Another Year around the world

Hey everyone,
Its that time of year again where I reflect on the past twelve months and realize I’ve added another year to my life. Birthdays always sneak up on me, marking the passage of time in a way that feels both sudden and momentous. Last night was a restless one, but despite the lack of sleep, I’ve started my day feeling surprisingly good. I’ve been on a creative streak lately, ticking off goals that have been on my list for ages. It’s amazing how time flies, and here I am, contemplating what’s next for my art business.
This year, I have some exciting plans and goals that I’m eager to dive into. One of my main focuses will be getting a head start on seasonal content. I want to create and finalize some Halloween and Christmas-themed art well ahead of time. It always feels like those holidays arrive faster than I anticipate, so better to be prepared. Alongside that, I’m planning to work on a series of new fantasy art prints. I have a stack of sketches that are just waiting to be brought to life with digital color, and it’s about time I get them done.
Stickers are another big project on my agenda. I have over 100 sketch designs for potential stickers, and my goal is to release a significant number of them this year. There’s something so satisfying about seeing my designs turned into tangible products that people can enjoy. Speaking of products, I aim to have at least 30 new greeting card designs ready by the end of the year. These are always fun to create and are a great way for people to share a bit of my art with their loved ones.
Adding to that, I’m aiming to introduce a minimum of 50 new coloring page designs to my site by next year. Coloring pages have always been a hit, and I love how they allow others to interact with my art in a creative way. Along with these, I’m also planning to get all my stickers and mini prints up and available in my shop. There’s been a backlog of designs that I’ve been meaning to list, and it’s about time they see the light of day.
One of the more ambitious projects I have in mind is creating a small art book. I’ve been toying with the idea for a while, and I think this year might be the right time to make it happen. I have a concept for the book that I’m really excited about, and it’s going to be a blend of art and narrative. I’m also working on a story that will feature illustrations, almost like an art novel. I don’t want it to be a comic or a manga, but something unique that combines my love for storytelling and art. I hope to either get it published or run a Kickstarter to fund physical copies for those interested.
Another fun project I’m planning is a new line of bookmarks. These will feature more intricate and detailed artwork, showcasing the next level of my coloring techniques. It’s going to be a challenging project, but one that I’m looking forward to.
I also want to give my YouTube channel another go. It’s been a bit of a stop-start process, but I’m determined to get it off the ground and eventually monetize it. This will provide a nice side income and give me another platform to share my art and connect with a wider audience. I’ve started writing scripts and brainstorming ideas for content that I think will be both engaging and informative.
Offering commission work is another avenue I’m exploring. I’m considering offering custom designs, perhaps family portraits or personalized greeting cards. I haven’t ironed out all the details yet, but it’s something I’m excited to introduce. I’ll likely add a commission page to my website soon, so stay tuned for that if you’re interested in a custom piece.
These are just some of the goals I have for the next year. I’m sure I’ll come up with more ideas as I go along, and I might even surpass my current plans, which would be fantastic. The important thing is to keep moving forward and continue creating. Ultimately, I want my art business to grow and to connect with people who share similar interests. It’s all about building a community around the things I love.
Do any of you have similar goals or projects you’re working on? I’d love to hear about them and maybe even share some tips and motivation. Here’s to a productive and creative year ahead!

Why i am here

Hey everyone! Today, I wanted to indulge a bit and share some stories from my childhood that pointed me towards becoming an artist. It's always fun to reflect on the past and see how those early experiences shaped who I am today. So, let’s take a little trip down memory lane.
As a kid, I would spend hours drawing every single day. My fascination with anime characters and video game characters was endless. I’d fill sketchbooks with drawings of my favorite characters and even create my own original ones. And dragons! I can’t even count how many dragons I drew. They were a big part of my childhood imagination, each one more intricate and detailed than the last.
One of the most pivotal experiences for me was living in Okinawa, Japan. The art there was so vibrant and unique, whether it was in local shops, graffiti, or even in places where you wouldn’t expect to find art. The influence of Japanese art left a lasting impression on me. My mom’s growing collection of manga was another huge inspiration. I would spend hours poring over those books, absorbing the styles and stories, which fueled my love for drawing even more.
I also had a bunch of "how to draw manga" books that were like treasures to me. They helped me refine my skills and gave me new techniques to try out. I was so into video games and anime that I would often pause whatever we were watching on VHS to try and recreate the scenes. It wasn’t the perfect way to learn, but it certainly was fun and challenging.
Fast forward to college, where I studied fine arts for a couple of years. This was an amazing time for me to delve into more serious aspects of art like realism, anatomy, and various techniques. I developed a particular love for cross-hatching and oil painting, even if I wasn’t particularly great at it at first. But then, life took over, and I ended up stepping away from art for about a decade. Apart from a few sporadic paintings, I didn't do any serious sketching or pursue any artistic aspirations during that time.
A few years ago, something changed, and I found myself drawn back to art. Picking up my sketchbook and digital tablet again was both humbling and exciting. That first year back was tough—I was rusty, and my imagination felt stifled. But with persistence, my creativity started to flow again, and I began to regain and improve my skills. Now, I feel like my art is better than it’s ever been, though I know there’s always more to learn and more skills to develop.
Looking back, I do have some regrets about not drawing for so long. I often wonder how much further along I’d be if I hadn’t taken that long break. But I try not to dwell on the past too much. Instead, I focus on making the most of my present and future with art. I want my future to be filled with the same love for art that I had as a kid.
Being an adult comes with its own set of challenges. Sometimes, you end up letting go of the things that are most important to you in order to make others happy. I wish I had kept up with my art, but I didn’t think it would lead anywhere. Now, even though I might be struggling, at least I’m doing what I love. I’m not giving up, and I don’t plan to.
I might need to find more work to keep myself financially secure, but having another job isn’t going to stifle my creativity or kill my art business. If anything, it’s going to make me stronger and more confident in my journey. It’s all about finding balance and making sure you keep the things you love close to your heart.
Can anyone else relate to losing their love of art, only to rediscover it later? Or maybe you have stories about how you became an artist? I’d love to hear from you and share in your experiences. Let’s keep this conversation going and support each other on our artistic journeys.
Warm regards, Latisha
