Saw someone say that maybe Kipperlilly isn’t mad at Riz but mad for him and it is now adopted as my headcanon. First day what happened? Riz got bullied. For being a small, dorky try hard and then stuck with the nickname the Ball. A nickname his friends still call him. Kipperlilly and Riz are foils. Small, rogue try hards she even gets people botching her fucking name like him. In her eyes Riz isn’t their friend he’s (to take a qoute from baron) a funny little thing that finds clues.
I’m pacing and clawing my cage
“You seeing your favorite jacket on someone else and wondering is that how it looks on me” that’s how she fucking feels. Every time she sees a kid call him the ball she’s seeing herself being treated the same way. She’s mad that he’s not mad. I know her stance on fairness feels like it’s full of shit but im convinced it didn’t start that way. They’re following Ankarna. And she didn’t start with rage. She started with justice.

Cassie Sandsmark they could never make me hate you. Even if they’re trying. Really hard
Also idk if Greta and Cassie were technically roommates at Saint Elias’s but who else would it be. They’re buddies. Bonds forged in Yj are unbreakable unfortunately

I need advice.
I’m a white intern working in a mostly white southern(ish) high school. Students of Color number at under 2%, perhaps even lower. It’s a very white, rural community - I grew up in a fairly mixed, suburban northern community, and part of my family is Black.
Several of my white students say rude things to my Students of Color. I’ve told them to knock it off *as appropriately as I can* but I’m probably one of the few adults that actively discourage that behavior.
I don’t want to let this shit fly under the radar, but I also know that if an adult of authority *who will only be here for a couple more weeks* interferes, and then doesn’t stick around, it could make things worse. Additionally, I know these kids are probably very very very used to this ‘system’ and that making a short-term change could be more harmful than helpful.
I asked one of my senior students after a very racist incident *where she was laughing along with the perpetrator but I told him to stop anyway* that I can move him, or her, so she could be more comfortable (admin either does nothing or slaps wrists, especially for seniors). She said it was fine and that he was always like that.
I must emphasize, I think they were bantering (they talk so much I think they consider each other friends?), but it was also wayyy fucking out of line, especially in a school setting. And the guy says so much out of line shit I’m surprised he isn’t rocking a full set of dentures to replace the teeth he ought to have lost by now.
Another student took me up on my offer to move people, but I ended up moving him, which sucks because he was the victim in this situation. Unfortunately, I have to keep his aggressors in their spots, as they are highly rowdy in all the ways and require a lot more supervision than he did. And the class is really full. These were also all freshmen, so I wouldn’t be surprised if that affected the victim’s reaction.
So I’d really appreciate advice as to whether I should let it be, or continue as is, or step it up even more, from People of Color in largely white, especially rural, communities. Like any advice from current or previous educators, especially Educators of Color would be appreciated, but specifically southern/rural ones would be wonderful. I’m going to talk to my family members about it, but they’ve lived in more Northern settings their entire lives and they may have less … applicable (?) experience to the situation.
Again, I’m an intern, I’m going to only be there until winter break 2024, and I don’t want to fuck things up for these kids in the long run with my northern ally ‘sensibilities’. Thank you!
#education#help#advice#educators of color#students of color#academia#slightly more context: the senior was a Black girl. there are not a lot of Black students but there’s multiple of them from different#families (though I also tutor her little brother). so she may have community to fall back upon and that might feel like enough for her#the freshman boy is mixed Asian and as far as I can tell is the only Asian kid currently in this high school#since we’re in Appalachia of course a lot of people say shit like ‘my great grandmother was Cherokee’ (apologies to the Cherokee community#but I’m quoting these people) but some of my students are much more tan and experience a bit of colorism. again I try to shut that down but#idk how far to take it. the one girl who is definitely Indigenous (I’m not going to specify further because it’s a small community) doesn’t#seem to be treated negatively for it and seems quite proud so I’m glad for her#but she also passes as one of the tan students so idk if she’s just comfortable bringing it up around me and it doesn’t come up near#racist students or what.#more context I forgot to bring up: I’m pretty sure most if not all of the Black students are mixed or have mixed parents. so they may#have white family members that make this system of poor treatment seem okay? or white family members#who help compensate for the racist people in the community?#I really don’t fucking know and I really don’t want to make things worse for anyone#getting ‘aggressive’ protection from a student intern may NOT be helpful#idk#thank you for reading this far

🐅 for Sansa!
(lesbian with comphet aha)
Uuhhhhhh there’s also a lot for this one I adore the starklings. these ones might be controversial I know Arya and Sansa are heavily debated character on Tumblr but as a lover of both I’m gonna go for it.
Sansa is very much a people pleaser which is a symptom of her growing up in a society where women are expected to be perfect wives and mothers. She’s a child whose been forced to play the role of an adult bride at the end of the day, and I feel like a lot of people are very harsh on her without realizing that she is literally a child. I do think she’s quite similar to the quieter, more diplomatic Ned, while Arya takes after the independent, strong-willed Catelyn, but that doesn’t mean that Sansa doesn’t try to appeal to her mother. Her calling Jon her bastard brother is her doing just that. Her and Arya are a reversed version of me and my little sister (me being more like Arya and my sister being more like Sansa) so I very much have many MANY feelings about these characters and I can’t put them all down but hopefully this makes sense 😭😭😭 basically I think a lot of Sansa’s behaviour is a defense mechanism and symptom of being brought up in an unhealthy society and that she’s a child who deserves sympathy in her story. She’s smart and she’s a people pleaser and she’s scared and she’s a little girl who is being preyed upon by almost every man in her life from her betrotheds attack dog to her mothers childhood companion!!! She is a child!!!!

The fact that G3 CAN make black character deisgns..
And then made Clawdeen the most white washed version of herself is fucking evil actually.
You're telling me..Venus looks GOOD and actually looks black coded but the ONE(1) black character we had.
Is light skin, mixed, her personality is softer and more watered down and her original style is washed out??
Fuck you. Tf.
Clawdeen should've gotten the same treatment, but noooo let's make her mixed despite. Already have two latina(? Corrent term??) characters (Lagoona and Skellita) so..why couldn't Clawdeen be kept BLACK? Why did she need to be mixed for her to be the main character?? It's fucking gross and weird.

Now I liked some of the pj shit but the anti blackness in there bugged tf out of me. And then the cane chronicles (Egypt mythology) was constantly having the white passing girl going "ugh Im jealous of my brother bc ppl can tell he's black" and the writing was trash so it pissed me off. I'm not surprised you didn't like them ngl.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 what's crazy is again, I didn't get that far! I was told they were Black, was reading and was like... "Mm... No, this doesn't seem like it to me." I saw a white girl with the Egyptian powers I always wanted and was like "I thought this was supposed to be about me for once. I don't relate to this, and I'm not gonna force myself." So everything I found out afterwards has just added fuel to the fire. But it's honestly a great example of how people can write white characters with so much intent, get to their Black ones and just... Drop the ball. Assuming they ever picked it up.

thinking about the fairy tale trope of a kiss from your true love having magical properties and how often these kisses are used to wake up characters who are asleep or in some state of suspended animation or give them back something they lost. thinking about fitz walking around half-forged and detached from his own emotions until the fool kisses him and gives him back all of those memories and emotions effectively “waking him up” again and giving him back something he'd lost. and by thinking i of course mean i am screaming incoherently.

On both a watsonian and doylist level Dick Grayson is white passing
#Doylist: they only seem to remember he’s Romani when they have something weird and fetishy to say about it. The way he’s drawn in canon is#very much white passing most of the time most people who are not tuned into comic lore are not going to perceive him as a poc#Also just the fact that he was written as a white guy for like 60+ years does still have a lot of bearing on things#For example I remember seeing someone trying to have a conversation about how it’s weird that dc has this trend of having conniving#vixen seductresses of color who can’t help themselves from throwing themselves at/sexually assaulting white men and that maybe we should#engage with those stories more critically and someone chimed in with ‘well actually Dick is Romani’ 🤨. Girl you know damn well that’s not#what was going on there be serious bffr 😩#Watsonian: as much as I love and enjoy hitting characters with the melanin beam in canon he’s depicted as white passing most of the time#and it is reasonable to assume that he would go through life in American society being perceived as a white guy and most people#would not know or be able to guess his ethnicity at a glance unless he told them. Which could be an interesting thing to explore for his#character but then again we have to ask if dc is actually interested in writing him as Romani all of the time or only sometimes#tangent note- another thing you could explore with him is the differences in being Romani in America vs Europe#The American national consciousness is not all that aware of Roma people though obviously anti-Roma sentiment is still going to be a thing#here meanwhile from an outsider perspective it seems like the fastest way to activate the dormant hitler particles in the average#European is to mention Roma people so there’s definitely a difference there that could be explored#Dc#leaving character tags off of this lest I be slayed in the streets for this. Though I think everything said here is fairly reasonable
