Luthor-Danvers - A Reckless Endevour
Part 4 - An Almost Perfect Getaway
“Alex, hey.” Lena said, greeting the DEO director on speaker phone. “I’m just about to walk into a meeting, can I call you back later?”
“Lena, Lex had a visitor. Something interfered with our systems, so we just got the code yellow. Nothing has happened yet, but we want to be careful until we’re able to identify the visitor.” Lena was stunned, silently processing the news. “In the meantime, you and El should go home just to be safe.” Alex warned in a quick, clear voice. Lena still hadn’t spoken, her mind racing a mile a minute. “Lena, are you there?” Alex asked.
“Ye--Yeah, yes. Sorry, yes.” Lena stammered as she got up from her desk. “I’m packing up now. I should be at El’s school in 15 minutes.”
“Just go straight home. Kara’s already on her way to the school.” Alex said reassuringly.
Lena felt a sense of relief knowing that her indestructible wife was guarding their daughter. “Thank you, Alex, and if you hear anything, any updates at all, please keep me informed.”
“Sure thing. Now get home and stay safe.” Alex softly ordered.
Lena was on autopilot the entire drive home. Who would visit Lex? Lillian’s out of the picture, and most of Lex’s former associates have scattered to the wind. Her mind kept going in circles. It had been so long since Lex was locked behind bars, and well before El was in the picture. El only knew bits and pieces of Lex’s story, just enough to quell her inquiries, but certainly not enough to appreciate the risk.
Her phone vibrated, notifying Lena of an incoming call from her wife. She picked up immediately.
“She’s not here, Lena.” Kara said in a panicked voice.
“What do you mean she’s not there?” Lena asked, the words coming out angrier than anticipated.
“I went to the school and asked them to pull El out of class, but they said she was marked ‘excused.’ They even checked her classroom just in case, but no El. No one has seen her all day.” Kara quickly explained with a shaky voice.
“That’s . . . that's not possible. I dropped her off. I saw her walk into the building.” Lena said in disbelief. “Call Alex now and tell her to check El’s tracker. I’ll check her phone's GPS as soon as I’m home.”
“Ok, call Alex.” Kara confirmed to herself. “Right. Alright.” Kara took a deep breath. “I love you Lena. We’re gonna find her.” Kara said in a reassuring voice, attempting to sooth her wife’s worries, just as much as her own.
Lena was so choked up, she just nodded her head as if Kara could see her, and hung up the phone.
“Alex, El’s not at school. Can you check her watch tracker.”
“Hang on, I’m working on it.” Alex said without missing a beat. “It shows El at--” This can’t be right… The DEO director quickly rebooted the application just in case the system was still experiencing issues.
“Alex where!” Kara said urgently.
“She’s at school.” Alex said with traces of confusion and fear in her voice. This may just be coincidental, but the director couldn't help but suspect Lex’s visitor had something to do with El’s disappearance.
“Alex, she isn’t here! The school checked and I--I can’t hear her heartbeat--” Kara’s voice cracked at the end.
“Kara, listen to me. Breath. We’re going to do everything we can to find her.” Alex said, trying to keep her composure for her sister’s sake. “Now, get back to the DEO. We’re already pulling up the school's security system and CCTV footage of the surrounding area.”
Lena saw the text from Kara. El’s watch wasn’t with the teen as it had been that morning. Lena couldn’t wait any longer, still driving with one hand on the wheel and the other working on her phone, Lena checked El’s phone GPS. Nothing. There was no location for the phone, meaning it was either off or destroyed. Lena threw her own phone in the passenger’s seat and sped white knuckled the rest of the way to the penthouse.
As she eased into her usual parking spot, something seemed off. Lena got out of her car slowly, grabbing the taser in her purse just in case. She looked left, everything was in order, then right and spotted it. The parking space belonging to Kara’s old camry was empty, and Lena knew Kara hadn’t driven the old car since El stopped playing soccer two years ago. Out of all the luxury vehicles, why would someone take the camry? Lena put the taser back in her purse. She had a good guess as to the answer to her own question. El.
—-------------------
El walks through the penthouse door at 3:48pm, once again dressed in her school uniform, and right as planned. The relief of being home is quickly shattered when the teen takes note of her mom standing calmly at the kitchen island. The last time Lena was home this early was when L-Corp was bombarded by a hit team. But, Lena’s far too calm… scary calm in fact. El schooled her face, she knew her only hope was to play it cool. She had no sense of what her mom did or didn’t know.
As soon as El made it to the island, Lena pulled her daughter into a tight hug. “Thank roa, El. We’ve been worried sick.”  El was still processing the situation, but decided the best course of action was to act like nothing happened. The teen couldn't help but feel a surge of guilt as her mom pulled away from the hug, still holding El’s shoulders tightly.
“Mom. What’s going on? Why are you--,” El feigned innocence, trying to get a grasp on the situation. Lena’s concerned yet stern expression told El, her attempt at total innocence was in vain, Lena knew something. El quickly diverted her eyes to the ground in an effort to avoid Lena’s piercing gaze.
Lena held her hand palm side up, “Give me the keys, El.” El knew a losing battle when she saw one. El conceded and went without argument to the side pocket of her backpack and fished out the camry keys, placing them in Lena’s hand.
“I--I’m so sorry mom. I didn’t mean to worry you.” El apologized as she tried to move away from her mom, her guilt intensifying by the second. The teen had never done anything even remotely bad (other than maybe sneaking into the weapons locker), so she didn’t know what to expect next--disappointment, anger, yelling, punishment, etc. Lena’s relative silence felt like the calm before the storm. At this point, the best El could hope for was a stern “go to your room”, but no such luck.
“Take a seat on the couch. Jeju will be home soon, then we need to have a talk.” Lena instructed in a tone that made it clear this was non-negotiable. El quietly made her way to the living room as if she were a suspect enroute to an interrogation room. She plopped on the couch, dropping her head into her hands with a sense of defeat.
After taking a few seconds to gather heself, El’s mind went back to work trying to figure out her next move, if she even had one. She wasn’t willing to give up on her project just yet, especially now that she’d enlisted Lex’s help. And, like Lex said, she had all the intelligence and cunning of a Luthor. This is just a little set back.
First, she knew she had to determine what her parents know about today, besides that she hijacked the camry. El pulled her phone out of her backpack and powered it back on, all the while keeping an eye on Lena in the kitchen, aware that the CEO could look up at any moment. From the home screen El could see a dozen or so missed texts and calls.
Based on the texts and their timestamps alone, El surmised that, an hour after she left the prison, there was some sort of DEO emergency that required El to stay at the penthouse for security reasons. There was no indication that anyone knew about El’s visit to Lex nor that she stole DEO equipment and impersonated an agent. If they had, El was certain Director Danvers would already have El in a pair of kryptonite cuffs and off to a DEO holding cell. Even though her Aunt was a softy at home, El knew that, as the DEO Director, Alex had a duty to uphold the law, even if it meant locking El away.
El surmised that she had only been partially caught, which was a relief. Her project could still move forward, she just needed to exercise a bit more foresight and caution from here on out. For now, El’s objective was to mitigate the damage. She knew she’d have to own up to some of her wrong doings and maybe indulge her parents in the conversations she’s been avoiding. If everything went as planned, it would all be worth it in the end.
The sound of boots lightly landing on the balcony made El tense up, the anticipation of Kara’s arrival finally coming to an end. Lena lifted her head to see Kara open the glass door. The penthouse was eerily quiet as the Super made her way to the kitchen. She eyed her daughter sitting on the couch, elbows on her knees, head in her hands, completely stoic. El could feel Kara’s eyes on her, but couldn’t bring herself to look up for fear of seeing Kara’s disappointment.
When Lena initially called Kara and told her about what El did, Kara almost didn’t believe her wife. But, when Lena sent the garage security footage, a detail El had overlooked in her haste, Kara was still shocked but couldn’t deny the truth. Even though the couple was relieved to see El hadn’t been kidnapped or injured, they were concerned beyond belief. El was always such an easy going, smart, and kind kid, she didn’t have a rebellious bone in her body, or so they thought.
Kara gathered Lena into a warm hug. Some of Lena’s tension from the day dissipated as she rested her head on Kara’s strong shoulders. “How’s our girl?” Kara whispered.
“Quiet… I think this is a discussion we all need to have. Any updates on Lex yet?”
“No, but Winn’s working on clearing up the interference with the security footage. The audio is completely lost, but the video might be salvaged.”  Both Kara and Lena had gone through the prison’s footage. The visitor was blurred enough to be any generic DEO agent. Hopefully Winn could work his magic to clear up the underlying data feed.
The couple refocused their attention on El, who still hadn’t moved. Even though they had discussed how to approach handling the situation with El less than an hour ago, they both felt at a loss now. Nonetheless it was time to face their daughter.
El kept her head down as she heard her parents approach. The teen’s adrenaline from earlier had finally worn off and the lack of sleep from the night before was taking its toll on her exhausted body. Lena took a seat on the couch to El’s left while Kara pulled a chair over so that El could look at both Lena and herself as they spoke.
“El, what happened today?” Kara asked in a firm but even tone. El still didn’t move. The guilt and shame that came with knowing how much worry she caused her moms was eating away at her. El couldn’t bring herself to look at her parents’ disappointed faces. She had to say something but she needed to take care not to get caught in a lie.
“Sweetheart, please talk to us.” Lena said as she gently put a finger under El’s chin and raised her daughter’s head to meet their gaze. El’s tired eyes met her parents. “What happened?” The couple’s concern deepened as they noticed just how exhausted the teen was.
“I-- I ju--” El stuttered as she began, “I just couldn’t do it today.” El finally managed to get out, releasing an exasperated breath.
Kara and Lena waited for El to continue, but the teen was determined to let her parents lead the conversation so as to avoid inadvertently revealing any new information to them. “What couldn’t you do?” Kara asked, dropping her gaze to meet her daughter’s downcast stare.
El looked up to see Kara’s genuinely concerned expression. The emotionally tense situation in combination with her already exhausted state, made El chest ache with guilt and shame. She ran her hand through her long blond hair and looked up to the ceiling trying and failing to keep her tears from falling.
Finally, El took a deep breath to regain her composure before continuing on. “I couldn’t take another day at that school.” There was a sense of relief that came with her painfully true words. The best way to dance around a topic isn’t to lie, but to know exactly what truths to tell.
This was a start, but Lena and Kara needed more from their daughter. “We just want to understand, El.” Lena placed a reassuring hand on El’s shoulder. “But, in order for us to do that, we need you to tell us what's going on with you.”
El took a shaky breath, “I go to school every day and I feel. . . empty. You keep me there because you want me to be a ‘normal’ teen, but . . .” El was gaining momentum now, the dam holding her pent up emotions cracking. “The classes are a complete insult to my intelligence, and...” The volume of El’s voice was rising and the teen couldn’t stop herself from continuing even after seeing the hurt expression on her parents’ faces. “The other kids... I know you want me to make friends or whatever, but I will never be their friend. I am not like them! ” El took a deep breath trying to keep herself together, “I’m not normal. I will never be normal. I know you're disappointed with me but I just can’t be what you want me to be.” And with that, El picked up her bag and stormed off to her room, leaving Kara and Lena speechless.
“I can’t believe she thinks we’re disappointed with her,” Kara never wanted her child to feel the pressures of having to be anyone but herself, “Ok, so maybe I’m disappointed she stole a car and drove without a license… but… what have we done Lena.” The couple was well aware that El had been struggling in school, but not that it had gotten this bad.
“We’ll figure this out. Its probably time to call Kelly too. But Kara, we can’t let her off the hook. She needs to know that what she did was wrong. We need to impose some consequences.” Kara nodded at her wife’s wise words. They had never really punished El before and between the two Lena normally handled the discipline around the house.
One call to Kelly, three takeout orders of cheese pizza, and an hour of cool off time later, the couple made their way to their daughters room.
Knock knock…
El opens the door and drops back down to her bed, biochem books strewn about. She’s aware of her massive success earlier, but now it's time for an encore performance.
“Ellie, ” Kara  sits on the edge of her daughter's bed. “Mom and I love you so much. We love what a smart, funny, sweet, caring person you are. We’re not disappointed in who you are… not one bit.” El can't help but crack a small smile at her Jeju’s words.
After a few moments, Lena broke the comfortable silence, “El, we still need you to tell us what exactly happened today.” If El thought she had gotten off easy by revealing her inner hatred for school, she was sorely disappointed.
El took a deep breath and began. “Mom took me to school, I went to the main building as usual, and then I left.” El shrugged and continued, “I came home and took the camry for a drive. And now we’re here.” El sighed. It was technically the truth, a very vague truth with large gaps but it was a safe start.
Lena and Kara were well aware El’s story was only a half truth at best. “Do you want to try that again?” Lena challenged, her eyebrow raised slightly.
“What? I was doing what normal teens do . . . I ditched and took a drive. It's not that big of a deal.” El rolled her eyes, “I’m sure you did far worse when you were my age.”
“El, this is a big deal.” Lena said, trying to emphasize the seriousness of the situation, “skipping school, not wearing your watch, hacking into the school’s system and altering your attendance record, stealing a car, driving underage and without a license,” Lena couldn’t hide her exasperation. “It's entirely unacceptable behaviour and you know better than this.”
“Nothing bad happened! No one got hurt and the car’s back in one piece.” El was digging her heels in and her exhaustion was really starting to show. “Seriously, relax mom. Luthors have gotten away with far worse.” Lena was stunned into silence at her daughter using the Luthor name in such a way. El immediately knew she had gone too far.
“No, El.” Kara’s eyes were piercing and her jaw clenched. “What you did was dangerous and illegal.” Kara paused, not breaking eye contact. “There was an emergency at the DEO today, and because you weren’t at school and weren’t wearing your watch--” Kara took a deep breath trying not to choke up at the thought of how panicked she and Lena had been earlier, “we couldn’t find you El. If anything had happened to you--” Kara shook her head at the thought. “We were so worried.” El’s heart dropped at seeing how upset Kara was. “What if you or someone else had been hurt?. . . Your actions have consequences, Luthor or not.” Kara and Lena looked at eachother, Kara giving a slight nod.
“Your jeju’s right, El. And we’ve discussed your punishment.” Lena’s voice was calm but stern. “You’re grounded until you’ve earned our trust back. That means when you're not at school, you’re home with me or jeju. No DEO or lab time either. And, for the next two weeks you’ll volunteer at the tutoring center after school.” El nodded, accepting her punishment.

Why is there almost no Lex Luthor content... I saw him in Young Justice and immediately got inspired lol
Anyways, here's a yandere!Lex Luthor fic, with Superman and Batman trying to rescue you, but do they have good intentions? 👀 (gender neutral reader ofc)
Warnings for mind controlling/altering devices & substances ✌️ and general yandere stuff ofc
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
You're not the biggest fan of big events with many people, but with Lex at your side, you find you don't really mind anything, even the gala you're currently at.
Holding his hand, you happily watch him as he talks to rich people you couldn't care less about, when he turns to look at you.
You perk up as he presses a kiss to the corner of your mouth. You try to lean into it, but he pulls away too fast for your liking. At least you catch a whiff of his scent, he always smells so good...
"Be a doll and get yourself a drink at the bar, would you?"
Ah.
That's code for "we're going to talk about confidential business stuff". Sure. You can spend some time away from him, even if it makes you feel a bit uncomfortable. You'll do it for him!
You silently nod, reluctantly let go of his hand and start making your way across the room towards the bar.
As you're leaving, you make out the word "Justice League". They have been giving him trouble recently, is that what their conversation is about? You can never remember what exactly their issue is with him... He's just a CEO!
Unfortunately the bar is out of earshot, so you can't keep listening, which is exactly why he sent you away in the first place, but you sit on a stool from which you can still easily see him.
He always says that you shouldn't worry your pretty little head about his boring business stuff, so you don't, but he always looks so good when talking about it! So serious and in charge...
After ordering a fun looking cocktail you sigh, already missing him.
You didn't use to like alcohol, but everything tastes better now that you know him, so you indulge in the occasional drink.
You catch yourself staring at Lex. Maybe you shouldn't look at him this much? What if people think he's weird for dating someone who's this obsessed with him? You don't want that for him, he has so much to deal with already... Swishing your drink around, you try to tear your eyes away from him.
You sigh again.
Somebody slides onto the stool next to you and orders a fancy sounding drink. He turns to you.
"Are you ok? I could hear you sighing from across the room."
"I'm fine... I just miss my boyfriend." You hold back another sigh and absentmindedly trace the rim of your glass.
"Oh, so you came here alone?"
"No, he's over there." You subtly point at him. "He's just talking about some important business stuff without me right now."
"Lex Luthor?" He pulls a face as you nod.
"So you're..." He says your name. Apparently people know you! Huh. You hadn't realized.
"I'm Bruce Wayne, by the way."
Now that he mentions it, you don't know how you didn't notice it before. He is quite famous. You probably should have recognized him, but you were too distracted by how dreamy Lex looks...
"What are you doing with him? I mean, he's not known for being fun. Or kind."
He sounds like he's joking, but you don't think it's funny. Your face turns serious.
"You must not know him very well, then."
He holds up his hands in defense. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend you or anything. Or him, I guess..." He trails off.
Changing the topic with a grin, he says: "I'm guessing that means I don't have a chance with you?"
You shake your head. He can't be serious.
"...What if I shave my head? Would you consider leaving Luthor for me if I was bald?"
You crack a little smile at that. But your answer remains the same.
"No, I wouldn't leave my Lexie for anyone."
His eyes widen. "Oh, wow, so your relationship is pretty serious, then?"
Why would he even ask that?
"Of course it's serious, I love him!"
He pauses for a moment, seemingly contemplating something.
"...and does he love you?"
You gently touch the spot where Lex last pressed a kiss to your face and look in his direction, only to find he's already looking right back at you. You smile.
"He does." You're sure of it.
Bruce gets up from his chair as Lex starts making his way towards you. "Well, it's been fun, but I'm going to go find someone I actually have a chance with." And avoid a confrontation with Lex.
He winks at you. "Bye!"
You don't say anything back as he leaves, because you're too busy looking at Lex, who's now standing right in front of you. He puts his hands on the bar behind you, caging you in with his arms.
"What did Wayne want from you?"
"Oh, I don't know, nothing important." Already distracted, you reach up to play with his tie.
He raises an eyebrow. "Were you not paying attention to him? Good. Can't have you leaving me for him."
Your eyes widen and you shake your head, even though you know he's just teasing you.
You would never! He smirks as if he can read your mind.
"Well, I have some more business to attend to. I have informed our driver that he is to take you home whenever you wish, while I will be returning to the office."
You pout at him. "I know your work is important, but please don't take too long. I'll miss you..."
He smirks. "I know, darling. I will hurry back to you."
The kiss he presses to your lips is eagerly reciprocated by you, before he gently pulls your hand away from his tie and goes back to the people he was talking to earlier, vanishing through the door.
No reason to stay here now that he's gone, right? You finish your drink and leave the building, but as you turn to look for your driver, you bump into someone.
You go to apologize, but the other guy is faster.
"Sorry! I'm sorry. I didn't mean to-"
His eyes widen and he straightens his glasses.
"Wait! You're Lex Luthors significant other, right?"
You nod with a smile. How lovely that this is what people know you as!
"I'm Clark Kent, with the Daily Planet. I've been meaning to talk to you about-"
Your smile vanishes. "No comment."
Lex told you that no matter what you say, reporters twist it in a way that makes you look bad, and that it's best not to engage.
He seems a bit disappointed at your quick response. "That's fair. But off the record, can I just ask how you met him? As far as I know, you weren't a part of these circles before you showed up on his arm one day."
"Off record?"
He nods.
You think you can trust him, at least with some of it.
"We met at my workplace. I used to be a barista."
Not knowing how to make it sound nice, you leave out the part where you thought he was rude to your coworker and reprimanded him, and how you only grudgingly agreed to go on a date with him because he cornered you after work and threatened to get your coworker fired if you refused.
But it was all a big misunderstanding! During that first date you realized that you really like him and that he's a really good guy!
He just didn't know how else you'd agree to go out with him after you were so angry at the beginning!
"So it was love at first sight?" Kent questions.
"Not first sight, maybe, but I knew he was the one during our first date. It just... felt so right."
Lex, of course, did know at first sight, but he's always been smarter than you, so it's not a surprise that he caught on more quickly.
"Well, thanks for the conversation. I'm going to find someone I can actually interview now, so my boss doesn't get too mad at me. Bye!"
He stumbles towards the building, bumping into someone else. What a clumsy guy! You catch him looking at you again before he enters through the door.
You finally make your way to the driver and get into the limo, driving home in silence.
Time for a lonely night without Lex...
Tumblr media
After you get home and get ready for bed, you put on one of his shirts and go to sleep on his side of the bed.
That way you'll definitely wake up when he returns, because he refuses to sleep on your side. He'll have to get you out of the way somehow, probably pick you up...
Burying your face in his pillow where his scent is the strongest, you fall asleep.
A noise from the direction of Lex's home office wakes you up.
You're still on his side of the bed. Did he come home and keep working? Seriously? Maybe he'll let you sit in his lap while he finishes whatever he's doing...
Quietly walking towards his room, you hear low voices. Is Lex on a call? In the middle of the night?
As you make it to the entrance, you can finally make out words. It's not Lex.
"-only let you come because you said you could be stealthy. If I knew you'd be this loud, I would have come here alone."
You sneak a look around the door. Is that Batman? And-
"This is my city, and I know Luthor better than anyone, that's why I came along. Besides, I didn't make that much noise!"
-Superman!
You take a step back. Where is the button that alarms security again...? Next to the bed, right? You start making your way back to the bedroom, but...
"We have company."
You're almost at the button, try to start running towards it, but Superman is in front of you before you can blink. Shit.
"Sorry, can't let you inform anyone that we're here, we still haven't gotten everything we came for!"
He actually looks apologetic. What is wrong with him? Breaking into your home, but pretending to feel bad about it?
He holds onto both of your arms and leads you back into the office, where Batman is tinkering with Lex's computer. What could they be looking for?
"Well, if you're here already, we might as well ask you directly. What do you know about Luthor's mind-controlling technology?" Batman asks you.
Mind-controlling? What would Lex need that for?
"I- I think you've got the wrong person. I have no idea what you're talking about."
"People who usually would never cooperate with Luthor have started working for him, so I got suspicious. After some research I was able to figure out that he uses microchips to control them. But we haven't been able to figure out how to extract them without causing damage to the person they've been installed in."
Batman takes a step towards you.
"So I'll ask one more time. What do you know?"
You really have no idea what he's talking about.
"Wh- What would Lex even use that for? I don't understand!"
"Batman, are you sure they know anything? We're already 99% sure there's a chip inside of them as well, maybe one of its effects is not remembering anything about the chips?"
"It was worth a try." Batman turns to look at Superman. "I assume this means you haven't checked for a chip yet? Make yourself useful and use your x-ray vision."
"Oh, right! Right..." Superman mumbles. "No need to be rude about it."
He focuses his gaze on you. It's pretty unnerving, knowing he's looking inside of you. There's nothing you could hide from him, nothing you could do to make him stop looking at you. You hope he's really only looking inside of you...
After looking at you for too long for comfort, he chimes up: "Yep, there's a chip! Right in the shoulder."
Of course there's a chip in your shoulder, but that doesn't mean you're being controlled!
"That's just a tracker! Lex put it there in case I'm ever kidnapped or something, so he'll immediately know where I am!"
"...You let him put a tracker in you? Voluntarily?" Superman seems confused.
"Yeah? Why wouldn't I?" You're confused as well. Why wouldn't you let him? He did it because he loves you! To take care of you!
Batman doesn't seem to care, only humming in acknowledgement and going back to fiddling with the computer.
That reminds you that Lex put another gadget on you...
Your necklace (beautiful, expensive, and of the letters "LL") sends him a discreet emergency signal as soon as you take it off! You just need to be able to reach it...
"Um... Superman?" You crane your neck to look up at him.
"Do you have to hold onto me like that? I mean, just, what could I do to get away, right?"
You look up at him and try to look as confused and innocent as possible.
You glance at Batman. He seems to not be interested in your conversation at all, instead focusing on the computer. Good.
"You're fast enough to immediately catch me, before I could even take a tiny step! Just- This position is kind of awkward to be in, right?"
Please fall for it, please fall for it...
"Sure, you've been pretty cooperative so far, I don't think we have anything to worry about with you..."
He chuckles, almost embarrassed, then reluctantly lets go of his hold on your arms, flexing his hands.
Holy shit. It worked.
"Nice, thanks!" You smile. What an idiot.
Now you just have to play it cool...
Act natural and normal and not like you're up to anything...
You reach up to rub your neck, as if having turned it to look up at Superman strained it.
Well, it did, but you're mostly doing it to get your hands near the necklace. And now you just have to-
The necklace opens with a quiet click, followed by an alarm sounding from the computer.
Right. You forgot it sends a signal to all of Lex's technology, including the computer in this room. Oops.
Oh well, doesn't really make a difference if they're aware that you alarmed Lex or not. What could they do about it now?
Both Superman's and Batman's heads snap towards you. You smile. Lex should be on his way now.
"Superman, why would you let go of-" Batman cuts himself off. "Doesn't matter. I have the information we came here for. Let's go."
"Are we just going to leave them here?" Superman sounds concerned.
Batman walks towards you, holding something up to your face. "No."
It smells weird, what is that? You feel dizzy, try to pull your head away from it, but Batman is holding onto you, you can't move.
Then, everything goes black.
Tumblr media
You wake up on a bed in a bright, unfamiliar room with an ache in your shoulder.
There's a bandage in the spot where your tracker is. Or, used to be, you assume.
Rude of them, to dig around in your body without your permission.
Lex will freak out when he hears about this. He must be looking for you already.
What is this, some kind of infirmary? Where exactly are you?
Just when you decide to get up and try to leave or find out more about where you are, Superman enters the room.
"Oh, you're awake!" He gently pushes you to lie back down. You don't object, you know how strong he is, even if he is being careful right now.
"You shouldn't get up yet, your body should still be adjusting to the chip being gone."
He looks at you with curiosity. Or with hope? You can't quite tell what his expression means.
"Which, by the way, do you feel any different? About Luthor? Any memories popping up that you couldn't remember before?"
Now that he mentions it, some of your time with Lex seems... clearer. You suddenly remember the whole chip thing. And that he's constantly trying to fight (and kill) Superman and the rest of the Justice League. And a bunch of immoral business choices. And villain stuff.
But you still love him.
"I don't feel any different."
Lex must have had a good reason to block those memories from your mind.
Maybe it was for exactly this scenario, so that if the Justice League kidnapped you, you wouldn't be able to tell them anything! Unfortunately they were able to restore those memories, but that doesn't mean that you have to tell them that and make it easier for them!
Superman looks disappointed. "Oh... That's unfortunate."
Why does he seem to be so invested in this? Just because he hates Lex? What does he care if Lex is in a relationship, that shouldn't concern him at all!
"So can I go now?" You throw your legs over the side of the bed and sit up again.
"I mean, now that you know that I wasn't influenced by that chip? You can't keep me here, that would be kidnapping!"
It already is kidnapping, technically.
"Sorry, I can't let you leave." He doesn't look super apologetic about this.
"Batman is still working on something."
"I'm done working on it, actually," Batman responds.
Wait, when did Batman get here? You didn't hear him enter the room...
Superman perks up. "And did you find anything?"
"I did." Batman turns to you, his expression even more serious than usual.
"Blood tests revealed that you are affected by a toxin that messes with your pheromones. After digging through more information on Luthors computer, I was able to find correspondence between him and Poison Ivy. Apparently they made a concoction that is specific to your dna, meaning only you are affected by it, and it causes you to be attracted to him alone. He must have used it as an aftershave or perfume, but it seems pretty long lasting. The effects should last up to a month after exposure."
No. That can't be true.
"You're lying. Lex wouldn't do that. He had no reason to do that, I love him!"
Batman ignores you. "Luckily I was able to synthesize an antidote. Hold still."
You don't hold still, of course, trying to scramble off of the bed, but Superman holds onto you.
"Shhhh, calm down. You'll feel better soon," he whispers, his mouth unnervingly close to your ear.
Batman gets closer to you with a syringe, preparing to inject you with a green liquid.
"This is going to hurt."
"Wait!" you try to protest, but-
-you feel the syringe enter your skin, and then you feel pain. In your entire body.
It hurts! Why does it hurt so much!
You squirm in Superman's grip. Your head feels like it's going to explode.
There's nothing but pain for a few seconds that feel like eternity.
But then- nothing.
You feel nothing. No pain. And-
"Holy shit." You blink.
"Holy SHIT."
What did that fucker do to you?
"I was in a relationship with Lex Luthor? Why did nobody stop me! What is wrong with everyone!"
You blink again.
"I mean, I guess you stopped me. So... thank you?"
Superman lets go of you, seemingly content that you've come to your senses.
Batman seems to be holding back a smirk.
You're not done processing everything yet.
"Why would he-"
You forget what you were going to say and gasp, distracted by a new thought.
"Wait, what the fuck am I going to do now! Where can I go? I moved in with him and he made me break off contact with all of my friends! I don't have an apartment anymore or friends to stay with!"
You look at the two heroes. "D- Do you think he'll look for me? Probably, right? I mean, we were going to get married."
You feel sick.
"Wait, is an engagement legally binding? Fuck. Can I just leave? We didn't make it public yet, but that doesn't make a difference, right? Fuck!"
Superman puts his hand on your shoulder. "Don't worry, we'll take care of all of that. We won't allow him anywhere near you ever again."
Batman adds on: "And you can stay in the Watchtower for now. That's the safest place for you. He won't manage to get in here."
You frown. "Are you sure that's ok? I don't want to be a burden..."
Superman's smile gets wider, it's almost creepy.
Batman moves closer to you, putting his hand on your other shoulder. You're starting to feel a bit smothered.
"We'll gladly take care of you. For however long it takes."
You wonder if that means forever.

“Okay,” Alex said, “listen, prepare yourself. She’s acting… strange.”
Lena strode next to her, clenching her fists as if she could grip her own cold fury with them. The audacity of Danvers
(Alex)
to call her in like she was some employee after what Kara had done to her, was shocking. She would have told her to fuck right off if not for the desperation in her voice. She almost hung up on her when Alex said it was about Kryptonite, and they needed an expert.
Outside the exam room, Alex directed Lena’s attention to a screen. Some two-bit “villain” (how she hated that word) was on the screen. She wasn’t sure what he was going for with his outfit but he looked like a cross between a cable repairman and a wannabe Ghostbusters with a helmet that reminded her of the cap on a salt shaker. He was thrusting a wand device at Kara, spraying her with a fine pink mist.
Some of the substance had been gathered into a small vial, currently residing in a lead canister. Lena turned the vial in her hands, watching the tiny, powdery crystals flow over each other like sand.
Lena swallowed, hard.
“She’s not on a rampage, so it’s not red kryptonite.”
“It appears to be pink kryptonite,” said Lena.
“Your scientific skills of observation astound me,” said Alex. “Marie Curie would be so proud.”
Lena gave her a flat look.
“Fuck you, Danvers. I haven’t had a chance to say this to your face yet, but fuck you. Fuck all of you, playing your little games mocking me to my face when we were supposed to be friends.”
“We were friends,” said Alex.
“Not friends enough for Kara to tell me the truth.”
“I told her not to,” Alex said, coldly, “and I was right. Maybe I kept at her too long about it, but she ended up keeping the secret because she was afraid you’d flip out and blow up your whole friendship over it, you fucking drama queen.”
Lena screwed the lead canister shut. It looks like it was meant to hold radioactive flour.
“Do you want my help or not?”
“Please save her. I’m prepared to deal with your sanctimonious bullshit if you save my sister.”
“I’ll need to work on the sample, but I should examine her first. Is it safe?”
“She would never hurt you.”
Lena rolled her eyes. Alex stared at her flatly.
“You two, Jesus Christ. If you were anyone else I’d just call it out, but fuck it, let’s keep this professional.”
Lena crossed her arms. “Call what out?”
Alex arched a brow. “Should I start with the office full of flowers or the literal billion dollars you spent on her?”
Lena’s nostrils flared and she felt red creeping up her cheeks. “That wasn’t about her, that was about keeping Edge from owning his own media empire. Murdoch is bad enough.”
“It’s a fashion industry magazine,” said Alex, “and Edge could just start his own. The difference is Kara worked at CatCo, where you started working instead of…”
“Do you want my help or not?”
Lena huffed. “Fine. Let’s go.”
Alex opened the door. Kara was seated sideways on the exam table, swinging her feet like a bored child. There was a faint pinkish tinge to sparking points on her pale skin and she looked up with a slight pink gloss to the whites of her eyes, visible at a distance.
“Heyyyyyyyyy~”, said Kara.
Lena blinked.
“Kara? How are you feeling?”
Kara stared at her hands. “Why are you here? I thought you hated me now.”
Lena felt a sharp sting of regret deep in her chest, but brushed it off, like crumbs from her sleeve. It was as meaningless as crumbs. Kara’s honeyed words were always to sweeten her lies.
Kara resumed staring at her hands. “Humans call them fingers, but I’ve never seen them fing. Oh,” she giggled, wriggling her fingers, “there they go.”
“Kara?” said Lena.
“Oh, hi, I didn’t see you come in,” said Kara. “Some dude sprayed me with glitter and now I’m all funny.”
Alex leaned over. “We only got her in her by convincing her the Backstreet Boys were waiting inside and she spent three hours singing those stupid songs with Nia before I called you.”
Lena licked her lips. “Ah, I see. Kara?”
“Yeah, babe?”
Lena flinched. Babe? What?
“How are you feeling?”
“I feel great,” said Kara. “Kinda… kinda relaxed but excited. I’m excitalaxed! I made up a new word!”
“Would you excuse us a minute?” said Lena.
“Sure,” said Kara.
Lena stepped out and closed the door after Alex joined her.
“Alex,” said Lena.
“Lena,” said Alex.
“She’s high,” said Lena.
“I know,” Alex sighed.
“That’s incredibly dangerous. If she was just a dumb blonde we could let her sleep it off, but she can bench press an aircraft carrier. What if she gets some inane idea in her head and levels half the city?”
“She isn’t going to hurt anyone.”
“Didn’t she throw Cat Grant off a building the last time she was under the influence of something? It was on TV, Alex.”
Alex scowled. “That was different. Also she had it coming.”
Lena’s brows shot up.
“What? She was a bitch to my sister. She made her cry like three times a week. I don’t buy into that hardass girlboss mentor routine, I never liked Kara working for her. It was a relief when you bought the company, I had hopes someone would finally be looking out for her. She’s fragile, Lena.”
Lena blinked. “What?”
“Yeah, turns out that having your planet explode and losing your entire culture, family, and way of life, then losing your foster father, and then having to kill your aunt who is your mother’s twin sister can do a number on you. Might make you a little bit clingy and weird and paranoid about losing everyone you love. Shit, Lena, out of that whole list I just lost my dad and it was not make me a drunk for six years and captain of the varsity slut team. And I’m gay.”
Lena stared at her.
“Why does everyone I know need therapy?”
Kara chose that moment to throw the door open, making them both jump. She was grinning ear to ear.
“I don’t need therapy, I need rum,” said Kara. She turned to Lena and stage whispered, “alien rum that I can get drunk on.”
“I don’t think that’s a good idea, Kiddo. Why won’t we go sit down and try to rest.”
Kara snapped her fingers. “I know what we can do! We can go clubbing! Come on, Lena, let’s go clubbing. If I go clubbing with you it’ll make Lena jealous.”
“We are so fucked,” Alex muttered.
Kara started forward, but Lena stepped in her path and pressed a hand to her chest.
She froze, staring open-mouthed at Lena. Lena could feel the muscles flexing under her palm and fingers, the nearly infinite strength pressed against her simple touch and yet yielding to it.
“Kara,” she said, softly, but firmly. “Let’s just go back in the room, okay? You’re intoxicated by the altered Kryptonite you’ve been exposed to and you’re not thinking straight.”
Kara looked her up and down, slowly. Lena felt a hot tingle pass through her and her legs quivered in her slacks. Kara’s eyes had gone dark and her chin dipped slightly and holy shit she was staring directly at Lena’s mouth.
Alex looked at her nervously.
“Lena,” Alex said, in warning.
“She won’t hurt me,” said Lena.
Brainy walked into the lab. “I have good news,” he said. “The half-life of this particular type of Kryptonite is very short, by my calculations it should only last a few… hours…” he trailed off, then added quickly. “I have business elsewhere, excuse me,” and fled the room.
Lena gave Kara a tentative push and the invincible Kryptonian stumbled back. Lena ended up guiding her into the room again and sat her down.
Alex began to follow.
“Its fine,” said Lena.
“Are you sure?”
“She won’t hurt me. Close the door.”
Kara sat down and stared between her feet, fiddling with her hands.
Lena waited for the door to close and sat down next to her.
“Are you mad at me?” Kara whispered.
“Yes,” Lena murmured. “I’m so angry at you that it makes me want to scream.”
“Oh,” Kara said, her voice small.
Lena sighed. “I’ll never be mad enough to let anything happen to you, Kara.”
“But you’re mad.”
“I’m mad. I let you in, you didn’t do the same for me. I let you see who I am, good and bad, and you held back from me.”
“I’m sorry.”
“I know.”
“But you’re still mad.”
“Yeah,” Lena sighed.
Kara rubbed at her arms, sniffling.
Great, Lena thought, she’s coming down.
“Everybody changes,” said Kara. “Everybody goes away and leaves me. I’m so scared, Lena. I’m so scared of being alone. I was alone forever and ever in my pod and it hurt so much,” she choked out a little sob. “Everyone goes away and I can’t take it. I can’t stand it. I didn’t want you to go away so I lied to make you stay. I’m sorry.”
Lena, haltingly, put an arm around her. Kara leaned her head on Lena’s shoulder.
“Can I make it so you’re not mad at me anymore?”
Curious, Lena thought.
She wasn’t mad at all right now.
Kara began to sob softly, and suddenly, all at once, being mad didn’t make so much sense after all. She still felt it burning in her chest but it had gone from hot coals to dying embers, from raging magma to something bitter and sticky coating her lungs, making it hard to breathe.
“I think you can do anything if you try hard enough.”
Lean smoothed back her hair and curled the sleeve of her designer jacket around her hand and used it to dry the tears, and Kara hugged her, tightly but gently in her insistent way.
“I’m sorry.”
“I know, darling. Just relax and breathe, I promise it’ll be better soon.”
It was a funny thing, when Kara kissed her. It happened so naturally, so easily, that once it began, Lena was hardly aware how it started. It was not a lustful kiss, though she could feel that was there in the hungry way that Kara’s lips tugged at her own, almost pleading. Nor was it sad. It was hopeful, and it made something flare in her chest.
No, more than that. A crushing blast of warm air snuffed the dying embers of fury in her chest and in their place a new bonfire blazed into being, a sudden explosive joyful warmth that would blaze in her forever until the sun went out and the sky went cold. It was as if Kara had given her some red sun fire.
On instinct she lunged into the embrace and suddenly they were on the table, Kara swinging one leg lazily off the side as Lena straddled and locked lips with her.
"Oh God," Lena blurted, yanking back.
"What's wrong, baby?"
Lena almost fell off onto the floor when Kara called her that. She was sitting on Kara, panting.
"We can't," said Lena. "Kara, please, you're high as a kite."
Kara let out a soft, sad sound. Lena brushed her cheek softly. "It's okay. Just let me lay with you."
Kara shifted so Lena could join her, and they lay facing each other.
"I love you," Kara whispered. "You are my red sun, my scarlet sky, my beacon calling me back from the void."
Lena's breath caught. She tucked in close and kissed Kara on her nose.
"I'm tired," said Kara.
"Go to sleep," Lena whispered. “It'll be okay. I'll still love you tomorrow."
With a contented smile, Kara closed her eyes, looking so peaceful that Lena wanted nothing more than to watch over her.
When Alex came in and laid a blanket over them, she had the most frustrating grin on her face.
Lena decided she'd allow it.

Tiny Overlord Danny Of Earth
The Justice League ended up in the future, where Earth was ruled by Tiny Overlord Baby Man Danny. A tiny alien-like being with tiny ears and a cloak.
And irony was, he made Earth once great! And in true world peace! In just 1 to 3 months of ruling.
Later, as they met Future Bruce and rested, they asked why they hadn't done anything. Future Bruce. "Why should we? The world is in actual peace. And we voted for him." Past Superman:" But! Voted!" Future Superman:" We gave up. There is no mind control or anything; he is just very effective in taking care of all of this. And it was him or Luthor."  Nightwing:" And he wants to adopt him."
Future Bruce. "The rest called dibs first, I will still try it."

Luthor-Danvers - A Reckless Endevour
Part 1: Sunday
Sunday evenings in the Luthor-Danvers household are pleasantly predictable, well at least as predictable as a home with a kryptonian, genius CEO, and half-kryptonian genius teenager can be. As usual Lena sits in her dimly lit office wearing yoga pants, an old MIT hoodie, and fuzzy slippers that her wife gifted her last christmas. The CEO was pouring over the quarterly L Corp. revenue reports in preparation for Monday’s jam-packed schedule of meetings--first research and development, then two separate board subcommittees, and finally ending with video calls with potential overseas investors.
Meanwhile, at the kitchen island, Kara furrows her brow in concentration as she scrolls through an email from a new source concerning an ongoing story about proposed alien protection legislation. The legislation goes before Congress in a few days and, if passed, would provide greater housing and employment protections for second generation aliens and hybrid-aliens born on earth. Even though Kara has a duty as a journalist to be neutral, she can’t help but be invested, after all her daughter is a second generation hybrid-alien. Kryptonians blend into human society easily, but there are still calls for alien registration and alien detection technology.
Kara enjoys her nights like this, being home with her wife and daughter. She has been off duty from the DEO for the past two weeks, ever since she was struck with a concentrated form of kryptonite that left her in a coma for three days. When Alex initially ordered her sister to take two weeks off to recuperate, Kara was constantly fidgeting, wanting to get back to helping her city. But now she’s gotten used to the domesticity of it all. She enjoys the time with her little family of three, leisurely sipping on her coffee in the morning and family dinners every night. But, that's all about to change, come Monday morning Kara is back on Supergirl duty.
Down the hall behind closed doors, El sits in her swivel chair at her desk with notes strewn about and multiple windows open on her dual screen computer. While normal highschoolers are rushing to finish their homework for Monday, El, who had already completed the credit requirements to graduate and her homework for the entire semester, kept herself busy with independent learning and experiments. Kara and Lena were aware of El’s genius and even encouraged El to engage in independent learning, but the couple insisted the teen go to a normal highschool and have time to be a normal kid, something the couple had been denied.
Tonight though, El was working on a secret project. Usually El freely shared her ideas with her moms, especially Lena, who saw a lot of herself in the curious teen, but not tonight. El started working on her secret, and potentially dangerous, project right after Kara woke up from her coma.
El still remembers that dreaded night. Lena woke El up at 3 am with a shaky voice and unshed tears in her eyes, telling the teen that Jeju was hurt and they had to go to the DEO now. Lena and El drove silently but frantically to the DEO and were immediately led to the med bay. Kara’s lifeless body lying prone on a hospital bed below sunlamps, the medical team rushing about to save the fallen hero. El was numb, she stayed silent as Aunt Alex explained what happened and that they would do everything possible. El had never seen mom look so lost, so shattered. El didn’t shed a tear, not in front of her mom anyway, she had to be strong for her family now. Her powers were far from fully developing yet, but El knew she needed to step up for her mom and National City if anything happened to Supergirl. El felt the weight of the world on her shoulders for three whole days, until finally Kara woke. Even now, the teen has trouble sleeping through the night without the images tormenting her mind.
El vowed to prevent anything like that from happening again. She had to protect her family, and had to protect her jeju. The only way El saw to protect her family was to fully develop her powers, train like crazy, and... eliminate kryptonite as a weakness. El was disheartened when her initial research showed that it was 99% impossible, without full body armor, to eliminate the effects of kryptonite on an adult Kryptonian. But, that didn’t mean that El couldn’t try to eliminate or at least lessen her own future kryptonite weakness, after all El was a hybrid whose powers had only just started  presenting and she still had time considering she had only just turned 15. Of course, El had never been exposed to the substance but Alex guessed that once El’s powers were fully developed, kryptonite would take effect too.
As she continually researched, El developed and refined her theory for eliminating kryptonite weakness. Just like Rasputin and others throughout history had practiced mithridatism, El hypothesized that she could develop an immunity to kryptonite by self-administering non-lethal amounts to ultimately protect herself from kryptonite poisoning in the future. The “how” was El’s biggest obstacle. How was El going to get a supply of kryptonite and process it into liquid form that she could then inject into herself on a regular basis at increased volumes. El figured that kryptonite was similar to cyanide, in that even a small exposure could devastate her system - she would have to be extremely precise on how she determined the dose scale and the process would likely take months, if not years.
El was painfully aware that Kara would return to the DEO on Monday, and felt an urgency to find a way to start the immunization process soon. She became so desperate that she even hacked into Lena’s personal files. El had hacked Lena’s files before for purposes of a birthday surprise and hadn’t been detected, so it was relatively simple to do it again. Her mom had various reports and notes on kryptonite but nothing helpful for El’s purposes. Instead El delved deeper and accessed the research notes of the one person she knew who had the greatest expertise on kryptonite, her notorious Uncle Lex. El downloaded all of Lex’s notes onto a thumb drive and cleared any trace of herself from Lena’s system.
El had never met Lex. Sure, she knew he was a brilliantly insane scientist who hated aliens, but there had to be more to him, right? A few years ago, when El started taking an interest in experimental chemistry and biology she was naturally drawn to cutting edge studies, almost all of which had their origins with Luthor Corp. She became extremely curious about the Luthor side of her family much to Lena’s chagrin. El read everything she could on the Luthors’ work, and eventually asked her moms about it. Lena was slightly nervous by her daughter’s request but Kara insisted they be open with El about who her family is. Lena answered all of El’s questions, putting particular emphasis on the fact that El is her own person and not bound to the Luthor name as well as the importance of ethical experimentation. The old articles and interviews, and stories from her moms were helpful but never quite satisfied her curiosity about the Luthors. And now, with her project in full swing, El’s curiosity about Lex’s work peaked again.
For the past few nights El read and reread Lex’s notes, until she came across something that looked promising. The notes were from Lex’s early years at Luthor Corp, around the time he and Clark were friends. Lex was working on a cloning theory, which included sub-research on kryptonite effectiveness elimination. The theory was not based on use of armor or a suit, instead Lex’s notes were focused on measured exposures to kryptonite, similar to El’s theory. But, Lex’s notes were incomplete and left El with the same question she started with “how?”.
In order to test her theory, El would have to find kryptonite and figure out how to expose herself just enough to develop an immunity while avoiding irreversible damage, or worse, death. Lena had long since destroyed her supply of kryptonite as well as any supply L-Corp or its affiliates possessed. El could always try synthetic kryptonite, but red kryptonite had its own dangerous side effects and may not provide the immunity El needs. No, for the best possible chance, El needed pure kryptonite and a way to expose herself in measured increments. Once again the only person El could think of asking was her Uncle Lex, which is why, at almost 10:30pm on Sunday, El was figuring out how to get to Lex’s prison and ask the source himself for more information and, she hated to admit it, help.
Back in the kitchen, Kara decided to call it a night. The reporter closed her laptop and threw the empty bag of extra butter popcorn into the trash can, before stepping into Lena’s office to try and pull her workaholic wife away for some beauty rest. Kara stood in the CEO’s doorway watching as her intense and adorable wife worked away in total concentration.
“I can feel you staring.” Lena softly spoke, not even looking up from the papers in front of her.
“I can’t help myself.” Kara smirked and went around Lena’s desk to wrap her in a relaxed hug, resting her chin on Lena’s shoulder. “Time for bed babe.”
“Just a few more minutes, and I’ll be right in.” Lena replied.
Kara protested, “it's my last night free of Supergirl duties . . . thought you might want to take advantage while you still can.” Lena’s head perked up at the mention of their last uninterrupted night together. Spinning her chair to look at the blonde, Lena leaned upward and placed a soft kiss to Kara, just breezing over her lips teasingly before pulling away and getting up.
“Well I can’t possibly say no to that now can I.” Lena stood from her chair and wrapped her arms around her wife’s neck. Kara moved her hands to her wife’s waist, pulling her in close. She could stay in this moment forever, but she also couldn’t help but see from the corner of her eye the light on down the hall coming from El’s room.
“I hate to end this but I think El has developed your nighttime work habits.” Lena gazed down the hallway and sighed, she couldn’t deny it, El was certainly her daughter.
El heard two pairs of soft footsteps coming her way and panic immediately set in. She wasn’t used to keeping things from her parents and this was a particularly big thing. El quickly collected her notes, throwing them in a hidden desk drawer, closed the windows on her computer, and pulled the USB out of the export and threw it safely into her backpack. Just as a lite knock came at the door, El pulled out a book and opened it to a random page.
“Come in,” El let out a bit more breathless than intended. She tried to calm her heart rate which was still beating excessively fast. El knew her Jeju’s super hearing would pick up on her heart beat if she hadn’t already.
The door creaked open fully allowing both of her parents entrance. “What are you working on kiddo?” Kara looked at the open book on the desk as she placed both hands on El’s shoulders and bent to kiss El on the head. Lena leaned on the doorway, looking on with a soft loving expression.
El pushed up her glasses and replied, “nothing really, just some light reading before bed.” This time El’s body didn’t betray her and she was able to keep her heart at a normal rate. Given that she grew up with one mom who hid her identity from the world and another who grew up in the Luthor household, El shouldn’t be so surprised that she is somewhat of a natural at lying. She’ll have to be good given her plans for tomorrow and the coming weeks.
Kara looked down at the sheer girth of the book and in a mock suspicious voice said “Right, light reading about . . .” Kara peered down at the book as Lena walked over to join the pair “magnetohydrodynamics.”
“You know if you let me take some college courses I wouldn’t be so bored out of my mind that I have to read about MHD.” El gave a slight eyebrow raise, reminiscent of Lena’s signature facial expression.
Lena, leaning her hip against the desk, nodded approvingly, a slight smirk on her face, “Well, it's never too early to develop a well rounded understanding of physics. But being a kid is just as important.”
“I know, I know. Blah blah blah” El grumbled. “Make friends, go to football games, drink beer and be a normal teen.” El rolled her pale green eyes.
“We want you to do all of that, minus the beer,” Kara stated. “But seriously, are you at least trying to be social El?” Kara and Lena have had this conversation with El before. On several occasions El’s school had notified them that, while El excelled in academics, she didn’t engage with her classmates. It was only last month that Lena and Kara started considering putting El in therapy, thinking El’s lack of social engagement was due to social anxiety or bullying. Now, the couple, who had never taken therapy off the table, looked at their daughter with concern.
This was delving into a conversation El did not want to have tonight, or ever really. Every time her parents brought up the importance of El having a normal life, El had to hold herself back from screaming the obvious--she’s a Luthor and a half Kryptonian, nothing about her life will ever be normal. Instead El went for deflection. “Ever considered that I’m just too far advanced for such shenanigans?” El jokingly inquired.
Kara knew this method of deflection all too well from years spent with Lena. Something was clearly going on whether or not El wanted to discuss it. “Sweety, is it your powers? Anything new coming in?” Kara asked gently, sitting on El’s bed facing the teen. Kara couldn’t help but think back to a month earlier when she found the teen pale and in pain, curled up in the fetal position after an 'accidental' kryptonite exposure in the DEO’s classified weapons locker, which El had somehow managed to just 'wander' into. The scene broke Kara’s heart, and she wanted nothing more than to help El though this.
El didn’t answer. This was yet another conversation she didn’t want to have. “I know it can be overwhelming and confusing when they start to develop and a lot is changing.” Kara remembered the panic she experienced in her teenage years from over stimulation and fear of accidentally hurting people.  But, El just looked down at her hands, still silent.
“And you know that no matter what, we’re here to help.” Lena said, rubbing El’s shoulder. “Is the watch working ok?” Lena had worked nonstop the day after the incident in the weapons locker to develop the watch to prevent the teen from becoming too overwhelmed. Still no answer from El. The teen hated being reminded that she was going through what she referred to as “powers puberty.” Sure, the idea of powers was cool, and she already started showing signs of super speed and strength, but constantly being watched by her parents, Alex, Eliza, J’onn, and everyone else like she’s a ticking time bomb was a bit much sometimes.
“Yeah, it's fine.” El raised her wrist to show the small blue watch which Lena designed to dim El’s powers and make them easier for El to control when the time came. El hated the idea of being out of control but equally hated having to rely on technology to avoid being dangerous to others.
Her parents were patiently looking down at her, clearly not letting up. So, El used yet another method of avoidance she referred to as the “tired child” and gave a big yawn with droopy eyes.
Just as El hoped, Lena’s protective mom instincts gave into her tired child. “Alright sweetheart, I think it's time for you to get to bed.” Lena said as she brushed a stray piece of strawberry blond hair behind El’s ear. “We love you so much and you can always talk to us about anything.” Lena pressed a soft kiss to El’s forehead. “Good night my genius girl.”
“Night” El said in a drowsy voice, giving another small but genuine yawn this time.
“Love you Ellie. Sleep tight.” Kara said as she closed the door behind her and Lena.
Even though El was tired, she tossed and turned in her bed, debating tomorrow. Should she take the dive and talk to Lex? She’d have to keep her head level and not let him get to her. On top of that, should she really risk ruining her relationship with her parents? Sure El had kept secrets before, but only minor secrets, nothing as large as seeing her murderous uncle who certainly hated her half-kryptonian guts. El didn’t know about what tomorrow would bring as she  drifted into yet another night of restless sleep.

Realistically, today had been a good day. Most of Lena's technology worked perfectly, and any tweaks she needed to make went smoothly. Nia had bought her coffee. At a private moment around noon, Kara had kissed her cheek before flying off to do rounds on the city.
Lena, however, stands in the hallway of Kara’s apartment building wishing she could punch a hole or twelve into the drywall. Her keys - including the spare key to the loft that she had been given - fall out of her hand to the floor, and she feels the tension in her chest build.
It takes an eternal four seconds to pick them up, unlock the door, and step inside.
Kara stands by her kitchen sink, sipping from her purple water bottle. “Hi, baby.”
There is no will to look over and smile in response. Lena drops her purse on the floor and trudges straight to the bed. She falls face-first into it, feet dangling in the air.
All the blankets and abandoned clothes from this morning smell familiar. Lemon and woodsmoke – Kara. Lena likes to joke that the woodsmoke smell is because she flies so fast she burns up.
She can feel the furrow in her eyebrows, and what's worse is that she has no idea why it's there. It was a good day. She didn't even have to make a pit stop at Luthor Corp to put out any fires. There's nothing wrong.
The lack of explanation for her frustration makes her even more frustrated.
“Hey.” The mattress dips as Kara sits down. “Rough day?”
“No,” Lena says into blankets, suddenly near tears. She rolls over onto her back. “That's the thing, it was good. So why am I in meltdown territory?”
Kara’s hand is in her hair – soothing, home, safety. “I’m sorry. Let me help you?”
Lena nods, toeing off her shoes. They clatter to the floor. Kara offers her hands and pulls her into a sitting position. She helps Lena out of her day clothes and expertly offers the right pajamas. Good texture, good match, good breathability.
It takes a moment for her to start pulling them on as she prepares to go from stationary to in motion. The clean air surrounding her body after she changes helps to lessen the dread in her shoulders. Kara knows the little details to make her comfortable - hood up over her head, a fresh pair of socks. Once dressed, Lena flops over onto her side and curls up tight.
Kara leans over to kiss her head. She draws the curtains. The room becomes dark, and Lena feels her eyebrows relax. It’s a warm summer day outside, and the sun has made its presence clear. The darkness now dampening her vision offers peace.
“Do you want me around?” Kara asks, voice soft.
“Yes, please.” Lena sounds childlike. Her voice is fragile, muffled under her hands.
“Okay, scooch. Make room.”
Lena falls limp as a smile ghosts her face.
“Wow. Okay.” Kara heaves a dramatic sigh.
She feels Kara’s arms snake under her body. For a moment, she’s weightless, and then she’s gently set a foot or two over from where she was before. The mattress bounces again as Kara settles.
Lena reaches behind her to pull Kara's arm over her stomach and takes a deep breath.
“Good girl,” Kara says innocently.
“Hmm?”
“The deep breath. Proud of you.”
Lena’s body feels warm with love. “Thanks.”
The conversation lulls. Lena keeps breathing. Cool air keeps her temperature regulated under a hoodie and Kara’s body. Tension still weighs in her chest, but the accommodations matter. Kara doesn't even ask what she needs, she just knows. Lena barely has to move. She's surrounded by so much love.
“I wish I knew what was wrong.” she says into silence.
Kara hums, sounding sleepy and content.
“Like, nothing bad happened. I had a good day. Why do I feel like I want to implode?”
“You’re autistic, love.” Kara slips her hand beneath Lena’s hoodie to hold her tummy. “That happens. Sometimes there's no answer. I know you don't like that, I’m sorry.”
Lena hates how whiny she sounds. “But I want an answer! I want something to fix.”
“I know, baby.”
She sighs, then rolls over into Kara’s embrace. Having nothing to blame makes the situation feel unresolved. Agitation swirls in her gut, but she knows there's nothing to be done. Sometimes there are just days where the world is too much.
“Too much world.” Lena mumbles.
Kara puts a hand in her hair. “I know. I’m sorry. I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
As much as the lack of answer makes things unfinished, the hoodie helps. Having the hood up helps. She has clean socks and a dark room. Her girlfriend loves her, and is warm and solid against her.
Despite it all, she's loved. And that’s important too.
"Thank you." she whispers into darkness.
Kara scratches gently at her scalp. "Always, baby."
Always.
