easily have been that she decides she doesn’t need Argo because “Argo was in her heart the entire time!”. Stories whether one chooses one thing can work. Think of all the city life versus small town life that do end with the person deciding the city sucks, they are going to settle down (something that often gets criticized rather justly, but still, there is a long tradition of those stories). Or a long variety of romances that are “I got blinded by X, but then I suddenly realize I actually love Y”. One could have done that about Argo, “I thought Argo was going to fix my identity woes, but it was actually just a smoke screen, I was just running away from my problems”.
I know some of the more anti-Karamel faction always wanted her to reject Argo (even independent of Karamel going there) because Alura is a bad and cruel person who sent Kara away and put Astra in jail.
It’s strange. Even though we know they had full control of the season finale, I don’t think they full broke with the themes and values of season 3. Turning Alura and (or) Mon-El evil would have given Kara a reason to reject them and never mention them again. And it wouldn’t have necessarily have been that much of a stretch Like they could have written as Alura being indifferent to human collatoral damage and Kara just can’t abide by that.
Or it would have required a scene a the most to write “As Imra shows to help save the world, Mon-El’s face lights up and he decides that it was Imra all along, her coming back to help them out settles it for him”.
Heck, they could have had Alex being the one in danger in the finale rather than Alura and Mon-El. They could have written this as Kara’s big realization that earth and humanity is all she wants.
Instead, Mon-El still breaks up with Imra, Karamel still are shown as at least very friendly on Kara’s side, Alura is still overall an nice and helpful person who is sad about the things she did in the past (like with Astra), them being in danger as Kara turns back time kind of strengthens their importance even, just as Kara bids goodbye to both of them (only for the goodbye to Winn to take up more of the episode dramatically than either of those goodbyes? Talk about weird messaging?).
It makes me wonder whether the plan orignially was that Mon-El was to return and it was Chris who said no because he really disliked the story they were planning for Mon-El? And they were so angry at him that they refused to even mention Mon-El for the longest time? Winn’s goodbye being more emotional would kind of fit better if originally Jeremy was the only one they knew was leaving and originally there would have been more to Alura and Mon-El’s stories (with maybe Alura being sort of collatoral damage to them not finding an agreement with Chris).
Or they decided this wasn’t the direction they wanted to go into but they didn’t want to fully break with the themes of season 3, so they were still reasonably respectful to Mon-El and Alura. It just seems if they just wanted to be rid of the story and for people to stop asking questions, there were other ways to close it more completely, even if they didn’t want to go as far as either Mon-El being evil/Kara realizing he really was a jerk and she never loved him, or Mon-El returning to Imra, Like Mon-El giving back the necklace would have felt pretty final or if not him realizing that he does love Imra, at least have his words about the future stress that they are his family and home, instead his words are all about duty (”I swore to protect”).
It makes me wonder why they cut the scene between Kara and Alura. Whether it was just for time, or because they didn’t want Kara to spell out how she felt during the greenhouse scene or because Karamel fans as well as all other shippers would have taken Alura’s words “Not every love story is simple, but in time the truth always reveals itself” to be an encouragement to keep waiting.
In the end, what I’m trying to say is, you are right, Kara’s identity juggling was an important theme of season 3 and of Karamel in season 3, but as you say yourself, the writers also seemed to drop a lot of stories from season 3 very unceremoniously and essentially closed them with the season 3 finale. So just because season 3 did have these theme that is no insurance that season 6 will continue on this or pick it up again. Though it is rather striking how many season 3 elements and callbacks episode 100 had. I think it is rather poignant how Mon-El’s coversation with Kara about Lena seems incredibly close to the season 3 conversation where he tells her not telling is a sacrifice (then again, since this is supposed to mostly be a Mon-El from exactly that time in history, it would also just make practical sense).
Though I will say, I don’t think that it is as straight and easy as Kara’s identity conflicts being resolved. It’s not as much that the writers dropped this particular theme or topic. They kept on using it, they spin it into a different direction. Kara’s identity as an alien on earth after all is another angle to Kara’s identity conflicts. As is when Alex gets her memory wiped. Even the conflict with Lena in season 5 is also a conflict about identity and of duty versus personal relationships. All of Red Daughter (even though that is another story that was handled badly) just screams about being an identity story (who are you really, who are you when X is removed). But it is possible that the writers consider this particular facet of Kara’s identity conflict (earth versus Argo) as closed. It happened. It is done. Kara chose earth and Alex (Kara Danvers is my favorite person, My whole life is here,  Balancing Kara and being a hero, that’s…That’s who I am,  everything that makes me me is here., This is my home.). It’s just surprising then that those scenes still play out so melancholy. The melancholy is even still there in the sister scene.
Tumblr media
This is the face Kara makes when she says that this is her home and that things will be fine. (really makes me wonder what the scene directions for this scene were for the actresses)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(especially if you compared that with the smiles and the loving expression in her eyes at the end of episode 100 which also ends with Kara reaffirming her dedication to Alex and J’onn
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s thematically a very similar scene, but it doesn’t play out with the kind of melancholy that is there in the end of season 3 scenes)
There is nothing wrong with Kara embracing earth over Argo and being a Kryptonian. But if she does, shouldn’t it be a joyous occasion? A happy, life affirming choice, for all the people she loves on earth?
Instead the fact that Kara looks melancholy when she makes this choice makes it feel unfinished, like a compromise. Just like Mon-El returning to the Legion doesn’t feel like a triumph, him going where he belongs and wants to be, it feels like a sacrifice he is making.
Those choices feel unhappy and that’s why they are bad. Not because choosing earth is inherently bad, not because choosing the Legion is bad.
If they wanted this choice to be something final and happy, there are so many ways that could have played out differently. It could have been, I don’t know, Alex, Lena and James being in danger in the final episode and Kara has to decide between saving them and going ahead with Mon-El and Alura. Maybe Mon-El and Alura encourage her to go, they will be fine, they have powers. Kara rushes off to save her human friends and later Alura tells Kara she can tell Kara’s heart is here with her friends and loved ones, encourages her to stay here and assures her that Alura and Argo are fine without her.
Instead it feels like the writers refused to break with the original themes of season 3, but then refused to follow them up (or at least this particular thread, even if Mon-El was gone, either by his choice or theirs, the needs of Argo versus the needs of earth could have been a theme they continue, but maybe they just felt it didn’t fit with the ideas they had for the next season).
The side effect of not breaking in a more final way, closing them in a more final way makes those threads feel really unfinished, like it is a choice “for now” but maybe there will be a better compromise in future, makes the shift away from those threads feel really harsh. The transition would have been smoother if Mon-El had at least gotten a few mentions and maybe Alura would have gotten a few small guest appearances, rather than Mon-El getting basically no mentions and Alura getting only mentions.

Couldn’t Bear It
Tumblr media
Summary: “Could I request a winn x reader? Hurt/sick reader and worried fluff winn to the rescue?” - @kilismaiden
Part: 1/1
Pairing: Winn Schott x reader
Warnings: angst
Word count: 1,099
A/N: I hope you like it! Enjoy!
~
He was terrified. Absolutely terrified as he sat in the med bay, eyes never leaving her practically lifeless body. She had been poisoned by some super powered villain, one he would rather forget entirely. Wasting his thoughts on the guy was pointless, especially when they were struggling to find a cure and time was running out. He shook his head. No, he couldn’t think like that. They had to save her, they just had to. Winn was petrified of what would happen if they couldn’t cure her, if he had to learn to live without her. He couldn’t bear such a burden, not after all life had already thrown at him. Not when she was the brightest thing in his life, when she was finally happy again.
Watching her was becoming so painful that he wasn’t sure he could handle it much longer, the ache in his heart much too damaging. Seeing the life slowly draining from her was probably the worst thing that he could imagine ever witnessing, the feeling of helplessness overwhelming him. He turned his gaze from her, teary eyes meeting those of Kara and losing control. Tears began to run down his cheeks one after another, sniffling as the ache in his chest grew stronger.
“I can’t lose her Kara, I just can’t.” Kara’s eyes were tearing up as she watched the scene before her, guilt eating away at her.
“I know. I’m so sorry Winn it’s all my fault. If I’d only stopped him sooner she never would have been taken.” Her head hung low as she wiped the tears from her cheeks before raising her eyes to meet his. “I’m gonna fix this, I promise.”
He watched her walk out and turned back to Y/N who lay deathly still upon the white sheets, his heart cracking under the weight. There had to be something he could do, he couldn’t sit here and watch her die and do nothing to stop it. Rising from his seat he kissed her hand before exiting the room and hunting down Alex.
“I have to do something, please.” He looked almost as bad as Y/N, eyes red and skin sickly pale. She scanned him over with concern and furrowed brow, sighing heavily at the mess of a man before her.
“I’m sorry Winn, but we’re already doing all we can to find that cure. I promise. But you need to take care of yourself, we can’t lose you too.” He snapped.
“What’s that supposed to mean?! She’s not dead! She isn’t dying Alex, not if I can help it. So tell me what to do.” He was almost seething at the claim, his teeth gritted and brow knit tightly. He felt like he was trying to reason with a brick wall and turned from her. Hours passed before he returned to his attempts, growing more desperate by the second.
Kara came up running, eyes frantic as she scanned the area before finally landing on her sister and Winn. She held in her hands a vial and Winn dared to hope that it would be the thing they needed to save Y/N. Alex rushed it into the med bay, quickly administering the dosage into Y/N’s vein. A breath of relief was released by every person in the room when the monitor produced a healthy lifeline. Winn broke down, tears pouring down his cheeks as he held onto your hand.
“Will she be awake soon?” His eyes were drowning with desperation as his gazed flittered between the two sisters. “What?”
“Winn, she’s very weak. She’ll need a few blood transfusions before I can safely guarantee her recovery.” He rolled up his sleeve, determination etched in his features and she shook her head softly. “You’ll need to eat something, drink lots of water, and then report back. And some rest wouldn’t hurt either.”
The moment Y/N’s eyes opened Winn was asleep, chest rising and falling slowly with his chin resting on his chest. She smiled softly at the man beside her, her heart swelling with joy in seeing their intertwined hands. When slipping away she had thought that they’re conversation had been a dream, a figment of her imagination. She waited a little longer before squeezing his hand weakly, her strength still not fully regained. His arms were quickly around her as his tears gradually began to soak her tank top and roll down her shoulder. She held him as tightly as she could, laughing softly.
“Miss me, Schott?” He pulled away and looked her dead in the eye, something within them not quite readable by Y/N, before leaning in. His soft lips were so gentle as they met hers, a warmth spreading through her chest as he held her. She was breathless when they parted.
“Don’t you ever scare me like that again, you hear me?” He looked at her as if she was this miracle in his arms, this unbelievable angel, whose existence was a gift. It made her insides turn to jelly, and if she were standing her knees would have buckled.
“Yes, Agent.” She pecked his lips and rested her forehead against his, so glad that she had survived and made it to this moment. A moment in which her heart was full.
“If I lost you, I was afraid I’d start to lose myself.” He was shaking, not fully recovered from nearly losing her and it broke her heart to see him that way.
“Well, you didn’t. Hey, look at me…” She led his eyes to hers, finger under his chin. “I’m right here, and I’m okay. You don’t have to think about that anymore. How about we get Alex to clear me and we spend the day watching Star Wars?”
“Pillow fort and all?”
“Pillow for and all.” He smiled softly, eyes softening as he placed a quick but tender kiss to her lips and sought out Alex once again.
She couldn’t imagine being in his position, having just admitted feelings only for the other to be poisoned and lying on their deathbed. It was a lot, and she knew she would have felt just as defeated and terrified of what came after. She too had been afraid to pass on, clinging to life with all her might. It wasn’t her time, she could feel it in her bones. She heard Winn’s voice every now and again while under and it gave her strength to fight.
Winn Schott was finally her partner and she’d be damned if death tried to claim her soul before she could be with him.

Betrayed In The Worst Way
Alex Danvers x Reader
Tumblr media
Requested By Anon-
Can you write one where you and Alex are together and you and Maggie are best friends and you introduce Alex and Maggie. They start to hangout which makes you happy because you wanted your girlfriend and best friend to get along but soon you become suspicious because of how they begin to act with each other like being flirty and touchy feely. How it ends is up to you.
(Y/N)- Your Name
Warnings- Cheating, Language
A/N- Not gonna lie Honest by bazzi came on while I started writing this and I may have cried a little bit. Also it hits kinda close to home.
P.S- Sorry if the ending kind of sucks. I wasn't really sure how to end it.
You and Alex had been together for 6 months when you had finally managed to get Maggie and her to meet. They got along from the beginning and that made you happy. You just hadn't been aware of how well they got along.
You felt your jaw clench and you looked away from the sight in front of you. You weren't usually a jealous person, but you felt in your gut that something wasn't right with the way Maggie and Alex acted with each other. Neither one of them were big on physical affections but lately they always seemed to be touching in someway. It bothered you but you tried not to think too much into it and you ignored your gut feeling. I mean surely they wouldn't be doing anything behind your back. Still you couldn't help but feel the jealousy rise every time Maggie was around Alex and the way Alex acted around her. You sighed and turned around walking away from them. You felt like a shitty person for the thoughts running through your mind. You were just reading into things a little too much. Alex loved you and Maggie knew how in love you were with Alex. You were so stuck inside your head that you ended up running into Kara.
"Shit. Sorry Kara I wasn't paying attention to where I was going." You apologized to the younger woman. She gave you a small smile and waved off your apology.
"No harm, no foul (Y/N)." She told you before walking away. You were about to continue walking in the opposite direction when you suddenly called out to Kara.
"Hey Kara." She turned around and looked at you.
"Can I ask you something and you give me an honest answer?" She tilted her head to the side and frowned slightly.
"Yea of course. What do you need?" She asked you as she walked back over to you. You bit your lip as you began second guessing yourself. Should you really ask Kara this? You felt your stomach churn and refused to make eye contact with her.
"Is..do you know...um what I mean is." You couldn't seem to get the words out and you could feel the tears beginning to build in your eyes. Kara began to become worried and she laid her hand on your arm.
"Hey it's ok (Y/N). Whatever it is you need to ask just ask. I promise I won't judge you or be upset." You looked up at her as you felt a tear escape from your eye and begin to trail down your cheek.
"What's going on between Alex and Maggie?" You managed to choke out. Her eyes went wide and her jaw dropped opened. If she had made that expression any other time it probably would have made you laugh but right now you were just trying to hold yourself together.
"What do you mean (Y/N)?"
"I mean it's just I don't know. They just seem to be really affectionate with each other. They are always touching in some way wether it just be a hand on an arm, an arm around a shoulder, or hugging. The way they just seem to kind of gravitate towards each other. Like fuck I know I shouldn't be thinking this because Alex is my girl and Maggie is my best friend but I just can't help but keep thinking about all the what ifs." You confessed to Kara as you broke down. All of your emotions becoming too much for you to be handle at the moment. Kara wrapped you in a hug as a frown pulled at her lips. Now that she thought about it, there did seem to be something going on between those two. She didn't say anything though. She just let you cry as she hugged you. Eventually you pulled away from her and wiped your face with the sleeve of your shirt.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have just unloaded all that on you. It wasn't fair." You mumbled as you looked at your shoes. You heard Kara sigh softly before she pulled you into another hug.
"Hey it's ok. You should really talk to Alex about the way you feel though. She will be able to help put your fears to bed better than I can." You nodded your head realizing that she was right. You just needed to talk to Alex about this and let her know that you know she would never do something like this to you. Especially not with Maggie. Your insecurities just took control of your thoughts sometimes. You gave Kara a small smile as you removed yourself from her.
"Yea you're right. Her and Maggie left to go to the Alien bar so I think I'll just head on down there. You wanna join me?" She gave you a smile and nodded her head.
"Sure it's been awhile since I went there. In fact how about we turn it into a super friends night? It's been so long since all of us have hung out." You felt your smile grow at the thought of hanging out with all of your friends for the first time in weeks.
"That would be awesome. It's been ages since I've seen all of them. I really only see you, Alex, and Maggie on a regular basis now." Kara laughed as she nodded in agreement.
"Yea same. I'll text the rest of the group and we can surprise Maggie and Alex with a get together." You could feel yourself getting excited as you thought about finally being able to spend time with all of your favorite people. After Kara texted everyone and told them you were all going to surprise Alex and Maggie at the bar with a get together the both of you headed out. You got there right as you saw Lucy, James, and Winn walk out of the door with shocked looks on their faces. You and Kara walked up to them and they immediately tried to stop you from entering the bar. You frowned at them not understanding what the problem was.
"Come on guys seriously what is the issue?" You asked them as began to feel your teeth grind together. They were really starting to piss you off. You just wanted to be able to go into the bar and hang out with your girlfriend and all of your friends. They all exchanged worried looks before they stepped to the side with a sigh.
"Just know that whatever happens we've got your back (Y/N)." Lucy told you. That only confused you more and you shook your head before heading inside the bar with the rest of them behind you. As soon as you saw Alex and Maggie though you understood why they had tried to stop you from entering. There was Alex in Maggies lap with their lips pressed together. You felt your heart shatter inside your chest. How could they do this to you? After everything you had done for both of them. You wanted to look away but you couldn't. You hadn't even realized you were crying until Lucy began to wipe away your tears.
"Come on (Y/N). Let's just leave." She tried to convince you but you shook your head no as you walked over to them. Kara, Lucy, Winn, and James followed behind you conceded for you and what you were going to do. You stopped right beside Alex and Maggie yet they didn't even realize you were there. You could feel your hands begin to clench into fists.
"How could you?" You finally spat out. They jumped apart like they had been burned.
"How could you Alex? How could you Maggie? I introduced you to each other because I wanted you to get along. Guess you got along better than what I had thought." You chuckled humorlessly.
"(Y/N).. I...this isn't...we didn't." Alex stumbled over her words trying to find the right ones to fix this situation.
"I hope you both rot in hell." You growled at them before you turned around and walked out of the bar. As soon as you got outside you slumped against the brick wall. You buried your face in your hands as you let the sobs escape. You felt someone wrap you in a hug and you moved your hands from your face and gripped onto whoever it was as tightly as you could. You buried your face in their neck as you continued to cry.
"I've got you (Y/N), I've got you." A voice you recognized as Lucy whispered as she picked you up. You heard the others walking towards you shortly afterwards. After that you aren't sure about what happened. You had cried so much you had exhausted your body.
When you woke up in the morning you reached out beside you in search of Alex before the events of the night before returned to you. You felt the tears begin again and you curled up into a ball hoping it would ease the pain. It didn't but you refused to move. Your whole world shattered all within the span of a couple of seconds. You still didn't understand how the two people you trusted the most could stab you in the back like that. Normally if something like this happened you would call Maggie but she was part of the reason why the reality you had once known was no more. Fuck why did Alex have to chose her of all people? You shook your head. You couldn't get stuck in all the why's and what ifs because if you did you would only cause yourself more harm. You eventually got out of bed. You just moved to living room and curled up on your sofa. You had your phone in your hand debating wether or not to read all the messages that Alex was sending you. You bit your lip as you opened her messages to show you had read them and then you turned off your phone. It felt like a dagger in your heart to not respond but right now she didn't deserve a response from you. No amount of explaining or excuses could justify her cheating. For the rest of the day whenever she sent a message you opened it to show her you had read but you never once texted her back. It killed you to do it but whatever pain it caused her couldn't even come close to comparing to the pain that spread from your chest to all over your body when you saw her and Maggie lip locked. The next few days you spent the same way. Slowly you began to go back to your normal routine and began to avoid Alex and Maggie whenever you could. You hadn't spoken to either one of them and you had even begun to erase them from your life. You deleted their contacts from your phone, erased them from all of your social media, and even changed your emergency contact information. There was just one thing you hadn't done yet. You had also put in a transfer form to transfer to the DEO location that Lucy was in charge of.
It had been about 3 months since you transferred and about 7 months since the incident, yet you were still receiving texts from Alex. Maggie had given up around the 4th month. You scrolled through all of the messages. It didn't hurt as bad as it used to whenever you remembered how you had been betrayed by 2 of the people you had trusted the most. You decided that maybe it was time to put the past behind you. You felt like your throat was clogged as you did the 2 things you never thought you would. You blocked Alex's number and went through your pictures, selecting all of them that contained her or Maggie. As you went to delete them you hesitated for a brief second before going through with it. You thought that you wouldn't ever be able to trust anyone the same way again but maybe a certain green eyed DEO director would be able to help you learn how to trust again. A small smile grew on your face as you looked over at Lucy. If anyone would be able to make you believe in love again you knew it would be her. You just needed a little more time to heal before you were ready to put your heart on the line again.

Can you do one where little Luthor and baby Danvers are best friends but then gets kidnapped and Kara Alex and Lena needs to find them! Thank you! Love your stories
warnings: violence, kidnapping, blood
this one is really long -ah, i’m sorry
Tumblr media
You woke up with a bag over your head and tied to a chair.
Panic set in immediately, but you took in what you could of your surroundings.
Someone’s forearm was touching yours, they were sitting beside you.
You could feel a bracelet on their wrist against your skin and immediately knew who it was, recognizing the uniqueness of the jewelry, “Lucie?” You whispered, trying to get your best friend’s attention.
“(Y/n/n)?” She responded quietly, seeming shocked.
“Yeah. Do you know where we are?” Your fingers tried to unknot the rope tied around your wrists.
“No idea, but my head hurts like a bitch,” She groaned softly.
“Mine too,” You grunted and moved your arms to the side to at least try to get her free if you couldn’t free yourself.
“Have you got a bag over your head too?” Lucie inquired as you tried getting her free.
“Yep, can’t see a thing,” Just then you remembered the watch Kara had given you and Lucie, and you mentally facepalmed for not remembering before.
“Lucie, press the button to call Ka - Supergirl,” You caught yourself. Lucie knew, obviously, but you didn’t know if anyone was listening to you guys or if you were being recorded, so you spoke very quietly.
“You’re a genius,” She smiled, even though you couldn’t see it and shuffled to reach your watch the best she could.
It took a good minute, but she was able to press it hard enough that you felt it click, before she closed it, not wanting to cause suspicious if your guys’ kidnappers saw it open.
Then you reached over and pressed the button on hers letting Kara know that the two of you were together.
“You know,” She began. “I’ve been kidnapped with a lot of people, but never with you.”
“We’ve both had our fare share of kidnappings, Lucie,” You chuckled.
The door opening in wherever you guys were made the two of you stop talking.
“Looks like you guys are finally up.” Hearing a voice you never wanted to hear again sent chills up your spine, and you knew damn well Lucie had the same reaction you did.
When Kara got both of the alerts seconds apart she knew you’d been kidnapped with Lucie.
She changed into her new Supergirl suit and flew to the DEO while dialing Lena’s number and quickly telling her, “Come to the DEO, (y/n) and Lucie are in trouble,” before hanging up and landing, looking for Alex as soon as her feet touched the ground.
“(Y/n/n) and Lucie both pressed their buttons, Al. They’re in trouble,” Kara was panting a bit from arriving so fast.
“I’ll find out where they are,” Alex’s face showed how panicked she was but she didn’t let that distract her as she pulled up a database on the computer that was tracking the few bracelets Kara had given out.
Brainy opted to help and ushered Alex out of the way.
Lena had arrived very quickly and ran up to Alex and Kara, “Where are they?”
“I’ve picked up a signal from their bracelets just give me three seconds.”
He zoomed in on where you and Lucie were being kept and immediately recognized it. “This is Lex’s old lab.”
“What?” Alex, Kara, and Lena all said in shock simultaneously.
“I said this -“
“No, I heard you,” Kara shook her head, clenching her fists and bouncing on her leg. “Alex, Alex, what do we do?”
“Stop talking,” Brainy quieted Kara, which was seemingly rude but no one cared when they realized why.
On the computer was an audio livestream coming from Lucie’s bracelet.
“A Super and a Luthor, once again,” Lex spoke with a smirk that no one needed to see to know it was there.
“Ever the poet, Lex,” You rolled your eyes. “You know I don’t have powers, why did you even kidnap us? We’re literally no use to you.”
“Are you really that stupid, (Y/n)? It’s -“ Lex was interrupted by you talking.
“Not as stupid as you are,” You said, earning a slap. The sound of it ringing through everyone’s ears as they listened.
“Lex!” Lucie spoke up, stopping him from doing anything else. “What is your problem?”
“The Danvers sisters are my problem,” Lex said with a sickeningly sweet tone for someone who had just slapped you.
“Okay, right, so I don’t mean to be annoying or anything, but they’re not dumb. They know you’re using us as a trap for them,” You deadpanned giving Lex a look, genuinely interested about what the hell he was planning on doing.
“I don’t intend to just hurt them, (Y/n). This is only to hurt you and your sisters. Lucie is just here to watch.”
“Lex, don’t,” Lucie’s voice broke.
“It’s fine,” You interrupted her. If this was going to happen, which you knew it was because your sisters were fast, but you knew they wouldn’t be here until after Lex had accomplished something, at least, so you were going to be an asshole to Lex. Maybe it would make you feel a little better.
“Bring it, Megamind,” You snickered, bracing yourself for the punch he was about to throw.
Brainy paused the live audio and looked up at everyone, “This is happening right now, if we hurry we can hopefully stop Lex before anything too bad happens to (Y/n).”
Lena stood beside Kara breathing heavily, in disbelief that Lex was back, slightly relieved that he didn’t intend on hurting Lucie but terrified fo you.
Alex and Kara were in tears, terrified about all the things that could happen to you.
J’onn and Winn had been listening but hadn’t started to engage in the conversation.
“Agent Danvers,” J’onn called, grabbing Alex’s attention. “I’ve called in a team for you and Supergirl. Go save our girls.”
Alex nodded and got her things but Lena took her arm, “I’m coming with you guys. I can help.”
Kara was about to protest but Alex interrupted her, “Lex doesn’t want to hurt her, Kara. She can go in while we’re fighting him and get them out. Go change, Lena.”
Lena left and returned five minutes later, and since everything was ready, everyone left, Kara flying off as fast as she could to reach you and Lucie.
Blood dripped down your chin, dripping onto your clothing. You looked like shit.
Lex had eventually grown bored of inflicting pain on you himself so he called in a few of his goons and separated you from Lucie so she was farther away and allowed them to have at you, punching, kicking, slapping, whatever they pleased.
It was getting really hard to breathe and see.
You were crying but made no noise, refusing to give Lex the satisfaction.
Lucie on the other hand was sobbing loudly, begging Lex to stop hurting you.
You stopped caring after a little bit, staying hopeful that your sisters would rescue you. Everything would be okay, and if you got lucky, you would pass out from the pain.
You winced when a gash opened on your forehead and kicked the man who’d given it to you right in the shin, knowing you were in deep shit anyways.
Luckily, he never had a chance to get back at you for it (although it was more: you getting back at him) because Supergirl came crashing through the glass windows and into the building.
Lex was smirking, and it was weird. He didn’t even care that he got caught. It was odd, but Kara didn’t care, punching him so hard that he flew up out of his chair.
His goons hurried over to Kara, preparing themselves to attempt to shoot her and punch her (stupidly).
Alex and her team busted through the doors right after and took out the goons as Lena snuck in and started to untie Lucie.
You caught Alex’s eye, and she immediately dropped her weapon, letting everyone else take care of Lex’s people (and himself) as she ran over to you with tears in her eyes.
“(Y/n/n),” Alex breathed, pullling a pocket knife out to cut off the ropes holding you down.
Lena and Lucie hurried over together and Alex finished getting you untied before picking you up in her arms, “You’re okay now. Lena and I are gonna fix you up.”
You nodded lazily against Alex’s chest, feeling yourself slip in and out of consciousness slowly.
When you, Alex, Lena, and Lucie made it outside, Alex set you down on the ground of the van, leaning you against the wall.
“Lucie, go get inside the car, please,” Lena said, kissing her on the forehead and watching her go inside the car right next to them.
Lucie was still watching everything they were doing, crying softly, feeling like it was all her fault.
She watched as J’onn pulled a bruised Lex out of the lab in handcuffs and as Kara flew over to you through the window. She opened it, to get a better look, her heart clenching as she saw you unconscious with blood dripping down your face and the amount of bruises you had developed.
Lex was loaded into a different DEO van (they’d taken three vehicles) and that one drove off with him and the team of agents.
J’onn joined Lucie in the car, giving her a tight hug, “She’s going to be okay. The Danvers siblings are very strong people.”
He drove away, leaving Alex, Kara, and Lena to take you back to the DEO. As much as he wanted to stay, he knew that Lucie was not in the mental condition to be able to see you hurt fo much longer and she needed to leave.
The girls had decided that Kara would drive the van. There wasn’t exactly much Alex and Lena could do in a moving vehicle to fix up your cuts and bruises anyways, but they did what they could, stopping the bleeding coming from your most recent gash in your forehead and stopping your nosebleed.
A few minutes from the DEO, you regained consciousness and held on to Alex tightly.
“Thank god you’re okay,” Alex exhaled, cradling you in her arms.
“Drink some water, honey,” Lena spoke, guiding a bottle of water to your lips.
You drank half of it at once, panting softly and tasting blood from your bottom lip as you did.
You offered Lena a lazy smile and settled yourself deeper into Alex’s lap, looking up at her tear-stained face, “Don’t cry, Al. I’m okay.”
“You are far from okay, bub,” Alex shook her head, her eyes watering once again, but you took her hand in your own and squeezed it tightly.
“I’m just fine. As long as I have you guys, I’m the strongest girl in the world, even stronger than Kara over there, but don’t tell her I said that,” Your antics made everyone chuckle softly, releasing a bit of the tension in the van.
“Where’s Lucie?” You asked, looking around as much as you could without causing yourself too much pain.
“She went with J’onn,” Lena said. “I could tell Lucie didn’t want to but it was tearing her up, seeing you like this. I’m really sorry -“
“No,” You shook your head, taking Lena’s hand with the hand not holding Alex’s. “Thank you. I would’ve done the same thing. She looked traumatized in there.”
Lena nodded and sighed softly as Kara pulled into the DEO and lept out of the car, picking you up in her arms and kissing the top of your head as she hurried inside.
Alex and Lena followed quickly in pursuit, right behind Kara as she took you to the med bay.
You saw a bunch of familiar faces as she carried you. Lucie’s first, to which you gave her a soft smile, reassuring her that you were totally fine. Then you saw J’onn, Winn, Brainy, Nia, James, even Maggie.
It seemed like they all knew what happened, since they were there, but they seemed shocked to see how battered you looked nonetheless.
Once you reached the med bay, you were placed on the bad and hooked up to a bunch of machines that you didn’t care enough to ask about.
You were able to remember to ask Lena and Alex not to give you anesthetics, knowing how embarrassing you got when you were under them.
Honestly, the pain couldn’t get worse so what did it matter.
Within the next hour, your cuts had been cleaned and stitched, including the one on your forehead to which Maggie said (she’d been in the room while Alex was stitching it for you), “Chicks dig scars, Danvers.”
Eventually someone had convinced Lucie to visit you.
She stood at the doorway, unsure of wether she should come in or not, “Hey.” You smiled.
She smiled back at you and went to sit down beside you, “I’m so glad you’re okay, (y/n/n).”
“Eh, I’m alive,” You smirked.
“You’ve got some nerve talking to Lex the way you did,” Lucie shook her head, slightly annoyed at how you aggravated him on purpose, knowing that you would only get hurt for it.
“Someone had to put him in his place. God, I wish everyone could’ve heard what I said to him,” You laughed, and it didn’t take anything other than hearing you laugh to get her to laugh.
“Well, I think you’re very brave,” Lucie chuckled, winking at you.
“Mhm,” You nodded. “And I’ve got a cool new scar to show for it too.”
“Oh, yeah. Definitely worth it,” She said sarcastically, making the two of you laugh.
“C’mere,” You said, making grabby hands, and scooting as much as you could so Lucie could lay beside you.
She carefully got in, knowing better than to argue with you and pulled you close to her.
“Hey, (y/n)?”
“What’s up?” You asked, drowsily.
“Thanks for being my best friend,” She smiled.
“Duh,” You chuckled. “I’d be so bored without you, dummy.”

Hear You Me || Layla & Ulfric
Location: Graham and Frankie’s Apartment Complex
Timing: The early hours of May 30th, 2020
Tagging: @big-bad-ulf and @laylacooke
Content: Family death mentions, Grief
Description: Ulfric breaks the news to Layla about Celeste’s death
The knock on the door at Frankie and Graham’s apartment was ominous. She had spent all night tossing and turning and for that reason, she had ended up on the floor in a small, little corner in Frankie’s bedroom. It’s also why she was the first one up and sitting on the couch with the tv turned down low as she stared into space thinking about the day before. The knock had been the thing to draw Layla’s attention back to reality, and without thinking, she automatically got up and walked to the door. Opening it up, she saw Ulfric standing there, but no Ariana. No Celeste, “Ulf…”
Ulfric almost groaned when Layla opened the door. Damned wolf hearing, she’d been so fast, he’d been hoping for a few moments longer of waiting on the doorstep figuring out what to say. Instead, he found himself stumped. “Layla… Hello. I’m sorry I asked you to leave on such short notice,” he apologized, realizing now how it could have easily been misconstrued as him tossing out after he’d expressly promised not to do that. It had seemed kinder at the time than just letting her sleep ignorantly surrounded by Celeste’s memories or telling her and having her stay up all night on the roof with him to wait for Ariana’s return, but now he was unsure if he’d done it for her so much as because he hadn’t been up to speaking the words aloud to anyone yet. He had promised Ari he’d take on this responsibility for her though, so he’d find a way to now. “Is there somewhere private we could go and talk?” He looked inside cautiously, unsure if her friends would still be around.
Layla had known something was going on, and yet, again, she had felt left out in the cold. It seemed as though she was always the last to find out things from the other wolves. As if she would never fully fit in with the pack, and while him asking her to leave hadn’t necessarily crossed her mind as him kicking her out, it did sit uneasily with her for the remainder of the night, especially after the lingering sound of the howl remained in her mind. Simon’s message to her hadn’t helped either. If Winn’s mother calling and Winn texting hadn’t been enough, whatever this was, had been thrown onto her shoulders too, and now, she was about to find out what was really going on, “They’re both still asleep, but we can leave. I can come back for my stuff later.” She didn’t want to wake them up, let alone have Graham hear anything that was going on.
Ulfric considered her proposition for a minute, contemplating where they could go. He couldn’t bring her back home, that was the whole reason they were here in the first place, nor could he think of any other venue that would be ideal to break the news he had to tell her. “Maybe we don’t have to go that far,” he counter-offered, spying a fire escape snaking up the side of the apartment building. The roof would be good, private but open, as he suddenly realized that the thought of being trapped in a small room with Layla and words of Celeste’s deaths was rather unbearable. He led the way up the spiraling staircase in silence, pondering how best to initiate his explanation of the events that had occurred on prom night, though he hadn’t come up with much of an answer by the time he arrived on rooftop, pacing as he waited for her to reach the top too. “You were told someone picked up the bounty on Ariana and Celeste, yes?” He queried softly once she did. The beginning, that was usually a good place to start.
She wasn’t sure where they needed to go, but him wanting absolute privacy made her more nervous than she already was. How bad could this conversation be? When he spotted the staircase leading to the roof, she reluctantly followed him. Did she want to know? Could her heart take what he was about to reveal? And why wasn’t Ari there? She was the one that broke the news to Layla. She was the one that made sure she was okay. She was the one that had rescued her from the dumpster and sleeping under bridges and in seedy motels. Was Ulfric about to tell her that Ariana wasn’t coming home? She pondered this all the way upstairs, and when she made it to the top, she tried to prepare herself the best she could for whatever news was about to come, “Y-Yeah...Celeste told me that when I first moved in with you guys. Ulfric?” Her warm brown eyes held a heavy sadness behind them as she peered into his own eyes looking for anything that would give her some kind of heads up.
Ulfric tried to meet Layla’s eyes as he searched for his next words, but seeing the sadness already reflected there, he pulled his gaze away. Instead, he fixated on the horizon behind her where a patch of the sky still appeared slightly hazy from the smoke that had filtered out of the abandoned warehouse on the docks districts. “Celeste’s parents… They slipped Ari some kind of sedative at the prom, took her hostage, wanted to draw Celeste out so they could make her watch them kill her. We managed to get Ari out,” he barrelled through, wanting to assure her of Ariana’s escape, but he knew it would be cruel to allow Layla to build up hope that everything had worked out after that. To allow her to think that maybe Ari was a little worse for wear but that otherwise things would continue the way they were. So, he barely paused for breath before adding. “But Celeste didn’t make it. I’m sorry-- I promised she could take the lead. It was her vengeance to take and I thought-- I should have…” He trailed off, a thousand better actions, judgments, and plans he could have made filling the space between them. Unable to settle on one he just repeated. “I’m sorry.”
Layla listened closely as Ulfric explained what had happened. She didn’t want to miss anything or to make him have to repeat anything. When she heard Ariana’s name and that she was safe, relief came to her. But the short pause caused Layla’s breath to hitch in her throat. And when she heard that Celeste hadn’t made it, her heart stopped beating, “Wh-What?” Tears began to fill her eyes. And her hand fell to her side, where some of the stitches had remained from the last time they had really got to sit down and talk to one another. The last time Celeste had given her advice and saved her from bleeding out from another stupid teenage situation she had gotten herself into. Her hand covered her mouth in disbelief as she let out a muffled cry. And then her mind went back to Ariana and the howl. That had been the reason she howled. Crying out because the girl who had become her sister was lying dead at the hands of hunters. At the hands of her own parents. The woman that Layla had shared a similar history too. The only person that seemed to understand what she was going through, more than anybody, was dead, “No-No this...this can’t be right.” She began pacing back and forth anxiously. Fiercely wiping her eyes and nose with her arm; sucking in air through her nose trying to clear her sinuses. But she soon stopped as a tidal wave of sadness came rushing over her. Someone else, who just in a short time, had become so important to her, was gone. A mentor and an ally. And while she knew the hurt she was feeling was only a fraction of what Ariana was feeling, it still hit her and brought her to her knees on the rooftop. Sobs began filling the air as Celeste’s death had seemed to be the cherry on top of all the drama that had happened in the past few days, and her heart felt like it was crumbling. No wonder Ulfric had told Layla to leave. But how could she even begin to go back to a trailer that held all the memories she had with Celeste. From the first day they met to the night she explained to Layla that her time would come to be brave and to help the pack. Followed by the two watching Legally Blonde and laughing until tears were in their eyes. But yet here she was again. Left in the lurch with no one there to explain to her that sometimes life just went this way and that she wasn’t alone. In that moment, with Ulf standing just behind her, she had felt so lonely. The relationship with Ulfric, though still relatively new, had felt strained. Layla had struggled to trust him and even though he was the one standing there telling her, because Ariana probably couldn’t and Celeste was...gone, she knew the connection him and the other young wolf had would never be something she could obtain, and the adult she had felt like she was connecting with the most was dead, “I didn’t even get to say goodbye…”
Ulfric stood frozen, wanting to provide Layla comfort but not sure how to do so. They both knew the trust between them was a recent thing, and rather tenuous. An embrace seemed to him like it might come across as inauthentic. Still, he wanted to show her that a better understanding between them wasn’t impossible. His misgivings about her weren’t as set in stone as they had been before his realization about Celeste; that her actions had been driven by a genuine love for Ariana, not malicious intent or cowardice. If someone with a hunter’s blood and abilities was still capable of having a good heart, then he owed this hunter’s child who lacked the latter the benefit of the doubt. With that in mind, he placed his hand on her shoulder hesitantly and squeezed. “I marked her resting place,” the older wolf informed her softly. “I know it’s not the same, but you can visit her, talk to her there.”
Tears continued to fall down her face as sobs could be heard. She was glad they had come to the rooftop. Glad Frankie wasn’t around to hear her weakness at this very moment. With Celeste gone, she felt confused. She had just started to find her footing. Had a parental figure in her life that she was starting to trust with both her head and her heart, and just like that, she was gone. Her mind jumped back to Ariana. Layla was older. She did feel protective over the younger wolf, but she was, by no means, capable of caring for anyone else. Hell, she couldn’t even care for herself half the time. Was she supposed to help Ulfric now? Those had been just a few of the hundreds of questions that ran through her mind. It was Ulf’s hand on her shoulder that stopped the swirl of thoughts and inquiries in her brain. The soft words gave way to quiet sniffles as her sobbing had eased, “And what about Ariana? Is she safe? Can I still see her?” Her eyes focused ahead as the sun was just pushing itself over the horizon.
“Yes, she’s safe,” Ulfric informed her, grateful and impressed that Ariana’s well-being was so forward in her mind despite how deep she still was in her own grief. He withdrew his hand but settled beside, on as equal a level as he could achieve given his natural height advantage, and joined her in watching the sunrise. “She’s staying with family friends, Deirdre Dolan and Morgan Beck. I’m sure she’d like to see you.” Despite his initial reservations about Layla he hadn’t failed to notice the bond she’d developed with Ariana, and now more than ever encouraging that bond seemed like it would do them both some good. “She just wasn’t ready to sort through her sister's things. And… neither was I,” He explained, confessing the last part reluctantly, but openness was something he needed to work on with her, if things were to be better going forward. “That’s why I asked you to keep out of there, but it didn’t seem right to explain the rest on the phone.”
Layla wanted to see Ariana. She wanted to spend time with her, but most of all, she just wanted to give her a big hug. Of course, it didn’t mean she could keep herself from crying. In fact, she knew after Ulf had left, she was probably going to curl back up in her corner on the floor and sob, “I don’t think Deirdre wants me anywhere near her house. I don’t know if you heard about the bean incident, but I sorta wrecked her place, when she was having me chase after a dog - Simon’s dog.” She wiped her eyes with her arm. It was the last thing Ulf said though, that kind of stung. Keep out of there. It was as if she wasn’t welcome. Like he didn’t trust her. Looking towards him, but not directly at him, she spoke, “I wouldn’t have taken or touched anything, Ulfric. I know I’m just some stray that Ariana took in off the street, and I may not have known Celeste as long, but she meant something to me, too.” Getting up off the ground, she let out a soft quivering sigh, “I appreciate you telling me in person. And I won’t go back until I’m allowed to. Just don’t touch my bow. My name is engraved on it. I think I got most of my things out last night after you texted me.” She put a soft hand on his shoulder, before heading back downstairs to Graham and Frankie’s apartment. Slipping back inside, she found her spot back on the floor and laid back down, quietly crying to herself, until she couldn’t anymore.
“I doubt she’d hold some minor property damage against you now,” Ulfric countered, he didn’t know Deirdre very well but while she had come across as odd and a little dramatic, she clearly wasn’t uncaring. He doubted she’d be petty enough to stop the girls from visiting each other in this time of grief. “If you want to see Ari you should.” It wasn’t until Layla went on the defensive that he realized his mistake. “That’s not what I meant—” He protested, inwardly kicking himself for the poor phrasing. Keep out. He’d meant he wanted to keep her from harm, since his residence was now a treacherous place full of inescapable reminders of what they’d lost, not that she posed a threat to the sanctity of Celeste’s memory by being there. Still, considering he had outright told her he thought of her as a potential threat before, he couldn’t fault her logic. “It just didn’t seem right for you to remain, going about your business as if everything was fine, when it wasn’t,” he tried to clarify, by the young wolf was already descending the stairs. With her enhanced hearing, he had reason to hope she’d heard him, but not that she’d believe him given their history. With a sigh, Ulfric collapsed onto the rooftop and waited for Layla to reach the ground, allowing her to put some distance between them before he would leave himself. Above him, the stars had set, Celeste’s last night on this Earth had officially drawn to a close. Nothing remained but the bright morning sun to burn away any shadows that might have hidden the fact she was gone.

Awkward Reveals of Multiple Topics
Something Just Like This Fic 5
Just Call my Name (I’ll be There) by Blackmore’s Night
One Call Away by Charlie Puth
I’ll be There for You by The Rembrandts
Still own nothing.
I know somewhere on tumblr there is a post floating around about the idea of a Supergirl reveal where because of reasons Supergirl has to change out of the supersuit and into regular clothes. Alex and Lena proceed to provide Kara with her own clothes, neither knowing that Kara is Supergirl but figuring it rather quickly after the outfit swap.
This is my take on that post. If anyone knows of it or where it might be located, please let me know so that I can fully credit the OP. OP, thanks for the idea even if it’s taken me months (years?) to actually write it.
^_^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Kara stared at the pile of clothes Alex was holding out to her. Her memory-wiped sister was handing Supergirl clothes from Kara Danvers’ closet.
This wasn’t going to end well.
“What, not up to your standards?” Lena’s voice was clearly teasing, but there was an underlying dare for some kind of comment against her friend.
“No, the clothes are perfectly fine,” they were hers. Of course they were fine.
“Well hurry up,” Alex hissed, thrusting the clothing into her arms. She had already thrown a baggy NC Women’s Basketball hoodie over the top of her uniform. The hem hung low enough on her slim frame to cover her utility belt, the pants and boots nondescript enough to pass at a quick glance for normal clothing.
Lena had already switched out her heels for flats; her jacket shoved into the duffle bag Alex had containing articles of clothing for just this occasion. Her dress shirt hung open, revealing a t-shirt Kara would swear had originally hung in her closet. The sleeves were rolled to her elbows and a pair of sunglasses rested on the woman’s head.
“Not a word from either of you,” she hissed. They were going to be upset at her, she knew it. Well, she was upset at them!
“Why would we say…” Lena trailed off as the Kryptonian exited the hidden corner they had ducked into in order to change.
They hadn’t given her a hair-tie or a pair of Kara’s glasses.
“Not a word,” Kara hissed again, taking their elbows and beginning to drag them towards an exit. “Not a single word.”
“H-how?” Alex was sputtering. Oh…her head hurt.
They waited until they were far enough away from the building before cracking.
“Explain, now!” Alex demanded, rubbing her temples.
“Yes, please do.” Lena’s eyes were dark with her anger.
“No,” Kara shook her head. “No. Neither of you get to be angry about this. You,” she pointed at Alex, “chose to forget in order to protect me. And You,” she turned to Lena. “Do you have any idea how many times I’ve tried to tell you? And every single time something comes up and interrupts us!” Kara shook her head. “It’s not as if I actually tried all that hard to hide it from you in the first place!”
“I need to sit down,” Alex collapsed on the nearest bench. Her head hurt as the memories realigned themselves. They had never thought of a situation where Kara would need to change in front her or where Alex might need to offer Supergirl alternate apparel.
“When?” Lena demanded. “When did you-” She cut herself off. “You flew me to the DEO out of costume. You flew on the bus to my office.” She joined Alex on the bench. “What the fuck Kara?”
Kara sighed. “I liked being just Kara with you, so I was selfish.”
“It’s not entirely her fault,” Alex muttered. “Since she got here we’ve all told her not to tell anyone and stay hidden.”
“Does everyone else know?” Lena was furious, which was better than hurt.
“Normally, yes,” Kara admitted, “but I didn’t tell most of them.”
Alex snorted. “Most people figure it out.”
“Two,” Kara muttered, nudging her sister just hard enough to be felt. “Two people figured it out. I told Winn, Nia, and Lucy when I absolutely had to. We still don’t know-”
“Ms. Grant knows Kara,” Alex side-eyed Lena. “Honestly, my money was on you already knowing and not saying anything. You really didn’t know?”
“No,” but she should have. She looked at Kara. “Is there anything else you’ve been hiding from me?”
Kara gulped, eyes widening. Lena’s eyes narrowed. Alex watched them, not entirely certain if she should duck for cover or find popcorn.
“Um…maybe?” Kara squeaked out. This was not how any of this was supposed to go. It was supposed to be romantic and private.
“Well?”
Kara felt her mind go blank. Not knowing what else to do, she darted forward and pressed a fast kiss to Lena’s lips.
“Ihaveagiantcrushonyouandhaveforareallylongtimeandpleasedon’thateme!”
Lena blinked. Alex blinked. Kara remained frozen in place.
Slowly, Alex scooted away from the CEO. Nothing on her person would harm Kara, but getting weapons away from the possibly volatile CEO was a good idea.
Lena blinked again, her mind trying to parse out what Kara had just said. This wasn’t happening.
Her crush was not on the Girl of Steel.
Her crush had not just admitted to having feelings for her in the midst of a crisis.
Except this was her life and both those things were very much true.
Kara scrunched in on herself, certain she had just lost not just a friend but someone she cared deeply for. Losing Lena would be like losing Alex, and that was something Kara had thought would never happen. No one had ever been as important to her as her sister, until the green-eyed CEO had entered her life.
She had come very close to losing both of them far too many times in the last two years for her to ever make lite of such an occurrence or to be lack in their safety.
Alex watched the train wreck happening in front of her and had no idea what to do about it. On one hand, they had been lying to Lena (with…somewhat…good intentions (and both women’s safety) in mind) since almost the moment they met. The woman had every right to be angry at them. On the other hand, Kara was her sister and ever well-honed instinct Alex had as an older sibling said to side with and support the blonde.
The issue was that Lena Luthor had been wiggling her way into Alex’s well-guarded heart as another little sister. She was discovering that she wanted to support both of them and didn’t know how to do that without hurting one or both of them.
Lena wanted to feel furious. Kara had been lying to her face, treating her almost two completely separate ways their entire friendship. Only, well, it would take an idiot to think that knowing Kara was Supergirl wouldn’t put a target on someone’s back. How many times had Kara nearly lost Alex just in the two and a half years she had known the pair? Fuck, she had just watched as Alex’s mind was returned to normal from having the memories of Kara as Supergirl hidden away. To protect Kara, Lena knew it was a choice she would have made as well.
“Were you ever going to tell me?” Lena finally forced out. She would deal with the Supergirl part first, the feelings thing later.
“Yes,” Kara answered without hesitation. Telling Lena had always been on her mind. No matter what anyone else said or even what the other woman had admitted to doing or planning to do, Kara knew deep in the very core of her being that Lena Luthor was a good, trustworthy person.
The Kryptonian took a deep breath, forcing herself to look at the woman she was in love with and face the consequences of her decisions. “Yes, I was always going to tell you.”
Any grand speech she might have mustered up in that moment was ruined by the arrival of several guards and rouge agents. Their shouting broke the moment and the trio of women ran off.
“I’ve got her, you get them,” Alex told her, tugging Lena onto the bike she had stashed earlier. “Hold on!” She jammed the extra helmet on her (hopefully) friend’s head before revving the engine and taking them past the people searching for them.
Lena yelped, barely getting the second needed to readjust the helmet properly before Alex took off. She wrapped her arms around the elder Danvers’ sister and held on for dear life.
“One of you is going to be the death of me,” she muttered, glad that this wasn’t the sister with super-hearing.
Alex smirked, deciding not the let the brilliant CEO know that the helmets were linked with a wireless headset so driver and passenger could speak to each other.
She felt the same way about both of them more often than not.
*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&
It was several hours later when they managed to regroup in the safe house Lena had arranged earlier for them. Alex, not wanting to be stuck in the middle again, took her share of the food and told them to find her when they worked things out. She had decided that she and the CEO would hash their own shit out after they had.
Kara nodded, hugging her sister tightly before allowing the older woman to leave her sight. Even then, she waited until she was certain Alex was settled in another room before turning to Lena.
“I don’t know what to say,” she admitted into the silence.
“You lied to me,” Lena stated softly. “You told me to my face that you trusted me, that you believed in me.”
“That wasn’t a lie!” Kara snapped. “I do trust you, and I do believe in you. Not telling you my biggest secret had nothing to do with either of those two things.” She deflated, sinking into the chair across from Lena. “You are the one person in my life that always wants to have just Kara around, no matter how odd I can be. Everyone else, even Alex sometimes, tends to see Supergirl first. You always chose me over her.”
“You’re two sides of the same person,” Lena said it evenly, not judging. It was a thing she could relate to, being seen as just Lena and not another Luthor.
“It doesn’t feel that way sometimes,” Kara murmured, consuming several potstickers in a way that would have had a human choking. “I stand by what I said earlier. I knew it was selfish, but I did it anyway, and I did try to tell you. So many times…and then every time we were interrupted by some kind of emergency or assassination plot.” She met Lena’s eyes, part of her wilting inside to see the blank gaze focused on her. “I could have handled the kryptonite better, but not even I’m immune to fear and kryptonite terrifies me.”
“You had James search my office.”
“Anyone else would have had to document it,” Kara defended. Considering how much access Lillian and Lex both had (despite Lena’s constant search and destroy tactics for those weak points) to any information at all, Lena was willing to give her that.
“When you first tried being my friend, was it to keep watch over the youngest Luthor?”
“No!” Kara shook her head. “And if anyone had even suggested it, I wouldn’t have done it. That’s…that’s…” English failed her and she said something in Kryptonian that didn’t have a real translation. The best she could come up with when later asked, was ‘a crime against the bond between hearts’.
“So when you said that earlier, that…”
“It’s the truth,” Kara said softly, “it took me awhile to figure it out, between Alex coming out and everything that is always going on around us. Humans are so strange when it comes to this, I still don’t understand it.” She swallowed, throat suddenly tight. “I am in love with you, Lena Luthor, and I have absolutely no idea what to do with that.”
Lena had no idea what to do with it either, and she said as much. They settled into tense quiet.
The CEO wanted to be angry, she really did, but holding her back was the fact that they were in the middle of an already volatile situation where they needed to work together. They couldn’t afford to begin fighting amongst themselves.
Not when they were facing her brother and his little pet project that her…oh. Well…Kara didn’t have the corner market on keeping things secret.
“We’ll talk about this more after we deal with Lex.” Lena dropped into the silence. “For now, we can’t lose focus.” She swallowed tightly. “But no more secrets, alright?”
“Right, no more secrets.” Kara readily agreed.
&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&
The final battle between them and Lex Luthor was a mess. Lena hacked the computers and got the system under control, the gun in her holster heavy at her side. She knew what she would need to do if her brother managed to escape.
Sure enough, she found herself in the exact situation.
Lex stood across from her, taunting her with Lena’s inability to actually use the gun she had aimed at him.
She pulled the trigger. Lena would never forget the sound the bullet made when it impacted into Lex’s chest.
He looked down, stunned at the spreading patch of blood. He touched it, laughing as he fell to his knees.
“So ready to defend someone who’s lying to you Little Sister.” With a snap of his fingers, the screens around them shifted to show images and videos of Kara switching between herself and Supergirl.
Almost on reflex, Lena squeezed the trigger again. Lex fell to the ground, still snickering as his life began to fade away.
With a calm she wasn’t certain how she kept, Lena approached the nearest console and tapped the sequence needed to erase everything. Some of it had to be images of Red Daughter, put together by Lex to undermine Lena’s belief in Kara.
“I…still…win,” Lex rasped out. “Th…they’ll…n-never…trust you.”
Lena turned to him. “That’s where you’re wrong brother,” she knelt so she could look him in the eye. “I already knew.” She smirked at him. “She told me herself.” She chuckled this time. “It’s over.”
She stood up, dusting off her pants.
“You lose.”
She walked out of the room.
Alex was waiting for her, armed and ready to burst inside. Once she saw Lena, she relaxed a little.
“You okay?”
“I don’t know.” Lena admitted after a moment. Her hands were shaking. Alex holstered her weapon and gently eased Lena’s out of the other woman’s hands before it was dropped. Safety clicked on, Alex shoved it into a spare holster before wrapping an arm around the smaller woman.
She didn’t need to look into the other room to know that Lex Luthor was dead or need to ask what Lena had done. She was just glad that it was her and not Kara who had gone after Lena in this moment.
“Come on, I’ll call it in.”
“Going to arrest me for murder Agent Danvers?” Lena tried to joke, but she was seconds away from breaking down. She had just shot her brother. She had just managed to do to him what he had been trying to do to her for the last three years.
“What murder?” Alex asked her, calmer than Lena expected her to be. “It wasn’t murder Lena,” she said softly, “it wasn’t. It doesn’t even need to be you who pulled the trigger if it helps. No one has to know unless you want them to.”
That offer was what broke her. Alex was willing to take the blame from Lex’s sycophants and any heat from her superiors in order to protect Lena. Alex merely tightened her hold and led Lena out of the building, barking orders into her com-unit for the agents with her to secure the building and anything inside it.
Was this what Kara spoke of, when she described Alex as the best big sister? That feeling of knowing someone cared enough about you, loved you enough to take on your sins as their own?
What of Lex Luthor? Lena heard the sharp voice one of the other commanders over the unit. She thought it might have been J’onn, but she wasn’t certain.
“Dead, confirmed.” Alex replied, voice steady. “Ms. Luthor is in my custody and unharmed.”
Take her home Director Danvers, that was definitely J’onn. We’ll debrief with her in the morning.
“Yes Sir,” Alex replied.
“Alex! Lena!” Supergirl landed, harder than she meant to if the cracks in the ground were any indication. “Are you both alright?”
Kara bore the signs of a hard fought battle: dust and debris in her hair, rents in the fabric of her suit, the edge of her cape was singed in places and there was an actual hole near one corner, scrapes and a few cuts that had yet to heal.
“Shaken but fine Supergirl,” Alex assured her. “Report?”
“Battle’s over, DEO agents and NCPD are finishing the cleanup.” Kara straightened up, brushing some dust off her shoulder. “I came to see if you needed any help here.”
The all clear was given just then. The trio watched as a stretcher carrying a black body bag was brought out and loaded into a black van. Several of the agents nodded to Alex before climbing into the back. Alex gave the information that the body is in-route.
“I’m taking Lena home, meet us there?” Alex muted her com-unit before she spoke. She might have her memories back, but not everyone did just yet. She and J’onn would need to work on that.
Kara nodded, giving them one last look over before launching back into the sky.
“So where, exactly, are you taking me?”
“If mom had her way, Midvale,” Alex said without a trace of sarcasm, “since we’re still needed for the moment, Kara’s. Unless you want-”
“Kara’s is fine,” Lena said, not wanting to even contemplate returning to her apartment or office. She needed to call Jess and have her…she needed to rehire Jess as her PA. Before that, she would get the cleaning crews for both places to do a deep clean and techs in to do a sweep of anything her brother may have left behind.
It would be just like him to leave something behind just in case.
“Good,” Alex led her to the same motorcycle from before. This time, she gave the younger woman enough time to get the helmet on herself. “And don’t think I’m kidding about mom. As soon as she’s been given the all clear, she plans to come here. So is Sam.”
“What?” Lena stared at her, not knowing what to do with that information.
Alex made certain her com-unit was off before she said the next words. Kara really hadn’t been exaggerating things when it came to Lena believing other people cared about her.
“You’re family Lena, and when Family hurts we come together.” She stared directly into Lena’s eyes, visor still up. “If you hadn’t taken Lex out, I would have. No one hurts my family.”
Yea, Lena thought as she hastily closed the visor to hide her tears, this is what it felt like to have a sibling who actually cared about you.
*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&
“Girls!” Eliza engulfed all three of them into one giant hug upon her arrival. Sam and Ruby were the next to get that treatment, as were the others there to greet the Danvers matriarch. Even J’onn got his own hug.
Things were still rocky, but nowhere near as bad as they could have been if Lex’s last ditch attempt had actually worked. Lena leaned against Kara, allowing the alien woman’s warmth to seep into her.
If anything, some of them were closer than ever.
Kara’s arm came up and wrapped around Lena’s shoulders. She laughed at something Alex said, returning it with her own comment that sent Alex blushing and causing Sam to laugh before tugging the redhead into a kiss.
Nia barged in, tugging Brainy in behind her. “We have the games! Did you know they have a Batman version of Monopoly?”
“I did,” J’onn took the stack of games from the exuberant young woman. “Food first,” he admonished all of them.
“Humans first!” Ruby called out, heading towards the first pizza box. “Ew, this one is Aunt Lena’s. It has kale on it.”
Several of the others laughed at her disgusted look, but the teenager dutifully handed over the box to the CEO and jumped right back into the fray before the larger appetites could consume everything.
Lena accepted the box of pizza, smiling at the sight of her family and friends being silly as the food was distributed and spots were found to sit in.
“You okay?” Kara asked softly, taking the plate Alex had made up for her.
“Yeah,” Lena said after a moment. “I am. Partners?”
“Always,” Kara replied. “Always.”

I have a crazy idea! how about you write a one shot about the dream kara has about monel?! consider this a prompt (it doesn't have to be in s5 you just inspired me btw I love you)
Did we get this far just to feel your hate?
In which Lena I’m Not Villain Luthor leaves Kara behind in the Fortress, broken and tortured, without a chance of escape. But fortunately, there are people who truly care about Kara Zor-El. Even when they are centuries away.
You can find this fic on AO3 (x) For my wifey @zrnas
***
When the portal disappeared, Kara put a trembling hand on her chest, twisting the material of her suit.
Lena used her.
She could feel her racing heart, beating like a drum, almost like it wanted to jump out of her chest.
Lena manipulated her.
She took a shaky, shallow breath. And another. And another. And another, faster and faster.
Lena turned the Fortress - the last remaining shred of her home - against her.
Her chest tightened painfully with every shaky breath.
Lena stole Myriad.
A hot wave of tiredness washed over her and she finally fell to her knees.
Lena caged her in a box made of Kryptonite and ice.
The walls of her jail were closing in. Suffocating her. It was so difficult to take a breath.
Lena left her here… for what? Not for death, but for the feeling of the needles piercing every inch of her skin?
She choked on her tears, feeling absolutely helpless. She was trapped for Rao knew how long. Was she going to die here?
Lena. Her dear best friend. The good person.
Kara reached for her neck and took out a thin chain with a ring hanging on it.
Lena was going to make the biggest mistake and it was all Kara’s fault.
With her last ounce of strength Kara broke the chain.
Her fault.
She put the ring on her finger.
HER. FAULT.
The darkness embraced her just before she hit the ground.
*
It looked exactly like she remembered.
A peaceful sea of gold grass caressed by gentle wind. A serene sunny day with a view of Saturn on the cloudless blue sky.
She was wearing the same white dress. Her hair was longer and a little curly and no bangs were covering her forehead.
It looked exactly like he remembered it, too.
“Hey, didn’t expect you to be back so soon.”
His deep, cheerful voice that she missed so dearly every day reached her from behind.
She slowly turned and there he was, in the same wrinkled white shirt, with her mother’s necklace hanging around his neck and a few days’ shade on his face - just like in the good, happy times before she’d sent him away.
“Winn told me to-” his smile faded when he looked at her.
In a second he crossed the distance between them and gently cupped her wet face into his hands.
“What happened,” he asked softly, fear replaced the happiness in his voice.
Kara opened her mouth. Nothing but a pained sob escaped her mouth, and new tears fell.
“Hey, hey.” He wiped them away and kissed her forehead. “I’m here, everything is going to be okay.”
Was it really going to be okay? she thought, clutching his shirt and hiding her face in his shoulder, as he firmly held her to his chest.
*
“It’s not your fault.”
They were at their favorite spot near the lake.
She was sitting between his legs, with her head on his shoulder, playing with the necklace. Mon-El’s cheek was lying on her head and his arms were around her, like he wanted to shield her from the world.
She didn’t know how long she was crying into his shirt - they realized in the beginning that time in their dream world didn’t matter. Sometimes their meetings felt like days passed. Sometimes they felt like minutes, with one of them disappearing suddenly, woken up in the real world.
For now, Kara was grateful she was still there, absorbing the warmth of his body.
“I lied to her, Mon-El,” she whispered and trembled, as she remembered Lena’s face twisted with hatred and fury. “I betrayed her trust and -”
Mon-El growled.
“Babe, you don’t owe your identity to anyone,” he said in a strained voice that was weirdly comforting. “You kept it secret because you were not ready to tell her. But in the end you did, and she repaid you with more lies and manipulation. You can’t take responsibility for other people’s actions. Nothing you did gives her the rights to torture you with Kryptonite.”
“But, she is hurt and… and...” she bit her lip.
He sighed, raised his head and gently turned her head, so they could look into each other’s eyes.
All he saw was pain and uncertainty.
All she saw was honesty and love.
“You were hurt too, when you realized I lied about my past,” he said softly. “And you forgave me in the end, because-” he didn’t finish.
“Because I loved you,” she sighed and he brushed her cheek.
The tightness in her chest loosened a little.
“You forgave me, because you were, and still are a good person, Kara.” He kissed her hair. ”And nothing will change that.”
“Lena is a good person too,” she mumbled and put her head on his shoulder again.
Mon-El clenched his teeth, but didn’t say a thing.
Good people don’t lie, manipulate and hurt others because they are butthurt. Good people don’t put their friends into cages made of Kryptonite and torture them. Good people don’t steal things that can make people zombies - he thought, but said nothing.
For now, Kara didn’t need words of truth. She needed support.
“If she is a good person, then she will understand. You will reach her… soul,” he said softly, praying he was sounding plausible.
Because he was pretty sure that the sick fucking Luthor bitch had no soul.
Kara took a deep breath, broke their embrace and kneeled in front of him.
This time she was the one who cupped his face.
The kiss was short, but sweet.
“I love you,” she whispered, still a little embarrassed by the words, even if she said them so many times.
Mon-El smiled.
“You know what?” he said.
“Hmm?” she smiled back, waiting for the words that he was supposed to say.
“I walked in on Imra and Garth again,” he finished sadly, with sparks of mischief dancing in his eyes.
Kara choked on the air she was (not really) breathing.
“Not funny, it’s the fifth time this month,” he pouted. “And I’m not even counting their nightly rendezvous in Garth’s room and you know the walls on the Legion ships are really thin, right?”
Kara snorted.
“And today! Here I was happily walking into the kitchen, lost in my thoughts, totally not prepared to see my Legion mates sucking their faces off on a table.”
Kara laughed again.
“How am I supposed to prepare any food on that table now, huh? I’m traumatized,” he complained but all Kara managed was more hysterical laughing.
When she finally calmed down, she put her forehead on his, and sighed happily, lost in the moment, not thinking about anything.
Mon-El closed his eyes and smiled.
He wanted to tell her so many things. About getting closer to catching Brainiac. About Winn mastering flying with his Legion ring. About new members of the Legion..
About how much he missed her and hoped they could meet again in the near future.
But now was not the time. Not when she was lying unconscious on the Fortress’ floor, poisoned by Kryptonite.
“You need to wake up, Supergirl.”
Kara raised her head and looked at him.
Her comets shone with determination.
“You need to wake up and fight.”
She kissed him for the last time.
“Wake up,” he whispered.
When he opened his eyes, she was gone.
*
Kara woke up cold, stiff and dizzy. She felt Kryptonite running through her veins, hurting her, torturing her, making her weak.
But she slowly got up and stood on shaky legs.
The green barrier was still around her.
She was Kara Zor-El.
She was Supergirl.
Kara clenched her fist.
And this shit was not going to stop her.
With a cry she punched the barrier.
It shattered into pieces.
*
In the dream world, Mon-El smiled, holding the necklace.
“That’s my girl,” he whispered and looked at the sky.
And he prayed.
For Kara to be strong enough to get through it without losing her heart. Without losing her innocence, optimism and faith in people.
For Kara to be able to save the Luthor woman without Lena tainting and corrupting her soul.
And if not…
He prayed for Kara to understand that some people didn’t deserve to be saved.
*
Did you ever hear what I told you?
Did you ever read what I wrote you?
Did you ever listen to what we played?
Did you ever let in what the world said?
Did we get this far just to feel your hate?
Did we play to become only pawns in the game?
How blind can you be, don't you see?
You chose the long road but we'll be waiting
Bye bye beautiful

The universe says that some things cannot be fixed with hugs. Kara Zor-El Danvers believes otherwise. Standing there while Lena yelled at her and holding that bomb Myriad thing, all Kara did was contemplate her entire life, her entire friendship. You see when mxy was sending Kara back in time to try and find a point to properly confess to Lena, Kara realized that when everything went to hell, there is no better way to fix a fight than with a hug.
Lena was yelling that she wasn't a villain. That Kara should have told her and not deceived her like everyone else. That she thought they were best friends, Kara should have trusted her.
Kara knew what she had to do even if Lena didn't trust her or like her or care for her anymore.
Kara flew at Lena, knocking the Myriad bomb out of her hands, hugging her tightly but safely for her strength.
"Kara what- What are you doing?! Get off of me!" Lena yelled struggling to no avail to get the kryptonian off of her.
"No!" Kara yelled, surprising the upset Luthor.
"I know I hurt you! That I betrayed you, that I deceived you. I should have told you and I didn't! I didn't want to put you in harm's way and I couldn't find the right time! Don't you know how hard it is to not tell you things? The number one villain rule is to target the loved ones of a superhero! Someone could have, would have come after you and I know you can handle yourself but I couldn't risk it! Damnit Lena! I love you! More than a friend, than a best friend! You're the most important person in my whole life! I know you're upset but I'm not about to deceive you like everyone else in your life has! I'm sorry Lex told you first, but he told you to get between us, to ruin us and it worked! He's a villain! Taking my loved ones away!"
Pulling away, Kara was shaking, sniffling, crumbling. It was.. really sad.
"If you hate me... then fine. I can't change your mind. I'm so so sorry Lena... I won't ever bother you ever again." And with that, Kara turned to leave, too depressed to fly. She was literally walking out of the fortress of solitude. Leaving Lena there to stare in shock and disbelief at what she'd heard. Kara... loved her... and watching her leave like that, then looking at Myriad on the floor... something ached in her chest and it wasn't hate.
"Kara wait!"
This was ridiculous. Love? Kara? With her ? Lena Luthor. Lena Luthor . A super in love with a Luthor.
Lena’s over-intelligent brain was going through everything, every little thing. Since they’d got here, no, their entire friendship. She was more than sane enough to go through their.. 2, 3 years of friendship, over-analyzing everything. And then, watching Kara’s sad, shaking, hunched form as she walked out of the Fortress of Solitude, and Lena’s cold, frozen, stone, locked iron heart unlocked, melted again. She could almost cry again, but for another reason. Guilt? Apology? At times like this, before... everything... she wanted to comfort Kara, hold her, rub her back, hug her, tell her it was okay, that everything was okay. But… she couldn’t. Not like this.
A few minutes of more thinking, honestly, regretfully, Lena put Myriad back where it belonged. She sighed with a clench of her fists, before finally turning and making her way out of the Fortress of Solitude, finding Kara actually sitting on the ground, well, ice, knees to her chest, crying. It broke Lena’s heart, but then she remembered everything else. Killing Lex Luthor for her. The secret she’d learned from the enemy. She couldn’t shake that. Regardless of Kara’s reasons.
She was broken from her thoughts with Kara looking up at her, tears streaming down her cheeks, eyes risen sadly but a little hopeful. Wanting to apologize again, but Lena held up a hand.
“I think we should be apart for some time. I really need to think about things.” She said in her serious Luthor voice, the one usually reserved for depressing, frustrating, irritation business matters.
Kara broke Lena’s heart yet again when she sniffled and nodded her head, crumpling her form if she could do so anymore.
Giving an almost sympathetic sigh, Lena called for a pickup from her very discreet security, one of the few, very few good things that came from Lex. She would wipe the pilot’s mind of this place later from the mind control technology she'd gotten with that Martian's evil brother. Surprisingly enough, as the jet appeared, Lena went towards it, and upon ascending, in a soft voice she knew only Kara could hear, she looked back, not looking at her directly, and spoke.
“Kara, I’ll call you when I’m ready to talk.” And like that, the Luthor was gone, out of sight, headed back to her safe spaces in L-Corp, National City.
And another surprising thing, Kara watched her leave, disappear, and as the paragon she was...
Kara actually had a little hope.
——————————————————————————————–
It had been 4 days so far. Just 4 days.
Kara’s POV.
The first, Kara sad and moping, too depressed to move, watch tv, even touch her favorite ice cream, Alex and Nia came over to comfort her and make her feel better, practically having to shove Kara’s favorite potstickers down her throat because Kara refused to eat. Get out of bed. She was super deadweight and even though the women wanted to complain, they knew Kara was hurting badly, and they had to give her sympathy. Eyes droopy, down to the floor, they were surprised Kara kept her breathing up, she’d forgotten to breathe before. Unfortunately they had work so they couldn’t care for Kara long. Kara’s friends made the rounds, each visiting her, taking care of her.
The second day Kara got around to caring for herself, just doing little things. Her heart, her whole body ached with sadness and her brain never quit once to torture her of the previous events. But at least she was mobile again. She managed to get a bit of food and water into her system without extra hands, but still, her body ached at the emotional loss of her bestest friend.
The third day, the world started to panic ridiculously, as it always did. Where was Supergirl? Why had she been missing? She was always seen around National City at least twice a day by someone, so where had the heroine gone? Of course the news started getting around. CatCo denied and refused anything about it, not having an opinion. Everyone there also knew of Kara’s absence, the excuse being she had a really bad cold and would miss a while, using her saved sick days even when working for Cat Grant. But alas, James, Winn, Lena… knew the truth about the situation, but they didn’t say anything. The guys didn’t speak a word to Lena about it, as it wasn’t their place.
The fourth day, Kara would joke to say the city was on fire because Supergirl didn’t come to put out the flames. At least the city’s fire and police departments were getting their exercise. Who cares! Supergirl deserved some time off. But trying to turn her super hearing off, Kara stared out the windows of her apartment, sighing sadly, wishing and waiting for the phone call she hoped for every day. But it didn’t come. She practically had her phone on full blast, scaring the daylights out of herself if someone else called her. But she swore it was worth it...
——————————————————————————————–
Lena’s POV
The dumbest 4 days of her life.
Burying herself in L-Corp work she’d put off with all the.. cringe.. Superhero work. Well, now was a good time as any to get caught up. She awkwardly remembered she was a lawyer before all cape-wearing hell broke loose. Oh well.
Unlike Kara, Lena didn’t have too many friends... She got Brainy as a part-time assistant since her prized tech had sacrificed itself, and with that her original assistant too. Well... she should really get around to making friends at some point.
Her first day was quiet, lonely. Barely ate, kept up her hydration with a mix of water and alcohol. Which wasn’t too good either. But she was getting through paperwork. It was calm.
Day 2 was less so. More work, finally getting food since her stomach was torturing her. But alas, quiet again. She was determined to be busy, to not think too much. It had only been 2 days.
And then it were 3.
Day 3, she was more lax. Work pretty much done, Brainy being ordered by the very much alive Lex Luthor to keep his sister alive while she secluded herself with the disappointing contemplation of “pitiful friendships with worthless people, especially supers” Lex had said.
Lena decided to watch some tv after finishing her work, grumbling when it meant she didn’t have much to do now. Upon seeing the news, the regular channel her tv usually stayed on, there were worried reports about a “missing Supergirl.” Lena sighed, knowing it was probably because of their... fight. Knowing the Kara side of things, the blonde was probably holed up in her loft, crying and either only eating comfort foods, or nothing at all. The small part of humanity, Lena believed, almost felt bad. But no. Kara had betrayed her. Lied to her, deceived her for so long. She wouldn’t be changed. She was hurt. So she rolled her eyes at the tv, and the rest of the day she caught up on some Netflix, getting as comfortable as she could in the big modern office.
And Day 4 for Lena, she was bored. Still hurt. But now, because of her copious amounts of free time, she decided to see from a 3rd point of view, her memories. And thankfully she could remember each and every one clearly.
The longer she stayed in her head, reviewing everything, the more her heart sank. All the lies, all the secrets from Kara... all the nice things Kara did for her, the way Kara looked at her when she thought Lena wasn’t looking... A pit began to form in her stomach, slightly guilty. And because the contacts allowed her to morph imagination into reality... her mind went faster than she intended it to, because when she suddenly found herself pinning a certain superhero to her desk, both faces flush, Kara’s stomach against the cool glass and metal, and Lena leaned right up against her curves, gripping her hair and whispering something she couldn’t make out into the shell of the blonde’s ear, well...
Lena immediately turned the contacts off, gasping for air with hands tightly gripping the chair’s arms. What the hell was that? Was she... with Kara... and they were... She shook her head dramatically, opting not to do that again. Damnit, now she felt cool under her dress. What the hell. Damnit. It was probably just an accident in her head, mind wandering a little too far being cooped up in this place for half a week. So she decided to go out, go home, get some sleep. And not have weird sexy dreams of mounting National City’s finest.
The days after that were long and dry. Supergirl eventually got back out, flying, helping, saving. She was on the news yet again and when reporters asked what happened to her, she said honestly, into the camera “I really hurt a friend. I didn’t mean to, but I did. So I’ve been trying to put things behind me, accept the fact that this probably broke our friendship, and if there was even a chance of anything more, that’s gone too. Sometimes things happen, and... you can’t fix it. You can apologize as much as you’d like, but in the end, the one who was hurt the most, it’s up to them. If they want to forgive you, or forget you. Whatever she chooses… I accept.” And then, as one super did, she took off to the next objective.
Lena occasionally saw a blue and red blur through the sky when she looked up, making her sigh, roll her eyes and look away. And upon turning on the news again, watching the interview, Lena grumbled, trying to rub the pink out of her face. Why was her heart racing. Why did her chest ache? She didn’t love Kara. Not like that. Jesus, get it together Lena. You were stone cold, an icy glacier.
So why.. Was stupid Kara Danvers… suddenly melting her heart?
——————————————————————————————–
“... And I don’t know why I keep having..” She paused, looking around the little restaurant her and Sam were at, as if feeling she was being watched because of course she was, but Lena sighed and rubbed her temples. “ Odd dreams of her.”
“Odd as in?”
“You know what I mean, do not make me say it out loud.” Lena growled, squinting her eyes as she tapped on the menu book in frustration.
“Have you maybe considered that you li-”
“No. I already told you what she did.”
“Lena.” Sam called, having serious eyes and hands on the other’s. “I know she hurt you, I’d be hurt too but you have to understand that when people have… abilities, they become a symbol. A big huge beacon that everyone can see, can follow, like a lighthouse. But sometimes, people get offended, threatened by such a beacon. It’s too bright, too helpful, too kind, whatever. They want to tear it down, hurt it. Destroy it. And if this beacon has anything it cares about, finding that care and tearing it down too, can ruin the lighthouse that much faster. She did it to really protect you. She wanted to tell you, and she just couldn’t find the right time, because what with your mother, and Lex, and Crisis, and even my.. Crazy super side... when was there a real opportunity to sit down, take a deep breath, and unbox another massive thing alongside all of that?”
Listening carefully, staring into Sam’s eyes, once Lena completely understood, she looked incredibly pissed off, which made Sam laugh right away.
“You know I hate it when you’re right.”
“Oh I know, and it’s hilarious. So what are you going to do?”
“Well first I’m going to drink a lot of red wine, get something to eat… and figure out how I feel about her.”
Giving another laugh, Sam patted Lena’s hands before pulling away. “So, you forgive her?”
“I... I guess. I’ll have to have a long, long talk with her.”
“So that’s an indefinite yes.”
“Yes…”
“And?”
Sigh. “I haven’t dated as much as everyone else, alright. I don’t even know how I’d approach this.”
Sam contemplated, while waving a waiter over, taking their orders and then going off. “Why don’t you call up a bunch of Kara’s friends, to get advice not just on her, but dating women in general. From what I hear, a lot of Kara’s friends are queer.”
Lena blinked, before groaning. Gosh. She would have, what, 4, 5 women making fun of her for being a grumpy Luthor with a crush on a super rather than a grudge. This was going to be great.
“We’re gonna need a whole bottle tonight, Sam.”
——————————————————————————————–
And so, the sun was in the middle of the sky, as 6 women sat in park benches all around. It was almost mortifying for Lena. Alex, Kara’s sister. Nia Noll, Kara’s super friend and ally within the not-so-newly-shapen CatCo. Then Sam, Lena’s one real friend, surprisingly enough. Then the worst of them. Well, worst for Lena’s conflicted mood. Alex had suggested and then carried through calling some more super friends for Lena to really get a good view and grip on the thoughts, lifestyle and feelings of actual queer women. Not that Alex wasn’t up to it, she just needed some more help. Sara Lance, and her adoring partner Ava Sharpe. Upon dating a super, Ava knew all about… everything. The two never kept secrets, so everyone was brought up to speed about the situation.
“So, yes… I guess.. I’ve come around to put an end to the anger I have for Kara, but I just wanted some outside opinions on-” Lena began, before being cut off.
“Dating women.” Sara interrupted, with that little gay smirk.
Lena snapped her head with embarrassed fury towards Sara, before fixing her skirt as she did and huffing.
“I don’t love her. I just wanted some… advice on how to deal with her feelings.” Lena said matter-of-factly.
“Because you want to return them.” Sara said again, having a shit-eating grin on her face. Ava gave a little laugh, patting her lover’s arm, hand and shoulder.
“Lena it’s completely normal and natural to feel this way.” Ava assured her, and everyone gave cute little nods together.
“Yeah besides, with how much Kara talks about you, I’m surprised this is only happening now and not ages ago.” Nia added, with Alex giving a knowing smile.
“Gosh, how my sister finally accepted her feelings and would just drone on and on about how much she cared about you. It might come as a shock but she was really stressed out all the time, wanting to tell you her secret but knowing you were too busy with the Luthor stuff so she kept quiet, not wanting to bother you.”
Oh… wow. Lena swallowed, trying to ignore the continued growing guilt in her gut. Kara was so upset, so stressed out, about her secret, her own problems and life but she shoved it all down for Lena. For Lena… because Kara loved Lena, not just platonically, but romantically. Maybe even…
“No!” Lena shouted, standing from her bench, startling all the other women.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Then she sighed, releasing some of the tension that had been built in her system.
“Gods... what’s the matter with me? You’d think a girl would learn...”
Suddenly she started singing as the sun began to set, and all the other women looked at each other, smirking at themselves and then Lena.
“If there’s a prize for rotten judgement, I guess I’ve already won that..”
The brunette picked up a flower, twirling it in her fingers before tossing it away.
“No person’s worth the aggravation… that’s ancient history been there, done that.
The women began to stand, all in a row next to each other before they too began to sing at the forlorn Lena Luthor.
“Who’d you think you’re kidding? She’s the Earth and Heaven to you, try to keep it hidden, honey we can see right through ya,”
“Oh nooo!”
“Girl you can’t conceal it, we know how you’re feelin’, who you’re thinking of!” Sam picked up the flower Lena had tossed, eagerly waving it within Lena’s view but she swatted it away with her hand, pacing away slowly, eyes half-lidded before she continued singing.
“Ohhhh, no chance, no way, I won’t say it no no.”
“You swoon, you sigh, why deny it oh-oh.” The women sang, crowding Lena with big grins, but again the Luthor waved them off.
“It’s too cliche, I won’t say I’m in love.” She means, really? A Luthor and a Super? No way. It was impossible. Their kinds were enemies. There was no way she was in love with Kara. Regardless of how the other felt.
The other woman cooed and sung in the background, following Lena as the gorgeous sunset brushed her face. They moved through National City Park, Lena unconsciously moving to the city’s large hero statue. The women all smirked even more if they could, they knew better and would continue to argue.
“I thought my heart had learned its lesson” (from loving and trusting people close to her, that it was a mistake) “it feels so good when you start out... My head is screaming ‘Get a grip, girl!’ unless you’re dying to cry your heart out, ohhhh oh!” Lena sang out, even putting a hand on her chest with the other extended, spinning herself and twirling as she belted out the tune.
“You keep on denyin’ who you are and how you’re feelin’, and baby we’re not buying, hun we saw you hit the ceiling! Face it like a grownup, when’re you gonna own up that you’ve-”
“Got!” Sara sang out.
“Got,” Added Nia.
“Got it ba-ad!” They sang in unison, all facing Lena with pointed fingers at her.
Lena stared with a startled look, before sighing, turning away and running a hand through her head. “Woahhhhh.”
“No chance, no way, I won’t say it, no no.”
“Give up, give in-” they sang, as Lena suddenly found herself up against the large stone statue of National City’s own Supergirl, making a power pose. A goofy lovestruck grin was plastered on her face, imagining those strong arms embracing her, holding her with love like nothing else mattered.
“Check the grin, you’re in loooove.” Sam called out to her with a snarky smile, insisting in song that Lena was beyond head-over-heels for Kara Zor-El.
Upon hearing such a call-out, her grin disappeared, she hopped down from the statue, and shook her arms away from her in an “Absolutely not!” fashion.
“This scene, won’t play. I won’t say I’m in loooooooooove-”
“You’re doing flips! Read our lips, YOU’RE IN LOVE!!”
“You’re way off base, I won’t say it,”
Almost giving into Lena’s boasting, they sang a line of agreement, shaking their heads in unison while Lena sang her line. “She won’t say in love..”
“Get off my case, I won’t say it!” Lena half-sang/half-growled, glaring at the background singers with eyes ablaze with… denial.
Then the group grinned and moved to sit Lena down on what felt like the lap of a second stone statue. Lena instinctively wrapping her arms around the neck of the oddly smaller stone superhero statue with her eyes closed, before glaring at the group again.
“Girl don’t be proud, it’s okay, you’re in loooove.” They sang again, Ava giving Lena the flower she’d previously picked and discarded, before all of them shrugging, waving goodbye, and walking together out of the park as they finished their background singing.
“Ohhhhh.... at least out loud…” Lena began, curling close to the statue, holding the flower against the statue’s neck, not realizing one of the arms had gone under her legs, and was lifting her into the air,
“I won’t say I’m in.... loooooove…”
“Sha-la-la-la-la-la, hahhhh…” The women sighed and swooned as they left the scene, and once the song was over, Lena opened her eyes to get a grip on herself, before screaming in surprise more than terror upon seeing she was way in the air over the park, in the arms of none other than her supposed nemesis, Kara Zor-El.
“I suppose we should talk about things, huh…” She laughed awkwardly.
——————————————————————————————–
Lena insisted they go to Lena’s penthouse, the apartment building closest to L-Corp while still being away enough to separate Lena’s work from her private life, if she even had one.
Her place was so white, so pristine, so modern. Kara, in her Supergirl outfit, landed on Lena’s balcony, gently putting her down.
“Were you following me? Did you know I’d be out there?” Lena asked right away, crossing her arms from leaning against the doorframe, blocking Kara from really entering her home.
“No! I wasn’t! Alex texted me during your uh,”
“Musical escapades,” Lena offered, rolling her eyes.
“Right, uh, yeah she told me to come down, said it was a good time to talk to you.”
Jeez, the Danvers sure were a team.
“Your song was really lovely. I didn’t know you could sing so well.”
Lena gave a playful smirk, with those mischievous eyes. “There’s a lot you don’t know about me, Supergirl.” She teased, before her face went serious, and she turned away, chucking her head a little to the side to silently invite Kara in.
“Do you have spare clothes? It.. feels a bit weird seeing you like this.” Lena murmured, hugging her arms to her chest as she sat down on the white couch.
“Oh! Uh, I’ll get changed hold on-” Kara flew to her place as fast as she could, changed, and flew back in a simple light blue blouse and dark blue jeans. Lena offered her one of the comfy white chairs across from the couch. Awkwardly Kara sat down, wringing her hands or fiddling with her glasses as she did when she was nervous. Lena almost felt bad. Maybe just a bit.
With a sigh, Lena got comfy before looking at Kara, then she sighed a little again. Gosh... Kara was so beautiful. Wait hold on. They were here to talk. That was all.
“So.. Kara. If that's even your real name?”
Kara looked incredibly offended, her face painted with hurt at such a first question, but she answered kind of angry. “Really?” Kara pouted, crossing her arms.
Lena shrugged with a smile, one Kara loved so much. Upon seeing a smile growing on Kara’s face, she looked away before making eye-contact. The seriousness was going to come by.
“Tell me. Why didn’t you tell me?”
Kara looked guilty, looking down, giving that whole vibe as if someone kicked a puppy. “I... I don’t know… I just.. I could never find the right moment, and then..”
“And then I found out by myself.”
“Right…”
“Because I was busy with all my stress, and the labs, and Lex.”
Kara visibly cringed.
“Being a Luthor, and my mother, the office, having CatCo at one point..”
Kara nodded, eyes full of guilt, sorrow, as she kept agreeing. Whether it was just to acknowledge or she really was agreeing with everything, nobody really knew.
Lena sighed again, running her hands against her temples, this time her sigh felt guilty and Kara actually lifted her head when she felt it. “I was so busy with everything, stressed out, with all the drama and the danger, you were always there for me when you could be. When you weren’t saving the world, when you weren’t helping other people, when you weren’t being Supergirl.”
Kara winced again, as if taking a kick to her actual form. She tried her hardest not to tear up because she felt so bad. But then suddenly there was a shadow over her face, and felt something on her cheek, it wasn’t just the tear that ran down… there… was something else. She looked up a little to see a thumb, then a hand, then an arm, and… Lena was standing over her, looking sad. Sympathetic.
Lena knelt down to be a little lower in height then Kara because of the chair, but then she painfully dragged the glass table over and sat on it to sit directly in front of Kara, doing her best to have her hand sit on Kara’s face the whole time. Once she was sitting, her other hand went on the left armrest. She wiped at Kara’s face with her thumb, stroking her cheek, and looking into those big sad blue puppy eyes, she nodded, and was almost relieved to give Kara permission to give her pale hand soft kisses to the muscle below the thumb, and her palm.
Kara was almost overjoyed at the touching, Lena’s sad eyes meant something. She put a hand over Lena’s, placing very light kisses upon the thumb’s base, and the palm, sliding it a little off her face to kiss the center of her hand but just as soon put the hand back on her face, taking a deep breath with a laugh when she heard Lena chuckle. This hand was practically her lifeline right now.
Lena smiled through sad eyes, but then frowned and Kara looked horrified like she’d just run over Lena’s dog. Oh Rao, what had she done to upset Lena now?!
“So… you kept the secret from me to protect me. That’s the truth, right?”
Kara nodded frantically, still holding the hand but even more delicately like if she really held onto it, it might break or turn to dust.
“You were keeping me safe from the possibility that someone might realize you have someone you care about, they’ll try to use that care against you. Right?”
Again Kara nodded, this time tears began to pool in her eyes and she did her best to be quiet, keep them in, not make a sound despite how much a whimper wanted to escape.
“You wanted to keep me safe. You couldn’t tell me your secret because you were too worried about all the other stress I had going on, you knew that this secret would just add to the load. You wanted to, as my best friend, but just couldn’t find the time? You absolutely wanted to but it just never found a time to come up. That’s the most part, right?” Lena was putting it into much better words than Kara ever could, not just because she couldn’t form a single word through the shaky sobs right now.
Then suddenly Lena stood, taking her hand with her. She moved the table back to its original spot. She moved away from Kara, back to the sofa on the other side of the table. Kara looked horrified. She’d done it. She’d ruined everything. Their friendship was over. Lena was going to kick her out, work with Lex, become her enemy. Kara morphed her face into the saddest thing ever possible, then she put her glasses onto the table to cover her eyes and face with her hands as she still tried hard, but the sobs, the whimpers were causing her to shake, almost violently, until-
“Come here Kara.”
Her sobs, her whimpers, her crying froze, and she looked up at Lena, who still had half-lidded eyes, but a small smile on her face. With knees to her chest, one arm on the closest arm rest, the other arm was extended out, patting the seat next to her. C’mere, girl.
Kara hesitated, as if this was a trick, a trap. In case Lena didn’t mean it, that this was how it ended, but then-
“Kara, please come here.”
With superspeed, Kara sat next to Lena, causing a slightly powerful gust of wind to go through but not enough to topple or damage anything. She sat on the couch with her back straight, legs pressed together, hands on her lap like the good girl she was, until Lena put her own legs on the floor, and reached over to drag Kara onto her lap. Kara was confused but she didn’t dare resist. Lena pulled Kara onto her lap, and with a grunt she moved herself and Kara to the middle of the couch so Kara could actually sit on Lena’s lap and also stretch her legs. Then Lena pulled Kara to her chest, wrapped Kara’s arms around Lena’s sides, and kind of gently forced them into a slightly awkward hugging position. Once Kara understood, she moved around a bit to make herself more comfortable, and as soon as Lena spoke again, giving her permission, Kara did exactly as she was told.
“It’s okay Kara. I forgive you. Let it all out. ”
And Kara did. She hugged Lena tight, not to hurt her, but a real genuine hug, and let out all her sobs onto Lena’s shirt. The brunette rolled her eyes but chuckled, rubbing Kara’s back and holding her close.
It was maybe an hour or two later. Poor puppy Kara had literally cried herself to sleep. And Lena seeing Kara without her glasses, she was definitely Supergirl. But wow had she cried a lot. And... wow... was she beautiful... Lena gently tucked a stray hair from Kara’s sleeping face, then leaned over to the table to get some very soft tissues, stroking them along Kara’s face, pressing a little roughly to wipe the dry tear streams, and any left over near her eyes. Then her stomach grumbled. She missed lunch and dinner. Thankfully she still had her phone on her so she ordered some food, enough for both of them if Kara woke up. And enough for breakfast. Thankfully she didn’t really need anything else till the delivery person arrived. And now back to Kara. Wow... she was so... so gorgeous... the gay in her wanted to place a kiss upon Kara’s sweet sleeping forehead… but the mature side of her knew she had to do something else.
Very carefully, Lena slid Kara’s slightly heavy body off of her to the other side of the couch, making her as comfy as Lena could. Giving her a pillow, covering her with a light blanket. Then… she did it. Lena leaned down, placing a soft kiss upon Kara’s forehead. Then admiring her sleeping face… wow. She would have and could have spent eternity watching that sleeping face, but thankfully, pizza was there. Lena went to pay, had a few slices as she put the boxes in her kitchen, and then watched a little bit of tv from her couch before wishing Kara a good night. Unbeknownst to them all, Kara smiled in her exhausted sleep. Finally, things were looking up for the most unpredictable pair of people.
