I once saw a post saying that Jason probably calls Whizzer 'dad', and Marvin by his first name, and I’ve never agreed with something more in my life- He still calls him 'father' sometimes instead, but I think on a normal day it’s just ‘Marvin’. It seems to be pretty well agreed in the fandom that Whizzer was the best father figure of Jason before he died. So I think in the Modern Whizzer Lives AU he would start calling him 'dad' soon after the events of Falsettos. Marvin was absolutely jealous, but tried not to show it since things were just getting better between everyone, and especially since Whizzer was so excited when Jason called him dad for the first time. As for Mendel, Jason calls him 'aba' (correct my spelling if it’s wrong, that’s just what the internet told me) :)

Egotober Day 14: Time

Time was a curious thing, James decided as he looked at his pocket-watch and watched the seconds tick by. It was always moving forwards, but could go backwards, could be paused, sped up or slowed down. It could probably go sideways if someone really tried. But it had been here since the universe started, days, weeks, months, years passed without measurement because no one had condensed it down.

People were desperate for more of it too. Things done in the name of ‘getting more time’ or ‘don’t waste time’ truly puzzled the timekeeper. Because time wasn’t ever wasted, you didn’t waste time by sitting with a book, playing a game or laying in the sun. Nothing that someone did would waste time. It was either a blip of time to then, or they’d settle take things slower, appreciate it. And neither way was wrong.

Time could loop, each day was technically a loop it was just things happened differently each sunrise that kept people from referring to it like that. The concept of a loop made his fingers clench tighter around his watch. Navy eyes clenched shut and shuddered as he fought the memory off. Furious snarling twisted by static, claws sunk into his shoulder to stop him from moving. The metal of a knife at his throat. The pain of it sinking in and how his own scream cut off-

James snapped the lid of his watch closed to pull himself out of it and took a deep breath, he listened to it’s steady tick tock as he tried to keep himself calm. He was safe, he wasn’t hurt. Slowly he relaxed and looked around, blushed a bit as he realized he’d paused time in panic. He sighed and leant back on the couch and stared at the ceiling.

He rubbed the raven etched into the back of the lid absently. He had been young in his powers when he’d been grabbed by the glitch, he hadn’t had as much control as he did now. And even as loathe as he was to admit it and how sick he felt about using the knowledge, he’d learned some things. But the timekeeper swore to himself as he had more than once, that when the glitch next showed himself James wouldn’t run. He wouldn’t hide behind Marvin or Jackie.

He checked the clock and then his watch, it always kept the correct time no matter what timeline he was in, and he blinked. He snapped his fingers to get time moving again and got up to go to the kitchen. It was almost time for lunch and he knew the others would be hungry.

Maybe a basic one but I'd love to hear your thoughts/analysis on Whizzer Going Down (in trousers)

I'd love to share it!! I usually focus more on Marvin's relationship with the ladies than Whizzer in In Trousers, so tell me what I missed in the notes guys. Using my '85 script bc it is designed to be easier to follow and has more detail.

Starting as always with what William Finn has to say:

Whizzer Going Down is the song that rekindles Marvin's giddiness, which the ladies tell us he hasn't experienced in a long time. The last scene he was in was on his wedding day, the day of his "death," so presumably his giddiness was the part of him that died that day and has now been restored.

The first verse tells us how little he thinks of Trina, acting as if she's no more important than Whizzer's cooking. Food represents love and Marvin says that love isn't sex, so I think these first lines also mean that they have great sex but that Whizzer doesn't give him the type of love he craves. This verse also establishes the push and pull in their relationship--for every positive there's a drawback, and that's part of the fun.

(Side note- imo Whizzer doesn't really hate Trina, he's hates Marvin's life choices and family charades. Marvin can't tell the difference bc he thinks of Trina as a lifestyle, not a person.)

Slipping out at night every now and then is easier for Marvin than properly dealing with his situation, and their setup is easy for Whizzer too- he's scared of emotional intimacy and commitment, so some casual fun (or so he tells himself) is as easy as it gets. "I care" contrasts all of this, because caring is the antithesis of ease.

Sweating, nail biting, and smoking are all nervous tells--they are both anxious, but for different reasons. I think "and then he takes me in his arms, and then he lights another cigarette" is Whizzer being anxious about starting to fall for Marvin, esp considering he doesn't usually smoke and the intimate touches that precede it. (+ ofc the cigarette innuendo I didn't forget lol)

Not sure what lying flat like a bad idea or the colors of his surroundings signify (pls tell me in the notes!!) but fighting is certainly a theme for them. Both fighting and giddiness are described as forms of passion in the source material.

"I think I'll die, die, die," reminds me of Marvin's first death in The Wedding Song, but this time it's a 'little death' that marks the beginning of his new life.

The scat break is when the ladies fully interrupt Marvin's activities, I think this is Marvin's guilt preventing him from moving on. It also explains his earlier line "I'd like so much to whizz without them there."

I think this is most of them. Anyway, not enough in trousers stuff on tumblr, and i love it too much. Def the most underrated of the Marvin Trilogy.

Marvin Can't Cook

Like he can't cook for shit. Everyone thought the only reason he made Trina/Whizzer do the cooking was because of his internalized gender roles and homophobia, and while that was definitely a part of it, there was a bit more to it than that. Of course, after he and Whizzer got back together in Act 2, their relationship was much healthier and he was working on these issues. So once he tried to make dinner for Whizzer instead of the other way around. Whizzer appreciated it at first. That is until he walked into the kitchen while Marvin was cooking and found him doing everything, even the simplest of things, wrong.

Whizzer: *Walks in* How’s it going in he- What is that?

Marvin: What's with the tone? It's coleslaw.

Whizzer: No, that’s a cole-slaughter, who taught you how to chop vegetables? Your hand isn’t even in claw position, you’re gonna chop your finger off. Here, just let me-

Moments later, he realized there was also a literal fire in the oven. Needless to say, it was the first and last time he ever let Marvin cook anything unsupervised. But to make up for it, Marvin did still help with other things he would've previously thought of as women's work, like washing dishes and doing laundry (although Whizzer did have to firmly remind him how to separate colors from lights a few times before it got through to him).

William B - Shorthair #73! Once again, the tired eyes convinced me.

Annette B - Persian #217! I was originally gonna make her a shorthair, but she just screams longhair cat to me!

Marvin - Scottie #23! I chose a Scottie cause Scottie dogs are known to be feisty, stubborn, but protective! Also he gets cool accessories cause Marvin’s the coolest here 😎

Elliot - He’d be this specific model of deer (reindeer?)! I couldn’t get the idea of him being a deer out of my head the moment I realized he looked like a deer in the headlights (BLINK ELLIOT BLINK!!!), but I wasn’t vibing with any of the regular deer and thats when I discovered these models! Also I couldn’t find the specific number because ofc I couldn’t 💀

Katherine - Maltese #79! At least I think its 79, this dog and another spaniel come up with the #79??? Anyways, she’d be this cutie!

Ben - So he’d either be a regular hedgehog…or this silly one with hair. Get it? Cause of his ponytail?

Kendo - Husky #174! He is so husky to me…

Emma - Puppy #1013! And her mama would be husky #1012 💖

Carlos - Sheepdog #1077! Too perfect! And YES, he needs the flower in his hair!!!!! I have this one 🤭

Tyrell - Jaguar #1419! Honestly, it’s another case of this specific LPS just reminds me of him! Plus, I was thinking of how there’s so many videos of jaguars lounging followed by them being expert hunters and Tyrell is a relaxed guy, but is obviously greatly skilled!

Nikolai - He was so hard to find an lps for. Looking through the different models and designs, but I landed on cat #9 (the hair sorta matches his) or Dane #184 (cause Nikolai’s second name is “The White Wolf” And I wasn’t too pleased with assigning him a cat)

Mikhail - Mikhail was also hard to choose for. Maybe a German Shepard or a Boxer?? But ofc white/grey

ik its probably just blocking convenience, but when they take the gravestone out of the cube, mendel beckons jason to help him. it is mendel and jason who carry the gravestone. marvin stays in his spot crying while trina actively distances herself. charlotte and cordelia stand on their own, further from the group. ofc when they put it down, everyone moves in. but think about how everyone would be after whizzers death. think about how mendel might be the only person who can help jason carry the weight of whizzer dying.

- they’re about to marry their best friend. YOU! the most BEAUTIFUL GIRL/PERSON IN THE WHOLE WORLD

- when they’re changing into their suit/with their groomsmen (a few guy colleagues and some of their guy family members) sloan is getting pep talks and words of encouragement from everyone in that room. not a single bad vibe is in the room!

- wedding theme!: whatever you want it to be. a classic, white wedding? you got it! gothic/vampire? hell yeah!

- ^ but! with your choice of theme; sloan also has some huge crystals (that match the theme ofc) that they’ve gotten from expeditions for table decoration!

- the location was kinda on sloan, they picked where they wanted to have the wedding BUT! they made sure YOU were okay with it before making it the finalized decision. if you didn’t like the location, don’t worry! they have like A MILLION MORE

- everyone in both of your families helped pay for the wedding (if needed), like your parents paid for your dress/suit and sloan’s parents paid for their suit

- when they were at the alter, they were sooo nervous, their hands playing with the rings on their fingers and the bracelets that were around their wrists to calm their nerves

- but when you walked down the isle with your father/father figure, all their nerves just melted away.

- you looked so GOOD in their eyes! their heart was racing, their eyes got watery, their face got hot (they cried) (you did too)

- your vows were pretty standard (if there’s spanish vows then yall did that too!)

- but when yall had your first kiss; you know this sucker dipped you into the kiss, twirling you like in those cheesy romance movies (LIKE IN TANGLED AT THE END)

- and now the reception.

- for the food a verity of sloan’s family meals and your family meals, most of them being hand made to avoid a lot of cost

- alcohol/champagne obviously. all the adults are either drunk asf or tipsy (if you have family who smokes/does drugs, it’s totally up to you if you want that in your environment!! i will not be saying anything about that because it’s very different for everyone)

- the younger kids who can’t drink get something fizzy! like apple cider or something!

- father daughter/mother son dance to whatever song you’d like:)
