It's my birthday so I'll take advantage of the good day and allow myself to post some sv and legends races ultra-doodles (those ones in which you can barely see what's going on but I get it so it's fun to make)

I might not be making much sense, but oh well, here's the doodles

(sorry for the amount of mixing Spanish and English)

Arven Fluff Alphabet

finally more arven content! thanks to the anon who requested this (sorry for the wait homie)

mostly wholesome fluff, a little bit of angst regarding arven's backstory, sv spoilers and gn! reader

A = Activities (what do they like to do with their s/o? how do they spend their free time?)

It goes without saying but he loves cooking with you and for you. Even if you just sit on his bed while and chat with him while he makes you lunch, it makes him so happy to be doing his favourite thing with his favourite person. If you do want to take part, he’ll gladly make you his little sous-chef, or teach you how to cook if you haven’t before. Things get a little chaotic in the kitchen when you’re taking part, but that’s the best part.

Although the two of you have already explored Paldea together, he still loves when you two head out on an adventure (that includes a picnic obviously) where you wander around, taking in the beauty scenery, battling Pokémon, gathering ingredients, holding hands and enjoying each other’s company.

While neither of you particularly consider studying as a ‘fun’ activity, it is much easier when you study together. The two of you hunker down in one of your dorms and spend the afternoon making notes, helping each other solve equations, understand concepts and badly practise languages. He may be a year ahead of you, but you have some overlap in classes, and you still do your best to help and encourage him with stuff that’s above your grade-level.

He likes gaming with you too! He’s not a big gamer or anything, but he likes when you bring your switch over and you two play Mario Kart or Smash Brothers together. It’s usually fun and silly, but both of you can be quite excitable and competitive!

B = Beauty (what do they admire about their s/o? what do they think is beautiful about them?)

Arven really admires your loyalty and kindness. When the two of you first met, he wasn’t the best, most considerate person, he wasn’t used to talking to people, and he was wrapped up in worry about Mabostiff at the time, but that doesn’t excuse his less than stellar behaviour. But still, you helped him, even before you knew why he needed your help.

In terms of your looks…. Arven thinks you’re so damn CUTE! Cuter than a freshly kneaded fidough (sweeter too). Your eyes, your smile, it just makes his heart melt every time. He can never me mad at that cute face.

C = Comfort (how do they help their s/o when they feel down? what makes them feel better?)

His immediate response is to wrap you up in a big, warm, tight hug. He’s not really sure how to verbally comfort someone (and he’s not going to talk to you like he talks to his dog) so he just hugs you close, gently holding your face to his chest and brushing your hair, letting you know you have someone there to protect and comfort you. He won’t say much at all, mainly because he doesn’t know what to say. But he’ll listen. And sometimes that’s all you need.

Plus, you can’t go wrong with a homecooked meal or a baked treat!

He’s not used to being comforted by people. The comfort he’s used to receiving is Mabostiff slumping against him, and he has to wipe away his own tears. Having you comfort him is jarring at first, it’s alien to him, but he settles into it. He likes when you play with his hair, that really relaxes him. Since you’re a person, you actually understand what he’s saying, so it makes him feel better to know you comprehend what’s troubling him.

He also really loves when you just talk to him. Just saying soft and sweet comforting things to him. It’s a small gesture but it means the world.

D = Dreams (how do they picture their future with their s/o and in general?)

Although it’s a recent decision, he is very set on the idea of being a chef, and he’s already taking steps to reach his goal. He’s not sure if he wants to work in a restaurant, or open his own, or run a little stall or food truck, or even in the school cafeteria. As long as he’s cooking though, he’ll be content.

In terms of getting married and having kids, he, he doesn’t want to think about that right now. You’re both still very young, and he has a lot of… complicated feelings around the subject (rightfully so). But what he does know, is that he wants you by his side, always.

He is not looking forward to graduating before you. He’s gonna miss you so much :( even though you’ll still be able to hang out.

E = Equal (are they the dominant one in the relationship or are they rather passive?)

While he does have his bursts of assertion, it’s typically you. You suggest dates, you initiate affection, you steer the ship so to speak. He likes it though, he’s never been in a relationship before so he doesn’t know what he’s doing... but he also likes how he can be the one in charge if he wants, and you have no issue.

F = Fight (how quick are they to forgive their s/o? what are they like in an argument? who says sorry first?)

Arven isn’t the most emotionally mature person. Sure, he had to grow up faster than most, but he doesn’t have the best approach to conflict thanks Sada and Turo. He’s still a teenage boy too.

So, when he argues, he has a habit of blaming the other party, even if he’s at fault. He shouts and flails his arms and pulls at his hair, it can actually be quite scary, considering his build (but of course, he would never lay a hand on you.)

As a result of his upbringing (or lack thereof), it can take him a while to forgive you, even longer to admit fault. He will simmer with his anger by himself, sulking, until his love for you slowly starts to creep back in and soften him up again. He loves you, he misses you… why is he making this harder for the both of you?

He is getting better though.

G = Gifts (what kind of things do they gift to their s/o? are they spontaneous or do they stick to special events like anniversaries?)

When Arven gives gifts, he doesn’t realise that’s what he’s doing. He just thinks he’s looking out for you. It’s typically some kind of homemade snack, or battle items, or school supplies, or even a cute plush or keyring. If he thinks you might need something, or it’ll make you smile, it’s worth every penny/ounce of effort.

For something like your birthday or anniversary, he puts a lot of thought into getting you something you’d like. Typically, instead of getting you one big present, he gets you lots of small ones, basically making you up a goodie bag of thoughtful items.

H = Heart Eyes (what are they like in love? is it obvious to others? how do they express their love? do they brag about their s/o to others?)

Even before you were together, it was so obvious that he was in love with you Penny had a field day fr. All blushy and happy, constantly thinking and talking about you. He constantly wants to touch your hand and squeeze it. And when you do get together, it’s basically the same, but now he CAN hold your hand.

He’s not super great with words or affection, but those little hand squeezes and big hugs and that look full of adoration tells you all you need.

Arven is your biggest fan hands down, he thinks you’re the coolest thing since sliced bread. He doesn’t even realise he’s bragging, he just loves gushing about how awesome you are <3

I = Impression (what first attracted them to their s/o? how accurate was their first impression to how their s/o actually is?)

He didn’t realise it at first, so oblivious to his own feelings, but he thought you were so cute. Just so cute and pretty. His brain rationalised it into you being helpful and trustworthy (which to his credit, you are)

J = Jealousy (do they get jealous easily? how do they deal with it?)

ARVEN IS SO JEALOUS! Jealous of literally anybody who interacts with you. And he was like that in your friendship too. You saw how he bickered with Nemona over which one of them was your best friend. It just extends into your relationship.

When he feels particularly threatened, he gets a little huffy and sulky, grabbing your hand, urging you away from the person, sometimes even standing between you and them. He’s not the kind of person who’ll blame you for his jealousy, nor will he stop you meeting up with people he’s jealous of.

His jealousy is born from insecurity and his abandonment issues. Both his parents, people who were supposed to love him unconditionally, left him at different points in his life, and he is so worried you’ll do the same.

K = Kiss (are they a good kisser? what was their first kiss like? where do they kiss the most?)

Arven gives two kinds of kisses; tender, brief, almost unsure kisses, and abrupt, passionate, nigh on suffocating kisses.

Your first kiss was the former. His heart was thumping in his chest as he held your hands in his own, blushing softly as he looked down at you before leaning in, and pressing a brief, but gentle kiss against your lips, smiling all the while. Afterwards, he turned ever redder and started apologising. Poor baby

He loves to kiss your all over your face and your hands. Especially your hands. He likes absentmindedly kissing your knuckles and fingertips.

L = Little Things (what are the little things they love about their s/o? are they attentive?)

He loves your smile, the twinkling in your eyes, how close you like to stand and sit next to him, when you brush his hair away from his face.

He especially loves all the small things you do to make his life easier, like organising his bag, or helping him with his notes or looking after Mabostiff.

M = Marriage (do they want to get married? how do they propose? what would the wedding be like?)

Arven… Arven doesn’t know if he wants to get married, you can blame his parents’ failed relationship for that. And you’re both still so young.

He does think about it sometimes though, it’s not a definite no from him. He does like the idea of setting your love in stone, and having a very small wedding, even in a courthouse, could be nice.

If he were to propose, it would be at home. He’d make your favourite meal, you’d eat it by candlelight, and then he’d ask you. Though in reality, you’re more likely to propose.

N = Nicknames (what do they call their s/o? what do they get called?)

He still calls you ‘little buddy’ because that’s who you are! You’re his little buddy and his s/o and he LOVES you. Your partner should be your best friend, right?

Though, in private, he likes to call you ‘Honeybun’ because you’re just as sweet as one! Penny heard him call you ‘Honeybun’ once and she died.

You sometimes call him ‘Arv’ or ‘Arvy’, and even nicknames like ‘babe’ and ‘sweetie’. He gets very flustered when you call him the last two. In a good way

O = Open (do they have secrets they hide from their s/o? is it easy for them to share?)

You probably know more about Arven than he does about himself. Being friends first, you were there for the whole journey saving Mabostiff, and your adventure to Area Zero, where you learned more about his parents, and their fates. So, Arven really doesn’t have much to hide from you anymore.

In saying that, he’s still not the best with his emotions, and he tends to keep them to himself. You are pretty adept at noticing when he’s brooding, and you are always happy to lend an ear, so you do find out what’s going on in the end.

P = Pancakes (are they a good cook? how often do they cook for their s/o? breakfast in bed or fancy dinner dates?)

We all know Arven has an exceptional cooking skill. And he loves to cook too, for you specifically. It makes him feel needed, like a provider, cooking for you. You rarely eat cafeteria food now, when Arven makes you a delicious breakfast, scrumptious lunch and mouth-watering dinner, all out of the kindness of his own heart and a few kisses <3

When you do go out for food, you tend to just go to a little café or a food stall, nothing fancy, but that’s not the point! The point is the two of you enjoying some good grub as you spend time together!

Q = Quirk (a random quality/ability that is beneficial to their relationship.)

Arven runs hot, and he dresses warmly too. So, if you’re ever cold, you basically have your own portable heater (that cooks (and cuddles!)). He can just wrap himself around you in a big hug to heat you up in no time!

R = Romance (how romantic are they? are they cliché or creative?)

Arven is trying his best to be romantic, because he thinks you deserve it, he’s just not 100% sure how to go about it. Cooking for you is romantic, but he doesn’t see it like that, ironically enough.

He just gets you little gifts and hopes it’ll be enough for you.

S = Sleep (who falls asleep first? do they need their s/o close to them? do they have any bad habits?)

You two don’t normally sleep next to each other, only when camping and occasionally a nap when you’re supposed to be studying. Usually, it’s you who falls asleep first, and you blame Arven for being so warm and squishy, however if you are playing with his hair, he will be out like a light.

When you do sleep next to each other, he loves to cuddle you the entire time, having you next to him makes him feel so content.

And of course, Mabostiff inevitably joins you two, by slumping on top of you both and crushing you a little but he’s still the best doggie

T = Thrill (do they need to spice up their relationship with new things or do they stick to a routine? how often do they do new things?)

Arven actually really likes the routine and mundanity of your relationship. After all, he’s not really used to such stability, so he finds comfort in it. Not to mention, being in a relationship is still so new to him, he doesn’t want to overwhelm himself by going too fast or trying new things.

However, if you want to try something, he will probably join you, after some convincing of course or just grabbing his hand and dragging him to it lol

U = Unity (did their s/o change them somehow, or the other way around? what traits do they share?)

Your friendship, and now, relationship, showed him that he didn’t have to do it alone. That he could reach out and get support and companionship. That he deserved love and care and kindness. And he is endlessly grateful for that.

V = Value (how important is their relationship to them? what is it worth compared to other things in their life?)

With the amount of comfort and happiness you’ve brought him, you are probably the most important living thing to him, alongside Mabostiff. You really do fill every day with joy and light, even just a touch of your hands makes him grin like a schoolkid with a crush (which is partially true)

W = Wild Card (a random fluff headcanon.)

He has become your guineapig (would that be a dedenne in this context?) for hairstyling. He loves it, of course. He doesn’t care if he looks silly afterwards, he loves the feel of your hands on his hair.

X = XOXO (do they like to kiss and cuddle? are they upfront about their relationship or rather shy when in public?)

This boy is so incredibly touch starved… all he ever wants to do is hug you close to him, burying his face in your hair and inhaling your scent OR he wants to put his hands on your cheeks and kiss you all over your cute face until your giggling and telling him to stop.

The feel of your softness and warmth against him just makes him all gooey inside, sometimes he just likes slumping himself against you, just to feel you.

So awkward and flustered, he doesn’t really engage in PDA, aside from holding your hand. Occasionally, he will give you a quick kiss in public to say goodbye, but he usually ushers you off to the side to do so.

Y = Yearning (how do they cope when they spend time away from their s/o? do they miss their s/o?)

He does not cope well with your absence. With the two of you being so young, your relationship so new, and basically spending all your time together, it’s inevitable that he gets attached. So, when you’re away on the Kitakami trip, he falls into a slump, missing his little buddy terribly. Every time his phone goes off and it’s not a text from you, his heart breaks a little.

He makes sure to call you every day, trying to hide how much he misses you even if it’s obvious. He doesn’t want you to feel bad for this awesome opportunity, but it’s hard for him without his honeybun!

He will smother you with hugs and kisses when you get back and he will cry

Z = Zoo (do they have pets? do they want some in the future?)

Of course, Mabostiff is your 3’7” 61kg 10+ year old baby. He’s definitely treated more like a pet than the rest of your Pokémon.

With the exception of you -aidon, who Arven has slowly learned to tolerate and love­ over the last few months.

Arven x Reader: Painful Loss

If you have not gotten to The Great Crater of Paldea, skip this story to avoid any spoilers. You would think Professors Sada and Turo had left Arven behind when he was really little (until he first got Maschiff; now Mabostiff), but until the moment came that Arven knew the real truth; taking place in Area Zero.

You had met with whom you though were Professor Sada and Professor Turo, but it seems these two were both AI copies of the original professors. You were told the original professors died protecting Koraidon and Miraidon’s lives. You wondered if Arven should know why he hadn’t seen them in such a long time, but he was busy with fending off the paradox Pokémon outside the lab.

The two robots then initiated a battle with you, which was a breeze to you since you had your party Pokémon at stronger levels. You defeated them both, then Nemona, Arven and Penny entered. “(Y/N)!” Arven called out. “What’s this?!” Penny asked. “Did you already beat all the baddies without me?!” Nemona asked. Arven then looks over at the AI robotic copies of his mom and dad, took a few steps forward and asked demandingly, “Ok, out with it, both of you…who are you, really?!” You all watched the two robots as they were twitching funny. AI Sada said, “Th-thank you…for…everything… The time machine…has finally… They have…finally…been stopped…” “You’re really not…my parents, are you?” Arven asks. “Oh…,” AI Turo says, “Look…how big you’ve grown… So…p-proud of you…our…” As Arven listened, his expression changed into shock. Then AI Sada said, “….Sorry…you were alone s-so…long…Arve-” “M-Mom?! Dad?!”

The system had failed and the time machine detected a threat. That’s when the robots apologized before bringing out Koraidon and Miraidon. You let yours out, too, to battle them since the rest of your Poké Balls, along with Penny, Nemona and Arven’s, were locked.

When the two opposing legendaries were defeated, the robots had finally told the truth about Sada and Turo’s deaths to Arven before bidding farewell and disappearing into the eye. Arven felt heartbroken watching the robots of his own mother and father go; after hearing he was now an orphan. You looked at him; he had tears streaming from his eyes. You then placed a hand on his shoulder. “Arven…” you spoke calmly to him. Arven looks at you, then you wipe his tears away with your hand and tell him, “I’m so sorry about your mom and dad.” “Are you feeling okay, Arven?” Nemona asks. “Poor guy.” Penny said.

It was silent for a minute, but then Arven pulls you in for a hug and quietly cries in your shoulder. You rubbed his back as he cried. That’s when Nemona and Penny decided to join in to comfort Arven. You all had been hugging until Arven calmed himself. You all broke apart, then you pull a tissue out of your backpack and dried Arven’s tears. “Let’s head on out of here, okay? I’ll make us some sandwiches if you’d like one.” you tell him. Arven slowly nods, saying, “I could really use one.” “We’ll let you guys be if that’s alright?” Penny says. “Yeah,” Nemona said, “we’ll go our separate ways while you two relax.”

You all leave Area Zero; making it back up to the crater’s exit and out the gate. Nemona and Penny went their separate ways while you and Arven set up a picnic. You both made your sandwiches and got to eating. Arven sat beside you rather than across the table from you because he felt lonely. Knowing his own mom and dad died, he seemed hurt. But being around you and Mabostiff made him feel better.

“How are you feeling now, Arven?” you asked him in a gentle tone. Arven took a sip of his soda before answering, “Fine, sort of. But I’ll get there.” You nod, gently patting Arven’s back. Arven looks at you and cracks a small smile. He then hugs you again, saying, “Couldn’t have been through it all without you. I appreciate you being there.” “Of course, Arven.” you said, rubbing his back as you hugged him. You both had spent the entire day with each other. Including his Mabosstiff and your Koraidon and Miraidon.

Consider: Arven wants to cultivate more herbal mystica to figure out if he can use it on a broader scale to help people and pokemon. Problem, hes bad at gardening.

Enter him meeting a horticulture student reader in the school greenhouse that helps him grow these things and they fall for each other.

I just. Keep imagining mabosstiff carrying potting soil and Arven just shoving whole sprigs of herbs into a pot and praying. Over or under watering. Hes trying his best and his best needs a s/o with a green thumb

this is my favorite one so far as I love gardening.

🥪 Arven didn't know jack shit about planting plants, especially when he didn't have seeds.

🥪 He practically begged you to help him. Think of all the good you could do together!

🥪 You agreed and taught him how to take cuttings off of plants.

🥪 Every day, you two would meet at the greenhouse and take care of the plants. It seems certain activities help the herbs grow better. Singing to the sweet herbs made them sweeter, yelling at the bitter herbs made them even more bitter, playing hard rock music to the spicy ones made then spicier, ect.

🥪 Mabostiff would help you two too! Most of it was motivational support, but he would carry around different things like pots, bags of soil, and the hose.

🥪 Eventually you two started falling in love with each other. One day you ended up falling asleep while taking care of the plants and woke up snuggled together.

🥪 One day, Mabostiff had enough of the bullshit and tripped Arven, causing him to fall into you and pin you on the ground.

🥪 You both stared into each others eyes until Arven kissed you. Guess he had enough of it too!

🥪 He didn't ask you to be his partner until he got a full Herba Mystica crop. It made him so confident that he just HAD to ask you out! You of course said yes.

Perfect to me - Arven x Student Librarian!Reader

Summary: Mabosstiff is doing a lot better - you're the first person Arven wants to tell

You tried to turn up your music for the seventh time - forgetting it was already at full volume. Your phone buzzed angrily, a notification popping up - trying to warn you of the damage you were doing to your ears. 

You were more-or-less all alone in the library; anyone who had come in this late was frantically studying at the desks, so you were free to shelve books and dance awkwardly. 

You skimmed the spines of the books and hummed quietly to yourself. The song reminded you of Arven - it felt like sunshine and long, green grasses with a warm breeze. You smiled at the thought of him; even his name gave you butterflies - you couldn’t quite believe you'd been dating three months. 

You first met when he was always asking for obscure books and journal articles - and without having to do too much detective-work you figured out that he was searching for the titan's herbs. You mentioned it one night - after a few weeks of him coming in almost every day - and he let you meet Mabostiff. You'd never seen such a sick Pokémon, but you found yourself with a certain respect for the somewhat-harsh boy who sat in front of you, stroking its nose gently. After then, you always stayed past the end of your shifts - scouring the shelves for any clues to help Arven and Mabostiff.

You found the section you were looking for and slid a book from your trolley onto the shelf. Straightening up, you were about to reach for the next book - but, through the shelf, you came face-to-face with Arven.

You leapt out of your skin, ripping your headphones out in the process.

Arven grinned and laughed; wide-eyed you scolded him.

"Oh my god, Arven." You said, as you rounded the shelf - moving to face him. "How long have you been there?"

"Not too long." He smiled - his smile was so contagious you found yourself struggling to maintain your annoyed expression.

"Well, don't scare me like that!" You replied, trying to suppress your giggle. Being around Arven made you go stupid (in the best way possible, of course). It was addictive - hell, he was addictive - you never failed to have fun, even when poring over fifty year-old books and digging through the dusty archives.

"Okay, okay - I'm sorry." He replied - not looking even the least bit sorry. 

"You should be." You said, folding your arms with mock disappointment. "Libraries are no places for fun."

"Of course, it won't happen again Miss L/N." He said - his tone's solemness matching your own.

For a moment you stared at each other seriously - before you both erupted into giggles. 

Yeah, you thought to yourself, I really like him.

Before you'd even caught your breath again, he grabbed your hand and tugged it.

"C'mon, there's something you gotta see." 

Had Arven been any other boy - you probably would have assumed that they were about to take you down some dark corridor and axe-murder you. But when you looked at him and he softly smiled back at you - you trusted him completely.

He led you out of the library and down the stairs - to one of the fire exit doors in a back corridor.

He held it open for you and you stepped outside into the dark car park. The cold March air ruffled your hair and you shivered; you heard Arven close the door and then stand beside you. In the dim light of the flickery fire-exit sign you could only just make out his features. He stood close to you - his arm brushing your own - but he didn’t seem to mind; neither did you. 

He grinned and pulled a Poké ball out of his pocket.

He didn’t mean?

“Arven?” you said, excitement rising in your voice. “He’s better?”

He grabbed your hand and nodded frantically, somehow smiling even wider than before. He tossed the ball, freeing Mabosstiff - who, for the first time whilst you’d known him, stood in front of you. Arven, who was still smiling wildly (and seemed unable to speak) looked between the two of you, his eyes suddenly full of tears

 You laughed, dropping to your knees and putting your hand out for the Pokémon to sniff. Mabostiff nosed your fingers and let out a low ruff.

"Hey, buddy." You said, quietly - finding yourself fighting back tears as well. "Good to see you up and about,"

Mabostiff nuzzled against your leg and you giggled - wiping your eyes. Arven, who was looking just as teary-eyed as you, crouched down, levelling with you and Mabosstiff.

"I can't believe you did it," You whispered, stroking the Pokémon's ears.

"Me neither." Arven said. The closeness of his voice surprised you a little. You turned to face him, finding that his face was only a few centimetres from your own. Fireworks were going off inside your brain as you stared at his dark eyes. 

He's gorgeous, you thought. I've never noticed how pretty he is. 

Your words caught in your throat and you found yourself unable to form a sensible reply. He held your gaze; his mouth slightly agape.

"Hey," You whispered, giggling slightly.

"Hi," He laughed back.

His smile was radiant, even in the darkness. You were so close you could practically feel the heat from his body. He glanced at your lips, so quickly you were almost convinced it didn't happen - but it was there.

He spoke slowly. "Can I, uh, ask you something?" 

You glanced at his lips.

"Sure,"

"Would you mind if - uh - could I-" He stammered, his growing more red by the second.

You laughed quietly and he did too - easing your nerves a bit. 

You met his big, dark eyes and knew you were too far gone. So, with only a moment's hesitation, you leant in.

Your heart felt as though it was going to rattle out of your chest, but the feeling of his lips against your own left you floating. His hand moved to your face and you steadied yourself against his knee.

After a moment, you pulled apart - bumping noses as both laughed breathily. 

"Wow," You whispered.

"Yeah." He laughed.

You leant back, moving from your crouched position to sit on the concrete instead - your head slightly spinning. Mabosstiff looked between you, letting out a low ruff. Arven grinned, ruffling the fur on its head.

"Were you watching us?" He said, narrowing his eyes at the Pokémon. "Cheeky." 

You laughed and Arven turned to look at you. Your heart skipped a beat and your mind was empty.

He likes me. 

"So," You turned away, looking out into the darkness. "You like me?"

"Well, yeah." 

You turned back to face him, his expression barely visible in the dim light, but you could still see the redness that suddenly appeared.

"Well, uh - I mean, why wouldn't I like you?"

You snorted. "I could name a few reasons."

For a moment he was quiet, staring at you - clearly thinking hard.

"Nope." He said.

"What?"

"I can't name any."

You laughed and he nudged your shoulder.

"You're perfect to me."

You could feel the blood rushing into your face as you leaned into his side - tucking your head beneath his chin. You both sat quietly until Mabosstiff flopped down across both of your laps - Arven letting out an oof as it did so.

"You're heavy, buddy." He said to the dog. "Not a puppy anymore, eh?"

"They grow up so fast." You said, wiping a fake tear.

Arven mock-sniffled. "My baby is all grown up!" 

Suddenly, you blurted out his name. "Arven?"

He turned to you. "Yeah?"

"You're perfect to me too."

Summary: You finally come out to your friend after one too many assumptions.

“Ugh!” You groaned as you entered Arven’s dorm room, flopping down into his bed. One too many people thinking you’re dating someone just because you hung out with them.

“Another day of misunderstandings?” He asked from his kitchen, already digging out your favorite ingredients for a sandwich.

“Baooowww!”

“Hi Mabostiff.”

Said pokemon nudged your hand, and you immediately dug it into his fur, earning a happy foot thump against the floor.

“Have a sandwich.”

You sat up at Arven’s voice, giving a quiet thank you as you took your sandwich from him.

“Just feels like everyone always expects the guy to be a boyfriend instead of just a friend.” You huffed, bringing the conversation back around.

“So, do you have any guy you do like?” He asked, returning to the kitchen.

“Arven, I’m a lesbian.” You blurted, stopping mid bite as you processed what you just said.

There was a pause, both of you unaware Mabostiff was stealing meat scraps that managed to slip out of your sandwich.

“Oh.” Arven finally spoke, just that one word, and simply went on to make himself his own sandwich.

“‘Oh’? That’s it?”

“Yep.” He replied, throwing a grin your way, “I’m fine with whatever sexuality you identify with, I wouldn’t be your best bud if I hadn’t now would I?”

“I guess not.” You chuckled, continuing to eat your sandwich, brows furrowing at its lack of contents. “Mabostiff have you been eating my sandwich?”

You got a noise that sounded suspiciously like a “nooo”.

Arven laughed from his spot in the kitchen. “I can make you another if you want.”

“That’d be nice.” You replied, offering what was left to Mabostiff with a playful sigh.

I said what I said about S/V but the storyline with Arven and mabostiff absolutely crushed me, in a bittersweet way. Especially after losing my beloved cat a month ago. I shed an actual tear when they made you think that mabostiff wasn't going to get better. Gut wrenching, from a pokemon game. Bravo.

Oo, a dash of angst! You've caught me at a good time, anon :) 

Gonna make this more a scenario set of headcanons! Let's see:

- Arven- having the absolute worst luck-would have planned out a really beautiful picnic that day too. He worked all night to make the sandwiches and fixings, even made a small dessert too of his at the time S/O's favorite things.

- It would be a shock at first. Confusion and hurt mixing together. Did he do something wrong? Did he hurt them without realizing it?

- He won’t grovel or beg for a second chance. He has his dignity and respects them too much to do that. He takes it with his head held high as they walk out of their life.

- It’s only when he’s home or on the way there that he finally let’s the pain hit. Tears rolling down his cheeks, clutching the basket so tightly that his knuckles are white. The world lost some of it’s color then- everything felt frozen and dull suddenly.

- At home he’d sit with Mabostiff, sharing the picnic with him, even if it’s really just Arven feeding him most of it. He’d lean into his old pal, crying in his fur as the memories of him and his S/O play through his head again and again like a broken film. He leaves the dessert untouched- he can’t decide whether he wanted to throw it out, crush it with his hands or let it rot. Eventually he’d give it to someone who’d enjoy it.

- There are so many herbs that fix so many ailments. Even though he flipped through all the books, he can’t find one to mend a broken heart.

Ok so. I have Thoughts about pokemon sv now that I've finished it. This is your spoiler warning, details below the cut for the full main storyline. You've been warned.

I have to admit, I think this is probably my new favorite game.

Don't get me wrong, I'm just as disappointed with the lagging/glitches as everyone else! I even spent much of the first part of the game feeling mildly underwhelmed

But then I hit the final storyline

I enjoy games with good writing above all, graphics etc second. So I was hooked pretty early by Arven and Penny's storylines. No offense to Nemona, I love her, but I've done the gym challenge before, so I was way more intrigued by them. Especially with the air of mystery surrounding those plots

I was super surprised by pokemon handling such mature themes, too! Arvens struggle to feel loved by his parent(s) and the possibility of losing a beloved pet- and Penny's storyline about how often when victims of bullying stand up for themselves they're the ones who end up getting in trouble with teachers. I have personal experience with parts of both of these stories (losing a pet and bullying) so these hit me hard!

But then! Oohhhh then when I finished those three plots and the all came together for the final storyline?? Beautiful!!! I'm a sucker for seemingly unrelated things coming together for something even bigger

The writers actually did a great job of portraying a bunch of teenagers hanging out together. Each character remained true to themselves, while also sounding like a realistic group of kids.

As we got closer to the final boss there were some breadcrumbs to pick up on, so I was suspecting *something* was up, but when the final twist dropped my jaw actually fell open

It was so well written! I was not expecting it, but in hindsight all the details clicked together. That's the best kind of plot twist in my opinion. When I first saw AI Sada I thought it was her dead body, but then it activated and I was like "Oh Shit, okay!!!!"

Then they subverted the evil AI trope, having the robot professor actually want to help us, but knowing they'll turn against us because of their programming... beautiful showstopping spectacular

I had a few fears going into the final battle (would we have to send Koraidon back to the past? Were we gonna loose Mabostiff for Dramatic Effect, wasting all the work we'd put in with Arven?) And I'm SO GLAD I was wrong.

The final storyline ended in such a satisfying way, and I was actually astounded by the level of care that went into the writing. My expectations after swsh and pla were not high, and I was blown away

I've never had a game make me actually cry before, let alone twice (once when Mabostiff was fully healed and once when Arven found out about his mom/lost AI Sada too. Yes Arven is my favorite why do you ask)

I am so happy with this game. Did it need some more time to iron out the rendering kinks? Absolutely. Were the programmers probably way overworked and am I totally pissed about that? Yeah 100%. But I can tell a lot of love went into this game, it's writing and characters, and I've still got more to do! There's a ton of post game activities I haven't even started yet

Overall I loved this game and I'm going to go cry some more now

I’ll bite. What’s your S/V theory?

Scarlet and Violet are heavily built on and advertised by it's open world. Pokemon has always been a fairly unique rpg in which the extent of the roleplay has always been "it's you, but as a trainer," even though  there have been limitations on that premise (such as the player characters having set designs up until gen 6) and each generation builds on this idea through things like adding trainer customization, selfie cameras, etc, to the point that by the time we get to gen 9, you're heavily encouraged to just be you. To the extent that you're literally allowed to go wherever the hell you want.

And that's great! But where that comes into conflict with these games (and keep in mind this isn't unique to Pokemon, but I'm noticing it now that it's new to Pokemon) is that these games are simultaneously both the most customizable but also most roleplay-y games in the series. The game expects you to be invested enough in Team Star to want them to go back to school, it wants you to love battling and be just as invested in being Nemona's rival just as much as she's invested in the player (more on that later), and it wants you to care about Arven's plight and help Mabostiff and eventually visit Area Zero with him. And some of these plots connect more easily with people than others, and it's also a given that if you're playing the game, that the game expects you to interact with it wholeheartedly.

However I've also noticed a great deal of cognitive dissonance in the fandom (for lack of a better term) who don't connect to the stories or characters precisely because they're more invested in being themselves than they are in roleplaying as a trainer and earnestly interacting with the game. This is especially prominent due to just how many dialouge prompts the games give, even though the answer doesn't actually matter or you'll be forced into chosing the answer that the game wants anyway.

I'm sure I have some bias in this statement just because of how much I like Nemona and engage with content about her much more than other characters, but I noticed this trend specifically with how the fandom treats her and calls her "annoying" or "a stalker."

Now both of those statements have multiple reasons for arising and I'm not gonna blame someone for simply not connecting with a character, but I find it interesting that she seems to get a lot more vitriol than other past rivals despite the fact that she still just does the same old thing that every Pokemon rival has always done. And I feel like that's at least partially because the game expects you to be invested in her character, but if you're more invested in doing your own thing or just being yourself rather than roleplaying the character who's supposed to be Nemona's mutual rival, then I can easily see how being presented with a lot of inconsiquental dialouges and being awkwardly forced to follow the game's script despite the illusion of freedom can be jarring and leave a negative impression on her character and the game as a whole.

CW: Animal Death/ Dog Death

So, this post is about a video of me waxing poetic about wanting a regional form for Seaking, likely cause of watching that one King of the Hill YTP one too many times, about how cool it would be to see one of the most overlooked Gen 1 Pokémon still get love this long after it’s heyday. The video is from 12 days before I had to say my last goodbye to my elderly dog, Mazie. I didn’t necessarily realize it at the time, but I was clearly struggling with the feelings I had about Mazie and taking care of her, versus making the choice to give her the best death. The decision was ours, but ultimately mine, and a hard one to make, but one that I knew would be the only real option for her.

I… really wish there was some way we could’ve taken care of her more. There wasn’t. I don’t think we were bad owners, but we weren’t exemplary. I knew that. I mean I was the youngest person living at our house, and somehow the only one responsible and understanding enough to care for a DOG. A dog. I don’t blame my mother, after all, she was already caring for both her parents by herself, while still working a difficult health care job. But, the fact that the other two living here were incapable… I dunno it really stings. It stings because I know I wasn’t enough for her. Mazie was an old, fat dachshund who was very independent and very needy. I got really sick for the first time with my chronic illness just a few months prior to this, so it was obviously really affecting my mental state here, making me more somber and reflective. And, as her primary care giver, I was also starting to lack even more. She had simple needs to go out and use the bathroom late at night, and I would get furious at her for it, because of the pain and discomfort and ruin of my sleep that I so desperately needed and could so barely maintain. It wasn’t fair but that’s how these things go, I suppose.

So there wasn’t any way to improve her care, is what I mean. If the only people capable mentally are too busy and tired or sick and weak to do so, then there’s no way I could have given her the miracle treatment that I wanted to give her. I wanted her to be cleaned up like those rusted appliances. I wanted to hunt the Herba Mystica and heal her up. I wanted her to be given new relevance and love and care, like a new form of Seaking would do for him. I wanted to I wanted to give my old dog new life.

But you can’t. I can’t. I couldn’t. She was just old. She’s not like those miracle dogs on the Dodo. She isn’t a young rescue revitalized and brought back to health by a miracle worker, cause she wasn’t young, and she didn’t have an expert caretaker. And she didn’t even really have the drive, either. She’s not. She wasn’t. She wasn’t like Seaking, or antiques, or Arven’s Mabostiff. She actually aged. She was a real dog, a real life. Seaking and Mabostiff and antique candy makers can’t get old and die. And she did. And it’s not fair. It s not fair that they can be fixed up with care and she couldn’t. And it’s not fair to myself to think that she could have, that I could have done it, done the impossible.

But it still hurts. It hurts because I love her so much. It hurts because she was such a light in my life even with the burdens of her care. It hurts because I’m guilty. It hurts because I had to rejustify my decision to others over and over again, even after we had her death date planned, even if they agreed and didn’t fight, it still hurt to rejustify. It hurt, the night before she was set to go, to have to spend it explaining to my oldest sister exactly how and why she had to die that day. It hurts because I know I was right to have stuck to my guns even with her “second wind” throwing us off. She was only getting older and slower, and less able to go on at all.

I’m glad she had a good day on her final day, though. I’m glad I had the grace and clarity to make the hardest decision I could for her. I’m glad I had the support of my mother and the Veterinarian for the decision. I’m glad I got to say goodbye to her on my day off, with exactly who I wanted to say goodbye to her with. I’m glad I cried and wept and couldn’t keep it together if I had wanted to. I’m glad she had a long life full of different families who loved her. I’m glad she got pulled out from under that trailer in Mississippi all those years ago. I love you so much Mazie. I always will.

So. The video. Like I said, I might be pretty self aware, but even still, I don’t think I was self aware enough at the time to realize I was talking about all of that. I probably thought it was mostly about myself, if anything. Being newly sick and unmedicated and wanting desperately to be fixed. Regardless, it’s about Seaking. It was sent late at night, after I spent the previous few minutes searching for art of a Seaking regional form. I only ended up saving it for the joke at the end, I think. But it’s brought so much beauty and catharsis to me now, six months later, I cant help but be happy that something I saved on a whim has brought me all this.

Arven taking care of his sick s/o please :)

🥪 He makes you all sorts of different soups with the Herba Mystica you found while challenging the 5 star tera raids. It makes you feel really better.

🥪 He left a little bell in your room just in case you need him.

🥪 He has a hard time sleeping while listening to you make sick noises.

🥪 His parents were only really there for him when he was sick, so he knows a few family recipes for sickness. One of which he calls "Red Hot Soup" which is literally just Red Hots melted in a pot of cinnamon tea with a bit of whiskey mixed in. The alcohol burns out of the drink though, so it's not alcoholic.

🥪 He's the type of guy to deep clean himself and the things around you to make sure you don't get sick germs all over the house.

🥪 Despite his wishes, your smaller pokemon make their way into your room and keep you company.

🥪 He makes sure you are completely supplied with everything you need. Tissues? Here's five boxes of the cool lotion ones. A trash can to vomit in? Cool, here's one. Some food? Multiple sandwiches wrapped up. Water? A whole ass gallon just for you!

🥪 Mabostiff worries about you too. He'll walk in every hours just to check on you. Arven has to sanitize him every time too.

🥪 Despite Mabostiffs checking in on you, he'll still text you to make sure you're okay every hour and to let you know that he loves you.

Random thought that has a lot of angst potential: if arvens partner broke up with him, do you think it’d be incredibly emotionally damaging because of his abandonment trauma, or a normal level of sad as long as they don’t disappear completely from his life like his parent(s)?

I think he'd be heartbroken, his partner was also his best friend. I think he would be the type to shelter himself completely from his ex because he would be depressed everytime he saw them.

Mabostiff would also hate the ex because of how bad they fucked him up when they broke up with him.

Basically, everything would fall apart at the break up and there would probably be a lot of begging to take him back and a LOT of crying.
