How I THINK the tbhk characters would feel about imaginary numbers

Hanako- “isn’t this math why are there letters” ass kid

Nene- ????? So confused, they give her a head ache

Kou- thinks that the one 3D graph he was shown was cool looking, does not get it

Aoi- Gets them, does not like them, I think they light a rage in her soul more than they should

Mitsuba- why would I have an opinion on a math concept???? What??

Akane- Enjoys math and imagery numbers more than one probably should (got sad when the teacher said to ignore them because we don’t go into 3D in highschool(and honestly disappointed in himself that he thinks there so cool and fun))

Teru- can use them, understands them, thinks they’re difficulty is overhyped. Does not think about them after they are one the test

Tsukasa- “WHAt????!?!?? Can I eat it!!?!!?”

Natsuhiko- “How are numbers even imaginary… what does that even mean??”

Sakura- could learn them and use them, but does not care to bother herself with that

5. Are there areas of math that you enjoy? What are they?

I don't like to get TOO specific on here, just for privacy reasons, but broadly speaking the stuff I like is in these areas:

I probably should have left machine learning out of that lol. I had it in my head that this was "what areas of math are you interested in," and I haven't actually done any machine learning stuff yet. It's more something I want to learn about (to understand better what's going on with the AI boom & because it'll probably be relevant to my career).

There's also a lot of stuff I don't know much about but think is neat. Like topology. I haven't actually taken a course on it, so everything I know about it comes from the videos Cliff Stoll did with Numberphile (plus it being graph theory's weird cousin).

62. Are there any non-interesting numbers?

I had to think about this one for a while. We need some sort of definition, right? Let a number be interesting if some person at some point in time has been interested in it. Not the best definition because idk how to define or quantify interest, but let's go with it.

If we count being interested in a set as being interested in all the numbers in it, then all numbers are interesting, because if someone has bothered to define the set, then they must have been at least a little interested in it, right?

If we DON'T count interest in sets and are only talking about specific numbers, then there must be infinitely many non-interesting numbers, because there have been finitely many human beings and each human being only has time to think about a finite number of numbers in their life, so there are infinitely many numbers no one has ever spared a single thought for. Which is maybe kind of sad? Or not, idk, maybe they like their privacy.

This is actually a bad definition, I just realized, because very large primes are clearly of interest to a lot of people, and there are infinitely many undiscovered ones out there. Oops. Let's go with the set version and say all numbers are interesting.

We could go a step further and say some numbers are more interesting than others, and define interesting-ness as the total number of times a number has been thought about. I think the MOST interesting number in that case would be 1, because everyone who knows what a number is has thought about 1.

If we're just talking about numbers I personally don't find interesting... idk, 46 is kind of boring? I also don't really care about the complex numbers, but they have so many uses that I don't think I could honestly say they're non-interesting. They're just not my thing.

as a note, i say things more generally.

something i didn't put in nonobject but could have been put there is that they don't usually have faces nor limbs. though, they can definitely have limbs. nonobjects could be just about anything, as long as they aren't objects... like, a regular human for example. those notably have faces and limbs.

nonobjects do, by definition, include algebralien but i don't think it's very useful to talk about them as a group including algebraliens. unless like, apart from objects.

what counts as an "object" might be vague, especially dealing with more abstract things. for example, take a scribble. is that an object? it might depend more on show or interpretation. does Black Hole from BFDI count as a nonobject? maybe, maybe not.

also, there are algebralien-style nonobjects. which have the algebralien style, but are not objects. for example, a human or a turkey.

I hate all this talk about “girl math” and “girl dinner”. The way it’s described actually diminishes the girls’ intelligence, and it’s not a funny, quirky thing. Also having what is essentially a midafternoon snack for dinner is reinforcing bad eating habits

How i feel in every math class

One of the really frustrating things is that most outside people focus of the obvious mental symptoms when talking about DID and OSDD and it's just.... Frustrating?

Like- no one talks about the constant headache. No one talks about the exhaustion that comes with constantly fighting brain fog and dissociation. No one talks about how isolating all this shit is and how most social interactions feel like a game of mental 4D chess where one side is played simultaneously by five people all with differing opinions on what the strategy should be.

I deal with all of this near constantly and I am somehow one of the more functional systems I know.

I love how vague this question is without any context! (If I answer this in a way you weren't expecting, do let me know.)

On the rare occasion that I'm writing longhand, I prefer pens. My beloved workhorse is the Pilot G-2 07 in blue. I'd love the Uni-ball Signo UM-151 a lot more if it had a .7mm version, because it comes in my favorite ink color: blue-black.

(I won't talk about my small but potent fountain pen collection because we'd be here all day.)

Pencils are for math. Specifically, mechanical pencils with .5mm lead graded 2B and paired with the only eraser I really trust: the Pentel Clic.
